5 years living in the Netherlands and I just finished my first full book in non-simplified Dutch. Without a dictionary. Without struggle. Just reading, relax, and enjoyment.
Great feeling! I count myself officially trilingual.

This post goes out to the language learners who aren't the best at accents:
There is SO much variety in pronunciation in every language, whether it's people who have spoken it all their lives or people who started learning yesterday! It's awesome that you're part of that vibrant and diverse population!
Your accent is a badge of identity -- your accent in your first language shows where you call home just the same way it does in any other language
It's always awesome to hear someone's accent in your language and know that someone from another location was interested enough to work hard to learn it!
Studying grammar and vocabulary can enrich your communication SO much more than pouring over vowels and consonants. Having a "perfect" accent will never save someone who can't ask where the bathroom is!
Being understood is always the goal (unless your passion is just understanding -- which is JUST as cool!). And your accent is very unlikely to seriously impede understanding, because:
Communication is a two-way street! Good listeners will always be happy to engage with you and work through any misunderstandings
Don't ever let someone discourage or devalue your accent! Anyone who does is probably either projecting their own fears or generally intolerant of variation. And we do not have time for that.
#language learning#langblr#linguistics#<- this is not rly a linguistics post but I feel the need to tag it this way bc I am indirectly responding to another post I saw#polyglot#language#language stuff#text#original content

Currently filled with a strange and envious longing of those who are fluent in more than one language, who can read and write poetry in more than one language.
(Spanish is calling to me. I will answer.)

about me
Hi, I'm toki (she/her)!
I've been studying Japanese for 10+ years (omg) and I've had this Japanese langblr since 2019. I learned Japanese formally starting in high school and although I've never taken the JLPT, I consider myself lower advanced level (N3/N2?) except when I'm not.
I post:
beginner to advanced level Japanese content * kanji * vocabulary * grammar * joyo kanji/kyoiku kanji * kotowaza kentei test * other content
photos of Japan (mine & others')
Japanese culture/fashion/art/illustrations
random personal thoughts
unrelated things
Please feel free to talk to me about Japanese (or not-Japanese) anytime! I will do my best to answer questions related to Japanese or point you to a resource that can help.
My Japanese goals:
be better at Japanese
teach my son Japanese (he is learning to talk)
improve my 敬語 (formal Japanese) all around
write more in Japanese and have my writing corrected
Personal stuff:
native English speaker
old enough to have a husband and a son (2020 pandemic baby)
full time working mama (adulting is hard)
my hobbies include raising my son and catering to the whims of my 3 cats
I like anime/manga/reading/movies/hiking/travel
I track #tokidokitokyo (and post original content under this tag) and I also track #looktoki

re-introduction time, hi I'm Bente (they/he), Ben is also fine! formerly known as bennistudies
quick facts:
mid-20something wrapping up their master's teaching degree (english & german)
starting a new job as a substitute teacher in may (exciting but scary!) (that didn't happen, but other good things did!)
this is a somewhat-studyblr, definitely some langblr content and otherwise the usual meme, jokes, life update, bookish stuff
languages I'm currently learning: DGS (german sign language) & Norwegian
it's been a bit over five years since I joined the studyblr community with my old blog and I've learned so much from others since then but also I just really enjoy seeing everyone doing their thing and making it work, ya'll are so impressive!!
hyperspecific poll with fun facts to get to know each other is here
a more rambly hello under the cut:)
after I basically stopped posting on my old studyblr bennistudies last late summer, I realised that having to switch back and forth between accounts was the issue. I missed being active here! so to solve that, I've created this sideblog for easier access. hi, it's good to see you again :)
for those interested, I'll definitely leave little updates on how the job is going (as much as I'm allowed), especially when it comes to being a nonbinary trans teacher since a bunch of ppl found that interesting when I mentioned it on my old blog. posts related to that will be both under #mine and #bente does gender
originally, I expected to be done with my thesis already, which is why I have lots of language classes going on/starting rn. I have 4 lessons of german sign language level 2 left, level 3 starts this week as a parallel class though (posts will be under #bente learns sign language). last week I started norwegian a1 (#bente learns norwegian)!
other than that new focus on teaching and language learning, it'll be the usual chaos, rambles, and water drinking reminders though. I'm not even gonna pretend that I'm doing this for accountability, I just like sharing my cosy little corner of the world and seeing what you lot are up to
I still track #benniscup, please use it freely for any type of post! yes that includes rambles (if you want me to see and potentially reblog)
if you want to talk books, baking, plants or just about your day, please reach out!
tagging a bunch of my old mutuals and blogs I've followed for what feels like forever bc I appreciate you all and hope you know that: @septemberstudies @learnelle @studyingwithcatsandtea @veralernt @teacherstudiies @lattesandlearning @somerabbitholes @yourneighborhoodbibliophile @adelinestudiess @godzilla-studies @oneanxiousstudybuddy @gabiestudies @patchworkstudies (& the knife gang pals, obviously <3)

~◇~ Welcome to my langblr ~◇~
◇ Hi, my name is Alexandra, and linguistics is my passion! Below you will find the detailed information about my language study plan as well as the contents that will be posted on this blog.
• Short version: my native language is Romanian. My current focus is getting fluent in Polish (currently at around B1-B2), improving my French (also around B2) and finding a Romanian Sign Language course. In terms of linguistics, my main interests are historical and comparative linguistics, etymology, language typology, language acquisition, language evolution, innovation and word formation.
◇ Why "Lingwistyka Bałto-Sławistyka"?
• This sideblog started when I was writing a paper about the common origins of Slavic and Baltic Languages. The name is in Polish because it's the main language I'm learning. As for the Baltic part, I still really want to learn Lithuanian one day.

◇ Historical and comparative linguistics. Indo-European studies

~ ◇ ~ How I got into linguistics ~ ◇ ~
My first contact with foreign languages was my dad teaching me to say "I love you" in as many languages as he knew how to, since I was a toddler. During early childhood, the main foreign language I was exposed to was English, mostly via Disney movies, other cartoons, and, later on, the Internet. During middle school, I took up French, being a mandatory subject, and studied it in school for 8 years. At some point in 6th grade I tried teaching myself Japanese using one textbook and anime, and it didn't even get me to an A1 level. However, if I had the chance, I would take it up again in the future.
More importantly, in 6th grade, my teacher enrolled me in the linguistics olympiad, which I fell in love with at first sight. I had never seen such a thing before, and I was completely awestruck. I remember that it was a problem in which we had to decipher Luwian hieroglyphs. I loved it so much that I continued to attend this olympiad yearly for the rest of my pre-university schooling. Another relevant detail is that I learned the etymology of my name at around the age of 15, and binge read dozens if not hundreds of behindthename entries. This solidified a lifelong interest in etymology and historical linguistics.
Specifically because of my interest in linguistics, I pursued a philology (literature + linguistics) degree in college, being an English major and a Russian minor. I had taken up Russian from scratch, and reached approximately a B1 level. However, I also took an elective Polish course, only once a week for 3 years, and got a higher language level than Russian, which was my minor. It helps that I went to Poland twice in the meantime.
I am currently enrolling in a linguistics masters program, hoping to deepen my knowledge of the subject and learn how to do real research of my own. My short term language learning goals, aside from perfecting my Polish and French, would be to start studying Romanian Sign Language.

Searching for blogs to follow!
Tumblr sometimes can mess up the tags I follow and I end up not seeing certain content I'd like to see more regularly. Therefore, I am searching for more blogs to follow and to interact with! If you post about any of the things under, please interact with this post (like or reblog) and I'll check your blog out! Plus, it is always nice to have people to talk to, but I am very shy/never know how to approach people (because I am always scared they may not be comfortable interacting so freely with others), so there is also that: if you don’t mind random conversations, just send me a message and/or answer to this post with your current hyperfixation so we can ramble all about it!
Writeblr
Studyblr: especially medblrs
Langblr
Art: reblogging art, being an artist… anything, really!
Anime/Manga: horror, thriller, sci-fi (cyberpunk, steampunk), mystery, psychological, vampires, etc. Not really interested in comedy anime (unless it is something similar to Spy x Family, for instance), romance and superheroes.
Horror
Dark Academia
Literature and books: especially classic books.
TV Series/films: horror, thriller, sci-fi (cyberpunk, steampunk, space operas), historical fiction, drama, mystery/policial, philosophical, etc. As previously mentioned, I am not interested in romance, comedy or superheroes.
Science: anything, from Maths to Biology, from Physics to Psychology.
Historical facts
True Crime
Travelling logs/experiences
Medicine/medical curiosities
Some things I’m really not into: heavily sexual content, extremist views (in any way), heavy shipping, fanfiction. So, if you post a lot of any of these things, maybe we are not that compatible, in all honesty.
Some info about me that may be a deal breaker to some: I am 21+, I post about queer stuff, I post about horror, gore and intense topics (like WW2 and depression, for instance). I wouldn’t advise minors to follow me, but again, it’s humanely impossible for me to check every single blog out there.
“But Leite, how can you not read fanfiction?” I am sorry, it really isn’t for me. There are many talented fanfiction writers out there (many times even more talented than the original writers), but I just cannot bring myself to read fanfiction without having as reference the original work, and that breaks immersion so, but so much for me. I totally understand and respect those who write/read fanfiction though.
For anyone seeing this post and wondering what fandoms I am in, you can check my introduction post, where you’ll find that information.
It’s very nice to meet you all and it feels amazing to be back on Tumblr! See you around!

Welcome!
This is my main blog, which I'm using as a combined study-/langblr and general thought dumping ground. My most passionate interests include marine science, wildlife biology, ichthyology, ornithology, ASL, and environmental issues.
I am a white transgender man living in the US, and I use he/him pronouns. I'm not a minor, though I don't feel comfortable sharing my actual age here. All of my original posts are tagged with "#your captain speaking". I try to tag any potentially triggering content, but alas I'm only human, so please let me know when I miss something.

The first photo was taken when I went to the orthopedist in a nearby city. He told me I needed physiotherapy because of my injury. The pain and the swelling was simply not going away. Today was my first physiotherapy session and my foot already seems to be feeling a little bit better. Wishing y'all a blessed night! 🙏🏻✨
What i did today:
Reviewed the course material for self-efficacy (the job center in my town hosted a free course on self-efficacy)
Read some articles on "der Spiegel"
Listened to the German news on "Deutschlandfunk"

11 for the langblr ask game!
Thanks for the ask :D
11. What language learning goals did you reach this year?
My goals were fairly vague but I did achieve some of them - I got an A in my French A Level, I watched more video content in French and I actually did learn and retain a shred of Irish this year :D Nowhere near my original lofty intentions but it's something at least :)
