Tim I noticed a lot of indigenous patches on your jacket, are you Native?
Idk what my dad was 'cause I never knew him, but yeah my mom is (or... Was.. I guess..) Muscogee, the tribe native to the part of Alabama I'm in.
If I remember correctly she came to Alabama from Oklahoma (where a lot of Natives were displaced to in the 1800s) to "get back to her roots."
But yknow, I was separated from her in childhood (which tbh is upsettingly common for Native families) and I was raised in a very white very Catholic asylum so I'm not as connected to the culture as I'd like to be.

i wonder how Darkwick handles the disappearance of the MC from their normal lives. like, MC went to a concert alone and never came back home.
ofc it would be easier for the institute if the MC has no one, but if they have a family/friend that searches for them? that file a missing person report when the hours pass with no response from their phone? that know MC would not run away? Do they let them search for their missing loved one and intentionally sabotage police investigations (or even intervene in them to stop any search), or would they use an anomaly to make it seem like nothing happened and MCs loved ones keep living their lifes unknowingly forgetting MC is not there?
we know that busses and taxis didn't see MC when they tried to go home, so there's most likely an anomaly that makes them "invisible"/unrecognizable to the general public. I don't know what would be more cruel, that MCs family is aware of their disappearance but nothing comes out of their searching efforts, or that they aren't even aware that the MC is missing because of the anomaly.
and if they have work or studies going on?
to me it seems like they aren't expecting for MC to break their curse. MC has been dead from the moment they looked at the eye, only the Sage's Ring gave them the "privilege" of going to class instead of going directly to a cell. once the year is over they won't be useful anymore and Darkwick will continue as intended.

On the topic of wheels, what do you think of Akon's giant cart? It was really funny to me that it only appears in two panels of the manga, but because of the nature of animation, they had to show him pushing that thing around for like 3 solid minutes. I'm a little disappointed they couldn't have come up with something to put in it, some writhing tentacles or something. Do you think the Squad 12ers ever push each other around in these things when it gets real late in the lab and they're feeling punchy? Has Rin ever napped in one?
Tumblr media
There probably aren't more wheels in Soul Society because they are simply too powerful. Plus, too many simple machines and the physics of the place becomes just a little *too* legible and other things start breaking down. It's a delicate trade-off, and there's a faction of the 12th that privately believes that although the headliner balance that always gets talked about in Soul Society is the souls (it being the eponymous balance, and the one most directly related to the present shinigami mandate), it's actually the wheels you need to watch out for. (It's worth noting that, yes, of course this 12th faction is related to the Train Guys underground, being that the train 1) has wheels, and 2) is a Very Important thing in Soul Society that almost no one else thinks about regularly.)
Indeed, the train and these carts share some phylogenetic relation, though of course it's quite distant. But not so distant that most shinigami in the 12th aren't careful about how they comport themselves around the carts, as rumor has it they sometimes exhibit a mind of their own and a few of them can be very persuasive. (It's not unusual to push an empty cart around for three whole minutes with seemingly not ask or destination in mind, just to diffuse some of the animacy of the damn thing. Akon usually tries not to take the carts for a walk without some other express purpose, for efficiency's sake, but Nemu's needs don't often align with efficiency's sake, so they walk. They talk. They push an empty cart nowhere.)
Rin's heard all the warnings. He is also friends with most of the cart-walking shinigami (who are usually not Akon, and tend to have fairly high turnover because sometimes they just *disappear* and it's never been proven whether they were called to volunteer for what is listed in the budget as "other experiments" or whether the carts took them for a walk), because he is generally pretty excited about the carts, given his interest in Little Guys:
Tumblr media
[Bleach e134]
One day he hopped in one, and was suddenly overtaken by the feeling that he should nap in it, as in a rowboat headed for a waterfall (according to the cart, this was a good thing).
When he woke up, he wasn't anywhere he recognized, though the tracks in the dirt (and even the hard stone--grooves worn into it as though wheels had been tracing this place for a long, long time) suggest he was not the first to find himself there. It was cold, but surprisingly dry, with a brine to the air like a sea without water. As his eyes adjusted to the dark and the rest of his sensorium to the nature of the reishi here, he realized he was in some kind of cavern. It felt a little like the walls of the Seireitei, the seki-sekki they were made from. Perhaps that was what made this place, too.
Whether he was there for a few hours or a week or several years, he's not sure, but at some point he fell asleep again and when he woke, he was back in the lab. Based on the date on the calendar, it had in fact been months, but no one could remember missing him, or else were playing a very elaborate game where they pretended not to for the sake of the bit; and Rin can't begin to guess which was more likely, because that commitment to indeterminacy is the nature of the 12th. All his work was... done... He wasn't behind on anything. But that only meant either his colleagues had done his work for the sake of the bit (less unlikely than it sounds--if there's one thing that truly unites the Gotei, it's not duty to serve but duty to the bit), or he'd managed to be in two places, two states, at once. He'd been in the cart and not in the cart. Naturally.
After his return, a bulletin did go out, though. A revision to the guest rules, which outside visitors to the 12th would all now need to sign:
Don't touch anything.

StrangeSpot, Round Thirty Two: Research (Uni)
The Research team take a trip to the BOOKMOBILE to hit the books and get assignments done. Several LGU dormies show up too (maybe they're jealous that Anna is playable now, but they'll get their turn eventually)!
Studying keep the Vandermorgan brothers from beefing with each other due to the events of last round. There is a positive out of all of it: Taron and Tara fall in love.
Marco, missing Leela's company, invites his late father's girlfriend Jill on a date. Weirdly, she accepts. Even more weirdly, her boyfriend Rocky walks by and sees them making out. The two have a falling out and Marco finds the whole monogamy thing so boring.
Taron graduates because he studied so hard, and Marco is expelled because he didn't study at all. The guy was on academic probation so much I'm surprised the uni gave him a shot at all, lol.

I'm not sure if this was ever specified in the game, but a horrific institute headcanon I have is that the Institute figured out a way to separate the memories from the personality from the copies of people that have on file. That that's what they use as the basis of all gen 3 personalities- whether first cobbled together in a weird Frankenstein collage or straight to the synth component.
That means that anyone's memories and personalities from prewar that got scanned, they're likely not the person they were once the Institute tampered with them.
If Jenifer Lands did a scan at CIT before her death... Would she even be Jenifer Lands anymore?

I have begun with my art project! We're supposed to document a journey, real or fictional (applies to both journey and place). So, naturally, I'm sending someone into the Distortion.
The first cardboard box is done! There will be another, larger one underneath that's not immediately visible unless you open the door and I'll find a way to fit in little notes of some poor person's attempt at a diary to keep their senses in these corridors. (It won't work but that's the fun in it).
Anyway I'm really excited for this project and I'm super proud of the door so far!

hypothetical struggle between Christianity and paganism in bbc merlin? 👀 one that's very neurodivergent? 👀 do tell
Okay, so Athurian times take place in the early dark ages. Which was probably a weird time for religion in Britain. Because the Roman occupation had just come to an end, leaving behind the structure of catholicism at least with those in positions of power. But religious beliefs were still in the process of blending together with the local practices and other religions, leading to some odd gnostic beliefs. Obviously, bbc merlin doesn't talk about Christianity within Camelot but I think we can assume the catholic church would have a position at the round table. Presumably, Arthur would grow up instructed in catholic belief, go to mass, and have bishops or whatever advising him. He would rule by Devine right, sanctioned by the pope and magic would be characterized as demonic. And that somehow raises the stakes for me, imaging magical merlin within the walls of a very catholic Camelot.
I just have this image of merlin in the back of a cathedral as Arthur attends mass. Kneeling in this beautiful building, head bowed low as the congregation sings praise to a foreign God in a foreign tongue. A God that would apparently have merlin tied to a stake and burned alive. And merlin choking out his empty prayers, echoing in the verbal praise under the isolation of his nonbelief and magical association. Full of fear and venom.
The hypothetical struggle I imagine is one of catholic enforcement pushed by Arthur's religious advisors and Arthur's morality. Because Arthur is a good person and slaughtering a people on the basis religion is insane. So, what does it mean for Arthur if he stops listening to his advisors and starts accepting magic? He has to contend with a spiritual struggle, not just the secular issues presented in the show. And I would looooooove to watch that. The bending of Arthur's beliefs into something more flexible and less rigidly Christian according to the church of the time
#my knowledge on this topic in terms of historical accuracy is blurry so im im wrong: pls for the love of god correct me#but idk if arthur was catholic the entire structure of his idea of the universe would have to change if he started accepting magic#and i think that would be a super interesting transition. where would he land? would he shift to being a more gnostic style Christian?#lose his faith? idk id probably make him like my dad who thinks hell is a human construct and that all are welcom in the kingdom of heaven#and that people should just be kind to eachother. very les mis to love another person is to see the face of god#bc i loooove that idea. i find it fascinating. idk i just think religion is interesting#bc its like how ppl fundamentally understand the universe to work and that is so wild. like i can understand why it was so important in ye#oldy times lol. idk im just a bit fixated on it atm. like its the type of obsession thst feels too big for my head so its straining at the#seams. its also weird bc since its religion my brain is doing that awful thing where its questioning my interest in the topic like r u#questioning ur lack of faith? and im like bro no this is academic interest leave me alone. bc im prone to intrusive thoughts and obsessive#behavior. so thsts fun. but its not too unmanageable rn. so its interesting#idk i probably sound unhinged. lmao i headcanon ✨️ catholic!arthur ✨️ and his fall from grace in the eyes of the church rip#ay religion in not necessarily bad but human institutions are usually fucked#merlin rambling#unrelated
