Du Jiaojun and Huan Gongyi
Two of Cao Cao's wives. One is the famed Lady Du of the Cao Cao/Guan Yu Love Triangle and the other became the mother of the celebrated prodigy Cao Chong. Cao Cao loves the unconventional. Du Jiaojun, light-haired, angular and bizarrely tall would be considered unsightly and ridiculous in the traditional Han society, just as much as the plump, ungainly Huan Gongyi. Both have endured unpleasant childhoods as a result but once Cao Cao enters their lives, their futures brighten as they see a side of the world they never saw just as the world sees a different side of them. Not to say their individual stories with Cao Cao are easy. In fact both are quite chaotic. But then, how else do love stories come about? Okay, I must confess, Du Jiaojun is a celebrity likeness to the magnificent Gwendoline Christie who I consider absolutely wondrous. I like tall women, not in a fetish way but in the artistic, aesthetic sense. Gwendoline Christie is one of those women who makes me feel all sunny inside and I couldn't resist modelling this character off of her. Yes, yes, I know there generally weren't blonde people in Ancient China but aside from the fact that a comic book aesthetic requires a diverse palette even in historical settings, the fact that she looks outlandish in-universe is what builds her story.
As to Huan Gongyi, I’m just waiting for someone to say ‘Damn, Chong’s Mama So Thic!’ or something along those lines. You can’t see my bemused expression but trust me, it’s there.

Image one: Colin, Amangeaux, and Deli are sat on the ground, grieving after the battle. Amangeaux holds her head in one hand and clutches Deli's with the other. Colin lays a hand on Deli's shoulder. Behind them, the white outlines of Raphaniel and Karna have their backs to the group, but reach back to place their hands on Colin's shoulders. It is captioned, "We did it."
Image two: Same as the first image, but with Raphaniel and Karna outlined and colored like the rest of the group but darkened in shadow. It is captioned, "We did it," and repeated a second time in white ink.

"Du Barry Was a Lady" featured Mother in her Technicolor debut. Unfortunately, she only made a cameo appearance. It was a gag at the end of the 'I Love an Esquire Girl' number. Her name is in the last line of the lyrics, and suddenly there she is, on the arm of her pal Red Skelton. The camera closes in and she gives a wink. The moment was filmed in September 1942. Mother soon became pregnant with me and this bit, as well as another cameo in "The Youngest Profession," was shot just before completion of her next big film, "Slightly Dangerous." Besides "Slightly Dangerous," those two brief appearances were all the studio had to offer her public for many months.
While on maternity leave, the studio would have made efforts to keep her name before the public. She, however, took care of that herself, thanks to my father and their trouble-plagued union. Meanwhile, her studio kept hoping she'd get back to work. They announced to the newspapers that she was going to act in various films. The star of "Du Barry Was a Lady," Lucille Ball, replaced her in one of these projects, "Best Foot Forward." In that movie Mother would have played herself again, in a story about a movie star who accepts an invitation to be the prom date of one of her most devoted teenaged fans. -Cheryl Crane

Li Qian and Qin Yilu
Two of Cao Cao’s most valued lieutenants, of whom sadly not much is known. So I’m putting my own spin on things.
Li Qian of Jiyin first meets Cao Cao when the young prodigy first take sup office in the capital as a Captain of the North Wall Gate. Li Qian serves as his Adjutant and demonstrates a forthright and honourable character which Cao Cao admires greatly. One might be surprised the famously crafty Cao Cao gets on so well with a man of upright morals but Li Qian understands Luoyang very well and knows that it’s no safe place for good-hearted men. While Cao Cao isn’t afraid to play dirty, respect for the law means a great deal to him and in this, the two are united and Li Qian rises beside Cao Cao as a stalwart and much-valued officer. Through Li Qian, another legend is born; that of his nephew, Li Dian.
Qin Yilu has never been a lucky individual and ever since his father, Qin Jie, raked up massive gambling debts with the powerful Cao Song, the boy was a hostage of the Cao family and became a friend of the young, impressionable Cao Aman. As Qin Yilu’s prospects improve beside Cao Cao’s, he uses his one reliable skill, that of being ignored and dismissed by others, to his advantage as he begins serving as Cao Cao’s spy, send into the courts of enemy lords to watch, listen, learn and pass on information. Qin Yilu’s no slouch in military matters either; while his father was a terrible gambler, he was an excellent commander of troops and as a commander of irregular militia, Qin Yilu can be counted on to appear in the most perilous of places, largely ignored by the majority of the enemy, ready to provide support for Cao Cao. One matter that a Cao Cao arranged when the two were young was Qin Yilu’s marriage to another hostage of the Cao family, Miss Du Jiaojun.
