hii what are white ladder laces ?

Hey friend. White ladder laces most commonly look like this (straight bar style):

And unfortunately you may see them on a lot of leather/military/hypermasculine type of fetish blogs around here. Ladder lacing has kind of a complicated history but in summary, the colors of this style of lace pattern on combat boots have been used to signal affiliations with various identities and political ideologies since at least the 70s. Different colors have had meanings that have morphed over time. But almost without fail - and across the world for a long time now, not just in the US - white ladder laces have been worn exclusively by skinheads, neo nazis, and white supremacist groups.

There are those who will claim it’s just part of their fetish, that it is used by alternative kinds of skinheads, that it’s just linked to power dynamics, whatever. Do not buy that shit, and don’t let them convince you to do it. They say that because male fetish spaces are spaces where nazi ideology has always been more able to proliferate unchecked under the guise of kink. The links between skinhead and gay fetish communities are really interesting but it’s a topic too big for this ask. Basically, I can promise you that I have almost never seen or met someone wearing these who did not know perfectly well what kind of people they were signaling to.

I hope you never see someone wearing them in real life, but if you do and you aren’t willing and equipped to commit an act of violence (which ummm I would *never* condone violence but this would not be.. the worst time to take out your face covering and a baseball bat) you should probably walk in the other direction.

Comic!Hobie has switched from his iconic converse to blue-laced combat boots!

Originally, all throughout his comic book run, Hobie has worn different pairs of converse.

However this was changed for the movie to better reflect 1970's British culture, which I spoke about here.

Hence, Hobies line to Gwen 'Are those my Chucks?'. A nod to the footwear he typically wears in the comics.

However now, with Spider-Punk's newest run hitting shelves, it seems Comic!Hobie has switched to boots and blue laces as well!

And, just in line with punk aesthetics - they're ladder laced in line with the old Laces Code.

With Hobie killing Commander-in-Chief President Osborn, these make complete sense for him.

How cool!!!! I really hope this means they're taking feedback from fans 😁

Funnily enough this is also the split between People Who Think Police Reform Works and the People Who Would Punch a Cop With No Hesitation (let’s be real Jason can absolutely blue ladder lace his boots)

I like to think that whenever Commissioner Gordon comes over for dinner at the manor the Anti Capitalists/ACAB group nopes out to Jason’s apartment for dinner and a game of who can destroy the most hostile architecture in an hour.

(Listen people may come for me for putting Dick in the Rich group but I put him there because he was adopted by Bruce the youngest and probably adapted to the new lifestyle pretty quickly. Cassandra isn’t in there because I’m not 100% where to put her)

Drawing legs was. So Hard. And cleaning the anatomy to not be silly goofy was also a pain, the 3rd image uses a model from Justsketch.me ( pog website its v handy ) but as ya can see. Did not help me on this one. So i scrapped him going super-maid to just eyballing it and hoping.

Tedious to draw all the ruffles! Enjoyed it once i got past the sketch stage! I like doing lines & shadows and everything else not so much LOL

I use fill tool for colouring i rarely do it by hand

i am so pleased with myself rn i dropped a few stitches on my project which is lace and it was so hard to build it back up to being correct but i have it like 95% looking correct. i can't tell if it looks wonky now because i didn't perfectly reconstruct everything i dropped or just because the fact that that section involves 3 yarn overs and the tension is totally wack now .. but it's close enough that im done with it now and im so happy i didn't just give up on fixing that

what does ladder lacing mean

Ladder lacing in regular meaning is just a secure way of tying boots, the laces are woven to look like the rungs of a ladder

HOWEVER

My tags are specifically talking about ladder lacing in punk which related to the history of lace code that was a means of communicating with other punks without police knowing. Ladder lace code has a deep an old history is punk culture and it’s important to remember that lace code is regional and no two areas will have identical lace coding!
