still freaking out over Hobie's design— i love every detail about it but specifically the color of his shoe laces
yellow means you're anti-racist, and then blue means you've killed a cop.
so not only will this dude beat the shit out of any bigot (and look out for one of his own like he did with miles the whole time), his "canon event" in the movie was probably killing a police captain or something

Hear me out, I know Hobie's shoes aren't Doc Martins, but look at the laces! They're ladder laced AND laced at the end of the boots. Now look at the colours. One is yellow the other is blue.
Hobie is a punk and ages ago lace code was still around, so, if you search it up, you can find that yellow lace means that you're Anti-Racist, and blue means Cop Killer (or still Protest of Police Brutality).
Idk if someone else thought about it before me, but I still wanted to share.
(Sorry if there are any errors, English is not my first language.)

"lace culture is completely dead! it doesn't matter what color your laces are anymore!" to YOU maybe. but if i see a bitch in red ladder lacing i'm running the other way so damn fast. i'm not gonna stop and ask if they know that's a neo-nazi code, i'm gonna assume they know and did it on purpose and get myself out of that situation as quickly and safely as possible

This is probably going to be a very niche question but
Batfam and co
Do they know Lace Code for their boots? Do they follow it?
And which/how many of them would have the "cop killer" laces?
I need to know

The bat family is neatly split into two categories:
The Rich and rich adjacent: Bruce, Tim, Damian, Alfred, Dick
The anti capitalist Poor: Jason, Stephenie, Duke, Harper
Funnily enough this is also the split between People Who Think Police Reform Works and the People Who Would Punch a Cop With No Hesitation (let’s be real Jason can absolutely blue ladder lace his boots)
I like to think that whenever Commissioner Gordon comes over for dinner at the manor the Anti Capitalists/ACAB group nopes out to Jason’s apartment for dinner and a game of who can destroy the most hostile architecture in an hour.
(Listen people may come for me for putting Dick in the Rich group but I put him there because he was adopted by Bruce the youngest and probably adapted to the new lifestyle pretty quickly. Cassandra isn’t in there because I’m not 100% where to put her)

Begging the ninjago fandom to check lace code before drawing the characters in punk or least punk-like attire, I have seen many of you accidentally make Mr. E/Echo look like a nazi

The worst part about following lace code is that people will say “I like your shoelaces” and I have to pretend that I feel completely neutral about that phrase.

okay i'm just making this it's own post so it doesn't get hidden in the notes and i can ramble about it in a longer format.
lace code is all about your shoelaces, the color, and the way that you lace them lace code has been used in the doc marten community with how they tie their laces, and the colors represent different things.
if you're heard about basically the handkerchief stuff where queer people would put a different color handkerchief in their left or right back pocket and that would symbolize something, it's similar.
but different colors can range from being a punk to being a literal nazi with lace code. the color red with laces is the color associated with nazis.doc martens doesn't even sell red laces on their website because of lace code. this specific color was used by skinheads (aka racists) do convey their social and political ideologies. ladder lace and purple meant that you were gay (now it mean you're queer), yellow is antiracist, blue is 1312 (acab), red and white is basically onsight (nazis and white supremacy). this also only applies if you ladder lace them.
there are a lot of younger people going "we need to reclaim lace code" "i should be able to ladder lace my red shoelaces" and like if you think that's a good idea..........
so basically it's similar to "we should reclaim dog whistles." like go right ahead but don't be surprised when people fight you for i, ya know? like if you spout dog whistles people are going to think you're a white supremacist. wear red laces people are going to think that you're a neo nazi.
and the point of all of these things is to be subtle. to make other's think that you're crazy and that this is just something simple and it "doesn't mean anything." i hope that makes sense!

I've seen a lot of ATSV fans mention Hobie's blue laces but I haven't seen a shoelace code guide for people who are just hearing about this that's meant to reach the ATSV fans. The Shoelace Code is a code used originally in the punk scene, but has floated into other alt subcultures. The code isn't used on just any shoe, but specifically black Doc Martens and with them being ladder laced. It was designed to help people know who was an ally who shared similar values to you and who was a foe who held the opposite values of yours. Thus they caused a lot of fights and targeted attacks toward people wearing laces you didn't agree with. White - You're a white supremacist Red - You're a Neo Nazi Blue - You've killed a cop or are anti-law enforcement Yellow - You've been/are a part of an anti-racist movement or are anti racist/facist Purple - You're LGBTQ+ or a strong ally of the community Pink - Feminist Orange - Rarely used but can signify you're an exconvict or a sharp (skinhead against racial prejudice) Green - You're just neutral or a peace punk Black - You're a traditional punk kid or just bought some Doc Martens and are wearing them without meaning Lately, people have stopped using the lace code as much and many people in alt subcultures have let go of the meanings. However, some people still stick by the shoelace code strongly. There are DEFINITELY more thought out posts on the shoelace code to read. I suggest if you're someone who's interested in it, really do a lot of research into it.

First post ey!
So it has been running around in my head for a while...
I just realized we never ever learned why Hobie cared about the Miles that much. You know, blocking his way on the way of meeting with Miguel, giving him little tips, constantly trying to keep him away from that talk about how Miles' father suppose to die for the canon timeline. I mean, it kinda happens to all of the Spiders right? Why specifically care about Miles' dad. Plus he is a cop and I can see Hobie fidgeting with his ACAB pin at the corner while the talk happens.
And when I look at his blue shoe laces, (which they represent the owner of the laces had killed a cop. for more information I highly recommend searching Doc Martens lace code. Yes guys, it's still a thing among the punks. Not as serious as before but still a thing) I kinda only can imagine Hobart Brown killed Jefferson Davis in his own universe.
So it may be as some kind of accident, or it may be just classic 'good guy get killed in the arms of the spider' scene. But you know, Spider-punk is not our ordinary the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider™. His life style is different, fight style is different, and since the majority of spider's timeline starts with bad choices (like hurting the innocent in the name of revenge of Uncle Ben etc.) maybe Hobie's bad choice was slightly different. Maybe his bad choice was killing the cop.
And I can only imagine the young, angry Spider-punk who thinks cops are only on his way and only way to get rid of them is treating them like villains. And who can blame him, really

excuse me while I add a third Disco Elysium OC to my roster...
God, I love how this game is written. It's so fun to just... make little blorbos based on how Harrier du Bois' fucked up brain voices will see them. A heehee. Giggle.
Anyway, enjoy~ He's still being developed, but I hope this teaser will tide some of yous over <3
~~~
VISUAL CALCULUS: A young man. No older than his late 20s. 172 centimeters, approximately 68 kilograms. Bright, outgoing-- probably has loads of friends.
LOGIC: Someone this popular doesn't take for a solo flâneur.
ENCYCLOPEDIA: "Flâneur"-- the coolest of the cool, but in that introspective, cool international poet way. A person without chains or concerns, wandering the urban paths for no better reason than the city has solid ground and the flâneur has feet. Basically, this kid is flâneuring right now-- aimlessly milling about, simply for the pleasure of it.
HALF-LIGHT: Or so he says.
CONCEPTUALIZATION: What kind of crowd would someone this cool and casual draw?
1. What does he look like?
Me. I'm his crowd. He rolls with guys like me.
Seems like a pop-collared prick if you ask me. I don't even need to see him to smell it. Elitism, baby.
Why do we care? We're just asking directions.
PERCEPTION: Now, remember-- you can't determine everything there is to know about a guy based on how he looks, brother.
LOGIC: But we can guess.
PERCEPTION: Sure. He's got a lot of pockets. A dark, snug-fitting ribbed tank top. A t-shirt, cropped at the ribs. A heavy-duty canvas worker's jacket, again with lots of pockets. A bandana around his neck. Work gloves, a duffel bag - so many pockets - and a good, strong pair of leather work boots.
SHIVERS: Hang on. Something isn't right here.
HALF-LIGHT: This whole time, you've been listening to his casual directions, the Lieutenant jotting each one down with quiet affirmations of 'mhm' or 'what's next?' You've been looking at him, haven't even taken your eyes off him.
SHIVERS: But neither has he.
HALF-LIGHT: He's been watching you, watching him.
[SKILL CHECK: COMPOSURE -- GODLY: SUCCESS] You manage to look almost bored, lazily passing your eyes over him again, paying extra attention to what you see.
PERCEPTION: We missed something.
CONCEPTUALIZATION: He runs with an alternative crowd. But not with them. This kid doesn't have an air of popularity-- it's infamy. Look at his bootstraps.
ENCYCLOPEDIA: Revolutionary groups often adopt subtle signs to recognize one another in the wild, especially when expressing a certain view or lifestyle which may invite dangerous interactions. This young man is gritty, savvy in your Marazovian sociopolitical lingo. He's a comrade, of the working class.
HALF-LIGHT: No. Not a comrade. He may not be a fascist, but he's not quite our friend.
PERCEPTION: Check his boots again.
CONCEPTUALIZATION: Blue laces. For the code.
ESPRIT-DE-CORPS: Cop-killer.
