"lace culture is completely dead! it doesn't matter what color your laces are anymore!" to YOU maybe. but if i see a bitch in red ladder lacing i'm running the other way so damn fast. i'm not gonna stop and ask if they know that's a neo-nazi code, i'm gonna assume they know and did it on purpose and get myself out of that situation as quickly and safely as possible

hey, dinguses and dingdongs
lace code is very much alive and you need to learn what it actually is
if it was truly dead, no one would fuckin talk about it
lace code is using colored laces, ladder laced on work boots, to signify political stances and punk status
there is very little debate about which color means what and it's basically exclusively online
here are the colors, to my knowledge ;; black - baby punk/new boots ; white - KKK ; red - nazi/fascist ; orange - n/a ; yellow - antifacist ; green - ecological activist ; blue - cop fighter/killer ; purple - queer/activist ; pink - feminist
these are the colors and meanings i've seen most often, that are offered in shops (aside from white and red, for obvi reasons), and/or are talked about the most in different punk spaces (online and offline)
while i have seen people try to reclaim red and white, please don't. while people can use context clues to tell that's what you're doing, it just muddies the waters so that actual nazis can wiggle their way into our spaces more than they already have. make them stand out like the sore thumbs they look like.

still freaking out over Hobie's design— i love every detail about it but specifically the color of his shoe laces
yellow means you're anti-racist, and then blue means you've killed a cop.
so not only will this dude beat the shit out of any bigot (and look out for one of his own like he did with miles the whole time), his "canon event" in the movie was probably killing a police captain or something

Hear me out, I know Hobie's shoes aren't Doc Martins, but look at the laces! They're ladder laced AND laced at the end of the boots. Now look at the colours. One is yellow the other is blue.
Hobie is a punk and ages ago lace code was still around, so, if you search it up, you can find that yellow lace means that you're Anti-Racist, and blue means Cop Killer (or still Protest of Police Brutality).
Idk if someone else thought about it before me, but I still wanted to share.
(Sorry if there are any errors, English is not my first language.)

Begging the ninjago fandom to check lace code before drawing the characters in punk or least punk-like attire, I have seen many of you accidentally make Mr. E/Echo look like a nazi

Is lace code dead?
I seen a TikTok of someone who ask if lace code was dead, because they wanted to have red laces but didn’t want to be seen as a Nazi. The comments were pretty mix and people were arguing other it.
I’m from the mid west and lace code has been dead here, and I genuinely didn’t think this was still an issue. But I want your opinion.

This is probably going to be a very niche question but
Batfam and co
Do they know Lace Code for their boots? Do they follow it?
And which/how many of them would have the "cop killer" laces?
I need to know

Lace Code Only For Doc Martens??
I've heard this too many times, with some different variations here and there too like " If your punk you have to have doc Martens," "doc Martens are the only punk combat boots" blah blah blah
like they aren't so expensive!! T-T. Good for you guys if you can afford it but Im a little confused why a movement for the poor working class is prioritizing buying expensive shoes to be part of the community. Thoughts?

speaking my truth and that is I cannot fucking STAND what alternative subcultures have become recently. what I’m talking about is the “culture” that now surrounds being alternative. I recently saw someone say that we need to make being alternative ugly again and i literally couldn’t agree more. alternative subcultures have ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS at their core been political. music be damned the music is just a way to communicate your politics. YOU CANNOT BE CONSERVATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE‼️‼️‼️ YOU JUST CANT‼️‼️you cannot name a true alternative subculture that doesn’t have inherently anti-fascist roots and beliefs. with alternative subculture STYLES becoming more popular there’s such a huge uptick in people completely ignoring the beliefs that are the literal root of what these subcultures are. dressing alternative has and will always be a way to reject the socially acceptable standard of beauty. “clean goth” this “clean punk” that. NO!!! NOPE!!! that bullshit doesnt exist!! at their roots punk, metal head, grunge, goth, hippie or whatever the fuck is meant to be out their and dirty. you’re making a statement with the way you present yourself and if you don’t want to do that ITS FINE!! THATS LITERALLY SO OKAY!! but you don’t get to disrespect the decades of culture by making it more acceptable to everyone around you!!
I’m sleep deprived and I’m yapping so idk if this makes any sense, but as someone who has a special interest in alternative subcultures seeing what most of them have become now a days (especially through social media *cough* tik tok *cough*) it makes me so fucking MAD!!!
anyways ladder your laces and bats nest your hair and go brick a police windshield and scare conservatives like the people who fought for our rights before us intended!!🫶🏻🫶🏻

@gehayi
okay i'm just making this it's own post so it doesn't get hidden in the notes and i can ramble about it in a longer format.
lace code is all about your shoelaces, the color, and the way that you lace them lace code has been used in the doc marten community with how they tie their laces, and the colors represent different things.
if you're heard about basically the handkerchief stuff where queer people would put a different color handkerchief in their left or right back pocket and that would symbolize something, it's similar.
but different colors can range from being a punk to being a literal nazi with lace code. the color red with laces is the color associated with nazis.doc martens doesn't even sell red laces on their website because of lace code. this specific color was used by skinheads (aka racists) do convey their social and political ideologies. ladder lace and purple meant that you were gay (now it mean you're queer), yellow is antiracist, blue is 1312 (acab), red and white is basically onsight (nazis and white supremacy). this also only applies if you ladder lace them.
there are a lot of younger people going "we need to reclaim lace code" "i should be able to ladder lace my red shoelaces" and like if you think that's a good idea..........
so basically it's similar to "we should reclaim dog whistles." like go right ahead but don't be surprised when people fight you for i, ya know? like if you spout dog whistles people are going to think you're a white supremacist. wear red laces people are going to think that you're a neo nazi.
and the point of all of these things is to be subtle. to make other's think that you're crazy and that this is just something simple and it "doesn't mean anything." i hope that makes sense!

I never want to ladder lace another pair of doc martens again, mine don't even have zippers. It hurts, it looks GREAT but it hurts to undo

Punks (especially older punks from the LA area) I have a question. I’m playing Regina in Rock of Ages, which takes place in West Hollywood in the mid-80s. I want to represent through what my character wears that she’s a punk (or at least has been affected by punk culture in her activism) and what she stands for. I also want to imply she’s some kind of queer so I was thinking purple (or pink for queer/feminist if that works) laces on her docs as well as getting patches and pins for a battle vest.
My costumer has given me quite a bit of freedom but I know only very surface level things about punk culture as I’m just barely stepping into punk/alt culture myself. My biggest concern is getting the lace code right for the time/area but other suggestions for things I can add are greatly appreciated!
