I finished Mavel's Echo and I enjoyed it. Once again I didn't see any of the issues with the show that all the people on YouTube keep bitching about. Yes, the Echo isn't like the Echo in the comics. The Echo from the comics would have been boring as shit. She is a good side character but wouldn't make a good main character. This new revised Echo is a hell of a lot more interesting with all the Lacota Indian lore they added. Also, her echoing the skills of her ancestors is far better than than her copying the powers of the person she is fighting. I also like that they retained her relationship with King Pin. All in all I thought Echo was a good show and it is a shame it's getting so much hate.

While she wasn’t - to the best of our knowledge - queer, I wanted to share the story of Crow woman The Other Magpie, who fought alongside third-gender batée Osh-Tisch against the Lakota at the Battle of the Rosebud.

We talked a bit about The Other Magpie in our podcast on Osh-Tisch, including a discussion about how exactly one goes about wearing a woodpecker on one’s head. Unfortunately, there are no known photos of The Other Magpie, but I did a bit of follow-up research, and found some photos of other Crow people wearing birds to give us an idea of how she may have looked riding in to battle. Here’s one example - this is Crow warrior Two Whistles, or Ishíchoshtupsh, who also fought against the Sioux, and was a contemporary of Osh-Tisch and The Other Magpie
