Gah forgot to post last week! Alas, a bunch of doodles of Gideon’s existence I made with @nichenarratives.

I’ll leave these here without context because I’m terrible like that.

This is the result of hours on VC, an AU created based on a single silly expression and the slow spiral of insanity that eventually becomes...

Gideon Nisi Schlemiel, or the "Anti-Mordecai". (All art by @thisisanerror )

A bookish and reserved man, Gideon doesn't dislike talking to people, but he certainly struggles with it. He's anxious, easily flustered and prone to nervous sweats. But he's a very kind man with an affinity for math and botanicals.

Gideon has a few... Struggles in everyday life, ones his mother tries to assist with, but generally pushes too hard on. He has a high reliance on routine and order. He suffers from texture and taste sensitivities (he hates crunchy things, sour things and spicy things) and prefers baggy clothes due to intense tactile sensitivities, also avoiding uncomfortably tight or clingy fabrics altogether.

Despite Gideon's difficulties, he has a strong advocate in his sister, Esther. A no-nonsense and feisty personality, Esther will mercilessly tease her brother - it is her right, as his little sister, she says - but should anyone else mess with Gideon, heads will roll in short order. Even mother is not safe from her wrath when it comes to protecting Gideon's gentle nature.

With Gideon's differences compared to his canon counterpart, his family life is also quite different. His mother finds Gideon to be too soft; she and Isaac often argue regarding nature versus nurture in regard to his eccentricities, as well as Esther's near indomitable spirit. These arguments never resolve and soon after Mordecai turns eleven, they part ways, with Esther and Gideon ending up with their father in St Louis.

Isaac ends up as bookkeeper for the Little Daisy, getting his children jobs in the cafe when they're old enough. Once the Lackadaisy Speakeasy opens however, Esther is soon drawn into the underground world of bootlegging, torture, murder and everything in between. (Mostly torture - she had a lot of repressed anger about the divorce.)

Gideon is far more content to continue working the books or the cafe with his father until Isaac's health declines too far and he is forced to retire. It's then Gideon learns the true nature of the Little Daisy Cafe - as well as the existence of Lackadaisy in the caves below - and he...

Well, he freaks out a little.

Good thing Esther is there to slap some sense into him.

Since there’s so many Jewish holidays I drew the heller kids! There is really so much going on help me it’s a new holiday every other day-

What is your opnion about a au where Rose and Esther casually travel to S.Louis.. and then they end up recognizing Mordecai while he's with the Savoys

The result is a VERY awkward conversation with them pissed off because of "YOU DISAPPEARED IN THIN AIR 8 YEARS AGO WTF MORDECAI" and Mordecai's like "I.. was in trouble, and then I was busy. And I send money to you so you knew I was alive!" And his sisters are like "AH THAT'S BULLSHIT"

While they're fighting and screaming bloody murder, the Savoys are right behind Mordecai casually eating popcorn

GOD I love that goddamn AU SO FUCKIN MUCH.

This is such a good concept because I'm a sucker for siblings finding their other sibling who left them a long time ago. It's bittersweet, but honestly? Good food. *inhales this AU Kirby style.*

so imagine your esther life is pretty bad money problem due to your mom sickness and oh she dead now and you decided to leave New York and take your younger sister with you but she in a relationship with a mobster but you get to come with you with a little lie because you can’t leave Her and she get herself killed so you and her get on the first train and it to St. Louis ok cool you make it there get a job as a cleaning staff at some hotel and then you see your brother you haven’t see for 8 years and who you thought was dead dressed like

Esther cannot believe what was standing before her. Figure who look like her brother dressed like some voodoo swamp priest walk with two white cats who look dressed similarly so that couldn’t be him and besides there many other tuxedo cats

Esther? He said you know that voice and oh you recognize those eyebrows that your brother there was a awkward silence between the both of you

Sparing Ivy

He has no hesitation in trying to kill Rocky

He very nearly headshots Freckle who only survives by the skin of his teeth

But he has Ivy locked in his sights and could clearly take her out but chooses not to

Why? If you have read my long ramble about the sentimentality of Mordecai Heller there could be a few factors at play

It could be that having been raised with his two sisters Mordecai can't stomach the idea of gunning down a young girl

It may also be that Ivy is Atlas's goddaughter, and as much of Mordecai's motivation his tied to his desire to find out the truth about his death due to him being a surrogate father to him, he may feel that Atlas would be horrified by him doing it.

It may also be (and this may be my feral Vikdecai side showing) that Mordecai knows how important Ivy is to Viktor as his surrogate daughter, and as he feels guilty about the kneecapping incident already, he doesn't want to do something that would cause him even more pain

Could always be a combination of all three of course
