Gah forgot to post last week! Alas, a bunch of doodles of Gideon’s existence I made with @nichenarratives.

I’ll leave these here without context because I’m terrible like that.

This is the result of hours on VC, an AU created based on a single silly expression and the slow spiral of insanity that eventually becomes...

Gideon Nisi Schlemiel, or the "Anti-Mordecai". (All art by @thisisanerror )

A bookish and reserved man, Gideon doesn't dislike talking to people, but he certainly struggles with it. He's anxious, easily flustered and prone to nervous sweats. But he's a very kind man with an affinity for math and botanicals.

Gideon has a few... Struggles in everyday life, ones his mother tries to assist with, but generally pushes too hard on. He has a high reliance on routine and order. He suffers from texture and taste sensitivities (he hates crunchy things, sour things and spicy things) and prefers baggy clothes due to intense tactile sensitivities, also avoiding uncomfortably tight or clingy fabrics altogether.

Despite Gideon's difficulties, he has a strong advocate in his sister, Esther. A no-nonsense and feisty personality, Esther will mercilessly tease her brother - it is her right, as his little sister, she says - but should anyone else mess with Gideon, heads will roll in short order. Even mother is not safe from her wrath when it comes to protecting Gideon's gentle nature.

With Gideon's differences compared to his canon counterpart, his family life is also quite different. His mother finds Gideon to be too soft; she and Isaac often argue regarding nature versus nurture in regard to his eccentricities, as well as Esther's near indomitable spirit. These arguments never resolve and soon after Mordecai turns eleven, they part ways, with Esther and Gideon ending up with their father in St Louis.

Isaac ends up as bookkeeper for the Little Daisy, getting his children jobs in the cafe when they're old enough. Once the Lackadaisy Speakeasy opens however, Esther is soon drawn into the underground world of bootlegging, torture, murder and everything in between. (Mostly torture - she had a lot of repressed anger about the divorce.)

Gideon is far more content to continue working the books or the cafe with his father until Isaac's health declines too far and he is forced to retire. It's then Gideon learns the true nature of the Little Daisy Cafe - as well as the existence of Lackadaisy in the caves below - and he...

Well, he freaks out a little.

Good thing Esther is there to slap some sense into him.

He's a little confused, so be gentle with him, please. We don't want to call Esther to breathe you for being cruel to her big brother.

Sweet baby angel, Gideon Nisi Schlemiel? He's such a darling boy! @esto-es-un-error & I's pride and joy! He deserves to be loved and protected by someone who can carry him in one arm and his prospective foliage purchases in the other simultaneously.

this anti mordecai AU actually seems fun, and it made me more interested when viktor is involved, oh my god viktor cares for him, viktor cares... sobbing and shaking in happiness

Bunch of messy vikdecai doodles. Well, it’s mostly Gideon (anti mordecai) which is why he looks so anxious lol. I’m struggling to come up with scenarios to draw of them so I’m fishing for ideas.

Gideon’s very pathetic and helpless nature somehow draws in hunks in the area who end up falling hard for him. This has inadvertently turn him into a heartbreaker in the ‘canon’ timeline as he’s oblivious asf.

Viktor became his first boyfriend who Esther broke up with for him when they left for the Marigold. In truth, she never told him shit because she didn’t see the point. At the Marigold he got with Nico because he took and interest and kept rizzing him and all that, but even tho he became very enamored with Nico he never truly got over Viktor.

Naturally, when they come face to face again Gideon is like, why not date both of you so I don’t have to pick 🥺 (said more in character of course). Nico and Viktor hated this idea but both agree because they both love Gideon.

“But Error how does this make sense with the overall plot when they work two for different speakeasy’s now???” Hhhhh don’t think about it.

Ps: here's Gideon, the twin brother Mordecai calls his 'twin bother', but he has ice cream so his day is perfect.

I think Mordecai would have gone through that autistic child phase of making piercing eye contact with anyone who talks to you because your parents told you to look people in the eye and you haven’t yet figured out how much is too much.

Gideon hates suits. While he'll wear a cotton button down, he prefers to wear sweaters and sweater vests, and keeps his tie loose so his throat isn't restricted. Even suit pants don't feel right, but he wears long johns underneath to keep them off his skin, so he's still 'respectably dressed' while at work.
