Vacuum Drying Oven
Tumblr media
A vacuum drying oven is a specialized piece of equipment used in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, materials science, and food processing for drying heat-sensitive materials or substances that are susceptible to oxidation or degradation when exposed to air. The vacuum drying oven operates under reduced pressure, typically achieved by a vacuum pump, which lowers the boiling point of water or other solvents, allowing for gentle drying at lower temperatures.

Snacks Flavor Texts
Tumblr media
When you're as busy as us, it's hard to find time to sit down and have a proper meal sometimes. But that doesn't mean you should skimp on eating! You have to keep fuel in your system for optimal output. Here's a collection of snacks and easy things to eat while you're on the move or under the wire!
Tumblr media
Sonic's Big Ring Party Platter:
Sonic: I've got two constants in my life: jumping into Big Rings and shoving chili dogs in my face. It only makes sense to combine the two, right? Best of all, it's something I can share with all my friends! And if they're tired of chili dogs? More for me! Heh heh!
Omochao: Please do not try to jump into the platter! It will not warp you to a Chaos Emerald! It will only make a mess!
Tumblr media
Tails's Eat Red Spheres:
I spend a lot of time either in the lab or in the garage, and I don't want to get food all over my projects. That's why I'll make a big bowl of these to snack on! They're tasty and energizing, and the wet/dry vac takes care of them if one of my tails knocks over the bowl. Not that… it's a common problem… *ahem.*
Tumblr media
Tails's Tornado Chips:
While I'm waiting for my coding to compile, I like to chill out with something tasty and with a satisfying crunch. Lotus chips are great for satisfying that snacking urge while being healthier than many alternatives. And if you spin them, they almost look like my tails in flight!
Tumblr media
Blaze's Royal Roasted Pinwheels
There was once a gala event in the imperial palace where all the ovens failed. I stepped in and offered to assist the chefs by using my flames. Normally that is taboo, but I live to serve my people. The staff was very thankful, too. Since then, I once in a while return to the kitchen to help. I am… not the best at cooking, but my control over flames allows me to prepare everything in record time and achieve the perfect char!
Tumblr media
Blaze's Daily Respite
Being the imperial princess means a great deal of executive oversight! My days can be filled with seemingly endless decrees, declarations, and other documentation. A plate of these allows me to power through my duties and not feel famished by the end of the day.
Tumblr media
Shadow's Burrito Blasts:
Rouge: I remember the last time you made these! The perfect warm meal while on the go. Shadow: I didn't make them for you.
Tumblr media
Rouge's Luxurious Light Flare:
I'm a woman of expensive tastes, so when I dine I want everything to taste expensive. This treat is succulent and decadent, but light enough to leave room for more.
Tumblr media
Eggman's Poppin' Eggcorn:
Ah! This was the signature treat at Eggmanland…until Sonic ruined everything. Regardless, I'll prepare a big batch to snack on when reviewing my files or relaxing after a long, hard day of global conquest.
Fun Fact: This one appears in Sonic Unleashed

Danny Fenton’s Field Trip to the Ghost Zone!
I have had the wonderful opportunity to write a fic inspired by the art of the wonderful @arisu-artnfics as part of @ecto-implosion. I ended up thinking it would be fun to bring in a trope from a completely different fandom, and write a Peter Parker Field Trip fic for Danny Fenton. Enjoy!
Chapter 3: The Field Trip
Ao3 | First | Previous | Next
Dash Baxter hadn’t expected that his class field trip would end up like this. He had been expecting a boring day at the planetarium, but instead they had found themselves in the Ghost Zone!
A lot of things had happened all at once. First they had fallen through a portal and landed in the Ghost Zone. Then their bus driver had abandoned them to dive through the portal as it closed, trapping them all behind him. And then, while the rest of the group was grappling with the fact that they had somehow ended up in another dimension, Fenton and his friends had gone and recruited a ghost to fly them home, somehow!
Honestly, Dash could deal with all of that. It was a lot, but he was an Amity Parker, born and raised! What was weirding him out was how relaxed the nerds were about all of this!
Dash wanted it on the record that he wasn’t scared (definitely not). He was just a little nervous, okay? Don’t judge him! They were in the Ghost Zone! How could he not be at least a little nervous? This is where the ghosts lived! Everyone should be nervous!
Not the nerds though. They only seemed to be mildly annoyed by the fact they were stuck in the afterlife another dimension. He could understand Manson and Valerie, they were both pretty scary themselves. He could even sort of understand Foley, but Fenton was infamous for hiding from even the most tame ghosts, disappearing to some hidey-hole until Phantom took care of them. Heck, he even abandoned his friends a lot of the time, leaving them to be saved by Phantom. So why the heck was Fenton so chill now that they were literally flying through the Ghost Zone?
Dash wasn’t gonna be stuck wondering for long, Mr. Lancer had the same question. “Mr. Fenton, How are you so calm!”
Danny stared at him. “Mr. Lancer, the portal to the Zone is in my parents lab. Did you really think that me and my friends wouldn’t have tried going through?”
Mr. Lancer spluttered at Fenton’s dry response. “I had assumed that your parents at least had enough lab safety in place that you wouldn’t have succeeded!”
Dash may have been a jock, but he wasn’t stupid okay. He had seen enough movies to tell the difference between a laugh and a cackle, and the way that Fenton’s laughter threw his head back and shook his whole body was absolutely a mad scientist’s cackle. The sound almost scared him more than the fact they were stuck in the Ghost Zone.
“Mr. Lancer, we’re Fentons. If my parents go too long without blowing something up, me and Jazz will do something ourselves just to make sure it’s not too quiet.”
Fenton’s friends were nodding along. “Yeah, the first time Danny slept over at my house it was too quiet for him to fall asleep. So he went down to the kitchen, modified the toaster oven to reach 3000°, and poured molten salt into the bathtub. Gave my parent’s a heart attack.”
Lancer’s eye twitched. “How old were you when you did this?”
Fenton shrugged. “Like six I think? I’m not sure. I did learn to get permission first after that though.”
Dash and Paulina shared a look. Holy shit, Fenton was a mad scientist. Like, it was common knowledge that the Fenton parents were, but apparently they had all missed the fact that Danny Fenton was just as crazy as them.
They both jumped when a mechanical hand popped out from a panel in the ceiling and the voice of their ghostly driver echoed through the speakers. “That's science, baby!”
Fenton gave the mechanical hand a high five and chuckled. “Well I didn’t write it down, but I did learn something, so it probably still counts.”
Manson laughed. “Hypothesis, everyone likes explosions before bed. Conclusion, hypothesis incorrect.”
The nerds (and Technus) laughed while the rest of the bus stared at them. Dash didn’t know whether to be terrified of them or just glad that they were still nerds. Then Fenton made eye contact with him and grinned. Definitely terrified of them.
“Well, in the meantime, we have reached our first stop!” Technus said, as the bus made a bumpy landing.
Fenton frowned. “Wait what? Why are we stopping? I thought we were headed to the Far Frozen?”
“That’s the destination, but, since your parent’s shut down the portal, things in the Zone have been shifting around even more than they usually do. So we will have to go from stop to stop and get directions as we travel,” the ghost replied.
“So where have we stopped now?” Valerie asked.
“Jonny and Kitty’s place!”
Fenton looked out the window. “Oh yeah I recognize it! There’s their track.”
“Go see if they know where Dora’s castle is right now. That should be in the right direction.”
“Yeah alright, I’ll go ask,” Fenton said.
The rest of the class pressed their faces to the windows and watched as he walked out of the bus and over to the dirt track. He held his hands to his mouth and yelled.
“Kitty! Johnny! You here?”
There was a moment of silence, and it seemed like there wasn’t gonna be a reply. Then there was the sound of a revving motorcycle. It appeared from behind one of the embankments, with two people riding it. They rode towards Fenton, not slowing down as they got closer and closer.
Fenton just stood there, not even moving as they barreled straight towards him. Dash glanced over at the nerds to see their reaction, only to see them all looking entirely uninterested. Foley wasn’t even watching, messing with his PDA instead. Dash looked back out the window as his other classmates gasped. Just as they thought that Fenton was gonna get turned into a pavement smear the bikers slid into a skid, kcking up enough dust to temporarily block Fenton and the bike from view.
Dash and his classmates watched as the dust cleared, wondering if Fenton had just gotten run over, but when the dust cleared Fenton hadn’t moved an inch. The bike on the other hand, had stopped barely an inch in front of him.
The couple on the bike and Fenton stared each other down.
“Boo! 3/10 try harder next time.”
Dash flinched at the loud voice next to him. He turned to see Manson giving a thumbs down and heckling the ghosts outside. The guy rolled his eyes and the girl in the red jacket blew a sarcastic kiss towards her. Manson laughed and her friends rolled their eyes. The rest of the class was just staring at her, baffled.
With Manson seeming to have broken the staring contest, Fenton and the two ghosts relaxed and started talking, but whatever they were saying was too quiet for Dash to hear. They seemed to argue for a bit, before Fenton shrugged and randomly tackled the guy off his motorcycle.
The class watched in shock as they tussled in the dirt. The other ghost hopped off the motorcycle and went to join them, but Valerie cackled and jumped out the window of the bus. Lancer tried to reach out and grab her but Manson and Tucker blocked him. Not that it mattered, she was already out the window by the time he’d moved.
“Not on my watch Kitty!” Valerie yelled as she tackled the second ghost from behind.
Manson and Foley cheered as the four wrestled in the dirt.
Fenton managed to pin the ghost he was fighting quickly and he tapped out. The two then sat and watched as the others wrestled. It wasn’t long before Valerie also managed a pin, and they all helped each other up. They brushed their clothes off and shook hands, speaking for a moment more before Valerie and Fenton walked back to the bus.
“Okay, Johnny said that Dora’s is about 10° up with a 30° azimuth.” Danny said as he and Valerie climbed back into the bus.
“Alright!” Technus yelled. “Next stop, Dora's Castle!”
Dash fell back into his seat as the bus jumped and they were once again flying through the ghost zone.
For a long moment all the students just sat there, but eventually Paulina broke the silence with the question everyone was wondering. “What was that?” she screeched.
Fenton just looked at her in confusion. “What was what?”
“What do you mean ‘what was what?’ The fighting and stuff! You went from a perfectly civil conversation to fighting in the dirt! Valerie jumped out the window!”
“Oh that! Well Johnny said he wouldn’t tell me unless I fought him. So I did.”
Paulina spluttered at his relaxed statement before turning to their other classmate.
Their classmate who had literally jumped out a window less than ten seconds ago just shrugged. “I wasn’t about to turn down a fight.” Valerie said.
“Why?” Paulina cried.
Valerie just shrugged again. “It’s fun.”
Dash... had no idea how to respond to that. Apparently, neither did Paulina, because she just slumped into her chair.
Dash had no idea how to react to everything he was learning about Fenton and his friends today.

What's the most evil lab equipment in your opinion 😂
In my very subjective opinion? Ion chromatographs are on my shit list. It's not really their fault - the one I have to work with is old, hasn't been maintained properly, and no one else knows how to use it so I have to figure out everything myself, which is NOT FUN! It's finicky, frustrating, and it requires working with sulfuric acid, which I do not enjoy. It's very very sensitive and if you accidentally contaminate it with ions, you will be troubleshooting for weeks trying to figure out what happened. Ions are everywhere, in everything. In dust, in tap water (and nearly all filtered water, we have a special machine that makes Ultra Pure water with no ions or anything in it), on your skin, on virtually every surface that hasn't been specially cleaned. So if you have extra ions that shouldn't be there, it's a guessing game - are they from the sample? The eluent? Sample vials? Glassware? Is the water filter malfunctioning? Are the ions even there at all or is the detector messed up? You just have to keep trying stuff until it sorts itself out. The one I work with has NOT sorted itself out yet and I've been at this for over two weeks. I'm at my wit's end here.
And bonus answer for non-instrument equipment: drying tins. They're these little aluminum trays to put soil or whatever in when you stick them in the drying oven but they make Bad Noises when they scrape together. Also they bend easily, so if you stack them and then they get knocked around, sometimes it becomes very very difficult to get them apart.
In contrast, the best instrument is the Gas Chromatograph and the best other equipment is micropippettes. The GC is straightforward, easy to use, really hard to contaminate, and rarely has technical problems (plus when it does, they're not my problem - I am not the designated GC expert). Micropippettes are just fun because it's satisfying to click the button to release the pipette tip and launch it into the trash can.

Chapter 3: They see me rollin'
Hello and welcome back to the Bakeology Lab! This week we are here to talk about all things Christmas!! Before I make it super obvious, Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love spending quality time with my family and during Christmas time we do just that. We decorate the Christmas tree, cook, bake and listen to Christmas music. Everything about it just brings me so much joy and gives me a feeling of nostalgia. Although I love everything about Christmas, the best and most anticipated part in my family is the exchanging of Christmas gifts. One of my love languages are gift giving so it only makes sense for me to get a gift for every single one of my friends and family. Every year, we have a tradition where all of my aunts, uncles and cousins come over to exchange gifts. It's the only time of year where everyone is together at the same place at the same time. It just warms my heart when all of my family members are together enjoying each other's company. Although the gifts I receive on Christmas are great and it may be expensive, the thing that I am most grateful for on that day is my family. A lot of people are not able to spend that special day with their loved ones which makes me sad but also super grateful that I have the luxury of doing so. Another thing my family loves to do is eat. So every Christmas, without fail, my aunt bakes bread, ham and various cakes and desserts. My favorite Christmas dessert of them all has to be cinnamon rolls. If I had to associate Christmas with a smell, it would definitely be cinnamon. When you make cinnamon rolls your entire house smells like Christmas and who doesn't want that? So, with that being said, after a lot of convincing, I have permission to share with you my aunt's cinnamon roll recipe this week!!! It's soft, sweet and I hope you love them as much as I do :)
Cinnamon roll recipe (10 rolls)
Ingredients
3 cups flour
2 eggs
3 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp yeast
1/2 cup warm milk
3 1/2 tbsp butter
2 1/2 tbsp water
Filling
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Icing
1 cup icing sugar/powdered sugar
2 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Preparation
Add yeast to warm milk and set aside for 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar and salt. Add in your yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix. Whisk in your eggs one at a time then add in your water. Lastly, add in your softened butter and knead with your hands until it forms a soft dough. Place your dough into a greased bowl and cover to let it rise for 2 hours. While your dough is rising mix together your sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Roll out your dough into a rectangular shape and brush on melted butter. Sprinkle your cinnamon sugar mixture evenly then roll it into a long roll. Cut it into 10 equal pieces and place the rolls into a buttered baking dish. Cover for 10 minutes.
Tumblr media
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. When your rolls are out of the oven, mix your icing. Evenly spread it on top of your rolls. Serve while still warm.
*you can always reheat your rolls in the microwave

Every year my aunt goes all out by making advent calendars by hand, so that we can count down the days until Christmas🎄🎁✨

how safe are weed vapes compared to like regular vapes? I've recently heard vapes are like horrible for you cus you're just smoking a shit ton of chemicals but does that depends on what's being smoked?....since you said the weed is just being heated up is there less chemical intake overall or just less combustion byproduct like you said before (sorry if this makes like no sense I'm not familiar with this stuff at all or how it works lol but I also had a really bad experience with edibles and have bad lungs so I just wanted to know a bit more)
Hey sorry for responding so late I had gotten most of this post done after you first sent it but I ran out of energy and got too perfectionistic. Anyways here it is:
Excellent question! The first formal modern e-liquid vape was only released in 2003, though various attempts had been made earlier, which means we are still researching the long-term effects they have on health. When the average person says "vape", they almost exclusively mean "e-liquid vape".
Currently, what we can see about e-liquid vapes: They're not very good. They do reduce some smoking risks (no tar) but introduce other risks, and have a reputation of being safer and a potential smoking cessation aid while a reality of unregulated and poorly sourced ingredients which can cause acute and lasting lung damage.
Dry herb vaping, which is what I recommend, is much more straightforward, but only recently popularized and thus still needing more research.
At the risk of being a square: Any time you intentionally inhale something other than air, you're introducing more risk than if you simply never smoked or vaped anything. But like don't let that stop you, we take on risk all the time, that's what harm reduction's all about babey
Dry Vapes are Not Vapes
A vape or e-cigarette is a device that heats and vaporizes a liquid carrier with a suspension of the psychoactive chemical, either nicotine or THC. These are what people think of when they think of vapes, and these are generally the most problematic for having untested and unregulated chemicals while being touted as healthier.
A dry vape/dry herb vaporizer is the method I recommend, which heats the plant material (or concentrate like wax--I haven't done this myself personally) and evaporates the cannabinoids and terpenes without combustion. It's basically like baking your weed in a tiny oven.
This method was popularized most recently in 1993 with Eagle Bill's Shake and Vape, though apparently the principle of boiling vapor has existed since ancient times.
General Smoking Health Risks
Tobacco and weed both produce "tar" when burned--a catch-all for a variety of chemicals, many of which are carcinogenic, produced during combustion. The tar isn't made from the THC or the nicotine, but from the plant matter itself and its additives. If you burn plant matter and inhale the smoke, you inhale a certain number of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals.
There is some conflict on if smoking weed causes cancer. It certainly doesn't carry the same correlation as tobacco, but the reasons are unknown. We don't have long-term studies verifying a connection between the two. Very preliminary lab tests suggest that THC and CBD have antitumor effects, but it'll be a while before we can figure out the deal. There is still risk!!!
Regardless, the deposition of tar in lungs is an irritant and increases risks of things like bronchitis. For someone with asthma or weak lungs, smoking of any kind causes problems.
E-Cigarettes, or e-liquid vapes
E-cigarettes were manufactured to counter tobacco cigs starting in 2003. An e-cig heats a liquid with a suspension of nicotine, atomizing it into droplets of vapor that are then inhaled.
The liquid is usually propylene glycol or glycerol with other additives like flavorants. It seems like propylene glycol and glycerol have been safe for ingestion as a food additive, but being atomized in an inhaled form is pretty new and the effects aren't well-known.
The major issue is that we don't have a standardized and proven-effective vape juice formula. E-liquid is poorly regulated and many samples contain entirely unidentified substances.
This is the major cause for concern.
THC vape liquids have similar issues, including being cut with Vitamin E acetate, which was correlated with a string of vaping-related lung disease, though not fully confirmed to be the culprit.
Hopefully this delineates why vaping, as in e-liquid vaping, is problematic, and why dry vape is comparatively safer.
Why dry herb vape?
The boiling of the material introduces fewer (but not 0) unknown or undesired chemicals into the airstream. You're primarily getting the cannabinoids.
On a user experience level: It's quite weed-efficient, the weed tastes better w/o the smoke, it produces less smell, the vapor is less harsh on the lungs (you can and will still cough if you inhale too much tho), not much less portable than a joint
You can get a bong adapter and get megahigh still (I do have a bong but I don't like getting that fucked up)
Some vapes can heat concentrates, wax, etc. for potent highs (I haven't done this. But you can. Research yourself)
The already vaped bud (AVB) can be saved and reused for edibles, extracts, and concentrates; it's gonna be stripped of a lot of the psychoactives already, but not all of them--obvs be mindful of dosing here
Downsides: You do have to recharge battery vapes and get over the learning curve of batteryless (I'm pretty shit at using mine). You also have to clean your equipment every once in a while which is nbd for me who likes cleaning but yknow it does require upkeep. Easier than cleaning a bong tho
So, could you dry vape tobacco?
You can, but you probably shouldn't. Nicotine itself is highly physically and psychologically addictive and classified as toxic, and while it isn't considered carcinogenic, it is potentially a tumor promoter.
Pretty much everyone I know who's on nic tells me they don't like it, they wish they could quit, and they would never want me or anyone else to start.
Last, some Dry Herb Vaporizer Tips
Controlling the temperature allows you to control which cannabinoids are released to a certain extent.
Hot vapor can still irritate your lungs. Keeping a relatively low temperature (Guides indicate the best range) and having a long enough vapor path that the vapor can cool will help you have a smoother inhale.
Do not use a vaporizer with cheap elements. Plastic near the heating element will cause by-products.
Contaminants and pesticides can be inhaled, source your material appropriately
Overheating can still cause combustion. You will smell, taste, and see smoke if this happens.
All the physical and psychological risks of weed are present--Take it easy, know your limits, don't vape or smoke when you're in an unstable state, etc.
Thanks for reading, I hope this helps you make informed decisions and potentially find a way of intaking weed that suits your needs :) If you have any more Qs I'll try to answer (IN FEWER WORDS)

NINE-TENTHS
Part Six
I get all of the gear flicked on, checking water levels and pulling the wands out of the sanitizer, then grind the first pot for the perc. As the espresso machine chugs its way to wakefulness, I peer into garbage cans and inspect tables. The till is all counted out neatly, with a post-it note reminding me to buy a roll of quarters stuck to the crisp purple stack of tens.
Obviously Min-soo closed last night, ‘cause she always kills it.
In the dark kitchen, I crank the industrial oven up as high as it will go to pre-warm, scoop dough from the huge bowl Min-soo made last night onto trays, and climb the ladder to dump a burlap sack of fresh beans into the massive stainless steel bean roaster in pride of place in the corner of the kitchen.
In my back pocket, my phone starts playing a punk version of You're the Cream in My Coffee. Shit. That's my alarm to start the second batch of scones. Dammit. I don't have time to let the oven preheat properly. I shove the tray in.
Then it’s back out to the front, where he is sitting primly in his corner, eyes on his newspaper.
Yeah, I'm a basic bitch and prefer coffee that's more sugar and froth than bean juice, but there’s something so good about fresh-brewed black coffee first thing in the morning. That's art in its own right, my loves. I interrupt the drip machine to pour myself a mug, and I take one selfish minute to revel in a perfect sip.
But what is usually a soft symphony of my mornings is instead a self-inflicted agony. The plink of coffee into the carafe, the hiss of the espresso machine, the hum and clunk of the bean-roster in action, all punctuated by the crisp rustle of his newspaper? Agony.
A year ago, I would use this quiet time to work on my thesis. Before that, it would have been an essay, or a lab, or something else I’d procrastinated. Now, I have nothing to work on. Nothing to do but this. Nowhere to go but here. No career, no demand, no drive, just…
Me.
And him.
And the stretching, hissing, clunking, dripping silence.
"Ugh, get your ass in gear, you embarrassment," I mutter to myself.
"Beg pardon?" he asks, voice raised politely.
Shit.
"I said, uh, the espresso machine is warmed up. Caffe tobio?"
"Please." He crosses his legs. There's a flash of turquoise at his ankle. I only catch it for a second, but it looks like he's wearing socks with cartoon dragons on them. Huh, okay… that’s more playful than I expected him to be.
"Coming right up."
"I appreciate it. And you are well?" he says, which is the longest string of words I've ever heard out of him. Shame.
"Yeah." I turn to the machine, tapping out a careful twenty-seven seconds with the toe of my chucks, timing as the espresso fills the demitasse. So I'm completely in my head, and totally not expecting it when his voice comes from somewhere much too close, just over my left shoulder.
"Oversleeping could be the sympto—"
"Gah!" I shout, and Christ no, the wand in my hand goes flying up, up, sprinkling boiling-hot grounds like freaking pixie dust.
He ducks and snaps the newspaper over his head as they rain down. The sharp clatter of the wand hitting the tile makes us both wince. We stare across the counter at one another, eyes wide, with what I assume are matching shocked expressions.
"Are you—" he starts again and I hold out a hand to stop him.
"I'm fine."
"I've never known you to—"
"Shit, you're chatty today," Maybe that came out cattier than it should have. He flinches, stung. A glob of espresso grounds plops off his shoulder and splats on the tile floor. "Sorry, sorry! That came out wrong. I'm not… I'm not having a good morning."
"My apologies," he murmurs mournfully, and aw, no.
"I'll make you another one," I say quickly. "On the house. Just… sit, and I'll—"
"Perhaps I should go." He lowers his paper and flicks grounds off the toe of his shoe. Oh, shit, are they expensive? Am I going to have to pay for, I dunno, shoe dry cleaning?
"No, please." That lurch in my stomach again, and it's only because a morning that has started terribly (and has only gotten worse) would really become awful if he wasn’t sitting in the sunlight, glimmering and reading.
It would be just wrong.
"If you are ill, you ought to be taking care of yourself first. Don't you have a colleague who could cover—"
"I got a new alarm clock, I didn't wake up, it’s fine, it doesn’t matter."
"It does to me." He crunches the ruined paper in his hands, flexing and twisting. "In fact, I, er, perhaps it is time I confessed that… I smell something burning."
"You smell burning?" I swig another mouthful of coffee from the mug I'd left by the till, and take a deep breath to calm myself. Wait. "I smell it, too."
His eyes flick to the door behind me, slit pupils dilating. "The kitchen."
"The scones!" I squawk and spin on the spot. I slip in spilled espresso, toppling sideways. Before I can hit the ground, he lunges across the countertop, catching my arm in a grip that's stronger than I think he realizes. It also prickles.
Trying to get my stupid feet under me, I catch the barest flash of red scale and black, long-tipped nails. Then his hand is back to perfectly pale peach, fussily manicured, and human.
I shrug him off and push through the door. I shouldn't have gasped, that was a stupid thing to do when the air is heavy with smoke. But I do, and jerk to a stop, folding double, coughing. He runs into me. I nearly topple. That prickling grip pulls me upright again.
"What can I do to—" he starts, but the fire alarm cuts him off.
"I forgot to turn down the goddamn oven!"
"I'll get it." He reaches out with his free hand. It's covered in deep red scales, his fingertips ending in delicately curved claws.
Holy crap.
He's dexterous, able to work the knob, then swing down the oven door. Black smoke, oily with burning fats, cascades into our faces. I cover my mouth and nose with the edge of my Henley, eyes burning.
"Oven mitts!" I warn.
"Not necessary!" He's got the tray balanced in his claws. "Where should I—?"
And that's when the fire suppression system kicks in.
It lets out a sharp, high whistle that startles him so badly the claws of the hand holding my arm spasm. They go right through my shirt and into flesh.
I holler.
Five things happen at once.
First, he drops the tray of scones. It clatters off the tile, sending burnt pucks of dough into the air. One smacks into my leg, and two pelt him as we dance away.
Second, he yanks his claws out of my arm, blood on the tips, and freaking hell, it stings.
Third, white foam pours from the pipes that ring the kitchen ceiling, coating every surface in a bitter-tasting cloud. Including us.
Fourth, the guy makes a sort of gurgling belch noise, then a sharp bony click accompanied by a spark that looks exactly like the kind you get from a lighter.
Fifth, he spits fire.
Right into the corner. Where the giant custom bean roaster is. The drum is perforated, and the beans inside it immediately go up in flames. They're so hot they burn blue. The steel drum starts to goddamn melt.
"Coc y gath," he gasps in horror, dithering on the spot.
"Holy shit," I say, clamping my hand down over the punctures in my arm.
"I'm terribly sorry!" he shouts over the sound of the alarm and the hiss of the foam deflating around us. "I didn't mean to—I was startled!"
The urgency of the situation suddenly hits home, fire crawling up the wall toward the ceiling, and I scream: "Put it out!"
"What do you want me to do? Suck it back up?" he shouts back, all his cool calm evaporating in the heat of the inferno. "I'm a dragon, not a fire extinguisher!"
Well.
Fuck this meet-cute straight to hell, then.

if you discovered a new kind of vegetable like one that had never been discovered before science has NEVER seen anything like this vegetable.... what would you do with the vegetable...
well first how many samples do we have? first thing i'd do is plant the vegetable in the best most comfortable and rich soil ever to make sure it grows again and give it moderate amounts of water and sun to ensure it grows some more so i can harvest more of this vegetable.
then i do a poison test! i taste the leaves and the vegetable, touch them and rub a tiny amount on my lips to check if i have any negative side effects. i check for bitter or awful tastes. i wait for 15 minutes, then proceed with another taste with a small bit of the plant, and wait another few hours. i keep testing until i realize that there are no poisonous substances.
i still prepare one sample to send to a lab, but for now i want to do my discoveries on my own. :3
in the meantime, i'll try to note down everything i can about the vegetable. i'll doodle it, get its general shape, write my impressions, my thoughts on it while observing it. then i'll start doing a general more detail illustration of the plant's anatomy from the outside and in cross sections, noting down each region and how they smell, what they feel like, amounts of water, etc etc...
i lack the biological knowledge or vernacular to correctly note down each part of the plant's anatomy so i'll just keep the plant illustration intact and as detailed as i can. then i take a bunch of really detailed pictures and videos of the plant and vegetable from all sides, and watch how it grows.
after that i wanna try a litmus test and check the ph level of the plant... i'd probably get a litmus paper or smth.
now that i've done enough researches on the vegetables, it's time to cook it if it's not poisonous :3
first, after cleaning it thoroughly in water, i'll try tasting it raw no cuts, and see how it pairs with salt and then sugar, separately. after this, i'll dice it and tr to sauté it and taste it as is. based on how it tastes, i'll see if i'd rather pair it with a spicy sauce or a milder sauce. if it's a tiny bit bitter or chewy then i'll go for spicy, but if it has a more earthy flavor then i'll add more spices.
i'll also try to eat it in a soup, and also just cooked raw in the oven. i wanna see the panel of different tastes this plant can offer me. can i also make a tea out of it? out of its leaves and whatnot? i'll get the residual bits of the vegetable i cut off, put them all in the oven and cook them until they are fully dry, then pummel them into a fine powder to make either seasoning spices out of this vegetable, or powder for tea.
of course, i'll be documenting all of my researches on video because this is priceless data and i control all of it hehe.
after this, if i still have enough vegetables to both send to a laboratory, and to make more dishes out of, i'll make a few dishes that i deem are perfect for this vegetable, and serve them to me myself and i because if it's somehow still poisonous or smth im not giving it to my family... though i doubt it because i would have already died by now.
anyways. i take all of the document material i have, put them all together in a 30mn long video documentary. after which, i send a snippet to a lab and tell them i am renting the video for approximately [I Have Bills to Pay]$ dollars. and if they're interested, i can send them my thoroughly documented video and a sample of the plant for more money, because i have bills to pay and also put a lot of effort in this. of course i am all for sharing information publicly.
except not now because i am in dire need of some money. sorry for being a capitalist.... but i would have probably already posted and sent some bits and pieces of my researches either on here or to various friends. not on twitter. i hate twitter. not on insta either. just here or on discord or whatever.
i'd also listen to a bunch of advice from people as well, just in case.
i think that's about everything i would do if i ever discovered a new vegetable. :3c

adding on to this:
crushing your pills and pouring it in a drink is okay. you don't have to swallow them whole. If crushing them takes too much energy, using a blender or a asking for a capsule (and just pouring it out) are options.
if walking is difficult, don't feel bad about using a wheel chair either. you don't have to be "disabled enough" to use them.
same goes for AAC boards. If you have unorganized/disordered thought, you're having a meltdown/overstimulated, situationally mute, etc you can use an AAC board. you aren't "stealing a resource," you're using a resource you need.
if drinking water is difficult for you to keep up with, pack a cup a jello with your lunch. it helps keep you hydrated.
in a colder climate, you only need to shower 2-3 times a week to keep your skin healthy. in a warmer climate, every other day works. if your energy crashes, don't worry about not being able to shower.
dry body wash exists, along with dry shampoo, both go a long way.
the thumb is the least painful for blood tests. the skin is also thicker on your dominant hand. you're allowed to request for a doctor to use a different finger for in-clinic tests.
pop pre-cut vegetables with oil into a mini-oven/microwave for a quick and easy meal. add seasoning of your choice.
it's okay to apply numbing cream to your good vein before getting blood drawn. some labs/clinics even offer it as an in-office option.
you don't have to sleep laying down. investing in a neck pillow might do you good though.
most text-to-speak tools automatically scroll for you.
compression socks/gloves/sleeves go a long way.
red-ish flashlights/lamps are less disruptive to your vision than white lights. perfect for light sensitivity and when you keep the lights off.
it's perfectly reasonable to cling unto the stair railing for your dear life. i do it all the time.
collection of useful things tumblr has taught me:
even if you can't fall asleep, laying down with your eyes closed will still rest your body
you don't have to brush your teeth standing up
you don't have to do any chore standing up, from dishes to showering
you don't have to shower with the lights on
if you can't brush your teeth, flossing and a tongue scraper gets rid of plaque and bad breath
if you can't do that, mouthwash kills a lot of bacteria
eating "unhealthy" food is better than eating no food
you can make the same meal everyday for however long you still want it
some pills come in syrups or chewables if you can't swallow them
kids nutritional shakes can be a quick way to get fuel if you can't eat/don't have time
if walking hurts/exhausts you on a regular basis, canes and rollers are for you, no matter how young you are
we have free will—if doing something "out of the ordinary" makes life easier for you, do it
if you have even a dollar to spare, please consider donating to Alaikum's family.
they're a large family at only 10% of their goal to evacuate, and could use any help you can give!!

Benefits and Uses of Convection oven
Tumblr media
In a laboratory setting, convection ovens serve essential functions in various scientific processes, providing controlled heat treatment for precise, consistent results. Here are the main benefits and uses of laboratory convection ovens:
Benefits of a Convection Oven in Labs
Uniform Heat Distribution:
The built-in fan circulates hot air evenly, ensuring consistent temperatures throughout the chamber, which is critical for applications requiring precise, uniform heating.
Reduced Drying Time:
Convection ovens allow for faster drying times by moving heated air across samples. This benefit makes them efficient for drying, curing, and dehydration processes in labs.
Temperature Stability and Control:
Laboratory convection ovens are designed with precise temperature controls, allowing for stable, consistent heating. This is essential for repeatable results and minimizes errors in sensitive applications.
Energy Efficiency:
By reaching and maintaining desired temperatures quickly and consistently, convection ovens in labs are more energy-efficient than conventional ovens, saving time and resources.
Enhanced Safety Features:
Many lab-grade convection ovens include safety features such as over-temperature alarms, automatic shut-off, and heat-resistant doors, which help reduce the risk of accidents in laboratory environments.
Uses of Convection Ovens in Labs
Drying and Dehydration:
Convection ovens are widely used to dry samples, glassware, or equipment by evaporating moisture quickly and evenly, essential in preparing samples for weighing or further analysis.
Curing and Polymerization:
In material science and chemistry labs, convection ovens are used to cure polymers, adhesives, and coatings, which requires precise, consistent heat to achieve optimal material properties.
Baking and Aging:
Convection ovens help simulate aging by exposing materials to specific temperatures over time, useful in testing the durability and longevity of products such as rubber, plastics, and coatings.
Sterilization:
Used to sterilize non-flammable equipment, tools, and glassware by heating to temperatures that destroy microorganisms. Convection ovens are an alternative to autoclaves for items sensitive to moisture.
Annealing and Heat Treatment:
Metals, ceramics, and alloys undergo annealing in convection ovens to relieve internal stress, enhance ductility, and alter mechanical properties, crucial for applications in metallurgy and materials research.
Evaporation of Solvents:
Labs use convection ovens to evaporate solvents safely from chemical mixtures. This is especially beneficial in preparing samples for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Moisture Content Analysis:
Convection ovens are commonly used to measure moisture content in various materials. Samples are dried at controlled temperatures to constant weight, allowing accurate measurement of residual moisture.
Sample Pre-Treatment:
In analytical labs, convection ovens pre-treat samples by removing moisture, and stabilizing them for testing in procedures like chromatography, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis.
When Not to Use Convection Ovens in Labs
Convection ovens may not be suitable for highly volatile materials or samples sensitive to oxidation due to the circulating air, which can encourage reactions. In such cases, vacuum ovens or inert gas purged systems are preferable.
In summary, laboratory convection ovens provide reliable, even heat for drying, curing, sterilizing, and other applications that require precise temperature control, making them indispensable for research, quality control, and analytical laboratories.
