SONIC PICT November 2020 – Indian Summer at the Sol Empire

It is an Indian summer with gentle waves. Blaze is busy with her official duties at the castle in the Sol Imperial Palace. Peace continues to reign in the empire, but Blaze’s heavy responsibilities as an imperial princess have not disappeared. The warm tea brewed by the personal guard is a moment of relaxation for her. ★ Thank you for your hard work!

Blaze is the princess of the “Sol Empire,” a world different from that of Sonic and his friends. She fought for the world in the past when it was in danger, but she usually performs her official duties as well. Since she is Blaze, she surely makes decisions and documents without mistakes, word for word and number for number. The peace of the Sol Empire is protected not only by repelling evil from the outside, but also by sincere administration from the inside. Thank you for your daily labor. Let us send our gratitude.

[Flaming glass pen] The nib is made of heat-resistant glass. It is said to be useful in various ways, such as drying ink that has been lit by a flame on the pen’s nib.

[Hanging back and letting stand] Personal guard Gardon is Blaze’s close aide. He is a bit of a loose cannon in the game, but we tried to show a side of him that works as a trusted and loyal retainer during official duties.

Blaze: But It's getting late!

Marine: He promised, ya silly girl!

Blaze: That's what he bloody said the last time and now look where we are! Come on, please call...

Silver: Hey, Blaze, what's up?

Blaze: *Hiss*

Silver: Huh?!

Marine: Princess?! Bad girl!

Blaze: Oh, S-Silver, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to...! I'm just...a little upset right now, I'll admit...

Silver: W-what's wrong?

Marine: Her dad, the king, is away on business but promised to call her later and...

Blaze: He never calls! Never! *Sniff*...I just want to hear his voice...

Silver: ...oh...I understand...

Blaze: *Sniff* Oh, Silver, d-*sniff*-don't worry about me...I'm just some spoiled brat...I don't deserve to complain...

Silver: I mean, sure, it's not the end of the world, but that doesn't mean you don't get to be upset, you miss your dad. Nothing wrong with that.

Blaze: *Sniff* Ah, yes, you're right. Ahem. Thank you, the both of you. I feel less lonely because I have you two to keep me compa-

*phone rings*

Silver: Is that...?

Marine: Bugger me...!

Blaze: It's him!!! *picks up phone* HI DADDY...! Uh, ahem, hmm, uh, hmm, excuse me...hello, father, how are your travels...? Yes...yes...yes, I'm fine, I've been keeping myself busy, thank you for asking but how are you...yes...yes...really? That's incredible, I can't wait...! Okay, goodbye....I love you...yes...you have a good night as well...*hangs up*

Silver: Blaze...

Marine: Well?!

Blaze: *Sniff* *tears up*...he's coming home next week...

Marine: Ah! That's great!!

Silver: Congrats, Blaze...

Blaze: Silver...I want you to meet him...

Silver: A-are you sure? I figured you would want some father-daughter time?

Blaze: And what better way to do that than for the daughter to introduce her father to all of her great friends!

I have a theory about Blaze and Eggman Nega’s origins!

I think the Ilfrit dimension is Blaze’s dimension in the future. She ended up in the Sol dimension after 06’s ending, but as a child with no memories.

Since she appeared in the Sol Emeralds shrine, the current ruler felt it was destined for Blaze to be the new heir since the ruler had no children of their own, and was very old.

They raised her to be the next Guardian and Empress over Sol. But not everyone in the kingdom respected this decision. Some viewed Blaze as unfit due to her inability to control her powers (thanks in part to Iblis intensifying her flames), and so they mocked her.

Then Eggman Nega showed up. Blaze managed to stop him, but not before he killed the old ruler. People started respecting her after this, and many pitied her for having to assume her role so soon. But the damage was done.

She took everything on herself, bc it made things easier. Thats what she told herself at least.

Eggman Nega originally came from the future, but when Silver ditched him in the Ilfrit dimension, he had an idea. Travel to the time before the Ilfrit releases and use its power to cause chaos. And so he cobbles together a time machine and goes back to Blaze’s time. He figures out quickly that Blaze is the source of the Ilfrit.

Why is this the case? Well, Iblis evolves while caged within Blaze, and becomes sentient.

After all, if Mephiles can copy powers From Shadow, who says that Iblis can’t copy a mind from Blaze?

This is why Nega picks on Blaze so much: so Ilfrit can get released. He COULD kill Blaze, but that wouldn’t be fun. He wants her alive to witness the destruction she unwittingly caused.

Oh, also Iblis tortures her with visions in a similar way to Elise. Thanks to his newfound sentience, he’s able to taunt her, taking the form of her shadow. She thinks they come from her fears of losing control.

There are a few holes in this, but I think that this or something similar was part of the canceled “Sonic: Awakening” story. Especially since it had enough Silver voicelines to be put on a resume.

Snacks Flavor Texts

When you're as busy as us, it's hard to find time to sit down and have a proper meal sometimes. But that doesn't mean you should skimp on eating! You have to keep fuel in your system for optimal output. Here's a collection of snacks and easy things to eat while you're on the move or under the wire!

Sonic's Big Ring Party Platter:

Sonic: I've got two constants in my life: jumping into Big Rings and shoving chili dogs in my face. It only makes sense to combine the two, right? Best of all, it's something I can share with all my friends! And if they're tired of chili dogs? More for me! Heh heh!

Omochao: Please do not try to jump into the platter! It will not warp you to a Chaos Emerald! It will only make a mess!

Tails's Eat Red Spheres:

I spend a lot of time either in the lab or in the garage, and I don't want to get food all over my projects. That's why I'll make a big bowl of these to snack on! They're tasty and energizing, and the wet/dry vac takes care of them if one of my tails knocks over the bowl. Not that… it's a common problem… *ahem.*

Tails's Tornado Chips:

While I'm waiting for my coding to compile, I like to chill out with something tasty and with a satisfying crunch. Lotus chips are great for satisfying that snacking urge while being healthier than many alternatives. And if you spin them, they almost look like my tails in flight!

Blaze's Royal Roasted Pinwheels

There was once a gala event in the imperial palace where all the ovens failed. I stepped in and offered to assist the chefs by using my flames. Normally that is taboo, but I live to serve my people. The staff was very thankful, too. Since then, I once in a while return to the kitchen to help. I am… not the best at cooking, but my control over flames allows me to prepare everything in record time and achieve the perfect char!

Blaze's Daily Respite

Being the imperial princess means a great deal of executive oversight! My days can be filled with seemingly endless decrees, declarations, and other documentation. A plate of these allows me to power through my duties and not feel famished by the end of the day.

Shadow's Burrito Blasts:

Rouge: I remember the last time you made these! The perfect warm meal while on the go. Shadow: I didn't make them for you.

Rouge's Luxurious Light Flare:

I'm a woman of expensive tastes, so when I dine I want everything to taste expensive. This treat is succulent and decadent, but light enough to leave room for more.

Eggman's Poppin' Eggcorn:

Ah! This was the signature treat at Eggmanland…until Sonic ruined everything. Regardless, I'll prepare a big batch to snack on when reviewing my files or relaxing after a long, hard day of global conquest.

After not touching the game for like three years, I suddenly got inspired to recreate Joe's house in the Sims 4. It's not perfect but it's as close as I could get with what I have available to me.

And it was gonna be just a fun little thing but then I just kept having thoughts and Joe's house suddenly became fascinating to me.

There's something almost gothic about what this house has become to Ming and even Sol, although to a lesser extent. It reminds me of Manderley in Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca in that it's almost a character in itself.

Ming has been cooking for himself and for Joe in it for two years but it's so much more than that. When Joe broke in during the last episode, he was able to navigate it just the same as always because every little thing is in the exact same place, just the way he left it. Ming hasn't moved or touched anything and I suspect the mere notion of doing that would be unthinkable to him.

He uses the bowls Joe bought for them. Their matching pillowcases are still on the bed. Even the key is in the same place because what if Joe comes back?

Hell, Ming--who looks about as far from a plant person as it's possible to be--has kept all of Joe's plants alive and thriving for two years. And there are a lot of fucking plants! I know! I placed them in my recreation!

For Sol's part, the thought of someone breaking in is absolutely appalling to him, never mind that he's doing the same damn thing himself. His word choice is so telling when he happens upon who he thinks is a random thief.

"How dare you break into this house? Do you know whose house this is?"

Of course a random ass thief wouldn't know or care! But Sol says it because he cares, because it's so much more than just a house to him. It's Joe's house. It's the place filled with Joe's things, art Joe picked, the floor where Joe walked, the bed Joe slept in, and how dare anyone break in to this sacred place?

Which I strongly suspect is exactly how Ming is going to feel when he finds out Sol let himself in next week. Because the house is all the same things to Ming that it is to Sol, with an added giant layer of it being the house he shared with Joe, where they loved each other and were happy until his bullshit sent everything to hell in a hand basket.

Joe's house is a cathedral and a mausoleum and a shrine and it's all of Ming's hope and all of Sol's regret and it's FASCINATING.

Blaze: ...*sigh*...mother and father had to "cancel" dinner again, something to do with some dignitary from...oh, like it bloody matters...I only wanted to spend some time with them after they've been away for month...that I was finally let back into the kitchen by the head chef and made a half way decent meal for all of us for once...that I want to tell them about my new friends...that's all, nothing special...dammit...*sniff*...gods dammit...

Luke Skywalker / Torbin Parallels

This one a long time have I watched.

All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon.

Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing.

Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

We thought we were doing the right thing.

In an absolutely excellent video titled All JEDI Are Secretly COPS! (The Acolyte) | READUS 101, YouTuber La'Ron Readus covers how the Jedi protagonists of The Acolyte not only behave badly by abusing their power as galactic peacekeepers, but are protected by their institution from facing the true consequences of their actions when things go wrong.

Namely, he argues that Master Indara ultimately decided to cover for the misdeeds of her Padawan, Torbin, when -- spurred by the desire to return home -- he recklessly charges into the witches' home, even when the Jedi Council ordered a stand-down.

Luke Skywalker didn't have a master or institution absolving him from the consequences of his mistakes. Luke had to learn a certain amount of moral fortitude that Torbin was denied for the sake of protecting the Jedi Order.

But even still, in the end both Luke and Torbin decided that exile was an appropriate self-inflicted punishment for all the pain they had caused: Luke retreated to a faraway planet, and Torbin retreated into his own mind.
