Remember the Sauron x OC fic I was obsessed with weeks ago?

That fic features Moyeldë, one of my Maiarin OCs who will also be featured in The Lady of Ithilien as one of the main antagonists. As Moyeldë means "slave-daughter" I thought it would be fitting to also give the character a pre-Morgoth name.

I've been thinking about it and I am proud to announce I finally came up with something I like. I find naming characters kind of hard, but I think Carassëa simply fits. It's a blend of caran (Sindarin for the color red) and alassëa (Quenya for 'happy' and 'joyous').

The main fancast for Carassëa/Moyeldë is Meryem Uzerli and her role as Hürrem Sultan in the show Muhteşem Yüzyıl (Magnificent Century). The name Hürrem means joyful in Turkish so you could say it's more or less a direct translation of the name. Hürrem's birth name was originally Alexandra and I thought it'd be a nice nod to her to have Carassëa change her name once she became a servant of Morgoth's and entered Mairon's "harem" in Angband- similarly to how Alexandra became Hürrem once she entered Sultan Suleiman's harem in the 1500s.

This is a little edit showing her Almaren era as a child, her First Age/pre-fall of Númenor era and her Fourth Age era.

I still have to come up with a satisfactory backstory for her, but I do have some ideas.

She's always had a massive crush on Mairon and was always around him. Eönwë had a soft spot for her (he has a massive soft spot for children) and whenever the two of them met, she was there as well. This is somewhat of an important detail since she'll be straight up murdering Eönwë and Elenna's children and Eönwë will execute her because of it. The Herald of Manwë used to love and dote on Carassëa so I think you can only imagine the shock and the pain he'll feel when she at last tells him who she really is. He'll be heartbroken and nearly stop the execution, but he'll be forced to kill her when she tries to do the same to him. Carassëa fell because of her obsession with Mairon. She was desperately in love with him and this led her to leave Almaren though she did not even particularly want to. She liked it there and loved Nessa, her former mistress. She had friends and was a dutiful, kind girl. She just valued Mairon above everything else and that was definitely a major mistake on her part. Blinded by love and obsession, she left everything behind her and followed him without even knowing what she was doing, becoming more and more ruthless. She created a new identity for herself and chose to forsake everything the Valar had taught her to be with the Maia she loved. She lied, tortured and killed for him. And he eventually abandoned her and left her to die. I plan to have her realize Mairon never cared about her just moments before she dies (just right after Eönwë finishes her. She'll have a moment of clarity and she'll probably beg for mercy before she drops dead. Mairon may be watching with a smirk on his face. Eönwë is basically doing him a favor at that point. He wouldn't mind killing her himself- that's not the point. I think he'll just be over her by then. He's completely uninterested in her eventually and cannot be bothered to off her because...she's been around for so long he's just done with her. So much for love, I suppose)

the carlos penalty in every way is absolutely unfair. a penalty should be allowed only when the DRIVER or the TEAM is in direct fault for the penalizing situation. i understand the politics of this game, but this is just brute unsportsmanlike conduct from all the teams who refuse to call out fia on their incompetent bullshit. the accident happened because of the track. neither the driver or the team could have foreseen this, and had it not been carlos, it would have been another driver or maybe all the other drivers in the grid who would have suffered the consequence of a track related mistake nobody could control apart from the parties in charge of the maintenance of the track. max literally said carlos couldn't feel his legs after what happened yesterday and the floor of the car was almost torn and broken off. he was lucky his seat didn't split into half like ocon's did.

Something pointed out in the comments section of 2 Minutes Notice is that Mammon was clapping along until the end, when Fizz calls him out by name, and I wonder if that’s a reflection of how modern corporations put on an act of caring about social justice while not doing anything substantial, and recoiling at any real change that could genuinely improve oppressed groups’ material conditions. Like, for example, rainbow capitalism and how corporations make money off of slapping rainbows on their logos and products while often simultaneously funding groups actively harming the LGBTQ community (not a perfect parallel since what’s being critiqued is more capitalism than anything, but similar).

It makes sense then that it doesn’t concern Mammon when Fizz talks about a terrible boss, because appealing to the audience’s frustrations and shared experiences is a good way to generate positive attention and therefore profit, but the moment Mammon is specifically called out, it goes from aimless rhetoric meant to appeal to emotions and put up a front of caring about the issues in hell (and irl, not gonna lie) to a specific callout, something that points a spearhead, something that could generate real progress and upheaval, and challenge and maybe even bring down the status quo that allows Mammon his wealth and power.

All this is to say, go hell! VIVE LA REVOLUTION!!!

(And please let the revolution go well, I’m still reeling from reading about the one in Heavenly Tyrant- such a good book, 10/10 recommend, but so visceral and painful and raw- still destroyed from it)
