Honestly, I didn't even think about that - Kuroo Tetsuro x f!reader
Summary: Kuroo decides to confess to his best friend's sister after years of keeping his emotions in.

Tumblr media
It was a typical Friday evening, and Kenma was in the middle of one of his popular live streams. His fans were used to the casual, laid-back atmosphere of his streams, where he played games, chatted about his day, and occasionally had his friends drop by.
Tonight, Kuroo was lounging on the couch behind Kenma, casually watching him play the latest game. Y/N, Kenma's sister, was there too, sitting next to Kuroo, quietly playing her own game on her Switch. The three of them often spent time together like this, comfortable in each other's company. Y/N had always been close with her brother and his friends, particularly Kuroo, with whom she had shared many late-night talks and heartfelt moments over the years.
To be honest, they were closer than close, they spent a lot of time together; often after work, both her and Kuroo would come over to hang out with Kenma during his streams.
As Kenma's stream went on, the chat buzzed with excitement, fans commenting on the game and sharing their usual banter. Suddenly, Kuroo's voice broke through the ambient sounds of the game and Kenma's occasional commentary.
"Hey, Kenma, pause the game for a second," Kuroo said, his tone unusually serious.
Kenma glanced back, slightly puzzled but complied, pausing the game and turning to face Kuroo. The chat quickly picked up on the change in mood, filling with question marks and curious comments.
Kuroo stood up, moving to stand in front of Y/N. She looked up from her game, confusion flickering in her eyes. Without warning, Kuroo bent down and pressed his lips to hers in a quick, yet tender kiss. The room seemed to freeze in that moment, the only sound being the rapid typing from the stream chat as viewers reacted in shock and excitement.
When Kuroo pulled back, his cheeks were flushed, but his eyes were filled with determination. "I've had a crush on you since high school," he confessed, his voice steady. "I can't keep running and hiding anymore. I needed to hear you reject me so I could finally move on."
Y/N was stunned, her eyes wide with surprise. She opened her mouth to speak but found herself at a loss for words. The chat exploded with messages, fans going wild over the unexpected confession.
Kuroo continued, taking a deep breath to steady himself. "Every time I saw you, it got harder to pretend I didn't feel anything. I thought if I could just hear you say you didn't feel the same, I could get over it. But… I can't keep it inside anymore."
The room was silent, save for the soft hum of the computer and the distant noise of the stream. Slowly, a gentle smile spread across Y/N's face. "Kuroo… I've always had a crush on you too," she admitted, her voice soft but clear. "I just thought you saw me as a sister."
Kuroo's eyes widened, a mixture of relief and joy washing over his features. "You mean it?" he asked, his voice almost a whisper.
She nodded, her smile growing. "Yeah, I do. I just never imagined you'd feel the same way."
Kenma, who had been silently watching the scene unfold, finally spoke up, his voice breaking the spell of the moment. "You know you're both still on stream, right?"
Kuroo and Y/N turned to look at him, their faces turning a deeper shade of red as they realized the entire confession had been broadcast live. The chat was going wild, viewers reacting to the unexpected romance with a flurry of emojis and excited messages.
Kuroo let out a nervous laugh, scratching the back of his head. "Well, I guess there's no hiding it now," he said, glancing back at Y/N. "But… I'm glad. I'm really glad."
Y/N laughed too, reaching out to take Kuroo's hand. "Me too," she said, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
Kenma sighed, shaking his head with a small smile. "I guess my stream just got a lot more interesting," he muttered, unpausing the game. "But seriously, you two… maybe save the dramatic confessions for off-camera next time."
Kuroo chuckled, turning back to Kenma. "Sorry about that, Kenma. But I think we both needed this."
Kenma nodded, a hint of relief in his eyes. "Honestly, I'm just relieved I don't have to keep your secret anymore. It was getting exhausting."
Kuroo and Y/N exchanged surprised glances before turning back to Kenma. "Wait, you knew?" Kuroo asked, his eyebrows shooting up.
Kenma smirked, his eyes never leaving the screen. "Of course I knew. You both did tell me separately, did you?"
Y/N blinked, processing the revelation. "And you didn't say anything? At least hint at it? I've been sulking over this for years" she asked, her voice a mix of incredulity and curiosity.
Kenma shrugged. "It wasn't my place to say anything. I figured you'd both figure it out eventually."
"Be ready for this to be all over the internet"
Kuroo and Y/N both just smiled at each other, their hands still clasped together. As Kenma returned to his game, the atmosphere in the room shifted, filled with a new sense of warmth and possibility. The stream chat continued to buzz with excitement, fans eagerly discussing the unexpected turn of events.
And as the night went on, Kuroo and Y/N sat close together, their hearts lighter and their futures a little brighter, no longer burdened by unspoken feelings and hidden desires.

Thinking about how Diavolo planted an entire fucking tree, in his fucking hidden childhood hangout spot (protected from anything and everything else in the forest that may try to get to it, mind you, so that is just about the most well-protected tree in the entire devildom--), and of course made sure it grows some of the most Quality apples in hell... Exclusively because he wanted to show Lucifer Devildom apples. What the fuck. That is the gayest thing I've ever heard. And then you find this all out specifically because he turns your little apple picking date with him into Fawning-Over-Lucifer hour, I--
He's pining so fucking hard, man. They're literally so fucking gay. The fact that these two motherfuckers basically canonically have the longest slowburn in fucking History is eating me alive orz

Best friend
Fandom: Haikyuu Pairing/starring: Kuroo Tetsuro x fem!reader Word count: 1366 Content: Pining, soft Kuroo, some grossness (blame CAH), shyness, making out, best friends to lovers, implied smut. A/N: This is inspired by a black card from Cards Against Humanity. It came shock last in the recent poll but I just *had* to write this and I hope you’ll like it anyways. Unbetaed.
Tumblr media
Best friends
... Reader ...
You’ve known him since forever. A childhood friendship that has been allowed to blossom because you went to the same schools. Only in college were you forced further apart but Kuroo Tetsuro and you managed to keep in touch, relishing the moments you met up.
You can do anything together: sports, homework, chats (serious or not), silences, games...everything. You know him inside out and that’s why it probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise to you when you realized you were falling for him. Slowly but surely, your adoration for your friend has deepened, turning into longing for something more.
Something you are sure you’ll never get because Tetsuro is your friend. Your best friend.
“Oya...it’s your turn,” Tetsuro breaks through to you.
The two of you are hanging out at his place. It’s late on a Saturday night and out of boredom, you’ve pulled out Cards Against Humanity, taking turns to read out black cards for the both of you to come up with the most depraved answers. No white cards involved. It’s not needed because with just the two of you there’s no point in making it a proper game.
Picking a new card, you glance over the text in an effort to distract yourself from what you’d really been thinking about: Tetsuro.
“What don’t you want to find in your Kung Pao chicken?” you read.
“A toe,” he answers promptly, making you instantly visualize it much to your regret.
You shudder. “Eeeew!” Then you have to think for a moment, wanting to out-gross the guy. “A...tooth?”
He looks at you with disbelief before snatching the card. “I win.”
“It’s not a competition!”
“Is now after that answer ‘cause I need to teach you some things,” he grins and your insides go all warm and mushy at how pretty he is with that cocky expression.
Pulling a new card, he wriggles closer to the coffee table, resting the elbows on it and staring you deep in your eyes. “I get by with a little help from...blank.”
You know he’s hinting at something dirty. Kuroo has no problem talking about sex-related things and most of what you know you’ve learned from him chatting away. Actually, you have no personal experience on the matter apart from what you secretly do when you’re all alone. Thankfully that’s never come up.
Tampering down the heat in your cheeks, the word ‘friends’ pop out before you can think clearly again. Sure, it might be a perfect quote from the song, but it’s not as deranged as the game calls for.
“Classic,” he smiles before clearing his throat, “the female orgasm.”
Again, you have to tamper something down but this time it’s harder because you’ve just gotten a clear image of Tetsuro naked and flush against you, his fingers dancing under your panties and oh my could you use some of that.
“What? No applause?” he pouts but still takes the card.
It’s your turn to pick one and as you read it to yourself first, you swear the universe is out to get you. “How did...how did I lose my virginity?”
“Ooooh, nice one!” Kuroo savours the question before glancing to you. “You start.”
“But I picked the card!”
He shrugs. “So? Go on.”
Come on, something crazy or realistically kinky. But you’re coming up blank. “Uhm...with my first love...”
Tetsuro freezes mid movement as he’s about to take a sip of his drink. Slowly, he turns to look at you before setting the glass down. Reaching out, he takes the black card from you, studying it as if he doesn’t believe what it says and then places it too on the table.
“Serious question,” he leans back on the couch, “that answer...you’ve never had sex, have you?”
“Oh come on! Just because we’re best friends doesn’t mean I have to tell you everything I do!” You don’t know why it’s such a big deal, really. Not for you and especially not for him.
He seems to have come to the same conclusion. Shrugging, he smiles softly at you and your nerves change characteristics. Why did you have to fall for this guy? Couldn’t you just have gone out and found someone else when you first realized? But it’s too late now: you’re in love with your best friend and you can’t imagine losing your virginity to anyone else than him. It’s just never going to happen.
“Well, I’ll have to answer differently than originally planned...’with the wrong person’,” Kuroo sighs.
The answer surprises you. You’d think he’d say something kinky but this sounds so profound and full of regret.
“What do you mean?”
“The right answer is yours...I just didn’t take that risk.”
The silence is awkward for once until you decide to admit he’s right. “Well...me neither.”
“[Y/N]...have you had a first love? Or have?” You nod, feeling the heat spread from your face to your chest. “Someone I know?” You nod again, unable to hold his gaze any longer.
Your answer hangs heavily in the air and when he gets up, you half expect him to leave the room but instead he comes over to kneel next to you, lifting your face towards him with a finger under your chin. The touch sends goosebumps speeding along your limbs and a tiny sigh escapes you.
“Can I kiss you?” Tetsuro whispers, amber eyes searching your face for any sign that you want him to stop...or to continue.
It’s a small nod but he sees it. Face breaking into a bright smile, he leans in and plants his lips on yours ever so gently.
At first.
Then his hand slides along your jaw and cups your head so he can deepen the kiss. He tastes of the pop he’s been drinking. Tastes the way he smells too which is your favourite scent (as long as he doesn’t douse himself in cologne or whatever...you like him au naturel). Your hands reach for his shirt to tug him closer or maybe make sure that he’s really there and it’s not just one of your dreams. But you feel him. And it’s better than you could have imagined.
As the kiss extends, Kuroo presses himself closer to you, leaning in over the armrest. You can hear him breathe heavily through his nose and you try to do the same but still you turn dizzy and have to break away.
“Oya oya,” he almost whimpers, “I’ve dreamed of this for a long time...”
It’s hard to believe until you meet his gaze. You know him and his tells...and he’s speaking the truth.
Pulling him back for more, Tetsuro manages to skirt around the armrest. Standing between your legs, a knee resting on the seat between your thighs and his whole body curled in around you, his kisses drive you backwards into the soft cushions and he has to support himself against the back of the chair. Soon his mouth begins to wander, seeking out the tender spots beneath your ear and on your throat. Hands roam, exploring new places after soft sounds of request and permission have been exchanged.
Something ignites within you. You’ve tried it before when your own hands are at work and your mind is filled with images of your friend. This time, however, it’s much stronger.
“More,” you whimper into his hair.
He has his head buried in your cleavage but it snaps up to regard you with a burning intensity. “You sure?”
You nod.
“Say it...say what you want, please,” he is frozen in place.
You wriggle against his still hands but he refuses to budge. “I want...more...you.” You can see he understands but he still holds back, willing you to say it out loud. “I want to sleep with you. Please?”
Finally, he moves. Scooping you up in his arms, he carries you to the bedroom and lays you down gently on the bed. “Anything you want, babe.”
“I trust you.”
“I love you,” he answers, breaking open the floodgates that have held back all the emotions for so long.
“I love you too.”
His smile is dazzling but you only get to enjoy it for a moment before he busies himself again.

⌕ [ dear yn (love kuroo tetsuro) ] — t.kuroo !
dear yn,
are you made of uranium and iodine? because all i can see is U and I together ;)
i didn’t know how to start this so i figured a chemistry pick up line would make you laugh
let me just skip to the important part of this; i love you. i’m in love with you. and i have been since second year.
i’m not crazy. i know thats what you’re thinking, asshole. and i’m not joking either.
this letter is way too serious for me and i’m actually cringing at how bad this confession is. i’m also cringing because i’m too much of a pussy to do this in person.
kenma came up with idea though, so blame him. (we both know he’s gonna deny it, but he suggested the letter.)
and i know it was a pussy move to give this to you on a friday because we don’t see each other over the weekend but this is genuinely the most terrifying thing i’ve done in my life
so when you see this and get over the initial shock, text me
and don’t make fun of my hand writing because i know that’s something you would do
i’m gonna end this now before i say something that’s too cringe
love, kuroo tetsuro

Hi everyone! I've been very busy the last few months with a variety of events, and I wanted to take a minute and share some of what I've been doing with all of you!
First up, this story, which was for the Haikyuu Be My Valentine gift exchange. I received the lovely @rmakrkn as my giftee, and I was very excited to write my first multi-chapter KuroKen for her! I commissioned my friend @yolkydolky to do some art for the story; it's in Chapter 4, and you can get a sneak peek of her gorgeous artwork here!
This was a LOT of fun to write, and I hope you enjoy 🐈 🐈‍⬛
Story Summary:
Kenma’s just started his first year of university. Originally, Kuroo seemed fine with Kenma going to a different university, but now that Kenma’s actually there, Kuroo seems to be pulling away. Why is that? What’s going on? Kenma reaches out to Kuroo, and to their friends, but no one seems to know for sure.
Kenma is determined to find out, but the answer isn’t what he expected it to be.

3, 5, and 10 for the fic writer asks!! 🥰✨
thank you so much for the asks <3 (from this ask game)
3- What's your favourite fic that you've ever written ?
HMMMM i like most of my fanfics for different reasons XD they all have memories attached to them. i'll go with guardian of his king today because i made people cry <3 and it was for a friend's wonderful art
5- What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write ?
this breaks my heart but i'll never write the lawlight black widow AU (the spider myth, not marvel). i have thought way too hard about it... and for what !!!
Light is a rich pretentious man who marries rich pretentious people to steal their money and kill them. of course people notice. L is the raccoon-looking detective sent to high society galas to catch him... i have most of the plot... even some scenes mapped out... sad of me haha
10- Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting ?
two, actually: the first one is a crackfic. in french. from 2016. on the protagonist of the haikyuu DS game (that was never translated but scanlation websites were onto it). getting a crush on Tsukishima. and i STILL sporadically comments on it ??? even one earlier this year ???? mystified that people ever read it out of my skype friends... they don't even have the context ??? floored
and the second one is trois tablettes de chocolat noir (chocolate, for the english version), i was Not expecting to meet TWO wonderful people of this one yet it happened <333

I missed you- Kuroo
Tumblr media
Numb, if you were to ask me how I'm feeling at this exact moment. The answers numb. I never thought I'd be here again, standing before you once again. Kenma. Why did it have to be in these circumstances? Why? Why didn't you move? My body tensed up as the first drop came down. Rain, how ironic. But I didn't move either, my feet glued to the ground, as my tears mixed in the rain falling down my face. Shock filled my body next. The same shock I got when I got the call. Why, Kenma. He never did anything to nobody. So why? Why him? I clenched my fist, anger now filling my body. My eyes widen when I no longer felt the rain. I looked up seeing an umbrella over my head. I looked to my right, and there stood, Kuroo. He looked like a mess, wearing all black, with his own tears matching the rain.
"You came." Was the first words that left his mouth.
"You called." I answered looking back down at the casket. "I... I didn't want to believe... I wanted it to be a joke..."
"I know I wish it was... I screamed for him to move... But... his body wouldn't let him." I covered my mouth as a sob came out. Kuroo placed his body under the umbrella too, hugging me close. The whole volleyball team, watched their high school manager break for the first time.
Looking back at my life, I can see how much I've changed, and how everyone else has changed, how everything has changed. After today, I wish I could do things differently, and today is definitely one of those days, where it changed your life completely. We all met at Kuroo's house, Kenma supposedly moved in with him. Today was just another day, to others, but to this small circle of friends Kenma did have, it was hell.
"So... Y/n. Uh, how've you been?" Yaku was the first to walk over to me.
"Ah, other than today? Okay, I guess. You?"
"Same." I fixed my scarf a bit, clearing my throat. "Ouch." I looked at Yaku confused. "That's a nasty bruise on your neck, what happened?" My eyes widen before I laughed nervously.
"Oh, I fell down the stairs the other day, hurt my neck pretty bad."
"Seems painful."
"Not as painful as this, so I'll be fine." Yaku seemed to drop the topic as I looked at photos on the wall.
"Y/n?" I turned around seeing the old team.
"Hey." I put on a weak smile at the boys, who did the same.
"How are you?" Kuroo asked placing his hands in his pockets.
"Trying to do better. You guys?" The team shrugged their shoulders.
"Hell... we all kind of separated after high school... after you left."
"Which none of us blame you for... I know it must of been hard..." Lev spoke quickly after Yamamoto.
"It was... and life was hell for me too, Yama. Especially after leaving you guys. I had no one to keep me company."
"I thought you have a boyfriend?" Lev asked making me tense up at the mention of it.
"Ex." Kuroo watched me carefully, I hated when he did that.
"Sorry to hear that." I just gave a reassuring nod at the boys.
"Yeah... what do we do after this?"
"I have to get back to work."
"I got this huge thing I have to do with my house." I furred my brows as the team begins to talk about leaving.
"Wait... guys we are Nekoma." They all stop talking and looked at their old manager. "We are all back together and you guys plan on leaving so soon?"
"We use to be Nekoma, Y/n, things changed." I sighed and looked at Kuroo for help.
"Guys..."
"Why don't we take a walk, Y/n?" I looked at Kuroo and sighed in defeat.
"Sure." I grabbed my coat and followed him outside, I wish I never had left. Then my friends would still be close. I looked up at Kuroo, we'd still be close if I stayed. In Highschool my parents always argued and one day my dad took it out on me. So I left, I left everything. "I'm sorry I left."
"Hm? Don't apologize for that. You have no need to." I use to have the most obvious feelings for Kuroo whether or not he picked up on them or not, I didn’t know. But I'd always flirted with him and teased him about everything. He was my best friend, and I held onto the hope that maybe one day he’d see me as more. Even now, I wish I never left.
"No... I mean." He stopped in front of me as I stopped. "I'm sorry I left you. I'm sorry I left everyone."
"N/n. You had every right to leave."
"But I should've kept in contact."
"Y/n."
"I should've tried. Now everyone drifted apart."
"Y/n... we didn't drift because of you. That's just life."
"But I should've stayed. I left you." Kuroo sighed and placed his hands on your shoulders.
"None of us blamed you."
"I just wished you were there through it all."
"What do you mean?" I walked off and sat down a bench nearby. "Y/n?" He sat next to me and rested his hand on my thigh. I slowly removed the scarf letting Kuroo take in the marks. "You didn't fall down the stairs did you?"
"We got into this bad argument after I got the call. He didn't want me to leave because... because you'll be here. And he... grabbed my arm as I was walking and I fell."
"Y/n..."
"I came anyway. Why wouldn't I?"
"Why did he care if I'd be here?"
"Because of this... massive crush I had on you." I laughed it off not looking up at Kuroo. "I tried to call you so many times but he'd always get so angry. And yeah..."
"You liked me?"
"I did... I do.. I just... I know I shouldn't of said anything. I know you never felt that way... towards me."
"I’m in love with you, okay?” I froze. "And I really missed you,” he spills, leaving my emotions to  go haywire. “and I want you to be mine. I've always wanted that.”
I stared at him, eyes wide. "Then I left.."
“You—” he looked at me, helpless. “you’re my best friend. I never blamed you for leaving.” I stayed silent, feeling there was more. “So. uh, I guess I,” he stammers. “I understand if you don’t—”
I didn't give him a chance to finish his thought, pressing my lips against his before he can say another word. His hand immediately comes up to cup my cheek, thumb rubbing circles into my skin. I pulled away, lips swollen and breathing heavily.
“I love you too, Tstu'.” I laughed pulling away.
"What?"
"Nothing, I can just imagine Kenma saying finally." We both laughed before looking at the stars holding one another.

"You're drooling," my brother remarked, his eyes glued to the screen, the distinctive music of his game continuing uninterrupted.
“I am not,” I retorted, though my voice lacked conviction.
“You are,” came a voice from the opposite side of me, the familiar tone of the libero, Yaku, unmistakable.
“Yaku!” I exclaimed, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. To add insult to injury, they were probably right. I had the most annoying crush on the team captain, Kuroo Tetsurou, a childhood friend who had grown from an awkward boy into an undeniably attractive and charismatic leader. Watching him command the court with such confidence and skill was mesmerizing.
I sighed deeply, resigning myself to the teasing. "Fine, maybe I was," I admitted, rolling my eyes as I stood up. I grabbed a water bottle and a towel to hand to the captain as he walked back from the court for the break. My heart thudded in my chest as I approached him, trying to maintain an air of nonchalance.
“Good job, captain,” I said, trying to keep my composure as I handed him the bottle and the towel.
Kuroo’s eyes lit up with a mischievous glint. “Thanks, miss manager,” he replied, taking the items from me. His fingers brushed mine ever so slightly, sending a jolt of electricity through my body. I rummaged in my waist bag and pulled out a band-aid, noticing a small scrape on his finger.
“You scraped your finger earlier,” I pointed out, trying to sound as professional as possible. “If you don’t put a band-aid on it, it’ll be bad. We can’t have our middle blocker out of commission.”
Kuroo chuckled softly, a sound that made my heart flutter. “Thanks for looking out for me,” he said, his eyes twinkling with appreciation.
I watched as he carefully applied the band-aid, my mind wandering back to the countless memories we had shared. Growing up, Kuroo had always been there for me, whether it was to bandage a scraped knee or offer a comforting hug when things got tough. Now, seeing him in his element, leading the team with such passion, only made my feelings for him grow stronger.
As the break ended and the players returned to the court, I found myself lost in thought, my eyes trailing after Kuroo. The way he moved, the way he commanded the court, it was all so captivating. I shook my head, trying to focus on my duties as the team manager, but my mind kept drifting back to him.
Yaku’s voice broke through my reverie. “You know, you’re not very subtle,” he teased, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
I groaned inwardly, knowing he was right. “I know, I know,” I admitted, feeling a mix of embarrassment and frustration.
“Why don’t you just tell him how you feel?” Yaku suggested, his tone surprisingly gentle.
I looked at him, wide-eyed. “Are you crazy? What if it ruins everything? It’s a lifetime of friendship! Not to mention that if I ruin it with Tetsu, Ken will definitely kill me and then forget I exist.”
Yaku shrugged. “Or it could make everything better. You won’t know unless you try. I just can’t see Kuroo not being your friend at the end of it, no matter what his response is. At the very least, I know he loves you—friend or girlfriend, I don’t know.”
I mulled over his words, my gaze drifting back to Kuroo. Maybe Yaku was right. Maybe it was time to take a chance. But for now, I’d continue to support Kuroo from the sidelines, hoping that one day, I’d find the courage to tell him how I truly felt.
When the last whistle of the day rang, signaling the end of practice, I started packing up the team’s equipment, handing items to Fukunaga, who was assigned to place them in storage. The atmosphere in the gym was winding down, players joking and chatting as they headed to the locker rooms.
“Ken, you have 20 minutes to get ready. I want to get started on dinner early,” I called out to my brother. He waved me off without turning around, his focus already shifting back to his game. It seemed video games provided all the sustenance he needed these days.
As I gathered the remaining items, I couldn't help but steal glances at Kuroo. He was talking to Kai and Yamamoto, his face animated as he recounted some play from the practice. His presence was magnetic, drawing me in despite my best efforts to stay composed. I sighed, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear.
Yaku's words echoed in my mind. Maybe it was time to take a chance, to risk everything for the possibility of something more. The thought terrified me, but the idea of never knowing was even worse. I finished packing up and handed the last of the equipment to Fukunaga, my mind still racing. I could feel Fukunaga’s eyes on me, and I ignored him. I REALLY needed to get better at hiding how I feel.
Walking over to the edge of the court, I took a deep breath and leaned against the wall, watching as Kuroo and the others made their way to the locker rooms. Kuroo glanced back and caught my eye, offering a smile that made my heart skip a beat. I returned the smile, my resolve strengthening.
Later, as the team dispersed and the gym quieted down, I found myself lingering, my thoughts still in turmoil. The familiar routine of managing the team's needs provided some comfort, but it also underscored how intertwined my life had become with Kuroo. I couldn't imagine a day without seeing him, without feeling his presence nearby.
“I’m done, let’s go,” Kenma said, startling me out of my thoughts. He stood there with his gym and school bag over his shoulders.
I nodded and looked past him to see Kuroo still hanging out. “He’s staying past practice today. Says he has a date.”
“Oh,” I swallowed thickly and nodded, opening the gym doors to allow Kenma to head out first.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice unusually gentle.
“I’m perfectly fine, Ken,” I replied, forcing a smile. My heart felt heavy, and I could feel the sting of tears threatening to spill over, but I kept them at bay.
The walk home was quiet, the silence filled only by the sound of our footsteps. Kenma was lost in his thoughts, probably planning his next gaming strategy, while I struggled to keep my emotions in check. The idea of Kuroo on a date with someone else gnawed at me, a painful reminder of the feelings I had kept hidden for so long.
As we reached our house, Kenma headed straight to his room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I started preparing dinner, the repetitive motions of chopping vegetables and stirring pots providing a small measure of comfort. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake the image of Kuroo with someone else, laughing and smiling the way he did with me.
By the time dinner was ready, I had managed to push my emotions to the back of my mind, focusing instead on the task at hand. Kenma joined me at the table, and he seemed to sense something was wrong with my mood “You’re not ok”
“I’m fine, Ken.”
“Y/N, we’ve known each other our entire lives, we’re twins for a reason. Don’t gaslight me into thinking I don’t know you.” He stared at me, almost reading my soul, forcing me to speak.
“Were you teasing me, or was he actually going on a date?” Kenma rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone, taking a second to play around with it. Then, he showed me the screen on his smartphone.
It was a picture of Kuroo at some flowery local café shop, wearing one of his button-ups. Next to him was a familiar face. She sits next to us in class. How did I not notice… “Is that…”
“Yes, it is.” I let out a sigh and turned back to my food, deciding to finish the conversation, the weight of Kenma’s eyes on me trying to convince me to waver. “She asked him out during lunch break last week. She was very smart in timing it just as you left to the bathroom.”
“You didn’t tell me.”
“It wasn’t for me to tell.” I sniffled and cleared my throat, looking back up at him. I didn’t think my heart could’ve broken any louder.
“I think… maybe it’s time to move on. I can’t stay in this space forever. All I’m doing is breaking my own heart.”
Kenma reached across the table, placing a hand on mine. “You deserve to be happy, Y/N. Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end. It just means there’s something else out there for you.”
I nodded, appreciating his words even though they couldn’t fully mend the ache in my chest. “Thanks, Ken. I just need some time.”
“Take all the time you need,” he said softly. “Just remember, I’m here for you.”
The rest of the evening passed in a blur. I went through the motions of cleaning up and getting ready for bed, my mind a storm of emotions. As I lay in the dark, staring at the ceiling, I couldn’t help but think about what Kenma had said, almost competing with what Yaku had said earlier that day. Maybe it was time to let go of my feelings for Kuroo, to stop torturing myself with what-ifs and maybes, IF all I had to do what tell him how I felt, I was too late anyway.
But moving on was easier said than done. Kuroo had been a part of my life for so long, and the thought of not feeling this way about him was almost unfathomable. Yet, I knew that holding onto these unspoken feelings was only hurting me more.
As I drifted off to sleep, I made a promise to myself. Tomorrow, I would start the process of moving on. I would focus on myself, my friends, and the things that made me happy outside of Kuroo. It was time to heal and to find a new path forward, even if it meant letting go of the dream I’d held onto for so long.

pre-relationship bullshit haikyuu teams probably had to put up with before various ships managed to get their shit together
daisuga probably was really annoying with like small/petty jealousy, like a girl would hit on one of them and the other would be standing behind their back making faces about it and mocking it and everyone else on the team just has to put up with it. and then theyre all overly sweet to each other to make up for the petty jealousy or some odd version of "winning them back" after the flirting event and the team is rolling their eyes *so hard*
i think asanoya is so annoying bc nobody can convince Asahi that Noya likes him. Like full stop. Eventually someone pulls him aside and is point blank like "Noya said he has a crush on you ask him out" and Asahi is just like: "Haha he was probably joking" and just leaves the scene. Like the absolute refusal to believe it from Asahi combined with Noya's classic teen boy inability to be sincere means that even after theyve both been told they somehow still havent gotten together??? how long is this going to take???
tsukkiyama probably ruins everyone's week the week before they get together bc one of them *saw* a confession letter stuck into the other's bag and absolutely went (emotionally) off the rails for the days leading up to them discovering it was for them.
I am fully of the camp that iwaoi start dating before they label it/make it official so the whole team is screaming like "PLEASE HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT" meanwhile Oikawa is saying "we just went on a few dates and kissed a few times it doesnt mean anything" and Iwa is in the background shouting "yeah I dont wanna be anyone's boyfriend that's lame" and then they wander off to go eat dinner together holding hands and the team is left in frustration because ALL they talk about is how theyre *not* in a relationship.
for bokuaka its mostly just Bokuto pestering every goddamn person he knows for like 4 months asking "do you think Akaashi likes me?" or "do you think he'd say yes if I asked him out?" and then one day making Konoha *snap* when he says "I need to tell you a secret" and the secret is that he has a crush on Akaashi as if nobody had known that
with ushiten I imagine Tendou was probably really obvious with his crush/interest but in like a very casual "not taking myself too seriously" kind of way so he's comfortable openly flirting, and Ushijima, against everyone's expectations, doesnt seem to mind the attention but is still who he is, so the whole team just has to put up with the most INSANE interactions. Like Tendou walks into the locker room and cat calls him and Ushijima just replies with a formal "thank you" and Semi is contemplating slamming his head in a locker. There's like 12 months of this.
okay okay but I think arankita is *very classic* in that Aran compensates for his crush by over-supporting Kita. so like the whole team gets super annoyed bc Aran wont risk disagreeing with him, is always offering to do extra work, is generally just sucking-up really badly and the twins suffer the most for this bc Aran used to just ignore their antics but now he's super annoyingly on them all the time to try and impress Kita
kuroken is a little different. Yaku asks Kuroo every single day if he's asked Kenma out yet. Lev asks Kenma if he has a crush on Kuroo every chance he gets. Fukunaga gives them a wink when they leave practice to walk home together. This is the only pairing in which the team is the irritant pre-relationship and then post-relationship everyone loses interest and moves on.
I'd include kagehina but once again the entire goddamn show is everyone putting up with them flirting so whats the point.

crushing on you | captains
a/n short headcanons on if the haikyuu captains had a crush on you. not proofread.
characters tetsuro kuroo, daichi sawamura, wakatoshi ushijima, shinsuke kita
masterlist
Tumblr media
tetsuro kuroo
you two have been friends since the beginning or high school
he noticied his feelings for you after a bout a year
realizing how much he enjoyed your company and how his heart skipped a beat when you were near
he gets more flirty
making playful comments and constantly teasing you
the way you react confirms his suspicions as to whether you like him back
still takes him a while to put two and two together
you often visit him during practice
but only because he practically begs you to come watch and support him
he does it so he has an excuse to spend time together
he'd try to impress you with his skills
often looking to see if you were watching
becomes more protective than he already is
invites you to his games aswell
makes sure you have a good seat so he can see you cheering him on from the stands
keeps his feelings to himself for a few months
unsure of how to proceed with putting your friendship at risk
he asks kenma for advice
he seems disinterested
but kenma knows you too and thinks the two of you couldn;t e anymore perfect for each other
and encourages kuroo to just take a chance
daichi sawamura
you and daichi have been friends since middle school
bonding during group projects
you two always seemed to end up be paired together
he realized his feelings much later
probably around second year of high school
he noticed how much he relied on your support and how his heart always seemed to flutter at your smile
he's protective ash
he becomes moe playful the closer you two get
he loves telling jokes he knows will make you smile
very attentive to all your needs
tired? he'll take notes for you so you could sleep during class
bored? he'll tell you funny stories about tanaka and nishinoya embarrassing themselves until you don't seem as bored
anything like that
keeps his feelings to himslef for a while
he confides in sugawara who teases him for waiting so long to do anything about his feelings
which leaves him a blushing mess
encourages him that theres nothing to worry about and to just go for it
wakatoshi ushijima
you and ushijima became friends at the start of high school
he just loved how determined and hard working you are
took him a long time to realize his feelings
hes a little dense, not stuopid, and thats okay
he just finally seemed to realized why he felt so different whenever you were around and how much he appreciated your company
he might not notice it but he becomes a tiny bit more reserved and quiet after
observing you from a distance and lowk getting a little flustered whenever youre around
so so so protective
like hes afraid to get too close to you but also doesn't want anyone else to get near you either
you guys have a similar schedule, just switch volleyball for wtv club your interested in, so you two walk from place to place together everyday
he'll send you pictures of little things that remind him of you
not realizing how initimate it usually is
i don't think he keeps it to himself for a while
i think after he figures it out himself he would bring it up with tendo and semi rather sooner than later
the two of them quick to offer any help to confess to you
they think youre the sweetest and a perfect fit for their captain
shinsuke kita
you two have been friends since elementary school
growing up in the same rural area and attending all the same schools
he probably didn't realize his feelings for you until like second or third year of high school
since you often came to games and practices to show your support
it took a lot of teasing from his juniors to finally realize
he's always been attentive and protective
but it reaches a whole new level since he realized his feelings
lowkey becomes more playful
matches your playful personality
which lowk confuses you because he's never acted like this before you think theres something off about him
but he's just nervous
sure he's had crushes before
but your his longest friend, theres something different about this situation than all the rest
he's always checking in on you
asking to spend more time than usual
he feels as if he should keep his feelings in
not wanting to ruin what the two of you have
also because graduation is coming up and he still wants to see you after
doesn't want to ruin the whole friendship if you happened to not feel the same
but his team sees how good you two are for each other and encourages him to take a leap of faith before he even has a chance to ask for their advice

Kuroo Tetsuro has survived just about a hundred confessions in his lifetime. No, really, he has. He's survived meek, stuttering schoolgirls who bring him boxes of intricately wrapped chocolates, bolder, riskier classmates who offer to fill in the empty spot as his plus-one for school events, even girls from schools they play against who ask for a signature across their tits after Nekoma matches (which he has definitely never taken up before, for sure, not even a question.)
He is rendered speechless for the first time in his life, as he rummages through his brain, looking for the right words to either declare his undying infatuation, or to put together some sort of excuse as a backup plan if his confession goes sideways. Somehow, he fails to do either, which is how the two of you end up stuck inside the storage room of Nekoma's gym, surrounded by the seductive scent of rubber and leather volleyballs, and sweaty, unwashed school jerseys.
It was supposed to be easy, he was supposed to offer to pack up, and wait for the rest of the team to leave first, before ushering you, the team manager, over to him. He was supposed to tell you that he thought you were totally cool (not awesome yet though), one hand pressed up against the wall outside the storage room so his body could lean into it, and the other one spinning a volleyball on his finger like he just #didn't care lol if you said yes or no (which was a blatant lie). After that, since you would obviously have said yes anyways, he was supposed to flick the ball up and catch it with one hand only, flip his hair back like the totally awesome and nonchalant guy he thinks he is (he's not), and give you a wink for good measure, just so you remember how totally hot he is and never lose interest in him. Then, he would retreat into the storage room, and toss the volleyball into the basket with the others, waiting to hear for your giddy skips out of the gym. Once you were out, he would scream and jump like a teenage schoolgirl who just got their tits signed by Kuroo Tetsuro, and go home with a skip in his step. It was a perfect plan, down to the minute details.
Everything went south the second he decided to lean against the wall. It seemed that he had miscalibrated how many inches away the part of the wall that he was planning to lean on was from the door to the storage room. He instead opted to place his entire body weight onto the door that was kept ajar, so as to make sure Kuroo could go inside and toss the volleyball into the basket. It was already too late to salvage his plan when he sensed the shift in his centre of gravity, and the lack of surface beneath his feet as he tumbled straight into the storage room right in front of you. Obviously worried (of course, since you're supposed to be blindly in love with him), you ran in as well, too quickly for Kuroo to stop you before the door slowly swung shut behind your back, drowning the room in a blanket of pitch darkness.
The door unlocks from the outside. The keys are in Kuroo's pocket, which are now stuck inside the storage room that he had to unlock from the outside to keep open so he could toss the ball into the basket with the others after confessing his totally lowkey, "they don't even matter at all" feelings for you. See? This is what happens when Kuroo tries to do new things.
"You sure you don't want the lights-"
"KEEP THEM- nah, just keep them off, I like it better this way anyways."
He will stand in front of the light switch to block it completely if he needs to. He will threaten to strip naked right then and there if it means you will not even try to turn those fucking lights on. His entire body is so fucking red right now it's not even funny anymore, just embarrassing, and really, really lame. On the other hand, you just really want to find your phone, which has miraculously slipped out of your pocket and slid onto the ground of the storage room somewhere.
"Can I at least borrow your phone for a flashlight? I need to find mine, gotta let my parents know I might actually not make it home tonight."
Now Kuroo isn't a selfish person, and he is happy to offer his phone for you to find your own, so long as you don't try to look at him while you sweep across the floor of the room. He is happy to offer his phone, but it is sitting outside on a bench, far away from the horrors of the storage room. His free hand, now clammy and grimy from falling onto the ground and sweating bullets from his embarrassment, reaches up to rub his temples. Not only did his meticulously crafted plan blow up in his face, he now has to spend how many hours stuck in here with you, knowing full well he was going to confess. He can't even offer you help in finding a fucking phone in here. This isn't funny anymore, just humiliating, and really, really, really lame.
"Yeah, uh, that's somewhere outside too, my bad."
You stretch your hands out in front of you, feeling for a cart, or a wall, anything to lead your way. Your fingers manage to graze over the wall, and you almost cry out in relief when you can vaguely tell where in the storage room you are. Pressing your back against the wall, you slide downwards to sit. You don't have a watch, or any indication of time for that matter, but you can tell it's going to be a long night in here.
So why not probe a little further?
"Well, Tetsu, since we'll be stuck here for a while anyways, what were you saying before?"
The way his nickname rolls off your tongue makes him reconsider giving up on his efforts, until the rest of your question ensues. Kuroo can make out where you are from your voice, and he too tries to feel for a wall of some sort to walk along. Instead of a wall, he walks straight into you and trips over, falling into a pile of old jerseys. He isn't even sure how you're sitting here with that chemical weapon right next to you, but this will have to make do for now. He settles himself down beside you, his hand pressing against the ground.
"Me?" Who else? The Boogeyman?
"No, me. Yes, obviously you, dumbass, before you locked us both into this place."
He is sure of one thing: He does not want to confess to you right now. He did, twenty minutes ago, but as of now, he doesn't. His eyes dart wildly from one place to another, looking between nothing in particular in the pitch black room. Fuck me! Kill me now! Put a stop to this never-ending suffering! You think those old jerseys might actually have fatal effects on the human body?
"Nothing, don't worry about it haha it's literally nothing." God he sounds so fucking stupid. Haha? Seriously? Like that's going to save him now?
"Alright, then, guess we'll just sit here in silence for however long it takes until someone finds us. It will probably be tomorrow morning, just letting you know. But that's fine." No, it is not fine. You're itching to know what he was going to say. You're really hoping it's what you thought he was going for, but being hopeful leads to getting locked in a storage room, sitting next to a potential biohazard for the next 13 or so hours.
The motion activated lights outside the storage room shut off, and you can tell that it's dark out by the way that no light seeps through the bottom of the door anymore. Your stomach rumbles, unaccustomed to running this empty at this time of day. If only you can find your phone, which is lying unceremoniously somewhere in this room, and order something. That is your main concern. Kuroo's main concern is something way bigger, and much, much harder to fix. He is locked in a pitch black room with his team manager, who he's been head over heels fawning over ever since they graced the club with their presence. His phone is somewhere outside, which is not ideal. Your phone is somewhere inside, but to find it, you would have to turn the lights on, which is clearly the most reasonable thing to do. Except the second you turn the lights on, you will be able to see how the red from Kuroo's face and neck is slowly, but surely seeping into his white t-shirt, the amount of red enough to begin staining the collar pink, which is also not ideal, and is in fact, much worse.
"God, what the fuck am I doing?" Kuroo's hands travel to his ears, and the tips are smoking hot. He cups them in his palms, before rubbing his face in agony. This was supposed to be easy, and cool, and he was supposed to walk out of the gym with a new girlfriend. Now, he's not even sure when he will get to walk out of this gym. Should he make some small talk? Lie on the ground and sleep? Try to find a bottle to piss in for the night?
"If you help me find my phone, we can order food, and I'm telling you right now I need that, so badly. Can you please just turn the fucking lights on, Tetsu? Please?"
He doesn't respond, partially because he's too scared to, and mostly because he's trying to think of what excuse he can vomit out for being piping red everywhere the second you flick the lights on. He can feel you standing up by the way that your knee makes that little clicking sound when you extend them, the little sound he's heard so many times before during packup. You take one step, two steps three steps, hands outstretched and feeling for the smooth plastic of the light switch. Just as the coolness hits your fingertips, you flick the switch on.
Click!
"I'm like, really into you."
Oh! This was definitely not what you expected! Fuck me! Kill me now! How do you keep it cool when he's sitting right there!
You don't spare a second in turning the lights back off, drowning the room in darkness again, this time to hide your own flushing face. You're supposed to spend the next 13 or so hours in here with this guy, and he's just dropped a bombshell onto you. Not to say you don't reciprocate, because you obviously do (who wouldn't?), but you have to admit, it's a little scary thinking about the possibility of it, and it's really scary when the possibility is confirmed, for better or for worse.
Meanwhile, the possibility has been confirmed for Kuroo, for the worse. Much, much worse. Was it that bad? Was he so pathetic in his antics, that the second he truly meant what he said, you had to shut the lights off? He should've just waited longer, for more signs, or more tells, anything. He should've waited until his chances were maximised, so that there was no margin of error, and he definitely should not have planned to lean on a wall so close to a door that unlocks from the outside. Instead of his carefully orchestrated confession going swimmingly, it is drowning, and it's kicking and flailing its arms and legs everywhere, gasping for air.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this. Sorry. Wow! This is really fucking embarrassing! I need to die, like right now! Feel free to stay on that side of the room, you go girl!"
You try to stifle in a laugh, but it leaves your mouth before you can stop it. Typical Tetsuro, he just can't help but end everything with a joke. Time to test his sincerity.
"Alright, well what if..."
He can hear your footsteps approaching. He shuts his eyes, he's ready for anything. Kuroo has thick skin, he knows it. He's been hit more times that he can count in every single area of his body by the force of leather balls being struck by teenage boys, he's ready for it, trust guys! He's got this! In the bag! (The bag is a soggy paper bag that just broke from the bottom. Everything inside is rolling away from him on the ground.)
Instead of the stinging slap he's expecting, your extended hand brushes his shoulder, and then two hands cradle his face from the sides. The musty air of the storage room dissipates, and he smells chapstick instead, minty, almost unnoticeable. He braces himself. You're about to break his neck, he's sure of it, and honestly, that doesn't sound like too bad of an option right now.
"...I do this?"
Goodbye, beautiful world, and volleyball, and fans asking him to sign their tits. And most importantly of all, goodbye, you.
Then he tastes mint. It's a miracle that you even manage to find where his lips are in the pitch black darkness of the room, but a shot of luck works out in miraculous ways sometimes. This is one of those times. Kuroo has no idea what he's doing. Should his hands go on your waist? Or your face? Or your neck? Why is he thinking about those things right now, as if he can see where you are, and as if you aren't kissing him in the middle of the gym storage room? Fuck it, he just shuts his eyes and lets it happen, placing his hands wherever he can find you.
After all, he's Kuroo Tetsuro, and he just pulled his team manager by locking himself in a room with them on accident at 8pm on a Wednesday night.
"This was all a part of my masterplan, you just weren't aware of it."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Tetsu."
“Oh, this definitely does.”
You pull him close by his collar, and you can feel the heat radiating off his face. You smirk, can’t have a guy like him getting too cocky.
“Don’t embarrass me, motherfucker.”
Kuroo grins at your threat. Never has he ever had to make his own confession, let alone receive a threat in response. To be fair, never has he ever been locked in the gym’s storage room with his team manager either. Truly a night of new experiences.
He thinks it’s hot. Like really hot. He might just embarrass you a little once every so often to hear you say it again.
“Whatever you say, princess.”
____________________________________________
Kenma comes in for morning practice the next day, and for once Kuroo is earlier than him, judging by the way that his duffel bag is slouched over the bench, and his regular sneakers are sitting beneath it. Coach has given him the spare keys to the storage room, just in case Kuroo has lost his set again. He goes to unlock the door, seeing that it's closed, which means Kuroo has definitely lost them.
He opens the door to the two of you asleep, half of your body sprawled on top of his, and one of his arms resting inside your shirt, right on the dip of your back, atop a pile of old, musty jerseys. He winces, not at the sight of the two of you finally together, but at the fact that you two have managed to fall asleep in the centre of a bioweapon.
