so. wei created a huge multifandom rp focused discord, especially with lesser known fandoms in mind! it has all kinds of fun stuff and you can really choose your own experience! (ignore the name of the server, it was the only thing we could think of to call it)

you might want to join if:

. you want a server that is dedicated to being the best it can be!

. you want a server that respects all headcanons and interpretations while appreciating literary analysis

. you like one or more small fandoms, want to meet other people who like those same fandoms, and maybe even rp as well

. you like dnd

. you want to have the option to create and post things for rps or to not have anything created/posted for rps if you want!

. you like servers where non-mods get to have a lot of say in everything basically on the level of mods

you might not want to join if:

. you don't like the idea of there not being a limit to the amount of people who can rp as a character or how many characters someone can rp as

. you don't like the idea of anyone being able to submit any fandom to either be able to be RPed as or to be banned from rp.

. anything else in the rules and info channels doesn't sound good to you

. you would be uncomfortable with the fact that the only time when wei would consider adding a limit to people joining would be when there are multiple active people for every character in every fandom

. you would want to have stuff created and posted for every rp, even if someone in said rp wouldn't be comfortable with that

. you don't like that the mod team, including us, the server owners, aren't going to be an authority thing but rather a group to carry out server tasks

. you aren't comfortable with the fact that the media here is going to be imperfect and that there will probably be Cwed discussions of said imperfection

One of those things that fucks me up okay, is that jack the ripper irl actually killed some single mothers who had turned to sex work to make ends met making the fictional senario of a bitter An killing them over babies all the more fucked up (this is something that skirts good decorum vis a vis applying real life tragedy to fiction so it's okay if you don't publicly respond I just think about this too much now)

Also something that butters my biscuits is how An didnt even ??? Consider adoption ??? Like honey people are already talking shit about you (as a woman doctor) so you might as well adopt and break form about biological children, these kids need love! We see orphans all the time in Kuro! Au where An saw some orphans coming home from work and asked about there situation and felt empathetic because she feels "left behind" from her husband and Rachel like the kids probably felt left behind by their parents and An starts doing doctor work for kids in orphanages and maybe finds some she really relates to (maybe twin red heads? A parallel to the twins Rachel had) she spends time as a firey justice angel for the orphans of London

I don’t mind responding! I’ll do my best to be respectful of the real-life incidents in my answer.

Although I believe Yana used the names of at least some of Jack the Ripper’s actual victims in the manga (i.e. Mary Jane Kelly), I’m not certain about the extent to which she modeled their backgrounds on historical fact. However, I agree that the fictionalized killings would be even more tragic if the women in question were single mothers, which would also lend a bitter irony to An’s self-righteous condemnation. Madame Red’s murderous acts also highlight the socioeconomic inequality between these women and herself. With her wealth and status, An would be well-equipped to raise a child on her own, but that likely wasn’t the case for many Victorian-era sex workers, especially due to the stigma and ostracization that single mothers endured. And then there’s the internalized misogyny of policing the decisions other women make about their bodies...but I digress.

To address the second part of your ask, it could be that Angelina was adamant about a child being her own flesh and blood. I’ve personally never understood the sentiment, but know that it can be a sticking point for some would-be parents. However, I think it’s more likely that Yana didn’t consider that option because she needed An bitter and broken-hearted for her to descend into villainy (good ol’ plot convenience).

I absolutely love your AU idea!!! It would be a beautiful way for An to use her skills for good while healing from her personal tragedies. So wholesome and sweet! Can this please be canon? 😭❤️

Can I be honest with you? Ever since the origins of grim reapers was revealed, I've struggled with how I feel about that Kuro. I've wondered countlessly if that specifically will have significance, later on. Otherwise, why reveal that detail? Why not leave it a mystery? Your recent 'ramble' put a lot of in-between-the-lines context into perspective, concerning our Ciel's mental well-being.... (1/2)

That being said (tw sorry) do you personally think Sebastian goes for souls that want to off themselves, or was it an unfortunate coincidence? He said he was much more selective; is that what was meant? How do you think the manga is going to end; will that detail tie into it? Do you think Our!Ciel might actually become a reaper? (2/2) * * * So I want to state that this ramble was something I wrote it out of deep frustration, and considering it’s nature and how personal it was I decided not to tag it. And I will to my best to attempt to address, and answer all of this, with another long, long... super long... winded ramble. 

 So before I address what you’ve said, I’ll just clarify real quick why I rambled about all of that, in the first place. Why point out Our!Ciel is suicidal and talk about it in more depth? Well. When you heavily relate to a character that is extremely difficult to categorize, and wont fit into any one archetype, people often deeply misunderstand that character. And some misunderstandings are annoying in the best case, and harmful in the worse.   I read some ice-cold-takes about Our!Ciel a while ago, and it hit very close to home, at the time. Not in a good way. A few people close to me agreed with these takes (or perhaps in hindsight liked them passively and didn’t give it as much thought as I did, and I can own that). Needless to say I was surprised about it, and it sparked a long conversation that got heated... very quickly. Because the topics at hand, weren’t simple opinions and they extend into non-fictional opinions that I take personally... they were, and are, extremely sensitive in nature, and it’s much bigger than any one fictional character.  I don’t know how to tag all of the trigger warnings. Child suicide, suicide, self-harm, cult, abuse, csa... It’s all getting talked about so please read at your own risk.  Essentially, it boiled down to the question. Do suicidal children, and victims of abuse HAVE any real, human agency left once they’ve reached a point of trauma? At what point should they no longer be held accountable, and should harmful actions they exhibit have consequences if they still have agency?  Specifically how this relates to our!Ciel: Can everything (and I do mean everything from the contract onward), Our!Ciel has done, be blamed on Sebastian?  It’s easy to say Our!Ciel can’t be held accountable for any of his actions because he’s a child; had he not been ‘manipulated into the contract’ (a separate and touchy subject), because he would then, have never have done these things, and therefore, he should not be held accountable for them. I agree it’s far from simple and is no way black-and-white... However, that’s the easy choice to make, and it’s also a harmful one. I would argue that to a degree, he does have to answer for choices he makes on an individual basis. Perhaps not every choice, but many of them. Sebastian had nothing to do with Mary Kelly’s death, for example. O!ciel chose not to spare her. O!Ciel chooses to act in ways and uses Sebastian as a weapon that results in a lot of people dying that could have been spared.  He is already suicidal and can abandon the contract at any time. Remember that this is a child that knows undoubtedly his life and soul is coming to an end. O!Ciel is not afraid to take people down with him if it means he’s getting his revenge.  Every nation of the modern world, does have a system in place to hold children accountable for crimes. Age, mental illnesses, upbringing, and trauma are only taken into account so much.  His age alone, is not a good enough reason to suggest he’s got no sense of what’s right, and what’s wrong.  When someone chooses actions, they choose the consequences of those actions; this is something people learn at a very early age, so no, I don’t think it’s a fair statement to say children can do whatever they want on a whim (what kind of society would that look like) solely because they’ve been traumatized.    It’s only when a person reaches a point where they completely fail to recognize if they do a, it will result in b.  If I stick my hand in the fire, it will burn. Ect. does a person truly not comprehend what’s right and wrong, and fails to predict obvious consequences to actions... only then can someone really not be held accountable.  Our!Ciel understands his actions and his reasoning; he’s mentally ill but not SO mentally forgone; he just either forces himself not to care, and swallow the guilt because his revenge is more important to him.  I would caution everyone I meet, to fear the person who suggests that they, themselves, are just incapable of committing any wrong-doing, because they’re too sick or mentally-ill. It’s not an excuse. This is a manipulation tactic. People who support this idea, and encourage it in others, “oh they’re just a sweet little baby it’s not his FAULT he was HURT!” ... just make it okay for other manipulative people, to use it. We can not normalize this. It’s okay to feel hurt and want justice. It’s okay to call out abusers and want justice. But it’s not okay to get that at the expense of people who had nothing to do with that and are innocent. ....  I’m sure at some point his abusers were hurt by Vincent’s actions, hence their anger. And a lot of them probably were mentally ill. I’m positive Baron Kelvin was mentally ill. Honestly, who gives a fuck if they were or they weren’t? The point is: it doesn’t excuse their actions.  Doll was a victim of ableism and abuse; but she still helped kidnap other children for a pedophile. And she paid an extremely unfair price. A price that Our!Ciel blatantly said, he doesn’t blame any of them for. It’s all just a game to him and in that case, they lost.  He said that because it mirrors how he views his own circumstances. Right now this is all one last colossal game of chess before he dies. ... And it’s sad. Sometimes people get traumatized and it turns them into abusive people themselves. That’s why people say “break the cycle” because that’s what trauma does: abuse begets new abuse.  So... no. I don’t think it’s all Sebastian and I don’t think it’s entirely our!Ciel either.   A large part of this, however, I feel it is fair to say, falls onto the shoulders of adults in lives of teens/minors who fail them. Failed to guide them onto a better path and help them confront adult problems; especially in such a time period. Our!Ciel doesn’t have parents looking out for him, and Madame Red could only do so much without any special guardianship because he can just dismiss her (and he did). 

Alexis Midford has his guardianship. It’s easy for the readers to assume in all this time, he didn’t have valid reasons to think Our!Ciel needed much from him. Our!Ciel has his own money, he has his own servants, his own ambitions and company, and he has a deeply secured occupation involving the Royal Family: a shared employer. He’s on his way to becoming a fine young man, so he likely assumed he’d be just fine, right. No matter how strong his wife is, ultimately it’s HIS call in Victorian society about what to do about Our!Ciel...  Here’s the thing...the man had two children of his own. He claims to love our!Ciel. And any parent worth a fuck, would know that there’s no way a 10-year-old should be left to be raised by some random Butler no one has met before, and a handful of servants-- after losing his entire immediate family. So either he’s incredibly neglectful and stupid; or something is deeply, and horribly wrong with Alexis and Yana is taking her sweet time to address it (I mean, unless she doesn’t and we’re just left to wonder).  In the end, though, what we know is this: O!Ciel admitted himself that without Sebastian, he wouldn’t have survived long. He’s suicidal. He’s traumatized. And he’s responsible for the deaths of a lot of people. All that being said I can finally get to your questions, anon. First off, I think Our!Ciel, given everything that’s happened and the story pattern of this manga in general... deserves to have his revenge at the very least challenged. I think he’ll have to question before the end if it’s really worth it. He doesn’t have that much to lose if he is ready to embrace non-existence. As frustrating as this answer is, honestly... I don’t know? If Yana intends to make Our!Ciel a reaper but I think before the end SOMEONE we did not expect (or someones) is going to be revealed as a reaper. And it’s going to hit very hard. Because you’re right; Yana could have left that detail out and could have continued to leave how grim reapers are ‘born’ up to the imagination of the reader. It wouldn’t have mattered.  And she’s clearly not afraid to point out there are younger reapers out there on the job, as demonstrated by Sascha’s existence as a character. It’s a subtle way of pointing out ‘this kid killed themselves, let that sink in.’ I don’t think this story is going to have the satisfying ending people are hoping for, though, concerning revenge, and that being said... I believe at some point, the information will become extremely relevant. But I’m just not entirely sure in what way.  I don’t blame you, anon, for feeling this way about Grim Reapers, and how they’re made. It’s a harsh punishment for the world Yana has created for people lost to suicide.  ... I will say this: it wouldn’t shock me, because this story is as dark as it is. But I don’t think it would be received well. Some people already don’t like that reapers are suicide victims period. So doing it to one of the main characters might not sit well. And I think a lot of people would be especially upset if Our!Ciel did get his revenge, AND became a grim reaper; because it would be seen as glorifying suicide. If he does become a reaper, I think he wont get his revenge in it’s full entirety, and Sebastian definitely wont get his soul and would obviously be opposed to the idea. It would be an ‘everybody loses’ situation and I just feel like... there deserves to be some sort of silver lining. Some kind of take-away other than ‘revenge is stupid and never works out.’  I’m a fan of the idea of Our!Ciel becoming a reaper in fanwork and rps and I will adore the idea until the day I die, but as far as canon is concerned, I don’t think it would be... smart. Of Yana to do, unless she does it extremely carefully and well.  Sebastian? Fuck, Sebastian...  I personally think, from a logical standpoint, a demon would probably like less reapers in the world; shepherding souls away and protecting them would be a real bummer. So in that line of thinking it would make sense for a demon to go for souls that want to die; they’re desperate and want to be released from pain.  However in Sebastian’s case, I really can’t say for certain if he prefers soul’s that are depressed and want to die necessarily; it is probably a coincidence on his part. I touched on this briefly but... when Our!Ciel exhibits weakness and shows signs of his trauma, he’s never revealing in it. Doesn’t enjoy it at all in fact, doesn’t comment on it in a positive way. If anything he’s annoyed by it and it gets in the way of things. We only see the opposite; he praises him for being fueled by motivation and seeing his master strong. He seems to have a fundamental lack of understanding of how the human psyche works; he didn’t know that Our!Ciel was having a delusional mental breakdown caused by C-ptsd in the Green Witch Arc-- he just saw him weak, and took him at his word, and thought he was truly consenting to abandoning his revenge and breaking the contract. He didn’t understand his Master wasn’t himself in that moment, if he had, he might have had more patience. Truthfully when it comes to such subjects, he probably didn’t really care before, because he’s never wanted to care / had a reason to care, until he met Our!Ciel... and suddenly he’s the asthma expert, and becoming woke to aspects of human beings he wasn’t before. I think each time he manifests and takes a physical form in the human world, he learns new things about human beings. ...  I think I answered all of your questions? I’m sorry this is as long as it is but such deep questions deserve deep answers.
