About
The latest chapter in the Trails saga is finally here! The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- features a streamlined version of the battle system from its predecessor, which swiftly and seamlessly transitions from field battles to command-based turn battles, as well as the LGC Alignment system, which allows players to change their character’s three unique attributes (Law, Gray, and Chaos) according to their playstyle, influencing their status, the forces they fight with or against, and even how the plot unfolds! Furthermore, The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- is loaded with unique content, including a variety of new challenges throughout the Republic of Calvard.
Prologue
S.1209. After the threat of the mafia organization Armata was gone, the Republic of Calvard regained its former peace. But one day, in a corner of Edith City, a bizarre incident occurs in which a CID (Central Intelligence Department) special operations squad was found slaughtered. The Calvard Police and Bracer Guild begin investigating the matter. But sensing that a new time of chaos may come, underground factions also start making moves. Meanwhile, Spriggan Van Arkride also begins his investigation, kickstarted by a visit from an unexpected someone. Who is the culprit behind the massacre? Why did they do it? And what will happen to Agnes, who is searching for the Eighth Genesis, the last legacy of her great grandfather? The brutish roar of a crimson beast, and an encounter with a young boy and girl seeking “something” will lead them down a “Trail” that they cannot escape.

Speculation on: Falcom ~ Anime Expo 2024 Special
Okay, so I know I made a biiiiiig deal last time about holding off on another one of these articles until we’re well into summer. Sadly, things didn’t work out quite the way I wanted them to. I was originally hoping that I could fold this into the upcoming CS3 journal… but that’s going to make its debut later than I originally intended. That being said, given just how much has changed since…

youtube
Leading the charge in this one is the young Spriggan Van Arkride, voiced by Daisuke Ono.
Other characters revealed thus far include Agnes Claudel (Miku Ito), first-year student at Aramis High School and member of the student council and General Affairs department.
Elaine Auclair (Chiwa Sato) is an A-rank bracer with master-class skills who works under the Sword Maiden nickname.
CRIMSON SiN finds Van investigating a bizarre massacre in a corner of Edith City that interrupts a period of relative peace in the Republic of Calvard. [Possible spoilers for Kuro no Kiseki I and previous Trails games.]
Falcom has released new information and screenshots for The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- introducing characters Renne Bright, Shizuna Rem Misurugi, Kasim Al-Fayed, Mare, and Grendel, as well as the Marchen Garten system.
Get the details below.
■ Characters
Renne Bright (voiced by Aoi Yuki)
Age: 17
Weapon: Scythe
A second-year exchange student from Liberl Kingdom at the prestigious Aramis High School, and Agnes’ upperclassman who lives in the same dormitory.
She is a gifted talent able to accurately and perfectly overcome any challenge, and is known on campus as the invincible student council president.
Renne—who has a history of working as an Enforcer in the organization Ouroboros, as well as a career beyond the understanding of ordinary people, such as publishing numerous doctoral dissertations since childhood—is recognized by the Central Intelligence Division, engineers from all over the continent, and even the underworld.
In the case involving the mafia organization Armata, she used her abilities to help out the Arkride Solutions Office and Bracer Guild.
With the establishment of the Technology Federation on the verge of completion, which was her original objective in entering the Republic, and the school arts festival just around the corner, Renne seems to have returned to her home in Liberl Kingdom for the time being…
Shizuna Rem Misurugi (voiced by Maaya Uchida)
Age: 24
Weapon: Ebon odachi
The vice commander of the samurai group Ikaruga, and a user of the Black God One Blade style known by the nickname Divine Blade of Silver.
Her weapon of choice is the ebon odachi, a long sword with a detailed pattern etched onto it, and her swordsmanship allows her to overpower even the best of the best.
Despite her standout childlike face and flawless conduct, she can see and understand the true nature of things with the “Unclouded Eye” granted to her by her master, and is a vessel worthy of the name Divine Blade.
She came into contact with the Arkride Solutions Office after hiding out in the Ishgar Mountains in the eastern part of the Republic. After that, she temporarily assisted Van and company with a series of incidents caused by Armata.
She seems to have some kind of business with the Republican government, but the whole story behind her group Ikaruga and the purpose of its activities have yet to be revealed.
Kasim Al-Fayed (voiced by Yuuichirou Umehara)
Age: 28
Weapon: Military Buster Lancer
Known as the Blazing Whirlwind, he is Feri Al-Fayed’s older brother, said to be one of the strongest jaegers in the Khurga Warriors Clan.
His appearance is natural and cool, without a single opening for others to strike, and he possesses the physical strength to wield a giant military buster lancer with ease, as well as excellent commanding capabilities, and is regarded one of the “strongest” in terms of fighting strength.
He currently serves as the chief security officer of Marduk Total Security Company, and two years ago taught Van tactics via the Stun Caliber and Zero Strike.
Although he has cut ties with the Khuruga Warriors Clan, and does not have a close relationship with his much younger sister Feri, he seems to be watching her journey of growth as a warrior and human being from afar.
Mare (voiced by Maria Naganawa)
Age: ???
A special Hollow Core (support artificial intelligence) installed in Van’s combat orbment Xipha, and extremely self-assertive.
While her personality was originally set up as an artificial intelligence, with the resonance of the prototype orbment Oct-Genesis, she manifests in the real world in a hologram-like state, exhibiting a “will” unexpected of an artificial intelligence.
She seems able to freely manipulate a vast number of shards, and has saved Van countless times by covering his body in shard armor and transforming him into Grendel.
During the battle against the mafia organization Armata, it was revealed that Mare herself is a being with some sort of role, who under special circumstances can even take over human consciousness…
Grendel (voiced by Daisuke Ono)
The fairy-type support artificial intelligence Mare manifests in the real world and transforms Van Arkride by covering his entire body in shard armor.
By transforming into Grendel with Mare’s support, Van’s physical abilities significantly increase, and he exhibits tremendous fighting strength beyond human comprehension.
Grendel-Zolga, the reddish-black creature believed to be the culprit who slaughtered the Central Intelligence Department’s Gamma Squad, also wears shard armor, but it is unclear whether this is a “shackle” or not such as Van’s Grendel.
While on the case, Van and Mare confront Grendel-Zolga and its support artificial intelligence Altera on countless occasions.
■ New System: Marchen Garten
What is Marchen Garten?
Marchen Garten is the continent of Zemuria’s first virtual space service that utilizes the combat orbment Xipha and orbal network.
It is based on the data of the “Virtual Combat Simulator” that Marduk Total Security Company had been researching and developing internally, but significantly updated and expanded with new features.
By reading a vast amount of data from the orbal network, it can generate large-scale environments, making it easy for remote users to access the same virtual space.
Exploring Marchen Garten
In Marchen Garten, it is possible to freely form a party from among the members who can participate in battle, and explore areas recreated in a virtual space.
Players can move to the next area by completing the assigned mission in the current area, and battles against powerful enemies await upon reaching certain areas.
By defeating powerful enemies in battle, you can obtain rare items, as well as a large amount of “Shard Tokens” required for “Mystic Cube” analysis.
Mystic Cube
In exchange for the Shard Tokens obtained by exploring Marchen Garten and “Shard Search,” Mare will analyze the Mystic Cube that exists on the orbal network.
In addition to obtaining a large amount of Sepith via analysis, you can also acquire consumable items, accessories, rare equipment, and even special items required for Craft upgrades.
Craft Upgrades
By using special items obtained during Mystic Cube analysis, it is possible to gradually strengthen the Crafts or S Crafts of each character.
In addition to increasing power and stun value, some Crafts can be upgraded to significantly improve usability, such as by shortening the cooldown time after activating the Craft. Also, by upgrading a Craft to a certain level, it is possible obtain a stats bonus for each character, such as increasing hit rate or maximum HP.
(Craft upgrades are also applied outside of Marchen Garten, so it is possible to significantly improve your potential in battle via Marchen Garten exploration, Mystic Cube analysis, and Craft strengthening.)
Marduk Total Security Company Support
In the virtual space Marchen Garten, Marduk Total Security Company’s service concierge Mirabel Earlton will provide users various support services.
In addition to CP (Craft Point) supply and item buying services, which are essential for exploration and battle, and activity support that allows you to challenge various mini-game-style missions, you can also change Marchen Garten’s background music.
(Background music can be switched at the user’s discretion between the following four locations: the Marchen Garten service screen, field screen during exploration, field battles, and command battles.)
Shard Search
By pressing the R3 button while in a city or dungeon, a Shard Area will expand around the player character, allowing the player to discover objects that react to shards. In addition to Shard Tokens, which are used in Mystic Cube analysis, you can also find items, recovery equipment, and breakable objects hidden by shard camouflage.

Age: 26
Weapon: Military handgun
An analyst with the Integrated Analysis Department of the Central Intelligence Division. A brilliant, elite bureaucrat who exudes competence and effortlessly gathers intelligence and carries out operations in the field, all while in the midst of a factional dispute within the department.
His capabilities have been noticed by President Gramheart, and he himself has ambitions to enter the world of politics in the future.
A childhood friend and upperclassman of Van and Elaine from their school days at Aramis High, he watches over them like a big brother, but does not hesitate to take advantage of them when he needs to.
He is highly trusted by the President and in a position to know about a “certain plan” underway behind the scenes, but it is unclear what his own intentions are.
Zin Vathek (voiced by Tetsu Inada)
Age: 36
Weapon: Gauntlet and armor
A core member of the bracer guild in the Calvard Republic, and a semi-S rank bracer who has earned the nickname “Immovable.” He is a master in the Taito style, which is one of the three major Eastern martial arts, but is extremely friendly and lively.
He has the trust of many young bracers such as the ace bracer Elaine, but has also contributed greatly to resolving major issues outside of the Republic, earning many acquaintances in the police and government.
He has clashed with Walter, a senior disciple of the Taito style and enforcer from Ouroboros, many times as a fated nemesis, but….
Ellroy Harwood, the Thousand Oathbreaker (voiced by Takaya Kuroda)
Age: 47
Weapon: ???
The Fourth Anguis of Ouroboros, the highest ranking members of Ouroboros. Also known by the nickname Thousand Oathbreaker.”
It is said that he has researched and committed every crime from around the world, and is a “criminal genius” who does not hesitate to break any law or moral for personal gain.
He contacted various factions within the Republic to crush the mafia organization Almata and assassins organization “Garden,” which were expanding their power within the Republic.
While he achieved his goal of indirectly destroying the organizations, in an inexplicable move after the fact, he has for some reason been distancing himself from the “Golden Butterfly” Lucrezia, his ally who he has always worked with.
Walter Kron, the Direwolf (voiced by Takahiro Yoshimizu)
Age: 37
Enforcer No. VIII of Ouroboros, nicknamed “Direwolf.” He has the aura of a crazed combat addict, and constantly seeks battle with strong opponents.
He was originally the first disciple of Ryuga Rouran, the head master of the Taito style, and senior to Jin. He was also the lover of Kirika, Ryuga’s only daughter.
However, because of his own prowess, he has been obsessed with “power” itself, killed his master Ryuga, and began to explore his own style of the “Murderous Fist.”
After the society achieved its goal of crushing Almata and Garden, he seems to have taken up a mission from an Anguis other than Harwood, and is operating independently within the Republic.
Lucrezia Isselee, the Golden Butterfly (voiced by Kana Ueda)
Age: 30
Weapon: Dusk Glaive
Enforcer No. III of Ouroboros, nicknamed “Golden Butterfly.”
She is an alluring woman who wears a black attire and veil, with a mysterious atmosphere and posh vocabulary making it hard to read her true intentions.
Her weapon, the Dusk Glaive, seems to be a special weapon given to her by the “Grandmaster,” and possesses the supernatural ability to cut through space itself.
Because she and Harwood both transferred to Ouroboros from the assassins organization Order of the Moonlight Horse, seeing the Garden that is the aftermath of her former organization has conjured emotions within her that can only be described as either respect or pity for them…
Cao Lee (voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa)
Age: 29
A young, high-ranked member of the Eastern syndicate Heiyue, whose family has long served the Lu family, the syndicate’s largest faction. He is highly skilled in the Moon Flower style, one of the three major Eastern martial arts, and is nicknamed “White Orchid Dragon”, but also is a cunning and sharp-minded individual.
Usually, he is a realist who prioritizes personal gains, but he also sees value in connections with people, often using those connections to get what he wants.
He acts as the president of the Heiyue Trading Company, controlling the wealth of the continent’s western parts. During the incidents that occurred in Langport, he used his influence to help Fan Lu, the next elder of the Lu family, cementing his position within the Heiyue syndicate.
Gien Lu (voiced by Itaru Yamamoto)
Age: 78
One of the elders who leads the Eastern syndicate Heiyue. Although he is a short, old man, he has great influence over the underground society, as well as the intimidative character to overpower those who oppose him.
He watches over where the Eastern Quarter is headed as a normal city folk, but also has a ruthless side that sacrifices others in order to protect his organization or the city.
As an elder, he has guided Heiyue for a long time, but since the series of incidents that occurred in Langport, he has created a rift with his young underlings such as Cao and his son Fan Lu.
Gaurun (voiced by Shinichiro Kamio)
Age: 25
A martial artist from the East known as the foremost master of the Moon Flower style, one of the three major Eastern martial arts. Since there is no one who can match his strength, he is rumored to be the strongest Moon Flower warrior.
He was the lead martial artist serving the Lai family of Heiyue, but the family fell when the ties betweenthe mafia organization Almata and the Lai family came to light. Within the turmoil, he kept the moral of the family in check and earned the respect of many Heiyue members, despite other family members being absorbed in their own intents.
On the other hand, almost no one, even in the Eastern society, seems to know more about Gaurun’s past, other than being a martial artist of the Moon Flower style and serving the Lai family…
Ashen Lu (voiced by Fairouz Ai)
Age: 18
The daughter of the Lu family which is one of the elder houses within Heiyue. Gien Lu, the current elder, is her grandfather.
She is a noble, lenient, and naive lady, although she has a cunning and strong side that she shows from time to time as the only daughter of the Lu family.
She and Aaron are childhood friends, almost like brother and sister, but she was often concerned about his destructive and “dangerous” nature.
Some members of the Lu family were of the mind that Aaron was to be brought into the Lu family as her groom, but Ashen’s affection seems to be pointed forwards Cao, who has long served the Lu family and watched out for her since her youth.

■ Characters
Swin Abel (voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara)
Age: 17
Weapon: Unique dual blades
A young man and former assassin who escaped the assassin organization “Garden” several years ago.
He uses dual blades in battle, which can be combined to increase their strength, as well as slashed to “mark” body parts to be detonated.
While he seems dry and rationalistic at first glance, he is by no means cold-hearted—in fact, he is quite straightforward and sensible.
While on the run with Nadia for a while after escaping Garden, he vowed that he would never take another human life and earned their traveling expenses through jobs such as smuggling.
Following that, he seems to be leading a new life with the friends he made during his journey from Crossbell State to the Erebonian Empire…
Nadia Rayne (voiced by Manaka Iwami)
Age: 17
Weapon: Needles and modified stuffed bears
A young lady and former assassin who escaped the assassin organization “Garden” with her partner Swin.
She possesses somewhat extraordinary and excellent calculation and prediction ability, which she utilizes in battle by sharpening her senses to “analyze” the situation and enemy weak points. But all that energy burned means she will sometimes sleep or slack off once the battle is over.
She is always seen as a free spirit and Swin’s spoiled child, but her level-headed thinking is actually far more incredulous and realistic compared to Swin.
Aware of this aspect, she supports Swin—who is essentially the “honest” one—by taking on the role of the one who questions others behind the scenes.
Like Swin, she is leading a new life with new friends after the “Second Uprising” in Crossbell.
■ New Areas
In The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN-, you can explore even more areas, including Messeldam, the North City, which you could not visit in the first game. Additionally, many new areas have appeared in each region, including Edith City.
Messeldam, the North City
A mid-size harbor city facing the northern sea in North Calvard. A key point of the northern sea trade, it was once a major fishing industry area for fresh seafood delivery in Oracion City, but its influence diminished following the development of airship technology. Nevertheless, it remains an important gateway to areas such as Remiferia.
Unlike South Langport, Messeldam has no Eastern Quarter, and the harbor area that retains the cityscape of the kingdom era is popular as a historic district. Although it is geographically less familiar with Eastern and Middle Eastern cultures, anti-traditional avant-garde artwork has long flourished, and the “Orbal Film Festival” was held here every year until Tharbad became its new venue in S.1208.
Edith City: Trion Mall
A huge mall in front of Trion Tower in the 3rd Burrough of Edith City. Its shops include “Verne Store,” where the latest orbal products from Verne Company can be purchased; “Quincy Parlor,” where one can enjoy premium sweets; the “Orbal Cinema Complex,” which screens numerous movies; “Liberl Antenna Shop,” where products imported from Liberl Kingdom are sold; and more.
Edith City: Centre Marche
Edith City’s busiest grand market. Since it has everything from daily necessities to fresh food, it is known as Edith’s kitchen and visited by many as a popular tourist destination, so it is always bustling.
In an area just a step away from main street, there is a coffee spot that sells specialty coffee beans, which seem to be the same beans used for the coffee in Monmarte.
Langport, the Dazzling City: Eastern 2nd Avenue
An area known as the “Old Town” of the Eastern Quarter. Unlike 1st Avenue, the face of the Eastern Quarter and the Lu family’s turf, it is rarely visited by tourists as there are many shops and facilities that pertain to the lives of the locals, including cheap restaurants and public baths.
It is also the area that houses the head dojo of the “Moon Flower Style” (Gekka)—one of the three major Eastern styles of martial arts.
■ New Systems
Chapter Selection
In The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN-, protagonist and Spriggan Van and his allies will be separated from each other across different locations in the Republic of Calvard and act separately. Each part uses a chapter selection system. Main members for each chapter differ, and separate stories unfold.
(After a selected chapter ends, the story unfolds in a way that the other chapter automatically begins.)
Some Chapters Have Special Missions
Special missions may occur during the story depending on the traits of the characters that appear in each chapter, such as an orbal network hacking mission in which you play as the Hollow Core AI Mare, or a target tailing mission that utilizes Swin’s abilities.
The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II -CRIMSON SiN- is due out for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on September 29 in Japan, and in 2022 in Asia with Traditional Chinese and Korean subtitles.
