Critically Analyse Artistic Traditions and Lineages
For this topic, we must perform a visual examination of a piece of art in order to comprehend its production background, media, formal consequences, subject matter, and intention.
Field Trip National Gallery
We visited the National Gallery on a field trip to document the piece and analyze its media, form (such as line and color), subject matter, and surroundings.
Rhythm of Dance, Ho Ho Ying, 1959
Ho Ho Ying, who was born in Hainan, China, in 1935, is a well-known developing abstract artist who helped found the Modern Art Society in Singapore in the 1960s. He is also a renowned art critic who has written passionate essays promoting for abstraction over realism in order for Singapore art to advance in a new direction. As you can see, this artwork captures my curiosity. At first glance, it may appear to be merely a series of strokes, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be a dance beat.
Experimentation as Method, Liu Kuo-sung
Liu Kuo-sung is an artist who played a leading role in modernization of Chinese ink painting, and is known for his courage, intellect and experimentation. His use of Chinese ink to create not only a large landscape out of negative and positive space, but also a sense of texture when you examine more closely, intrigues me and makes his work interesting. The way he experiments with each piece of art has led to the development of new techniques and modes of expression, which astounds me because many people believe that Chinese ink should only be used for writing Chinese characters; yet, he chose to utilize it for other types of art, which is brave of him.
Well... I guess the year really flew by, haha! There’s still only ‘bout 7 hours until 2023 becomes a thing for me, however I didn’t really feel like drawing the occasion this year.. but I did make myself a new avatar (and banner) if you haven’t noticed already! This is probably the fifth “professional” avatar, but I really love how it turns out and hopefully I keep em for at least a very long time! Please do not steal or reuse them on your own /srs
oop I didn’t mean to make this quite a long post, haha! Again happy new years eves to ya’ll, and hopefully 2023 at least turns out good for both you and me! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
