"Louis Moe (20 April 1857 – 23 October 1945) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and writer who settled in Denmark.
Moe was born in Arendal to a dentist, Halvor Georg Theodor Moe, and Hansine Constance Halling. He was a nephew of priest and labour movement pioneer, Honoratus Halling.
Louis Moe came to Denmark in 1875, where he was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1876 and at Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler 1882-83; he settled in Denmark, but from 1897 stayed every summer in Norway.
With a versatile and wide-ranging production, Louis Moe became especially known as a draftsman, valued for his empathy, his imagination and fabulous form of expression in illustrations for Saxo's Chronicle of Denmark (1896-98), for works by e.g. Holberg , HC Andersen and Knut Hamsun as well as Asbjørnsen and Moes Norske Folkeeventyr (Swedish ed. 1936).
Louis Moe's etchings and lithographs , and not least the many children's books he himself wrote and illustrated, gained circulation throughout Scandinavia".

Jens Vige (May 11, 1864 - 1912) was a Danish social-realist painter. He trained at the Academy and later with P.S. Krøyer. After marrying, he settled at Hammer Bakker in Northern Jutland and developed a preference for open air painting (he only worked summers) in Skagen and other heath and moor landscapes up north…
Here he has paid a visit to the capital region, though:

Kristian Zahrtmann (March 31, 1843 - 1917) was a Danish history painter who specialized in the figure of Leonora Christina, whose eventful life as the wife of traitor Corfitz Ulfeldt he depicted in a great many canvases. Contemporaries  amused themselves by saying that Leonora and Zahrtmann’s mother were the only women he ever showed any interest in…
Zahrtmann also painted many portraits while abroad in Italy, and frequently depicted males in Biblical and mythological scenes. Here is another bizarre work by him, showing the Swedish Queen Kristina (1626 - 89) who abdicated, moved to Rome and converted to Catholicism. In this canvas the ex-Queen is shown lifting her skirts to warm her buttocks near a stove in the Palazzo Corsini...

Knud Kyhn (March 17, 1880 - 1969) was a Danish animal and landscape painter and porcelain/ceramics sculptor, who created many animal figurines for the three major, Danish porcelain factories: Royal Copenhagen, Bing & Grøndahl, and Kähler.
He trained at the Royal Academy and Zahrtmann's school, and traveled widely to observe animals and birds, esp. in Northern Europe. His style of painting aligns with that of Fynboerne, esp. Johannes Larsen.

Ane Marie Hansen (January 20, 1852 - 1941) was a Danish painter who had studied with Vilhelm Kyhn and at Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler. She exhibited regularly at Charlottenborg for almost 5 decades.
Hansen was mainly a portrait painter, but sadly being a gay woman artist limited her success considerably.

Christian Bonnesen (Sept. 30, 1870 - 1936) was a Danish landscape and cityscape painter. He trained both at the Royal Academy and Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler with P.S. Krøyer and Laurits Tuxen.
He was too old-fashioned for the critics who found his choice of palette monotonous. He preferred painting at dusk or in the evening light, creating nostalgic mood pieces.

Karl Isakson (Jan. 16, 1878 - 1922) was a Swedish-born Danish artist, who trained at the Academy in Stockholm, before meeting Kristian Zahrtmann in Civita d'Antino in Italy, after which Isakson studied a few years under Zahrtmann at Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler.
Isakson became a glowing Modernist in the process, whether he painted from models, or did landscapes on Bornholm and Christiansø. He also loved Norse mythology, esp. the figure of Sif (Thor’s wife) - and late in life he threw himself at making Biblical canvases.
