Kulhad chai—the beloved Indian tea served in a rustic clay cup—has become a trend that’s as much about flavor as it is about embracing a deeply rooted cultural experience. Chowk & Charpai: An Urban Living Room, India, by Archohm
Set on the riverside terrace, this pavilion explores two vernacular Indian design typologies that create spaces for community and conversation – a traditional woven day bed known as a chairpai and an open-air chowk market, which design studio Archohm describes as "the urban Indian living room".
The pavilion is formed from woven ropes set over an angular frame, with a metal stall at its centre decorated in hundreds of kullad clay cups used for drinking chai.
The cups are left unglazed and fixed to the structure with magnets, so they can ultimately be returned to the earth.

The object I got was Kullad cups, the task was to re design a cup in a better way which solves some problem. Problem statement- Person having parkinson's diseases find difficult to hold object especially kullad cups as liquid falls down. Redesign a cup for waiters and people who have parkinson's diseases who serves and drinks tea in kullads. SKETCHES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Concept- Above concepts are made in such a way who's circle faces inwards so liquid does not comes out, double side handles are made for better balancing, suctions are given at both which prevents cups from moving, Nice handle is provided at top which helps waiters to hold the pot/ cup easily.
PROTOTYPES
Concept 1- So the entire objets works for both waiter as well as the person drinking tea, the top part has narrow and inward opening so tea won't spill out, the oval thing gives a good grip for anyone to hold it and easy to balance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Concept 2- It looks like kullad and has the top cirle facing inward and it's opening is narrow whih helps the tea from coming out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Concept 3-Kullad remains like same kullad but with handles, the cap has a triangle opening for drinking tea and the chai can be served directly from the top there is that oval thing which allows chai to go inside in a straight diretion, there can also be suction below the cup which helps the cup to be more stable.

5 Beautifully Crafted Tea Cups That Will Enhance The Taste Of Your Tea
We all enjoy our teacups, don't we? From tiny sets to those with an earthy flavor, someone can never have too many teacups, can they? If you enjoy treating your visitors to a good selection of teacups, or if you frequently browse for tea cups online, wishing you may well have this and that - it is time to have the teacups you desire for yourself! However, there are numerous options for teacups. Which one shall I choose is a perennial dilemma that every teacup enthusiast has confronted! So, how do we address the problem?
Here is a list of 5 type  cups crafted very beautifully
Handcrafted Ceramic Cups
If you've been hunting for tea cups online, you've probably seen these. You may not recognise them by their name, but the teacups with gorgeous rough artwork are the ones we're talking about. They come in a variety of colour combinations - you can choose pastels, nudes, or even ones that stand out. Grey and a blend of yellow and slight blue are popular colours.
Cups with semi-curves
Semi-cups are another trendy design that has acquired a lot of momentum recently. If you look at these tea cups online, you will notice that they are smaller teacups with an exceptionally dainty feel to them. They are available in floral motifs as well as solid colours. If you choose a set such as this, we recommend that you get the ones with saucers since they suit the semi-curve appearance much better. So, if you're throwing a delicate tea party, this is the perfect go-to option!
Ceramic Cups with Two Glazes
Okay, here's another design that's captured the hearts of individualists everywhere. The double terra cotta cups are all about simple experiments using cream and brown, not extravagant colours. If you want to keep things simple and elegant, you should buy these tea cups online. You can choose between the semi-curved teacup and saucer combinations and the glass shapes that they also provide. Dual-glazed ceramic mugs have a certain appeal all their own.
Glasses for tea
Have you been a lover of keeping things completely indian? So, when browsing for tea cups online, seek for tea glasses with holders. Yes, we are discussing recreating the cutting chai experience at home. How do you do it? A mug of milk tea, and, of course, these elegant chai tea glasses. They are simple and charming, and will undoubtedly work nicely for your guests. Furthermore, they contribute to the charm of your kitchen décor while also leaving a lasting impact!
Cups made of earth
Last but not least, let us discuss the most popular tea cups online - clay cups, often known as kullads. They are basic and contribute to the feeling of drinking tea in nature. Clay soil cups have a certain appeal that is difficult to match. So, if you prefer to keep things organic and basic, that's the one to go with. Your suggestion is to get a set rather than simply one.

Kullad chai
How I found myself in Varanasi in 1990 is another story. However, one of the best memories I have of my first visit to the city was an introduction to kullad chai, which we sipped outside the gates of BHU, every time curfew was lifted. It's actually just a plain clay cup, but am not sure if it was the juvenile in me. I took an absolute delight in smashing the cup after I was done. It also helped brighten up the moment.
So, when I visited last year, I couldn't help but stop over at a chai shop in one of the bylanes along the way to the ghats.
While they serve it in paper cups now, ask and you shall be served in clay cups too. Sadly, I couldn't delight in smashing it after I was done this time round.
Hopefully, I'll get to sip on lots more kullad chai and smash those cups, when I go back early next year.
Happy Diwali to you lovely folks out there, in whichever part of this beautiful world wanderlust has you right now. 🙏

One Kullad Chai Please!!: Plate Full Of Delight
Tumblr media
Winter comes with love for hot beverages along with short days, weak sunlight, and with a feeling to hibernate to warmer climates. The amount of Sunlight we are exposed to is significantly reduced resulting in making us feeling very tired and lacking in energy .We find ourselves either sleeping too much or craving for sugary foods to help us get through the day but definitely we can sip  the winter blues with kullad chai. These are the authentic clay pots with its steaming smoking flavour gaining popularity called as Tandoori chai, so give tight hug to the Kullads with your fingers and sip the hot tea at the onset of winter blues at your home.
Tumblr media
First, clay pots (aka kullads) are roasted in piping hot tandoori. Followed with Masala chai poured over it. So that it absorbs flavours of the hot clay pot, the final beverage is served in a clean kullad for you to relish on. Sip by sip the strong aroma makes it more delicious .Definitely by this your morning will be absolutely sorted. Tea is a part of life in India, it energizes yet relaxes and alleviates the person’s mood in just one quick slurp. Especially with the winter blues the consumption of Chia increases incredibly in households. A warm cup of Masala chai is a daily ritual that we hold onto, which brings comfort to our rapidly changing environment .The spices may vary but essence of Tandoori chai remains same all over the country.   Read More...
