What if AU where the Trip to Hawaii that Shinichi constantly references in relation to his odd bits of knowledge and expertise was really the Kudos running away from people trying to kill them following Toichi's murder because of Yusaku's close relationship with his twin brother.

Yukiko and Yusaku were forced to teach Shinichi how to do a lot of complicated and frightening things like flying a plane, shooting a gun, or disarming a bomb on the spot because it meant life or death until one day Yusaku cashed in one of his government agent favours and got their relation to the Kurobas erased so they could safely hide away in Beika. They frequently went on extended trips in order to make sure they weren't being tracked before finally relaxing and living their lives comfortably until canon happened.

Shinichi has no idea why any of that happened and both of his parents are extremely tight-lipped about the truth, always referring to the people who tried to kill them as Yusaku's crazed editors. Shinichi eventually gave up on trying to find out because all evidence was meticulously discarded and just referred to it as the Hawaii Trip™.

He gets a kick out of the increasingly incredulous expressions on people's faces when he tells them he learned what cocaine tasted like in Hawaii or that he learned Russian there too. It gets even funnier when he becomes Conan, although he is careful to avoid making the joke when Ran is around.

I noticed this, and i think it's the trend where single children are more like best friends with their parents because of the one-on-one thing, but Shinichi and his mom and dad all act like besties instead of parents and child

Okay, so Kaito and Shinichi are cousins which is kinda sucks for me as a KaiShin shipper. I mean in hindsight I kinda see that one coming for a while but it still sucks for me nothing less. Not that it's gonna stop me from shipping KaiShin. I have ignored canon for years, why should I stop now lol?

But moving on! Forget the “Cousins Reveal”! I was livid with something else!

The actual suck thing that got revealed is actually the fact that Toichi might be alive. It is 100x worse than the “Cousins Reveal”. It is unnecessarily cruel to Kaito. It changes everything about Toichi as a character along with Chikage. It paints the dynamics and relationships between Kaito and his parents in a new light, a very bad one. It means both of Kaito's parents and Yusaku suck, extremely so. And Yukiko only barely dodged the bullet because we still don't know if she knows or not. Damn, both the Kudo family and the Kuroba family are messes and very very dysfunctional.

Update: I finally saw Detective Conan and the Million Dollar Pentagram.

So how did my theories hold up?

The Chikage + Kudo Family Team-Up:

They're not Kaitou Corbeau.

However, I do believe they were searching for Toichi. They started actively traveling around the time Kaito became Kid, so Jii's meddling probably forced Toichi to make a move.

(Remember, at the start of the manga, Chikage was still at home. It's the anime adaptations that say differently. )

If we're taking the stinger scene at the end of Movie 27 as canon, then sometime after Conan shrunk, they must've found and reestablished contact with Toichi.

They're probably currently in the process of convincing him to return home. Because he does need convincing.

Option 1, while no longer in play now that the MK organization believes the current Kid is Toichi, was likely his original reasoning for staying away.

With the turn of events, his family is in danger regardless of whether he's home or not.

That leaves Option 2, that he himself poses a risk to his wife and son. It's a belief that Chikage clearly doesn't agree with, since she's been dropping hints like crazy to their son.

And finally, Option 3? The only aspect that I think holds water is that Toichi might've become more violent or unstable since his assassination attempt.

I knew this last theory was unlikely, but I really don't see him becoming the BIG BAD of the series anymore...

I don't have access to Movie 27, so this theory might already be debunked.

But I'm more convinced then ever that Kaitou Corbeau is a Chikage + Kudo Family Team-Up.

If the whisperings I'm hearing about the reveal are true, then the three of them have an invested interest in seeing Kaito retire as KID.

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time Yusaku and Yukiko pulled some really sketchy shit. Remember the "Conan Edogawa Kidnapping Case" from the early volumes? They straight up kidnapped their son to prove a point.

That said, I don't think that's their primary reason behind Kaitou Corbeau. I think they're searching for Toichi Kuroba. What better way to lure someone out than to wear their face and use their own techniques?

If Toichi's body was never recovered after the accident or went missing, then of course it would raise suspicions from his loved ones.

It would explain their rather frequent trips overseas, especially considering how shit in going down in Japan right now with their children.

But if Toichi is alive, why hasn't he shown himself? I have a few theories:

Option 1) Like Shinichi, he believes that his loved ones will be safer if both they and the assassins who targetted him believe he's dead.

Obviously, this backfired spectacularly with Kaitou Kid's return. I love Konosuke Jii, but I'm starting to believe he royally screwed up Toichi's plan with his desire for revenge.

While he did not want Jii to tell Kaito of his alter ego, Toichi clearly had plans on telling his son himself. He left a voice recording in the secret room, which probably detailed his motivations and a warning not to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, that message deteriorated over the 8 years since his death.

It is possible that around this time, Chikage and the Kudo couple were tipped off on a Toichi sighting, thus forcing their focus elsewhere.

Option 2) He was seriously injured in the accident, and now believes his presence poses a danger to his loved ones. This one would be incredibly tragic, but sometimes a traumatic injury can cause a personality change like increased bouts of anger.

Even if these concerns were unfounded, I don't see Toichi as the kind of person who would take that risk with his family. Combined with concerns over the organization, it paints a bleak picture.

Option 3) Toichi is the series' main villain and a bad father. Just as his final message could've been a warning to Kaito against becoming KID, it could also be an invitation to inherit the role.

The adrenaline rush of a successful heist could have proved addicting, and Toichi could have used his assassation attempt to leave his shackles of responsibility behind. He could have graduated to an even more dangerous phantom thief persona.

Remember how there is 8 Night Baron books? One for each year since Toichi's supposedly death? And Yusaku has never revealed his identity, not even to his own son...

While I think this last scenario is the least likely, it would certainly be the most dramatic. It would force Kaito to rethink his whole career.

I had a thought --- You know how Conan and Haibara are also the "same age" as Anya and the Eden kids in spy x family? So hence here's Conan and Haibara in the Eden uniforms since I can allow myself to fantasise.

I don't know if this has been done before, but I like coai a very lot, they're my childhood. There's just something about their camaraderie and mutual trust that makes me so happy.

Even if they found him, there are 2 detectives who know he is harmless and potentially useful, is that enough to convince an FBI member and a detective wife/mother?

OBSESSED with the idea of KID coming into the Kudou mansion seeking refuge (either he got heavily injured or his idenity is compromised) but instead is met with Okiya Subaru, Kudou Yukiko, and Kudou Yusaku. (Conan is also there coincidentally because lady luck hasn't totally abandoned him yet, apparently, but Kaito is sort of distracted by the amount of non-conans in the house to appreciate it.)

one day (before akai moves in) conan drags kid's injured ass back into the kudou mansion to patch him up (and also to demand answers about the snipers in the heist)

kid refuses to tell more about the snipers and conan doesn't pry but keeps an offer of help open

it becomes an unspoken agreement that kid would go to conan if something out of his hand happens in relation to said snipers

by 'go to conan' conan meant go to him, the person, as in wherever location he was at. kid, on the other hand, thought he should come back to the kudou mansion.

months pass, subaru, yusaku, and yukiko come to occupy the kudou household.

kid, injured or identity compromised, sees the lights are on and assumes conan is inside. which well...he ISN'T WRONG (LOL)

kid goes in through the window of conan's room which startles conan who was there to pick something up in his room.

"What are you doing here?!" Conan scream-whispers in a panic.

KID stiffens and stares at him with something like betrayal in his eyes. "Oh, I see I'm not welcome here."

"No! No wait that's not what I meant. It's just, this is NOT the best time."

Someone knocks on the door and the two of them jump. KID's eyes widen in realization as Conan quickly drags and pushes him into a closet. "Don't make a sound." KID does a zipping motion across his lips and makes a show of throwing an imaginary key. Conan rolls his eyes at him before closing the door.

anyways, it was akai who went up to check on conan cause the 4 of them were in the middle of a discussion and conan was suspiciously taking too long.

whether kid gets caught by akai and the kudou fam or not, i have no idea, but either way I WANT IT.

although tbh i feel like akai and yusaku would sense someone else is inside and yusaku would know exactly who it is LOL

then again, whether kid is heavily injured, has his identity compromised, or both, is a big factor on how events will unfold. (and i love exploring each one so my brain is rotting pls someone send help)
