☾ - sleep headcanon

well, this one’s easy, they’re all sleep deprived :D

Tomboy Countess Ksenia actually used to have a very good sleep schedule, she’d wear herself out every day and go to bed and sleep like a log and jump up to do it again the next day; the Summit is stressful enough she doesn’t sleep as well and definitely requires extra tea every morning as she moans her way upright. 

Princess Theodora of Arland is too well trained not to get up with the sun; she doesn’t manage a proper lie-in until her honeymoon, tbqh, when Lyon introduces her to sleeping in. (He also introduces her to morning sex, but that is an entirely different ask and answer.)

One of the most difficult parts of getting married, for Nathalie of Revaire, was getting used to sleeping alone after her husband went back to his own room for the night. (She was used to sharing with her siblings, to never ever being alone, and now, she almost always was entirely isolated, and in the middle of the night it was cold and too quiet and she became prone to restless nights and nightmares. 

“Captain” Maristela of Hise developed the sailor/soldier knack of falling asleep whenever and wherever she could, because sometimes you only have that half an hour before something goes wrong, so you better take it.

Lady Hanako of Jiyel is a night owl. She hates mornings. Nothing should ever happen before noon unless you stayed up all the way around to get to it from the night before. 

Alessandra of Corval hates letting her guard down (reasonably enough, considering) and sleeps terribly if she doesn’t have a locked door (with the only key next to her) between her and the rest of the world.

/the Summit is not restful, on several levels

They’re all very happy post-Summit! No angst-monsters here! 

Theodora and Lyon build book forts, Hana and Hamin travel, Alessandra plots, (and her husband stays out of her way; she doesn’t marry any of the known NPCs, but she and Woodly stay in touch for the rest of his life), Ksenia loves Skalt almost as much as Ana, and Maristela realizes she doesn’t have to be either her mother’s heir OR her father’s daughter, but that she’s always been both, and that’s ok. (She and Cordelia have a lot in common, even if manifested in very different ways; they’re close for the rest of their lives.) Nathalie steals all her siblings away from her parents after she’s married, (and then also has children of her own) and is DELIGHTED ON SEVERAL LEVELS by both these things. No longer supporting her parents is perhaps a petty joy, but she loves it nonetheless.

Hello! I drew you for the 7KPP gift exchange and I wanted to check if you had any pinterest boards for your characters - a search of your blog suggests no, but I thought it was worth asking. Happy new year!

awww, I'm sorry I do not know how to pinterest. Well, I did attempt it for awhile, but I can't find my old account and I tried like, all the possible email addresses? It's very frustrating.

(I think I made an account under faejilly, which is the username I've got here and on twitter due to some attempted internet deleting many years ago, but that isn't actually *my email address* so someone else just keeps getting pinterest reset requests for me 😅. Whoops.)

15. Is your character preoccupied with money or material possession? Why or why not?

Nathalie of Revaire: Yes. Because obviously she needs them for her siblings, and her parents think they need more of them, and always more, and while she knows they’re wrong, she really didn’t like being cold and hungry down to her bones and is exceedingly desperate to avoid it happening again.

Ksenia of Wellin: Personally, not in the least, but she does want to make sure her people are taken care of, so she does her best to keep her lands as well run as possible; thus her susceptibility to Royal Blackmail.

16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?

Theodora of Arland: She is really quite startled to realize happiness, which isn’t something she knew about herself before the Summit. 

Maristela of Hise argues that happiness is success, and vice-versa, and that this is a stupid question.

Nathalie again is pro-success because of the whole POWER LEADS TO SECURITY mandate that is both her purpose and her kryptonite.

18. Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others?

Nathalie admires wisdom, but is half-convinced it’s all a lie, and has a much easier time understanding (and manipulating) ambition.

Theodora is pretty sure ambition has led to most of the sins of the world and finds it rather disgusting.

Hanako of Jiyel thinks they both, like all things, need to be understood and practiced in moderation; wisdom’s no good if it’s only in your head, and ambition can be great if it helps you achieve something worthwhile.

29. What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?

Hana mostly kept her dreams locked up tight in her head, so tight she didn’t even realize what most of them were, but she is DELIGHTED that she’s now realized she can go out and SEE all the things she used to just read about. Hamin is the dream come true that she never even realized she was dreaming about? (SHE IS UNEXPECTEDLY SAPPY OOPS.)

(On the kind of sappy continuation, Alessandra is just amazed to have found a partner, someone who can keep up with her and challenge her and have her back; it’s kind of disturbing that in one version of her that that person is Woodly, I am the first to admit, but that doesn’t make it less true.)
