Headcanon meme! for your 7kpp mc's: ☾ ☆ ☮
WHAT, all of them?!? You’re the worst. (ILU)
☾ - sleep headcanon
well, this one’s easy, they’re all sleep deprived :D
Tomboy Countess Ksenia actually used to have a very good sleep schedule, she’d wear herself out every day and go to bed and sleep like a log and jump up to do it again the next day; the Summit is stressful enough she doesn’t sleep as well and definitely requires extra tea every morning as she moans her way upright.
Princess Theodora of Arland is too well trained not to get up with the sun; she doesn’t manage a proper lie-in until her honeymoon, tbqh, when Lyon introduces her to sleeping in. (He also introduces her to morning sex, but that is an entirely different ask and answer.)
One of the most difficult parts of getting married, for Nathalie of Revaire, was getting used to sleeping alone after her husband went back to his own room for the night. (She was used to sharing with her siblings, to never ever being alone, and now, she almost always was entirely isolated, and in the middle of the night it was cold and too quiet and she became prone to restless nights and nightmares.
“Captain” Maristela of Hise developed the sailor/soldier knack of falling asleep whenever and wherever she could, because sometimes you only have that half an hour before something goes wrong, so you better take it.
Lady Hanako of Jiyel is a night owl. She hates mornings. Nothing should ever happen before noon unless you stayed up all the way around to get to it from the night before.
Alessandra of Corval hates letting her guard down (reasonably enough, considering) and sleeps terribly if she doesn’t have a locked door (with the only key next to her) between her and the rest of the world.
/the Summit is not restful, on several levels
☆ - happy headcanon
They’re all very happy post-Summit! No angst-monsters here!
Theodora and Lyon build book forts, Hana and Hamin travel, Alessandra plots, (and her husband stays out of her way; she doesn’t marry any of the known NPCs, but she and Woodly stay in touch for the rest of his life), Ksenia loves Skalt almost as much as Ana, and Maristela realizes she doesn’t have to be either her mother’s heir OR her father’s daughter, but that she’s always been both, and that’s ok. (She and Cordelia have a lot in common, even if manifested in very different ways; they’re close for the rest of their lives.) Nathalie steals all her siblings away from her parents after she’s married, (and then also has children of her own) and is DELIGHTED ON SEVERAL LEVELS by both these things. No longer supporting her parents is perhaps a petty joy, but she loves it nonetheless.
 ☮ - friendship headcanon
I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT ALPHA SPOILERS
uh
They all adore Cordelia & Penelope because I like them too much not to be polite and nice even when I have to do some finagling to make it fit their characters *laughs*

Rise
for @fyeah7kpp‘s Fictober Challenge!
I really wanted to write about bread with today’s prompt, possibly because I keep meaning to make some, but Theodora of Arland had other ideas.
Early to bed, early to rise...
It was one of the few habits her parents expected that had been easy for her.
Not that what she did with her early mornings would have met with their approval, but as long as she was quiet, and looked serious, and showed up whenever and wherever she was supposed to be all day, it never occurred to them to look at what she was reading every morning, curled up in the window seat of her bedroom.
Early morning light was her very favorite to read by, cooler than the afternoon light, which made the pages looks yellow, steadier than any flame, even that in a fine hurricane lantern or sconce, and her window was angled perfectly to insure the light fell clear upon the pages, rather than getting caught in her hair or fingers or sleeves the way it did in the room her Governess had used when she was younger.
She always had a respectable book or two by her side, and she read those, of course, the histories written by reputable Arland scholars, as if repute was more important than accuracy, and that was enough that they never noticed the novels and fairy tales, the travelogues, the philosophy, the few treatises from Jiyel that Constance had helped her collect.
Success at that, through the years, was enough that she felt brave enough to write her sister, after she was gone, and to hide the few letters she received back between the pages of her books, safe and sound, where she could pull them out and read them again, any morning she wanted.
(She had to slide them all between the pages of her mother’s favorite etiquette manual to get them to the Summit with her, but she wasn’t about to leave them behind.)
Her room on the Isle had the same cool steady morning light, and her very first morning there, she let her fingertips trail against the edges of Constance’s letters, and thought, maybe, maybe it really all would turn out all right.

@awaylaughing replied to your post Rise:
I am very glad Theodora and Lyon find one another - what/who started Theodora's love of reading? And why do her parents disprove of letters from and to Constance?
It’s not so much that they’d disapprove of letters from Constance, (though they might, she’s supposed to be making her new husband happy, that’s more important in their eyes than staying in touch with her little sister), as neither Constance nor Theodora want their letters read or censored, and that is very much the sort of the thing their parents would do.
Constance’s Governess was not quite as “proper” as their parents thought, and encouraged Constance in broadening her horizons, and luckily there’s a librarian who works for the Royal Family who helps Theodora continue the trend even after that first Governess and Constance are both gone. (I don’t know the librarian’s name? But she looks adorably mousy and is secretly quietly vicious when pushed into a corner. I may try and put her in a fic this month somewhere.)
But first I need to replay my Sheltered Princess and my Court Lady! For Research! /and also Zarad. :D

For the ship meme: Hana and Hamin or Theodora and Lyon!
BothIsGood.gif! [shipping meme]
who’s the werewolf and who’s the hunter
there’s something there about a pirate as a werewolf, recognized for being dangerous and not for being free, and how knowledge can be used to trap and find and control rather than uplift...
so uh, Hamin is a lovely beautiful werewolf and Hana is a surprisingly effective hunter for how waif-like she usually appears.
*
So apparently Jiyel is for Hunters? Lyon refuses to hunt people. Or things. Which he thinks are people even if no one else says so. He’s supposed to, obviously, but he won’t.
And there is something very satisfying about a Princess who is only recognized for a certain sort of value, always being locked up and looked at and never trusted, that resonates with the best sort of werewolf myths.
who’s the mermaid and who’s the fisherman
Hamin would be very angry if we didn’t let him be the sailor, and Hana is delighted at the thought of being able to swim everywhere and anywhere with the flick of her own shimmery tail.
*
Lyon dislikes this question immensely and refuses to cooperate.
Theodora wants to be a mermaid because that means Constance might get to be a mermaid too, some day, and that is such a better future for her than where she is right now.
who’s the witch and who’s the familiar
Hamin promises to be a very Nice Kitty and Never Interrupt while Hana is researching new spells.
(They both know he’s lying.)
*
Theodora isn’t even going to pretend, she will knock all Lyon’s books off all their shelves if he forgets to eat.
Again.
who’s the barista and who’s the coffee addict
Hamin makes everything except coffee just to make Hana yell. It’s hilarious.
(He knows he’s gone too far when she pours iced berry tea over his head. Everything is red for forever.)
*
There is not enough coffee in the world to keep Lyon up for as long as he thinks he ought to be able to stay up.
Theodora really does try to pour that much though, just for him. :D
who’s the professor and who’s the TA
I’m sorry, Lyon is already the professor, obviously. (And both adorable and supportive about it. I wish I’d had a few teachers like him.)
The other three are all TA’s, and are varying degrees of helpful and chaotic, depending on their moods. :D
who’s the knight and who’s the prince(ss)
Theodora never wants to be just a Princess ever again, and Hamin thinks Knights are deadly dull, so I think they’re going to run away and join the circus instead. (Hana is absolutely coming too.)
Lyon will begrudgingly agree to sit in the audience, but he quite enjoys supporting Theodora so no one quite falls for the grumpy face.
who’s the teacher and who’s the single parent
Oh no, any combination of them I’m tempted to think those poor children *laughs*
Lyon is a lovely teacher again though? I think he’d be patient with children in a way he refuses to be for adults who should know better. He is slightly better with the older kids who can engage in something more like a conversation though; Hana’s pretty great with the younger kids, she insists they all learn by playing as much as possible.
(I think I just made Hamin & Theodora both single parents? They put on brave faces for their kids, but they’re both very sad in the middle of the night when no one can see them. 😭)
who’s the writer and who’s the editor
Lyon is a very good editor. Hana & Theodora are both decent writers, Hamin refuses to take any suggestions ever about anything.
/but he also seldom writes, and prefers finding nice things and telling everyone else how brilliant his friends are for writing than doing it himself.

Day 11 of 7kpp Fictober: Theodora of Arland (I’m on a roll today!) realizing she does not know how to do things by halves. Kind of like a guy? Nope. Adore him beyond rhyme or reason after knowing him for less than three weeks?
Yep, that sounds about right.
But maybe, maybe she doesn’t have to be obvious about how far she’s willing to go? Maybe.
“Will you stay if I promise to behave?”
Theodora had meant to tease him. Lyon was part of why she had the nerve to tease now, unlike back home, before the Summit, before the Isle, before these people and this world, so different than her own.
She didn’t quite make it though, something too plaintive in her voice, and she realized that if he asked it of her, she would, she’d figure out what “behave” meant to him, to Jiyel, and she’d do it, completely, entirely, forever, just like she’d once thought she’d “behave” for Arland for her entire life.
It terrified her, that she’d throw away everything she’d started to learn these past three weeks, for him.
If he was who she thought he was, he wouldn’t ask her to, no, he wouldn’t let her...
Maybe let wasn’t the right word. He’d never stop her from doing what she decided to do, she thought. She hoped.
But she didn’t think he’d let her fall, and that’s what it would be, going back to Arland, to the way things used to be.
She didn’t want to fall.
She wanted someone to catch her, if she did, despite her best intentions.
She wanted to believe he was that someone.
And wasn’t the only to find out, to try?
She thought of Zarad’s face under the starlight, the melancholy he couldn’t quite hide when she accused him of being lonely, when she said he didn’t trust anyone.
She didn’t want that future.
She wanted this one, she thought, watching the way Lyon adjusted his long stride so as to keep beside her, rather than pulling ahead.
She wanted this.
She wanted him to be the man she thought he was.
She wanted him, for as long as she could have him.
She tried not to wonder if Constance had thought the same thing about her husband, back during her Summit, or if she’d always known...
Theodora let out a breath.
She couldn’t do anything for Constance right now, except this.
Except trust in something that might be better.
Trust in someone.
Trust in Lyon.
Trust that her own heart had chosen well.

Renown
This is actually from way back on day 9, but yk, whatever. It is what it is! [7kpp fictober list]
So the turning point for my Princess in terms of duty vs freedom, was actually very early in the Summit: the very first night was when she realized she didn’t have to be “The Arland Princess”, that in fact it might do more harm than good to rely on her family’s infamous reputation for propriety here on the Isle.
So, everything else that happens later? Is entirely thanks to Ana. ;)
Theodora pretended she couldn’t feel the tremble in her fingers as she stood still, just a breath or two to herself, as she first walked into the welcome feast at the Isle.
However terrified she was, she did, in fact, know what she was supposed to do, and how to do it. Be polite, be quiet, speak when spoken to, over and over until it was time to eat.
She wouldn’t have to talk while she was eating, she could manage to be conveniently chewing at all the wrong moments if she needed a break.
She just had to make it to dinner.
The Princess of Skalt came up to her, and Theodora did what she knew was right, she dipped into the courtesy of equals, Princess to Princess, and spoke as politely as she knew how.
And the Princess of Skalt hated it.
She didn’t say so, of course, but Theodora felt the slight wrinkle across Princess Anaele’s brow before the frown was wiped away into a smile again.
Theodora knew that not everyone was as strict in their manners as she was, that not everyone had to be so careful, but she had believed that it was her duty... They might be more familiar with each other, but they’d be offended by such a thing coming from her.
Wouldn’t they?
But if she kept being so formal with the Princess of Skalt, who it was terribly important she make a good impression on, as one of the few other royal heirs here at the Summit...
She’d lose.
She couldn’t alienate the head of the Skalt delegation on the very first night!
There was a gaping chasm in Theodora’s chest, panic waiting to overwhelm her, if she wasn’t supposed to do what she’d been told to do, what else was there?
But then Anaele asked if there was something else to call her, something less of a mouthful than ‘Princess Theodora’ and... she had an answer to that.
It wasn’t what her parents would have told her to say, but...
It was what Constance called her.
She felt the urge to smile at the thought of her sister, and she knew exactly what to say.
More importantly, perhaps, she knew how to say it. She let the smile she usually reserved for Constance slip free, warmer than any she’d ever risked at a formal occasion, and felt her spine straighten just a little, felt her shoulders loosen.
“You can call me Dora, if you prefer.

7kpp fictober day 10: Theodora of Arland vs The Summit
so if “renown” was right as the welcome feast began, this is during... and the not so fun after.
Theodora commits, then and there, while talking to Princess Anaele... no. Dora commits, while talking to Ana. She cannot be unaware of how her parents have trained her to behave, but this... this is more important than their expectations, this is about everyone’s future, not just hers.
She gives in to that thought, more impulse than a conscious plan, and lets herself go. She looks at each new person she meets, looks at how they stand and how they talk, how they lean towards the people around them, how they look around the rest of the feast, how they look at her, what they say and how they say it, and takes every ounce of experience she has watching her parents’ Court to help her interpret it. (Watching only, never participating, and now she wonders why, why she’s stuck like this, so far away from who she needs to be, for this, when all she needed was a little more give... but that doesn’t matter now, it doesn’t matter what she had or what they did, only what she can do with who she is, right now.)
She offers her respects to most of the Chaperones, to their countries, to their interests, and thinks she succeeds. (The Grand Duke of Wellin catches her eye, and dismisses her with a flick of his own, and she lets him, and decides there’s only so much that can be expected of her on her first day.)
She sees how stiff the Prince of Wellin holds himself, and and speaks to him as she always wished people would dare to speak to her, at home, and he smiles.
She offers Princess Penelope comfort, rides the terror of Hamin of Hise’s brash laugh and pretends she likes this adventure she’s embarked upon, pretends so hard she almost believes it.
(And yet she’s desperately relieved to fall back on comforting formality with Princess Cordelia, a break where she can breathe, and do what is familiar, what is safe, and be greeted with the same in return. She falls a little bit in love, right then and there, with the one other person here who seems to speak the same language she does, the language she’d been told her whole life was the only one she’d ever need to know.)
Prince Zarad sweeps her into a dance, and she calls him every insulting name she can think of, with a smile on her face. (She means them, every one, and hates him a little on behalf of the girl she was just a few minutes ago, before Ana, before Cordelia, who would have burst into tears and had her entire Summit ruined for one madcap young man’s whim. He bows her away again, a glint of respect in his eyes, and she wonders at how fragile Constance’s life must be, caught in the Corvali Court surrounded by men like that. And worse.)
She greets Crown Prince Jarrod, because she must, and the grip of his hand makes her realize how much worse could get. Because this is cruelty, and selfish caprice, and she is afraid.
She almost flees when she gets the chance. She manages to hide her desire to retreat, but she cannot make herself brave Princess Gisette’s cold eyes.
And maybe, maybe she can see how Zarad’s greeting was a test, a way to see if she had what it took to survive the next seven weeks now, rather than waiting ‘til later when the consequences would still be worse.
She hates herself almost as much as him, that she thinks she’s already forgiven him for it.
Lord Clarmont puts her more at ease than she thought possible, after that, and she stood up with Prince Zarad, with Clarmont behind her she can stand up for Penelope too, can’t she?
(She can, she almost doesn’t believe it, and the Theodora in the back of her thoughts is screaming, terror and shock and worry, but Dora smiles, and keeps going.)
Lady Avalie is beautiful and smooth, as flawless as porcelain and gold, and Dora wonders if there’s a way to be more like that, when she grows up a little more.
And Duke Lyon...
He lets her talk about the past, rather than making her worry about the present or the future, and she hopes she gets the chance to talk to him again.
She saves the Earl for last, her sweetly remembered Emmett, the one friend she hopes she has just for herself, and it’s more difficult than she expected not to throw herself into his arms and cling to the one spot of comfort here in this horrifying new stage of her life.
But she doesn’t, and he smiles, and she smiles back, and maybe they’ll both survive the next seven weeks, as long as they help each other through the days.
And Dora smiles, and smiles, and makes it through dinner, and back to her room, and it’s only when she’s finally behind her closed door, curled up in every blanket she can find, that she lets Theodora out again, eyes dry but burning, body shaking so hard she’s surprised to realize she’s still in one piece when she wakes up the next morning.

Hello! I drew you for the 7KPP gift exchange and I wanted to check if you had any pinterest boards for your characters - a search of your blog suggests no, but I thought it was worth asking. Happy new year!
awww, I'm sorry I do not know how to pinterest. Well, I did attempt it for awhile, but I can't find my old account and I tried like, all the possible email addresses? It's very frustrating.
(I think I made an account under faejilly, which is the username I've got here and on twitter due to some attempted internet deleting many years ago, but that isn't actually *my email address* so someone else just keeps getting pinterest reset requests for me 😅. Whoops.)
BUT, I do have both a general #7kpp tag and one per character:
#Nathalie of Revaire
#Maristela of Hise
#Alessandra of Corval
#Theodora of Arland
#Hanako of Jiyel
#Ksenia of Wellin
(You could also just check out the #jilly plays with dolls or #fashion or #did I mention pretty? for what little of my aesthetic shines through. 😅😅😅)
You can also of course check out my fic (AO3) to see what I've done myself? I guess?
And feel free to throw more questions in the inbox, I'm here pretty consistently. 🥰

2020 Fic Masterpost
I started and ended the year with my beloved #7kpp, which I know doesn’t mean a lot to most of you, but the thought makes me smile. ❤ I also posted a lot of Shadowhunters, (so many fairy tale riffs), a couple bits for BioWare (including the ten-years-in-the-making finale of my Adelaide Hawke/Sebastian Vael ficlet collection), and even one entirely new-to-me fandom in a The Old Guard gift!fic. Whee!
Most of them are very short, ficlets and flash fiction, which wasn’t the goal going into this year, but... this year broke a lot of people’s plans, didn’t it? And there are some lovely words in there, (hopefully short & sweet!), so... All in all, not that terrible for a year of apocalypses.

5, 6, 11?
So, honestly, I could answer all three of these with Adelaide/Sebastian as Adelaide quite refuses to be interested in anyone besides Sebastian, and I write a lot of fluff, but oh gosh when they’re miserable they’re at 110% miserable. (They’re so pretty when they’re pining in anguish though. So pretty.)
I feel that that would get a little repetitive though, so uh. In second place?
5. What is your most fluffy + happy ship?
Uh. Everyone in 7kpp? LIKE, I could figure out angsty sections of their lives for all of them, but mostly it is just an endless parade of joy and glee and adorable and me making happy squee noises. (IT IS SUCH A SATISFYING GAME ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT HOW NOT TO DIE OR GET SENT HOME IN DISGRACE. I HIGHLY REC STORY MODE FOR THAT REASON. SUCH JOY.)
Especially ... hmm. Theodora of Arland/Lyon of Jiyel Because Pillows and Book Forts and Hana of Jiyel/Hamin of Hise Because Adventure and Sunsets.
6. What is your most angsty ship?
Erana Lavellan/Solas. For all the reasons in game, but also because she broke her heart on Warden!Blackwall and also because she lost her family piece by piece before the game and just. HER LIFE IS WORSE THAN HAWKE’S DURING DA2 YOU GUYS.
I am sorry darling. You deserved better. (And you get it, eventually, though no one else knows how because I keep not writing your epilogue.)
11. What is a character you can only imagine in one particular ship?
Guinevere Pettigrew/Joe Blumfield in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Anne Elliot/Frederick Wentworth Persuasion
Can we tell both that I need to do a rewatch of those and also that I am living a #Ciaran Hinds Appreciation Life lately?

14 and 16 for Theodora of Arland?
AHH! 7KPP!
14: Pet peeves. Tell us what would really tick them off. Do they have a Berserk Button?
OH!
Well. Mistreating a book.
Post-Summit, once she’s embraced the challenges and discovered her own spine, it would be anyone interrupting her. (Or interrupting some quiet polite young lady, because goodness, she knows how hard it is for girls like that to start to speak up.) She will eviscerate you. Politely and quietly and with a terribly potent sort of condescension in her voice.
16: What are concepts they value? Virtues? What do they look down upon?
Well. She is still from Arland, so honesty, duty, responsibility. She just realizes that her definition of these things might be very different from her parents’ or even her sister’s. She’s a lot more like Constance than she ever realized growing up.
She looks down most stringently upon any sort of petty cruelty or selfish manipulation. She finds the Revaire siblings and Woodly (and even Jaslen’s apparent and clearly purposeful flightiness) incredibly appalling.
She is a little surprised by how much she respects Zarad ... his charade is entirely self-deprecating, however, and he is clearly invested in some sort of higher purpose. Plus there’s something in his voice when he answers her questions about Constance; he’s clearly a much better man than he lets anyone see, and there is compassion there that she desperately needed to know could exist in Corval.

Theodora of Arland told Lyon that books were the only thing she’d learned that were real ... I think it’s very important that she and her Duke never go back to visit her parents or Lyon will do something to express his disdain for their version of “shelter” and cause an international incident and even if they kind of deserve it, Theodora doesn’t.
Also I will never stop cackling over I do not find you intolerable.
Ah Lyon, so smooth and romantic. *snickers*
(Look! I managed to play someone not Nathalie. I’m so proud of me. I do love my actual literal Princess, it’s nice to see her again. And her AU is ALSO SUPER LOVELY because she takes her sister’s letter and Jasper’s support to heart and steps away entirely from her family and chooses neither marriage nor romance AND I AM SO PROUD OF HER. BB!girl all grown up. It’s all thanks to Anaele too, because that first greeting at the opening feast is so outside Theodora’s every range of expectation and experience that she realizes the whole Summit could be ... something else than what her life had been before.)
so hey look, I managed Sheltered Princess feels this time!
(also hey there, good morning tumblr, I apparently have decided to give up on adulthood and the holidays and just keep replaying the demo/alpha build for the REST OF MY LIFE. seems like a good plan, really.)
