DAWN’S BETA IS OUT!

I’ve been writing and refining this for at least 3 years now, and I intend for this to be the final major update before releasing the game in full. I’ve got a ton of things to say about this update but if you just want a link to the game it'll be below.

For those who know nothing about it: DAWN is a Battle Shonen (a subgenre of anime and manga) inspired tactical TTRPG that I’ve been developing since I started my last major release (Star And City 2E).

I consider it the result of everything I’ve learned with writing and game design, it has the most collaborators I’ve had on any project, and it’s a product I’m incredibly proud of. Also, its precursor, Advent Dawn, was the first game I ever posted on Itch.

I want to note that this version is in no way complete, and should be read as such. There's the obvious missing art and text to start (which I’ve marked with a WIP image).

This version will likely have issues, as this is the first time this version has been shown publicly. Despite this, I’ve done as much as I can with my limited testing, I feel the book is a presentable and enjoyable product for any who’re interested in it.

I’ve also started a Itch funding tracker that’ll be active for the first 2 weeks because this update is a big deal to me and I want to see how much support I can get for the final release. I appreciate any support you give because of it, but don’t feel pressured to.

You may know I already ran a Kickstarter campaign for DAWN, this is why I haven’t set up any rewards for this itch funding, as I feel it would devalue the support I got on that initial KS, I just like to see numbers go up.

I can’t express how much I appreciate any amount of support. If you're interested in testing the game there’ll be a Discord link in the document that you can use to find my community, where I’ll be trying to test the game at least weekly and answer any questions asked.

🌺 Wild Advent: Spring Awakening🌺

After much deliberation, Wild Advent has relaunched! It's been split into 4 seasonal campaigns, starting with Spring! Which includes my Wisteria Deer design! Check it out! 🌺

I'm happy to say we've already blown past the first goal (the first three designs) and are now working towards the first set of stretch goal designs! And then after that there's a few new designs so do have a look :D

It's always rough relaunching a KS that didn't go as expected the first time but we think simplifying and splitting thing into bite-sized chunks will help a lot. :) I feel confident about the designs at least!

If you're wondering where the other designs from the OG campaign went - those will return in their own Seasonal themed mini campaigned! So in three months or so the Summer campaign will launch and so forth. <3

Hi I missed KakaSaku month this year and won't have time to write for KakaSaku week. Will there be any other KakaSaku events this year? Also, I can't seem to find who hosted KS month?

Hi! There was no KakaSaku month this year. This blog used to belong to the server that ran KakaSaku Month 2021 and was repurposed for this year’s KakaSaku Week.

As for future events, there are plans for things in 2024, but the mod for this event also runs the @multisaku-advent-calendar, so that will be the rest of the focus for 2023.

Sadly, many Christians greet others in this Advent season with, “Happy Holidays,” as a way not to offend. Yet 25 December is a holiday, not in spite of Christ but, precisely because of Christ. Rejoice! In the incarnation, God entering human flesh to redeem us, whatever Christ had by nature we now have by grace.

Have we lost the intense joy of the incarnation? It is life-giving, not just in the lives of believers, but for the whole world. It is a joy that should echo across time. From the moment the Angel Gabriel gave voice to the words, “Hail, full of grace” (Luke 1:28 DRB) God is accomplishing our salvation. Thank you, Mary, and Merry Christmas indeed.

Despite an at times ho-hum response, the incarnation changed the world. Because of the incarnation, the Angels recognize the Sacramental Grace that fills each of us. Filled with grace, like the blessed Virgin Mary, will each of us say “yes” to God’s will? Will we give birth to Jesus in the approaching Christmas season? That is our task!

Throughout the Middle Ages in northern Europe, the Church called today’s Mass the “Golden Mass.” In the Liturgy, the Gospel was acted out in parts, much the same way that the passion is proclaimed on Good Friday. It was a Solemn High Mass, often lasting three or four hours with music and preaching to give full sway to the joy of the mystery proclaimed at the Annunciation. (O’Brien 7) The “Golden Mass” would often include the giving of letters to Mass participants written with gold leaf announcing the incarnation. What a beautiful reminder of the precious words Gabriel gave to Mary, and she accepted with her Fiat. (Luke 1:38)

The Church proclaims in the Gospel today, the words of the Angel Gabriel as St Jerome translated them, “Hail, full of grace!” This is despite the more literal translation of, “Hail, favored one” found in many translations of the Bible. This literal translation loses the full significance of Gabriel’s words. The Greek, charitŏō (χαριτόω), means gifted or graced with “super-high” favor. Unfortunately, modern language translations do not do the Greek justice. That is why St. Jerome rightly uses “gratia plena,” “full of grace,” to capture the full meaning of the Angels’ greeting.

Imagine the effect the words of the Annunciation must have had on Mary; “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” The words state a fact. God’s grace is preexistent in Mary. The angel does not say you will be filled with grace as an event that lies in the future, that through the gift of God in Mary’s womb, she “will be” somehow sanctified. Grace is already present in Mary. Nor does the angel say you are touched by grace, as if Mary’s significance is found only in the gift of the Christ Child, but that she is already “full” of Grace. God’s gift of His divine life already filled Mary’s every fiber. Grace precedes and is full. God never does anything in a small way.

Mary, God’s perfect vessel, with her “yes” gave the world Jesus, our Savior, our Redeemer, our Way, our Truth, our Life. The incarnation is the greatest event in human history and at that moment, only Mary knew it had even happened. The Messiah has arrived, fully God and fully man to save the world. It is truly the first act of His passion. Love comes down. That is what the “Golden Mass” so beautifully celebrated. God comes to Mary, a vessel specially prepared, and at her “yes” fills her with His divinity.

Just five days before Christmas, the Angel Gabriel comes to us as well in the Gospel. What will you say? Mass makes present the grace of the mysteries it celebrates. We do not just remember an event, we experience it. Through the Word proclaimed today, God makes a proposal to you and I in the same way He offered Mary an invitation. Through the Sacraments we too are vessels specially prepared that God may dwell in us, filling us with grace. He comes to us in seeming obscurity, as He came to Mary, with an offer to participate in the great story of salvation. Will you reply, “yes, come Lord Jesus?” If so, the Kingdom of God is just a little closer such that we celebrate not just, “the Holidays,” but Christ’s Mass. God has come, is here, and will come again.

Mother Mary help us to accept the invitation God sends us. Help us to respond just as you did, with your joyful “yes!” “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you!” Come our Christmas!

Learning to listen to him “Zechariah was overwhelmed, and fear seized him. The angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been answered: your wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son for you”. (Lk 1, 12)

“Ah, the Lord is so good to me that it is impossible for me to fear Him, always He has given me what I have desired, or rather He has made me desire what He wanted to give me.” (Ms C 31)

I’m taking the time today to listen to the deepest desires of my heart, and I’m asking Jesus for them this Christmas.

Our Father Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Advent 2024: With the Little Flower

Day 20 – “Behold the handmaid of the Lord” “Then Mary said: ‘Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word'” (Lk 1:38).

“Oh, I love you, Mary, calling yourself the handmaid of the God you redeem through your humility. This hidden virtue makes you all-powerful, drawing the Holy Trinity into your heart. Then the Spirit of Love covering you with his shadow, the Son equal to the Father in you became incarnate…” (Pn 54, 4)

I seize the opportunity to be of service to my fellow man in a selfless gesture of brotherhood.

1. New concom member:

We are happy to welcome our new concom member, starshiplillian, who will support the team in Registrations, Logistics, and Communications. If you've been to one of our Pub Nights before, then you already know Lillian. Her bio on Conline claims that she is "several unionized lizards disguised as a functional concom member", but (while we won't dispute the unionized lizards, on the grounds of awesomeness) we can tell you that she is also the librarian of the U.S. branch of the K/S Zine Library and in the process of preparing the relaunch of this branch. 2. Upcoming deadline: Con Zine!

If you want to submit your fic, art, poetry, meta to the KiScon zine, here's your friendly reminder that the deadline of 1 August is soon upon us! For submissions and also any and all questions about the zine, please get in touch with our editor Carleen: kszinesubs @ gmail.com.

3. KiScon Discord (“KiScord”):

Avid readers of our newsletters might ask how many more times we will dedicate a paragraph to our KiScon Discord server. The answer is easy: as many times as necessary to get y'all to join it. It really is important that our con attendees use and are comfortable with Discord; it is not "just another social media platform", but a vital tool for the online convention.

We have a walkthrough with many screenshots (pdf) that you can download from our website. This document explains to you all the steps of creating a Discord account and joining the KiScon server. After creating your account and joining the server, don't forget to accept the #rules by clicking the emoji with the Vulcan salute – it will automagically make the various channels of the server appear. 1lostone is always happy to help you with any and all technical questions: 1lostone @ kiscon . org

Art show / auction:

A virtual con means a virtual art show, but we want it to be as glorious as in person. This fandom is rich in talent and creativity, and we hope to showcase a great variety at KiScon 2022. This year's art show will be presented via a slideshow vid that will be accessible all throughout the convention weekend, much like an exhibition in the Rec Room. You can submit both digital art and traditional art (paintings, drawings/prints, but also three-dimensional artworks like sculptures, amigurumi, fibre craft, jewellery etc.); traditional artworks and physical items need to be either scanned or photographed. The show itself is purely digital and welcomes pieces from all K/S fans, not only registered con attendees. Please submit your artworks or the scans/photos of your artworks via this form. Deadline: 1 October 2022. Good-quality files in jpg or png format (300 dpi) are recommended. Please include your exact artist name and the title of your works, plus any kind of information (e.g. medium, year of creation) that you would like us to mention. The artworks do not need to have been created for the convention, but can be as old or new as they come.  If you would like to not only show your art but also offer it for sale in the auction, please make sure to tell us for each artwork you submit and include the starting bid. In the case of digital art, the winning bid will then get a very high-res file of the work (to set it apart from the version featured in the vid and auction catalogue). In the case of traditional art you will send it to the buyer in its physical form. The online format of KiScon 2022 does not make it possible for us to organise the actual exchange of money for art; it would not be feasible for us to store the physical artworks and send them across the globe to the winning bidders. This is also why we will not take any commission this year! We'll gladly help buyers and artists to keep track of all purchases and match you up with contact details, and we will keep a watchful eye on the process to ensure fairness and accountability, but each buyer is ultimately responsible for transferring the money to the artist, and each artist for making sure the artwork gets safely delivered to the buyer.  If you would like to dedicate one of your auctioned artworks or a percentage of it to this year's charity (to be voted on during the con), to the support of KiScon itself, or to Ukraine, please let us know at the time of submitting the artwork. Artworks submitted by their artists for auction will not only be in the art show vid, but also featured in an auction catalogue / gallery that will be part of the digital goodie bag each con attendee receives via Conline. Should you want to offer an artwork or item in the auction that you have not created yourself, for example something that you once bought for your collection but now would like to send to a good new home, then it will only be featured in the auction catalogue / gallery, not in the slideshow vid, as we cannot ascertain the permission of the artist. Joy abounds on the USS Enterprise during the holiday season, and Jim was no exception to the rule—until recently. Now, the man is hiding some kind of pain, and Spock is determined to discover the source and help his ashayam through it.

One quick note about the fic (written for @foxyfoxyk)  it’s in 4 parts, hopefully posted fairly quickly. I go on holidays on the 22nd, so I should be able to actually do things then. 1000 apologies for the fact that it’s currently a WIP. My goal is to get it finished for the 25th, or at the absolute latest, the 31st!  Thanks to @justelliey for the beta and @jlm121 for the everything!
