It's honestly such a shame that we've made such a huge thing out of swimming and swimsuits and looking good in swimsuits and fat people not looking good in swimsuits. Swimming is actually the perfect exercise for fat people because it puts zero pressure on the joints, which is a much bigger concern for us than it is for skinny people, and lets you exercise basically every muscle group without straining too much and risking injury. Yet somehow this is one of the least accessible exercises to fat people due to nothing more than a culture of body shaming. The work to unlearn all the shame to be comfortable in a bathing suit in front of strangers is huge even for conventionally attractive people, but I could probably count on one hand the number of fat people I've met who were confident enough to get in a bathing suit and go swimming in public.
And what is the exercise that somehow everyone thinks they should do instead? Jogging. It's more accessible, sure, it's easy and costs nothing to go outside and run. But I need you to understand telling a fat person to go running is basically telling them to go destroy their knees. Not to mention it's probably one of the most physically uncomfortable exercises to do when you have a body that jiggles even with compression garments.
Imagine a world where everyone had the ability and equal access to whatever exercise fit them best and helped them be happy and healthiest. Imagine a world where fat people go swimming.

"I assumed as a teenager that the belief in the 'sanctity of all human life,' embryos included, was something that went back hundreds of years. After all, the Bible was being used to defend this stance, and it was over a thousand years old. But even in the Catholic church, which is assumed to be both anti-birth control and anti-choice, the firm anti-choice stance came only in the 19th century with Pope Pius IX’s 1869 decision that abortion was a sin that would result in excommunication. For most of the prior centuries, the official word on abortion was that it was only a sin after quickening, or when fetal movement was first felt, which usually happens somewhere between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. Catholics believed that a fetus was 'ensouled' at this point, a belief that was introduced by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century, who thought that the fetus gained a soul not at conception, but 40 to 80 days later. The modern evangelical movement, rooted in masculinity and nationalism, also began to develop in the late 19th century, leading to their emergence as a political constituency in the 1970s."
In this latest release, Sara Mount offers some important history of anti-abortion beliefs that is often overlooked and forgotten in the United States. This piece follows Sara on her very deliberate path of unlearning the rhetoric she grew up with that "characterizes all people who obtain abortions as young, childless, and promiscuous". Sara details her path as long and ongoing, and proposes an alternative narrative to the one she heard in her youth.

"hurts because i need to move more" and "hurts because i need to not move it at all" should really be different sensations. i should be able to troubleshoot my own body without just picking one and seeing if that makes it worse.

with queer identity, it's important to accept that people with very similar experiences might find completely different language useful to describe their experiences. a person who thinks "other people are sexy, but I don't want to actually have sex with them" might feel their identity is best understood and/or communicated as a sex-repulsed allosexual, or as an aegosexual, under the ace spectrum. or, as just asexual, as a convenient umbrella term. or maybe, with an unlabeled sexual orientation. or maybe, just as queer. or maybe as a different thing altogether.
there are gray areas between all of the options above, as well as gray areas between so many other labels, but that's a feature, not a bug. the only important details are what's useful to the questioning person, who's trying to understand, take pride in, and/or communicate their identity. you do not need to place yourself in a box, but "box" is hardly even the right word to begin with — it does not have defined and concrete boundaries, nor are other people in the box the only people that you'll have things in common with. I promise, if you haven't done so already, getting comfortable with subjective labels and overlapping experiences is one of the most freeing things you can experience as a queer person.

in all seriousness it's very alienating knowing theres Something Wrong With You. like seeing your mental illness come through in your behaviour and thought processes and knowing it's irrational and unhealthy, knowing other people are reading you as weird or stupid, and not being able to do anything about it is such a lonely experience

possession horror where the thing possessing the autistic character causes them to behave in a more neurotypical way. autistic possession horror where the thing inside you is easier to communicate with than you are, the thing inside you doesn’t have a flat affect, the thing inside you doesn’t let your body stim, the thing inside you is how you were told to behave and you can only do it when you are no longer you. autistic possession horror where you will never forget that everyone liked it better than you before they found out something was controlling you. autistic possession horror where they know what’s inside you isn’t you and debate whether it would be easier for everyone to leave you like this anyway. you agree. reblog.

All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.

They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
Tumblr media
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Tumblr media
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.

And it's BEAUTIFUL

Looking at restaurant menus to figure out what I want for lunch when my sister and I go, and I'm Rachel Phoebe and Joey in The One With Five Steaks and an Eggplant. Is this cheaper with less stuff on it. Side salad, next my water. Cup of cucumber mush, take care.
