EmmaTravisKristin throuple save me... save me Emma being the middle spoon... all three of them piled into a shitty motel bed... Travis making breakfast while Emma and Kristin sleep in... cuddles when one of them has a nightmare... Kristin spoiling them and joking that they're her sugar babies...
Yeah that’s the move for them honestly. They all deserve it, as a little treat

“There are no monsters. Only people.”
Character: Simon Gutmunsson from None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney (and also Kristen, I guess, technically, in the window)
I have seen basically no fandom (especially current) for this book which makes me sad because I’ve been obsessed with it since I read the first book last year and I just found time to read the second one and oh my god. Just oh my god. I can’t wait for the third one.
Bonus “trust the process” drawings under the cut lmao

None Shall Sleep Halloween Costumes!!
It's that time of year again y'all.
Emma and Travis dressed as Sherlock and Watson. Or Travis dressed as a mailman and Emma dressed as a love letter. OMG Travis and Emma as Wesley and Buttercup from the princess bride.
Emma and Kristin matching... Emma as Gomez and Kristin as Morticia.
Simon and Travis dressed as Jack and Ennis from brokeback mountain... no I will not elaborate.
Simon and Kristin dressed as Dexter and Debra Morgan. Simon in Dexter's murder getup. Kristin would absolutely be slaying in Debra's police uniform. Or Kristin dressed as Bo Peep and Simon as the lamb lol.
Group costumes... Alice in wonderland. Emma as Alice of course. Travis as the white rabbit. Kristin as the Queen of Hearts. Simon as, who else, the Mad Hatter.
Supernatural group costume save me... Simon as Dean, Kristin as Sam, Travis as Castiel and Emma as Crowley.
SALTBURN. Emma as Oliver, Travis as Farleigh, Simon as Felix and Kristin as Venetia.
SCOOBY GANG. Not sure who would be who tho.
Barbie movie group costume. Again not sure who would be who.
@dumbleb33 Happy Halloween!

Oh I've thought about this a lot.
I feel like Simon could die because every other serial killer who has encountered Emma has also died.
Also putting him back in jail seems anticlimactic, and he already has the death penalty so him getting arrested would just mean he dies. It would also be ✨super tragic✨ to make Kristin lose him.
OR I feel like Kristin could die and Simon will be forced to live without her for the sake of ✨tragedy✨
Or they BOTH die because ✨tragedy✨ like they both get shot by the cops OR one dies and the other commits suicide because they can't live without each other.
Honestly I really don't see Emma dying because she's worked so hard to recover from her trauma I think it would be really unsatisfying for her to just die. And when it comes to the idea of Travis dying, it just doesn't feel like it would make sense for the story, but idk anything is possible.
I'm so nervous but so excited.
okay get real chat which of the core 4 do u think are dying in all shall mourn

Review: All Shall Mourn by Ellie Marney Rating: 4/5
Simon Gutmunsson is on the run and he's taken his sister with him. To lure him back to the US, the FBI need Emma Lewis, the only other person Simon seems to care about, and her partner, Travis Bell. Lewis and Bell said they were done with the FBI. But Simon Gutmunsson cannot be the one that got away... It's been a long time since I followed a series as it was released. I've become the kind of person who buys the books as they come out and then reads them when they're all done. But None Shall Sleep was the bright spot in a very long COVID lockdown and as soon as I finished it I knew I wanted more.
Emma Lewis remains one of my favourite female characters of all time. She's tenacious and caring and self-sufficient and it's been an absolute pleasure to get to know her during this series. But I feel like this book was more about Travis, whom I also love, but am slightly less invested in. I just struggled to connect with his personal journey.
I also really struggled with how much travel there was in the story. So much time was spent hopping from one place to the other, always with new background characters to introduce, and I feel that really took away from the pace and the opportunity to dig deeper into the characters' emotional states. I also would've really loved to keep seeing Simon and Kristin's point of view like we had in the first few chapters.
Because Simon and Kristin. Oh, my dears. You clever, horrible creatures, you. I always had certain inklings about these two, especially Kristin, and it was thrilling to have some of those inklings finally confirmed. But again, the repercussions of those confirmations were never quite dug into enough for my taste.
But as series finales go, All Shall Mourn was just the ticket. It's a fast-paced cat-and-mouse thriller that shows the characters, both good and evil, at their very best and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion.
If you want a YA mystery series that will drop your jaw and turn your stomach, All Shall Mourn releases in paperback February 5th 2025 and is available for ebook preorder now.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Some Shall Break by Ellie Marney
"Emma gives Kristin her other hand, because she's right, they're still girls. But she isn't sure what that signifies anymore, except that girls are the ones who always end up victimized, abused, tortured, dead. What the advantages of manicured nails might be in those circumstances, she really can't imagine."
Year Read: 2024
Rating: 4/5
Thoughts: I liked this a little more than None Shall Sleep, I think because I was vibing more with the murder case. The similarities to the killer Emma escaped are eerie and personal, and it makes the novel that much more frightening. It's a little slow to take off, wallowing a bit in changing locations and police politics, but once it starts digging into the current murder case, I was hooked. I also cannot, for the life of me, tell a single cop character in this novel apart. There are half a dozen named and described, and they all just run together into one faceless mass.
On the other hand, the main characters are delightful as always. I've always enjoyed the slowburn of Travis and Emma's bond (a hint of romance but nothing too off-putting for non-romance readers), and Emma's trauma gets a spotlight here as the current case brings up old memories of Huxton. I also really liked seeing more of Kristin in this book. She reminds me of Luna Lovegood (sweet, blonde, underestimated, a little spacey) if she happened to have a serial killer for a brother.
I feel a little bad because I know these books are primarily about the survivors, not the murderers--and Marney goes to great lengths to portray Emma's trauma realistically--but I am never as riveted as when Simon Gutmunsson is on the page. He's teenage Hannibal Lecter stealing the show, commanding attention, and generally sending chills down my spine. I'm a sucker for a great fictional serial killer, and he's easily one of my favorites for YA horror. I loved the ending of this book; it's tense and terrifying, and I'm so excited the series will be rounded out as a trilogy.

Blog Tour: Top 5 Reasons to Read SOME SHALL BREAK by Ellie Marney! #tbrbeyondtours
Welcome to Book-Keeping and my stop on the TBR and Beyond Tours blog + bookstagram tour for Some Shall Break by Ellie Marney, the sequel to 2020’s breakout hit None Shall Sleep! I absolutely loved the first book and this follow-up, and below you’ll find my top 5 reasons to read the series!
About the Book
title: Some Shall Break (None Shall Sleep #2) author: Ellie Marney publisher: Little, Brown release date: 6 June 2023
This sequel to the New York Times bestselling None Shall Sleep is an equally electrifying, chilling thriller that brings us back into the lives of junior FBI consultants Travis Bell and Emma Lewis with a new case that may unravel everything they’ve been working for.
After a harrowingly close contact with juvenile sociopath Simon Gutmunsson, junior FBI consultants Emma Lewis and Travis Bell went their separate ways: Emma rejected her Quantico offer and Travis stayed to train within a new unit of the FBI Behavioral Science division. But the unit’s latest case is feeling eerily familiar and Kristin Gutmunsson—Simon Gutmunsson’s eccentric twin—reaches out to Travis to send a warning: Emma is in peril. When Travis and Kristin turn up evidence that points back to Daniel Huxton, the serial killer that Emma had escaped, things become more complicated. With a copycat on the loose, Emma returns to Quantico and is thrown back into her past traumas. Compelled to prevent more tragedy—even if it means putting herself in danger—Emma turns to Simon for help once again. But Simon is keeping secrets that could impact their entire investigation. Will the team be able to stop the Huxton copycat before time runs out for his next victims?
Content Warning: Murder, gore, trauma, sexual assault, sexism, violence, drug use, racism

Top 5 Reasons to Read
I must admit I’m kind of glad this isn’t a traditional review because I’d just be gushing incoherently about how freaking much I loved Some Shall Break (and its predecessor, None Shall Sleep). So instead of rambling, let me give you my top 5 reasons to read this incredible series!
1. The early 1980s setting had me nostalgic for my childhood! Granted, I was only 7 in 1982, but I loved all the little references to things I remember from that time - songs, fashion, cars, etc.
2. I loved getting a (fictional) peek inside the beginnings of the FBI’s now-famed Behavioral Science Unit, which quickly became the gold standard for serial killer profiling.
3. These books give us the most creepy and terrifying serial killer this side of Hannibal Lecter, and I am absolutely chuffed to see the grittiness of this thriller series in young adult lit!
4. Emma Lewis is a badass, incredibly complex character that you root for with every single page you turn. Her badassery lies not in brute strength or actual abilities to kick butt, but in her strength of character, her tenacity, her intelligence, her unwillingness to be pushed around, and her feminist sensibilities (back when more mainstream feminism was still fairly new). She has *been through some shit* and has come out the other side fierce and strong, while also still dealing with the effects of her captivity. I love the quote from Adrienne Rich that she cites as her favorite: “Her wounds came from the same source as her power.”
5. Finally, more on the feminism: again, we’re dealing with very early ‘80s, so mainstream feminism was in its nascent stage, but Marney exposes the sexism inherent in not just police culture but also the culture at large at the time -- and which unfortunately still exists today. At one point Kristen says, “People only listen when women expose their pain, I suppose.” Emma later remarks, “Every woman lives in a constant state of battle-readiness.” Later, when Emma shoos away a creep in a bar by referring to her FBI partner, Travis, as her boyfriend, she notes “the irony that she has to claim connection with one man to avoid another.” I doubt I’m alone in saying each of these is all too familiar even now, 40 years after the setting of this book.
I’m not sure I can adequately convey how darn much I love this series, but I hope this list is a start! If you are *at all* a mystery/thriller lover, PICK THESE UP! Even if you don’t normally read YA, I am confident you’ll love these. And DM me with thoughts once you’re done!
RATING: 5 stars!
**Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for purposes of this blog tour. I also bought myself the audiobook to alternate between audio and physical.

Simon: Do not worry, dear sister. I am merely on the cusp of liberating my divine self from this mortal shell.

please drop some wholesome headcanons about the gutmunsson twins before book 3 comes out and destroys us all thank you
Oh of course! Hints of angst somehow crept in here whoopsie
Even after everything, Kristin still doesn't believe that Simon killed the school cat. She believes everything else, but remains in denial about the cat.
Kristin is a serial clothes-stealer. Simon is always missing at least three sweaters. Simon sometimes gets her back by stealing her fluffy bathrobe.
Before Simon killed their dogs, he would regularly pick one up, carry it to Kristin, and plop the dog in her lap, especially when she was sad.
Occasionally the twins would attempt to bake or cook something on their own. It never ended well, and the staff always ended up cleaning their mess.
When planning their birthday party, Simon was always a control freak, but Kristin always wore him down enough that he let her pick all of the decorations. Every. Single. Year.
Kristin always tried to set Simon up with girls but nothing ever stuck because Simon kept accidentally scaring them off.
They have opposite tastes in climate. Kristin likes a nice warm beach vacay, while Simon prefers touring drafty European castles.
When Kristin is on her period, Simon does the absolute most to make sure she's comfortable. He makes sure she has her heating pad, favorite snacks, comfy blankets, and lots of water.
Kristin is the queen of "Oh, I'm not hungry, don't order me anything." and as soon as the food arrives she's stealing fries off Simon's plate. Eventually he just started ordering a little extra with every meal.
When Kristin was at Chesterfield's, she begged the staff to let her name one of the puppies after Simon. Her therapist vetoed the request.
This was fun to write! Thank you for the ask <3
