what also infuriates me about shit like kosa aside from how it takes away freedom of speech is that the sites these ass backwards adults want already exist. kids virtual worlds like animal jam, club penguin, moshi monsters, wizard101, that stuff existed and in some ways continues to exist.

they’re moderated by actual adults, and the most harm that actually comes out of it is kids falling for scam links.

many of the sites that used to be popular are dead and that’s worse than i think people realize. because of ipad elsagate stuff they’re unable to compete.

i hate to inform every neglectful parent ever (because let’s be honest if you’re for kosa you’re against the idea of parenting) but social media is not safe for your kid nor will it ever be. if you want them to actually be safe online, these virtual worlds encourage safety surprisingly enough. teach your kid to identify scams, how to report people, when to quit having conversations with strangers, and if your child is contacted by a creep, then fucking report it. that’s straight up why online virtual worlds succeed since they’re made to teach this stuff.

your only alternatives are kids tv channels, video games aimed at younger demographics, or no internet period. don’t go and point fingers at places whose websites aren’t made with children in mind.

and if you have a teenager on the web then just teach them basic internet safety. it’s that fucking simple.

oh and a reminder to all parents out there: censoring the internet to make it “kid friendly” means you can’t talk about your political mumbo jumbo or bash the damn liberals or post crappy facebook memes or go one minute without some lankeybox tier garbage being shoved in your face. you’ll be begging for the old internet back :)

Protests as kids/minors often get left out as we aren’t able to do physically as much as adults, however that doesn’t mean our protests don’t matter. It means we have to find other means. So when our means (example; social media) get threatened we have to come together to make sure we have our voices heard, no matter what or how.

It may have advanced, but that doesn't mean it's a law yet, and we still have time to keep it from ever becoming that! Let's tell them that the internet ISN'T a babysitter for little Timmy, but a place where people can share their creativity, ideas, funny jokes and lots of perspectives. And also a place where somebody can seek help or learn whatever is happening to them is good or not.

If this were to become a law, it may cost children their lives due to them being unable to get help or escape from abusive situations, somebody having their way with them, and other things like that.

Marsha, somebody who supports this even admitted it's to "protect kids from the transgender", do we really want a law like that when this is meant to be "The land of the free"?, this law would be a horribly obvious infraction of the first amendment!

Get your friends to join, your family, your community, everybody you know to stand up to this garbage act!

absolutely wild to me that your whole life is defined by exams you took when you were seventeen. their brains are not even fully developed yet. please pick a lane, adults. you dismiss their words. you call young people stupid and unable or not old enough to have good opinions or make choices or participate in the choosing of their own futures and yet you define their futures by one little test. well guess what an exam has a fuckton of choices and if they can't be trusted to have an opinion on their own lives then maybe they can't be trusted to make academic choices on a test either. either you give us a voice or you will not hear until it's too late

now KOSA is a akc that is supposed to help minors but will just hreat kids more by having websites block LGBTQ posts anything related to sex and even suicide not to mention parents will be able to view their kids online presence with if you’re like me and have EXTREMELY different views and opinions from my parents will undoubtedly just hrat me and many others more than help us minors

I saw someone reblog the original post whomst is from another country and is unsure of how to help.

So if you're in another country, here's how you can help:

If you have ANY friends that live in America, tell them about this bill. You can show them my original post talking about it if you want to because it's now pinned to the top of my page.

I have seen not a SINGLE person outside of tiktok besides myself on ANY other social media platform talking about this bill even though this thing literally spells the end of social media and the internet itself as we know it. and that's SCARY. I've been doing everything I can to spread it, but I'm just one person and it's still not enough.

And unfortunately, looks like my statement in the orignal post about how it will also effect those that don't live in the US has been proven correct in more ways than one. I was notified an hour b4 I made this post that a mass internet censorship bill similar to KOSA just got passed in the UK. It hasn't gone into effect yet, so there's still time for public outcry to overturn it, but the fact that a KOSA copycat bill got passed in another country is scary.

So yes. If you live outside the states, tell EVERYONE. Use your own platforms across all your social to spread the owrd if you have any. and ensure any friends or mutuals you have that live in the US are notified. Share the links to the petitions and resources and action items in my original post. we CANNOT afford to let this fascist nightmare come true

And I should also add another tidbit i recently found out. The right wing organization known as The Hertiage Foundation that authored what is essentially a Mein Kampf 2.0 style manifesto of how republicans plan on destroying our democracy if a republican wins the presidency in 2024 called The 2025 Project (which you can read on their website) has stated that KOSA is directly aligned with their goal which makes this even worse. again. When I say we cannot afford this Fascist nightmare to come true, I'm not exaggerating

If someone ever asks me, "Why do you time on the internet so much? What does it have the real world does not?" I'll reply with:

The internet doesn't have life-threatening pollution or the threat of real wars. The internet has fast connections with people I would have never met otherwise. It has an endless and ever growing library of life-altering hacks or small nick-nacks and information not found and hidden elsewhere. It's a way of escapism from your mistakes; a way to have my classmates learn and adapt to make our world livable again.

Fix our world before forcing kids like me into a box so you can gain what little control you lost due to your own short-sightedness. Fix it so I can live and know others live in peace. Or let me keep my freedom so if I die tomorrow, I can die happy.
