Loved your thoughts on influencial otokoyaku for the last question! I was wondering if you could do the same for musumeyaku?
The Takarazuka musumeyaku is a very unique and interesting entity, I've been mulling this over for ages and there is no definitive way to answer it so I'm just going to list some random musings:
Ok for one, queen of musumeyaku Hanafusa Mari. She had five husbands, and was top for 8 1/2 years (she is hella old old old old money but still). No one is ever going to do that again.
Hatsukaze Jun, the musumeyaku of the BeruBara Boom.
After that, there are a lot of musumeyaku who went on to successful careers in TV and movies. Decades ago, there was actually a very intentional Takarazuka-to-silver-screen pipeline. Off the top of my head, Yachigusa Kaoru was one of those, but there were so so many and I'm doing this while slacking off a Zoom meeting so I can't look them up right now lol.
More modern examples of the above: Kuroki Hitomi, Dan Rei, Konno Mahiru, Emi Kurara, Haida Shoko, among others...
Even more recent, Sakihi Miyu, Manaki Reika, and Maaya Kiho have been killing it with lead stage roles since retirement, something that in the past only former top otokoyaku were able to achieve with any kind of consistency.

Pride
Hello, I have finished this commission for Hybridial https://www.deviantart.com/hybridial who had wanted me to make a picture of this tense scene!
At the end of chapter 7: Cat, Jun is confronted by Aoi Kurosaki in her Devilman form. Enraged by Aoi's murder of Hitomi Konno, Jun attacks; but finds herself physically overpowered for the first time. Aoi had felt crippled ever since the accident that Jun had caused to her in High School, finds much to like about her new body.https://www.deviantart.com/hybridial/art/Ch07-Cat-First-Draft-815439373
This was really one of the most detailed pieces I have done in a long while! Especially in a urban setting, oh my goodness I put in as much detail I could and this was really fun to draw Aoi's Noir form and I'm glad that Hybridial has included more of Aoi in his Devilman Lady adaption since I felt like Aoi wasn't used to her fullest in either the anime or manga. I'm excited to see how Aoi's story will go there!
Many thanks to Hybridial for commissioning me on this piece, this was challenging and fun to make, I especially enjoyed drawing Aoi in her Noir form since that is a pretty amazing design for her!
Btw if you like what you see and want a commission drop me a direct message on tumblr, instagram, a note on deviantart or artistree https://artistree.io/missn11

The Best of 2023 Anime
Tumblr media
First of all, I have to say that this isn't my idea: it's @444lpblue's idea. I'm just stealing it getting to it it before they do.
Anyways, the idea was to pick the best for several categories in relation to anime from 2023, and share why they were chosen. This doesn't necessarily mean I'll be picking my favorites from the year, but what I think is the best of the best, so there'll be a few interesting choices made (but I think that makes it more fun). Enough preamble though, I should just get to sharing my list.
Best Show - Heavenly Delusion
Tumblr media
I don't think this one is much of a surprise. Heavenly Delusion, by and large, is an outstanding show (and adaptation) in all meanings of the word.
I think the best way to explain what constitutes a "best show" is by asking the question: how much of the medium does this series make use of?
With Heavenly Delusion? The answer is effectively everything. Visual storytelling, auditory cues, leading the viewer visually, incredible foreshadowing, expressive and detailed character acting, apt humor, incredible visual effects. The list goes on and on. Frieren was a great show, Skip and Loaf was a great show, The Witch From Mercury was a great show. But the best can't fall short in nearly any category, and Heavenly Delusion successfully evades that pitfall at every twist and turn within its twelve episodes.
Personally speaking, it was a show for the ages. Sure, we have Frieren pushing the boundaries in terms of visual quality in a seasonal anime, but I think the difference in terms of experience between Frieren and Heavenly Delusion is night and day- an entirely incomparable experience.
Best Movie - The Boy and The Heron
Tumblr media
I mean, is there really another choice? The Black Clover movie was good, the Kaguya movie was good. Suzume, The First Slam Dunk, Blue Giant. There are quite a few good movies out there, but let's be real- you just can't win if you're against Miyazaki.
Best Episode - Heavenly Delusion Episode 10
Tumblr media
Yeah yeah, sue me, I picked something a lot of people have also picked. But just know in the deepest parts of my heart that this would always be my pick. Junichi's character arc and its expression through this episode is sublime. Ikarashi's insane Trigger style meshing with Hirotaka's more voyeuristic appeal is sublime. The panic of Kiruko as she runs with the baby, the goofy and excessive humor that opens the episode, all the various examples of symbolism. The art shifting art styles, the different approaches to animation. The list quite honestly does not end. While some might argue for Frieren's dragon episode as the entry for best of the year, I think the frame of reference for that argument is far too narrow. The perspective of animation and visuals above all else completely fails in the face of holy trinity of Masakazu Ishiguro, Mori Hirotaka, and Kai Ikarashi. You just cannot beat it, and you can't argue it in any way.
Best Opening - Magical Destroyers
Tumblr media
It was a toss up between this and Heavenly Delusion, but I just can't get rid of this opening in my head. It's like a plague that's taken me over. Incredible visuals, incredible boards and animation work, and just an incredible testament to Jun Inagawa's art. Heavenly Delusion's OP is very good, but in a way can, oddly enough, feel too literal in comparison to the comparatively indecipherable story that the OP of Magical Destroyers tells. Really, just wonderful work all around that I desperately wish could have extended to the anime itself.
Best Ending - Magical Destroyers
Tumblr media
This was always a one person race. Would it be Taiki Konno's Magical Destroyers ending, or would it be Taiki Konno's Undead Unluck ending?
Personally, I don't think there was much of a contest between the two purely because of the story told with the Magical Destroyers ending. I think that giving Konno a static ending also helped a great deal as they were able to explore their vision in much greater detail than having to animate directly.
But that's also the beauty of Inagawa's appeal, really. Konno and Inagawa got along like a house on fire with this ending, and adding The 13th Tailor's music overtop just brought it to a totally different level. Still a massive massive favorite of mine.
Best Animation Designs - Trigun Stampede
Tumblr media
Now, just hear me out. 3D animation's sore spot has always been expressiveness, and bringing anime original designs to such an intensely beloved and cult classic series is an insane challenge.
Orange, of course, was totally up to the challenge and brought what I'd argue has become a modern icon of Vash the Stampede. The facial expressions, reactions, and interactions were impeccable. The larger movements were incredibly fluid and full of life and feeling. The cloth and other materials were amazing to experience.
The designs feel almost effortless in the context of 3D animation, and I really have to stress that that is a huge challenge. Look at how other characters look in 3D vs how these ones look. Really, really impressive work in my books.
Best Aesthetic - Bleach Thousand Year Blood War: The Separation
Tumblr media
Bleach has, and always will be, a very aesthetically pleasing series. There's plenty of moments to pull from, but I think the second cour of TYBW presents the pinnacle of Bleach in anime form.
The lighting, the backgrounds and environments, the insane levels of composition: TYBW The Separation is the highest reaches of style Bleach has mustered to this date.
And really, there's not anything else to it. The iconic red and blue palette, the crazy details in highlights and shadows, the incredible color schemes and storyboards. It's simply Number 1.
And that's as far as the list goes. Pretty simple, but a pretty fun exercise in looking back on the year in terms of more specific aspects. Does highlight the gulf between good and great though, as there's many series that can qualify as "good", but very very few that can really be reasonably considered for accolades such as these.
2024 seems keen on changing that up though, so I'm really looking forward to what all we get for this year!

Diabolik Lovers (ディアボリックラヴァーズ, Hepburn: Diaborikku Ravāzu) is a Japanese visual novel franchise by Rejet.
An anime adaptation was first announced at a 2013 event called the "Rejet Fes 2013 Viva La Revolution". During the "Otomate Party 2013" event later that year, it was announced that the adaptation would be directed by Atsushi Matsumoto and produced by the Zexcs studio.
Diabolik Lovers (ディアボリックラヴァーズ Diaborikku Ravāzu), abbreviated as DiaLover, is a Japanese anime television series directed by Shinobu Tagashira and produced by the animation studio Zexcs.
Diabolik Lovers More,Blood (ディアボリックラヴァーズ モア、ブラッド Diaborikku Ravāzu Moa,Buraddo) is the second season of the DiaLover anime series which takes its title from the second otome game of the same name, Diabolik Lovers MORE,BLOOD.
However, the second season is not a direct sequel to the first season, but a spin-off based on the second game of the franchise.
Plot
First season
Yui is a kind and gentle seventeen-year-old second year high school student who lived a normal and peaceful life, until her father moved overseas for work.
“Not wanting her to be alone” , he sends her to live with an old friend and his six sons. When she arrives at their mansion, she discovers that they are vampires.
Only to be informed that there is a different, much darker reason she was sent to them. While she optimistically accepts her situation, she unravels mysteries of the Sakamakis' past and her own.
Second Season
After living with the Sakamaki's for a month, Yui begins to have strange dreams and apparitions regarding a mysterious purple haired woman. Her fate takes a turn after she gets involved in an unexplainable fiery car accident with the Sakamaki's.
This incident heralds four new vampire brothers who suddenly appear and abduct Yui for their own purposes.

⚰︎ DIABOLIK LOVERS Pre-Order Tokuten Drama CD: “Vampire★Juice ~A Suspicious Syrup from the Underworld~” ⚰︎
Tumblr media
Japanese Title: ヴァンパイア★ジュース 〜魔界から変なシロップ〜
CV: Takehiro Kou, Konno Jun
Audio Available: N/A
Author Note: Hehe, finally the goofy vampire juice CD is here for Ryuuto and Richter~! I had sooo much fun writing this because I speed-typed it in three(ish) days. Ryuuto (hopefully) comes across as very silly with how he just speaks before thinking and follows in Kanato's footsteps by starting to strip-off xD (and i think this is the first time he actually cusses on record?? So, big boy steps for him lol). Richter also gets to have some silly moments in this, being babied by his son and proving himself to be a lightweight lolol.
Tumblr media
― Ryuuto is painting in his studio. ―
Ryuuto: Hmm…
No, this won’t do at all.
There needs to be movement. Soft, flowy movement… Of those satin curtains over there, and perhaps even your hair in the wind.
Pet, do me a favour and open that window, there.
― You do as he asks. ―
Now, take a seat back down… Yes, that is much better.
I’ll be able to capture so much more upon the canvas. Don’t shoot me such a hurt expression, Pet. You breathe plenty of life into my art…
This time, however, you alone are simply not enough, fufu.
― Squeak, squeak. ―
…Hm? What on earth?
― Flap, flap, flap. ―
That sound… My, it seems we have a visitor.
― A bat crashes through the curtains, landing on Ryuuto’s paint palette, and then the floor. ―
Oh, good lord…! Tut, what a mess!!
― It leaves little wet and paint covered bat tracks as it stumbles over to him. ―
Bat tracks… and paint. Sigh.
― You stress your concern. ―
It is totally fine, they are tougher than they look... Although, this one clearly this isn’t a Familiar of mine with this level of clumsiness…
― Squeak, squeak! ―
…Aah, and now I see why.
You’re a Familiar from the Demon World, you say? Bearing a package from… Say that name again? Surely not…
From Karlheinz? My Uncle?
Really? Whatever for?
― Squeak! ―
“In gratitude”? Hmph.
…Well, even I am a little curious about this.
Yes, I suppose you can be on your way, and the sender can rest assured that it has been received. Even if reluctantly…
― It flies off now. ―
…This is certainly something. For Karlheinz to be in any sort of communication with us is unheard of, especially for him to send a package.
This has “suspicious” painted all over it; Who is to say it is even from Karlheinz?
I wouldn’t be surprised if a clumsy Familiar like that doesn’t belong to someone mindless like Ayato, hoping to prank us with an “ominous package”.
After all, what could someone like Karlheinz possibly be sending all the way over here? Furthermore…
Aah, it seems it’s addressed to Richter?
― You wonder what’s inside. ―
Whether from Karlheinz or not, it’s not our place to wonder. We’ll find out once we hand it over to Father, I suppose. Come along…
― You make your way to the living room. ―
One thing is for certain… It is surprisingly heavy.
Richter: What is?
Ryuuto: Ah, Father. Just the person I was looking for.
Richter: Well, now you have found me, do fill me in… Oh, could it be something troubling? Just what is with those grim expressions?
Ryuuto: This package… It is addressed to you.
Richter: Is that all? Give it here, then.
Ryuuto: The thing is, the familiar that dropped it off informed me that it was sent as a “thank you”…. from Karlheinz himself.
Richter: …How interesting. Whatever could he be thinking?
Ryuuto: That’s what I was wondering. Have you been in contact with him lately?
Richter: Not enough to warrant a… gift.
I suppose the only thing to do from here is to open it? There is that saying of “curiosity killed the cat”, and yet I cannot help get ahead of myself…
You, hold the box for me, won’t you?
― You hold the package. ―
Ryuuto: …!! Wait a moment, is this really a good idea?
Richter: Why wouldn’t it be? It’s a package addressed to me, from my brother, in thanks for… Well, who can say?
Nevertheless, I have every intention on opening it.
Ryuuto: Father! Aren’t you worried about it being not all it seems…?
After all, this sort of stuff… It’s been sent directly from the Makai…!
Richter: Come now. Paranoia doesn’t suit you, Ryuuto.
What about you? What do you make of all this?
― You are curious... ―
Ryuuto: What do you mean “take a peek”? Did you not listen to a word I was saying before, about it being a potential for disaster?
Richter: Usually you are the one telling me to lighten up, fufufu.
― “What’s the worst that could happen?” ―
Ryuuto: The worst that could happen? Well…
― You point out something on the package. ―
Richter: Aah, good eye.
If you’re worried that it’s anything less than what it seems, Ryuuto, I think this person has just the thing to alleviate those concerns. Look…
Ryuuto: …Karlheinz’ seal? The ribbon of the box has been held shut with a wax imprint of it?
Richter: Now that matter has been settled… You, hold it still.
― Richter pries open the box. ―
Ryuuto: ...I really think you ought to be more careful.
Richter: Whatever you say, “Father”. Fufu…
Ryuuto: Hmph.
― Richter takes out the contents of the box. ―
…Oh? Of all things that could have been, it is a bottle?
Richter: With some sort of liquid inside it, yes.
― Richter uncaps the bottle. Pop! ―
Hmm, no smell… and totally clear.
Did you say if there was any letter that came with the package? Any sort of hint of what liquid this might be?
― You explain that there wasn’t. ―
…I wonder if it is meant to be drunk?
Ryuuto: That’s… You can’t be serious!?
Sending some strange, unidentifiable liquid is a little suspicious, don’t you think?
Richter: This is my final warning, Ryuuto… Lest you want to volunteer to be the guinea pig, after all, cut it out.
Ryuuto: Fine… Go ahead and poison yourself, for all I care.
Richter: … …Hmph.
…Perhaps there is something to be had with taking a little bit of caution.
Poison isn’t something I considered… I wonder if even Karlheinz would stoop to such levels, despite the show-off that he is?
― Richter decides to pour a glass. ―
In that case, there is one way we can rule out any ill-intentions. You there, won’t you come a little closer for just a moment?
― You question him. ―
Don’t act so surprised. There is one else here to test it for us, is there?
Ryuuto: You mean to say… Our Pet is taking the first sip?
You truly have lost your mind. If something were to happen to her whilst tasting it…
Richter: Then she has the two of us here to rely on. After all, her life always has been completely and utterly in our hands… Isn’t that right?
Ryuuto: When you put it that way…
Richter: Go ahead, give it a try.
― You refuse! ―
Ryuuto: …I agree with him. Drink it, Pet.
Even if we can’t be sure of what it is…
You’re a human, so – come to think of it – I highly doubt you’ll be in any immediate danger. Especially if this was sent by another Vampire.
And, at the very least… Fufu, I’ve actually become a little curious…
Richter: We give you our word that you’re in capable hands.
― You give in... Gulp!! ―
Ryuuto: Well?
Richter: You aren’t green in the face, nor have you collapsed to the ground thus far…
It appears safe, after all.
Ryuuto: Does it even have a taste, Pet? I don’t quite know if my Uncle has a sense of humour, but if it turns out to be nothing more than water…
― You reassure him. ―
Tut, pour me a glass. Let me taste it for myself.
― Ryuuto takes a sip. ―
…Mm, this is quite good. Not what I expected, after all.
Richter: You mean to say, I was right all along? It is harmless, isn’t it? I told you as much. Even you haven’t reacted to it, Ryuuto.
Now, it seems I’ve been left in the dust, fufu.
― Richter pours a glass, and drinks. ―
…This taste…
As sweet as it is… It is awfully familiar.
There’s no obvious labelling, but I could swear I’ve sampled something similar before. I just can’t quite put my finger on it.
Ryuuto: Whatever it is, if you happen to remember the name of it, it might be worth a daytrip to the Makai to purchase some more.
I have a feeling this bottle will be gone soon enough.
― You finish your cup. ―
It seems someone else here is also a big fan of it? Fufu.
Richter: This taste is definitely bringing back some memories…
To send it all the way from the Makai… Could it have been something Karlheinz and I used to drink as children, I wonder?
― Ryuuto uncaps it again. ―
Ryuuto: Shall I top us all up?
― You warn him. ―
…Fufu, look at you, telling me not to drink so much. There isn’t any harm in one more glass, is there? Are you worried I might upset my stomach?
So, who is for one more?
― You deny. ―
Richter: More for us, then. Please, if you would be so kind.
Ryuuto: And another for myself, I think~.
Richter: Mm… You know, it really is bugging me, that I can’t figure out where I have tasted this before. It’s so distinctly delicious, it should be obvious.
― You try to help him out. ―
“Is it juice”? No, that would have a distinctly fruity taste. Instead, if I were to try and place it somehow, it has a pungent tang to it.
It tastes more like… …!! Wait…
Father’s cabinet… Yes, that’s just it!
Ryuuto: What, have you figured out just what it is, finally?
Richter: Fufu… Ahahaha. Karlheinz, you shifty little thief…
You there. Are you sure you aren’t to have any more?
― You insist. ―
“No?” In that case… Cheers, Ryuuto. Fufufu!
― They clink their glasses together. ―
― TIMESKIP. ―
Ryuuto: One―hic―more glass couldn’t hurt~
― You interject. ―
We drank the whole bottle, already?
Fufu, talk about getting ahead of ourselves. Although―hic―I suppose it isn’t a celebration without going overboard just a smidge.
Although, if I were to properly overindulge―hic―this evening… I think I would need to fix my sights on you, Pet… Imagine it, won’t you?
Stripped down naked, and sat nicely in my lap~
― You get flustered. ―
Richter: Good grief, Ryuu…to… Have you no… shame?
I’d ask what has gotten into you, but I… think that much is obvious. In the end, you went through… even more of that drink than me.
― You ask if Richter’s okay. ―
Me? I’m perfectly… fine, just a little tired after all that drinking. I suppose I’ve always… been a lightweight drunk, fu…fufu.
Ryuuto: Just a moment! You mean to say, what was in that bottle was…
Richter: Liqueur from… the Makai. Surprisingly thoughtful of Karlheinz, wouldn’t you say?
After wracking my brain, it conjured up memories of… of when he and I happened to break into our Father’s cabinet…
Full to the… yawn… brim with refined Makai liqueur. Fufu.
Ryuuto: Well, well… Who knew the two of you were such miscreants when you were younger~? Colour me surprised.
Not to mention… you didn’t even react to―hic―it, Pet. You hold your drink well… Maybe we should have laced yours with a little something extra~?
Richter: What was in the bottle was not quite like... yawn… like that which humans drink, nor does it seem to affect… …affect them… as much.
Yaa~wn…
Ryuuto: I suppose that might be a blessing in dis―hic―guise. Who is to say you wouldn’t be all over me, if you had gotten a little tipsy~?
One thing is for certain, though… That stuff really warms you up; I think I’m beginning to get hot flushes! Goodness me…~
― He begins to strip. ―
Haa… There~
…Fufu, what is with those wide eyes? It’s just my shirt coming off, don’t get too excited~ You can’t blame me for wanting to cool off?
― You look to Richter for help. ―
Richter: Zz… zz…
Ryuuto: Oh dear, don’t look over there… It seems, after―hic―all that Father has fallen asleep. So, bring your focus back to me, won’t you?
Fawn over your Master some more…
― Ryuuto creeps closer to you. ―
Unless… you want to take the reins this time? What a delectable little thing you are~
Maybe that’s it… Shall I be the “Pet” in this―hic―new arrangement? Go ahead, then… Praise me. Please? Pretty please~?
― You try to wake Richter. ―
Richter: P…Pardon? Did I… drift off, for a moment?
…R-Ryuuto. What happened to your… shirt?
― You offer to get water for them both. ―
Ryuuto: Never-mind that… Water, to sober us up? That’s just an old wives’ tale.
Richter: I suggest we should… Mmh… Just sleep these effects off…
― Richter rests his head in your lap. ―
I’ll just… rest my head here, alright? Your lap makes for… a decent pillow, after all. Don’t… Don’t wake me.
Zzz… Zz…
Ryuuto: Father, what are you doing…!? If anything,we should―hic―or, I should, be the “pillow” in this situation…!!
After all, I’m beginning to take my role as “Pet” very―hic―seriously.
― THUD. ―
― Richter rolls right off your lap onto the floor. ―
Fufufu… Don’t look so worried, he’s completely fine… He is tougher than he looks, even whilst asleep―hic!
Say… A-Are you sure there isn’t any more left in the bottle….?
― You express your concerns. ―
Pfft…~ Ahaha, you’re really cute when you become all concerned like―hic―that. It’s really a shame that you haven’t even been the slightest bit affected by the stuff, though… You haven’t been, right?
― You try to think. ―
Richter: Y…You’re feeling hot?
Ryuuto: Wh-What a pervert you are, old man…
Trust that you would have picked up on that, even whilst nearly out cold~
Richter: That’s not the case, this time... My head is spinning, and beginning to throb…! Even with the liquor working against me, it’s painful...
…A-Am I on the floor?
Ryuuto: You’re awfully heavy, it’s no wonder you―hic―totally rolled off on your own. Next time, snooze on someone your own size.
Richter: …Right, then. Shift over, Ryuuto.
Ryuuto: H-Huh…!? I didn’t mean…――
― Richter collapses onto Ryuuto. ―
Richter: Rub my head whilst you’re… ouch, at it.
Ryuuto: You want me to take care of you? A-Are you serious, right now? A-Aren’t you the one that’s―hic―the dad here?
Richter: Less complaining, more massaging.
Ryuuto: You’re one to talk about complaining…
Richter: You there… What were you saying about… Zz…
― You nudge him awake again. ―
A-Ah? Oh, yes… Water, fetch me some water. It couldn’t hurt…
― You go to do just that. ―
― TIMESKIP. ―
Ryuuto: Fu…Fufufu… Come, have a look…!
― You place down the water. ―
Richter: Zz….
Ryuuto: I used the―hic―wrapping tissue from the package the bottle came in, to fashion him something a little more fitting for his sleepy state.
How do you think he looks, in his new baby-bonnet~?
― You laugh. ―
And, with him out of the picture like this… I suppose that makes me the one in charge; I’m the new father around here.
So, how about―hic―it? If me being the “Pet” doesn’t quite suit… What do you say to being taken care of, and calling me your “daddy”, instead?
― You fluster! ―
Your face is completely red… From your nose to your ears, fufu. Have I struck gold? Have I discovered you have “father issues”, I wonder~?
Have you been holding out on me this whole time~?
Go on and say it… Call me “daddy”~
― There is a rustling… ―
Huh? Did I speak too loud and wake him up, after all?
― Richter tears off the make-shift bonnet! ―
W-Waah!?
― And then grabs Ryuuto by his collar. ―
Richter: What do you think you’re doing!?
Ryuuto: Just a moment, now…!
I-It was a joke! A―hic―joke…!
Richter: Attempting to humiliate your own Father with some B-grade arts-and-craft is your idea of a joke, is it!?
Ryuuto: Hey… S-Since when did you get so strong, anyway?
― You plead them to stop. ―
Richter: Whether it’s that liquor getting to his head, or whether he has finally shown his true colours, I will not back down from punishment…!
Ryuuto: “Sleepy drunk”, my ass!
You, h-help me out here!
Richter: And look at you, losing all composure the moment I lay a hand on you.
Tonight is full of surprises for us both, it seems…!!
― You pick up the cups... ―
And, another thing―
― SPLASH! You throw water at them both. ―
Gah…!!
Ryuuto: Woah… I’m soaked…!!
Richter: Y-You…
What on earth was that for!?
At the very least… that took the edge of my tiredness off…
― You call them childish. ―
…Me? Childish!? You saw for yourself, he started it.
Ryuuto: Pointing fingers. Real mature, Father.
Richter: Do not push your luck with me.
Ryuuto: Hmph.
― You ask them to calm down. ―
We are perfectly calm… At the very least, we were until someone insisted on opening that bottle, that is.
Richter: …Perhaps all this emotion is from that gift, after all. I do suppose we overindulged a little back there, come to think of it.
Ryuuto: And by we, you mean “you”?
Richter: Tut. It is like arguing with a child… Oh. Wait~
― You urge them to reach an agreement. ―
…You are quite right. Surprisingly.
― Richter now pinches Ryuuto by his ear. ―
Ryuuto: O-Ow…! What do you think you’re…!?
Richter: You will come to sorely regret making the pair of us look like idiots if you continue to sit on your drunken high horse.
I’ll unhand your ear once we come to an agreement; Might we never overdrink on suspicious liquids sent to us by Karlheinz again.
I would much prefer to no longer stand here and try and compromise with you, weighed down by this water-soaked coat…
What do you say to shaking on it, Ryuuto?
Ryuuto: …Hmph…
― You plead with him. ―
…Don’t look at me with those eyes, you’re practically backing me into a corner, looking so cute… Sigh. For her sake, I’ll agree.
― Richter lets him go now. ―
Richter: Now, before the second-wave, or the headache, hits me… I need to get myself dried out. If you’ll excuse me…
You, you will be fine to clean this mess up, won’t you?
― You nod. ―
Very good. Afterwards, do come and join me in my study, won’t you? Nothing warms these old bones quite like a hot-blooded woman... Fufu.
Ryuuto: …Ow. You know? I think you made my ear bleed…!
Richter: Good grief…

Discover the Key Distinctions between Ai Chi and Tai Chi
Tumblr media
Ai Chi and Tai Chi are two distinct practices that, while appearing similar, have different origins and techniques. Ai Chi is a type of aquatic exercise that uses slow, flowing movements in water to develop relaxation and flexibility. Jun Konno developed it in the 1990s, using influences from Tai Chi, Zen Shiatsu, and water-based therapies. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial technique distinguished by slow, deliberate movements and controlled breathing. It dates back to the 13th century and focuses on yin-yang balance and the flow of Qi. Despite their variations, Ai Chi and Tai Chi have a similar emphasis on breath control, relaxation, and mind-body integration. Both disciplines develop awareness and mental tranquility through deep breathing exercises and slow gestures. They are also low-impact workouts that are appropriate for people of all ages and physical abilities, improving balance, flexibility, and range of motion while reducing stress and anxiety. The fundamental distinction between Ai Chi and Tai Chi is in their movements. Ai Chi is a water-based exercise that uses buoyancy and resistance to increase muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness while minimizing joint strain. Tai Chi, on the other hand, is often done on the ground and includes a broader range of weight-bearing movements that improve bone density and joint function.

Brigadoon: marin & μελαν
As a reminder, I am covering this due to its debatable loose connection to GaoGaiGar, albeit set much earlier in the timeline. Let's take a look.
1: Blue-coloured Introduction.
Two Mechanical looking figures, one named Pyon, discuss how they face the Day of Pasca, and if Creis isn't found, Brigadoon will fall.
It's June 9th, 1969, and the papers a certain girl is delivering speak of the upcoming US Moon Rocket launch. She manages to beak the milk delivery to one house, a common occurrence to his immense frustration. With her deliveries done, she prays to grow taller, for her long sightedness to go away, for them to have enough money, and to be friends with Moe forever. She has a long tab of unpaid offerings, which she adds to, before spotting a strange green creature, which mimics her before running off, she chases it around untik it vanishes near the shrine, and sees through it's opening that it contains a strange blue item. After briefly imagining a giant snake eating her, she opts to investigate, but is stopped by an english-speaking Miko, who chases her away for the vandalism.
Tumblr media
Our heroine is Asagi Marin, 13 years old. She returns to the Share House for breakfast, encouraging Tadashi to come in, paying her respects to her late grandfather Gen, her grandmother Moto, 68, places rice before him. Also living there is mad inventor Aian Shuta, and his American assistant, Mike White, as well as the candy store owner Momoi triplets, Hitoe, Furae and Mitsue, wood sculptor Onando Shiro, and drunkard Tokita Tadashi, whose wife left due to his drinking. After breakfast, on her way to school, Marin runs into the returning Jun, Tadashi's daughter, and a nurse who works nights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At assembly, as the Principal delivers his speech Marin tends to her sickly best friend, Kisaragi Moe, not noticing the boys are peeking at her even when called up due to her essay about orphanhood getting a prize, the whole school unfortunately seeing. The laughter is halted by a sudden bright light, and what appears to be structures appear within an Aurora in the sky, Marin briefly imagining aliens appearing and killing Moe.
The same site is visible in New York, St Petersburgh and Kenya, and everyone at the share house reacts in various ways, Shura noting it must be a mirage of sorts as sunlight is coming through. Usuzumi Isshin, who lifted her skitt, mocks her for causing this somehow, Ayanashi Eiko, Ebicha Tamami and Konno Wakana complain she used her orphan status to win, Hanazono Sumi recommends she wear a slip, Kabamoto Tatsuya asks how she changed the sky, and Tanzen Takashi declares it doesn't matter. The teacher, Kurihara Chiasa, comes in to dismiss them for the day.
Back at home, before Marin has a chance to show off her prize, something falls from the mirage down directly into the Asagi rooms. It's first eye identifies Marin, then the second fires laser blasts, destroying her prize. She escapes to where everyone else is, they all get knocked down by the blasts, but it's clear the object is targeting her. She escapes on bike, it pursues, firing missiles from a third eye which destroy the bike at the shrine, as she runs on foot it splits and sp9ns with razor points. She manages to hide at the shrine, and is drawn in and taking the treasure, briefly imagining it electrocution her, it does have some reaction before the daruma chasing her finds her again, shining from the last eye a blinding light that threatens to burn her away in a panic she throws the treasure.
Tumblr media
And suddenly there is a blue robotesque warrior, that uses a laser gun to blast the daruma away, before turning to Marin, identifying her by name, and introducing itself as Melan Blue. When the Daruma reappears, Melan grows wire appendages from his torso to hold Marin, and, activating a faceplate, flies into the air with her, dropping her when told, then catching her again, and accidentally destroying the fortunes. Marin complains about not knowing what's going on, then realises the purple blood on her is Melan's and apologises for causing him to be injured, but he assures her he will recover swiftly as a Monomachia, but doesn't feel inclined to explain what that is, content to protect her without explaining, but when asked tells her the daruma is the Murder Monomachia Dollon. They continue escaping Dollon's pursuit, flying through an amusement park, where a boy recognises Monomakia.
Tumblr media
Melan deposits Marin in a gondola while he clashes with Dollon, using both his gun arm and his bayonet arm, but Dollon spots Marin and tears through her car, leaving her hanging from a wire. As it approaches her it accidentally socks up some scraps, causing it to fall, allowing Melan to tear open Dollon's head and blast out the inside to destroy it, then catches Marin, asking if she is okay.

Animage May 2012 - Interview with Ayahi Takagaki (Kurama), Konno Jun (Hamano) and Yoshino Hiroyuki (Hayami)
Tumblr media
Full scans can be found here: http://inazuma.pmsinfirm.org/?p=222
Notes: The very first magazine article I tried to translate - three years later I FINALLY finished it. One of the few articles about my beloved Kurama~
Round Table Discussion - Raimon Second Year Close Up Talk
‘Don’t Call Us The Stay At Home Trio!’
While they’re second years along with Shindou and Kirino, they don’t have a character song or even a role in the movie? They may not play a spectacularly important role, but they keep going strong, without ever giving up. They are the definition of Raimon Spirit! We looked back over the first series with the actors who play this unshakable trio.
Out of the second year trio, Kurama has probably grown the most.
Hayami, Hamano and Kurama are referred to as the ‘Second Year Trio’ among fans, but they also have another nickname - the ‘Stay at Home Trio’.
Konno: That’s because we were left behind when everyone went to God Eden (laughs).
Yoshino: But if anything did happen, how were we three supposed to stop it?
 Takagaki: Seriously!
You could also say you three play the ‘unsung heroes’ of Raimon, but what was your first impression of your character?
Konno: Hmm. The first time I saw his design, I noticed Hamano’s hands were directly thrust into his pants. Not in pockets.
 Takagaki: Is he a child?
Konno: Right, I thought he must be a mischievous, childish sort of kid, but in reality he’s not really that kind of person. He’s very light-hearted, and he often shows that he does think seriously about things.
In what way were you instructed to play him?
Konno: I was first told ‘In any case, just play him with a carefree air,’. In the first match against Eito, he says ‘Minamisawa-saaaan~’ and passes the ball, but the sound director told me to play it with less intensity. Even if it felt like he had no determination, that was okay. Furthermore, Endou’s story feels like it was made in the Showa era (older), but Tenma’s story feels like the Heisei era (modern). Hamano and Hayami and the others speak more like modern teenagers.* I feel like keeping that in mind solidified Hamano’s character for me.
*It’s hard to translate this part, but recently young Japanese have a tendency to say things that sound like the opposite to what they mean. So, instead of saying ‘it is,’ they would say ‘isn’t it?’. The meaning is the same but the way of saying it is different. Kind of confusing. Sugoi means amazing, right? Sugokunai means ‘not amazing’, but when young people say it they mean ‘amazing’. I’m bad at explaining it, I’m sorry! Basically they speak like modern Japanese teenagers in GO. They sound younger.
Takagaki: In my case, when I first saw Kurama’s design I thought to myself ‘He’s so tiny!’ (laughs). Before the anime started, one of the staff members said to me ‘In any case, please play him as kind of an unpleasant person.’ And then Level Five’s Hino (Akihiro) said to me that ‘Kurama is Suneo*.’ (laughs)
*Honekawa Suneo/ Sneech from Doraemon. A spoiled rich kid who likes to show off to his friends to make them jealous. His personality is cunning, prideful, arrogant and narcissistic.
 Konno: Huh? (laughs)
Takagaki: Before the show started, I imagined he was some kind of spoiled rich kid ‘Nori-chama’ (laughs), but that wasn’t what was meant at all - I would say it’s more like he’s a counter or foil to the main character. That’s what was meant by those words. You feel that Kurama is completely against the winds of revolution that Tenma brings. So I think he was meant to be disliked by fans who support Tenma.
He’s a kind of an unpleasant senpai, isn’t he?
Takagaki: He is. But Kurama also has passionate feelings about soccer, and he’s a pretty good kid. What I was particularly careful about was how to show the sense of distance he felt in his heart towards Tenma and free soccer as it got smaller. In the second half of the anime, scenes where he puts more trust in his kouhai gradually increase, and I think he really grows as a person.
He came to Tenma’s side and became a shield for him…
Takagaki: He did. His special moves aren’t really that successful (bitter laugh), but he really works hard. For their hissatsu tactics Ultimate Thunder, in the end Kurama couldn’t do it either and Tsurugi came to save them, but when Kurama sees his kouhais working hard like that, he thinks ‘Next time will be me!’
Next is Yoshino-san - in a previous talk show you said that you thought Hayami was ‘some kind of penalty game’.
Yoshino: Yes. At first I felt like ‘I’m really gonna play this guy?’ and that it would be difficult (laughs). But since I heard adult Kidou would appear too I was glad I got to play two completely different roles. Hayami is, in any case, a negative guy and I’ve given up on thinking he’s gonna develop past that, since he’s consistently negative about everything. But I wonder is that what’s interesting about him?
Takagaki: But in the end, in episode 45, Hayami became really positive!
Yoshino: Since everyone else was so happy and excited, he probably thought he couldn’t be the only one not all pumped up? (laughs)
Takagaki: No! Surely he was actually that happy too!
Konno: Wouldn’t it be a real shame that if even after they’d conquered the Holy Road and defeated Fifth Sector he was still negative?
Yoshino: But, well, his basic personality hasn’t changed. If it were up to me, I’d probably say to Hayami ‘If you’re not gonna just play soccer, then get out of here already!’
Takagaki: Don’t be like that! Hayami is trying his best! Everyone in Raimon was burdened with having to compromise by playing controlled soccer for a really long time, but he’s had the same feeling as everyone else for wanting to play free soccer all this time! So I think that in the end all of us in this three person team got to show our true selves!
Yoshino: Well, I guess. Out of the three of them, I would say Kurama in particular. He’s grown a lot.
Please tell us about the most memorable scene for you from the first series.
Konno: The scene that had the biggest impact was when Hamano took a pass and said ‘I ended up taking it… (against his better judgement)’. Hamano’s passes are often intercepted during matches. That seems to be his role (laughs).
Takagaki: He says like ‘Huh?’ a lot (laughs).
Yoshino: It’s becoming a bit like Hamano is the gap in the team.
Konno: Even so, he’s only benched when he’s injured. Kidou-san uses Hamano more than you’d expect.
Yoshino: He really does. Hama-chan is used all the time.
Then, in episode 19 when the talk turned to ‘starting a revolution’ Hamano was in the most high spirits.
Konno: He suddenly became super hyped up all by himself (laughs). He said ‘Wouldn’t a Resistance be cool?’. With those goggles he wears on his head doesn’t he look like the hero of a beloved anime series? They’re different to Hayami’s glasses and there’s no real purpose to them (laughs).
Takagaki: Kurama’s most memorable scene was… It’s gotta be when Minamisawa-san quit the club and Kurama exploded at Tenma about everything he was thinking. Up until then, Raimon could only play soccer following the rules they were given - they understood that it was all they could do - when Tenma entered the club and demolished Raimon’s way of doing things. Because of that, the forward wearing the number 10 shirt, Minamisawa-san, who worked together with the forward wearing the number 11 shirt, Kurama, left. ‘We put up with everything because we have no choice, so don’t interfere!’ he vented, showing how he felt about soccer.
Tenma became pretty depressed when Kurama yelled at him.
Takagaki: He did. But Kurama did have a good point, and I think by speaking up it made an impact on Tenma and the others.
Yoshino: My most memorable moment in the whole series was when Sangoku actually managed to catch a shoot.
 Konno/ Takagaki: (laughs)
Yoshino: If you compare Inazuma GO’s Holy Road and Inazuma Eleven’s Football Frontier, there’s definitely more goals - at least one - scored against Raimon.
 Takagaki: Really?
Yoshino: Endou definitely makes a difference.
Endou Kantoku should teach Sangoku some goalkeeper moves.
 Takagaki: Yeah!
Yoshino: He’s probably given up on Sangoku’s potential. ‘This kid’s a lost cause,’ (laughs)
Konno: Don’t say that! (laughs) But Sangoku really is loved by everyone.
Whenever Sangoku goes to save a goal, the cast seem to point out ‘No, it’s impossible!’
Takagaki: That’s true. Well, during test runs.
Konno: Hey, it’s mostly Nojima-san and Yoshino-san (laughs).
Yoshino: Hey, everyone does it!
 (All together) (laughs)
Takagaki: When we all went out to dinner together before, and broccoli came in our salad, Saiga (Mitsuki - Shindou) san and the others got really excited about it. Everyone ate Sangoku-san and he was delicious. (laughs)
Next, what was Hayami’s most memorable scene?
Yoshino: Hayami is always like ‘Waaaa, waaa - it’s hopeless!’ That’s what I find most memorable about him because he’s always saying that.
But wasn’t the scene he did Zero Yon against Kaiou Gakuen pretty cool?
 Takagaki: Yeah, that was cool!
Yoshino: I guess. Even if he started it by crouching down.
 Konno/ Takagaki: (laughs)
Yoshino: It was like he suddenly crouched down in the middle of the match and told everyone ‘Wait a sec, wait a sec! I’m gonna dribble!’
Konno: He completely stopped moving. (laughs) But it’s an easy hissatsuwazza to understand.
Yoshino: It’s funny and very Inazuma-like. I think it’s good that kids can mimic it easily.
When the match was over it was cute how Hamano sympathised with Hayami.
Takagaki: Those two really are close! I think it’s a great relationship.
Yoshino: Yeah, Hayami’s always fishing with Hama-chan.
Konno: Hayami always comes with me when I go fishing. I’m grateful.
Takagaki: I’m jealous that you get to see a lot of those two outside of school and the soccer club.
Konno: But at the beginning there was scenes of all three of them in the classroom together. They’re probably all in the same class.
Yoshino: I wonder what class Nishiki is. Although he suddenly returned to Japan out of nowhere.
Takagaki: I want to see more of the second years’ lives back then and how they interact with each other. Personally I want to see Kurama’s regular clothes too. An episode like from Endou’s series, where everyone goes to an amusement park or something!
In the ending theme Kanari Junjou there was a tiny bit. Kurama was talking on the phone to his parents about what today’s errands were, and Hamano seemed to be playing games.
Takagaki: That’s true! I’m glad we could see just a little bit of their normal lives.
Konno: Hamano seems to have a smartphone. He’s holding it with two hands.
 Yoshino: A smartphone? You??
 Konno: Yes! (laughs)
Takagaki: I want to see everyone’s families.
Yoshino: I wonder what Hama-chan’s house is like?
Takagaki: Doesn’t he seem like he comes from a big family?
Yoshino: Like he’d be the second youngest of five siblings?
Konno: He’s definitely not the oldest.
Yoshino: Ham-chan doesn’t have the sense of being an older sibling. (laughs)
What could Hayami be doing in the ending theme? He looks disappointed.
Yoshino: I wonder if he’s reading his emails.
Takagaki: Like ‘No emails. Only magazine subscriptions.’ or something.
Yoshino: ‘Today’s horoscope is shit too,’ or something.
 Konno: That’s harsh!
Now let’s talk about your other roles. Please tell us about your feelings for this past year.
Takagaki: I also play Aoyama. Aoyama was part of the second team, then quit the club but when he saw how Raimon rebelled against Fifth Sector he returned to the club. But he still doesn’t really have many chances to actually play…
He was sulking a little bit about that with Ichino on the bus.
Takagaki: He was! (laughs) He probably thought he’d be made a regular right way when Minamisawa-san left.
 Yoshino: I thought so! (laughs)
Konno: If luck was on his side! (laughs)
Takagaki: There was already an episode where Amagi-senpai was worrying that all these new kids came out of nowhere and could someone keshins, and then a member of the Italian mafia came out of nowhere... (laughs)
Konno: A member of the mafia with pink hair! (laughs)
Takagaki: That’s right, Someoka-san! When they were down, he gave them some strong words. With that, they all learned that if they work hard one day their efforts would pay off. I think they were all able to realize that they really did love soccer. I think that’s why at the very end Aoyama and Ichino could finally use a combination hisstatsuwazza! Kidou-san, thank you for finally letting us play! (bows)
 Yoshino: No problem. (laughs)
Takagaki: Aoyama’s played in one match before, but you could really feel he and Ichino were playing together as one during that match. Both of them were playing for every member of the second team then.
Saiga-san has also said that the ‘First years get all the best parts’ and ‘I want the hard-working upperclassmen to be appreciated more’. (Prince Animage Winter)
 Takagaki: That’s it exactly!
Yoshino: But it can’t be helped.
Takagaki: When they were thinking ‘Even if I can’t do it well, I’ll still do my best!’ first years who COULD do it came and stole the show. Enter Kageyama Hikaru (laughs).
Yoshino: He was told to try by the coach. ‘I think I can do that’ ‘Okay, go for it’. (laughs)
Konno: In some ways that’s typical of a soccer player.
Yoshino: Well, it’s nice to have a lot of different characters.
Takagaki: It’s probably because there’s so many characters we’ll run out of episodes. The second years probably have a lot of scenes where they’re practicing very hard that won’t appear in the anime.
 Konno: I wonder about that.
Takagaki: They’ve more than likely definitely accumulated a bunch of experiences than we haven’t seen. And in addition to that, I think the first years might not be their stimulus. Especially Kurama - he seems like a kid who thinks showing you’re putting in a lot of effort is uncool. Because he’s a kid he who tries to act cool quite a bit (laughs).
Next is Konno-san - you play the role of Kita Ichiban from Tengawara.
Yoshino: What a crazy awesome name. It sounds like the first storm of spring (laughs). Doesn’t Konno-kun have a lot of the best roles?
Konno: Maybe. But I often have roles that are in a lot of distress. (laughs) Another memorable role I had was Wanda from Kaiou Gakuen. The guy who used the keshin Onsoku no Varius.
Yoshino: That’s a better role than your main one. (laughs)
Takagaki: That’s so cool, summoning a keshin!
Konno: While we’re on the topic, I think the first keshin I summoned was with Shinoyama.
 Yoshino: Ahh, Mannouzaka’s keeper.
Konno: Yeah. The little kid with dark skin and trout lips. It was established that if he summoned his keshin just once, he lost all of his energy so when Shindou’s Fortissimo came he said ‘Without a keshin I can’t - gahhhhhh!’. He’s probably the first goalkeeper to be cut off in the middle of a sentence.
Yoshino:It’s kind of the same as Sangoku’s ‘Fence of - gahhhhhhhhhhh!’ (laughs)
Konno: So Sangoku is the first.
Takagaki: Ah, I also played a member of Kuro no Kishidan. A person called Amano who can’t see in front of himself thanks to his bangs at all. (laughs)
Yoshino: Although the gaps between his bangs are pretty wide.
Konno: That kind of mysterious vibe is fitting for Kuro no Kishidan. I was Kizaki. He has a hairstyle similar to Shishido’s.
So, if we turn the talk back to Kita.
Konno: Tengawara is a school controlled by Fifth Sector, and there are a lot of violent guys who use rough plays, and Kita is the only member who is in anyway close to Raimon. He’s a very respectable, decent kid, so he was an easy role to play. I could easily understand his way of thinking.
After the match it seems like Kita contacted Shindou to tell him that Tengawara were supporting Raimon.
Konno: In other words, those two have each other’s phone numbers! (laughs) Kita-kun is popular with a lot of the female cast, with Saiga-san always saying ‘Kita is a really good kid, a really good kid!’.
About characters from Endou’s story - Konno-san was Domon and Takagaki-san was Touko.
Takagaki: She doesn’t appear in the games, but when she became an adult Touko was one of the spectators of the Holy Road.
Konno: She took off her hat and wore a skirt.
Takagaki: I wonder if she’s still helping out her father prime minister Zaizen. Since she was already part of the special police when she was in middleschool.
 Konno: SP Fixers wasn’t it?
Takagaki: Naturally I also want her to continue with soccer, and I think I’d like her to help get girls more excited about soccer. In the world series there were no female teams, which I thought was definitely frustrating. But when she appeared again after an interval her hissatsuwazza had levelled up and that made me happily think, aah she’s still giving her all with soccer! Even if you’re a girl, you can still play soccer together with boys! Soccer has nothing to do with gender! That mindset was the kind of kid she symbolized. I think I want her to keep her passion for soccer even when she becomes an adult.
We have a lot of female readers who said they started playing soccer after seeing Touko, Rika and Reina.
Takagaki: Really? That makes me happy!
Yoshino: It’s become a soccer boom.
Konno: Ahh, Nadeshiko Japan. (*Pink Japan, girly Japan)
Takagaki: That’s right! If we could see a Nadeshiko boom over the next year, Touko may also possibly be involved… (laughs) But I’m happy that soccer is finally becoming a sport for girls.
Yoshino: Touko won’t enter the world of politics?
How about aiming for the first female prime minister?
Yoshino: (in English) YES WE CAN.
 Konno: That’s the president! (laughs)
Yoshino: Even if she doesn’t become the prime minister, she could promote sports.
 Takagaki: Yeah, she could!
In any case, Prime Minister Zaizen and Touko probably wanted to do something about Fifth Sector.
Takagaki: They were probably some of the first people affected by them… (laughs)
 Yoshino: Yeah. Whyyy, Touko?
Takagaki: Even though prime minister Zaizen should love soccer so much…
Yoshino: But wouldn’t the prime minister have changed?
Takagaki: But isn’t he still the prime minister in Danball Senki?
Konno: That’s right, he’s too busy with the battle in that world to do anything (laughs). Since Kudou Kantoku and Megane-kun are doing their best over here.
Yoshino: But at the end of the season those guys were working really hard behind the scenes, so just where were they during the story? (laughs)
If these 3 appeared in the movie…?
If these 3 also went to God Eden, which senpai would you like to see them train with?
Takagaki: Aoyama was part of Kabeyama’s team, going along with Sangoku-san’s practice. He didn’t really do his own training… (laughs). But I was really happy he protected a girl!
Konno: If they could have gone to God Eden… Since it’s an island Hamano would have wanted to go into the sea, wouldn’t he? Since his hobby is fishing in the sea.
Yoshino: Is it? Oi oi, the one we go to is just a fish pond, isn’t it? It’s not the sea at all, just a pool! (laughs)
Konno: I guess so (laughs). So he’d want to go see the sea. Call Tsunami-san to be his trainer!
Takagaki: Tsunami-san as a surfing instructor! That would be great!
Yoshino: Tsunami-san doesn’t appear in the main story at all, huh. Anyway, I guess Hayami would go along with that training too. And kind of freak out about it.
Speaking of Hayami, he’s the team’s fastest runner. Would he train himself that way?
Yoshino: But that’s not really shown in the anime, so I guess it doesn’t really matter. When the opponent has the ball, he starts panicking that he can’t chase them. Hayami, you can’t be like that! (laughs)
 Well then, what about Kurama?
Takagaki: I want him to train his shoot power! So he do the sandboard training with Tsurugi, Kageyama-kun and Nishiki, with Fubuki-san teaching them. When Fubuki visited them he said that Kurama made a good shoot full of his feelings, and when Endou first came he praised Kurama ‘As expected of a Raimon forward’. Even though he said something like ‘Tch!’ I think he was really happy.
Kurama looks like he’d fit in well in a dessert, so that’s appropriate.
Takagaki: That’s true. And his hissatsuwazza is a snake. Yeah it really feels like a dessert would suit Kurama.
Although the sandboard training was to improve their body balance.
Takagaki: Oh right. Since Kurama’s a technical forward, if he could do something to help increase his power he could use the Ultimate Thunder attack.

MIND-BODY POOL FITNESS
Evidence Based
This post is the second in our summer series introducing you to new exercise options. In each post I provide evidence based information and, if you find something piques your curiosity or invites you to try it, I’ll be thrilled. My goal with this series is to provide you with data and support in loving yourself healthy.
Did you know that the sensory-rich pool environment—soothing and simultaneously challenging—is an ideal setting for mindful movement and a welcome respite from digital stress? Fitness innovators have been creating mind-body pool fitness offerings in the water, with programs like paddleboard yoga, aquatic Pilates, Ai Chi and fusion classes.
What Is Mind-Body Pool Fitness?
Use of the term “mind-body” here doesn’t imply that other fitness forms are not mindful. Rather, mind-body indicates that the activity’s predominant objectives are to:
Intentionally coordinate breath with movement,
Emphasize precise alignment,
Challenge balance and centering,
Enhance kinesthetic and present-moment awareness.
This creates a more mindful, meditative state, while at the same time conditioning the body.
Healing Benefits of Water
Bruce Becker, MD, MS, director of the National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute and adjunct professor at Washington State University in Spokane, Washington, and other investigators studied the healing benefits of immersion in different temperatures of water. They discovered that immersion in “cool,” “neutral,” or “warm” water can benefit healthy individuals by:
Lowering blood pressure and increasing cardiac output and stroke volume (all water temperatures);
Strengthening respiratory muscles and thereby improving breathing capacity (all water temperatures);
Enhancing mood and relaxation (warm water)
The authors of this study suggest that these benefits are amplified when water immersion is combined with exercise.
YOUR MIND-BODY FAVORITES—IN THE POOL!
Yoga
Pool yoga can be a chance to explore the self-discovery that water offers if you have mobility limitations on land. “Most asanas can be adapted to water, but to me this is not the point of aqua yoga,” says water yoga pioneer Françoise B. Freedman, PhD, author of Aqua Yoga and founder of the Birthlight Trust, an educational charity based in the United Kingdom that has been offering water yoga for over 30 years. “Through mindfulness, we gain awareness of our rhythms in relation to the water environment.”
"More and more people are coming to the water for the meditative aspect. They want to be someplace where they can’t take their phones."  -- Jessie Benson, Founder FloYo.
Standup Paddleboard Yoga and Mat Pilates
These exercise forms are appealing if you are eager for a challenge but also want a more mindful experience. In 2012, Jessie Benson founded FloYo®, a paddleboard yoga program she describes as a workout that utilizes the core while connecting mind and body to create a strong physique and a clear mind.
Similarly, Pilates classes feature mat Pilates exercises performed on a floating board.
Benson says, “More and more people are coming to the water for the meditative aspect. They want to be someplace where they can’t take their phones. [Not everyone can do] a regular sitting meditation practice, and water attracts a broader range of people who want the clarity [that meditation can offer].”
Tai Chi and Ai Chi
Water-based programs inspired by tai chi and qigong may appeal to you if you are seeking restoration and recovery. Ai Chi is a globally popular program created by Jun Konno, president of Aqua Dynamics Institute in Japan. Ai Chi includes visualizations and affirmations and is based on three principles:
Deep diaphragmatic breathing
Concentration on form and body awareness
Acceptance that “how it turns out is the way it’s meant to be”
"Your individual path is unique. Listen to the wisdom of your body and the power of your intuition to discover what is good and right for you."  -- Shirley Archer, the Wellness Sensei
If Mind-Body Pool Fitness sounds like an interesting option to explore, do a search of your local area to find out what’s offered. I’d love to hear your experience if you take a class!
Until next time may you be at ease and peace and remember to love yourself healthy!
