Bucky caught his daughter and spun her in a circle. "Thank you so much, Kobik," he said. "This is my best birthday ever!"

Campus life means even the weirdest things appear to be completely normal.

The weather was finally decent enough to spend some time outside. Johnny was a fan of dragging a blanket and whatever teammates he could scrounge down to the quad to study. Perhaps it was because very little work ever got done that way. He was far more likely to abandon his books to get a game of Frisbee going, or to chat up a group of cheerleaders who'd come out for some extra practice.

There tended to be more actual work done when Kate was there though. He'd readily admit she was a lot smarter than he was, and also sort of good for him that way. He was stretched out on his back on the blanket to watch the various activities, an arm tucked under his head, the book he'd stopped reading a while ago resting on his chest. "Surely you're not talking about that cat on a leash in the tree. Not weird at all." Despite the leash and the person holding it trying to coax it down, it did not seem in any particular hurry to move.

Clint waited patiently for Kobik to go. When she came out, he was about to remind her to wash her hands, but she ran to do it herself. So he just followed along as she washed up and ran outside, beelining straight for Bucky and slamming into his legs.

Bucky laughed and picked her up, tossing her in the air and catching her again. "I bet they do," he said. "Shall we go see and get you filled up?"

Kobik squirmed a little on top of Clint, but held herself together until they got to the restrooms. She took Clint's hand and ran towards the stalls. Once she did her business she washed her hands and ran back out towards Bucky.

"All done! Do ya think they have chicken nuggets?" She asked as she hung off of his leg, watching as the people went by. There was so much she wanted to see still, and do.

A lot of life happened between the commission date and now, but I'm very proud of how this turned out, and I know that 2021 Rebecca wouldn't have been able to create this, so the time was worth it. (No offense 2021 Rebecca, we've just grown as an artist.)

This was a long road, and now finally came to an end and closer to his happily ever after with Clint. While on a mission, a little girl named Kobik was found. Turns out she was the Cosmic Cube that had became sentient- an all powerful and God-like little girl who was under the guidance of some very bad people.

Thankfully that situation got handled and all that was left was Kobik. There was a lot of talk about what to do with her, most of which Bucky didn't agree with.

Bucky saw a lot of himself in the little girl. Being manipulated to do the wrong thing, turned into a weapon of mass destruction. Being treated like something evil. Bucky was better than that, and so was Kobik. Yes she was powerful, more powerful than any super hero he has come across up until then. But she was also just a little girl who wanted to be loved.

He and Clint had a long discussion. Bucky had little sisters he used to take care of, but it was nothing compared to this. Still, the men decided to adopt Kobik much to Bucky's delight. It was a long process for everyone to prove their ability to handle this, and while waiting they set her up a bedroom and play area. Even a little swing set for outside. It was all very exciting.

And today they were bringing Kobik home. Bucky looked over at Clint as they drove to where Kobik was being held. "Pretty crazy, huh?"

"Well," Bucky said, as he watched the pancake cook. "We have to wait for the pancake to cook. You can tell when it's ready because it gets lots of bubbles on the surface."

It didn't take too long before the pancake was bubbling thanks to how thin the batter was. "Looks about right don't you think?" he said. "So then we flip it."

He flipped the pancake and revealed the Rudolph pancake. It wasn't perfect, but it was clearly the reindeer that Kobik had been trying to draw. "Look at that, kiddo!" Bucky said. "You're an artist!"

Kobik paused for a moment as she considered what Bucky said.

She did trust him. He was her dad and best friend- of course she trusted him. And if she knew one thing about her dad, was that he was great at making pancakes.

But maybe if things didn't turn out she could just fix it. She doubted she would, but just in case. "I trust you," Kobik nodded and did as he instructed. It looked silly to her, just a brown blob, but the magic would happen soon.

When she was done she looked up at Bucky, "now what?"
