This is a typical Japanese phrase used in addition to New Year’s greetings.

“Happy New Year” is 「あけましておめでとう（ございます）/Ake-mashite omedeto(gozai-masu)」 in Japanese, just for your information.

羽子板(はごいた/Hagoita): One of the old girls’ games. The winner writes something on the cheek of the loser.

現金な（げんきんな/Genkinna）: calculating, mercenary, self-serving (It’s not a compliment, but not such a bad word. It’s a word used lightly to describe someone who suddenly becomes motivated as soon as they learn of the reward.)

Following picture shows a typical Japanese New Year's day. We eat special foods like Osechi and Ozoni. Ozoni is a soup with "mochi"(rice cake), and what goes into soup varies considerably depending on the region and each family.

Oh, what kind of vibes does using uchi give, then? Also, isn’t it typically used as like… Our household, or something silimar? Is there a you pronoun specific to hiroshima-ben?

uchi is used to mean household/family/in-group in standard japanese, yes! it literally means 'inside', but in that use typically its used in combination with no (possessive) and can be translated best as 'our.' for example, uchi no ko is 'our/my household's child.' in one piece it's also frequently used to refer to crewmates- uchi no senchou for 'our captain', uchi no sogeki for 'our sniper,' etc. i misread hibari's first lines of dialogue at first because i wasn't expecting the dialect and initially assumed she was using uchi to refer to herself and helmeppo collectively, to give you an example.

i'm pretty sure in dialectal use as a first-person pronoun it is still mostly used by women, so it does feel feminine, and maybe a little slangy or provincial (since that's the vibe often assigned to the western dialects generally)? because i haven't seen it used this way often it's kind of difficult for me to say.

How the Todorokis call each other (Part 4)

So this is a recap of my previous posts (part 1, part 2, part 3) which merely list which terms they use with also listed the simplest translation possible. If you aren’t familiar with Japanese I recommend you to look at the previous posts to get a more accurate translation of the words listed.

Also I first listed the word/words they use to refer to the person in question regularly, then added an extra section to list the words they had used only once or twice, or solely under certain circumstances. Note that in the extra section the words are usually reported decontextualized, but context is OFTEN important to understand why they were used, so if you’re interested to a specific word I recommend you to go check the context in which it was used during the story in the previous posts.

Notably from this list I’ve left out how the Todoroki pluralize nouns because too tied to circumstances (if you're curious you can find it in part 3).

Also although I mentioned it in the other posts I’ve left out of this list how the Todorokis call other people because it was a guide nowhere near complete.
