This is my childhood Madame Alexander "Amy" doll (from Little Women)! I happened to come across her and thought I'd take pictures.

I wasn't into dolls as a little girl, I only wanted animal toys like My Little Ponies, Pound Puppies, etc. However I was enchanted by this doll when I saw her in the Sears catalog and put her on my Christmas list. (This was not influenced by the book "Little Women" at all as I hadn't read it at the time. I just thought the doll was pretty.)

So I was very pleased to receive Amy for Christmas (even though one of her sleepy eyes would stick in place from day one). But then I was like . . . what do you actually DO with dolls? The only dolls I had at the time that I played with were a Rose Petal Place doll, a Strawberry Shortcake doll, and a single Barbie doll, who were sized so that they could play with my My Little Ponies. (Barbie was the villain trying to kidnap the MLPs, Lemon Meringue was her minion, and Rose Petal was an ally to the ponies.)

But Amy was out of scale to all that and also seemed more . . . traditional? So I was like, "Well, I guess you're supposed to have a tea party with this kind of doll. That's what little girls do in books."

So I gathered Amy and a few stuffed animals and had a tea party with sugar water and vanilla wafers. It was incredibly boring and I never really played with Amy after that. So she has remained mint after all these years, sleeping in her box with her beddy-bye eyes, even if one of them sticks.
