i forgot how engaging the Knuckle & Shoot vs. Gon & Killua part of the chimera ant arc was just bc of all the crazy shit that happens later. like i think Togashi really effectively sets up a mirror between these 2 pairs that gets elaborated on in the palace invasion.
obviously their personality traits line up very well and thats why the matchups were the way they were but like Knuckle wanting to join the extermination team for the purpose of seeing in person whether the ants "deserve" to be killed reminds me of Gon giving ant officers a nonlethal loss condition and telling Kite he won't respect people who trash talk their friends. & like Shoot being maimed then discarded by Youpi which causes Knuckle to get personally offended by the disrespect reminds me of when Razor nearly killed Killua and Gon was about 2 more bad moments away from wanting to blow his head off, or when he broke Illumi's arm back in the Exam. similarly Knuckle gets in over his head striving for redemption against Youpi and then it's literally Killua who pulls his ass out of the fire.
i dont really have any intelligent elaboration to make theres like nothing cooking in this pan but i can see it. the ingredience . u feel?

Ok so not an update but...
I got food poisoning yesterday from a fish I ate (yuck) so I had to stay home for the day but I finally got around to watching the Chimera Ant Arc. I’ve been putting it off since it was so long and I heard it was sad.
I’m stopped right before Meruem and Netero’s fight but, holy crap, Chimera Ant arc? More like ✨Sweetchup’s Simp Arc✨.
Don’t worry I’ll explain 😳:
So first episode of Arc, fricking Kite man. I’m not a fan of long haired or white haired anime boys but once he started talking and being all caring. I was like G O N E, brain empty only this man. (I’m so sad he’s dead)
Then, we meet the Ants. Some of them I don’t like (especially the ones the killed pokkle and ponzu) but some of them like Colt and even Zazan (she be pretty) I was like “Omg stop making me want to like the villains”
Of course included in the ants we have the Royal guards.
Pitou (I’m mad they killed kite) but I can’t help but simp. The fact she says Nyan with almost every sentence they speak and that outfit, just Simp material right there for me.
Pouf, I’m iffy on. His personality is amazing for the plot but he angers me sometimes. However, I can’t help but be like you a beautiful man sir, keep up your work🦋. I’m also a sucker for violins
Youpi, we didn’t get to see him a lot compared to the other guards (at least as far as I’ve gotten) but I was simping over him as well. I’m a little scared after he started transforming though 😨.
Okay back on track to the plot however, when Gon and Killua ran away after Kite was attacked, we meet their soon to be teammates/friends of this arc.
At first, I wasn’t a big fan of Knuckle and Shoot when I saw them. I simped for Palm right away
I think it was the way they were designed it just made me say “eh”.
Though, of course, like everything else in this arc when we got to seeing their personalities. Man I got knocked over (someone call me an ambulence).
Knuckle and the dogs 🥺. As well as how he tries to act tough but is a big softy. This boy snatched me by my hair.
I caught my breath after that and was like Okay, Shoot can’t be any better than anyone I’ve simped for so far.
But he proved me wrong. So wrong!!! When they said he was was faint of heart and he couldn’t hurt attack Killua or Gon. I was just—
✨💕perfection💕✨
As we kept going on with the Arc however, I was like oh No... oh no no no.
Like I’m a major Shalnark Simp. I’m simping for these boys too hard. This isn’t going good for me, I can’t abandon my bestest boi like this.
Then.... as if this Arc couldn’t get any better, episode 96 and 97 came around and we got the Phantom Troupe Vs Chimera Ants.
These episodes are my lord and savior that saved me from abandoning my best boi (I’ve seen his clips and parts of the episodes before but the full episodes still was awesome.)
We also got to see Kalluto. Cute kid. 100% would adopt if given the chance.
Finally, the only other thing I can think of with my brain being dead from simping too hard, is how cute Komugi and Meruem are together.
Now before you attack me saying Komugi is like 14 or something like that. I found out she isn’t (Another Tumblr did the math and explains it better) . When talking to Meruem who used her Gongi technique, she mentioned she made it 10 years ago.
So, since like the youngest she could enter in a national tournament was like 8 or 10? If she was a child prodigy. Then doing the math, she should at least be 18 to 20. So she’s a young adult, so it’s fine.
Point proven~~
10/10 would recommend watching the whole Simp arc all at once if you want to melt your brain.
Thanks for listening to my TedTalk.

This post is gonna be hella damn messy but bear with me.
If I had to choose my personal favorite arc in hxh, it would be Yorknew city arc. I rewatched chimera ant arc and I love it really. But if I had to compare the pacing, ost and how much it kept me on edge then I would definitely go for Yorknew city arc. Yorknew city arc was about comparison between the characters while Chimera ant arc was about the contradictory within the characters + questioning humanity on the basis of class discrimination which they did brilliantly.
There are some things that I actually wanted to talk about Chimera ant arc.
Shoot and Youpi.
If you go to see, the character that fought Youpi head on, although did extremely minor injury, was Shoot. The biggest worrywart of the arc was even ready to fight the monster all alone even while barely being able to move. He made sure he wouldn't faint because if he fainted, hotel rafflesia would deactivate. I fucking LOVED this man for what he did. Youpi also was my favorite Royal Guard. Youpi was a definitely hard to deal with character considering how much he kept on evolving and I fucking loved that.
Knuckle and his ability.
If only Knuckle wasn't such a softie for everyone and everything, Chapter 7: Bankruptcy would have turned out to be the best ability in this arc. He deactivated it against Youpi simply because Youpi complimented them and showed a sign of being humane, completely forgetting the fact that Youpi almost butchered and humiliated Shoot. His ability is so amazing, I truly loved it. What I noticed was however, contradictory to Shoot, a worrywart, who faced head on against Youpi, Knuckle was the one of the only ones uninjured because he kept escaping from one place to another. This contradicts his confidence.
Knov and Morel.
Knov alongside Morel insulted Killua when he was introduced initially however he was the one with the weakest willpower. I felt pathetic when I was watching his breakdown. Morel on the other hand had no morals.
Shaiapouf.
Annoying as fuck. Literally. I hate this guy with all my heart.
Neferpitou.
I liked how they're character kept on changing and fluctuating while still being how they were but nonetheless, I didn't like their character. I will have to admit tho, Dr. Blythe is an amazing ability.
Palm.
One of the other characters I loved during this arc was Palm. Unlike her mentor, Palm wasn't afraid. She got scared, got caught, was turned into a Chimera Ant, her memories were operated, she became their experiment yet she broke through it. Not only that but above all, she kept Komugi safe and was one of the only three people that got Mereum's respect. She saw through Pouf's plan and honestly I wanted her to defeat pouf after what they did to her.
Gon.
The most contradicting character of this arc. I can't explain how I felt watching him. Him losing all sense of reasoning, disregarding Killua. Like you are just stuck in between when you think about Gon in this arc.
Killua.
The only character that actually wasn't contradicting was Killua. He had an amazing character development in this arc. He was the in between of the whole YinYang going on in the arc. The one who had valid sense of reasoning and went on to save whoever and however possible.
One thing I noticed during the fights against Royal Guards was, if you are fast or have teleportation ability or can go invisible, then you are able to defeat them. Knuckle escape not once but TWICE from Youpi's explosions without being injured because of how fast he was. Invisibility isn't as much effective as being fast or having teleportation is. This can be seen during when Meleron was taking away Morel and Youpi could identify them because Morel was bleeding.
I saw a lot of comments and stuff on videos that Phantom Troupe wouldn't have a chance against the Royal Guards, which I think is overestimating the Royal Guards because 1) none of the members in the Phantom Troupe have shown their full capacity and 2) like I stated before being fast or having teleportation can be a huge plus point in the fights.
So, if it were Phantom Troupe vs Royal Guards, then it would have been.
Youpi vs Feitan; Shaiapouf vs Machi and Neferpitou vs Phinks.
All three fights in Presence of Chrollo.
Mereum and Komugi's last scene killed me and ripped my heart apart. Throughout the Chimera Ant arc that was the only scene I cried. I cried myself to sleep and I still can't stop thinking about it. But if I had to choose my personal favorite scene from the arc, it would be hands down the scene where Mereum remembered Komugi. The scenery, them playing Gungi with no one around. That whole scene symbolises that for Mereum, only him and Komugi mattered, he didn't see anything else and the scenery indicates that whenever he is with Komugi, he is at peace, its his most peaceful time. And I think, thats truly beautiful.
I think I am finished with the mess I have written lmao anyways—
"Komugi, are you there?"

As the baby gets more upset and her Stand's powers strengthen, her stroller ends up rolling away and into a nearby river. Joseph, upset that Josuke sees him as a burden, decides to act by slitting open his wrist, using his blood to help Josuke find the baby in the river. Finral hiding nearby decides to run away to save himself but after hearing Asta shouting about never giving up he chooses to stay. Vetto decides to teach Asta a lesson by killing Luck, Magna, Kahono, Kiato and Gio, but they are saved by Vanessa who moves them out of the way and traps Vetto with her strings. Vetto breaks free and attacks but Finral reveals himself and sends the spell through his portals back at Vetto. At Vanessa’s direction Noelle keeps Luck, Magna, Kahono, Kiato and Gio safe inside her water shield. Finral is still terrified but Vanessa rallies his bravery by promising to hug him to her breasts if they win. She also helps Asta grip his sword by wrapping his hand with strings. As the battle begins Vetto finds his spells continually redirected by Finral’s portals so he cannot fight long range, he also cannot fight Asta hand to hand as Asta’s manoeuvrability is being augmented by Vanessa’s strings and Asta manages to cut Vetto’s cheek.

thinking about self-indulgent changes to the Chimera Ant arc
I keep thinking of how it would go if Hisoka and Illumi showed up and I think it’s not only because they would have been really useful but because there are some genuinely good Chimera Ants and so I’d like there to be some genuinely awful humans
like the humans do some really awful things but it all has the tone of “this is what needs to be done, this is In The Name Of Good” and besides Gon’s breakdown no one is really that upset by what the humans do
and iunno I had this mental image of the fight with Youpi where he has his whole revelation that protecting Meruem is what’s most important to him and he genuinely respects Knuckle and Morel for their dedication to their principles and he spares them and turns away...
... and then Illumi comes out of nowhere with the Zoldyck Heart Grab and kills him and then thanks Knuckle for the distraction before wandering off drenched in blood to look for Killua again
and Knuckle’s like “dude what the fuck he was backing down” and Illumi’s like “??? I know???? that’s why I killed him?????”
also this means that Hisoka actually knows what’s going on during this whole two months which gives him proper emotional conflict in the Election Arc, because he’s seen first-hand just how fucked up Gon is and how much Killua loves Gon (even better if Hisoka’s there for the “心中” line), and it also provides an opportunity for insight into his relationship with Illumi and why maintaining that relationship is equally as important to him as Gon
and in the end he still doesn’t get anywhere close to being a good person because he’s Hisoka and why would you ever want to change the Ultimate Murderhobo, especially when he’s 100% aware that he’s fucked up and completely embraces it, but even murderhobos can have emotional depth
plus it also gives Illumi some opportunity for development and me being me I love when a character is offered the chance to gain some self-awareness and become a better person, and instead takes one look at it and sprints headlong in the opposite direction, because actively refusing development can also be a development in itself
(also: Hisoka vs Pouf would be the best goddamn fight ever okay)
(just an entire episode of sass and sadism)
(especially if they lowkey weird each other out)

After defeating the ghost, the ghost begs him to enjoy his youth before it disappears. Keith tells them that he met Eren's father Grisha twenty years ago outside Wall Maria, suffering from amnesia. Grisha learned about life within the walls, offered his abilities as a doctor, and later married Carla who gave birth to their son Eren. During the Fall of Shiganshina, after learning about his wife's death, Grisha took Eren into the woods where Keith later found the boy wearing a key around his neck. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable EP#11 - Red Hot Chili Pepper, Part 1: Jotaro and Okuyasu head off to rendezvous with Joseph's ship while Josuke and Koichi stay on the docks, where they are confronted by Chili Pepper's user, Akira Otoishi. Otoishi hides Chili Pepper in the underground wires to launch surprise attacks on Josuke from all directions, but Josuke manages to turn the surrounding concrete back into coal tar, allowing him to predict Chili Pepper's movements. Angered, Otoishi uses all the electricity in Morioh Town in order to power Chili Pepper up. However, Josuke manages to trap Chili Pepper in a tire and trick into bursting out, causing the air inside to blow him into the ocean, upon which the combination of the ocean's size and the conductivity of saltwater cause the electricity-based Stand to dissolve. Otoishi manages to survive and sneak onto Joseph's boat disguised as a member of the Speedwagon Foundation, but Okuyasu manages to stop him through sheer dumb luck, allowing Josuke to finally meet his father.
My Hero Academia EP#25 - Todoroki vs. Bakugo: Todoroki is still unsure if he should be using his left side. As the match starts, Todoroki attacks Bakugo with his ice power. Bakugo becomes angry as he wants Todoroki to fight him with both of his sides. After Izuku's cheer, Todoroki decides to use his left side but when Bakugo is about to use his "Howitzer Impact", Todoroki suddenly stops using his left side. The attack pushes Todoroki out of bounds, resulting in Bakugo being named the winner. Angered, Bakugo still goes after Todoroki, but Midnight stops him. After the match, All Might gives everyone medals. Iida already left to see his brother at the hospital and did not attend the award ceremony. After everyone went home to recover, Todoroki finally decides to go see his mother whom he had not seen for many years.
Black Clover EP#45 - The Guy Who Doesn't Know When to Quit: Vetto managed to block Luck and Magna’s attack and is unhurt while Luck and Magna collapse. As Vetto is about to kill them Asta blocks his attack and manages to slash his stomach. Kiato and Asta fight him together. Vanessa and Gauche both encounter Midnight Sun mages. Gauche’s enemy wields a magic chain capable of destroying his mirrors. Gauche is forced to hide and he comes across a crab previously seen throughout the caves. He tricks the mage into believing he summoned his mirror clone but then gets behind him and defeats him easily. Both the crab and the fake clone are revealed to have been the recently arrived Grey using transformation magic. Grey leads Gauche back to Charmy but they are trapped by another Midnight Sun mage that begins draining their magic. Gauche recalls the lesson he learned from Asta, that friends protect each other. Grey manages to transform a boulder into a large piece of meat while Gauche shouts at Charmy that the mage is trying to steal her dinner. This snaps the food obsessed Charmy right out of her enchanted sleep and she furiously summons a giant Sheep Chef that crushes the mage. Grey, who is usually seen as a large man breathing smoke, suddenly runs out of magic and reverts to his real body, a young woman with short blue hair and grey eyes who is embarrassed by people seeing her real body. Vetto overpowers Asta and is furious that Asta wields the Demon Dweller and Demon Slayer swords as they do not belong to him. He almost breaks Asta’s arm but he is saved by the arrival of Noelle and Kahono.
Hunter x Hunter: The Chimera Ant Arc EP#118 - A × False × Rage: Ikalgo infiltrates the palace's lower levels to look for Palm with no success. While returning to the surface, his cover is blown and he finds himself trapped in the underground with an enemy. Youpi's plan works, but just before he could kill his opponent, Killua paralyzes the ant with a lighting bolt and steps in to fight him.
One-Punch Man EP#12 Finale - The Strongest Hero: Boros continues to fight with Saitama, which leads to Boros losing an arm. Meanwhile, Mumen Rider, Stinger, and Lightning Max rescue the last of the City A survivors. Tanktop Master tries to attack the ship by throwing a piece of rubble at it, only for Tatsumaki to throw dozens of pieces of rubble at the ship. The fight between the heroes and Melzargard concludes when Bang recovers and destroys his final marble, killing him. The fight between Saitama and Boros continues and it is revealed that Boros has regenerative powers. Eventually, they are both forced to use their most powerful moves. Saitama emerges victorious, and Boros admits he was not even close to Saitama. After the fight, Drive Knight warns Genos that Metal Knight is his enemy. Amai Mask appears and blames the S-class heroes for the destruction of City A, nearly causing a fight which is interrupted by Metal Knight who emerges to salvage parts of the ship. Meanwhile, Superalloy Blackluster discovers alien survivors whom Amai Mask promptly executes. Genos sees his past self in Amai Mask. Saitama emerges from the ship to find Tornado having a tantrum, and Genos quickly begins an argument with her; Bang interrupts before it can escalate into a fight. The parts Metal Knight salvages from the ship are used to rebuild the hero HQ which takes the place of City A which is wiped off the map. The A and S Class heroes are invited to stay in the newly rebuilt hero HQ. In the post-credits, Saitama destroys Pluton: King of the Underworld with one punch, much to his irritation.
Samurai Jack EP#07 - Jack and the Three Blind Archers: Jack learns of a powerful wishing well that can return him to the past, but must find a way past the three deadly archers who protect it.
