i see it often that people do not see laios liking kabru, but in reality laios does like kabru! quite a lot for a guy that (from his perspective) he just met! laios forgetting kabrus exact name is not evidence of disinterest in any way--hes only heard it a couple of times, he struggles with small details (unless you want to argue laios also doesnt give a shit about marcille, chilchuck and senshi, he also forgets small details about them. if you do think this, i think dungeon meshi may be too advanced for you. stick to bluey.), and the man has autism. like near explicitly.

laios offers food from their limited supplies because kabru showed an interest in eating monsters, and makes him an omelette so he can have something to eat even though other food was already being prepared. he listens to kabrus criticism of his behavior and mindset in trying to protect falin even though she was straight up killing people, and tries to drag kabru to safety. he watches kabru defuse the situation between himself and toshiro masterfully, and confides in him how hurt he is that toshiro is so angry and how he mustve done something truly awful to upset him like that. when kabru tells him that meeting him was the best part of his time in the dungeon, laios agrees and says its the same for him (remember: laios doesnt do empty platitudes well--if he said it, he meant it).

when kabru leaves, we get three fucking panels in a row of laios staring after him, flexing the hand kabru was just holding, and reflecting on kabrus words ("next time..?")

when kabru shows up again deep in the dungeon, chilchuck is suspicious, but laios is so excited to see him that he throws caution to the wind and lets kabru hold his hand again despite seconds later crossing succubus off his list of shapeshifters that could be appearing as kabru--a carelessness around monsters and danger laios rarely exhibits. when kabru gives his warning about the canaries, laios is grateful. he notices how often kabru saves his skin

when lycion reveals that kabru lied about wanting to eat the omelette laios made, it breaks his heart because he made that with love! he made it for kabru, and kabru didnt like it, and now he knows kabru was just playing at friendship to use him. that breaks his heart, hes distraught, but he doesnt have time to be hurt about it when marcille needs his help urgently so he turns to run to her. he apologizes to kabru and tries to leave again. he isnt listening to what kabru is saying here because kabru was just revealed as a liar and because it doesnt really cohere (kabru is stuttering and speaking in broken sentences as he tries to explain about the dungeons power) and he needs to save marcille

he doesnt believe kabru wanted to be his friend, because who would? why would laios be special enough, loveable enough, to go through the pains kabru went through, just to be his friend? but when kabru makes the intensity of his desire known, laios promises to feed him again, at a proper restaurant --and again, food is care for laios, to feed someone is to love them. marcille is still his priority bc she is in real danger but he means what he says, he really does want to start over with kabru and be real friends with him

once we hit the resolution of the story, kabru near glues himself to laios, helping him and trying to cement himself as a right-hand man, and making known his intent to support laios no matter what. in the medieval manuscript style epilogue, kabru is one of two friends that stick by laios as he becomes king. both marcille and kabru become the people closest to him (besides falin of course), two friends who will always support him, always let him know when hes fucked up and theyre mad at him, two friends who he can rely on. laios did not have to accept kabru as an advisor, he did not have to ask him to stay with him. he did that because after everything, he trusts kabru now, and knows he can count on him

while laios doesnt give any big monologues about what he likes about kabru, its very clear he does, and we know what things laios values in other people. he appreciates kabrus social skills (very clear in the post canon comic in the adventurers bible), his intelligence, that kabru WANTS to be around him and understand him even though its difficult, his strength, and frankly he does appreciate his charm (three fucking panels straight of staring after him). laios really values people with specialized skillsets who are willing to tell him frankly what they think and advise him in areas he is weak in (something we see in his relationship with... i was gonna say namari but its everyone. he does this with everyone he likes. and in the resolution kabru does this CONSTANTLY he does not go a panel without giving laios his professional opinion on how to deal with people).

in conclusion: arent you hungry, kabru? let laios make something for you

can be pretty eager to share you the history he's known, if you're in class and seem struggling looking at a textbook he'll can easily help you. it's just a bit strange because you can sometimes forget that lilia has lived through a lot of these experiences. its so bizarre?? when he chuckles and thinks back like "let me see... oh yes, i remember that."

he compliments you all the time, he thinks you're simply adorable. he is quite observant too; he'll notice some changes you might've did to yourself or a hairstyle you tried differently. he's offering you his own accessories, rings, necklaces, earrings, hair pins- it's funny especially if you two have contrasting taste of styles. but he loves it if you'd accept and wear them. he loves seeing you in them. it's also sooo convenient for him because he's now easily matching you in some way. Whenever they are doing bad (and only when theyre alone), they stop walking normally entirely. Just held up by their vines like a puppet on a string. Maneuvering through their apartment like a lethargic Doc Ock. If they were in actual pursuit of someone/hunting someone down they would probably move just like miss Olivia Octavius Spiderverse. There’s a notable stillness when they stand, it’s incredibly uncanny. It's a frequent occurrence that they're so motionless that you would mistake them for an object out of the corner of your eye, like they’re rooted in place— Until they suddenly start to fidget - it's quite a sudden change then: Rocking back and forth on their feet, tapping rhythms into the ground, one hand drumming their fingers against their hips or thighs. the other hand on their waist; moving their hands all over their body: intertwined hands over their chest, framing it, or over their stomach. brushing back their hair or playing with it. both hands placed on the back of their waist as they look around. They frequently check up or reapply lipstick when there's no one around.

I think this gif does a good job showcasing how they'd sit The way Limone sits is surprisingly elegant. (Until they start to fidget again) Once again good posture: chest pushed out a little, shoulders back, hands in their lap. Although they might end up fully leaned forward by the end of a conversation. Arms propped up on the table or their lap, cleavage pushed together because of it. Unconsciously trying to get as close to the other person as possible. Enthusiastically gesturing while talking and totally engrossed while listening. I can also see them draped over- or in someone’s lap (or the other way around.) by the end of a night.

Limone is very expressive for someone with the emotional capacity of a walnut. They usually always smile and quickly revert back to that smile - whenever they’re in their usual euphoric mood. I don’t see that change much, not even when they’re alone. Maybe their smile is a little smaller and less intense without someone to focus it on. They are still plenty expressive despite that. They will pout easily when something doesn’t go their way, scrunch their mouth up or purse their lips in confusion. Whine when briefly unhappy or annoyed and prone to rubbing or scratching at their neck when in discomfort. They grin when elated - with any big open mouthed, smiles. Chuckling or laughter - hidden behind their hand, to conceal their black tongue. They really don’t try to restrain or hide any of their expressions otherwise. They only have two emotional states so a change in demeanor is extremely easy to notice. Put them in front of Lilla, in the forest, start making them go cold or god forbid- angry and their smile drops entirely. It’s not deliberate. Their emotional state just works like a switch. It might as well be like their emotiveness has been put on ice.

i know its an older post but irt that incest post sometimes i feel like ppl just dont and cannot get it until it happens to them. i couldnt even comprehend it as a possibility until i was 14 staying at my uncles house for a while and i still cant comprehend it as a thing that happened to me sometimes. i think its bc ppl feel security with their families in that sense— even if theyre abused in other ways, its like, “well, i know them and they’d still never do THAT.”

perhaps its bc we are still not educated about the dangers of incest as children. ever. we are taught stranger danger. we’re taught what inappropriate touch is. and when we’re a little older we’re taught to recognize grooming behaviors, but we’re never taught about what its like when it comes from family members— and what’s more we’re taught to assume the best from family members, to think of them as the exception to inappropriate touch or behaviors, when they DO make us uncomfortable instead of recognizing those behaviors as red flags. then one day it becomes too late, like it did with me. and maybe that contributes to the idea that its a non-possibility in some people, that it only happens in fiction.

the most i’ve ever seen presented to children as a red flag irt incest is the idea of a mother’s boyfriend or a stepparent acting inappropriately, but that still comes from the angle of “you havent known them for as long so this means they could also be a predator.”

we still don’t fully address what the commonly cited statistic “most sexual abuse comes from someone the survivor knows” MEANS. its not just friends. not just partners. its your family, too. its people you’ve known all your life.

hi sorry this took a bit to answer that post IS from a while ago and i wasnt sure how to respond, because i have fortunately never experienced that type of abuse myself and dont have much to add beyond agreement. i didnt want to just leave this in my inbox though since its clear you put a lot of thought into it.

i think a lot of the opportunities for incestuous abuse stem from the traditional family structure not actually prioritizing protection or comfort, but control that feels threatened every time somebody tries to bring it up. nobody wants to actually prevent it because that would mean acknowledging family as a potential threat, as well as breaking down the ways the controlling of sex and ownership by said family is already normalized in culture (ex. fathers vigorously defending their daughters virginity, etc). this is all why imo discussions on this should go hand in hand with childrens rights and body autonomy, but even in these discussions its rare to see it actually brought up

so, its just as important to him as it is to rodion that hes Much younger than nikto and hes so fresh in this environment of war. nikto likes the power dynamics he likes that rodion looks to him for that comfort & learning especially. its not healthy, but many of the ways nikto looks at rodion are not healthy. there's a lot of wanting to Own rodion and leave a mark on him. and its like. so many of their issues stem from nikto constantly thinking about how if he Wasn't Him as he is Now if he was him from Before becoming Nikto their relationship would be so much different. he believes if he was just a hot, older man rodion would have been attracted to him immediately, fucked him immediately, but also seen a notnikto-nikto flirt around and fuck others and never felt like They'd need a relationship.

he's so stuck on thinking that rodion Only wants him because he feels like he can also baby Him because nikto is so visibly fucked up and Needs Help. he feels resentment about like a perceived pity even if rodion has never actually shown him pity. he does not feel attractive and worthy of someone Wanting him (esp not someone so conventionally attractive and easily likeable) so the fact that rodion does is conflicting to him. and also all of this is working against him.

rambling about some of my aromantic spectrum headcanons below

knife is arospec and suitcase is aromantic and theyre in a queerplatonic relationship. knife wouldn't want to ever be tied down in a traditional relationship. he could accept casual dates, but ultimately finds more fulfillment in his closest confidants. suitcase desires a dynamic where she can fully entrust every part of herself with someone. they're each others' main person post-finale and can act as caretakers to one another (like if suitcase is experiencing her hallucinations or when knife is feeling depressed)

nickel is aroflux and balloon is arospec and they don't have a label for their relationship, they dont feel the need for one bc at the end of the day they deeply care about each other a lot. nickel struggles with his identity because at first he internalizes it as a flaw of sorts, but balloon helps him realize what aromanticism is and how expansive of an identity it is. they're complicated bc hashtag communication issues. balloon is very comfortable with his identity and feels more loose with how he interprets relationship dynamics. at the end of the day, they both desire someone they can have a good time with and someone they can trust.

oj is arospec and paper is gray-romantic. others might see them as a typical romantic relationship, they're unsure how to define themselves, they're best friends first and foremost because of how long they've known each other. oj took a while to realize he might have some sort of non-platonic feelings for paper because he unconsciously assumes everyone is arospec to a degree. paper sometimes daydreams about relationships, but almost never actually pursues it. it took them a while to communicate how they were feeling towards each other. paper and oj could be frog and toad if we tried hard enough.

apple is arospec and marshmallow is demi-romantic. their relationship blurs the lines (they probably wouldn't know what a qpr is and i don't think they would label themselves that way, they just know they're most happy with each other regardless if others perceive it as platonic or romantic) apple wouldn't register that she's arospec bc she truly doesn't think about it at all, she knows she likes marshmallow in some way and never knows how to verbalize it. marshmallow could never do casual relationships/flings, she has to be very close with someone and even then, it takes a long time for those feelings to build up and she wouldn't know how to define them. all they know is that they're dedicated to each other and wouldn't change that for the world.

test tube is aromantic and wouldn't want a qpr, she's very comfortable being single and is very dedicated to her friends and scientific endeavors. science is her love in a way and that's where she feels most passionate in life. she wants to be the best friend she could be first and foremost.

fan doesn't label himself (the closest label would likely be gray-aro or demi-romantic but he doesn't think of it too much) he probably had a hard time understanding this about himself because it almost never comes up in his life and his fixations take up most of his time. his focus in life is detaching himself from the identity of the show and regaining a better understanding of himself.

mepad and mephone are arospec too (but not because theyre robots). mepad doesn't feel romantic feelings and finds more fulfillment from helping the contestants and being the best advisor he can be. if he lived life outside of the show and without the restrictions of being in meeple, he would be that friendly neighbor that lends a hand and be lost in his own world of interests. mephone on the other hand has trouble even making friends, if someone were to flirt with him he would be more confused than anything. mephone feels more fulfilled by indulging in his creative interests. mephone also now has 3gs for company and focusing on his brother bond would be his main priority in life.

I'm looking for advice. I'm looking to get a partner pokemon of my own, but the only experience I have is with my family's buneary. I've always loved scolipedes, but I've also heard that pidoves are friendly and intelligent pokemon... do you have tips for either of these, or general advice for a new solo pokemon owner?

i may be a bit biased lol...but pidove make great first pokemon to raise on your own! i recommend getting at least two to start so that they can help keep each other company, because they're social little guys. pidove are kind of well known for not being the brightest...but they have one of the most amazing memories of any pokemon! so they're not gonna be big problem solvers, but simple puzzle toys and memory games are great ways to entertain them. theyre definitely friendly- my pidove love sitting on my head or shoulder!

scolipede's tougher. i don't usually recommend poison types as a first pokemon, and the venipede line is known for its aggression. they need a good bit of space and places where they can root around for food. their venom is also powerful enough to disable a human, so i'd only get one if you're feeling very confident- and certainly don't try to evolve it too fast. a different bug or poison type would really be better for your first mon.

as far as general tips- remember that your vet and the pokemon center are your friends! they're your first and foremost contact for questions and concerns. and also- remember that you're going to make mistakes in your care, and that's okay. raising pokemon is harder than people make it sound sometimes. if someone trustworthy tells you that you need to change something you're doing, it doesn't mean that you're a bad trainer. you're just learning things as you go, and everyone inevitably screws something up. as long as you're doing your best for your pokemon and fixing things that need fixing, you and your pokemon will be okay.

fossey was absolutely the more accepting of his feelings of the two in this regard; though they were definitely pretty nervous they tended to downplay it a lot, like "welllll... people get crushes on coworkers with all the time!! plus its not like anything's gonna come of it, so its fine for me to like him.. im sure ill get over it soon" <- that. generally just didnt register that they might have a chance At All and as a result didnt really catch themself reading too much into his words/actions because "well its not like he'd like me anyways! that would be wasting my time. i have a job to do, after all".

for him, the realization was like being hit in the face with a brick. not because he thought fossey was particularly undesirable in any way that would make him go "i cant believe i like THEM", but rather because he was still operating under the expectation of not really getting to know them or really form any relationship/attachment past just. general coworker amiability. it honestly made him panic a bit, because he wasnt sure if this would affect his performance in battle ["if i get hung up on something like that, itll be easier for me to get distracted and hurt more easily. or worse, ill underperform" <- that sorta thing] and again, he tries to consider himself as being somewhat divorced from feelings, at least on a professional level. of course, we know this to not be true [calls his parents regularly, shows genuine care to his teammates, etc etc] but well. hes stupid. <3.

...you could not possibly have a worse ensemble of wingmen than the options laid out for these two. at the absolute least, fossey has the support of miss pauling, who reassures them about things when they feel down. however shes not really an active wingman? like she encourages fossey but doesnt ever actively try to vouch for fossey as a potential partner for sniper, mostly because fossey has asked her Not to [going back to the whole lack of perceived desirability they feel and all]. other than that, they havent really confided in their feelings to anyone else, mostly because they know theres literally no circumstance under which it would end without great humiliation.

sniper, on the other hand, tries to be discreet when asking for advice, but everyone kind of Knows who hes got his eyes set on. so when he tries to ask for help and is immediately met with a chorus of "ooooh so youre finally gonna ask out fossey?" hes like FUCK YOU and also how did you know [fake idgafer they saw you saying good morning!! when you dont do that for anyone else!!!!]. so i think he would get frustrated and then not ask for help again

that said i can definitely see a few of the mercs trying to take things into their own hands. scout makes stupid jokes to fossey about sniper ["yknow hes got a picture of ya in his camper, right?" "HE WANTS TO SHOOT ME?" "NO"], soldier probably tries giving him unsolicited advice that literally only worked because zhanna matches his freak so well, and medic breaks HIPAA in a strange way to try and bring them closer together. none of it ever works but theyre all quite content to watch the two of them very awkwardly dance around their feelings for one another and tease them about it [though mostly sniper. since fossey does a shockingly good job at hiding her side of things + they havent known her nearly as long]

💕- Who confessed first and how? Did it go as planned or did shenanigans ensue?

oh this ones fun. they both kinda confessed at different times, but the first one just... didnt work? going back to this question set, after fossey apologizes/confronts sniper about his avoidance, he Does confess his feelings, but does so in a more vague way that fossey absolutely Did Not Clock as romantic. unfortunately this ended with the most brutally unintentional friendzone known to man

its not as though All hope is lost, though. like i said, there were multiple "confessions", albeit fossey's was admittedly much more thought out in terms of like. the specifics.

see, they have a really bad habit of overworking [mostly because they lose track of time very easily, and their work is so repetitive its easy to get lost in the sauce. they arent a very intentional overachiever], and a lot of sleep problems. as such, it was bound to happen that they would one day fall asleep at their desk, having worked themself to exhaustion and not really noticing it until they'd woken up...

sniper notices fossey sleeping at their desk, hours after they were supposed to leave for the day [being a bit of an insomniac himself, he would sometimes just. walk around. everyone on the team is kind of a freak it makes sense to me. you know]. so he goes and wakes them up like "hey dude you were supposed to leave hours ago" and theyre like FUCK right ill be out of here in a second. however, before they can leave, sniper remembers that fossey usually Walks home. so he offers them a ride, because the idea of them walking home alone at like 2am greatly unsettles him. they agree, and since its only a 15/20 minute walk it ends up being a very short drive, spent in an admittedly comfortable silence between the two. maybe a longing glance or two is passed without the other noticing.

and just before fossey steps out of the van to go fuck off to their apartment building, without even thinking they lean over and give him a kiss on the cheek, then step out and wave goodbye like nothing happened. [its not until theyre actively closing the door to the apartment building behind them that they realize what theyve done. and by then theyre like FUCK]

sniper is obviously speechless, because just a couple months ago he got friendzoned and he was still wrestling with the fact that his feelings were only getting stronger with time. he just kind of sits there for a second before he realizes he probably looks crazy just sitting there in a van outside an apartment complex that is primarily home to like. old ladies. and on the drive back to his usual parking space for the camper hes just like Fuuuck work is gonna be so awkward tomorrow.

and the next day they do talk it out.. fossey stops by his camper and is like Heyyy so can we um 😅 talk about last night haha... and they give a verbal confession but end it with like "im not really expecting you to feel the same way but since you basically already know i figured id tell you..." and snipers just there like It is unbelievable how much i feel the same way. i imagine the conversation itself would be quite awkard/seemingly "anticlimactic" for the start of a relationship, sort of like [incoming maine moment] shimamitsu's first little stint as a couple in skip to loafer where they just very awkwardly are like "do you... wanna try going out?" after a rather embarrassingly sudden confession. but both of them are autistic and awkward so <3 love is love <3

😑- How easily do they get jealous and how do they handle it?

fossey is admittedly not very jealous at all LOL though this mostly comes from the fact that they dont place very high value in themself. so theyre like "? if he ever found someone else he'd just go for it man i dont think it'd be worthwhile to keep me around just to cheat". they also just arent really the possessive type, since they do actually trust him quite a bit in this regard and are very much of the "if you love something let it go" mindset. however in the context where i ship sniper with the other mercs theyre very chill with it. because fossey has the fujoshi spirit 👍

if they ever Would get jealous i think they would handle it well enough on their own, though. they tried exactly one [1] time to make a joke about sniper leaving for someone else and he was MORTIFIED so they were like Damn i probably shouldnt do that again that was a little mean.

sniper i think would probably be a little bit more jealous? it doesnt come up very much, but every once in a while someone gets just a liiittle too close or looks a liiittle too long and hes like ? You could back up a little bit!

he mostly keeps it to himself since fossey isn't and has never been the type to pursue or flirt with others even in a playful context, so when he Does get jealous its usually directed at the other party. i think early on he mightve gone to fossey about it first and when they got confused [because they didnt think the other person saw them that way + were absolutely NOT trying to go for them] he realized it didnt make much sense and didnt really bring it up like that again. not much reason to blame fossey for how others feel when they arent the one Inviting those feelings, yknow? at most he might be like "damn that guy would Not leave you alone" but even then it happens quite rarely, so its not something they really have to address more than like. once or twice a year. that said i Do think he might get a little more clingy without really noticing it... hugging a little more tightly or casually throwing an arm around their shoulders a little longer than usual.

💀- If the canon character is canonically dead, how did your OC handle their death? (Or did you completely omit their death cause fuck canon?)

this one is interesting, not just because of the game mechanics but also because of his canon [albeit temporary] comic death. when considering respawn compatibility + mechanics and the nature of the game, i think fossey is desensitized enough to how much violence occurs around these guys on a daily basis that the concept of sniper being hurt in this way doesnt really faze him any more than it does miss pauling or any other merc. like he knows he'll be back. its fine. though i do think in the back of his mind he sometimes worries that one day sniper might come back and not remember/not love/not care for him anymore, although this has yet to happen, and if scout's persistence with trying to court miss pauling is any proof, it likely never will.

his comic death, however, is a different story, primarily because it left him with some pretty permanent scars. fossey freaked out so fucking bad when they found out what happened [since they werent present for it] and they just like. almost couldnt really believe it? the desensitization to his death in the context of the gravel war + respawn machine and how it functions made them less cognizant of the idea that Hey he could still die for real one day. and that realization shook them pretty badly... if they were actually present for it i think they would genuinely be inconsolable for a while. but LUCKILY hes back 👍 insert i cant help myself "all clean!" image here

Breaking down my tlm aus that ive been focusing on the most lately because i need to blabber more

oni emmet: this one's a ninjago au, it mostly centers around emmet, wyldstyle, and benny but metalbeard, gcbc, and mayhem are there often as well. Basically, rex is emmet's twin in this au and he and the other oni are planning on destroying ninjago. emmet doesn't want this, so he finds a way to get to ninjago so that he can find a way to stop the invasion. he meets benny, a well-known but eccentric inventor who works under cyrus borg, and wyldstyle, the valiant and cool headed leader of a biker gang with a massive crush on up and coming model mayhem, who just so happens to be her friend and just so happens to not know about the biker gang (also theyre both painfully oblivious, the lesbian curse lives on). together they do a bunch of stupid shit (mostly to hide the fact that emmet is an oni) but theyre trying their best to not let the entire continent die, rooting for em. also in terms of the other minor characters, mayhem is an aspiring model who's been friends with wyldstyle since they met at a clothing store 3 years ago. she's like painfully in love with lucy and considers her very dependable, trustworthy, cool, and pretty. gcbc are a security guard at borg tower and benny's closest confidant (take this as romantic or platonic if you wish it isnt explicit in either direction). they were fast friends after gcbc was hired at borg tower and they usually eat lunch together on work days. finally, metalbeard is a dragon. he's a dragon. im could elaborate on this further but im leaving it at he's a dragon. also also the ninja still exist here but this au is a little canon divergent (it's mostly because I axed some of the minor character elemental masters because i wanted to give their powers to other people)

cape space: this one is a lot simpler, and it's specialspacecops centric (starts as purely coppernauts tho). it's kinda a crack au but basically benny is a super famous aerospace engineer in Cape Space, gcbc are his personal guards turned husbands. emmet moved to cape space because his firm offered him a pretty sick gig helping manufacture rocket parts in Cape Space, however he was not aware that the designer of said rockets and his husbands would take a liking to him and bother him constantly (he warms up to it...eventually).

florist emmet: my child. my beloved au. the one that i pin to my wall and light candles under. im planning on maybeee writing a fic on this so i wont give too much aside from the basic summary away but emmet and the gang live in a quiet seaside town (think like everyone knows everyone) named bricksville where emmet works as a florist. however, this all changes when the foreboding mr. business comes to town and tries to overrun the local economy with his corporate conglomerates. everyone in the town needs to work together to find a way to get mr Business out of their town before their businesses go belly up! the cast is much larger in this one and includes cowtaur emmet, unikitty, owl gcbc, the carpenter bees (jenny benny and denny), albatross metalbeard, weasel vitruvius, dog wyldstyle, and butterfly mayhem (ill give individual details about characters if asked but if i gave them all we'd be here for a while)

merge au: it's literally just the merge in ninjago but if tlm was one of the realms. i can elaborate more but much of it self explanatory (this one is also more canon compliant than oni emmet)

I like how in the opener the Doctor ends up running into Donna due to plain old Chronic Hero syndrome, rushing towards someone who looks like they needed help

I appreciate that we got a realtime example of Donna just missing a spaceship

her concern with stacking properly is a good establishing moment for viewers who maybe don't know her yet

It's interesting how Donna ended up giving away the money - not doing what he thought she would do

Making Donna's kid trans was a great move now that the UK is known as a rather trans-hostile place

sylvia is interesting - she seems like someone who feels guilty but is sort of going overboard with overcompensating for it rather than truly helping

badass protective - which is probably how Donna would be as a mom, some of the character development stuck despite the memory wipe, small-minded

Another Unit Scientific Advisor!

You can tell the Doctor is having a tough time with how he spills his problems to the Unit lady. Though you can also see 14 isn't quite like 10, not quite as emotionally constipated. 12 had this whole arc about spitting out the words though then chibnall didn't do anything with cause he couldn't write characters to save his life. I guess 13 was supposed to look like his (franky offensive, carricaturish) idea of a private person? At least this keeps the tendency of each incarnation being a contrast to their predecessor. Insofar as 13 had enough personality to be contrasted. Chibnalls characters are all emotionless planks of wood - and I'll better stop ranting now

the story's a bit over the top & cliche, though. I mean I can partially forgive it because the ep is really much more about Donna, but not a fan of the over the top cliched villain. though, this RTD is the guy who made the fart episode. he was good at concepts a lot of the time, but yeah...

The wheelchair stun darts are cliche, too, but I DO like the general twist of the unit lady realizing the guards have been mind-controlled & saving the team. She seemed competent earlier. Makes me miss Osgood a bit. One hopes wheelchair lady will keep showing up in UNIT episodes.

I love Donna taking the initiative here to run off. (characters NOT being planks of wood & making self-motivated decisions! Oh im so glad we're rid of Chibnal's trash writing)

Do like the moment. Donna still having her unimportance complex, the Doctor's response that she isn't not just because he doesn't think anyone's unimportant but because she is so important to him, "why does it have to be you" Yeah David Tennant is still good at pulling ppl's heartstrings, his resigned tone when he begins reciting the 'password'

The password being similar to that time Amy had to unlock it!

Donna's first concern upon "waking up" being that she gave away the money is soo her.

Catherine Tate really shines here how she instantly retrieves the... the fast talking thing from Journey's end??

Again praise be to Catherine cause you can tell how the hole of self-doubt that was there (though not as much pre series 4) is just FILLED with confidence.

The thing where it's less lethal now because some of the energy passed down to her kid is neat, but I don't like the idea that the personality traits of Donna's kid are attributed to the metacrisis thing. Although I suppose it could be seen as more of a nudge or inspiration

I really like the touch that the Doctor remembered the names of the alien soldiers & spoke of them to their superiors, and that he neutralized the meep non-lethally. He's an actual pacifist again with lika a worldview, not just regurgitating lines about "not liking guns" out of context

I HATE the women's intuition thing. I get that they were trying to like affirm Rose's gender as real here but I hate it. It's essentialist and I hate it. I'm gonna treat it as just a joke Donna & Rose did cause they would.

Though I DO like, & find it very appropriate that Donna & Rose themselves are the ones to think up the solution & having it sort of come from Donna's grounded, down to earthsy nature. As a counterpoint to how the Doctor kind of over-ruled Donna's will to sort of unilaterally save her against her will & taking the burden onto himself. (Not that one can blame him too much for what he did while panicking, trying to save his besties' life. )

I love the Doctor fanboying over the new "desktop theme" & praising the TARDIS for the design choices

Such a nice touch that both the Doctor & the TARDIS remember Donna's coffee preferences. It's all about the little things.

David still got it with the "it killed me" line

I do notice that his delivery, while similar, in some aspects, is still markedly different. 14 is more emotionally honest than 10, but also less hyper, he carries himself a bit 'heavier'.

Like I feel some of that subtle distinction in nuance comes down to that when the Dr. turned into 10 it was "for" Rose (so the charme & energy etc were dialed to max), but 14 is "for" Donna, in a way, though he didn't know it at the start.

AAAAnd Donna immediately returns to being a supplier of grounding common-sense advice. Cause she is right about the big goodbye thing

that's a lot of pyrotechnics for just one coffee. Donna must've spilled it into the worst possible spot. That would be the sort of luck they'd have.

Soo. it was an episode without Chibnal's terrible, flavorless writing. I liked some of the story beats though not over the top wowed but I feel like this is the first act of a longer play & the emotional penny is probably still to drop.

plus reading the original screenplay and the sequel comics!! yeah they may not be the most “canon” thing but ill read anything if it has my husband in it and take what i like for them to use for my own ship lore LOL but theres just so much to love about him!! hes so talented and creative. like ik hes known for the hedges and ice, but yeah u can give him anything and he’ll make something that looks great! ^_^ he lowkey has a sense of humor? mostly in the screenplay when he has more dialogue! and hes sometimes funny when he doesnt even mean it,, he makes me laugh sometimes in the comics and the script. he loves animal (like me!!). u rlly only see him interacting with dogs (shout out to the dog from the comics which is the only character he actively spoke to directly the most), but I think he would love my bird too <3 and theres a lot of smaller things too! like him having a habit of mimicking other people’s gestures and echoing phrases he hears. he talks to animals and seems way more confident talking to them (not in the movie but in the comics and og script). hes rlly awkward in front of the camera especially in the comics. this one part in the comics makes me laugh so much where theres like 2 people in front of him arguing, and he just stares at the camera like 😁 like he does not know what to do!! in general he is just such a weird guy sometimes and i love him for it!! thats what life is about <3 his weirdness is so charming and he doesnt even try. hes just naturally like this!!

i just guess with time i fall more in love with him <3 and i relate to him a lot more! at least, i finally know to explain how I relate to him haha and the movie makes me cry even more :( edward scissorhands is one of my favorite movies of all time, but its so hard to rewatch. i just dont like how hes treated by everyone,, the whole movie makes me wanna cry but the part that gets me the most is the ending tbh i will sob my eyes out every time edward gets beat at jim and kind of lets it happen. but the moment jim even threatens to hurt kim he intervenes in self defense. like he cares so much for others but has so little care and respect for himself ;_; every time i even watch this movie and get to a part where theyre even slightly mean to him. i wanna fall to my knees in front of him and burst out into tears and hug him and tell him he deserved better and hes worth so much more than being treated that way agghgh gripping him by the shoulders and telling him to PLEASE love himself because i love him so much. the curse of having a husband from a really sad movie </3

I think the cornflakes characters would work better as a dynamic if instead of being strict to the comic lore, i just started all over, start all over at a point in time where they've all known eachother a while. i kind have basically been using this oversimplified outline for their characters when i think of them anytime now aside for the Other comic ive been working on on my patreon, which is just a weird nebulous Thing.

derek the dog wasn't always a dog, sometimes he wishes he weren't bitten by a weredog all those years ago, but he's come to embrace his doggyness, he sees no point in being hung up about the past. Derek is functionally an optimist, he's also really annoying and not in a cute spongebob way, he's a socially inept frat-reject douche, real immature. bunjee contrasts this by taking Dereks metaphor of Bad Thing happened to you that changed you a lot and making it literal, but he's incapable of moving past it, he comes off as the smarter and more reserved one from a subsurface glance but he's just a bitter, neurotic, sad little man. I want to make it clear how both of them are gullible and hopeless. theyre both vaguely victims of The Forces of Evil but derek doesn't question the way things are, and is just happy to live the closest approximation to the status quo. bunjee ruminates and festers, bunjee is more afraid and thinks theres more to be afraid of than there really is. bunjee tries to overcorrect this by letting impulsive and destructive tendencies get the best of him when he's vulnerable. bunjee doesn't see dereks pain as real, he sees him as too stupid to feel pain, a total rube or NPC, but he's so so jealous. Derek represents everything Bunjee wants for himself, and he wants to be stupider but doesn't realize he already is as stupid. just in different ways. god damn it this basically is a spongebob and squidward thing isnt it.

dusty fits into this by showing another response to trauma (i hope its clear by trauma i don't mean anything in specific, it could be events in their lives to just living in their comically surreal evil world, don't make fun of me man) that isn't moving on OR rocking-back-and-fourth-levels of neurosis, but detachment. If their world is chaos then dusty tries to match it, where as derek is passive to it, and bunjee spirals inwardly. Dusty doesn't put on a front of happiness but he is indeed chemically impaired over half the time, the rest of the time he's really badly grappling with the side effects of letting shit fester in the background for so long, he's wiser than the other two though.

All of these characters are capable of matching each others energy, two on two, in given circumstance, they all have overlap and they have hard barriers. contrasting and complimentary existences as one unit

none of this really gets into how they feel about each other beyond how bunjee feels about derek because i haven't fleshed out how dusty contrasts/compliments the other two nearly enough in my mind, and i'm not confident in what i do have. the gay shit wouldn't be as massive or monumental i can tell you that much but it would be a turning point. wouldn't make dusty as outwardly hateful to derek and would make dusty a little meaner to bunjee. the gay shit would feel better that way anyways. even the playing field.

smith would just straight up not exist if i could do it over again. i don't know why i added him into cornflakes comic to start, he's pretty funny with derek at least but beyond existing for the sake of it i don't find him useful as a fourth main character anymore.
