Ooh! Well, I enjoy both, but I do think I lean towards either Arthur being the monster or both of them being monsters.

KISSING YOU AND @seiya-starsniper ON THE MOUTH FOR ASKING ABOUT THIS ONE BECAUSE I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT IT !!!!! And also extremely intimidated because I expect this to be Long 🫣

SO !! The title is a Japanese phrase that refers to a sunshower, because foxes (kitsune) are magical creatures in Japanese folklore, and a sunshower is such an exceptional event that it would only happen to celebrate something just as exceptional, that is, a fox's marriage.

Now, after Eleanor and Robyn's death, instead of wallowing in despair, Hob decides to flee his grief and goes on a trip that eventually leads him all the way to Japan (in a series of peripeteia inspired by historical events, I'll be putting my Japanese degree to good use to make this as historically accurate as possible <3)

The thing is, he severelly underestimated how long it would take for him to return to England and the White Horse, and by 1689, he's still stranded in Japan. However at the same time, a serial killer whose modus operandi is oddly similar to the Corinthian is striking Japanese people in the Waking, and Dream goes to investigate, in the form of a fox which is safe for him, since he's considered a magical creature, and also it avoids him too many unwarranted social interactions.

And shortly, Hob sells his service as mercenary to a strange lady, who needs him to investigate the same murders ... Of course they meet, though unbeknownst to Hob who only finds himself a curiously familiar fox companion. And Dream is furious to see Hob in such good spirit so far away from his dead wife and son, and the White Horse ...

And I'm going to stop there before I spill everything and find it not worth it to write it out anymore 😅

But !! I want to say that I intend this as a hommage to Neil Gaiman's narration in the comics in that it won't center solely on Dream, or even Hob, but the investigation (spoiler alert : it's not the Corinthian's doing actually) and the strange lady employing Hob, and Japanese mythology and folklore !!

I still have a lot on my plate with the big bang fic, and then I'll probably rest from it with a few one-shots 😅 but then, I'm really excited to started working on this, as it's really close to my heart !!

Consider: au where Sebastian is a kitsune

(yes I'm just yelling this at you but I think it'd be very interesting to make Sebastian a being that is decidedly not inherently good or evil but capable of being both. Also because I want to put him in a kimono. Also because I love kitsunes and shhhhh)

i mean valid but those kind of aus aren't my thing haha. i just like to play around with the canon that's set before me. i think the most out there with an au i've ever gotten is this soulmate au i have.

kitsune sebastian would be interesting with the context of tanaka tho. i know a lot of people headcanon that he thinks sebastian is some kind of yokai (albeit, a well meaning one. otherwise he'd probably be concerned by his proximity and interest in ciel). it's definitely something interesting to consider with how slightly different everything would be. i wonder what kitsune sebastian would be doing in england considering they're part of japanese folklore, and also what reasons he'd have to pose as o!ciel's butler, cause i feel like he'd possibly (?? i don't know enough about kitsunes) not be after his soul in this au

• Macy and Iris are vibing, there’s nothing bad that’s happened to them in the past. Then again, they started dating after rumours starting popping up about them possibly being a couple years before the present time of the OC story.

• Marcus and Liam died after they were ambushed by a dozen entities. They ended up getting reincarnated into the present time of the story so they’re fineeeee (I’m joking, they’re extremely traumatized lmao)

• In conjunction with the last bullet point; C, Lance, Aaron, and Jadeyn know about this because they either figured it out or Marcus & Liam accidentally mentioned something alluding to them being reincarnated. Macy, Iris, Zac, and Kumiho will eventually find out too in a future story.

• Kumiho and Zac were childhood friends before Kumiho had to move away. They ended up meeting again on their first day at Arcana Academy, and they’ve been together ever since

• Zac’s father died when they were young. They’re still grieving him a lot, and their father imbued his love for music into them.

• C’s parents both died after his village got destroyed by a bunch of entities. The goggles they wear originally belonged to their father before he gifted them to C, and C’s mother always encouraged them to study all the elements in the Academy curriculum

• Jadeyn was bullied in their youth, which led to them having low self-esteem, them believing they don’t deserve romantic love from anyone, and them preferring to be by themselves. After getting into a relationship with C, most of what was previously mentioned disappeared.

• Lance and Aaron are soulmates. Their souls were connected together by the creator giving them a bond that will last for the rest of their life. The bond they had was temporarily torn apart after they were both separately ambushed by entities when they were younger.

• In the aftermath of that ambush, Lance was nearly dead, leading to their father rebuilding them into an android with their soul, brain, and most of their memories still intact, and Aaron’s wings were torn off from his back. Both of them also forgot about eachother.

• They ended up getting back together after reuniting at Arcana Academy. Aaron’s wings ended up regrowing around that time as well.

EXTRA BULLETPOINTS

• Some of their nationalities relate to their species/interests and where they originated from.

• Marcus and Liam both went through a lot after reincarnating. They both ended up self-harming a couple years before enrolling into Arcana Academy. This explains the long gloves that they have in their designs.

• Lance and Aaron’s main hobbies alongside fighting include tinkering and creating gadgets and machines. Both of them are self taught in this type of stuff, and they actually worked together to create Lance’s prosthetic arm.

• To be more specific, Iris likes Lo-fi music, Zac liked Rock music, and they both equally love Indie music.

• C had a shitty sleep schedule since he’s constantly practicing magic and drawing (he’s just like me fr). Jadeyn’s trying their best to get their sleep schedule back to normal

Emily had never traveled to Japan before - a fact that made the long trip all the more exciting. According to the stories that made their way to her office at Cambridge, the Fae were all wildly different here than anything she had encountered in England, Ireland, Ljosland, and beyond; though Emily could never truly be sure of how distorted the tales had become during the trip home. Either way, instead of Courtly Fae and selkies, brownies and changelings, she would be able to study creatures of unfamiliar names such as oni, tengu, and kappa.

But the rarest, most rewarding prize, should she be so lucky, would be the kitsune - trickster Fae capable of changing forms from something human-like to that of a nine-tailed fox. They were said to possess an enormous array of magic even more varied than the Courtly Fae if Wendell’s repertoire was anything to go by. She would have to take care not to fall for their tricks, but she had evaded faerie enchantments numerous times before. And, she had Shadow.

She was walking through the forests of the Japanese countryside, marveling at and making note of shrine she passed. Her journal was awash with hurried scribbles. Shadow, on the other hand, meandered at her side, looking and moving every bit like an old black boarhound. Suddenly, he stopped, every muscle pulling taut as he bared his teeth and growled. Emily stopped too, book and pencil lowering so her eyes could scan the tree-line. Nothing showed itself immediately but then, the fae rarely did.

Her hand exchanges the pencil for a small coin with she grasps like a lifeline as she ventures slowly forward, Shadow at her heels.
