Sage (Salvia officinalis). This is the original plant called “sage” in english. Its latin name Salvia is derived from the word meaning “save”; over the centuries (and changes from latin to french and then being adapted into english) the latin word has become the same as the English word for a wise person. Sage has a wide range of infection fighting properties, and an affinity for the digestive and respiratory systems. It can also be poulticed on wounds. Like other kitchen herbs, it contains enough medicinal secondary phytochemicals to have a very strong scent and flavor, but is safe enough to be food. . . . In my clinical practice in 21st century USA, i usually use this herb for respiratory complaints. It opens the airways and expels mucus, and fights infection. I often use it along with thyme. . . . In other times and contexts i have used it externally for shrapnel injuries (with yarrow) and internally for diarrheal illness in displaced children caused by drinking bad water. . . . #sage #herbalmedicine #plantmedicine #plantbased #garden #kitchenmedicine #organic #naturalhealth https://www.instagram.com/p/BpVEfq5hmMa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=197sqscjupt11

SUPER IDEA PARA COCINAR!!! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 @urbanmoonshine Culinary Herb Bombs✨ Perfect for using up any herbs in the garden, and preserving summer for the coming months💚 Made by freezing fresh herbs in a base of cooking oil, they not only save a good deal of time in the kitchen (just drop one in a hot pan and you’re off!), but also allow us to enjoy the vibrancy of fresh herbs year round. Just think; there may be an abundance of culinary herbs available now, but when you wheel your shopping cart past that sorry looking, over-priced herb selection in the dead of winter, you’ll be congratulating yourself for making up a big batch of these while you could. You can use any herbs you like to cook with — basil, chives, dill, oregano, mint or thyme are all good options. We like to use extra virgin olive oil, but you can use whatever cooking oil you prefer or even melted butter. To make, simply chop the herbs to your preferred size, press them down into the ice cube molds, leaving a little room at the top, then cover completely with oil. Freeze until completely solid. You can keep them in the ice cube tray if you like, or pop them out and store them in a freezer bag or Tupperware container. To use, throw one into a hot pan, add to a pot of simmering stock or thaw at room temperature for making dressings. Add to a pan of rice, your morning eggs or spread on a piece of toast. So many ways to use these amazing little flavor bombs… #diy #summerherbs #herbalism #tipsandtricks #kitchenmedicine #urbanmoonshine #consumelocalqro #queretaro #chef #cocinar (at Queretaro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEo_N2Yp_kw/?igshid=1r971jp7madbo

Cinnamon has been long known for its capacity to treat and prevent a wide range of ailments. This herb has the ability to penetrate the heart, lung, and bladder meridians. Thus cinnamon sticks have the ability to remove painful obstructions in the body and can “lift” or unblock the Yang Qi . Medicinally, cinnamon mainly refers to the dried bark of Cinnamomom Cassia – native to China. It is usually peeled in autumn and placed in the shade to dry. When the inner bark is dried, it will typically curl into a roll and look like a stick, which is how it earns its name as Cinnamon Stick – also known as Rou Gui. . Traditionally, Cinnamon is decocted or steeped alongside other herbs and spices as a medicinal drink. It is also grounded into powder and taken as part of a Chinese herbal formula. It can help invigorate the stomach, warm the lower back, relieve abdominal pains, and reduce stomach bloating. . Modern pharmacological actions of cinnamon stick include its ability to dilate blood vessels, promote blood circulation, and enhance coronary and cerebral blood flow; cinnamon bark oil can increase gastrointestinal secretion, enhance digestive function, and eliminate gas in the digestive tract; while cinnamon oil also has sedative and analgesic effects. . In Western medicine, cinnamon is also used to fight off bacteria especially in the teeth. It is also a great antioxidant that can lower cholesterol. . In TCM, the main uses for cinnamon sticks include the treatment of kidney yang deficiency leading to lower back pain and knee weakness, bladder infections, shortness of breath, asthma, edema, dizziness, ringing in the ears, abdominal pain, skin infections, arthritic pain, and reduced appetite. . It’s important to point out that this herb is not suitable for long-term use. Cinnamon stick is extremely hot and TCM practitioners strongly advise against using it during pregnancy or menstruation, as well as in cases of hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency. . . . #relaxspa #wellness #acupuncture #holistichealth #holistichealing #chinesemedicine #herbalmedicine #salud #health #lifestyle #nutrition #kitchenmedicine (at Relax SPA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDCg_G7Himm/?igshid=1113in6x9z1b9

After cooking with some oranges today, I am saving the peels for orange honey. This stuff is so killer for when you are sick. Just scoop out a tablespoon. Drop it in your tea or hot water and feel your sinuses clear up. The vitamin C from the orange peel and the natural antibodies in the honey are powerful. Easy to make. Just take orange peel, let it dry a bit to release moisture which can cause molding. Then break peel into bits. Throw in a Bahl jar to preserve. Pour honey over it. Keep and use when needed. #herbalmedicine #herbalhealing #powersofhoney #kitchenmedicine #healer #shaman #sage #intuitive #medium #pardispartow (at Bushwick/Ridgewood)

According to Anthony Williams, author of Medical Medium, “Oregano, thyme, rosemary, and sage are powerful disease-fighting foods that each have a different healing focus. When you eat all of them regularly, their individual properties complement each other, enhancing their ability to defend against pathogens in the body, like Epstein-Barr virus, shingles, streptococcus, E. Coli, H. pylori, C. difficile, MRSA, and fungus… Oregano, thyme, rosemary, and sage together have antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties that can help with hundreds of health conditions and symptoms, including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), peptic ulcers, strep throat, food allergies, Lyme disease, ear infections, sinusitis, diverticulitis, vertigo, ringworm, eye infections, respiratory infections, rashes, abdominal pain, dizziness, fatigue, blisters, excess mucus, neuralgia, flatulence, itching, nausea, edema, herpes, and gum infections.” They also bring calm and peace when you are chronically overstimulated, stressed out, and feeling emotionally overreactive. #Sage, #oregano, #rosemary, and #thyme are also especially beneficial when used raw in salads, dressings, dips, water, #juices, #smoothies, and other drinks. Drink "medicinal” teas by steeping freshly picked herbs your garden in water. If you can’t get hold of fresh herbs that easily, buy some from your farmer’s market or local organic shop and dry a bunch of different #herbs out by hanging them up, or laying them out. Store them in an air-tight jar when fully dry. Don’t bother with the low grade #teabags that abound on the market, they really aren’t up to the job! #uglybynature Source: https://www.energytherapy.biz/2016/10/16/oregano-thyme-rosemary-and-sage-powerful-disease-fighting-foods-you-need-in-your-diet/ . #instagood #instahealth #instahealthy #healthychoices #kitchenmedicine #healthychoice #weightloss #healthtips #farmacy #detoxification #organic #organicfood #organicfarming #chooseorganic #buyorganic #nongmo #healthcare #healingherbs #holistichealing #naturalremedies VIA: @ugly_by_nature - #regrann

Do you want healthy, long lashes? I love this deep treatment recipe and since it was time for me to whip up a new batch, I wanted to share it with you!😄💋 . ➡️In a glass dish, add 1 tbsp of shea butter. ➡️Place glass dish in hot water and let the shea butter melt. ➡️Add 1 tbsp coconut oil and allow to melt. ➡️After shea butter and coconut oils are liquid, remove from hot water and let cool slightly (so they are warm, not hot). ➡️Add two drops rosemary EO and two drops lavender oil to the glass dish. ➡️Stir to combine. ➡️Using a small funnel, pour liquid into empty mascara tube. Assemble mascara tube with orifice reducer and wand. ➡️Place in refrigerator to cool and harden. After hardened, remove from fridge and keep with cosmetics. ➡️Use 1-2 times a week to deep treat the eyelashes and promote eyelash growth and health.💜 . *Word of caution! ONLY apply this to your lashes, not to the lash line that borders the eye. (My father in law is an eye doctor and he would tell you that nothing, even eyeliner, should ever be applied to that part of the eye 😉). Also be sure to use a BRAND NEW mascara tube, don't reuse old ones, which could be filled with bacteria. I bought these pretties on Amazon!🙌🏻 ••••• Do you have a deep treatment recipe for your lashes? #sweetpotato #sweetpotatoes vs #yam #yams #camote Jewel & Garnet Yams – These have brownish-orange skins and bright orange interiors. While labeled yams, they are actually sweet potatoes and are even more common than the standard white-fleshed sweet potato. These varieties are a low-calorie, nutrient-dense food, packed with vitamin-A (more than carrots!). Sweet potatoes also contain high amounts of calcium, fiber, iron, and vitamin-E. Sweet Potatoes – Same botanical group, different color. They are also long with tapered ends but have a light tan skin and a yellow interior, similar in color to a Yukon gold potato. They are a bit drier, starchier, and less sweet than their orange relatives. Sweet potatoes grown in the United States come from Florida, California, North Carolina, and Louisiana. Sweet potatoes are on the Clean Fifteen list. Japanese Sweet Potatoes – With a deep purple skin and a white interior, these potatoes are super sweet. Yams – Most of us have probably never even eaten a real yam. I know I haven’t. While you could hunt one down in the US, they are more common in African or Caribbean markets and diets. There are dozens of different yam varieties, some growing up to 8 feet long and weighing over 200 pounds! They have a rough, bark-like skin and rounded ends; the flesh is more dry, bland, and starchy and less sweet than sweet potatoes. #instagood #instahealth #instahealthy #healthychoices #kitchenmedicine #healthychoice #healthysnack #weightloss #healthtips #farmacy #detoxification #organic #organicfood #organicfarming #chooseorganic #buyorganic
