Simple Things Baby Witches Might Miss
I was a baby witch once, and there were tons of small, little things that went over my head until later in my practice. I'm hoping that some of these will ring a bell for those who may need to hear them.
When you're cleansing a room, especially if it's a smoke cleanse, you need to open a window. This gives an 'escape route' for what you're cleansing away and also gives the smoke somewhere to go other than sticking to your walls.
Speaking of smoke cleansing, do not smoke cleanse in a room with pets in it. It can be very, very dangerous to them.
When you're doing research, you should be cross-checking across four to six different sources. If something matches across multiple sources, it's more likely to be solid.
You can incorporate your craft into pretty much anything. Showering? You're washing off the bad energy. Cleaning? You're preparing your space. Gardening? You're encouraging growth and prosperity. And delicious tomatoes!
If you're using a smoke cleanse, you can add the burnt portion to salt to make a beginner's black salt.
Spell jars don't have to go on your altar.
Altars are not completely necessary, especially if you're in the broom closet. Work with what you have.
Every herb has benefits and correspondences. You can utilize these without spell jars, burn spells, etc. Kitchen magic is one of my go-tos - cooking with spices and herbs infuses your food with their benefits.
Ask 'dumb' questions. Reach out to people. If they laugh at you for your questions, you know they are not a reliable source of information. (P.S. - my ask box is always open!)
White wax can replace any other color of wax. Get birthday cake candles for easy, fast burning.
Clear quartz can replace other crystals.
Here's a simple color chart.
Here's a simple moon phase chart.
Here's a simple guide to flowers and their correspondences
Here's a simple guide to cascarilla
As always, do your own research. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt until you do research - yes, even from me, because I make mistakes, too. Blessed be, and good luck, baby witches!

Exciting update on the "Making the House Awesome" front:
Tumblr media
(The cat has already tried to use the mock-stonework as a scratching post, but not the door, which actually looks like wood. Cat logic.)
Anyways, this is looking great, and we're very excited.

The gods will look out for you
In the same way that Christians or Muslims say that their god looks out for them.
I just changed out Inanna's offering before I left for work this afternoon. And on my way to work from my coffee stop I got less than a foot away from getting into a head on collision. I could feel her with me, and I believe she kept me safe.
Of course that doesn't mean go and put yourself in danger. Be smart. Be responsible. Blessed be.

So you want to make permanent runes?
Look no further; I gotchu. Runes are great tools. They can protect, defend, enhance, and so much more. They're genuinely one of my favorite things to use in my craft because they're easy, can be as simple or complicated as you want them to be, and are effective. However, as much as I like drawing or painting them onto things, I sometimes want something a little more... permanent. Something I could hang in front of my window or paste/glue onto the front of a book. That's why I make and use salt dough. It's simple, it's fun, it's family-friendly, and it dries really well. You can even color it with food coloring or add in herbs. You can do anything with it! So, without further blabbing, here's my recipe for salt dough:
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup table salt
3/4 cup to 1 cup water
Parchment paper
Baking sheet
An oven
Optional: rolling pin
Optional: thread/ribbon
Optional: dried herbs
Optional: food coloring
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Preheat your oven to 225F (107-ishC).
Optional: Mix your dried herbs into your salt or flour.
Stir your flour and salt together.
Optional: To color your salt dough, stir your food coloring into water before you mix it with the dry stuff. Ensure it's very saturated because it will lighten considerably with the 3 cups of dry ingredients.
Add in 3/4 cup of water and mix. If the dough is too dry, slowly add in up to 1/4 cup more of water until it's kneadable.
Turn onto your parchment paper and knead until it's smooth, pliable, and not sticking to your fingers.
Optional: If you want to cut out shapes instead of molding them, flour your rolling pin and roll out the dough to a thickness of roughly 1/4 inch, then carve out your runes with a skewer or knife.
Roll out pieces of dough into 1/4-inch wide cylinders and form them into your rune/s.
Place them on a parchment paper-covered baking sheet and bake them for 1-4 hours or until completely dry. If you make thicker runes, they might take even longer.
Flip them over carefully every hour. If they're still pliable, try again every half hour.
Once they're dry, remove the pan from the oven and let them cool down until completely cool.
Once they're cool, they're done! You can now hang them up with string or ribbon, glue them onto things, paint (acrylic paint only, don't add water), etc. Just don't get them too wet!
As you can see, despite the long instructions, it's quite simple! It's also edible if you bake the flour first, so if a curious toddler tries to stick some into their mouth, it won't hurt them - but they might spit it out and make a mess.
Happy making, and blessed be!

Body Butter Recipe
This is the base for a basic body butter recipe, which is fairly quick, easy and cheap and good for those in the broom closet or (like me) are bouncing pay check to paycheck with low energy and money.
I love using recipe such as this one and my salt scrub recipe in self love rituals. Nothing screams decadence to me like spending extra time focusing on myself and my body. These types of spells are also great for glamours.
Basic Recipe:
3 cups shea butter of cocoa butter
1 cup carrier oil
a few drops of essential oil until desired scent is achieved
(optional) 1-2 tea spoons Vitamin E oil
(optional) 2 tablespoons cornstarch to thicken
Mix together the butter and oil, slowly ading your essential oils (or infused oils) until well mixed and you've achieved the desired scent - if your need to, you can heat up this mixture on a low heat to aid in mixing
If you desire a thick consistency, sift in your tablespoons of cornstarch into your cooled oil and butter mixture
Whip the mixture using an electric or hand whisk until desired consistency is reached and store in an airtight, wide rimmed container.
Self Seduction
3 cups shea butter
1 cup coconut butter
1 cup rosehip oil
a few drops of rose, lavender, ylang-ylang and sandalwood (or any other aphrodisiac oil or attraction/lust oils)
2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
1 teaspoon pink or red mica powder or food coloring (add more if needed, test on skin to ensure the colour doesn't transfer - optional)
Self Confidence Lotion
3 cups shea butter
1 cup carrier oil
1/4 cup aloe vera
2 teaspoons vitamin E oil (optional)
1-2 teaspoons water
a few drops of lemon balm, mint, jasmine, orange blossom (or other oils for confidence and prosperity)
As always, remember to adapt and change these recipe to fit your own practice and what you have on hand. Never feel like you have to follow exact recipes, diy your own spells and oils to what works best for you <3

Dear broom closet witches,
One day, you won't be in there anymore.
One day you will have your own money, your own home.
One day you will have all the magic books you desire proudly set out on a shelf.
One day you will display your magical symbols boldly.
One day you will have supportive family and friends -or they'll at least know to keep it zipped.
Let the promise of that day sustain you for now. Don't waste your energy on shame, jealousy, or feelings of inferiority -there is NOTHING wrong with protecting yourself- and put it towards the future you're going to build for yourself.
I know you can do it. I know you will have it. Trust me.
Love, Auntie ❤️

new protection blend for low spoon witches (or anyone really)
Okay so you know how we can use eggshells for protection? And that you normally store them some variation of broken up?
Well I tried to put some of mine from breakfast in the coffee grinder....only to realize there was some coffee bean grounds in it. Now we also know that coffee can be used for grounding, and to make whatever you put it in (potions) more potent.
So naturally my chronically low spoon ass had a lightbulb moment and realized that this could work very well together.
So my point is save your spoons. As long as everything is shelf stable who the hell cares. Bonus points if it makes something stronger. Happy witching!

Low budget/Discreet cleansing
Use bubbles to cleanse your space. As they pop, they clean and cleanse as they float, and release positive energy into the air when they burst. Blow the bubbles in a clockwise circle to invite the energy into your space, or blow the bubbles in each corner of the room.
Different scents of soap can also be used for different intentions! (Flowers=growth, apples=hardiness/fertility, etc)
Enjoy!!!!
