Oh also I didn't touch on this in the last post but it's so devastating that Trudy's looking for books about how to be human. Like, being who another person wants you to be for so long, fulfilling this role in other people's lives and having that become your entire personality, and then, even though you want that part of your life to be over, it's still stressful when it does happen. It's still that moment where you realise- if I'm not the person my abuser wanted me to be, who am I? And "yourself" or "a woman" isn't really good enough at first, if you've spent so long in that situation that you might not be sure of who "you" are.
Self-discovery is a big thing in a lot of media, but what I will say about Trudy in particular is that most self-discovery media focuses on teenagers figuring out who they are. Trudy's self-discovery is that of someone leaving an abusive relationship and figuring out who she is without the context of her abuser. Not quite as common in media, and I find it to be really meaningful, as someone who has been through/witnessed abusive relationships at various points in my life. Because that process of rebuilding your identity is painfully real, difficult, and not something often touched on in media of any kind.
