KBASW Chapter: 1 The Nightmares of Reality 

“Well I guess that’s the last of it!" jeered Gus.

*Bang

He plopped the last of the piece of lumber. Putting it with the rest of the menagerie of materials they gathered. Everyone in Cappy Town was scrambling around, pulling from the charred remains of their homes… Trying to salvage whatever they could find.

After the Destroya attack, the whole town was left incinerated. What was left of their little village was a burnt, empty hollow husk of what it once was. Buildings and houses were charred, roads were uprooted, and the giant oak tree that once stood proudly in the middle of the square was gone. 

It's been a week since then...

But despite that, all the townsfolk were in good spirits, still pumped up on their success. Those who were there regaled their peers with the details of their journey. Extremely proud of their success… How they “went to the heart of NME’S lair and destroyed the place, they were heroes!” 

~Even though technically a good portion of them didn’t do anything but hey, it was still “a win” ...

But more importantly, hearing this gave the other cappies a can-do attitude. It was that type of infectious attitude that made them believe “we can do anything”, giving them the willingness to work.  Even the kids were helping out, especially Kirby. 

The pink puffball was in the middle of helping Kawasaki yank out his old pan. It was buried under the roof; it jammed in a small pocket of debris. Luckily he was small enough to wiggle his way in through. Kawasaki anxiously waited, praying it wasn’t still usable. 

*Pop*

Kirby emerged triumphantly out of the rubble. He waddled over with his pan; it was still in one piece.

 “Thanks, Kirby,” he said as he happily hugged his beloved frying pan. “I’ll make sure you're the first person to eat at my restaurant once it reopens!”

"Poyo, poyo!" he cheered. Excited at the prospect of eating there again.

"Hey, can someone help me out?", Gengu asked. "My old sign is stuck!"

Before leaving, the chef thanked Kirby once again then,... Zoom, he was off on to help the next person. The whole incident really brought the town together. It was a chaotic but lively scene.

And at the center of all this chaos was Fumu. She was busy directing townsfolk around where to put everything. Looking and checking the quality of their findings. 

“Alright, everyone, let's get organized!” Fumu called out. Quickly she whipped out a pen and clipboard and started to write. She carefully counted: jointing down all the things they had managed to save amongst the wreckage. 

~GAAHH

Soon her brother made his way toward the town square with two fists full of trash bags. Brugglingly dragging them across...Unlike the rest of the town, he was in a foul mood. Before he even had the chance to set them down.

“Bun, trash doesn’t go there-” 

“Aw, come on!” Bun whined, "Everything looks like trash right now!” Gesturing arms to the state of the town. Then he angrily yanked his two trash bags together and propped himself up beside them. Making a scene in the middle of town.

Everyone paused for a moment to watch the spectacle. "We've been working all day." he continued. "Can't we take it easy... my whole body's starting to feel sore!?"

Hearing this, everyone suddenly started to recall their aches and bruises too. They had indeed been working all day. And soon, work on the town halted all at once.

"Now that you mentioned it, my back starting to feel sore," Professor Curio called out. He started stretching and then.

*CRACK

"Ahh, my back" Curio sunk down to the ground. "I'm too sore to go on."

"Oh, me too...," Mabel said as she looked down at them. "At this rate, my calluses will have calluses." She dropped to the ground and leaned up against the remains of the old oak tree. "Perhaps we should all take a break."

"Mabel's got the right idea: we've earned it." Samo agreed. He made his way to sit beside her, with Mabel happily making room for him. The lively bartender was holding a big wooden crate under his arm.

He sat down and opened up the top. "I have some drinks I managed to find if anyone interested." It was filled with a colorful array of cold sodas and drinks. They shined beautifully under the boiling sun, like a trove of treasure. Making them look irresistible to any weary Cappy.

"I have some instants from the grocery store... might as well eat'em!" Tuggle soon joined in. He came carrying two boxes of food. They were filled with convenience store lunches and instant meals.

Soon all the townfolk dropped their things and took up Samo and Tuggle's offer. Lining up to get their free food and drink. Some of the other cappies started to take out snacks and share them with each other. They all began to walk away from the construction site and into the open field to enjoy their lunch.

It soon became a lively town picnic, much to Fumu's dismay.

"Wait a minute... we were making such good progress..." the young girl explained as she pointed at her clipboard. "We're almost done! We can start rebuilding soon-"

Mayor Len walked up beside her. "Fumu, I really appreciate your work ethic, but..." He gestured to the townsfolk. Everyone was comfortably relaxing and talking amongst themselves. Laying on the grass, taking in the sun... They were all dead set on taking a break. "I'd hate to be the one to put a damper on this!"

"He's right, dear!" his wife, Hana, chimed in.

She was all smiles carrying two bags of food and drink for her family. "Maybe, it's a sign we should call it a day: after all, it'd be a shame to waste such lovely weather." She leaned on her husband's shoulder. "Besides, we have all the time in the world."

"You know what, my darling... you make an excellent point!" he happily agreed with her. Taking his wife by the arm, he turned to the Fumu. "My child, lighten up; there's no more of this monster nonsense: problems solved, everything is fine now."

"Yeah, right... everything's fine." Fumu watched as the mayor was led away by his wife. She stared at them, laughing and chatting away: as if nothing was wrong. She soon became lost in thought, his words ringing in her ear.

~Everything's fine he says but why don't I feel fine-

“ Yeah, lighten up, sis!" Bun joined her once again. He came over with two sandwiches and soda pops. He offered her one of the drinks. "Don't be a killjoy for once here, have some-?”

*Smack

Swiftly she slapped the can out of his hand. "Oh, you just had to complain, didn't you?!" she scolded her brother. "Now they've stopped working!" She recoiled instantly after realizing what she had done.

Her brother wasn't having any of it, he snapped back. "Hey, what's your problem-."

"I DON'T KNOW!"

That caught him off guard... a silence settled between them. Her body seemed lifeless after that, but he could see her shaking. It was as if she was trying to shrink herself smaller and a sight: he had never seen before...

His strong-headed, hot-tempered, fearless older sister; was-...actually, he didn't know what she was at that moment.

“Hey sis... are you ok-“

“You guys gotta get back to the castle!” two small squeaky voices cried out.

Lololo and Lalala had suddenly appeared: the twins zooming towards the siblings with great speed. Both looked panicked and out of breath.

"Woah, Lololo Lalala; what's the rush?"

"JUST HURRY; WE'LL EXPLAIN ON THE WAY!" Lalala was in a panic. Immediately pushing them to run. Causing both brother and sister to forget something very important... and they weren't the only ones.

"Hey, where's Kirby?" Buttercup (Cheif Bookem's wife) asked.

Everyone was about to finish their meals when they realized the little pink puffball was nowhere to be seen. Which was an oddity of init of itself; Kirby was always where food was. The first one to nap and take a break... But the little orb was nowhere to be seen.

*Thunk *Thunk *Thunk

There was a loud hammering in the distance.

" I know that sound, Gengu said, "that's my hammer..."

Everyone followed the sound of the banging... It was only a hammer, but for some reason, there was something ominous about it. As if it was a prelude to something terrible.

The sight that awaited them was something they didn't expect. All the garbage and debris they left to clean was gone. Charred remnants of the town that still needed to be swept vanished. It was spotless...

The town was ready for reconstruction!?

What had happened was while everyone was away, Kirby continued to work. Cleaning up everyone's mess. Inhaling all the garbage and gathering up all the lumber by himself.

And at the center, Kirby was banging on the wooden log: a pitiful attempt to rebuild a house. Mayor Len was the first one to approach Kirby. "You didn't hear me call for a break: you can stop now-"

*Thunk *Thunk*Thunk

Despite his words, Kirby pressed on; as if he were in a trance. More people arrived at the scene, even more concerned now. Calling out to him: telling him "he could stop now."

*Thunk *Thunk*Thunk

But the little pink puffball would not budge: as if he were on autopilot. Hammering away, creating an unsettling requiem with it... Tuning them out.

*Thunk *Thunk *PING-

It was: Kawasaki; he halted Kirby's hammer with his frying pan own. The vibration of the metal finally made him stop; he turned to him and asked. "Kirby, what's wrong... why are ya still hammering away?"

The child slowly tilted his head to Kawasaki, meeting his eyes.

He finally got a glimpse of Kirby's face; he saw it. A dullness had come over Kirby's eyes. Dimming the brilliant blue of his eyes, the sparkle they once adorned it. The life of them was gone. A sight that made Kawaski quiver.

The small child looked away, lowering his head. And in a soft coo, he answered... "Po-yo...my fault-"

~Huh!? They were flabbergasted at his answer. And then, in response, Kirby gestured his little arms to the wreckage of the town... Tracing it back to what he was doing.

"What ?!" The Chief spoke out, "Who told you that-"

~Uh oh, they were the ones.

They were ready and willing to kick him out before Meta Knight came to the rescue with the Halberg. And here they were, treating him normally... pretending that little incident never happened.

But he remembered... Kirby remembered.

Everyone in the square gave each other that look -"OH MY GOD, how could we have forgotten that..."

"Kirby, you don't have to do that" Gengu swiftly swiped the hammer away from him out of shame. "Besides, we didn't mean it." He patted the little puffball's head, awkwardly reassuring him.

"Oh yes, you did!?" a snarly voice said. " Ya'll were practically ready to get the pitchforks and run'em out of town!" The sound of the voice came from the sky.

It was Tokkori; he had just arrived at the scene. He landed at the top of an old lamp pole (the remains of it). He continued on. "And you would have if Metal Head didn't come to the rescue with that big old ship of his."

"Kirby, don't listen to him: we didn't mean that honest... none of us meant it!" Samo was quick to shame Tokkori's. "Tokkori, apologize to Kirby!"

"Apologize, HA!" Tokkori answered back with even more fire in his! "What about all the times ya treated him like he had half a brain cell... not like guys were wrong but... I have never seen you guys apologize for that."

"Half the time you guys get tricked or side with Dedede!" He shrugged his shoulders. "You guys flop sides faster than a fish... " Tokkori began to chuckle. "You never apologized for that either...But then again it's not surprising, given how little he matters to ya..."

"Hey yeah, no good bird!", Tuggled called out. "STUFF IT!" He hucked a water bottle in an attempt to shut him up. Soon the others joined to silence him and get him away before he said anything else.

Tokkori was mad, but he was determined to prove his point. He went to the center of the square and flew even higher; so they could all see him. At this point, he was beet red, with anger ready to unleash his rage...

“HYPOCRITES! YOU’RE ALL HYPOCRITES!” he shouted at the top of his lungs. "AS SOON A PROBLEM COMES ALONG, YA BLAME HIM! AND WHEN HE FIXES IT, YA FORGIVE AND FORGET! IF HE DIDN'T FIX THIS MESS, SURELY YOU WOULD'VE KICKED HIM OUT... YOU'RE ALL TOO JUST COWARDLY, TO TELL THE TRUTH!"

In a sorry attempt to disprove Tokkori's claim, the townspeople pushed Mayor Len to the center.

"You know what we were... we were, we were-." the mayor fumbled with his words. He was panicked; he looked towards the crowd hoping that someone could retort back.

"Tell..."

"Huh!?"

They all turned around in unison. Not prepared for what they were about to see. What stood before them was no longer the fearless hero they had known, but a sad hurt little boy...

The little child started to tremble with tears in his eye. He looked at the townspeople. In a small wavering voice, he uttered again, "Tell..." Taking a deep breath, he spoke again in a tone he had never used before, which shook the cappies, "TELL KABI!"

He wanted the truth: were they really going to throw him out? After everything they've been through. Would they do it again? He had to know... But none of them had an answer for him.

"What's wrong; cat got ya tongues," soon Tokkori wore a smug grin on his face. " Face the truth... A monster exterminator; that's all Junior is to you!"

"That's not true at all! " Mabel said in response. "We all love-"

"Kirby do this..., Kirby destroy this, Kirby suck up that, Kirby kill that, Kirby save us from that!" he mocked. "As long as he gets the job done, you don't give a hoot!"

He flew around the town square as if he was doing a victory lap. He enjoyed their seeing sad, shameful faces; as they all stood there in silence. But that wasn't good enough for him.

"Once he messes up again, you'll find another reason to kick him out: you'll see." He landed right on top of the mayor's hat; to take one final jab at all of them. " Or maybe not, since there's no more monster to fight... who needs him-"

*sniffle*sniffle

In all his narcissism, he didn't even think about Kirby.

"What I was just saying was the truth-" Then he saw it... The last hint of sparkle that once shone in Kirby's eyes vanished. And replaced with a haunted hallow shadow. And all that was left was an empty VOID...

For once in his life, Tokori he knew... he went too far.

"Kir- Kirby I..." Before he could even justify his actions, Kirby fleed the scene, disheartened. Pushing and shoving everyone out of the way, with tears in his eyes. Unable to face any of them.

Soon a mob formed around Tokkori.

“Tokkori, look what you’ve done now?” Mayor Len turned his gaze to him. Soon everyone turned their attention to the arrogant bird. All eyes were on him. As their stares became more intense… he became more anxious.

Gus grabbed him from the top of the mayor's head, "C'mere ya rotten canary ..." Squeezing the bird into his fist. "You've said enough!"

"HOLD IT, HOLD I-". He turned pale as a ghost. "I can fix this just, let me get him-AH!?"

"EVERYONE JUST STOP IT, WE'RE ALL TO BLAME!"

It was Kawasaki... Sheepishly, he made his way to the center of the mob. "Are we really going to get mad at Tokkori for spitting facts..." His head was hung low, and his chef's hat crumbled in his hands. "The only reason none of us could say anything earlier is because it was the truth... we're just as bad."

He turned to the chief and asked, "Chief Bookem if a kid were to steal something from the store, would you arrest him..."

"Wait, what?" the chief was caught off guard by the question. "Of course not!"

"Why is that?"

"Well because he's a kid, ugh-"

Finally, everyone was able to grasp the reality of the situation. The truth is no one had an excuse. Kirby was their hero, their protector, but... had all forgotten that he was a kid. They failed him.

The chief knew exactly what Kawaski was driving at... they all knew, "Dammint this whole time we've been trying an innocent kid as an adult this whole time..."

"I realized that when I saw his little face, saying it was his fault." Tears started to well up in his eyes. "Only a little kid does that..." Kawasaki started to clench his hat even tighter. "If I see Kirby again: I promise I'll do whatever I can do to make it up to him... and give him all the food he can eat."

"We all knew he was a kid, but.... we were all just- I don't know, what we were thinking!" the mayor added. "We were so hard on Kirby this whole time and-" He clenched his fists. "AND FOR WHAT!?."

Ms. Hana started to tear up as she imagined one of her own kids in that position. And then she started to cry "If Kirby never forgives us, I don't blame him..."

By then Gus had already loosed his grip, enough for Tokkori to fly away, but he didn't. Instead, he just stayed there, still haunted by the image of Kirby. He thought of all the times he recklessly ran his mouth to Kirby.

Kirby had never said anything in his defense... he was so used to seeing him unaffected by his words. Believing he could get away with saying anything to him. But this time...

"I broke Kirby..."

Meanwhile, Kirby was running as fast as his little feet could carry him. Off to Castle Dedede to find the only person who could give him a semblance of comfort at this moment...

Fumu.

As he got closer to the castle, the heaviness in his chest increased; it overwhelmed his fragile little body. Desperate to take in the air: he began to hyperventilate. As he remembered the events that lead to his showdown with Nightmare. Reevaluating his relationship with everyone.

Remembering all the times his intelligence was questioned, remembering how quick they were to fall for Dedede's scheme and turn against him, and remembering all the times they made him feel like an outsider even though he was their "hero."

Boundless questions began to fill his head. "When I mess up, will they hate me again...", "If can't fight monsters anymore, will they make me leave...", "What am I going to do if I can't fight anymore...", "What can I do to make them love me again..."

"What am I worth: if I can't do anything!"

His heart hurt so much it was just too painful to bare. His worthlessness seemed all too true when they were ready and willing to kick him out... but one person could prove this wrong.

Fumu.

He needed Fumu; Fumu always made him feel better. She'd love him no matter what... Tokkori was wrong, right? He just needed to hear her say that she loved him, and that would prove it.

He was in such a daze that he didn't realize how fast he ran to the castle... his head was spinning. His vision was blurred, making him out of sync with his steps. It gave him a chance to catch his breath, but the voices in his head were relentless.

"So it was always Meta Knight, he just dumped this job on me!"

Kirby knew that voice... it was Fumu. He bolted toward's the sound of her voice. Just hearing it snapped him back to his sense. It was as if his hope was restored.

He saw her; she was with Bun, Lololo ,& Lalala. As he ran ever closer, his heart became fuller. Even some of the light he had in his eyes returned...

Just one more turn around the corner and then she'll-

"I thought I was the only one who could call on the Warp Star... but he could've- it didn't have to be me", she shouted. " I HAD TO PUT UP THIS ALL NONSENSE... BECAUSE HE MADE IT SEEM LIKE I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD LOOK AFTER KIRBY !"

Hearing that, Kirby stopped dead in his tracks. He started to cower back into the corner, hiding himself. He watched in horror as he saw her cry in frustration.

"I ALWAYS HAD TO BE THE RESPONSIBLE ONE HERE..., I ALWAYS HAD TO BE THE SMART ONE, I ALWAYS HAD TO PLAY THE GROWN-UP, AND FOR WHAT?... EVEN META KNIGHT DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT, SO WHY SHOULD I?!

"I NEVER WANTED TO BE THE ONE TO LOOK AFTER KIRBY!"

At that moment, something inside him broke.

He thought she loved him and that he was special to her.

But the reality of the situation was... she didn't love him the way he thought she did.

This was a moment she'd come to regret. But a moment that would push Kirby even closer to his destiny... She was no longer the guardian of the warp star and never would be again.

I'm not good at drawing orbs, so I drew them in a gijinka form instead, I may have made some mistakes while drawing this, but I did my best, so I hope that you like it, kbasw!

Thought of something interesting for Yamikage from the anime, might use this in my AU- In many fics or AUs I've read, what little the anime showed us with Meta Knight and Yamikage's dynamic has always been built off by making them vicious/mortal enemies, where Yamikage mercilessly betrayed the Star Warriors/GSA and turned on them out of his own hatred and cowardice. I love it, this is an awesome take and it's always executed well!/gen

But consider something a little different- What if Yamikage initially joined the war because he had someone he cared about? Much like the other Star Warriors, imagine he had a family or SO that he wanted to protect and so he enlisted in the GSA early on? But then when he realized the GSA had all but lost the war, he decided to fight for Nightmare's army instead in an attempt to keep his family safe if he pledged his loyalty; not realizing he would lose autonomy much like Jecra/Knuckle Joe's father (explaining the similar red eyes). Pulling a God of War, if Yamikage was forced to terminate his own family/couldn't protect them from the other monsters, that could explain his now cold but sentient attitude. Like he's given up. In turn, if pushed enough in battle… would Yamikage come back to his senses like Jecra did right before passing? If he could just remember the ones he loved? Would he willingly resist Nightmare's influence if given the option? Would Meta Knight help him come back too, since much of the theming in Kirby revolves around redemption? These are fun to think about especially since bro literally dipped into the woods only to never return for another episode, rather than making his way back to NME. He could've easily went back the way he came if he wanted to… as to why he didn't is open for interpretation. Food for thought. :)

A small comic I’d been working on. I got thinking about my gijinkas and my Kirby aging. I’d like to think (using some Kirby Right Back At Ya here) that given Kirby wasn’t meant to wake for 200 years, Meta and him age differently from everyone else. With my head canon that Meta is an adoptive father to Kirby, Kirby would eventually see him as his father. He’d learn a lot more because of him, becoming a skilled Star warrior himself. I haven’t thought much on it but at this point, Kirby is older and alone. Dedede and Bandee would have passed from age. Meta either age or maybe in battle. Kirby grows a strong connection to his adoptive father and dawns Meta’s cape and mask after making (or earning) his own star warrior armor and after Meta’s gone. I’d probably build on this more if I really want to but I’ve had this idea stirring for a while and had been wanting to draw it :)

The kirby fanfiction rec list for people on the r/kirby discord server because i mentioned i wanted to make one and people said i should

Alright kirbros, let’s get into it.

These are in no particular order; you should give all of these fics a read IMO.

First up, let’s get the easy ones out of the way,

Kirby on the flipside by ProminenceFlare is the most popular Kirby fanfiction on ao3. Ok technichally that spot is taken by some dumb MHA fanfic that doesn't even have a single Kirby character in it but thats not the point; KotFs is THE Kirby fanfic. Theres plenty of game/anime crossovers out there but this one takes the cake. Its 300 thousand words long for christs sake, and it’s a GREAT 300 thousand words. If you haven't read KotFs, you haven't read much Kirby fanfiction i imagine. It does not disappoint. Theres also a sequel fic in the works although currently it’s on a break, but it is also just as good as the original.

Second of all is actually a series, Heart and soul by post_it_notes7. This is another game/anime crossover but in an interesting twist. The premise is that Meta Knight, long before the events of Krbay, sought to fight galacta knight in order to become stronger and hopefully defeat nightmare. He does this, and galacta is resealed. Now in the present, nightmare has been defeated by Kirby, and all is good and well, right? NOPE, galacta knight has escaped his seal and is out to reclaim his title as the strongest warrior in the galaxy. Its technichally NOT a metagala fic, it instead focuses more on a friendship between the two. Im not really a shipping person so i actually really enjoy this, their personalities clash well and they get plenty of banter. The full series combined as of now just barely beats Kirby on the flipside (not counting KotFs's sequel, Kirby's dream trials) at 310 thousand words.

Okay, chances are if youre into Kirby fanfiction you’ve already read those two, however a series you may not have seen is PinkestMenace's Planet of Possibilities, Special Treats and Rest (haha get it it spells popstar).

Now I would suggest reading most of these, but if you don’t want to read all of them theres a few key ones that are my favourites.

Control halt delete goes into meta knight’s role in Kirby planet robobot, it’s a fun, somewhat angsty fic recounting the uh, ‘modifications’ star dream and Susie put him through. Its good.

Let the games begin! Is another good one, its quite short, but a fun read.

Do Starry Knights Dream of Eternal Sleep? is a much more angsty fic, focusing on that old “meta knight is a creation of nightmare” headcanon from the anime fandom. It is a very good fic but I will warn you its got some more harsh content in it including some self-harm/loathing-adjacent moments, and as with all fanfiction I recommend reading the tags before reading. If you are comfortable with that though, it’s a great read!

Rocks Fall, Everyone Flies is by far my favourite fic in this series, its got some great character interactions and storyline. The story is reminiscent of the Kirby novels, if the Kirby novels were not childrens books and were instead horror novels. I jest, but this story does have some good spooky content and moments. Its gives good attention to all four of the dream land gang and is another great read.

Alright that’s all for the POPSTAR series, there are other fics in that series but those are the ones Im interested in, I would suggest checking out the rest of their fics however if you are interested!

Where Were the meta-knights? By purblegaymer Is one of my absolute favourites, up there with Heart and Soul. It’s a ‘missing scene’ fic, going into where the meta knights were in those episodes where they were missing, as well as giving us a look at meta knights dumb internal thoughts throughout certain episodes. It’s a long but very good read, going into meta knight’s thoughts and personality in the anime. It’s a very good read, would absolutely recommend to any anime fans.

That’s been a lot of meta knight adjacent fics, eh? Don’t worry, I’ve got other character-centric fics. For example…

Stuck With The Lor by Azzie_Tangerine Focuses on magolor after he escapes from another dimension and tries to live in the dream kingdom. However the Lor, missing its captain, decides to show up and lock magolor in his ship so it can give the poor cat some therapy. Okay that’s not ENTIRELY how it goes but it is the basic premise. The fic goes more into magolor’s guilt and experience with the master crown, creates some fun lore for the uh, Lor, and is a good exploration into how the two’s relationship. Would definitely recommend this one for any magolor fans, 100%.

How King Dedede founded Christmas by NWTGMR is both hilarious and heartwarming. I think this fic might have one of the best portrayals of dededes personality in fan content I’ve seen, with the perfect mix between big soft man and petty jerk. I would definitely recommend giving this one a read, even if it’s not Christmas you will enjoy it.

Half Blind Date by Azzie_Tangerine (again, they’ve got some good fics) is the sole reason why I ship taransusie, which is funny because as I said earlier im not very big on shipping, but this one is too good to refuse. Taransusie is kind of a rarepair in the scope of Kirby ships (definitely not the rarest, but its not too common either), but this fic is very fun nonetheless! Please don’t take a drinking game at how many times ive said the word ‘fun’ in this list so far. Anyway, very good read, would recommend if youre a fan of either taranza or Susie!

Oh, actually, while we’re here, why not recommend Books Are Stupid, Anyways!, also by Azzie_tangerine. It’s a Kirby and prince fluff fic. Very cute, nuff’ said.

Youth by katrinasis is a pre-canon story recounting how king dedede and meta knight met, its cute and pretty fun. Good read even if youre not really into metadede.

He May Even Dream Again by voidknight is a fic that focuses on… Gooey of all characters! Yeah, gooey isn’t really the star of many fics, but this one gives him the spotlight! Mostly focuses on gooey’s relationship to dark matter, its in second person but somehow manages to make it work. Its fun, its cool, perhaps its even ‘neat’. Give it a read, if you want.

The List of Things Dark Meta Knight is Forbidden To Do by WarioCart Is… a fic (I say this positively). Based on that one Scp story I think, TLoTDMKiFTD is both a mouthful to say and a great fic. Its got some good humour, and just in general really funny. If youre too bummed out by angsty fic id recommend this one.

And… That’s about it, really. There are plenty of good Kirby fanfiction out there, but that’s all I really can think of (and have time for) today.

Wait actually, before I go, I should recommend The Olde Switcheroo by TripleMK, its another game/anime crossover but it focuses on dedede, its currently in the works but has updated recently. It’s a good one!

-This AU primarily takes place within the Kirby gameverse (with a few superficial elements borrowed from external media), the timeline starting many, many decades before the events of Kirby's Dream Land, eventually catching up to and following the main games’ canon (with nods to side games and some unique events added here and there for character flavor). I am trying to stay canon-compliant, but I’m also making things up as I go and changing them as needed, so no promises I won’t just go completely off the rails the more I workshop things, haha.

-I'm leaving ages nebulous in this AU (both because the series itself doesn't really give characters canonical ages and to keep the timeline a bit looser narratively), but - for clarity's sake - we'll say Dedede and Meta are both the equivalent of 7-to-11 years old here, though they first met a little earlier...

-Meta Knight is just called Meta for now - he won’t earn his title until after he starts his overstars military training with the Galaxy Soldier Army (GSA) in his late teens.

-That hammer belongs to Dedede’s mama - a former pro-wrestler - and will someday be passed down to him (once he’s strong enough to actually pick it up).

-In this AU, the GSA is an intergalactic military group fighting various malignant forces across the universe, their reputation generally positive thanks to a genuine effort on their part to balance acts of war and defense with acts of philanthropy, relief aid, and compassion, well-known enough to reach even distant Popstar. Most known Star Warriors - Sir Dragato, Kit Cosmos, Yamikage, etc. - are either long since passed on or retired somewhere outside of the story (with a few exceptions we may learn about later...). Though really more for background flavor and worldbuilding, the GSA becomes a crucial element to Meta's storyline later down the line, since - upon learning of them in his youth - he becomes enamored with their deeds and longs to be a knight himself (not yet aware of the hardships involved in becoming one).

-The kids like to spar and roughouse in their free time, but they sometimes get proper training from Dedede’s papa - a retired knight himself with connections to the GSA, who’d settled in Dream Land with his wife just before they had their only son. Meta looks up to him with the same admiration he has for the Star Warriors while Dedede doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with his well-meaning but strict father.

-In his early years, Meta is quite shy around people he doesn’t know well. In overwhelming situations, he tends to either shut down and go non-verbal or quietly slip away to recoup. That said, he is much more expressive around those he trusts, listening eagerly and chatting far more than he would otherwise. He also has a bit of an anger streak hidden just under all that resolve, though it takes a lot of prodding to bring it out...

-As a kid, Dedede is impulsive to a fault and likes to make wild plans that often put him and his buddies in precarious situations (when he actually follows through with them, that is). Meta is often the first to point out the flaws in said plans (if Para Dee doesn’t do it first) but inevitably ends up tagging along anyway, his wariness easily overturned by his curiosity.

-Despite the generally welcoming nature of the village, Meta still faces some measure of bullying due to his strange appearance and timid nature. Usually, he waits it out until either his tormentors get bored or Dedede steps in to defend him, but - as the taunts persist and his temper grows - it's only matter of time before he's the one getting into scraps rather than his bigger buddy...

When rewatching Kirby, there is one scene that isn’t talked about much by fans: (possibly) Kirby’s creation

The thing that I often question about this scene is, HOW DOES META KNIGHT KNOW THAT KIRBY IS A MONSTER!?!?

It really sucks that the show only mentions Kirby being a monster one time and never again mentions it again for the rest of the series.

In the next episode (dark and stormy knight) Meta knight tells Tiff about Kirby being a destined Star Warrior, but never mentions Kirby being a monster.

This is what he says instead:

“It was my hope that young warriors would appear. Warriors with new strength and new spirit. Warriors who would battle to defeat eNeMeE.”

“Starships are designed to automatically fly warriors to planets where monsters are detected. The king likes monsters, so I hope the young warrior would come here.”

“Kirby’s Starship detected the King’s monster…but Kirby wasn’t scheduled to awaken for another 200 years.”

“He is totally untrained. He cannot speak, he can barely think.”

“ Yes but luckily, he has great natural abilities. If he develops them properly, he may be able to defeat eNeMeE and I can help him.”

“My help will not be enough to make him a warrior. Kirby will also need your help. The Warp Star is the source of Kirby’s power. He has only to see it to get his power, but he is unable to guard it for himself. It can only be kept safe by one who truly loves and cares for him.”

I really wish that Kirby being a monster created by N.M.E. was mentioned more in the show.

Another thing I want to mention is who truly created the Warp Star/Star Rod.

In the finale when Kirby faces eNeMeE, Kirby swallows the warp Star and becomes Star Rod Kirby.

eNeMeE has an interesting reaction when Kirby transforms, implying he was the one who created the Star rod

“How did Kirby discover the secret?! That pitiful little star warrior has been my only weakness. I am helpless against the power of the star rod.”-eNeMeE (episode: Fright to the Finish)

How does Meta Knight know about the Warp Star being the source of Kirby’s power?

There are so many answers left unanswered and I hope if there was ever a Kirby prequel (focusing on the Star Warriors and their Kids (Knuckle Joe and Sirica)) there will be more to learn about Kirby and eNeMeE.

Kirfluff Week Surprise & Crown

King Fluff's Proposal (this far into the future, they battle their demons, Kirby becomes a star warrior & Prince Fluff takes the throne and now there's one thing left to do! <3)

Yeah, this one took a while, and I combined the two. I had to update the reworked lore from last year's (this one). I also did a few things to "foreshadow " the upcoming events in the main storyline.

Hopefully, they'll be a part 2 on Kirby's part! I'm still not done with Kirfluff week, and I plan on ending it with a bang. I look forward to the rest!

Why doesn't Marx want Kirby to forgive him, is it just the guilt thing?

Long story short, this is a combination of "the fear of getting hurt/rejected" & "shame and guilt," which results in self-sabotaging, but the main reason is...

HAMELIN REALLY MESSED UP MARX!

So, like Kirby with Cappytown... Marx was Hamelin's hero, but they betrayed him and thus turned to the dark side.

This all ties into his initial hatred for Kirby... he's very much angry at his former self for being so foolishly naive, and Kirby's good nature is too reminiscent of his former self.

That also makes it the main reason he could never truly hate Kirby... a younger self that he can't help but connect with. Leading to his "fake friend act" to accidentally grow to care for him and actually want him as a friend.

However, Marx knows he deceives Kirby the same way the people of Hamelin did to him... "pretending they cared for him." Using the very same methods, the townsfolk did to him... ("became what he hated")

This is why Marx doesn't have the heart to forgive himself... even though Kirby was always ready to forgive him and welcome him back with open arms. Because he knows he can never forgive the people of Hamelin... Why should Kirby? And, of course, he does!

The restoration of a friendship between Marx & Kirby happens~, But unlike the people of Hamelin, Kirby has this unconditional love for Marx and wants more than anything to have him back in his life.

I'd say these events happened after Planet Robboot... Marx finally makes his return and "saves Kirby?!" (I'm not gonna reveal from what because of spoilers)

With my interpretation of Marx, I wanted to take him into a sympathetic route (to make him stand out from the others). He still has the sass and mischievous charm, but I wanted to give him a proper reason why he is the way he is. It's a more heartfelt version of Marx that Kirby would want to be friends with and him in turn.

Marx represents "self-worth"; if people don't appreciate or treat you the way you deserve, then they don't deserve you. (Minus the piping all the Dark Matter back into the town as revenge...) KNOW YOUR WORTH AS A PERSON PEOPLE!

And he stands as one of the main reasons why Kirby ultimately chooses to become a star warrior. Moved out of the Popstar to travel and pursue his aspirations & dreams.

So Arthur pretty much reveals Marx's backstory to the rest of the Kirby gang... and needless to say, they're speechless!

He still doesn't want to be forgiven, so he stays with Magolor (which I cover here with Magolor's lore), but yeah, of course, Marx opened up to Mags about Hamelin. And that's why Mags is there, while Kirby & Marx are back in his place telling his story to Kirby. (Kirby saw it because of "empathic touch" but didn't know the exact details of it..)

And Dragato, yeah, he was already on his redemption arc (Falspar's already went through his with Fluff, so he's there for moral support, plus it's the reason why Arthur partnered up together).... he already knew he messed up. But now, hearing the full story that he was, not only did he fall for the people of Hamelin's lies, but... MARX WAS THEIR HERO. (I know kinda of shoehorned the crew for the sake of missing the gang, I just missed them I had to...)

There's actually a small bit of tragedy... while the adults sold Marx out, the children who really loved him would've vouched for him... it'll tie back into his character later.

And I know it seems like I'm painting Dragato in such a bad light, but it's part of his character development. And for those of you who don't know... HIS MENTOR WAS DAME MORGAN (LE FAYE)! So yeah, high standards, little affection, never impressed~

Which is why I still need to establish her a bit more! More Morgan coming up soon

I'm trying to get to the old asks I wasn't able to answer before (since I was still developing the lore...) And I just need a little break from the tournament plus, I've been working on some Kirfluff stuff for Oct.: Kirfluff week!

⚔️ (Crossed Swords) - What weapon(s) do they wield or specialize in, if any in particular? Any special properties? Do their weapons have names or epithets? [e.g. MK’s Galaxia, Morpho’s Doomblade]

★ Fal has a broken heart-shaped holographic shields to defend himself, (nameless because he never thought about a name for those shields-) which are shields reminiscent of Star Dream force field. The reason for this is because i designed that with the idea to show the connection between Fal and Star Dream, as both are ancient artifacts, although they are the complete opposite of the other

Literally, Star Dream is a cat the size of a planet

And Fal a fish that is a few centimeters smaller than Magolor…

★ Snow White has a magical weapon similar to a halberd, it's a weapon completely unbreakable and indestructible. This weapon was property of someone else until it was eventually passed on to Snow White, who would use it during battles against Rogue Star Warriors and criminals. Because of Snow White's fame as the White Hunter, Ruler would in turn also become a very famous weapon... In the past

★ Snow wouldn't wish for anything. Maybe she wants to remedy her past mistakes or prevent someone's death, but the Ancients are gone, the GSA is dissolved and the cosmos is at peace... She feels that changing the past now isn't necessary. Maybe her only wish would be that nothing bad happened to Fal and her new home (Dreamland)

★ Fal, for his part, has friends, a home, a job and Snow by his side, that is more than enough... Maybe he'd ask to be organic to know what it's like to have real skin (?)

🧋 (Boba Tea) - Come up with a Kirby Café item themed around your OC! It can be a savoury dish, a drink, a dessert, or something else entirely.

★ i'm not the best with these kinds of questions... My knowledge about food is... Super limited, not to mention just the basics... Ahem! i guess Fal would have a Kamaboko with rainbow swirls and Snow would have mochis, perhaps decorated with edible flowers... There would also be sodas... It's not much use but believe me, if there was a menu based on Fal, it would be a sin not to include sodas

🍒 (Cherry) - Out of all of the Dream Friends [Kirby included], which ones would they get along with the most? The least?

★ Susie and Magolor are evidently the closest to Fal. In addition to repaired him and given him a body, they taught him several things and updated him on various topics in which he lacked knowledge. Maybe he doesn't like to be the target for Magolor pranks time to time, but a little chatter about the decades of wondrous intergalactic travel of Magolor worth it. That cat is always eager to share stuff with his friends! At the same time Fal rambles 24/7 when he's talkin’ with Magolor or Taranza. Susie also enjoys the info dump of Fal, but she tends to cut him often since Fal can distracts really easily from his job. Although their relationship is not perfect, they are very good friends!! (i would include Lor but she is not a playable character-)

★ Taranza is another close one; both of them loves to rambles about plants! They are really good friends, especially for the emotional support that the arachnid provided to Fal in depressive and melancholic moments, especially when the topic of Snow White's death depressed the fish. Taranza taught him breathing exercises and also about gardening, although not much because Fal tried to bury himself in the ground just because he liked how it feels, so they just go to drink tea and eat desserts while rambling about plants and vent when needed

★ Marx and Meta Knight are two that Fal hates. Marx is really rude, a hedonist who plays jokes left and right. He even takes advantage of Fal's fear and usually has Gooey as an accomplice in his pranks. With Meta Knight it is more extensive:

1- With his goggles he discovered MK's attempt to take over Popstar and for Fal that is something that, coming from a Star Warrior, is expected but at the same time outrageous. He and Snow made an effort to take care of those kinds of individuals and even when the GSA dissolved, there is a Star Warrior who received no punishment or consequences for his actions. He can't understand why Dedede is datin' with this bat

2- Meta thought that Fal was some of Susie's weapons and with memories of Vietnam, he tried to get rid of Fal, which only made things worse between the two- i know it's a bit over the top of MK to try to silence Fal... But seeing as how everything between MK and Susie is something... Tense and seeing the disasters that ancient artifacts bring, i don't think he takes Fal lightly...

Snow doesn't know any of them yet, but from what shehear from Fal, she doesn't have a good opinion of MK

🥀 (Wilted Rose) - Do they have a Soul form? What would it look and act like? How much control over themselves do they have? Is it still possible to save them, or are they too far gone?

Ok, at first i questioned whether it was necessary or even possible because Fal is an AI, he lacks a soul, but Star Dream came to shut me up and remind me that even machines have something reminiscent of the soul

My idea for a Soul Form would be: The physical body inert/broken but looking calm or as if it were asleep, the core of the chest broken and a giant holographic sphere that came out of the core

What “hatched” from the husk would be a mass of warping, twisting and pulsating veins that look like colorful stars, their light alternating between too dim and far too bright all of them trapped in an gigant sphere that shifts in hue and drips along the bottom with a ghostly aura that roils and shimmers. It hasn't an ethereal nature, as it flickers and warps in shape like a projection of light rather than a real solid entity. Unfortunately for everyone, too far gone...

Snow... She's already dead, so her "soul form" would be more like a... Completely lack of sanity

It would be like... *grimaces*... Gretchen... Urg-

Pretty much like Madoka, Snow dreams of saving everyone and everything. "Soul Fal" despite being just the shadow of his former self will follow Snow dreams. Master and Waiter work together with a common goal... They will kept dreaming. They are both chasing their dreams

In life she had an appetite comparable to Kirby's, but she managed to control herself from time to time... But not always. Despite knowing how to cook good meals, when she came home tired, she didn't bother cooking and often ate canned food due to her tiredness. Snow has a great fascination for apples, anything with an apple included will be devoured without a doubt. Even apple-scented soaps.....

★ Unconsciously Fal picks up Snow's habit, but... It goes to the extreme. If something fits in his mouth, then he will eat it. Ham, salads, chicken, burgers, unpeeled bananas, polystyrene pellets, cans… He is similar to a toddler in that habit. Young children often put things in their mouths (such as grass or toys) out of curiosity about the world around them

★ He's happy to eat anything, edible or not. Fal has a list of foods that are his favorite; but he's still trying a lot of things and choosing one of THOUSANDS OF OPTIONS as his favorite is a torture for him. Fal can eat metal too, but he prefers actual food though, and he's a REALLY big fan of meats and fish. And sodas

If he could, he would drink absolutely all flavors of sodas he can find out there. And eat all the soda cans after that as well!

★ i think for the cook ability Fal would give a fish cake (Kamaboko) and Snow a Mochi or an apple

Incarnations AU is back, with more stuff from the poll I put out a few months ago!

This is probably the most fanfiction thing in this AU, the idea of a Redeemed Dark Matter. I always thought Dark Matter was an interesting villain for the franchise, and I've chosen to characterize it as both a villain and a victim. Something that was born from a source of great pain and hatred, that was never shown another way, and left to fester in its own misery for eons.

So, what would they be life if given a second chance? What if they were allowed to live again, with a new perspective?

I have a few ideas on how this could even happen. Most revolving around a Clockwork Star, a wish gone awry, and the concentrated power of a wishing star being too much to handle, even for an Incarnation.

It culminates in a battle between an unstable, barely holding together Dark Matter and Kirby. Kirby hears their enemy call out to them from the chaotic void. But it's not a taunt or a temptation to join them.

It's a call for help. For an end to the despair.

But Kirby doesn't destroy them this time. They spare the Darkness, because they believe the Darkness could do better, if given guidance.

Zero is the first to reemerge from the swirl, in a new form. It is still strange, still terrifying gigantic, but it is a broken and healed angel. It is in a new form, with a new life. Rather than Zero 3, Kirby decides to give it a different name. They give him the name Cipher.

Cipher's subjects form and emerge shortly after him. They emerge with a choice: Stay or Leave. Those who leave will disconnect from the greater hive and be on their own to do as they wish. Those who stay become part of the new Dark Matter. The New Kingdom.

Dark Nebula is suspicious and wary of this truce with the Star Child but is willing to stick around to protect Cipher and the hive with her life. Just as she always has. She becomes the head administrator and advisor to the new king, as well as the primary ambassador to attend events that Cipher's size and reputation prevents him from attending.

The Swordsmen emerge, and those who stay accept their new role as the royal guard, the sworn protectors of Cipher and Nebula. Some chose to leave. Some scatter to the stars to search for a new purpose. Most surprisingly, some stay on Popstar, becoming wandering warriors. One even joins the Meta-Knights. But those who stay take their duties quite seriously.

It's the Drones that are most intriguing. Most stick around the hive. But some decide to leave. Some become normal citizens of Popstar. Some become explorers with intent to return to the hive one day. Some leave with the Swordsmen, coming squires of sorts. And some... well, some can't let go of the old way. They can't let go of the need to infect and hide. It's with a heavy heart that those are dealt with, often by Cipher himself. But, those who stay are the bulk of the citizens of the New Kingdom. They serve as the staff to Cipher and Nebula, as entourage on diplomatic missions, as builders and cultivators and explorers. It's the first time they've been allowed to explore their own interests. To build and grow, rather than infect or take or destroy. They are Cipher's subjects. And he sees them with the same parental warmth Dedede feels for the Waddle Dees.

It's a feeling very new to everyone involved.

Then there's Miracle Matter. The one thing Cipher tried to create. The first thing he felt true grief for. The first to add to the hive when she was destroyed. She emerges from the cloud, still tiny, still strange, but with a very different role. No longer was she meant to be Kirby's counter, a copy, a corrupted answer. Now, she was Kirby's cousin. A new friend, one who they could teach games and play with, like Gooey and Bandie. Now, she was Cipher's princess. His daughter, in a way.

It's a new thing for him, the idea of family. But Nebula and Miracle are his unit. His sister and his daughter. And he learns to love. Love and dotes on them as would any brother and father.

They make a home of Popstar's moon. They keep in contact with Popstar. They try to make amends with other kingdoms, especially Ripple Star. They rise as a New Hive.

And they are happy.

🎶 (Music Notes) - Do they play any instruments? What kind of leitmotif and/or battle theme would they have? Are there any songs you associate with them?

starstruck doesn't play any instruments well, but she can bang a tambourine with the best of them during a festival dance! there are a million-and-one songs i associate with her in general, but as for leitmotifs... my personal favourite tracks in kirby, especially for storytelling, are sparkling star and supreme rulers coronation. of course. i think she'd have something that started off plucky, which is what you'd hear in normal everyday encounters-- but in different circumstances, the track would become ominous and orchestral. i think there'd be a significant amount of welcome to dream land mixed in there; probably references to the others as well; and with their help it would eventually turn determined, dramatic and triumphant personally i do think there would be at least one section with a quiet, melancholic, piano/choir/music box style rendition of otherworldly warrior, if you can possibly imagine that. now that i'm saying it i really want to hear it, and i wish i could make music!

- I tried to be as fierce of a guardian to the best of my ability... But it seems to fail, especially when it's "one" frail, powerless fool

- My older brother, he hates me. It's my fault really... I just need to find a path to a stronger tomorrow

- Sometimes, I just really can't stand him! Expecting me to be a powerhouse just like everyone else! Why can't my speed and small stature be enough...

- I still have lots yet to learn and discover, especially about myself

- Even being ancient compared to you "Dream Landians," I'm actually still considered quite young and childish among my kind

- My brother is the guardian of the Land. What a cool sounding name! I'm considered the opposite if you catch my drift

- These wings are my strength. I don't know what I'd do without them. I most likely wouldn't even be here right now if it wasn't for their perseverance

- Isn't the sky such a pretty color? During the light of the day, it matches me. But as the stars begin to set, the color really reminds me of my brother

- I hope someday my brother could forgive me. I never meant for that treasure to be stolen and become the root of a calamity...

- This ring? It's an artifact. Actually.. one of the only things left that even serves as a reminder of my clan

- I absolutely cannot lose this artifact! Heh, I wouldn't even be able to speak to you right now without it, person from the present

- The ancient civilization? Yeah I know of it, my purpose surrounds keeping their creations out of the wrong hands

- Whew. That was close! If it wasn't for this form, my brother would've recognized me and I'd certainly be put through the wringer!
