🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ GOOD queer news for the TL: a bunch of students across the U.S. are using grants to make their schools more welcoming for LGBTQ+ youth
Tumblr media
Queer students deserve to feel safe at school! We're in our third year of giving grants to put the power in their hands to make their schools more welcoming - students know what they need most in their own communities and their own schools.
Through 50 States, 50 Grants, 5,000 Voices, we've awarded over $1.5 million in grants across the U.S. to support student-led projects. Our third season has some of the most badass projects yet, like these:
❤️ “With this grant, we’ll establish an LGBTQIA+ community space in the library, open to all students, with guest speakers, arts and crafts, LGBTQIA+ books and literature, and LGBTQIA+-specific resources.” - Pocatello, Idaho
🧡 “Our project aims to support LGBTQ+ students through teacher training, development of gender-neutral bathroom protocols, and the organization of a district-wide Queer Prom.” - Gypsum, Colorado
💛 “We’ll take students from the 3 middle schools and our local high school to Honolulu Pride to make local LGBTQ+ friends, feel accepted in a large group, and see the community beyond just school.” - Ewa Beach, Hawai'i
💚 “We’re going to increase access to queer literature by working with a local nonprofit to expand our school’s collection, host storytelling events, and foster community connection." - Mobile, Alabama
💙 “Our plan is to create new Inclusivity Zones across the state in critical areas for local GSA clubs to meet, plan shared events, and be their own safe space.” - Charleston, West Virginia
💜 “We’ll host the Rainbow Youth Summit for LGBTQIA+ youth from across southern California to network, learn, and have fun in a safe, judgement free and supportive environment.” - Cathedral City, California
These students are truly the definition of making things better - you can see the rest of the amazing projects lined up across the country on our blog here!

🌟 Legacy of Light coming to Tumblr! 🌟
Tumblr media
HELLLO EVERYBODY
Here to make an announcement >w< My poll a while ago for shows you want to have my stories here on Tumblr too, and not just DeviantArt! I am proud to announce that my Kirby fan series, Legacy of Light, will be going live on Tumblr!
It will start with my prequel story, Book 2, called “A Knight’s Awakening.” It is a coming-of-age story for Meta Knight’s life prior to his journey as a Star Warrior, growing up from his childhood and into something more, and learning about his skills and those around him. It sets the stage to how his heart leads him to the stars and where he is today! This story is already complete, and will be released on January 1st!
The next story, which is currently under revision, is Book 3, “Tale of a Star Warrior.” Acting as the second part to A Knight’s Awakening, this begins Meta Knight’s story as a soldier, defending the galaxy, facing the struggles of leaving his past behind, and fighting an identity crisis. This is all in the realm we are familiar with from the anime; the war of the Galaxy Soldier Army versus Nightmare! Unless I fall behind on production, Tale of a Star Warrior will come March 23, the anniversary date of Legacy of Light! (and Meta Knight himself, huhhh what a coincidence…)
SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The artwork included today is a celebration poster from March 23 this year! Can’t wait to get things started, and I hope you are excited, too!
Please do not trace, recolor, edit, or repost my art without permission, even if you are planning to give me proper credit!
Twilight Knight, Xenolith, Shani, Basil, Jata, and Sky belongs to me
Draco species belongs to @starlightfyre
Kirby, Meta Knight, Galaxia, and Yamikage belongs to HAL Laboratory/Nintendo

This is a good article that gets into, in a clear way, what is being done and also helps clarify what cannot be done. For instance, politicians can't get physical, and probably shouldn't, with musk and his merry band of chucklenuts:
"Some political responses may help lead to other types of responses, but that is not their primary end. The primary goal of a political response is to make the political case. And that’s it."
"So it will help us and our cause to stop rolling our eyes when, say, a politician writes a stern letter to a Trump official demanding that the administration cease its illegal activity. That is actually what our senators and representatives are supposed to do. That is how they set the record and inform the press and through them the larger public. As discussed above, politicians don’t bring lawsuits. They usually don’t lead street protests. And the more experienced among them don’t waste political capital on performative stunts that don’t actually fix anything."
"That said, those letters and statements, which help establish the public record, are a vital resource. They are cited in lawsuits, often as evidence that the administration was on notice of its illegal actions. They point investigative journalists toward more reporting. And they are an important expenditure of political capital, signaling the priorities of our representatives."

The General Services Administration (GSA) has been directed to sell off or terminate leases for thousands of federal properties, leaving many employees puzzled amid the Trump administration’s push to bring workers back to the office. According to the Associated Press, GSA regional managers received emails this month from headquarters in Washington, D.C., instructing them to end leases at approximately 7,500 federal offices.
More recently, Wired revealed that the GSA has been tasked with selling over 500 “non-core” federal buildings, including those housing government agencies and even U.S. senators’ offices. The goal is to slash the government’s real estate footprint by 50% and reduce the number of buildings by 70%. The plan prioritizes offloading non-core office spaces, with tenants transitioning to private leased properties.

Just a lil much-needed queer youth joy - we need to talk about these students and allies in Hawai'i!
Students from Campbell- Kapolei Complex Schools used funding from one of our 50 States 50 Grants to give SO much support to their queer communities.
They bolstered their GSA clubs, held community based education events like a Halloween party and craft day, and even got to attend Honolulu Pride - where Hawai'i-raised Bretman Rock showed up for a surprise visit and marched alongside the students to honor them and their work, having attended the same schools themself growing up!
So proud of these students for recognizing what they need in their own communities.
And lucky for y'all...apps are open for the 3rd season of 50 States, 50 Grants right now through April 1, 2024 - if you're a high schooler or middle schooler in the US/DC/territories and have an idea for how you'd use the funds at your own school, don't miss out on applying: 50states50grants.org

Not to complain but I wish I got to actually talk to the queer people at my GSA instead of just sitting through a meeting presentation...I kinda wanted to make friends for once. It also sometimes feels bad that they only talk about gay and lesbian people and have genuinely mentioned Allies more than they've talked about anyone past the b in lgbtq. By all means allies are important but it feels weird to focus so heavily on them here

More Kirby eyes! Kind of a continuation of this post from 2022: >>click me<<
This time of my beloved GSA orbs and their Mirror counterparts! This was more of an expression practive/trying to nail down the personalities rather than a shading practice.
I think Dragato and Pendragon are my favourites of this batch <33
