bering and wells

when of if I started shipping it: Around the end of season 2

my thoughts: Good ship. Should have been canon. Love the angst. 

What makes me happy about them: How Myka genuinely believes in HG when no one else does, and how she is ultimately right. It’s a great character arc with highs and lows and angst and happiness. They have everything. 

What makes me sad about them: I really enjoyed their relationship, but I’m in the middle of season 4, and  I haven’t seen them in a while, and I know how the series ends, so I know they won’t end up together.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: I haven’t finished the show so I haven’t read any fic, but I would hate to see too much Pete bashing. I don’t always like Pete, but I really don’t enjoy character bashing in fics because it takes me out of the fic and is overly negative, so I wouldn’t want to see that. 

things I look for in fanfic: I’m a sucker for angst, so angst with a happy ending. 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Um... I was never really inspired by their romantic relationships with anyone else. Interestingly, I went into this show knowing that Pete and Myka end up together, so every time they say they’ll never get together, I know not to take them seriously. If Pete was a little less sexist and they were written with a little more sexual tension from the start, Pete and Myka would be a good ship, but Bering and Wells is missed opportunity. Generally speaking, I don’t blame shows for not switching course to make the popular f/f ship canon when the writers are already invested in a canon m/f ship - even if I like the f/f ship better. But this show wasn’t invested in romantic Pete and Myka. They were doing Bering and Wells first, so it feels like they switched course to make Pete and Myka a thing. This feels like the reverse of the usual. To actually answer the question, with some adjustment, Pete and Myka could have worked. I have no idea who I would put HG with.  

My happily ever after for them: They continue to work as warehouse agents, traveling, and uncovering more mysteries of the universe. They discover things they never thought possible. Also HG gets Dickens back, accidentally falls in love with him, and has to convince Myka to become a cat person.
