Rating Light Festival 2025 in Lithuania

#1 "Chronotope" by Ingo Wendt (Germany) - 4/10. The location was not the best, very far from the center, but I appreciate the concept: "The idea of this clock lies in dreaming about returning to endless childhood days and regaining slow time".

#2 "Hand of the galaxy" by Paul Friedlander (UK) - 8/10. Looks nice in reality, looks nice on photos. I believe the children loved it.

#3 "Heller-Forgó" (Hungary) - 5/10. It's okay but every Light Festival someone puts spinning flashlights... (I have no photos because phone camera didn't capture it well, so I put the picture by Paulis Jonaitis instead).

#4 "Dreaming sun" by Agnė Kišonaitė (Lithuania) - 10/10. I LOOOOOVE IT!!! It is made of hundreds of used tennis balls, and there was an adorable little boy who tried to grab one regardless of anyone around, even the exhibit's caretakers, it was so cute and funny. 😂 If a place is surrounded by happy kids, it's a good place.

#5 "The arc" (Lithuania) - 4/10. The Heller-Forgó but 5 times bigger, the queue wasn't worth it, imo. If this winter wasn't abnormally warm, I wouldn't have even tried it. Creaks loudly, moves like an old ship thrown to the storm, and makes other strange sounds. Looks much better from afar.

#6 "27.500 Parpadeos" (Spain) - 2/10. Well, they should have at least put a warning for epileptics... XD It's just... pieces of metal making weird loud noises and turning with flashing lights on a too fast speed on a too big square. :/ Moreover, it is clear that they had money: these huge pieces of metal could have been used to complete the RailBaltica construction. Other participants didn't have as many materials or resources, but at least they tried to explain the concept. I believe that if you were hired through connections, then you need to prove at least that you weren't hired in vain... The exhibit should have been called "Zero Effort, Endless Waste". These guys surely didn't think about global warming. XD "Vanity Fair" is also suitable.

#7 "Fragments of reality" by Alessandro Lupi (Italy) - 7/10. Low budget but with taste. I love the sparkling sky✨️

#8 "Hulahoop" (France) - 9/10. Kudos for the soundtrack by Grégory Sémah, it was not like others. What does this installation have in common with Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel?You have to risk your life and health to even get a glimpse on them, and the pleasure of contemplation is completely negated by the lack of air. Minus point because the square was too small for such a big crowd around, I wish they had exchanged places with "27.500 Parpadeos"... Life hack: if you have kids, don't visit exhibits in open-air small courtyards with queues of people: your kids won't see anything (unless you have a tall Baltic husband who can put the kid on his shoulders 200 m above the sea level).

#9 "Čiurlionis's light" by Petras Saulėnas (Lithuania) - 7/10. Atmospheric and mystical alley with the orchestra accompaniment.

#10 "The ice is melting at the pøules - legacy of melt" (Lithuania/Denmark) - 4/10. Maybe I'm just tired of global warming topic and monotonous monologues on German, idk.

#11 "Blocks" by Paulis Šaparnis (Lithuania) - 9/10. He's got the spirit!!!

#12 "Sfera" by Xevi Bayona&Alex Posada (Spain) - 100/10. I think they bring their art on light every year in St. Catherine's Cathedral, and I simply cannot imagine Light Festival without them. The queue is goddamn huge but it's totally worth it. I love how this festival's topic is the sun!

#13 "408 Posession" by Video Architects (Lithuania) - 8/10. I cannot imagine Light Festival without them as well! It's funny to guess which building they will choose next.

#14 "Point of view" by Marko Bolković (Croatia) - 6/10. It's okay, at least it's not spinning flashlights. XD The concept is classic and "it encourages us to think about how mainstream media shape our points of view, while a point of view can actually change in one "move" to see things from the Other's perspective. [...] there are two sides to each story - the good one (Light) and the bad one (Dark)." I've found only the Dark one because I was in a hurry to finish the route. :(

#15 "Echo of light" (Latvia) - 4/10. The concept is interesting but it looks too much like solarium from Lisa Frankenstein.

#16 "Oh Lord" by Guillaume Marmin (France) - non-rated. It must have looked really cool and my pagan heart loves the sun concept again but... I didn't find the entrance to the courtyard, and they don't let you in through the exit, which Sucks. I wish people (especially with little children) didn't have to make huge hooks and break through labyrinths in order to see the light... I feel sorry. Photos from Internet.

#17 "Ghost of space" (Lithuania) - 3/10. Aaaand... it's spinning flashlights with weirds noises again! Kudos for history facts, tho.

#18 "Model of an imaginary structure" by Jaakko Niemelä (Finland) - 6/10. Pretty simple but it's fun to watch. "The order of things is being questioned: how we see them, how they really are, and how they could be. [...] an illusion being explained in front of our eyes.

#19 "Invitation" by Arvydas Buinauskas (Lithuania) - I won't rate it because it's the business card of the festival, it's always here and it's seen everywhere and you cannot imagine the fest without it!

#20 "The creation of the worlds" (Lithuania) - 4/10. Why the sound column had worked so badly?...

#21 "Drakis"/ "Dragon" (Lithuania) - non-rated. Must have looked cool but again, I haven't seen it because they put it on show only for 2 days instead of 3, and I didn't know that. :( Photo from Internet.

It took me 4 hours of fastwalk (plus queues) to reach the end of route, and it was really fun, the weather was nice, and the streets were full of people happy chatting and scolding their kids and holding hands and couples kissing! I patiently wait for the next year's fest.

Another ESC Site Award for Harmonies

Monika's second appearance at the Eurovision felt like a comfortable pair of pyjamas. It was bright and warm possibly because of the colour of the background. It was a song performed with great feeling and unity of the people on stage.

I like that Monika starts by herself at the back of the stage and then walks forward to meet her backing vocalists. It worked with the lyrics and presented very well on stage. I like how supportive they all were together and how their vocals combined to elevate the song.
