Odysseus: My wife is too tall for me to kiss her. What do I do?
Ctimene: Punch her in the stomach. Then, when she doubles down in pain, kiss her.
Circes: Tackle her.
Calypso: Dump her.
Penelope: NO! DO NOT DO ANY OF THOSE THINGS! ASK ME TO BEND DOWN!

DINNER IS (finally) SERVED
3000ish words later and part 8 is here! hope you guys enjoy!
(p.s my headcanons explainations are in the tags if you're curious)
(p.p.s credit also goes to @rin-solo for the first headcanon )
the post/thread that started this whole au
dinner scene: part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | part 7
there's a masterlist now!
*odysseus is making his way to the dining hall, while athena and poseidon are following behind*
poseidon: *looking around at the decorations/tapestry dotted around*
poseidon: *see’s a tapestry of what looks to be a very much younger odysseus in full king & armour attire*
poseidon: *stops walking, and turns to look at the actual odysseus in front of him, then back at the tapestry*
poseidon: *to odysseus with a sardonic tone* do your weavers like making you look like a boy, or was that a decision you made to make yourself look younger?
odysseus: *pauses his walking to see what poseidon is talking about*
athena: *also pauses and turns to poseidon*
odysseus: *sees the tapestry in question*
odysseus: *sighs* of course you point that one out
athena: *who knew odysseus before he was king*
athena: *glaring at poseidon* uncle, you shouldn’t make assumptions, especially when you don’t know the facts
odysseus: *pats athena on the shoulder as he passes her*
odysseus: it’s fine athena
odysseus: *next to poseidon and looking up at the tapestry* if you must know, that is actually the age i was.
poseidon: *not believing him* yeah right, you couldn’t be older than fifteen in this
odysseus: *turns to him with a sharp look* you’re correct, i was fifteen
poseidon: *slightly wary of odysseus’ mood* so… you became king at fifteen? isn’t that a little bit young for a mortal to rule a kingdom?
odysseus: *turns back to the tapestry* i was already the king, i was actually crowned when i was thirteen
poseidon: *shocked and confused* why would a child be given a kingdom to run?
odysseus: *looks down with a sad smile, at the memory of his father telling him about him losing his mind, and how sorry he was to place such a huge responsibility on his young son’s shoulders*
odysseus: well, i had no choice, but i would do it again if i had to…
odysseus: *turns to athena* besides, i had athena to help guide me
athena: *smiles with a nod at odysseus*
odysseus: *starts walking in the direction of the dining hall again* anyway…enough of that, can we please just make our way to the dining hall now
*they all continue making their way down the hall*
poseidon: *notices a stain on the floor tiles not far in front of them*
poseidon: *points* i think your servants missed a spot
athena & odysseus: *both look to where he’s pointing*
athena: *chuckles to herself in knowing*
odysseus: *smirks*
poseidon: *sees both their expressions, and is confused*
odysseus: oh that..oh don’t worry it’s clean
odysseus: *shrugs* it’s just so hard to get bloodstains out of white titles
poseidon: *wide eyed* blood?
odysseus: yeah.. not long after i finished with you, i arrived back on my island to find my palace overrun with 108…mutts… all vying for my wife’s hand.
odysseus: *waving his hand like it was a simple issue* so i made sure to deal with them all myself… unfortunately one of them left a stain.
odysseus: -oh look we’ve made it
odysseus: hope we haven’t kept them too long
poseidon: *shocked at all the new odysseus lore he’s unlocked*
athena: *laughing at poseidon’s expression*
odysseus: *opening the door* come on let’s head in
poseidon: *shakes away the shock*
odysseus: *to poseidon* i guess it’s time to introduce you to my wife
*they all walk through the doorway into the dining hall*
*there penelope and telemachus both stand not too far from the dining table; which has quite the feast laid out, and from the steam coming off of it, it had not long be put there*
odysseus: *heads over to his son & wife*
odysseus: *looks at poseidon* poseidon, you’ve met my son telemachus before.
telemachus: *can barely keep in his excitement*
telemachus: hi- i mean good evening lord poseidon, i’m so happ- grateful you accepted my father's invitation for dinner.
telemachus: *puts his arm on his chest, and leans forward in a  bow of respect* i hope you enjoy the evening.
odysseus: *narrows his eyes at poseidon, silently threatening him to not be rude to his son*
telemachus: *looks back up at poseidon, smile on his face*
poseidon: *quickly nods his head in greeting to telemachus* good evening prince, your father tells me that this was all your idea
telemachus: *raises a hand to nervously scratch under his chin* um… yes i guess it was
poseidon: well then, thank you for the idea to invite me.
telemachus: *hand leaves his chin and a big smile breaks out* well of course! you are my father’s friend after all!
poseidon: *eye twitches before he quickly composes himself*
poseidon: yes… friend.
odysseus: *coughs* yes and now that you’ve both reacquainted yourselves again… telemachus why don’t you go speak with athena for a moment
telemachus: sure!
*telemachus makes his way to athena, and they start talking amongst themselves*
odysseus: *puts his arm around penelope’s waist* now, please let me introduce you to my wife; the queen of ithaca, penelope.
penelope: *doesn’t bow like telemachus, but nods in greeting* welcome to our palace lord poseidon
poseidon: *nods back* thank you for having me queen penelope
penelope: *smiles but her eyes have a certain glint to them*
penelope: my husband has told me all about your part in his journey home to us
poseidon: *totally not panicking a little* uh-
penelope: *glint leaves her eyes, but her smile remains*
penelope: -and also how you have helped out on his and my son’s fishing trips lately.
penelope: of course, i would also like thank you for taking the time to attend tonight
poseidon: sure… no problem?
odysseus: great, everyone has met everyone!
odysseus: *to everyone* now, shall we sit down and eat the lovely feast the cooks have made us, before it gets cold?
odysseus: *moves to pull out one of the chairs at the head of the table for penelope as he normally does, when he notices that, there is only one chair instead of two*
odysseus: *looks up at the table and sees a piece of parchment with ‘mother’ written on it*
odysseus: huh?
telemachus: *makes his way over to his father* oh! there’s a different than usual seating plan for tonight! i’ve put everyone's names where they should sit.
odysseus: *smiles at telemachus* oh ok, sure!
odysseus: well, i guess i should look for mine then, hey?
telemachus: yes, and please everyone else too!
*everyone makes their way to the table to see where they’re sitting (even though three of them already know)*
odysseus: *sees the parchment with ‘father’ on it*
odysseus: *expecting to have either athena or telemachus next to him*
odysseus: *watches as athena stands in front of the seat opposite him*
odysseus: *thinks it’s weird to put athena & poseidon together, but thinks telemachus has done is as they are uncle & niece*
odysseus: *then sees telemachus stood in front of the seat next to athena*
odysseus: wait-
poseidon: *sees his name and heads towards it, only to look up and see odysseus standing in front of the seat next to him*
poseidon: wait-
poseidon & odysseus: *both look at each other in horror that they're stuck next to each other all evening*
telemachus: *not noticing the looks of doom on their faces* isn’t this great? it’s a family dinner, so what better than friends sitting together?
telemachus: *turning to penelope* sorry you’re by yourself at the head of the table though mother
penelope: *smiles and waves her hand* i don’t mind
penelope: anyway, let's sit and eat!
*everyone but odysseus and poseidon sit down. both who have a death grip on the back of their seats*
penelope: *clears her throat* odysseus, lord poseidon… would you both please sit down.
odysseus: *snaps out of his staring at poseidon*
odysseus: uh sure…
odysseus: *sits down and look back to poseidon, nodding his head at poseidon’s seat in the motion for him to also sit down*
poseidon: *still doesn’t sit*
odysseus: *a millisecond of a flash of red eyes*
poseidon: *sits*
odysseus: *internally to himself* oh this is gonna be a long evening
odysseus: *to everyone* ok, everyone dig in!
odysseus: *to poseidon* can you get what you want for yourself, mighty sea god? or do you need a mortal’s help?
poseidon: *grabbing a lamb chop off a platter and tearing into it savagely in defiance*
odysseus: *rolls his eyes at poseidon, but goes to place a filet of fish on his plate*
*everyone has been eating and talking*
poseidon: *looks at penelope (who is talking to telemachus & athena) and then looks at odysseus*
poseidon: *thinking and then looks back to penelope*
odysseus: *to poseidon* is there a reason you keep looking at my wife?
poseidon: *jumps at little at being caught looking*
poseidon: *turns to odysseus* oh do not worry yourself, i have no interest in your wife
odysseus: *unimpressed* why do you keep looking at her then?
poseidon: im..curious
odysseus: *narrowing his eyes* about?
poseidon: normally you mortal men choose women younger than them for their wives… yet clearly your wife is; from my estimates… about a decade older than you
poseidon: *now with his hand under his chin, leaning on the table*
poseidon: do you perhaps…prefer older women odysseus?
odysseus: *hands tighten in grip around his cutlery*
poseidon: *notices odysseus hasn’t responded yet*
poseidon: i’m right aren’t -
odysseus: no.
odysseus: *his eyes may not be red, but are clearly full of anger*
poseidon: *eyes widen in worry* whoa whoa! no need to get angry, it’s just a simple observation…. anyone if they pay attention can see the age difference
poseidon: *moves his hand to flick his hair back over his shoulder* it’s not a bad thing
odysseus: *takes a breath in to calm down and then slowly releases it*
odysseus: we are- were the same age… physically at least
poseidon: *confused* i don’t follow
odysseus: *looks at poseidon* during the 10 years it took for me to get home… i found myself stuck on a goddess’ island for 7 of them…
poseidon: ok…
odysseus: *closes his eyes* caly- the goddess had full control over everything on the island… her magic influenced everything… including a mortal's ability to age.
poseidon: so you didn’t-
odysseus: -age? yeah
odysseus: *sighs and opens his eyes* when i realised i wasn’t… i- i-
odysseus: lets just say i didn’t handle it well
poseidon: *blinks at this new information* oh
odysseus: yep ‘oh’ indeed…
odysseus: *looks back at poseidon*
odysseus: didn’t you think it was odd that i looked exactly the same when we met again, almost 10 years after our first meeting?
poseidon: in my defence… i was angry and trying to kill you, i wasn’t really paying attention to how you looked
odysseus: *rolls his eyes* i guess that's true
telemachus: uh lord poseidon? may i ask you a question?
poseidon: *happy to not continue his conversation with odysseus*
poseidon: *to telemachus* ask away prince of ithaca
telemachus: is it true that you gave achilles his horses balius & xanthus?
poseidon: *amazed at telemachus’ knowledge*
poseidon: not directly… but yes i am the reason he came to acquire them. you see i gave them to his father peleus, as a wedding gift for his wife thetis…
*poseidon continues to tell the tale, and odysseus speaks with athena and penelope while more time passes*
*the meal is continuing smoothly as can be*
poseidon: *notices that odysseus has only been eating the fish. not touching a single bit of pork, beef or lamb that's also on the table*
poseidon: *who has continuously eaten all meats available*
poseidon: *to odysseus* is there something i should know about the meat?
odysseus: huh?
poseidon: *points at the selection of meat in question* what's wrong with the meat? you’ve only touched the fish.
poseidon: if i hadn’t seen the others eat it, i’d worry you’d asked your cooks to poison it or something.
odysseus: *raised eyebrow* poison won’t hurt you though?
odysseus: *pointing a fork at him* also, why do you care about my eating habits?
poseidon: *frowning at the fork* i don’t, i’m just-
odysseus: curious? poseidon, i thought you were the god of the sea, not curiosity…
poseidon: *huffs* forget it-
odysseus: i can’t
poseidon: *now his eyebrow is raised* you…can’t?
odysseus: *now using the fork to push the food on his plate around* i can’t stomach eating lamb, pork or beef anymore
poseidon: *forever confused by odysseus* uh why?
odysseus: *gives poseidon a ‘do i really have to explain everything?’ look*
poseidon: *just stares*
odysseus: *once again sighing because of poseidon* well i thought you’d understand lamb… after the whole sheep incident with… your son.
odysseus: then after i escaped you with the wind bag-
poseidon: *rolls his eyes at the memory*
odysseus: we wound up on the sorceress circe’s island… where she turned my men to pigs.
odysseus: i managed to convince her to turn them back, but it now feels weird to eat pork
odysseus: as for beef, short story is my men ignored my warnings and killed the sacred cattle of the sun god… so yeah beef is a no go for me also.
poseidon: *wondering how one mortal managed to interact with so many gods on a journey to get home*
poseidon: *laughs at odysseus* and you’re letting that affect your eating habits? i expected you to be stronger than that odysseus
odysseus: *narrows his eyes at poseidon* oh just like how you let my handling of your trident, affect you into doing as i say?
poseidon: *now glaring back*
poseidon: *turns away from odysseus* whatever, more meat for me
*dinner continues, with telemachus asking poseidon more questions. poseidon loving the interest in him and telelmachus’ knowledge, answers the all the questions with surprising enthusiasm*
*eventually what was once a giant feast of food has nearly been cleared from the table, thanks to having two gods eating most of it*
telemachus: have you enjoyed yourself so far lord poseidon?
telemachus: *smiling* it’s been really fascinating and fun to learn so much more about you
poseidon: *almost letting a small smile appear on his face in return*
poseidon: *instead just nods* yes, it certainly has been an interesting & knowledgeable evening
telemachus: what about the seating, was it a good idea to put you with my father?
poseidon: *wants to answer no, but feels a kick from under the table. clearly from odysseus*
poseidon: yes, you came up with an ok-
odysseus: *gives another kick*
poseidon: -great idea
telemachus: *laughs in happiness*
telemachus: oh but i can’t take all the credit
odysseus: *raises an eyebrow in curiosity*
athena: *who is sipping wine next to him*
athena: *slightly chokes* wai-
odysseus: *suspicious* son, you must make sure to tell us who else to thank for this
telemachus: *not understanding the bombshell he’s about to drop* oh athena actually came up with the idea!
athena: *suddenly nervous with the two very intense stares directed at her*
athena: w-well it was just a suggestion really…
telemachus: no ‘thena! remember you said as it’s a family dinner, friends should sit with friends!
odysseus: *to athena with the fakest smile* oh athena, how considerate!
penelope: *who has been quiet this whole exchange*
telemachus: *as if he hasn’t already unknowingly thrown one person to the wolves* but i of course had to run it by mother first, as she was helping me with all the planning!
penelope: *eyes have totally not widened*
telemachus: she said it was a great idea!
odysseus: *now to penelope* oh my dear wife, a great idea eh?
poseidon: *just chugs back his cup of wine at the revelations*
*after a awkward moment (at least for 4 of them) they continue on finishing the meal*
*eventually the food is finished and the dinner has come to an end, everyone has moved away from the dinner table and are now sitting on cushion chairs or standing around them talking amongst themselves*
poseidon: *looking out the window seeing just how dark the night sky now is*
poseidon: well this has been a lovely evening, but it is getting late and i have been away from the sea for as long as i can.
poseidon: *turning to penelope and nodding his head in actual respect* queen penelope, thank you for your hosting
poseidon: *without nodding at them* athena, odysseus… good night.
*before poseidon can turn to bid telemachus good night, the prince runs out the room*
telemachus: *yelling before he leaves the room* please lord poseidon, wait a moment! i forgot something!
poseidon: *turns to look at odysseus in confusion*
odysseus: *just shrugs also confused*
poseidon: *turns back to the door, telemachus long gone* uh sure.
*not long later telemachus runs back into the room dishevelled but holding something in his hand*
telemachus: *walks up to poseidon*
telemachus: *bows and holds out something covered in a silk cloth to him*
poseidon: uh-
telemachus: it’s a gift! i’m not expecting anything in return, and i’m sure you have better things… but i saw it and thought you’d like it
poseidon: *blinks, but takes the gift from telemachus’ hands*
poseidon: *carefully unties the silk cloth*
poseidon: *breathes in sharply*
telemachus: *not sure if that's a good or bad reaction* uh if you don’t like it that's fin-
poseidon: *holds his hand to stop telemachus*
poseidon: prince of ithac-
telemachus: telemachus- sorry for interrupting. please my lord, call me telemachus
poseidon: …telemachus. thank you, this is a very thoughtful gift.
poseidon: i will cherish it.
penelope & odysseus: *curious over what's got the god of the seas ‘cherishing’ something*
athena: *small smile as she knows*
*penelope & odysseus move closer to poseidon who is still staring down at his gift. once close enough they can see in his hand is a a handcrafted glass/crystal hippocampus*
*poseidon ended up wrapping it back in the silk cloth, and placing it in his chiton. He then thanked telemachus again and bid him good night & farewell. odysseus offered to walk back to the cove with him, but poseidon waved him off and told him to stay with his family*
#poseidon: *returned home back to his palace*#poseidon: *once again looking at the gift this time with a small smile on his face*#amphitrite: *looking at poseidon* whatcha got there?#poseidon: *stuffs telemachus’ gift into his chiton* uh… uh…MOLY?!#amphitrite: *raised eyebrow* the king of ithaca… odysseus gave you…moly?#poseidon: this isn't from odysse- *cough* i mean; no… he didn't#poseidon: it's from his son.#amphitrite: *now both eyebrows raised in disbelief* the prince gave you moly?#poseidon: *panicking as he's the god of the seas not of lies*#poseidon: well they're descended from hermes… he practically hands out this stuff as you know…#amphitrite: uh huh... what ever you say husband#okay headcanon 1 - calypso said 'under my spell we're stuck in paradise' & to me this made me think well if she controls everything#then surely a goddess' magic can have other consequences like stopping a mortal aging. or extremely slowly aging.#once poor odysseus realises he wasn't getting older but his son and wife would be...he broke fearing he'd outlive them#calypso obvs doesn't also want the love of her life getting old/dying on her too#also credit to @rin-solo for this head canon too!#headcanon 2 - it actually happened while i was eating a burger. i thought man i'd struggle to eat any meat after all what ody went through#and so thats how that came to be! i believe he will eat goat/rabbit/chicken etc. but fish is easier with y'know ithaca being a island#so telemachus' gift has been revealed! i thought a hippocampus would be better that just a sea creature or horse. why not both?#also there will be a part 9...ody's revenge/punishment for athena and penelope's seating plan#but i need a small break after this monstrosity#odysseus epic#poseidon epic#telemachus epic#penelope epic the musical#epic the musical#epic: the musical#friends in higher places au?#nonsense thoughts

Why does everyone keep saying Telemachus is a teenager? That he’s just a kid??
I’m honestly?? Baffled?
The man is at least 20 years old??
All I can find on Telemachus’ age before Odysseus left for war is that he was an infant. Google’s shit though so maybe there’s an exact age listed somewhere that I’m just not finding in my cursory search. I did however see a few people claim he was two when Odysseus left and to be fair, “infant” is an unclear term. I personally wouldn’t assume an infant was two—I’d guess under a year old—but technically speaking “under the legal age of majority” is a valid definition.
Odysseus was gone about 20 years as stated in the original Odyssey and Epic the musical. Telemachus says so himself in Legendary that it’s been 20 years.
Telemachus, as stated previously, is around 20 years old, possibly older given the vagueness of “infant”.
Odysseus was king of Ithaca and headed off to war about that age. Telemachus is not a child.
I know Epic portrays Telemachus as being a kid, but he is a grown adult. In fact, a good chunk of the original story is about Telemachus searching for his father by going on his own voyage. Odysseus’ journey home is actually told as a story later on in the books by Odysseus after escaping Calypso.

Chapter 1 of The Emasculated King (my EPIC AU)
Cowardice of a king
It was morning... again the sun rised up and out gleamed through the window of the palace. Odysseus' slumber was interrupted by the warm beam of the sun. The sun was practically telling him to get up but, he didn't want too. He was afraid. Afraid of going outside. Afraid of the hundreds of women practically 108 to be exact.
"Please... Please Penelope...!"
His sight being barley clear as he sees her right next to him on the bed but right when he tries to reach out to her, she vanishes.. from his sight. Was he dreaming again why does he feel so selfish?
Once finally up, out of bed Odysseus stares down at the empty spot of king size bed she... She really was gone..
"Penelope..."
He caresses the empty spot of bed as he starts to slightly get teary eyed remembering the times when she was there with him always telling him that she'll stay with him forever. But now, that seems like a lie now she left him. Left to the Trojan war, he was too scared to go he was a deiblós. A coward.
He grabbed his sandals within his reach, walking towards the door and then freezes his hand on the door
Giggling and mumble speaking can be heard behind the door
"Oh..no.. why now.."
He quietly whimpered to himself. Even though he didn't really want to, he had to go.. He opened the door to see a empty corridor. Odysseus peeks his head out of the door to the bedroom. Once step into the eeriely quiet hallway he felt a sudden chill.
"Hey Telemachus.."
There he was, fast asleep.. in his small bed. Odysseus smiled softly and caressed the young boy's head gently.
"Thank Gods your okay...(Sighs) I wish Penelope could see you now. You've grown so much..!"
The young boy smiled in his sleep and then turned, not facing his father anymore and faced the warmth of the sun through the window. The warm and calm atmosphere gets abruptly ended from the sudden noises of women suitress talking.
Odysseus hesitantly left the bedroom, heading towards the dining room
2
And there they were, 108 woman staring at him. The women gossiped with each other as Odysseus anxiously walked around the big room
"He's always wearing that blanket why is that?"
"I heard he uses it to hide his scars."
"That's quite cowardice isn't he a man, Men aren't supposed to hide their scars they should just show them out"
"I'd say that's quite childish if you ask me, especially with that the case he's constantly having a blanket. And he's supposed to be the king of this place that's quite pathetic."
They were right. Even though he tried to ignore their words, but they were right.. Right?
Instead of getting a drink liked he planned, Odysseus gets painfully swiftly pulled by someone who he felt deep hated for and yet feared at the same time, Calypso.
"Hey Odysseus, were you hiding in your room again? No wonder the queen left you it was probably quite.. sad to be with you."
"What, no..! NO! She didn't leave me, she just...went to...to war...! Because..."
"--Because a man was too scared to go to war."
"Wh- Wh- I-I'm not.."
He was pretty much speechless he couldn't really get a word out properly. Calypso smugly smiled as she spills her drink at Odysseus. Making him feel a whirlwind of a ton of emotions.
Odysseus, not paying attention towards his surroundings slips on something presumably what was left of the spilled drink.
All the women gleefully smiled as some of them started following Calypso circling around him
"Oh wow, he really is pathetic. How is a man scared of going to war and let's his wife takes his place there I'd say that is quite embarrassing."
Stop it
"You think that's embarrassing, I find it MORE embarrassing that this man is our king. What kind of king is so childish! I mean, he's already looking teary eyed from getting wet. It's almost ironic and sad at the same time"
Please make it stop!
"Yeah, the queen was way more mature than him I don't see what she saw in him-"
"I'M NOT A CHILD!!"
3
Silence filled the room as all the suitress stared at Odysseus with shock and disgusted looks on their faces
"Calypso- AHHH!"
Calypso snatches away Odysseus' cover, gripping him aggressively by the pained scarred arm. Odysseus let out a small quiet yelp.
"YOU REALLY THINK YOU'RE A MAN! ANY MAN CAN HANDLE PAIN, EMOTIONAL OR PHYSICAL! Even in the war... Come on ladies, let's have some fun with this.. man here"
"N-no please I don't wanna.. I DON'T WANT ANOTHER SCAR PLEASE!! AHHH STOP!"
They were pulling at him, hurting him, Odysseus' panic wasn't helping him either, his struggling was making the tightened grasp on his wrists more painful
"HOLD HIM DOWN LADIES, I wanna make this feel right~"
"N-no please..!"
Pleading for them to stop is pointless..
"Tell me, if you're really a man, a good king, let's see if you can handle THIS without screaming or crying.."
Calypso pulled out a small dagger slightly stained with old blood his blood.
Odysseus closed his eyes tightly not wanting to see. It, it was easier this way.. He winced and whimpered repeatedly He.. he should be use to this already, it was almost everyday this happens. The small blade felt like it was getting deeper into his arm, it was seemingly getting more different to hold in his tears.. the pain was too unbearable to not cry about man or not.
Once the deed was done, the rest of the suitress left the room leaving Odysseus alone with Calypso
Odysseus continued to stare at the ground not wanting to make eye contact with this sick fiend, that was right in front of him. Calypso lifted up the pathetic king by his chin making him feel extreme chills down his spine
"Awh Ody, poor Ody. "
She giggled and then continued her little monologue
"Seems like you are man. But, I wouldn't say you're a good king though. I still find it absolutely ironic that out all people she could've married she choosed you. A coward of a king. How pathetic."
After that he was left alone.
4
But, she was right.. Wasn't she, why would Penelope love him again.. Especially seeing how emasculated he became, how weak he became.. He, he really was a pathetic man. Could he really consider himself as king of Ithaca anymore? Why is he so useless and selfish? Letting his wife go and take his place into war while he hides and cries in the palace like a child would.
How the hell can someone be so worthless
Telemachus watched warmly as the sun slowly went down. While watching it go down, a big bird spots his eye, a big black one with it's face n neck being Red. A vulture. The vulture glanced back at him through the window as it flew away into air
"OOH MY GODS THAT WAS SO COOL! I GOTTA TELL FATHER!"
The excited child raced out of room towards their father's big bedroom door but something was wrong. Muffled pained cries can be heard from the other side
Telemachus gently opened the door to see Odysseus laying his face on the edge of the bed Telemachus trying to not startle their distraught father, slowly approaches him
"F-Father, are you alright?"
No response verbally, he only responded by burying his face in his arms more and slightly shuddering and breathing slightly shaking as well
"Dad please say something.."
"It hurts Telemachus... It hurts so much I don't understand why though..."
"Why what dad?"
"Why... WHY ARE THEY EVEN HERE!! WH-WHY... WHY AIN'T I USE THIS BY NOW!? WHY.. why... did she have to go!! I don't think I can take anymore of THIS.. I'm feeling too much it hurts! Why...am I such a awful husband..!?"
"Dad, don't say that mom loves you."
"She does.. But what if she doesn't once she returns home.. and realizes that I'm nothing but a coward and actually leaves me. Hell, almost everyday Calypso comes t-torments me everyday! And each time she and her friends hold me down to cut me.. to stab ME it just gets harder and harder not to cry or whimper the knife feels like it gets deeper and deeper into my arm and I can't take it anymore!"
5
"I'm sick and tired of being scared...and afraid! I.. I'm supposed to be a man, a king!And y-yet why can't I ST-STOP crying--"
An embrace of Telemachus' arms wrapped around Odysseus.. but why? The sad king still confused didn't hug back
"You seemed like you needed a hug.. Listen dad, I don't really know what to say about what you're going through... Except that I'm sorry that your going through so much.. And about mother, she's probably trying her best to get back to us! I have hope in her! And I think you should have hope too."
"I.."
Odysseus was speechless but the child was sorta right or atleast he hoped that what they were saying is true; Penelope told him that her leaving him was her protecting him though at first he didn't really understood what she meant by that..
"Telemachus I... Thank you.. I needed that a lot.."
"No problem! I'm always here for you!"
Feeling like he needed say something else.. anything but before he could Telemachus leaves waving his hand bye and shutting the door. What, what just happened...? Why did Telemachus leave. Odysseus got on his bed and stared at the ceiling and pondered;
Isn't quite pathetic that you have to your young child to help you with a breakdown
"No...!"
So embarrassing for such a king
"Stop..!"
So weak, what makes you think Penelope would love you you've became so cowardice
"MAKE THE THOUGHTS STOP!! PLEASE!! P-PENELOPE..."
He stared at his hand for a good while.. his ring.. Her ring from before.. He started to remember what happened when she left How she left..
The weather perfectly captured his mood; cloudy.. expect there wasn't rain.. Odysseus repeatedly paced back in fourth in the bedroom pondering on whether he should go war and "sacrifice" himself.. But the thought of him being separated from his love terrified him.. But why? Why was he so scared, why couldn't he stop to trembling What was he afraid of happening?? Dying that's what.. the thought of death terrified him the most.
5.6
"NO!! STOP!!"
No, it didn't matter if he was scared.. he had to go..
He, he NEEDS to go
Odysseus heavily sighs to himself and exits the bedroom and enters the living room where he left Penelope but she..was gone? She, just left him?
"P e n e l o p e . . ?"
Odysseus felt a a sudden chill as he turned around, hearing footsteps from behind. Penelope was holding his bow?
"Penelope what are you--"
"I'm taking your place love."
Her voice was so haunting, monotone.. fear stirred faster inside of Odysseus
"P-PENELOPE YOU CAN'T! I DON'T WANNA LOSE YOU I-I can't.. can't...!"
Penelope put her hands on Odysseus cheek
"Ody, you've done so much for me and I appreciate it.. I really do."
"Penelope why? I can go instead, I don't wanna..see you.."
Odysseus reaches his hand out towards her but Penelope stopped him and grabbed his hand
"Ody, I can handle this. Hey take care of Temelachus for me please.."
"But I..."
Penelope wiped the tear off of her sad husband's face and gives him a small kiss on the cheek
"Again love, you've done so much for me.. To protect me too. Now it's my turn, It's my turn to finally protect you."
And that was it, that was the last thing he heard her say as she walked away from him
Odysseus wanted to say something, anything that would stop her! But he couldn't move, why? WHY COULDN'T HE MOVE?!
He felt like his whole world was crumpling apart, his heart was shattering and breaking so much!
"PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME PENELOPE!!"
He screamed, but there was nothing, no voice or anything he was alone..
Odysseus cried, he was stuck in his own hell; A empty cold void where he was all alone by himself. Or so he thought when he felt a tight painful grip on his shoulder
"Awh poor you. It seems like we FINALLY have time to play~"
The voice was familiar.. it was mocking him.. She was mocking him. Calypso.
"HOLD HIM DOWN LADIES!"
Once that was said, a bunch of hands came down restrained Odysseus. He screamed
"NO NOT AGAIN PLEASE L-LET ME GO!!"
5.7
His heart was racing erratically his struggling from the women grasps on his wrists were making his panicking even worse
WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING WHY IS IT GETTING HARDER TO BREATHE!!
Calypso approaches Odysseus slowly.. Pinning her dagger instead of his arm.. towards his head
"No.."
"Bye, bye, Old king"
He screamed jolting up only to realize where he was.. His bedroom.. Once finally calmed down, he looked down at what he had left of his beloved wife.. His wedding ring..
Odysseus cried into his hands.. shuddering.
"P-Penelope... gods wherever you are please... PLEASE COME BACK! I MISS YOU TOO MUCH IT HURTS! It hurts a lot..!"
Dear god this took forever lol Anyway I hoped you enjoyed the first chapter of my AU thing there'll be more soon maybe... Hopefully

@koko-blueturtle asked for an AU where Polites lives, so here's drawings of all of mine!
(which I didn't color because I'm lazy)
LONELY WOLF AU
Odysseus dies at the Cyclops, and Polites is the only one who makes it home.
(get it? Because the crew is referred to as a pack of wolves and Polites has no one left hehehehe)
Tumblr media
Text in case you can't read it:
Grew out his hair and beard
Took Odysseus' cloak to remember him
Tried to save Eurylochus from Zeus' lighting, could only save his sword
Lost his arm to Scylla, Calypso made him a wooden one
Doesn't really know what to do with his life
SEA MONSTER AU
(aka the one I should be writing about lol)
To get revenge on Odysseus, Poseidon turns Polites into a sea monster, erases his memory, brainwashes him to make him loyal, and sends him to kill Odysseus and the crew.
(This was based on the time I thought about the Sirens scene in Percy Jackson but with Epic characters and everything spiraled from there)
Tumblr media
Text in case you can't read it:
Glowing scars from the transformation + lost his left eye
Gills on his neck
Clawed and webbed hands
Twelve tentacles
A lot of long and sharp teeth
Blue eye to stare into your soul
Lost his glasses
Poseidon took his headband (which compresses his hair like crazy)
LOTUS KING AU
After seeing Odysseus' decision to not raid the island, Athena is worried that her warrior of the mind is becoming soft, so she organises an emergency training session. Meanwhile Polites, left alone, succumbs to the power of the lotus, and Eurylochus has to find a way to make him snap out of it.
(This was based on the fact that for months I thought Open Arms was the Troy Saga closer instead of Warrior of the Mind and thought Athena was mad because he didn't raid the island and Polites was trying to console him afterwards. I'm an idiot sometimes lol)
Tumblr media
Text in case you can't read it:
Adopted and named all the lotus eaters
The lotus eaters gave him a leaf coat and a flower crown
Purple eyes because of the lotus
Living his best life
The happiest out of all three
And some silly doodles because why not
Tumblr media
Text in case you can't read it:
Poseidon: Go. Kill people
Polites: kay
Polites: My first boyfriend turned into ashes
Calypso: That's rough, buddy
Polites: Eury come meet our new 239746511184111 children
Eurylochus: wtf
And guess what? THERE'S EURYPOLI IN ALL THREE HAHAHAHA

It’s kind of crazy to me that with all the Greek mythology retellings out there we don’t have one focusing on Odysseus’s time with Calypso for the 7 years he was trapped on Ogygia. That’s 70% of his journey home.
You have so much room to explore the power imbalance of a goddess and a mortal man, the effect of isolation on the two of them, Odysseus reflecting on his life during the war and the loss of his men, his loss of autonomy, the emasculation of his position beneath calypso, the trauma of her violation, etc.

Someone sent me an ask ages ago about my Valdangelo hcs, but it somehow got deleted? I’m really really sorry bc I missed a chance of a lifetime to infodump so I hope you’re reading this if that was you and you’ve been waiting for my response- here it is. Please please please don’t be discouraged I love it when people send me asks.
This also doubles up as the third instalment of my series about “Why Literally Any Ship Is Better Than Caleo/Deep-Dive Into My Thoughts On All Leo Ships”:
Pt. 1 Valzhang
Pt. 2 Valgrace
We were robbed of Leo and Nico’s friendship. I get that there are a lot of characters and so many arcs to give them, but I wish that Rick had given them more time to interact and spent less time on Caleo, because tbh we never really cared about Cal for any reason other than to develop the men’s arcs. Because Platonic Valdangelo has so much potential that just isn’t covered in the books, I’m gonna base most of this post on what COULD’VE been, from fannon and headcannons.
1. They are Trauma Twinsies. By that, I mean they are both metaphors for different ways of coping with loss. Nico pushes others away from himself, not wanting to get close to anyone. Leo pushes himself away from others, hiding behind an idealised version of himself. Both believe that letting others in would just lead to rejection, and so they shut everyone out to protect themselves. But I feel like Nico copes with it a lot better than Leo does. He has an outlet for it- being emo. As someone who dabbles with emoism myself, I can tell you that, for me, wearing those clothes actually makes me incredibly happy. Nico is owning his pain. Leo is bottling it all up inside and then hiding it behind the jokes and the smiles. I feel like Nico could teach Leo to let it out a bit.
2. Also, their backstories match in more ways than one. Both their moms were killed because of a prophecy about them- leading them both to blame themselves for their deaths. Both have been treated as outcasts because of their powers, Nico by CHB and CJ, Leo by his family (and probably CHB as well, though we don’t really see how he was treated after revealing his abilities). Both ran away because of that. Both probably have religious trauma. They’ve both lost everyone they’ve ever cared about. They’re both being smothered with love and affection by Jason and the rest of the fandom. They both cope with feeling alone by spending more time talking to things that aren’t alive, Nico to the dead, Leo to his machines.
3. So imagine how they could seek comfort in each other! They’ve both been through similar things, so they understand each other’s pain way better than the others. I mean, Jason means well, but he’s never truly known what it’s like to be an outcast- he was held aloft on a golden shield and pronounced Preator. Neither of them would try to “fix” the other, and they wouldn’t try to “one up” the other either. They just share, and when the other says “that sucks”, they know that they really mean it. I imagine they sit five feet apart and just cry. No talking necessary, just silent understanding passing between them. They keep each other company, because they both know what it’s like to be alone.
4. They are both autistic (headcannon). Thank you to @aroaceleovaldez for opening my eyes to this one, and in fact making me realise a few things about myself and why I relate to Leo and Nico so much (pls go check out their posts on the subject, they do a much better job at explaining it than me). But it’s true. I don’t know if Rick did it intentionally or not, but I henceforth hath claimed them both as my kin, alongside Hephaestus himself (“I don’t understand organic life forms”- me neither, man, me neither). Leo and Nico communicate on the same wavelength, something Caleo doesn’t do. Calypso explodes at him for not fitting the “hero” stereotype, for being different. She has no patience with Leo when he does a social fuck-up, something I personally find incredibly frustrating. When he does something wrong, she just shouts at him, and doesn’t take the time to explain what he should do differently. No wonder Leo immediately got defensive! Here was this random woman yelling at him because he broke her table, and he didn’t understand what he did wrong.
5. They are both tiny- much like how Leo and Frank’s physical appearances symbolise their differences, Leo and Nico’s symbolise their similarities. Because all sad people are short, apparently. Valzhang is the yin and the yang, Valdangelo is just two yins excitedly info-dumping about their special interests, (Mythomagic, Machinery/Dragons). Their shortness could be metaphors for many things that they have in common, but I think it best symbolises their loss of childhoods. Nico has changed a lot since he was that happy little ten-year-old we first met in ttc, but Rick never lets us forget that he’s still just a kid. Leo always lacked the physical advantage in fights, so he’s had to learn from an early age to use his brains and his wits to defend himself. As a result, he grew up way too fast, but he still projects that silly, hyperactive little-boy energy as a way to mask. Calypso ridicules Leo for his height and his scrawny appearance.
6. Nico could let Leo get closure on his mom. Think about it. He’d be able to summon her, let him make peace, and let him realise that she does not blame him for her death. Nico could console Leo, reassure him that it wasn’t his fault, because Nico understands more than anybody what Leo is going through. This helps Leo on his arc way more than Calypso could, help him get closure, and learn to accept himself and his powers.
So, the summary of all these points is: They can understand each other on ANOTHER LEVEL. More than Cal and Leo ever could.
Like I said in my Valzhang post, it doesn’t have to be romantic. I hate that everything revolves around romance. Platonic relationships are important, y’all! We all need them, especially Leo, considering how insecure he feels about being the “seventh wheel”.
What ship should I do next? These are all the ones I actively ship, but anything’s better than Caleo. Liper could be fun, or Perleo. Maybe, to prove that literally anything is better than Caleo, I’ll do Leo x Octavian? Lmk in the comments.

Modern Emil: *solves your housing issue by locking you up in his house/ apartment with hidden camera at every corner*
yeah! exactly! or he buys one of those large traditional Japanese houses with the garden in the middle. you need to be able to go outside, for your enrichment ofc. then he puts security and cameras and servants everywhere.
imagining the scene from epic where Odysseus is on the edge of the cliff and Calypso is begging him to come back. emil core.
