KINDERGARTEN 3: Questions + Crack Theories
(Some done with @charismabee in messages <3)
1. Where are the other kids?
THEORY 1: The correct one. Bob adopted them all. Grabbed as many kids as he could see and took off with them. Their home lives sucked before? That's okay! Now they have a Bob! Unfortunately, despite his large janitor arms, he could only carry six children at a time. And by the time he went back for the others, they had been signed up to a new school and carted off by their parents. How sad. :(
THEORY 2: The Kindergarten one. They've all been kidnapped. Uh oh! They're hanging out with the mysterious disappearing former principal somewhere. Jerome is crying. Lily is furiously looking for an escape. Billy is having a panic attack. Ted "Felix" is being "Felix". Buggs is hitting things. Ozzy is having a panic attack. Things are fun <3
THEORY 3: The silly one! They're in the library. Regis looked at the troublemakers who have killed/want to kill/look like they want to kill people and put them allll in study hall together. And then put Ozzy there too. For funsies! So now they're all being scolded for committing all the murders and/or being Ozzy. Carla finds out she wasn't invited to Murder Club and she is furious.
2. What's up with Felix/Ted??
THEORY 1: After going home on Tuesday, Ted somehow discovered Felix's plans to kill him. Maybe he found the contract, maybe Felix straight-up told him (he is such a terrible liar. The WORST. I will be going back to this point in theory 2). However it happened, Ted learnt Felix wanted to kill him, pulled a Cain's Not Able alt route, and got his own back. He's in his Theodore era now. No more silly expressions. He looks at the space Felix left behind, and slots into it seemingly perfectly.
THEORY 2: The better one. Felix is pretending to be Ted. Felix too was grouped into the intended Murder Club, but he wasn't going to spend all day in study hall. Ew. So, he does the logical thing, and has Teddy fill his place. Felix thinks he's completely inconspicuous- like a sneaky hawk, so to speak. The thing is, he keeps "teehee"-ing between words and doing a frankly terrible impersonation of Ted. Remember all of his smug gloating throughout Cain's Not Able (e.g. "heheh... you have the most important part", the stealing Monty's arm plot failing so badly that Monty somehow knew Felix wanted to steal something from him and that said something was an arm, etc)? Take that and multiply it tenfold. Even the kids he's never spoken to before can tell he's not "Teddy". Meanwhile, Ted is sitting in Murder Club and trying so hard to act like Felix, but the only preparation he's had is switching shirts and he keeps trying to kill Ozzy when no-one's looking.
THEORY 3: Cain's Not Able just carried over through loops. Stevie's bandaged up, we only have one twin. Once again, Theodore arc initiated.
3. Alice & Ms Lovelett are related
THEORY: This one is simply because they are both redheads & Alice is an amnesiac. It's probably not going to be canon considering the amount of staff members' (principals') kids we have so far, but it's interesting to think about! I think it could add a lot of depth & mystery towards Ms Lovelett as a character, as well as giving us something to unpick about Alice's lost memories.
4. What's up with Monty's legs?
THEORY 1: The popular "Monty has Penny's legs" idea- part I. He went down to the lab (bc hey! Secret Lab! That sounds AWESOME for science!) and he found a Penny. A very dead, very robotic Penny. With legs. So, fitting right in with the weird limb rules of this universe, he does what Nugget did with Stevie's arm and takes those legs for himself. After all, it's not like Penny needs 'em anymore. He's being eco-friendly and reducing, re-using & recycling. It sucks that the skirt was also robotic. He could potentially get it off if he tried hard enough but he really wants legs again now and if he did there would be nothing else covering his new legs.
THEORY 2: The popular "Monty has Penny's legs" idea- part II. He still has Penny's legs, but this time, it wasn't his idea. If Applegate can somehow rise from the dead, who's to say that the superior-minded Dr Danner can't? Wouldn't be surprised if he's made himself immortal or something. He sees legless alive specimen Monty and legful dead specimen Penny and goes "hey little boy, want to swap legs with this robot?". Doesn't really matter if Monty wants to or not. His own legs are chopped off & replaced with Penny legs. He's so embarrassed about it. This will 100% ruin his street cred and also he didn't want his one-day broken legs to be gotten rid of forever. Sigh.
5. Romeo & Juliet
THEORY: This one's more of a silly guess/prediction, really. Either "Ted"/Ted gets cast as Romeo or we as Kid do (I like to think Kid will be managing all the behind the scenes stuff instead though :]) and Cindy demands to be Juliet. Only problem is, they're horrendous at acting. Cindy is over-the-top and overdramatic (like the queen she is). "Ted" is and always has been the worst actor to ever act ever. Ted too is pretty terrible at it and completely unused to being in the spotlight for anything. At least one character has stage fright. I can see Ms Lovelett as one of those teachers who start out sweet and welcoming, reassuring them all that they'll have lots of fun and put on a great show. But this is, of course, Kindergarten, so things quickly take a turn for the worse. She quickly becomes overbearing towards the performance, trying to perfect every little thing and criticising everyone repeatedly. With each passing minute, she becomes more and more frazzled. Her love for theatre is "insatiable", and she can't be stopped. The performance ends with the actors of Romeo and Juliet actually dying. Someone is poisoned, someone is stabbed. Maybe Nugget stabs someone. Maybe Nugget poisons someone. He has before. Seriously WHO thought it was a good idea to give him a knife in this game-
6. Regis' Deal
THEORY: Piecing together what we have so far, I'd say it's almost definite that he's the one behind the former principal's disappearance. He's taken on the role of classic Evil Kindergarten Principal, making both drugs and goo, making not just children but adults disappear too (hey K1 principal, imagine only being able to kidnap one child. To be fair he's a pretty sneaky hawk child who likes to hide in places but still. Skill issue).
Nugget's playing in the green goo outside. At lunch, he claims that he's "feeling funny again!", and at the start of the day, he encourages Kid to eat it. Upon doing so, Kid seemingly goes to the principal's office, where he is then sent to the medical room, looking distinctly green himself with a goo globule implying his death inside his last apple. It's safe to presume that this goo is at least somewhat similar to that of the goo in Kindergarten 2. Agnes adores it and it significantly disoriented Bob, so we can infer that it could have addictive/drug-like properties. It can kill people, as shown by the janitor's closet in K2. We know that it mutated people, and sustained Penny. It's dangerous. And there's a great deal of it all over the place.
In fact, there are elements from both of the previous principals' research scattered throughout the trailer. We see:
Green goo in a pool the janitor is cleaning in the cafeteria, a little away from the taped-over "STAFF ONLY CLOSET" door. Who has closets? Janitors. Who's a powerful member of staff? Regis, the former janitor.
Green goo pouring out of some sort of pipe into a puddle right below three tinted windows
The nurse's green cigarette smoke. We can guess that she designed the nurse's office, and therefore the posters within it- including the one discouraging/banning smoking inside of the medical room. So why would she be smoking herself?
A darkened, red version of the door presumably leading to the classroom. Dark, greenish stains cover the entire wall, but especially by that door in particular
The hole Regis drops Kid into for some reason. It has blood streaked down it- has someone been crushed by the closing mechanism before? Was one of the bloodied bags deposited there? Or, of course, did someone before Kid just spray up blood with the same absurd propulsion as a particularly bouncy ball?
IN THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE-
A brown monster with some sort of sword through its head
A bloody bag, perhaps containing the rest of the monster. It's leaked onto the floor, and bears a lot of resemblance to those seen in K1
A sword in a glass case, similar to the guns the principal had encased in K1
What does this all say? Well, I'd take it to mean that we have yet another shady principal/ murderous janitor on our hands. There's something behind those windows, something inside the staff-only closet, a reason why there are goo stains everywhere. Something happened to the former principal. Something's happened to the other kids. And Regis is the one behind it.
But other than that? Atm I've got nothing lol
I'd love to hear your own theories and thoughts on the trailer!! Maybe I'll add more to this tomorrow; the KG3 reveal has thrown me straight into analysis mode. No detail shall escape my scrutiny <3

Agatha All Along deep dive: episode 8 part 4
(Wandavision entries: [1][2][3])
(AAA entries: ep1 [1][2][3][4] ep2 [1][2][3][4] ep3 [1][2][3] ep4 [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][+1] ep5 [1][2][3][4][5] ep6 [1][2][3] ep7 [1][2][3][4][5][6] ep8 [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] ep9 [1][2][3][4][5][6])
as usual, I'm billy. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, JAC SCHAEFFER
jen filling the gaps with her own headacanons, i see you girl
they're kinda doing their own little agatha deep dive, lol. she's a fascinating specimen, okay? don't you just want to study her in a petri dish?
billy, who's definitely not been projecting his mommy issues on a whole coven (three dead, several unlocked traumas) and hasn't been following agatha around like a lost puppy in need of a mentor: it'S nOT LoYALitY It'S AnALYSiS
that's agatha's entire son, dear lord. 'maximoffs are so dramatic' my ass.
YOU'VE BEEN TRYING TO VIOLENTLY SHOVE HER IN THE WARM EMBRACE OF A COVEN FOR THE PAST THREE TRIALS. for fuck's sake, william.
he's acting so mature and cynical when in fact he's so hurt about the people who died and about agatha's betrayal. he's putting up barriers, he's trying to trick himself into not caring, when crying and letting himself mourn would be much healthier responses! in other words, he's learning alllll of agatha's shitty coping mechanisms.
no but I won't shut up about this, it's the kind of psychological response that really fascinates me. billy has had to learn to lie and censor his true self because he doesn't want to upset his parents. he went through something EXTREMELY traumatic (reincarnating in someone else's dead body? hello?) and he can't process it with the kaplans, he knows it would hurt them too much.
so he finds agatha who is, on paper, someone who can absolutely understand what he's been trough and could totally help and guide him. he's tried to win her over, he's tried to open up, to understand her and to be understood in return. and agatha, DESPITE LOVING THIS KID SO FREAKING MUCH, is so EMOTIONALLY CONSTIPATED that she has rebuked almost every attempt at a deeper connection. and when you do that to a kid, not only you hurt them, you teach them by example. billy is not mature enough to be the bigger person, he sees agatha hurting him, he'll want to do the same. that's the kind of shit parents imprint on you that will be hell to unlearn as an adult.
agatha, who is - I promise you! - truly hurt by billy's words: ahahaha ouch!
I want to strangle her
one moment of silence for jen who's now alone and stuck in the middle between these two
agatha has somehow managed to sell billy's immortal soul to her ex wife while ALSO breaking her own heart AND said wife's heart in the process. and she's having A TRULY NORMAL ONE about it.
aaaaand she goes straight for jen (no pun intended). starts slow and bratty with some kindergarten insults.
OUCH, AGATHA. WHAT THE FUCK?!! AND TWIRLING YOUR HAIR?!
YOU FUCKING BITCH.
oh dear lord look at jen's face. this is actually the first time I see everyone's faces (fuck you lighting department) and it's making agatha's behavior even harder to stomach. and yes by the way, this scene is absolutely a metaphor for microaggression. knowing that jen's big moment is coming is only a half-consolation.
also agatha falling on her face, that's maybe a quarter of a consolation.
of course it is. this is the green witch trial, it's about the circle of nature, it's about life and death beginning and ending and beginning again.
here comes the tantrum!!!
now she yells at billy. and he scrambles to justify himself. this is funny but also SO FUCKED UP??
lilia when billy makes a mess: that's okay baby I got you.
agatha when billy makes a mess: oh are you having a problem? I'M GONNA MAKE IT ALLLLLL ABOUT ME! I'M GOING TO MAKE IT FUCKING WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(fuck she's literally my dad. jac schaeffer I'm sending you my therapy bill)
so, anyway. if a parental figure does this to you? they're being vile and immature. I don't care if they've got their own issues, this is abuse.
(and frankly, learn to recognize this pattern in friends and partners and family too. but it's especially egregious when it's done to a literal child.)
and billy going from apologetic to stone faced. barriers up. he needs to protect himself from her.
while agatha huffs and puffs, jen quietly gets on her knees when she sees the shoes. the camera goes from sharon's shoes to lilia's to alice's.
you guys, this episode is... it's so good? it's not in-your-face like episode seven, but it's doing a lot of subtle things that are getting under my skin
agatha of course plans to barrel through her problems like a rouge zamboni, and just look at jen's reaction! I'm astonished at what sasheer zamata is accomplishing in this scene. I admit the first time around I was too fascinated by hahn chewing scenery to look anywhere else, I got a poorer viewing experience for that. jen has had all her walls up, she's been doing her one note mean girl bit for seven episodes. look at her now. she is crumbling.
god I love me a show that takes very funny characters and let you enjoy them only to pull the rug from under your feet and go: now let's examine why all their funny traits are fucked up trauma responses!
JESUS CHRIST AGATHA
agatha notices billy looking at the shoes and of course mocks him about it. what are you going to do, pay actual respect? cry and properly mourn? like some weak baby???
pay attention now: billy gets mad, and agatha suddenly looks at him with interest and, dare I say, expectation? was she provoking him on purpose?
yes, yes she was. that's the evil of agatha harkness. and I'm not saying her tantrum wasn't real, she was absolutely upset and she relished pouring all her spite and anger and desperation into it. but agatha's theatrics are always happening for a reason. when she's alone she's much more subdued; when she's in public, she vents out her overwhelming emotions trough a big fucking show, so she can make it everyone's else problem. that's the equivalent of when an abuser throws a tantrum and somehow always ends up breaking your stuff, never their own. it's both self-soothing and a scare tactic, two birds with one stone. that's why she went after jen and immediately taunted her about lilia. her words were precise and on target. she enjoyed watching jen squirm.
and yelling at billy just now? it was another one of her calculated risks. what billy is going to do next is anyone's guess, but at least they're not stuck on the Road any longer.
I don't know if I'm making myself clear enough. it's like, how can agatha be so smart and such an idiot at the same time? because she's a coward. because she chooses to. because the alternative is facing her own fucking issues and admitting the truth.
and the truth is scary. the truth is too awful.
next up: billy lands them at the morgue.
great job there, agatha!!
go to episode 8 part 5

I love doing posts like these and exploring these symbolic connections because it shows how raw and real the Nakshatras are in our physical reality! As much as I adore analysing personality, emotional patterns, etc; sometimes we don't need complex, university grade psychoanalytic analysis to spot Nakshatras- in fact, I find Nakshatras are best understood through looking at the symbolism that is effortless and natural in our everyday lives. The art people create, the clothes they choose to wear, the imagery & sensations that intuitively come to mind when you think of x person.
I think sometimes when we get lost in the labelling of Nakshatras or anything astrological (Rahuvian), it gets more confusing, when really a lot of the most meaningful gems of knowledge are very simple and visceral (Ketu). Some of the most revered 'words of wisdom', are sayings & symbolic musings that are actually extremely obvious- like kindergarten level- it's just that the hard part is to be a human and not get lost in the madness. To silence the mind.
The language of the esoteric realm is abstract, much like our dreamscape. Sometimes words cannot convey it all- but the symbolism is key. I think any of us who take interest in these topics can vouch for feeling that words & logical analysis come secondary to receiving the symbolic, intuitive information when it comes to anything occult related.
Thankyou for reading as always! <3

Yall i need to share something I’ve been on for a while
I fear that mileven being canon would completely ruin mikes character for me
Let me explain
First of all, let’s start with the rain fight- as soon as Will brings up eleven- mike retorts with “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls!”
Now let’s look at this From a Byler perspective-
Mike is projecting onto will- he doesn’t know Will is gay. For Mike this means “it’s your fault I don’t like girls” or “it’s my fault I don’t like girls” this makes Mike a bit more innocent in the matter- he’s not meaning to upset Will but we know Mike has trouble with expressing emotions and doesn’t think before he speaks
But in a mileven perspective: he still doesn’t know Will is gay- but he’s implying it in a disrespectful manner- he’s insulting his best friend since kindergarten for a girl that he’s only known for the past 3 years. When back in season one- If another member of the party would do this to Will back then- Mike would throw hands- so what’s changed?
Easy Mike has figured out his feelings for Will and can’t except it.
Now let’s look at the roller rink fight- and the roller rink part in general:
Byler perspective: Mike is upset at Will for not talking to HIM specifically- in the part where Will says “what about us?” And Mike responds with “we’re friends! We are friends” no one ever said you weren’t, Micheal.. Mike has NO reason to bring this up- there is no way if he doesn’t know Will is gay that he’d think Will would be implying something like that- even in the painting scene Mike seems upset that wills painting is for someone other then him- he’s jealous and confused and is taking it out on Will.
Mileven perspective: Mike is just being straight up mean in this scene- just nitpicking wills actions and not focusing on finding his girlfriend- Byler not being canon makes Mikes actions in the last too seasons even more upsetting- this ruins mikes character and makes him out to be a awful friend.
Then we have the “love” confession scene
Reminder- El is DYING in this scene- she’s choking and Mike knows this. He knows what he needs to say but utterly refuses to say it. Why can’t he? What’s so wrong with saying he loves his partner? Mike can’t say it because he doesn’t actually love her. But he’s scared of that- cause he needs to be depended on. But then will urges him on- which gives Mike the confidence. But why? If Jonathan had said it would Mike still react? No. Because Will is his bestfriend who he’s been shown to do anything for- even bike all the way across town in the pouring rain- just to apologize too when he easily could have called him. Remember Mike isn’t that athletic- he’s the least athletic of the party. But still biked super fast like he felt will would leave him.
Mike is confusing his platonic feelings for el for romantic cause he wants to be normal- but if he really is in love with her- he’s a horrible boyfriend that almost got her killed because he was too scared to say a simple 3 words.
He also states his life started the day he found her- you mean the day Will went missing?? If his confession is his true words- hes again an awful friend and person
Reminder- the duffers don’t believe in love at first sight- which is what they’re implying mileven to be- they’re also star crossed lovers which basically means doomed lovers.
Sorry this analysis was all over the place but what do we think??

There's this weird phenomenon where the people who are really, really invested in Campaign 3 being The Best try to argue that it's the most closely bonded party. when in fact the absolute strongest material with Bells Hells thus far is them realizing with a shock that they've spent almost three months alternating between "my way or the highway" and smoothing things over to the point that they almost shatter along with Ashton and realize that they absolutely cannot go on a time-sensitive, mission-critical journey to save the world without stopping to take a team-bonding vacation.
And to be clear, this rips, but it feels as though while Campaign 1 and Campaign 2 fans might disagree on their favorite campaigns, they do like their campaigns for what they actually are and simply have different preferences with regards to what kind of story they like. This particular flavor of Campaign 3 fans, and there's a decent number of them, only care about winning on the most kindergarten-ass "all you need is love 🥺" axis (also, shades of the bean-counting/points approach to media analysis) but as a result they put forward an idea of the campaign that's simply not the reality and it's like, do you like Campaign 3? Or do you like the fanfiction version of it you wrote in your head based on the first 10 episodes and into which you have slowly dissolved your brain? There's plenty of valid reasons to enjoy or even prefer the campaign, but it's easily the most dysfunctional party and that's fine!
#queue#the mewling THEY'RE FOUND FAMILY THEY'RE THE MOST BONDED crew is like. canonless behavior and for what.#you are allowed to love things that aren't found family soft cottagecore fluff tender cozy. in fact you should. that stuff blows.#I'd also add that like the issue isn't that there's no love; it's that the love is outweighed by the dysfunction#eg: does it matter how much imogen loves people if she doesn't respect their boundaries nor trust them?#honestly this relates to maybe my most core opinion re: the current CR fandom:#the whiniest people re ships or campaigns or characters mostly hate who plays them or who is in the campaign#rather than ship or campaign itself. ie: i think most people who are like this ultimately want C1/2s plot but c3's characters#bc it frequently overlaps with them not really liking the whole moon plot or blaming that for the party's issues which.#babygirl that is the fucking campaign. it's the moon plot campaign. if you don't like the moon plot you don't like C3.#cr tag

Bad Boy: No one calls Levi "IT".
I wanted to comment on something that I've seen these days in some meta posts of Bad Boy, but I haven't had the time till now to check the font to confirm my impressions and, you know, argue with receipts.
No one calls Levi "IT".
I also must say, the posts authors are without fault. The "it" in the (rushed, fan-made) English translation is either a mistake (I suspect machine translation might be involved) or a very unfortunate choice of words if translated manually.
You see, there is no "it" in Japanese. There is “this” and “that”, but no “it”.
The word the criminals use is “こいつ” [koitsu] which is a derisive term to refer to a person. Depending on context, it could be translated as “this guy”, “this dude”, “the SOB”, “ that MF”… you get the idea.
If you watch subbed anime, you’ll hear koitsu* all the time in shounen where guys are or want to appear tough – especially since, much like in English, such terms can be used insultingly, informally, or even as a term of endearment between very close people (as in “This mf and I have been bffs since kindergarten!”). Those guys likely use koitsu on a daily basis. I don’t have all the raws handy and neither have the time to go through them, but for instance, Hannes calls Eren koitsu in chapter 1 when he ponders about the kid’s wish to join the SC; and Connie calls Jean this when he “blames” him for his joining the SC in chapter 3.
There are worse ways to call people, and Levi himself uses a wide range of them throughout the main manga.
More importantly, although koitsu can be used for inanimate objects, this use is rather an endearing form in familiar settings. What’s important to note is that koitsu is not the Japanese “it” equivalent by any means and, therefore, it does not carry the dehumanizing undertone that calling a person “it” in English has.
Depending on context (and Japanese is a highly contextual language) it can range from very informal to plain derogatory, but it is absolutely not akin to call a person an object. Calling someone koitsu in the wrong context wouldn’t make them go “omg they’re dehumanizing me”, but rather “omg they called me something very rude.”
Of course this doesn’t mean the criminals in Bad Boy are any less perverse, but I think a clarification of this (I want to believe, honest) mistranslation is important for two reasons: one, to provide an accurate analysis so as not to atribute the characters, or the author, an intent that isn’t there; and two, to not give the haters an excuses to dismiss or disparage a whole meta post because of one incorrect piece of data.
*I’m using only koitsu throughout the text for simplicity’s sake but you’ll also see/hear the equivalent terms soitsu/aitsu/yatsu, which are basically the same, the only difference being the itsu in relation to the speaker: this mf, that mf, that mf over there... You also have doitsu as the interrogative form (which mf?).
Here is a very clear article regarding the use of these words:

This person literally defends the fact that Lucerys was killed by Aemond by wishing it wasn't an accident.
That's good, in the book, it's not an accident. And in the book, he was the one persecuting the Velaryon children. In the book Lucerys was 3 years when Laenor is death.
The series changed that to make him a poor victim. Except that Lucerys was always very small in episode 6 damn... And that the series is very clear on the fact that he and Jace were a follower of the schemes of Aegon II. It was Aegon II who started the harassment against his little brother, you chronic idiot. My god, this annoys me...
I myself am a former victim of harassment. I was from kindergarten until the end of my first year in high school. It's been a very long time. And I would never have wished for the death of a little boy who was manipulated by an older other teenager in what he essentially took for a game. This person is disgusting.
Anyway, this person was already defending Criston Cole, nothing shocks me anymore.
When did Lucerys deserve to die for laughing at the dirty pig ? When is this the equivalent of remaining a harasser ? It’s not okay right ?! At what point does calling him Strong, an insult implying that he's a life-threatening bastard, equate ?! Once again, it's not okay ?!
Oh and yes... Aegon II seems to have really evolved to support his family and his brother when everything he wanted to do in episode 9 ran away and very clearly the trailer for season 2 shows Aemond still coveting his brother's throne. There is no solidarity among the Greens siblings.
In fact it's simple. For this person, the Greens are better than the Blacks in the series, and in the book, to support royal assholes who are not whitewashed she proclaims that they are in fact all evil and equal.
Besides, if the Blacks are as bad as the Greens in the book, why did they have to transform Aemond into a victim that he wasn't instead of the harrasser that he was and the Velaryon boys, who were the victims of Aemond in the book, of accomplices / follower of his real stalker Aegon II in the series ? Well, maybe because the Blacks are not and have never been on an equal footing with the Greens...

"I can't do this anymore"
(or- nugget, penny & lily parallels because i couldn't help myself)
nugget & penny both reach a breaking point, and it's only then that they rebel against the principals. nugget was intended to be an experiment; billy was an accidental substitute. penny wasn't meant to be an experiment; she still acted as a useful tool. both nugget & penny know more than they should about what the principals are up to. billy confided in nugget about what he knew, penny's been exposed to it firsthand. the principals control them via drugs and remotes, and both of them are despondent because of it.
and then there's lily. lily refuses to take the pills, refuses to give in to the principals, and she ends up in the reverse situation. her brother's gone, she's bullied relentlessly, and she's losing the will to live more by the day. when cindy pushes lily to her breaking point, lily does the opposite of rebelling. lily gives up.
penny tries to die and fails, so decides to help with the rescue instead despite the threat it puts on her life. the female principal kills her for it. the moment penny fights back, she's given what she wanted- in a death she couldn't achieve alone.
nugget can no longer remember what billy said to him, but he wants to help nonetheless. he gives up the note even though it's one of the only memories of billy he still has left. nugget can read. how many times do you think he's gone through it, deciphering the handwriting and committing each word to memory?
lily can't read. lily's trying to find billy. lily's the reason there's a statue watching everyone in the playground. lily's putting herself in danger. nugget's scared of the principal, scared of speaking against him, scared of putting both lily and himself in danger when he's almost entirely convinced that billy's already dead. nugget makes a memorial. no-one but billy had seen inside of his cave before. in giving kid the note, he gets what he wanted too- billy back in his life.
lily gives up. lily doesn't fight. in that loop, lily dies. in a way, that's what she wanted too.
there's also a difference in how they give in. nugget trips over his words, tearful and scared. nobody's allowed to talk about billy, not without the devices in their pockets blowing up. he's overcome with grief and trying to reminisce about a friend he's been forced to forget hurts more than he can put into words. nugget's is a confession. nugget's is a cry for help.
penny cries out. penny's in anguish, penny's brain and will and body are all rebelling against each other. people aren't meant to be robots. penny knows she wasn't meant to survive. she's desperate, she's shouting because no-one will listen. penny's is a warning that she won't stay. penny's is rebellion, because she can't find it in herself to obey anymore even as a plastic smile stays plastered on her face.
lily's apathetic. every word is monosyllabic until she reaches the end of her sentence. "mean" is juveline, "mean" is simplistic. lily's a child. she focuses on cindy's bullying so she doesn't have to think about everything else she's lost, everything else on her mind. lily's miserable. lily's detached. lily speaks softly. lily goes without a fight.
…, !!!, . nugget gives detail, struggling to express just how affected he's been by billy's disappearance. penny's words are short and capitalised, as loud as ted's agonised screams when he's pushed into the hole. lily offers two short sentences: a surrender.
#if u saw this on the discord shhh no you didn't#one day i'll transfer all my silly deep dives onto here....#one day.....#anyway i thrive off of back and forth analysis so if you have any thoughts branching from this PLEASEEE lmk <3#kindergarten lily#kindergarten nugget#kindergarten penny#was replaying the 1st game and this snuck up on me#thanks nugget#kindergarten kid#kindergarten billy#kindergarten principal#kindergarten female principal#kindergarten 2 replay#kindergarten 2#kindergarten game#kindergarten analysis#character analysis#sihgkjfkgfkg

South Park Filler Guide - Season 4
Link for Season 1 Link for Season 2 Link for Season 3
I find the existence of filler guides quite amusing, since for some shows it makes sense (like Naruto), but for others (like Pokemon) it absolutely doesn’t and they still exist. So here is an attempt to do an absolutely unnecessary one just for fun. 😅
The classifications are CANON (an episode with major storylines present), LORE (in which we get significant backstory or world building, but could be skippable) and FILLER (completely skippable episodic storytelling, not connected to overarching story arcs)
PLS my analysis will have spoilers, if you’re a first time viewer, just scroll to the bottom and read the list and only read full text if you are familiar with the content of the show already! S4E1 The Tooth Fairy Tats 2000 is CANON
Loogie will be in a later episode, not in a major role, but Kyle having one of his greatest speeches here in important, since his speeches become a focal point later, might as well include this one. S4E2 Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000 is FILLER
Let's be honest, Eric IS actually racist, so the point of this episode doesn't even stand in the long run. We all know this one for telling us that Clyde is the second fattest, but that's not even lore material, as Clyde is a very minor character at this point, and the only time it will matter at all is a time where it's also stated. S4E3 Timmy 2000 is CANON
Basically, the main storyline this season has is Timmy's integration with the kids and the community. So his episodes count, since this is the one string that really connect this season. This one is big, for introducing him as a character and classmate. (in the premier he has but a minor role) S4E4 Quintuplets 2000 is FILLER
Kenny has an interesting storyline of his own, but both that and the rest of the boys find themselves in a very self-contained story. S4E5 Cartman Joins NAMBLA is CANON
This is a big one regarding Kenny's deaths. We have the first big clue to his resurrections. Also, this episode has the incident that would later convince the school to fire Herbert. S4E6 Cherokee Hair Tampons is CANON
Herbert gets fired from school and becomes a writer. What the kids have going on is a classic Kyle/Eric plot. S4E7 Chef Goes Nanners is FILLER
A random crush that gets resolved by the end of the episode? Check. An old relic of the town which we have never seen before and will never see again? Check. S4E8 Something You Can Do With Your Finger is CANON
Yes, we get a lot of Randy backstory that explains so much about him. But that's nothing on its own. Fingerbang gets formed and it will return in one of the show's most important episodes! S4E9 Do The Handicapped Go To Hell? is CANON
Wait, so many canon episodes next to each other, is this season 1? Seriously, a lot of serialization happens in this season, unlike the last one. Satan and Saddam story arc continues. Timmy story arc continues. S4E10 Probably is CANON
It probably is. I mean, it's a direct follow-up to the previous episode, and delivers continuation. S4E11 Fourth Grade is CANON
Diane is introduced, Herbert storyline continues, the boys advance to a whole new grade! S4E12 Trapper Keeper is CANON
Herbert gets a new job, Ike starts at kindergarten. S4E13 Helen Keller! The Musical is CANON
Because as I said earlier, Timmy's story really makes this season a cohesive whole. S4E14 Pip is FILLER
I have always seen this episode as a different continuity, since it's basically just Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Some people seem to believe this happens with regular continuity Pip, but I hope not, because -HUGE SPOILERS- this version of Pip gets a much happier ending. S4E15 Fat Camp is FILLER
Eric doesn't really get skinny. S4E16 The Wacky Molestation Adventure is FILLER
But it's darn good filler! Episodic characters get the main roles and everything is back by the end. S4E17 A Very Crappy Christmas is FILLER
We never see Mr. Hankey's family again. We get a meta story on how Trey and Matt created the show.
SPOILER-FREE RUNDOWN
Again, CANON means you should watch it, FILLER means you can skip it.
S4E1 The Tooth Fairy Tats 2000 is CANON S4E2 Cartman's Silly Hate Crime is FILLER S4E3 Timmy 2000 is CANON S4E4 Quintuplets 2000 is FILLER S4E5 Cartman Joins NAMBLA is CANON S4E6 Cherokee Hair Tampons is CANON S4E7 Chef Goes Nanners is FILLER S4E8 Something You Can Do With Your Finger is CANON S4E9 Do The Handicapped Go To Hell? is CANON S4E10 Probably is CANON S4E11 Fourth Grade is CANON S4E12 Trapper Keeper is CANON S4E13 Helen Keller! The Musical is CANON S4E14 Pip is FILLER S4E15 Fat Camp is FILLER S4E16 The Wacky Molestation Adventure is FILLER S4E17 A Very Crappy Christmas is FILLER
CANON counter: S1: 9 out of 13 S2: 3 out of 18 S3: 6 out of 17 S4: 10 out of 17 Overall: 28 out of 65

It is often claimed by many trans activists that genocide is being committed against the trans community via “anti-trans laws.”
More recently, Anne Fausto-Sterling, a biologist and trans activist, made this very argument in a post made on Twitter and Mastodon, another social media alternative. Accusations of genocide are very serious and should not be used without good reason.
This begs the question: is genocide being committed against the trans community?
Let's break it down piece by piece.
What is genocide?
The term genocide typically brings up images from intolerable injustices committed against various groups in history. The most pronounced being the Holocaust committed against the European Jewish people by the Nazis in Germany. This is because the term genocide was explicitly defined as a result of the Holocaust during the Geneva Convention in 1948-1949. The documents created during the Geneva Convention describe genocide as:
“genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group…”[1]
The Convention further described the elements of genocide as:
“1. A mental element: the ‘intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such’; and
2. A physical element, which includes the following five acts, enumerated exhaustively:
Killing members of the group.
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group.
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group.
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.’”
Using these very specific qualifications, let's go step by step to see if there is a genocide against trans people.
Intent
The very first part includes the mental element of intent. There are two parts to this mental element. The first is the intent to destroy. The second is the definition of what kind of group is being targeted, specifically religious, ethnic, racial, or national group.
Are trans people a religious, ethnic, racial, or national group?
Intent is already very difficult to determine, and as mentioned in the definition of genocide is the most difficult to prove. Is the intent of many of these lawmakers to completely eliminate “trans” individuals? If you look into the motive behind many laws being passed, the people proposing these bills state that they intend to protect children from sexually explicit content that they are not old enough to be able to handle.
Let's look at the example of the Florida bill known colloquially as “Don't Say Gay.” Officially labeled “Parental Rights in Education,” the bill restricts discussing the topics of gender identity and sexual orientation in grades kindergarten through the third grade.[2] Age wise, this includes children age 4-9. Why this age group?
Psychologist Jean Piaget, who explicitly studied cognitive development, defines two stages involving this age group: preoperational (ages 2-7) and concrete operational (ages 7-11). One of the major differences in these age groups is the change from self centered thinking in the preoperational stage to being able to separate themselves from the topic being discussed in the concrete operational stage.[3] What does this mean? It means children age 2-7 tend to apply everything that they learn to themselves. If you discuss gender identity to this age group, they are more likely to conclude that their gender identity is also in question.
In other words, children in this age group literally can't think about these topics outside of themselves. Is protecting children from topics they are not capable of handling appropriately trying to eliminate trans people?
The other example to think of here is the issue of child centered drag performances. Authors of these bills have explicitly said that the goal is to protect children from adult content. You certainly wouldn't want to show a child pornographic material, would you? Is protecting children from adult material attempting to erase trans people?
For the matter of the mental element of genocide, I think it has not been met in terms of trans individuals.
The Physical Element
The physical element includes five acts that meet the conditions of genocide. There are a few that can be eliminated automatically. The first is killing trans people. There is no group in the US that makes a deliberate attempt to kill trans people. The second that can be dismissed is causing serious body or mental harm to a group. There is no group that intends to cause serious bodily or mental harm to trans people.
That leaves us with three remaining acts, let's look at them in detail.
Conditions of Life
“Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
There are many that claim that laws being passed to prevent “gender affirming care” are being passed to attack the trans community. Advocates claim that “gender affirming care” is “life saving care” and that not having these treatments results in trans people committing suicide.
Is this true? One of the largest studies of its kind says it isn't true. The Swedish study found that suicidality remained virtually constant at every stage of transition from the initiation of hormones to after surgical procedures.[4]
Recently, reports out of the UK from Tavistock clinics have indicated that these treatments aren't helpful either. But the UK is “transphobic,” right? Except they are not the first to make this observation. This Finnish study from 2019 demonstrates that cross sex hormones aren't enough to give relief from gender dysphoria.[5]
This probably explains why Finland has changed their protocols for treating gender dysphoria and why they suggest intensive psychotherapy instead of the gender affirming model.[6]
In 2020, Sweden also had to change their policies, putting a halt to hormonal and surgical interventions and instead opting for psychosocial support until adulthood. Apparently, after extensive research, they determined the risks outweigh the benefits.[7] It's probably why France followed soon after.[8] The most recent country to implement changes is Norway, who has determined that puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and gender affirming surgeries are experimental and lack evidence proving efficacy.[9]
If it is true these treatments don't actually prevent suicide, then can you say that preventing these treatments is causing suicide?
What other options are there? According to the available research, the vast majority of children who identify as trans don't carry that identity into adulthood. In fact, the percent of kids who “grow out of” their trans identity is somewhere between 68-90%.[10]
This is likely why the medical organizations from these other countries suggest psychosocial support to adulthood. But does the psychosocial support actually work?
One study has shown that group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was able to significantly improve the moods and outlooks of trans identifying teens. It also gave them coping mechanisms to help cope with the many social pressures that trans and gender nonconforming individuals experience.[11]
Why are these therapies not being sought after by trans activists?
Jack Turban, a prominent trans activist and medical doctor, wrote a study that identified anything except for the gender affirming model of treatment as “conversion therapy.”[12] This has been turned into a rallying cry for trans activists, who claim that any psychosocial therapy is conversion therapy and an attempt to eliminate trans people.
If “gender affirming care” doesn't work, is pushing for “gender affirming care” pushing for suicide?
If most kids grow out of their trans identity, is pushing for “gender affirming care” pushing for harm against a community?
Is discouraging use of therapy that works in favor of “gender affirming care" pushing a group into self destruction via suicide?
Preventing Birth
“Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group…”
During the Holocaust, many individuals had medical experiments performed on them and often these experiments were done with the intent to prevent pregnancies or to eliminate the fertility of these individuals.
Is this happening in the trans community?
Let's take a closer look into what treatments people are seeking, since so many of these laws are looking at preventing treatments. For younger people, the traditional thing they want to do is block puberty. And the most common medication to block puberty is Lupron. But is that the only thing the drug is used for?
No, it's not.
Lupron is in fact the same medication Canada and the US uses to chemically castrate sex offenders and pedophiles to control their sexual urges.[13]
In addition, cross-sex hormone therapy has a known risk to permanently and irreversibly damage the reproductive systems of individuals undergoing these treatments.[14]
These are treatments that many of these laws are trying to ban in children. Trans activists claim that these laws are an attempt at genocide, and yet these “gender-affirming” treatments are doing harm that can actually be considered genocidal…
Forcibly transferring children…
“Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”
Despite the clear harm that can be caused by these treatments, some still push for these treatments. What happens to those who object to these treatments?
Some parents are now having their children taken from them for not pursuing the gender affirming model. Unfortunately, these cases happen with divorced parents where one parent refuses to consent to these treatments.[15][16]
Not only are some children being removed from their parents, but in some cases, children are leaving of their own accord.
California senator Scott Wiener authored a law that will take in families of trans identifying children who are seeking “gender affirming care.” The bill will also take children into custody of the state to allow for them to seek out medical transition.[17] This law went into effect January 1, 2023.
Of note, it is also Scott Wiener who proposed a bill in 2020 which does not require people who commit acts of oral or anal sex on minors to be registered as sex offenders.[18] It seems concerning that a person who is interested in protecting pedophiles also is interested in removing children from their parents.
Who Is Committing Genocide?
The claim of genocide by trans activists like Anne Fausto-Sterling appears to have no legs to stand on. For one, there is no clear intent to commit genocide against trans people, but additionally the trans community is not of any particular nationality, ethnicity, race, or official religion (although one could argue that transgender ideology is a religion, it is not a recognized religious group).
But, if one could prove intent, who is actually committing acts that would qualify as genocide?
Who is promoting treatments that don't prevent suicide in trans people while simultaneously calling treatments that help trans people “conversion therapy”?
Who is promoting treatments that eliminate and prevent births and pregnancies in trans individuals?
Who is removing children from families who question if these treatments are worth the harmful side effects?
It appears the group that is most harmful to trans identifying individuals are the activists who claim to be protecting them.
==
You have to remember this is a postmodern "genocide." I've been accused of this myself, endorsing "cultural genocide" for celebrating the ongoing decline of religion (as a hypocritical bigot, this person was completely content with the decline of Xianity; she didn't see that as "cultural genocide"). I've covered this in depth, but in summary, it's all about labels.
If children are encouraged or facilitated to complete puberty unimpeded, they'll more than likely (80+%) resolve the discomfort with their body, and they won't feel the compulsion to transition. They won't take wrong-sex hormones, with the risks and irreversible effects that go along with them, they won't amputate body parts, and they won't become life-long medical patients.
But social constructivists don't care about any of that. They even tell lawmakers that it's unacceptable, and even bigoted, to regard transition as an undesirable outcome. They don't care about the wellbeing of kids. They don't care about the individual. Critical theorists themselves will complain that there has been too much focus in the individual and the universal, and not enough on identity characteristics.
What they care about is blurring boundaries and subverting biology. What they care about is bolstering and populating novel "identity" groups. What they care about is that kids might no longer need to think of themselves as "trans." That's it. That's the entire "genocide."
It's eerily like Islam. In Islam, believers are either part of the thing, or we kill you. In genderism, believers are either part of the thing, or they've been "genocided." They're both absolutist ideologies, they just differ on being the aggressor or a manufactured victimhood.

If medical science intervenes and repairs a defect which prevents a baby from hearing, that's "erasure" of "deaf identity" and, as Nyle DiMarco melodramatically wails, "cultural genocide."
In a similar vein, "fat genocide" is the “the effort to eradicate fat people via weight loss as a form of genocide perpetrated by the medical profession” (direct quote from Fat Studies literature). You heard that right. Encouraging people to eat healthier and exercise is a form of "genocide," because there will be fewer fat people. Or more accurately, fewer people who "identify as" fat. And "erasing" an "identity" group is "genocide."
If you think the language is bizarrely histrionic, you'd be right. And if it sounds exceedingly unhealthy, you'd be right about that too. But it's not an accident or sincere misunderstanding. It's deliberate. The point is to use the most incendiary language possible, to warn you off getting in their way. It's why they've labeled trying to address a trans-identifying girl's homosexual shame or a trans-identifying boy's sexual abuse trauma as "conversion therapy." It's deliberately intended to make you think of ice dunking or electroshock treatments that gay men were subjected to, trying to make them "straight." Rather than what it is: normal, everyday talk therapy to resolve distress.
Like a brightly colored frog warning you it's poisonous. Ignore it. Unlike the frog, there's no substance, only the mimicry of substance.
More insidiously, it's intended to create panic in kids, that there's gangs of people roaming out there trying to murder you, or your government actively wants you dead. Even your parents are suspect. You can only trust your "trans family." We're the only ones who understand you. It's classic cult tactics. And comparable to when religions send believers out to proselytize. It's not to convert the non-believers, but to create uncomfortable interactions with non-believers so the faithful will be drawn back to the safety of their fellow believers. Us vs them.

Season 1. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Season 2. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Mike Character Analysis - Season 2 Part 4:
So now the whole group has made its way to the Byers house, Will is still unconscious and a spy, and demo dogs are on the loose. They come up with a plan to wake Will up in the shed so he can't tell where he is and spy again. They need information and can spy back. Several important things happen for Mike here. Mike, Joyce, Jonathan, and Hopper are the only ones in the shed. The people who care about Will the most. I'm including Hopper in this because he has done nothing but protect this kid since he's gone missing. So while he doesn't tell stories like the others (he hasn't known him as long) he still cares about him. It's Mike's story about meeting Will on the first day of kindergarten that first connects with Will and gets him to communicate with morse code. It's an emotionally moving scene. Mike calls it "the best thing he's ever done" and Joyce and Jonathan are visibly touched by this. Everyone is teary. It speaks to the deep bond between Mike and Will that it's this moment that gets Will to reach out to them and find his way back. But Mike realizes that closing the gate will kill Will - he's trying to sacrifice himself to save the group. And Mike won't allow this, so he comes up with another plan so this doesn't happen. Mike is the one who logically comes up with a plan to stop the supernatural forces in every season, except season 4 and it's part of the reason why they lose. He's able to quickly figure out what the problem is and find a solution under pretty tense circumstances each time, which isn't an easy thing to do. It's one of the many reasons I get annoyed with the Mike hate. He absolutely does have a purpose in the group and the narrative. He makes the plans that everyone else carries out. He's the one who strategizes. Now El returns and Mike has a melt down. Again, let's not oversimplify Mikes feelings. Yes he's relieved to see her, yes he's pissed at Hopper for hiding her, but that is not the only thing going on here. He just had a really traumatic couple of days. Not to mention the fact that his "attitude" (it's depression) has been something he's struggling with for the past year. Mike was already on the verge of breaking down. El was the final straw and the thing that pushed him over the edge. Back to my earlier point about Mikes melt down with Hopper. Mike is saying Hopper is a "liar" and that he's "disgusting". This doesn't really add up. Hopper never lied about El because they all thought she was dead and there was nothing to indicate otherwise. We have no evidence that Mike went looking for her or asked Hopper if he saw her around. The comment about him being disgusting is very specific. Yes, this could just be Mike and his attitude again but let's look deeper. Mike is taking all of his frustrations and trauma and putting it on Hopper and Hopper is letting him. HE IS TAKING OUT HIS PROBLEMS OUT ON HOPPER. So what are his problems here? - he's a liar and he's disgusting. The first one is more straightforward. A possessed Will screams at Mike that he's a liar when they are in the hospital and Mike is trying to explain why he needs to be unconscious. A moment that had to have had a big impact on Mike not only because his best friend is being horrible and yelling things that aren't true, but because Mike is doing what he promised. Will wanted Mike to make sure he couldn't spy and hurt anyone. Mike is doing that and getting called a liar.
The next comment is a little harder to clarify unless you take my earlier point into consideration. If Mike was all protective of Will at the hospital, did one of the soldiers/doctors see and make a comment about this? Is this where the "you're disgusting" comments come from? Or is this Mike internalizing things? Is he fully coming to the conclusion that he's gay and in love with Will at the worst possible time? - when El returns and everyone will expect him to have feelings for her. I believe it's definitely the last one and even if no one at the lab called them disgusting, bullies at school had no problem calling Will (and Mike by association) gay and have probably said as much.
This point is further emphasized by the fact that El tries to kiss Mike and Mike does not reciprocate. He has just been through a thing. El leans in to kiss him and Mike stands there with his eyes wide open and doesn't move. It's honestly inappropriate that she tries to do this and she's clearly recreating all the soap operas she's watched. They haven't seen each other in a year and she is just picking up where they left off, but Mike is in a whole new place. Hopper interrupts this moment, I'm pretty sure he's trying to spare Mike here (I wrote more about this here). And we have Mike watching both El and Will leave the Byers house. Something we see again in season 3. The easy answer is that he's watching El leave and is just so emotional at her return. But again this over-simplifies his feelings. Yes this is part of it, but Mike has just been through it. And he has been through it with Will. This has been a long shitty night and he just broke down and now both El and Will are off to go put themselves in even more danger and he's being told to stay home.
Something pretty subtle happens when Will and El both leave the Byers. The rest of the kids are left at the house with Steve and Dustin and Mike are trying to come up with a plan to help out. Mike's idea is entirely based off of what he saw happen at the lab. On the surface, he's helping El. But what he's really doing is helping Will. Because his plan is to go into the tunnels and use fire to distract the demogorgon. But he saw what the fire did to Will. He saw how when he was possessed this cause him pain. Only now he knows that Will is fully possessed and the MF likes it cold. It's what Jonathan, Joyce, and Nancy are doing at the cabin. They are sweating the MF out. And it's this last push by Mike in the tunnels that ends up saving Will. Will goes through his de-possession with Joyce, Jonathan, and Nancy. Mike is away from him for the first time all season. It's important to note that Mike doesn't bring El up at all through any of the lab drama. The last time he mentions her is at the school when he thinks he sees her walking around. Afterward, his entire focus is on Will until she returns. Of course it is, Will is his best friend and he's in trouble. So Mike is now not with Will for the first time and it's noticeable. It's the start of Mike not being able to figure out what he's doing when El and Will exist in the same space with him. A theme that continues through the next 2 seasons.

Patient H: An acute worry about urination
7th March 2024
I have resumed my explorations in the Melanie Klein archive this month after a short time away. My latest find comes from the B files, which contain Klein’s clinical notes on both adult and child patients. Here I'm sharing some excerpts from file B.69, which contains notes on a male patient, ‘H’, from 1940. The file is fairly large, running to some 67 pages, so I am picking out some particularly thought-provoking fragments here. If you want to read more of this material, you can do so at PP/KLE/B.69 on the Wellcome Library website.
The file opens with Klein describing patient H’s ‘acute worry about urination’, which is connected to fears he has about his penis. She writes,
‘…from an analysis many years ago, he knows much about castration fear, and has evidently stabilised himself in localising his fears in this way.’ [image 3/67]

Klein writes that H’s worry about his penis and about urination is connected to a fear of ‘internal trouble’ or disease, and of cancer specifically. She links these preoccupations to a concern that arose during H’s adolescence, related to his enthusiasm for collecting butterflies and insects: namely, a presentiment that the cabinets in which the creatures were displayed would become disarranged. Klein describes the rituals by which H tried to ensure the cabinets were not tampered with, and records that he could eventually no longer bear the strain of his anxieties and gave up collecting altogether.
She writes, ‘his fears about internal disaster…actually, the fears about the inside, the cabinets, and the penis, are alternating…,’ and also that his, ‘fear about the penis [is] obviously over-emphasised in order to keep away from these internal fears’. [image 4/67]
‘Abundant dream material’ follows from Klein’s connection of these things, and she records that,
‘the butterfly, a very much admired and loved object to begin with, in a dream changed into another insect with mutilated wings, much less good, and also much less attractive, and then into the insect which paralyses another insect.’ [image 4/67]
Klein’s notes show her interpreting H’s dream in light of his dread of homosexuality, which he feels ‘would be somehow disastrous for his penis’. H associates to catching a butterfly with a white net, and Klein says this highlights H’s longing for a good penis, and that the net represents, ‘the mouth by which he took in the penis of the father, a good object, [which] changes instantly into a more and more dangerous one as soon as it is inside.’ In association, H recalls,
‘…feelings of being insincere towards his mother, who seemed to think that he was a paragon of virtue, beyond temptation, as it were, and he knew, when she said something of the kind…that he was interested in other boys’ penises. This interest was quite conscious. He took it that it was mainly to compare them with his own, which, in childhood he had felt to be inferior and damaged. He feels also that in his frequent urination the penis has shrunk, and he must see it and make sure that it is still there. That is one of his conscious feelings about the obsession to urinate.’ [image 5/67]
Feelings of insincerity follow, Klein writes, from H’s sense that he has robbed his mother of father’s good penis, represented by the butterfly he tries to catch.
H’s father, Klein notes, is a frightening figure felt to be violent and dangerous. Whilst H recalls feeling little warmth for his mother, he does bring a memory of clinging to her bedsheets when he was terrified of going to kindergarten. Klein notes that,
‘…he was so terrified that his only help was to stand there with closed eyes, which seem[ed] to relieve some anxiety, as if he would see something awful if he opened his eyes…he feels the terror was that he left his mother behind in danger.’ [image 6/67]
H also remembers,
‘…that when his parents had not come up from the evening meal by eight o’clock – which had been a ritual – then he started to yell, so that it could be heard all over the house. If they came up by eight then it seemed to be all right. We understood that some awful danger was to happen to them at night time, and that this was shifted on to this definite hour at which he knew that the parents were at a meal with the people there as well.’ [image 6/67]
On 19th March 1940, H tells Klein that he feels peaceful. He is reluctant to admit any improvement, lest things go wrong again (Klein thinks that he is referring here to intercourse), but there are no symptoms to speak of, no indigestion or urination trouble. H then reports a dream, a fragment of which I will share here:
‘A man drove him in a very fine car to someplace which he thinks must have been a scientific meeting. (This man has been a very important person in his own line of work. In the past he looked up very much to him and would also have liked this man to take notice of him and be interested in him, but that was not the case. Now of course the situation is altered. This man has retired, and H feels that he can triumph over him because he may quite easily get ahead of this man’s former work.) In the dream it seemed quite a…[word missing] that this man drove him there, but then both the man and the car seem to have gone, and H was trying hard to find them. He had already taken notice of landmarks to remember the way back…as if he himself would have to find the way.’ [image 15–16/67]

Klein tells H that the man who drove him had clearly helped him, and meant something to him. He was important too, and has a very fine car. She notes H’s great wish to have a car of his own. The situation of being driven by an important man, Klein says, ‘points to the internalised father’, and she connects H’s admiration of this man’s work to his admiration of his own father, who built a harbour in a place where they spent summer holidays. She suggests,
‘…there may have been great admiration in [the] early days for the potent father, the father who owned mother, who made children, who had skill and power, etc. Great desire and longing to be on good terms with his father, to be taught by him, to be introduced into sexuality, to share with him mother. I suggest that the fine car stands for mother.’ [image 17/67]
Klein also writes that,
‘H was in the dream trying to undo the loss of the important and good father and the mother, wishing to have the two with him and united in a good way inside him. At the same time the wish to become independent of his internal figures, the landmarks he made because he was going to find the way himself…In this hour as well as in former ones, much work about the repression of his love and admiration for his father, actually there is only one friendly memory so far, when his father had him on his knee, and offered him a chestnut, which H very much liked, but could not accept it, and told his father he could not accept it because he had to find chestnuts for himself. He thinks his father was very angry.’ [image 18-19/67]
To learn more about Klein’s work with H, readers should go to PP/KLE/B.69, and start from image 19/67, where the notes reproduced here end. I will certainly be doing this, and in my next blog post may bring more about H, or perhaps another of the patients who appear in this fascinating file. I am struck that, in the brief excerpts I have shared, Klein is once more grappling with the way in which the patient’s conception of a parental couple powerfully influences both his sense of himself and his relations with others. She clearly feels it is part of her role to help H uncover the better memories of his parents, which she perceives in his material – though often deeply buried.
