also another random thought i had about tnr while i was watching the finale episode. i wondered how different it would be if the humans and the dragons actually decided to keep living together instead of it basically having the same outcome as in the 3rd movie, where they separated and took on their own separate lives? ( this post became long asf so im just gonna put it under a cut oop, & it also contains spoilers for tnr s8!! )
lemme explain — when httyd 3 came out, i remember that there were (and still are) a lot of disagreements with its ending since the whole message of the franchise seemed to be about two different species living in harmony and working together especially after their centuries-long history of being enemies, and a lot of fans voiced that the ending of the 3rd movie kind of betrayed that message. of course, the franchise's argument was that it wasn't safe for the dragons and the humans to be together because there will always be greedy humans out there to harm the dragons — in the context of the show, sledkin's and buzzsaw's "arcs" (if you can even call them that) were sort of modern reflections of that danger that could come to the dragons with their existence being public knowledge. of course, we can see this throughout the original franchise as well, from viggo and ryker to drago and grimmel and their respective allies and armies.
basically what i'm trying to get at here is if this series decided to take an alternate route and have the dragons and the humans live in harmony together instead of separating (again), would that have been a chance to "undo" the 3rd movie's "mistakes"? or was it better for the series to go the more "traditional" route and take after the 3rd movie, expressing that even after over 1000 years of humans and dragons living apart, it's simply not safe for the humans and dragons to live together because of the loss of the secrets of the dragons, for the world not knowing about them and in turn not knowing how to take care of them and protect them from the evil of some humans? (of course, i'm putting everything in quotes here because i am attempting to describe everything from a non-objective standpoint, including opinions about the 3rd movie in particular which i am still grappling to come to any conclusions with for myself.)
my views retain a considerable separation between the original franchise and this show, mostly because, in this series in particular, we have. ahem. capitalism. particularly the really nasty late stage "i'm gonna control every aspect of your life" capitalism. as many of us may know, many capitalists will stop at nothing to procure their earnings, even if it means exploiting living beings for their profits and developments. sledkin's whole "arc" was a demonstration of this, her desire for fame and money and profit leading to an eventual disregard for the well-being of the subjects she was studying — and eventually using — to get her fame and her profit. her lack of ethics in her practice shows just how much she was influenced by this system, and in turn caused her to develop a disregard for the well-being of the dragons, the subjects of her study (besides the dragonsite ofc). to me, it kind of demonstrated how these systems make the ethics within scientific research very difficult. like sledkin, if you only care about the money, it's likely that you probably don't care about the safety and well-being of the subjects you're studying. which in a sense, is also a reflection of the villains of the original franchise — they wanted something so badly that they didn't care who they hurt in order to get it.
anyways i didn't mean for this to turn into a whole fucking essay, just a post for me to explore my thoughts about this show now that it's finally ended. and idk to those who bothered to watch this last season what are y'all's thoughts??? lol

idk about anyone else but for me /personally/ assigning any of the wof dragon tribes a single equivalent human culture or accent feels kind of weird or off. Unless you’re like. Specifically from that culture and know what you’re interpreting
like sure the ‘nightwings are British because they’re voiced that way in the audiobooks’ is funny at first but I once saw a post break down the accents by tribe and assign sandwings a Nigerian accent. Which IMMEDIATELY makes the fact that they’re commonly rogues and thieves in the story not a fun cowboy thing but a vaguely racist thing suggesting that all Nigerian people scam and steal, which. Given the ‘Nigerian prince’ thing is already a stereotype, well…-
and it definitely isn’t JUST that, I’m not trying to call a single person out. But these kind of 1-1 correlations lead to results like this 9/10 times and it just feels strange. Just mix stuff together. Mash ideas from different places into one. Don’t make the dragons a 1-1 parallel to a specific human culture because then any story you tell that may connect to a stereotype of that culture will come off really, really bad
#Instead of they have ___ accent#Say. Well their accent is closest to like this one with a hint of this one. And it varies throughout the regions of the kingdom#Because that is not saying something about a specific ‘kind’ of person. It’s just taking your favorite ideas and playing with them#This is specifically why everything in righteous pines has like 2 religions and then random other cultural factors thrown in#+ the source material and stuff I just made up for me that isn’t from ANY culture#Because I am NOT gonna get caught stereotyping a specific group and be seen as spreading hate#wings of fire#also I don’t mean like. If you’re specifically from a culture and paying informed homage to your heritage#I mean just. Like. White teenagers picking random races based on general regions for the tribes#Like I probably would’ve done when I was 12-14. Like a fool#anyway this isn’t really an angry post at all it’s just kind of a vague opinion#I’m not genuinely mad at anyone who does this I’m just like. Wary for them. Like#Look out girl you’re gonna get cancelled you need to be more CAREFUL#Because I’m 90% sure most people don’t MEAN it to be racist. It’s just. Internalized ideas or general assumptions or something. Uninformed.#But you cannot be uninformed or you will get got. Inform yourselves folks!!! Play safe!! With many mixed ideas!#lion’s lair#invalid white persons opinion by the way. I’m downright vampiric so you can entirely disregard this post if that affects its meaning#My icks literally do not matter in this situation. I know that. I’m just ATTEMPTING to read the room#And not hurt anybody#👍?

DuckTales (2017) series reaction
I never thought I’d be so entertained by the adventures of hyperactive ducks, but it turned out to be really enjoyable!
Tumblr media
I never really conceptualized Disney’s mainstay characters (Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.) as real characters. They mostly seemed like mascots used in the Disney parks and merchandise, or stock characters that could be slipped into any kind of story. I didn’t see any continuity between different works featuring them, or know of any official canon timeline. The thing that usually draws me into a story is the characters’ development and relationships, so Donald Duck and his family didn’t hold much interest for me.
That was until YouTube made me aware of some of the characters and events in the DuckTales reboot. I learned some spoilers that intrigued me, and then did what I often do with shows that have finished their run: watch clips and sample episodes about the characters I’m interested in. But I realized that there had been a lot of buildup to what I watched, and I’d have to go back to the beginning to fully understand the story. So a few weeks ago, I watched the first episode of the old series to get a little foundation, then dove into the reboot. I watched the series finale tonight.
This show had a lot of things I love to see in stories: interactions between characters of multiple generations; parents and children learning to work together; long-lost or separated family members finding their way back to each other; and charming recurring characters. The structure was excellent, with plotlines and character arcs that carry through each season, and over the course of the whole show.
The voice cast is fantastic, for major and minor characters alike. Nearly every episode prompted me to look up the voice actors and figure out where I’d heard them before. It also reminded me of many other cartoons I’ve enjoyed, including Kim Possible, Steven Universe, Carmen Sandiego, and Voltron: Legendary Defender. A few episodes are clearly inspired by classic movies, such as Jaws and The Martian. And the more I research the show, the clearer it is that the writers love the source material and pay homage to it while building their own story.
I’ve never seen another Disney work where Donald and his family are fleshed out as characters with complex personalities and compelling arcs. The triplets Huey, Dewey, and Louie have different strengths and interests, and a pretty realistic sibling dynamic, instead of being basically the same person in triplicate. My favorite characters were Della Duck, Goldie O’Gilt, and Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera (voiced by Lin-Manuel Miranda!). But, I probably relate most to Huey’s eldest-sibling mentality and thirst for knowledge, and Webby’s enthusiasm and tendency toward obsession in hobbies.
The creed that “Family is the greatest adventure of all” was a little heavy-handed, but that does not make it any less true. Even though most of the characters are related, there is also a strong theme of found family.” And another theme emerged through multiple characters’ arcs: embracing the unknown with courage and solidarity. That is something we all need now.
In short: DuckTales is one of those reboots that honors the past but also grows beyond its predecessor to tell a new and enjoyable story for both old and new fans.
“Face each new sun with eyes clear and true Unafraid of the unknown, because I’ll face it all with you.”

embrace more silliness.
yes, this post is lowkey about trop, but in general i've been reflecting on the way i "cringe" a lot more than i used to, even at things i used to genuinely love. i mean, one of my favorite traits and therefore one of my favorite words used to be "earnest," but now, even if i don't mean to, i find myself observing moments of genuine vulnerability, connection, or plain stupid fun and pointing them out mentally as kind of uncool. "that was low-hanging, that was silly, that was unsophisticated, inelegant, obvious, sentimental." even when i try to go into things with the best of intentions, the instinct is there; i flag the moment, i'm taken out of the scene - and yes, i think about "ah, this is a line certain other people will hear and call dumb."
i've noticed that even people who like trop feel the need to say it kind of behind the cover of their hand: "it's a silly show, but—" "it's unserious" "i know it's fanfic" "i'm aware that it's cheesy" "i know the general consensus is—" and, idk, but i find it kind of sad. i think a lot of us have internalized cynicism. it's hard for me to untangle because i want to retain my critical thinking, i want to go beyond the surface, notice little details, evaluate the storytelling, but sometimes that feeling of something being "off" isn't actually "this is bad," it's "this made me uncomfortable." this line was too sincere, the plot device was too simple or felt too contrived (an aspect of the source material's storytelling, if we're being honest, but frowned upon ~now that we know better~ and have gotten used to realism). delight is met with suspicion, laughter curbed by an urge to roll the eyes. there was a desire for nostalgia once, and then we all decided that unoriginality is a crime (both moral and commercial), and that homage must be lazy plagiarism.
it's exhausting! i miss laughing at the joke, taking creative choices at their face value, being utterly unaware of whether or not i'm "meant" to have a certain opinion. there's something about middle-earth in particular that makes the cognitive dissonance impossible to ignore because, as a world, i don't think it was built with an ounce of bad faith or cynicism or self-deprecation, and yet i bring it with me. i'm almost certain i'm not the only one.
so that's why i'm saying "embrace more silliness." sometimes you'll feel the call to engage with a story in a straightforward, sensory way. maybe it doesn't make sense all the time, but something about it feels right. that feeling should be enough. if i think back, that feeling used to be enough, and it used to be everywhere, easier to find, easier to access without defensiveness or intrusive logic. i miss sentimentality. sincerity. even cheesiness, which is often vulnerability. i miss the ease with which i used to hold space for all of those things.
so i'm challenging myself, and anyone else, to tap into a previous update, or at least to be more mindful of the ways we might be resisting joy, delight, connection, wonder... i think tolkien's world is a good, safe place to try it out.

I can’t believe people would use a being that is a homage to the late Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, as uwu-waifu bullshit.
So disrespectful.
I see where you're coming from, though I don't think that the way you are going about it is constructive or appropiate at all. Since you're on anon I can't say for sure if you're like 10 or 30, but I'm not mad either way.
So yeah I wanna give an honest answer to this, if anyone else feels the same way and maybe wants to have a discussion (though the whole anon thing feels like talking to a wall) you can really just talk to me. Ngl I am incredibly emotional and quick to get defensive, but the beauty of messages on the internet is is that I can give myself time to calm down and be rational and process these emotions before I respond. So Anon I hope that once you've hopefully seen my response that if you still feel a certain type of way about it that you can maybe give me the same courtesy. I just think that there's enough hate to hate communication on the internet already and I'd honestly truly appreciate the effort.
To start of I think it's ignorant to say that how I choose to enjoy my favourite media is ''uwuw-waifu bullshit''. People enjoy different things in many different ways. The way I do it is no different from D&D. There is a world with lore and characters that i adore and I love it so much that I want to experience it through something I've made. Making a character for a franchise is connected to so much research on the source material, as careful as it was crafted I take the time to think of many different ways to integrate a whole new person that hypothetically could fit like a DLC or you know, my player character (sometime it is more indepth than other times, but I always do research one way or the other).
Being put into Links shoes is a predetermined lens which i can enjoy as it's own story, but to me, I like to be a part of it either with a straight insert or an otherwise character of my own making. A tale of legend and heroic deeds is but one perspective and I love to see in what different ways this story or world can be enjoyed and looked at. And i don't think that this is wrong or something to look down upon. Just as is romance within that world and other bonds and relationships one will create and connect to their creation. Like how I made the windfish my OC's Father.
It is so much more than you make it out to be and I have had so many people throuought my art journey come to me and grief because they were bullied for simply having an oc be romantic with a canon character or god forbid a selfinsert or mary sue (and most of them were children, though I was more sad about the adults who's passion was taken from them before they could fully explore it). It is makebelief and hurts no one just because these people decided to share these scenarios with other people. I hope that in the future you can be less dismissive about that. I think it's important that we take the time to be kind, even if there's something we might disagree with and want to debate.
Now to the main point. To put it simply I think a character is allowed to be it's own entity regardless of intent, if ofcourse the intent isn't explicitly stated. (Like for example when they literally have Barack obama as a character in South park etc. Then that's not a refrence but a depicition) Which in this case it isn't actually. While researching what came up was filled with ''maybe'', ''possibly'', ''probably'' etc. More importantly though the game itself never states it and a game and franchise should always be able to be judged on it's contents alone wihtout outside remarks people may or may not have made.
Then there's also another character within the game. Botrick. His wiki also eludes to the fact that he might be a homage to Satoru. Wikis however are all written by fans and we can all just speculate even if the probability is very likely. The difference however is that Botrick shares a similar appearance with Satoru while the lord of the mountain has a similar name and I think both are tributes in their own right. Though Botrick may be a physical reference while Satori is a sort of spiritual tribute to him as a mentor and guardian figure. But it's still it's own character. Both of these characters aren't Satoru, the same as how actors aren't synonymous with the characters they play.
Also what if someone doesn't do deep dives into wikis and articles and forums? What if someone simply plays the game, enjoys it and make characters, contents AU's for it? What if had only read the genral wiki and not scrolled down to the trivia section where people first brought up it might be a tribute? I don't think that it should be neccessary to first get a bachelors degree in order to enjoy a game in fear of missing a detail that although never mentioned in the game was once maybe hinted at by someone. It feels like a roundabout and tiring way to enjoy a medium. And you should give people a fair chance and not come at them so aggressively, even if you're emotionally charged.
Having said all that, I was actually hesitant to make this idea I had using Satori for the same reason haha. Since I generally don't like characters that are meant to be real life people ( the same I don't like to ship with characters that are in canon relationships (hence i dropped Sidon UU ). With Satori however I felt it's removed enough that it's not an issue for me as explained above.
But I'm not opposed to the idea of changing a few things up! Names are changed in the blink of an eye and i am not uncreative enough to be incabalbe of thinking of different ways to incorporate my design into the lore. I could make it a blupee instead, or a descendant, or otherwise further removed entity with close ties to Satori. (My OC Dreem was close to being something like that before I thought of the windfish!) I simply adore these nature god archetypes like the forest god in princess mononoke and since in it's lore Satori was a sage before that died the idea of a humanoid version wasn't too far off for me.
So yeah, tell me what you think, I'm open for discussion and how other people see it as long as you give me the same courtesy and time that I did to formulate an appropiate response! I hope that we can all be kind to eachother and I wish you all a wonderful day!

I sent this ask before and maybe Tumblr ate it, or you missed it, or you did see it and just didn’t want to answer it (in which case sorry for sending it again) or lots of other things, but just in case it was one of the first few I am sending it again haha
I (fledgling Dick Grayson fan, indoctrinated by your posts) think that you (veteran Dick Grayson fan) would enjoy the fic “birdsong” by ScarlettSwordMoon on AO3. The summary is as follows:
After getting a face full of Scarecrow’s newest toxin, Dick isn’t haunted by his typical nightmares. No. This one has little green pixie boots. AKA Batman: Ego but make it Robin.
It’s a very good fic looking into Dick’s relationship with Robin as a concept as well as his siblings’ versions of the hero. I’m not super familiar with the comics, but it felt like a good homage to Robin through the ages. Plus it has a nice Dick & Bruce moment at the end!
Hi! It's entirely possible that it's somewhere in my rat's nest of an inbox (half my fault, half not my fault, that it's such a mess 😂) but I'm always up for fic recs! Sometimes it does take me a bit to respond, because I have literally almost a thousand fics on my reader that I'm making my way through and I like to try to read the fic before responding, but it's never because I'm not interested! But also *rubs hands gleefully* there is no better way to brighten my day than to tell me I've been helping to indoctrinate you into becoming interested in being a Dick Grayson fan, look, I recognize that I am super biased, that he's my Blorbo to the max, I am not at all objective about my fave, and possibly even super annoying about him, but I will also help showcase fun comics and great fic and great art, so I think the trade-off is worth it. ;) Listen, I just really love these characters and I know comics can be kind of intimidating to get into because there's so many of them and they're not the softer versions you'll often find in fic and some of the case parts of the stories can get kind of boring, but I do genuinely think they're worth it! You're allowed to pick and choose what you want to read, you don't have to read everything, you can skim something that's boring you, you can drop in and out of wherever you want, you will learn how to navigate them pretty quickly once you've started reading them, and there are always tons of fans who are happy to suggest recs for good starting places! And, yeah, you can totally read fic without having read much of the source material, many of us have fandoms where we do that! But there have been so many times where, having read the issues something is based off of has enhanced my experience in the fic, so I want to encourage you guys to read more with me, it makes the fic that hits you just right all the more satisfying. Thank you for the rec and I have put it on my reader! <3

Family reunion
Part 2, maybe obsessing over a grandma is unhealthy?
Fighting came easy.
Punch, duck, grab, punch again, pull hair, kick, spit, bite.
So easy. Routine, even.
Fighting has made up the better part of Dahlia Mels' life.
Dahlia is strong, cold, calculated. Dahlia Mel was one of the most skilled people with a gun, able to keep track of multiple moving targets, in the dark, in the cold, anywhere and in any condition. She was a merciless mercenary, given the name "Artemis" for her unmatched proficiency with a bow.
Yes, a bow. Hard to maintain, even harder to maintain arrows. Hers was such a unique creation, given the name "Lillith", an homage to the young girl who decided to learn it in the first place, the girl she used to be. The entire bow, string included, was surdy. It wouldn't snap even if she tried to bash someone's skull in. The string itself was sharper than most knives, frequently cutting her fingers, arm and cheek whenever she got careless with it. The bow was made so it had two small slots at the top and bottom. It looked like tasteless decoration for a deadly weapon, but they were compartments for knives.
It was black in colour, and made little to no noise. The arrows were a matching black, made of an easily sourced material. Sometimes, should she be too careless, they'd make a whistling sound when they cut through the air.
She brought it with her to Pandora. There, she was just Artemis. Killer, sharp shooter, Goddess of the Hunt.
She didn't expect to be Lily. Or Lils. Or bumblebee. She didn't expect to be her again.
Tommy was a surprise. A pleasant one, all things considered. She thought she was the last Sully, the only survivor of the Sully Massacre. And she was, Jake was off-planet and Tommy died before it happened. But she had him now, as big and blue as he was. He's being taken away for testing, and probably some real clothes. That left her to try slipping back into Artemis alone in a hallway before she greeted the squad.
Metal doors slid open. The room beyond was decent, giant glass windows covering the wall opposite to her. There were benches and shelves built into the walls, the floor a cold concrete. Several heads turned to her as she entered. Off the top of her head, she could name all of them; Hummingbird, Loki, Flare, Obake.
5 people is kind of small for a squad; but whatever. Hummingbird is a small thing, all soft edges and dyed blue hair paired with equally blue eyes. Loki was a simple guy, blonde hair (with the roots going brown) and brown eyes, 5'7 ft. Flare, an astounding 5'11, was a woman with burns covering her body, with grey eyes and bouncy orange curls. Obake was teeny, maybe 5 ft if she's being generous, with poofy black locks of hair.
A decent team, save for one fact: they all work alone.
But like her, the offer was too enticing. More money than you'd ever need, a ready built house on humanity's new home. Security, certainty, 2 things you'd never have on earth.
She was just in it for the money. She'd never call this dumpheap home.
She nodded at them, they nodded at her. No one spoke for a while, until the soldiers walked in, accompanied by a woman, Ardmore. Their new boss for the next 10 years. "Mercs, welcome. This'll be home sweet home for a while, so get comfortable." She said, easily taking command of the room. She didn't flinch as 5 of the most dangerous people alive locked eyes on her, but then again, she is paying them. "You have 2 simple missions; keep the researchers alive. You'll be in hostile territory more often than not, so you'll have to be alert at all times. Your second is stamping out hostiles, keeping the Na'vi rebellion away from construction and supply lines."
It seemed like a big job for 5 people. But they're 5 of the most capable people out there.
"You're out on your first mission tomorrow, 0500 sharp. Dismissed." She says, before gesturing towards Dahlia, "You, with me." She dutifully followed the woman out of the room, soldiers making their way to their posts. When they're alone in some room overlooking the wild jungle called Pandora, they speak. "You've been assigned a personal mission: capture Jake Sully and his brood by any means." She nods. She knew this, going in. "We believe that, thanks to Sullys' obvious…paternal instincts, you'll have the best chance at capturing him." She explains as she approaches the window. She follows suit, placing a hand on the glass.
The view is vast and green. Endless, even. The sky is filled with over a million stars, like what they said the night sky looked like on earth, before the pollution. They said it was even dark blue rather than black, once. They said it's beauty was unmatched. Even the forests remind her of what her home once was, green and lively and living. Bustling with animals, with coarse dirt and smooth leaves. They said it's beauty was unmatched, also. But standing here, looking at Pandora…
She has to agree.
Her father is out there, somewhere. Her father and his wife and children and village and people. He risks his life daily for them by attacking supply lines and mines, he makes sure they all return home safely. He's doing well as Olo'eyktan. As a husband. As a father. He's doing so much better here than back home, where he lived in filth and poverty, with 2 children he was struggling to feed, with legs that didn't work and a society that didn't want nor need him. It's so much better here, she can see why he left. Nothing on earth worth sticking around for when you can have all this.
No, absolutely nothing worth staying for, or saying goodbye to, or trying to protect–
Her entire body is on fire. She can see her own intestines through the cut on her stomach. Her little hands are doing the best they can to keep it all inside, but she's 12 years old and burning and bleeding and broken and bruised and running scared. She didn't look behind her as her home burned, the squeezing lungs and aching pains kept her mind from straying. She hears nothing behind her, no one is following her, but she can't stop running. You never know, they could catch up, they could find her, they could finish the job–, she has to keep running, running, running, don't think, just keep running–
She swallows. "I'll deliver him when I can."
____
They share a living space, which is fine. They've been around each other before, they can do it for 10 years. Nevermind that they start pulling knives the second they're startled, and that most of them have pretty silent footsteps. She sighs as she leans on the wall of her own room. It's huge compared to back home. Her apartment could fit in here.
It's all grey, the only colour comes from the navy blue bed sheets. She runs a hand across the surface of the mattress, so much softer than anything she owned back home. She pushed down, the mattress barely gave way under her hand.
There was a knock at her door. She's reaching for a pen that was on the desk next to her bed and brandishing it as a weapon before she even registers it. Behind her, right at her door, Obake stands with their hands held up in surrender.
"Oh." She says, putting her hand down but still clutching the pen, "You're quiet. What do you want?"
Obake keeps their face pretty blank. Now that they're in a one on one situation, I'll take the time to tell you what they look like. Their skin borders on translucent, eyes wide and glassy like they've been crying, coloured a weak, watery blue. They've got chewed fingernails and scratch marks on their arms–, she gets the feeling that they have some bad nervous habits. Their hair is black and messy, cut above the shoulders. They resemble an unruly child more than an experienced killer.
'We're going over target info,' they signed, 'We're supposed to get rid of all the clan leaders, so they're giving us more info on them.'
And that's how she ended up knee deep in a bunch of papers. High value targets, wanted dead or alive. Mo'at, tsahik of the Omaticaya clan, Ateyo, tsahik of the Tsawke Sreu clan, Olo'eyktans, tskarems, people who have any kind of authority. She keeps her eyes trained on Mo'ats papers.
Tsahik of the Omaticaya, mother of Neytiri, mate of Jake Suli. Not much is known about her, just her age, height and weight. Her mate was killed during the attack on hometree, a shame, really. She'd have loved to tear his heart out herself, but alas.
Holding up the paper with her information to the others, she spoke; "I'm calling dibs." This was immediately met with retaliation.
"Hey, no dibs!" Insisted Flare, who already called dibs on 3 of their targets. She gave her a flat look. "it wouldn't make sense to call dibs," Hummingbird reasoned, "It's not practical." This obviously didn't matter to them. They've got 10 years to do this.
___
Mo'at paused, her hands stilling while she was braiding Kiri's hair. She looked back at her grandmother curiously. "Grandmother?" She asked, "Is everything ok?"
Mo'at stayed silent for a moment. No, nothing felt okay. Strangely, she felt like she was being watched, not by any Na'vi or animal, not like she was tsahik. She was being watched as though she was prey, like a starving palulukan had caught her in its crosshairs. She bit back a shiver.
"I feel fine, do not worry." She says finally, resuming her braiding. The girl didn't look convinced in the slightest.
___
"--and why do you even want to call dibs on her?" Artemis asks sternly, but Flare isn't one to back down. "For the same reason you want to call dibs!" She insists, and Artemis has to resist scowling at her because there's no way she's after Mo'at for the same reason she is. No way.
The others are all sitting around, just looking at them. Obake is not confrontational, Loki enjoys chaos and Hummingbird has given up on trying to mediate this.
"You're most certainly not." She says, arms crossed. Loki chimes in, his voice carrying faux innocence, "But how do you know if you won't say why you want Mo'at?" She does nothing but glare at him.
"Because–,"
___
"Ma Jake," Neytiri says, looking over her shoulder at her mate as she coats her arrows in poison, "What is wrong?" She asks, almost insisting. Jake has been acting strange these past few hours, unsettled almost.
"Nothing, Ma Yawne." He says, walking over and pressing a kiss to her forehead. She looks up at him, not believing him. He grimaces. "Just…worried about this raid." He admits, shoulders relaxing. "Everything will be okay." She says, standing up and placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. He feels guilty as he wraps his large arms around her waist, digging his face into the crook of her neck and inhaling her earthy scent.
_____
"---Okay, no one's calling any dibs! Can we settle on that?" Hummingbird says as she stands between her and Flare. Artemis has her arms crossed over her chest as she and Flare glare at each other.
"Fine." They both agree. They're going over everything, places they're most often spotted, people close to them. Those with higher statuses are to be assassinated with the utmost discretion.
Then they're all back in their rooms. She takes note of her weaponry in the same way she knows everyone else is. Her arrows were duplicated by the RDA almost perfectly, even the poison tipped ones. The RDA didn't know how Na'vi bodies would react to human poisons, so tomorrow will certainly be a field test.
There's a knock at her door.
She looks up, unsurprised to see Flare.  She's not really looking at her, eyes on the ground. She gestures for her to come in, placing her arrows on the table. Flare comes in, her hand on the others waist as she buries herself in the crook of Artemis' neck.
"What do you want?" She asked pointedly. The other barely groused. "Hnnhnnnhh." She slurred unintelligibly, making Artemis roll her eyes. "Use your words, Flare." The other pouted like a child. "Sleep with me?" She asked.
That's how they ended up under the covers together. It also just occurred to Artemis that she meant sleep next to her and not with her. It makes the fact that she's only in her underwear while Flare is in the RDA issued pyjamas a little awkward. Whoops.
_____
Kiri stood at the base of the spirit tree. She stood amongst its mighty roots, beneath the branches and leaves that stretched across the sky. Neteyam, ever the dutiful brother, accompanied her on this trip. She wasn't sure of why Lo'ak tagged along though. Perhaps fulfilling his duty of being annoying, she thought as he held Tuk up, spinning her around as fast as he could, getting them both dizzy, and falling flat on his face. Well, he is certainly entertaining.
"Why did we come here so late?" Lo'ak whined as he attempted to stand on his feet. Kiri turned to face him, arms crossed over her chest. "To speak with Eywa. Dad has been acting weird, and I know she will know why." She answers. She knows her siblings have noticed it too, the shuddering, the far off looks, reaching for someone and being surprised when he reaches them.
Without another word, her siblings join her in connecting with Eywa.
The first thing she sees are blinding lights. Green, red, blue, pink, and a thousand different colours. They are not like the gentle glow of Pandora, no, these are harsh, burning her eyes so badly she has to squeeze them shut. She feels hands on her shoulders, warmer and realer than what Eywa gives her. She turns, opens her eyes and sees her brothers and sister. They look at each other, silently agreeing that this is strange and unusual. They've never heard of Eywa showing Na'vi the same thing at the same time, letting them share visions.
With a renewed sense of bravery, she moves forwards. The ground beneath her is hard and cold, littered with broken glass and cigarette butts that she can't feel hurting her. All around her, buildings of grey stone brushed against the sky. Mould had collected on the walls, the glass of the windows that didn't look like they could open was covered in smudges and red smears. It was quiet, still, unnaturally so. She could hear a needle drop on the opposite end of the path. Most unnerving was the sky. It was inky black as it hung over their heads, not a single star in sight. The moon looked so small and tiny here, covered by a sort of black fog.
One thing was apparent: this could not be Pandora.
….
So this was earth? Their father's home planet? She felt a chill run down her spine. Her father grew up here? Here? Not even the darkest caves or the driest desert of Pandora was so desolate. Nothing could thrive here, absolutely nothing. How could you live without knowing the dirt beneath you? Without the stars above you? Without the music of Eywa to grace you?
She wanted to leave. Yes, yes; she has to get out of here. Here, where the shadows had swallowed up the light whole, where not even the howling wind made a sound. This place was wrong, so very wrong. Why did Eywa show her this? What was she supposed to See?
Her answer came in the shape of a little human girl. She couldn't quite make out her details as she walked past, but she could note down a few features. Dark hair, almost black, was tied into 2 little pigtails on either side of her head. Her skin was pink, like her fathers. She had a large black shirt with some kind of design on top, paired with baggy pants. She walked barefoot over the cigarettes and glass, leaving behind small stains of blood.
Without thinking, she calls out for her. The girl whips her head around, and she can see her face. All she could see was a pair of glasses on her face, a small scar running over her pink lips and a little nose. She turned away quickly, continuing down her path. Kiri, joined by her siblings, walked after her. The girl broke out into a sprint, running into the narrow walkway between 2 buildings. Kiri hesitated, which allowed Lo'ak to move in front of her, walking into the shadows and being swallowed up whole by them.
They followed after him quickly, Tuk taking hold of her hand and pressing into her side as they walked. Neteyam keeps close to her, eyeing the shadows suspiciously. She kept her eyes forwards, noting the grittiness of the ground and cracks in the stone. Turning her attention to her boneheaded brother, she noted he had switched to chasing after the girl. Eywa, help her.
They followed for what seemed like forever. The halls--alley, her mind supplied, twisted and turned, like they were actually travelling down a living path that intended to keep them, stretching and twisting its neck to form an incoherent path. Everywhere they turned, it was all the same, an endless sea of grey and shadows. The alley, despite their size, seemed to tower over them, squeezing them. It was like that animal that Norm told her about once, a boa constrictor. A creature winding itself around you so tightly until you inevitably popped. In the videos, it always looked like there was such little effort needed on the snakes part.
It was probably hours until Lo'ak caught the girl. She let out a loud yelp, as if she'd been hurt. Her brother immediately loosened his grip, but still kept firm as the little thing thrashed in his hold. "Mawey, Mawey,"  He says, bending down on his knee, "I won't hurt you, calm down." The child kept her head down, face obscured by the hair in front of her face. "Who are you? Where are we?" He asks, and she offers no answer.
"Maybe give her some space?" Neteyam offers from beside her. She can see Tuk watching her, fascinated by the creature before her. Tuk's never seen a human child, and their tiny stature surprises her. When she hears tales of demons, even when they tell her of how small they were, she always imagines big and imposing figures. This little thing in front of her wouldn't survive a day in the mountains.
"Are you hurting her?" She asks, and Lo'ak immediately denies.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong? Why are you scared?" Neteyam asks gently, as though he was not a 7 feet tall blue alien. She hesitated, walking next to her brother and lowering herself too, offering her blue hand to the demon. The tawtute hesitated, placing her pink little hand in hers. She looked up at her and her siblings, and Kiri didn't manage to hold back her gasp.
The demons' face was like no others she'd ever seen. Her features, her details, they were blurry and ever changing, like she was looking at a video from one of the broken cameras near Hells gate. She couldn't make out anything besides the blue colour of her eyes.
They stayed there for a moment, before Eywa brought them back. They looked at each other, wondering what the hell and who the hell that was. Why did Eywa show them a human girl on earth? Where could she have…..
They all had the same thought at once: Dad.

Note
I tried to be open minded about the show but I just can’t. Like I was enjoying the animation, then the girl who got murdered in the first scene was used to fill out a small crowd and I was like… this is kind of lazy. Absolutely none of the jokes have been funny. Some don’t even seem like jokes, just two unrelated thoughts smashed together in a way they’re hoping is funny. the only moment that kind of struck joy was when Fred’s dad spoke and I was like, hey that’s Fred og voice actor isn’t it? Cool.
The whole “Velma has ghastly mystery induced hallucinations” is an interesting angle bc I think it justified her sometimes ridiculous skepticism in other iterations. I do think my main problem is it’s trying to deconstruct popular character tropes by forcing existing characters into tropes they’ve never really fit.
Like it works better for a show like riverdale bc the Archie comics characters are relatively one note and just adapt to whatever situation they’re in. Velma is a high school setting prequel for characters who are already teenagers in the source so of course people are questioning why things are so different, and every scooby adaptation for 50 years has developed them into characters people are attached to. It’s like, two years tops before these kids are living in a van with each other and a fully grown Great Dane.
I kind of think an edgy scooby doo show should go the opposite way. They’re all like 40, scooby isn’t around anymore, they’re washed up and directionless because being a teen detective is cute but not a career choice. The live action scooby doo movie already kind of explored the gang breaking up as grownups though and can’t possibly be beaten, so instead there’s another scooby doo prequel but this time the characters are intentionally grating and the humor simply doesn’t work. And there’s no scooby doo
You raise some very good points! And I concur with a lot of what you’re saying!
I agree, a good deal of the humor and dialogue doesn’t land, or feels overly embellished. At best, it’s pretty meh.
Frankly, I completely understand why diehard fans of previous scooby doo versions wouldn’t enjoy it; there’s a lot of change that’s been done to the characters and world you’ve already come to love, so it makes sense why VELMA’s more sardonic and satirical nature might be off-putting or difficult to stand. (I get it!! I’m a huge TMNT fan, but I personally just can’t enjoy ROTTMNT because of how fundamentally different it is from what I grew up with, and I feel a similar way about the current Monster High generation!)
(also yes!! The og va for Fred playing Fred’s dad was indeed a cool little Easter egg! not sure if you managed to get that far, but Norville’s dad’s appearance was also included as homage to Shaggy’s original character design, which I thought was pretty fun!)
You gave it a shot, and you didn’t like it! That’s completely fair! I admire the fact that you were willing to try it, though!!
But I hear what you’re saying in terms of the show being a prequel, and I think the only answer I really have is that, for as much of it is rooted in the past of Scooby Doo canon, the show itself is its own work, and it’s probably going to make a lot of choices that conflict with past iterations. I feel Scooby’s lack of presence is a pretty fair indicator of that; it’s not the gang we’re used to, and it may well be that the gang we end up with when the season/series wraps won’t be concurrent with the mystery inc we all currently know and love.
But I think that’s mostly because I don’t think VELMA is meant to be a prequel of any iteration in particular, you know? like the show is telling the origin story of ITS Velma Dinkley and ITS mystery incorporated, not the origin story of every version of Velma & Mystery Inc. ever. It draws heavy inspiration from its source material, but a lot of the broad strokes are likely to be pretty unfamiliar!
As for the idea of an older and washed up edgy mystery inc, I think that that could make for a HILARIOUS punchy animated short, but the idea of it as the premise for an on-going comedic series sounds a bit depressing. I don’t know! I feel like there’s at least a little bit of a safety net in knowing that this is an origin story; we know they ultimately end up happier and closer to one another than where they initially began!
Thank you for the ask, anon; I really appreciate it!
(Also, do you happen to know which scene the dead girl’s character model gets used in to fill out a crowd? I’m just curious to see if I can spot it for myself!)

Exploring Traditional Brewing Techniques in a Modern Microbrewery
Introduction
Microbreweries have surged in reputation, providing precise and flavorful craft beers that stand proud of heavily produced alternatives. These microbreweries near me regularly combine traditional brewing techniques with contemporary innovation to create specific brews. Understanding how those traditional strategies are included into nowadays’s brewing tactics offers insight into the artistry at the back of each pint. This article explores the history, techniques, and future of traditional brewing in the context of a present-day craft brewery. By delving into those factors, readers will recognize the craftsmanship involved in growing high-quality beers.
The History of Brewing
Brewing has a wealthy record courting returned thousands of years, with historical civilizations developing early brewing techniques. Over time, these techniques have evolved, but the middle ideas continue to be unchanged. Traditional brewing strategies have been handed down via generations, maintaining the essence of what makes craft beers unique. By knowing the ancient context, current brewers pay homage to these age-antique practices even as adapting them to modern needs. The significance of traditional strategies lies in their ability to impart depth and complexity to the brews produced using any Brewing Company.
Key Traditional Brewing Techniques
Tumblr media
The Role of Ingredients
Traditional brewing closely is based on 4 number one substances: water, malt, hops, and yeast. The best and sourcing of those ingredients appreciably effect the final product. Many microbreweries close to me emphasize using neighborhood and organic elements to enhance the taste and authenticity of their craft beers. Water’s mineral content material, the style of malt, the kind of hops, and the stress of yeast all play essential roles in figuring out the beer’s flavor profile. By that specialize in terrific elements, brewers can create remarkable beers that reflect their dedication to the craft.
Adapting Traditional Techniques in Modern Microbreweries
Modern microbreweries integrate conventional strategies while embracing innovation to fulfill modern tastes. For instance, whilst the basic technique of malting and mashing stays, superior system and specific temperature controls ensure consistency and quality. Brewers also experiment with new hop types and yeast strains, mixing subculture with creativity. This stability of antique and new allows a craft brewery to supply specific and varied brews. Examples of this integration can be seen inside the diverse offerings of many microbreweries close to me, where traditional strategies are given a modern twist.
Challenges and Benefits
Incorporating traditional brewing methods into modern settings gives both challenges and benefits. One undertaking is the time and labor-intensive nature of these strategies, which may be extra demanding than contemporary shortcuts. However, the benefits encompass remarkable flavor, authenticity, and a deep connection to brewing heritage. Consumers increasingly recognize the effort and craftsmanship that pass into conventional craft beers. This appreciation is clear within the success of many Brewing Company ventures that prioritize those time-commemorated methods. The result is a loyal patron base that values high-quality and way of life.
Case Studies of Successful Microbreweries
Several microbreweries have successfully mixed traditional brewing techniques with modern practices. For instance, breweries like Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada are famend for their progressive but conventional approaches. These breweries have constructed their reputations at the cautious balance of respecting subculture while pushing barriers. Their achievement memories spotlight the viability and attraction of this method. Studying those examples offers valuable instructions for any craft brewery trying to thrive in these days’s aggressive marketplace. Their particular procedures function blueprints for mixing the antique with the brand new.
Future of Traditional Brewing in Modern Microbreweries
The destiny of conventional brewing strategies in modern-day microbreweries seems promising. As clients maintain to are looking for out genuine and remarkable craft beers, the demand for traditional methods will in all likelihood develop. Innovations in brewing era will similarly beautify the precision and efficiency of these strategies, making them greater available to smaller breweries. Trends together with sustainability and nearby sourcing will also have an effect on how traditional techniques are tailored. The continuing relevance of those strategies ensures that the art of brewing remains a dynamic and evolving subject inside the Brewing Company landscape.
Conclusion
In conclusion, traditional Free Wheel Breweries brewing strategies play an essential position in the success of present-day microbreweries. By mixing those time-venerated methods with contemporary improvements, brewers can create unique and flavorful craft beers that stand out in a crowded market. The demanding situations of maintaining these techniques are outweighed by using the advantages of authenticity and fine. As the brewing industry keeps evolving, the stability of tradition and innovation will continue to be key. Appreciating the craftsmanship behind every brew enriches the revel for each brewer and consumers, making sure the iconic legacy of traditional brewing is in a cutting-edge craft brewery.

[Happy Valentines Day, Everyone! 💘🦌 This started out as a shitpost about me needing an animatic of Alastor dancing alone in the nude through an empty Hotel and then somehow morphed into the pitch for my podcast idea. Yes it's long, no... I'm not sorry.]
Okay so, as a followup to this post, I just watched all of Saltburn (2023) last night, and ...
This film is literally so Alastor Coded I could write down an entire essays worth of parallels like I don't know why prudes insist on clutching their pearls and ruining everyone's fun?
Also, for all the pain that ...V*rbalA*e.... and the whole Poison Controversy TM have put us through despite never actually including any nudity or naughty bits in ether of those animations... I've decided that I'm just going to have to find a way to commission someone to animate the most professional, tasteful, artistic, homage/parody of Alastor actually doing Oliver's little victory dance at the end of Saltburn possible, wherein of course Al's nudity will be uncensored and full frontal, just as Oliver's is at end of the film.
That way, the transformation will be complete and the boys will truly have the "Same Character Energy" that the poor Prime Video Canada Employee boasted. 😈
Why am I even considering doing this? Because at this point I think it's the kind of consolation prize that all the patient girlies deserve and because if there weren't so many tacky snapback hats on sharkrobot and if some people didn't throw Angel under the bus so much, we could have a queer femme pleasure centered 18 to 21+ fanbase that was actually as good as the shows, if not better, at least in terms of adult fanservice, which I think should be the norm in an adult fandom space and we (queer/femme fans) wouldn't have so suffer as much just for wanting it like that?
But also, because I guess I'm just a chaotic neutral little troll who likes to stir the pot with my tail while cackling maniacally to piss people off. 😈🌹
And yes, I'm aware of how I just conjured up about fifty thousand different kinds of nightmares in some people's heads trying to parse out just how terrible this one scene from Saltburn I'm referring to is and how horrible the respective parody of it I just decided I'm going to try and make happen with Alastor for funsies, might be because I know that some people won't even bother to check out the source material that'll be pulling from because I know some of you just simply refuse watch anything that isn't a cartoon despite being in your 20s or older, and to those specific types of people I know might be reading this, all I have to say is, you're welcome. 😈
I'm actually 50% serious about trying to do this and I'm gonna try to shoot my shot with some animators and if I actually get a response from any of the people I already have in mind would be a good fit for this and they actually agree to do it, I might start asking for donations, in order to give you guys something in return, I might start a podcast.... I've thinking about turning all my Hazbin posts into something a little more than just blog posts for a very long time because I just feel like there's so much more talk about that I haven't really seen talked about from like, a queer feminine or even disabled perspective... And I was intending to save all my ideas so they could be turned into like, a huge "Retrospective" project that I was planning to begin doing after Hazbin and Helluva as a series were completely finished ... But now that watching Saltburn last night just sparked the idea to make what would have to be a completely monetized shitpost just by nature what this idea is... I don't know. Especially with the first season already be completed.... Would you guys support me hosting a completely queer femme run discussion podcast about these shows and the impact they've had as a kind of internet sub cultural phenomenon, from an insider/fans perspective? Because I've been waiting to hear a feminine queer person tackle just this subject for a while now, and so far nobody has, at least not in the way that I feel it needs or deserves to be. So I think I might as well be the the one to start doing that. And I think I might open up a poll ...
I do promise that the podcast idea I have in mind will be better put together than the hunicast, realistically speaking. I know if I do this I'm technically going starting out this podcast idea early for horny reasons, not to syke anyone out or put anyone down for being so. 🙏🩷👀
Before I start this poll, I just want to tell everyone that you can reblog this with your own feedback about my idea to start a podcast focusing on my opinions on Medrano's adult work, and follow me if your interested, and I would greatly appreciate that, since I notice that my posts are slowly getting my traction even as I'm typing this and I'm slowly gaining more followers and the post this is a followup to that I made yesterday keeps getting more likes even as I'm typing this ... L O L! 😂🙏❤️
But regardless of what happens I'd like to thank everyone and other than that I just wanna say ... Stay Tuned~! 😘❤️🌹 X.O

The Story of Ayam Gunting
Ayam Gunting, which literally translates to 'scissor-cut chicken', is a dish that has its roots deep in the street food traditions of Malaysia. It’s made from tender pieces of chicken, marinated in a blend of local spices and herbs, then deep-fried to golden perfection. The dish gets its name from the way it’s traditionally served - snipped into bite-sized pieces with scissors right before serving, ensuring freshness and a delightful crunch.
Harumi Kitchen's Signature Twist on Ayam Gunting
At Harumi Kitchen, we take pride in adding our unique touch to this classic dish. Our Ayam Gunting is not just about the taste; it's about the experience. We marinate our chicken using a secret blend of spices that includes hints of lemongrass, galangal, and a mix of aromatic herbs, paying homage to the traditional Malay flavors. Then, it’s coated in a special batter for that extra crunch and fried to a perfect crisp.
A Celebration of Malaysian Flavors
Ayam Gunting by Harumi Kitchen is more than just a dish; it’s a celebration of Malaysian flavors and textures. The crispy exterior, juicy interior, and the aromatic spices create a symphony of flavors in your mouth. It’s a dish that appeals to both locals and tourists alike, offering a taste of authentic Malaysian street food.
Health and Nutrition
Understanding the importance of balance in diet, our Ayam Gunting is prepared with the healthiest ingredients and cooking methods. We use only the freshest chicken and high-quality oil for frying, ensuring that each serving is not just delicious but also nutritious.
Perfect Pairings
To enhance the Ayam Gunting experience, we recommend pairing it with our homemade dipping sauces. Whether it’s the spicy sambal, the sweet and tangy plum sauce, or a classic soy-garlic sauce, these condiments add an extra layer of flavor to the dish. Accompanied by a refreshing drink, like iced lemon tea or a traditional Malaysian teh tarik, Ayam Gunting becomes an unforgettable meal.
Sustainability at Harumi Kitchen
At Harumi Kitchen, sustainability is key. We source our chicken and spices from local suppliers, supporting the community and ensuring the freshest ingredients. Our commitment to sustainability extends to our packaging, using eco-friendly materials that are kind to the environment.
