Besides decorating the hands, henna is a versatile substitute for temporary tattoos. The henna leaves are ground to powder form and then mixed with water to make a strong smelling paste. This paste is then applied on the hands or other parts where the ‘tattoo’ design is desired. After a few hours when the paste is finally dried, it can be washed off to reveal the desired pattern. Depending on the depth of the color and exposure to water, the henna design can last up to few weeks before fading away. One can still sport semi-permanent Indian tradition outside India, and serves as a perfect memorabilia on the India Tour Packages.

Redefining Legacy, The Ganjam Way
Ganjam has successfully straddled the heritage and modern worlds with ease. What is the unique recipe of getting the balance right?
Ganjam as a brand was established in the small town of Ganjam in Orissa in 1889, and prior to that it is believed that we were trading in exotic gems, diamonds and Kasturi (musk) during the reign of the Vijayanagar Empire (founded in the 14th century).
We started by creating South Indian-style closed set jewellery in diamonds and coloured gemstones. Thereafter, we had the privilege of being appointed by the Mysore Maharajah as the Royal Jewellers to the Court of Mysore. As the seat of power shifted from Mysore to Bangalore during the colonial times, we moved to Bangalore. The identity of Ganjam was built through this heritage. We became known for our exceptional work in the selection of diamonds, gemstones, and exemplary craftsmanship. Our Legacy style South Indian closed set diamond jewellery and our Heritage style South Indian jewellery set with cabochon rubies, emeralds and rose cut diamonds became synonymous with Ganjam.
Ganjam as a brand has always believed in evolving with the times. In the late ’60s and early ’70s we were one of the first jewellers to introduce ready-to-wear jewellery; in those days clients used to have access to only made-to-order pieces. We worked with gold, diamond and coloured gemstone jewellery which was considered modern at that time. All the while, we ensured that our tradition of Legacy and Heritage jewellery lines stayed alive and thrived.
We opened our store at Infantry Road in the late ’90s to herald a new era for us. Here we showcased 22-karat and 18-karat diamond, platinum, and gold jewellery. We realised that we had all the attributes to transition Ganjam into a complete in-house luxury brand.
How did you achieve that?
The first step was to convert all our diamonds to a minimum quality of ‘F’ VVS. We focused on producing all our jewellery in our crafting workshops and setting up a full-fledged design studio to create unique collections that would be identifiable with the design language of our brand. We housed jewellery lines which had a philosophy under which we designed various collections.
We started our boutiques to create a unique and personalised environment for our clients in which they could enjoy the shopping experience of our products. While we were on this journey to create new and interesting products in gold and platinum, our Chairman Eswar Ganjam continues his unrelenting work with our fifth generation 22-karat workshop to revive old designs, techniques and creating beautiful pieces both in Heritage and Legacy lines. To date, he along with his niece Radha Arun, personally work on the designs, selection of gemstones and diamonds, crafting with the craftsman and offering the product to discerning customers. We are fortunate to have his 60 years of knowledge alive in the company.
The 133-year-old brand has always been reverential towards age-old jewellery crafts of India. We’d like to know more about the mission of the brand in sustaining the arts and artisans.
Ganjam as a brand has always been fuelled by culture and the arts. Our own fifth-generation workshop stands testimony to that ethos. Our Chairman Eswar Ganjam has been personally instrumental in reviving, developing and mentoring designers and craftsmen in keeping this craft alive and thriving. Here we craft our lines true to the South Indian heritage. Over the years, we created an apprenticeship model so that the younger craftspeople can learn the skill from our master craftsmen.

What to Know Before Visiting Victoria and Albert Museum in London
Want to visit the world's largest museum of art? Then Victoria and Albert Museum in London is waiting for you! This ancient museum blends sculptures, ceramics and architecture with jewellery, fashion and even performances and theatre. It proudly showcases above 4.5 million artefacts spanning 5,000 years of history across almost 7 miles of galleries in various buildings. Founded in 1852 by Prince Albert, it was initially called the South Kensington Museum. Years later Queen Victoria named it what it's currently known as, and had meanwhile expanded it completely.
Wish to visit this treasure trove of art? Check the Delhi to London flight schedule and book the earliest flight. Before you go, here is what to know about the museum.
Special Tips
Remember that the museum is open from 10 am to 10 pm on Fridays and from 10 am to 5:45 pm on the other days. Entry is free!
Keep the camera flash off when you click pictures in the museum.
To skip crowds, visit on weekdays.
You can be a part of the Late Night Friday festivities by arriving as soon as you can. Joining is on a first-come, first-served basis.
You can buy chunky art books, amazing custom designed prints, stunning jewellery, and several other pocket-friendly trinkets from the museum shop.
Try the museum cafe, known for its deli-style dishes, various delicious salads, and a Victorian afternoon tea. Most of what you eat is affordable. You can even dine in the garden while enjoying nature. The lawn welcomes picnics.
Highlights of the Museum
The Jewellery Gallery: Spreading across 3 rooms, it flaunts 3,500 jewels belonging to the past 3,000 years. The Townshend Gems collection exhibits jaw-dropping gemstone rings in a hypnotizing spiral. Then there are Beyonce's giant butterfly ring and Queen Victoria's coronet to spellbind you.
Tipu's Tiger: Yes, Tipu means Tipu Sultan, the late 18th-century ruler of Mysore. The masterpiece shows a tiger attacking a European soldier, and refers to Tipu's bold resistance to the British East India Company before its 1799 victory. When you crank the handle on the beast, the soldier moans painfully. After your London to Delhi flight lands, tell everyone back home how India's history is respected everywhere!
Trajan's Column: It's perhaps the largest piece in the museum, divided into halves, 82-feet each. It's essentially a 19th-century plaster casting of the real column, built in 113 CE in Rome to commemorate the Dacian defeat by Trajan, the Roman Emperor. The column displays above 155 intricately carved war scenes in spirals.
Some other mention-worthy attractions include:
A cameo portrait of Elizabeth I (belonging to 1575-1580)
A 17th century Italian Ox’s Head sculpture
The oldest photograph of London (circa 1839)
The 1590s' Great Bed of Ware by Hans Vredeman de Vries (William Shakespeare mentioned this oak bed in Twelfth Night)
Elton John’s spectacles
A 1500s' unicorn tapestry (originating in Flanders)
A plaster cast of Michelangelo’s David
Raphael’s Cartoons (Pope Leo X commissioned this series of tapestries in around 1515)
Book a Delhi to London flight soon and check its status. Accordingly, pack your bag and set off to fly to the greatest abode of history in the world!

Sarees for Every Occasion
India is known for its traditions and rich cultural heritage. Most festivals are celebrated across the country while some are unique to certain geographical locations. Every festival, no matter what it is, has a story to tell and is celebrated with the same pomp, splendor, grandeur, and, most importantly, pleasure. Major Indian festivals include Diwali, Dussehra, Pongal, Janmashtami, Mahavir Jayanthi, Ganesh Chathurthi, Rakshabandhan, Visu, Onam, etc. All these celebrations are incomplete unless they are celebrated in the respective traditional attires.
Even though Dussehra, Navratri, and Durga Puja all take place at the same time, they are all occasions for new and different clothing. West Bengal, where Durga Puja is celebrated with a lot of exuberance, women prefer to drape themselves in Bengal Cotton or Silk sarees in typical Bengali style. The pallu is draped from back to front and tied to an ornament of jewellery at the end. The cultures of Gujarat and Rajasthan are quite similar but yet very distinct. For Navratri, people in both states choose to wear Bandhani Silk sarees.
How ironic is it that the name Bandhani is derived from the word Bandhan which means bond! Apart from the Bandhani Gujarati and Rajasthani women also wear Cotton Lehariya sarees, heavily decorated with Bandhej work and Patola Silk sarees. No matter how varied we are culturally, there is one thing we all have in common: our passion for sarees. Saree is more than just a piece of fabric; it is an emotion and connection that connects different generations.
Festivities lack the charm if women aren't draped in their choice of Kanjeevaram, Banarasi, etc. For instance, as Ganesh Chaturthi is around the corner. No one knows how old Ganesh Chaturthi is, though there is documented evidence of its existence during the rule of the Marathas in Maharashtra. The Nauvari and Paithani are the two most significant sarees worn by Maharashtrian women, and these are the sarees that they choose to wear during every celebration. These two sarees are possibly older than the event itself. The Koli ladies, the indigenous residents of coastal Maharashtra, made the Nauvari sarees renowned, and they have since grown into popular fashion. Paithani, on the other hand, originated in Paithan, Aurangabad, and is currently handwoven from Yeola, also known as Yeola Paithani in Maharashtra. This saree is distinguished by its handwoven zari border, beautiful patterns, and use of numerous bird themes.
Then comes, Diwali, the festival of lights. In the North women drape themselves in Banarasi Silks. Banarasi sarees are renowned for their gold and silver zaris. Woven in Banaras, it takes a good one year to weave. In the east women drape themselves in Bengal Silk or Muga Silk sarees, Nauvari, Paithani, or Bandhani Silk sarees in the west, and Chanderi Silk sarees from central India. The south is ruled by Mysore Silk Sarees and Queen of Sarees, the Kanjeevarams Silks sarees of Tamilnadu. All of these sarees have golden zaris work done.
Tell us a more appropriate outfit to celebrate the prosperity and goodness of wealth and goddess Lakshmi !! We love to dress according to the occasion, and it very much brings out our wide variety of sarees across India. Shop best sarees with Neeah and make each occasion a memorable one

Banarasi Pattu Sarees
Pattu is a Tamil word, which means silk. Made usually with pure mulberry silk, this lustre filled saree is a representation of elegance and grandeur among the South Indian women. Pattu sarees are exquisite pieces of art woven with pure gold-coated silver zari. These beauties have passed the test of time by staying true to their versatility and beauty. Amongst the ones woven with pure silk, dominant in the southern states are Samudrika Pattu, Parampara Pattu, Vastrakala Pattu, etc, each of them being a masterpiece in itself.
The most unique feature of a Pattu saree is its glossy fabric with a silky feel. However, there can be a certain degree of variation in the texture resulting from the change in the type of silk used and the technique of weaving. There are a wide variety of Pattu sarees based on region such as Mysore Silk, Banarasi, Kanjeevaram, Bhagalpuri, Pochampally Ikat Pattu, etc.
Traditional Pattus, generally used for weddings, feature a multitude of motifs, mainly inspired by temples, flora and fauna. Pattu sarees have always remained a prized possession of South Indian brides, but even brides from other parts of the country are actively considering having these in their trousseau to add variety and class. Here’s where we come into the picture.
It is classic of us Banarasi folks to pick up a form of art and blend it with our city and culture. We ended up doing the same with Pattu Sarees. Except, we called it Banarasi Katan Silk Sarees. We usually add a tinge of Brocade to the rare piece which comes in a combination of black & gold with hints of pink and green. In addition, we make extensive use of Banarasi zari to bring a glossier feel. The combination makes it worth every penny for its opulence. The best part, you do not have to wear additional jewellery or accessories. The grandeur of the saree itself is sufficient and can make you shine in any event. We also experiment with other shimmery colours to bring out the best combinations for our buyers. Adding to this, we also consistently work with our weavers, trying and matching different weaves to bring about an everlasting revolution in the designer pieces of Pattu sarees without compromising on its original glamour.
When you’re in the market for Banaras Pattu sarees online shopping, you are bound to stumble upon our online store. We aspire to be a one stop destination for our buyers across the nation and beyond. We’ve hosted buyers who are usually on the lookout for Banarasi sarees online in Hyderabad, Banaras Pattu sarees online shopping in Bangalore & designer Banarasi sarees online. These buyers have been delighted with our collection and end up having a lifelong relationship with us. We make sure to enhance the buying experience by taking constant feedback and implementing the required changes, with regards to our products or processes.
