20 questions for fic writers
@thatbluelight thank you for tagging me!! here's to another year of writing and girlbossing etc
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
19. but 26 on ffnet :|
2. what’s your total ao3 word count?
496,029
3. what fandoms do you write for?
so right now it's danganronpa (i KNOW and i DON'T wanna hear it) but the majority of my works are for the hobbit and lotr
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The New World, Taking Back Time, Archery Lessons, The Fallen Oak, A Distraction. kind of surprising to find oneshots in there but ig it's what people like
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
only if i have something to say, i don't really like replying just to say thank you. idk it feels like i'm trying to boost my comment count :| not that i judge people who do do that i just don't
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
probably The Fallen Oak? the ending is supposed to be somewhat optimistic but it is about grief and letting go so...yeah
7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
maybe Home and Heart? that was just a two-shot but the whole thing was basically straight fluff so the ending was very happy. how the hell would you write boffins angst anyways. don't answer that
8. do you get hate on any fics?
christ i've gotten way too many transphobic comments on Playing the Hero. i got this one really spiteful comment and peeked at their profile and it was someone who had written a ton of fics themselves. like if you're a loser with an empty profile and you leave hateful comments i kind of get it but if you're also a writer like...why would you do that...
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
yes. vanilla. next question
10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
i write a lot of fusion fics but i guess the closest thing i've gotten to a crossover was Embers. Thorin enters the world of The Witcher to train for fighting dragons, etc etc. very self indulgent, boy playing with action figures premise but people seemed to enjoy it
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
i actually still have the screenshots, i stumbled across this one hobbit fic way back when that was this weird frankenstein piece of cobbled together bits stolen from a bunch of different authors. i was just casually reading it and then i was like "what the fuck this is so similar to the first chapter of Feangren..." anyway the author got a lot of hate and deleted the story
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
naur
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
naur
14. what’s your all time favorite ship?
ugh i mean i don't think anything will ever hit like bagginshield. i know i don't write for it anymore but it still feels like home a little
15. what’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
stop there are so many and i'm so embarrassed. if i had the motivation i would rework the plot for Children of the Apocalypse and try to finish it. i feel bad because it is a sequel and at one point i was really pumped to write it but just. the moment has passed
16. what are your writing strengths?
i think i do pretty well with like a sprinkling of humor. i can't do straight up crackfics anymore. maybe plot too?
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
probably finishing fics i've been getting better but sometimes i struggle to write long chapters. like i have to stretch to hit 3k.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i feel like it only works if you know the language or if you just use short phrases
19. first fandom you wrote for?
legend of zelda. in my composition notebook in third grade lmao
20. favorite fic you’ve written?
it's hard to choose but i have a soft spot for Where Heroes Lie. very self indulgent but it has such a fun mix of action, humor, angst, shlock. feat. my only OC that has healthy parental relationships.
this was actually so fun omg. tagging @nejires-hado @chrononautintraining and i'm definitely forgetting people but if you want to do this just say i tagged you

6, 3, 13 for two ocs of your choice!
I'll do the twins for the first two and get distracted on the third~
6. What are some of your OC’s fears/phobias? (aside from reasonable fears from being four inches tall and living in the woods lol)
Rei - She's uncomfortable in the dark, especially alone, despite how natural it is for her to end up there. She's deaf in her left ear, so her auditory spatial awareness is pretty bad and she feels perpetually lost in the dark.
She's also unusually paranoid about being attacked by birds, can't explain why. Sure, there was a close call once but lots of terrible things have happened once without permanently messing with her head.
Coop - Water/swimming, for genuinely irrational reasons she's never gotten over, though she's full of excuses. Kind of sensitive about it. For the most part, she's less fearful than she should be because she enjoys the adrenaline rush
3. How does your OC express their fear?
Rei - Fear aggression all the way, starting at a calm, irritated snark and running up into attacking whatever's bothering her to the best of her ability.
Coop - Tries confronting things head on, mediating if possible/relevant, but gets stunned and silent when something is too much for her to handle.
13. Describe a nightmare your OC once had.
OK so. I feel weird trying to imagine specific dreams unless it's for plot/magic because I rarely dream and they're not connected to emotions correctly anyway? the last ""nightmare"" I had was expecting a car to be green but it wasn't so I woke up crying. And on the other hand I can have very peaceful dreams about like, getting shot by a bus driver. I genuinely have no idea what makes a dream interesting or upsetting enough for developing a character 💀

Of Blood and Sparks - VI
Tumblr media
Karina Alexandre of Fontaine lost her position, her family, and her Archon's favor. A dead Electro Vision is her mark of guilt. A reminder to never fail again. Faith shattered, and suspicious of the Fatui, she eventually makes her way to Liyue, where she encounters a certain funeral parlor consultant. Little does she know it's only the beginning. Original character centric; eventual Zhongli/OC. Posted originally at @chevalier-of-fontaine. ArchiveOfOurOwn || FF.net || Karina's profile
Her muscles longed to feel the shockwave from her blade hitting something.  Stances and motions were wholly different from exacting force onto a target.  It took more control to end the swing precisely where she wanted, to pay attention to the way her weight shifted.
But there were only rocks here and she wasn’t about to dull her blade so quickly when the sun was only just beginning to crest.
The edge of the harbor was quiet, save for the lapping of waves and the fluttering of wings.  For the only section of beach near a populated city, it was often deserted, but that worked in her favor.  No one could interrupt her and her thoughts could mute themselves as she focused on breathing, treating her sword as an extension of her arm.
Her fingers ached in a way they hadn’t in years, pricked and tender from holding a needle tightly for too long.  Several days of work had given her a dress and a new shirt and pants but she hadn’t missed the long hours hunching over fabric, tearing out stitches, and hoping she hadn’t messed up when cutting the fabric.
So much labor for so little.  It was no wonder so many Fontaine ateliers began to take up the machines that were growing in popularity, last she heard.
One of the last business discussions she recalled her parents having was about whether to invest in the foot-pedal version of the stitching machine.  She’d been slow to pick up projects when she returned from her trial and while they were kind to her, even she knew it would hurt the bottom line if deadlines weren’t made.
Hand sewing felt appropriate now, almost as meditative as her footwork.
Neither seemed to help get rid of the image of the man from the other day, however.  No sound was as melodious as his voice and every glimpse of gold paled in comparison.  The very mora in her wallet looked dull if she gave a second (or third or fourth) thought to the glimmering golden gaze from the stranger she only knew as Zhongli.
Liyue Harbor was large.  She doubted they would ever see each other again.  Besides, she was here for work, to start something new.  And that something new didn’t include infatuation.  That’d never gotten her anywhere.
Karina sheathed her sword and began the trek back to the harbor.  She stopped on the outskirts, just where the beach began to end and where the quartermasters’ voices could be heard.  She rested her weapon against a nearby rock and her boots followed suit, placed neatly next to the sheath.  Karina rolled up her pant legs to her knee and then stepped into the ocean, sand pressing between her toes.  The water was frigid, lapping at her ankles as it yielded to the will of the tide.  If she wasn’t awake from the adrenaline running through her veins, she was certainly awake from the icy touch.
On the docks, she could see workers starting their day.  Ships were loaded, unloaded, inventory counted once, and then probably a second time.  Manifests were triple-checked, orders barked from captains as ships began to prepare to head back out to sea, making way for new ships to come in.
Everything ran like clockwork, well-oiled and perfectly organized.  Predictable.  Like the tide.
Or perhaps more like the Geo Archon the people liked and revered so much. Steady as stone, smoothed down until the perfections were nonexistent.
But every stone had its cracks, its weak-spots, and all it would take would be the right people to exploit them.
Which was why distractions like a certain stranger would do her no good and it wasn’t worth her time.   Usually such people were one in the same.
Even still, she made connections in Mondstadt, and they made time feel a little less numb and empty.  Only a few days of settling in and she was already missing Lisa’s research suggestions, word of Klee’s antics, and the occasional night out at Angel’s Share where familiar faces dotted the space and she was never left feeling as though she didn’t belong.
Something Zhongli’s exchange had given her as well.  He was at least kind and courteous to her and seemed to want nothing out of the conversation other than to help her.
It wasn’t as if anything much worse could happen.  After all, her family was dead and her powers dormant, probably for good, and she’d never return home.
Perhaps it couldn’t hurt to at least try.  If not with Zhongli, then the next person who at least made the harbor feel a little less strange.
_____________________
The shop was tucked into a quiet street off of the main thoroughfare, nestled between a quiet tea house and a bookstore.  Karina triple-checked the address and smoothed out her dress before stepping inside.  A bell above the door gave a soft jingle as she crossed the threshold.
It felt strange to not have the weight of her sword at her hip and have thin hosiery over her legs instead of pants.  Even stranger to wear something that was both new and of her hand rather than garments that were repaired and well-worn.  Her Vision hung where it always did, heavy against the fabric.
The entryway was small and narrow, with enough space for a few places to sit and a front desk.  A small set of stairs led to the back of the shop, where Karina could see the platform and mirror where a client would be measured and their clothes pinned, several racks of clothes, and a few doors to what she presumed were changing rooms.
Dark cherry wood dominated and while the space seemed dark at first, it was actually very well-lit in the workspace.  Homey, even.
She never again thought she would consider any other atelier to be as such.
“We’re not open just yet,” a voice called from the back.  “Mr. Yuan makes a fantastic cup of tea next door, if you’d like to come back.”
“Forgive me for intruding, I’m Karina, the new seamstress and assistant.  I thought it prudent to arrive early before clients began coming by.  I sent a note a few days ago.”
She had, although whether her handwriting had been legible from her exhaustion was a different story.
There was a sound of a throat being cleared and then the smaller but unmistakable sounds of work being put down and away.  A tall and slender woman appeared at the top of the short set of stairs, once-dark hair faded with silver streaks pulled back into an older fashion.
“I’m Jun Lei, the shopkeeper.  I’ll need another example of your handwriting; your letter seemed like it was written by the dimmest light,” the other woman said.  “You came highly recommended, both for your drive to fight and for your experience in tailoring.”
Gray eyes scanned Karina up and down as Jun Lei descended the stairs, still towering over the Fontaine woman by a good few inches.
“From my understanding, you grew up in such a shop and have close to two decades of experience.  With the exception of your military time, of course.  An interesting combination for one from a humble background.”
“I wanted to serve my country and my family.  My skills lay with a sword but I wield a needle well enough, madame.”
“I can see that.  Neat and tidy stitches, careful embroidery on the cuffs and hemline.  Not the approach I would have taken but styles vary.”
A thoughtful hum came from Jun Lei as she took Karina’s hands in hers.  Calloused fingers ran across tender fingertips and roughened palms.  Few parts of her hands were soft, even if she wore gloves when fighting.
“You’ll do,” Jun Lei released her hands and gestured to the stairs.  “Come, I’ll show you your workstation and we’ll get started on the paperwork.”

I got distracted and remembered @ladyknightskye did a tag thing that I felt like responding to, so here's that. (You can also do it if you want?)
Your name: Zita. Just call me Zita.
Your first fandom(s): Uhhhhhh I guess the first one I really went online for was Pokemon? I was into the end of Pokemon fandom where people did crossovers with everything and had absolutely wild OC adventures set in America for no reason. That kind of thing.
Your current fandom(s): Mostly Halo. I have other things I like, but Halo's kept me pretty busy. RvB if you talk me into it. Tabletop rpgs too. (And I mean "tabletop rpgs," I have some favorites but I'm really into watching the whole field.)
How did you first get into fandom?: I was real young back in the 90s during the Pokemon craze and, at that point in Internet history, you could go to the library and check out a book that was JUST a listing of Pokemon fan websites. A literal book. That a someone sold for actual money. That's how I first ran into personal sites belonging to pokemon nerds, and webrings, and fanfiction, and all that other stuff.
How long have you been engaging in fandom spaces?: I was active on fanfiction.net when I was like 8 years old. I didn't have an account, though. I was just really insufferable in peoples' review sections, but that was pretty normal. There were a lot of kids doing that. I am often not really active in "fandom" spaces but over the years I've generally had people to hang out with and talk to even if I wasn't posting fanfiction or w/e.
How often do you read fanfics?: Rarely. Like, to the point where I feel bad about not engaging with other fans' work as much as I'd like to. As I've gotten older, I've had less and less free time and more and more difficulty focusing. I count myself lucky when I successfully get through something. There's a lot of excellent work out there that I just am not able to stick my eyes to for long enough.
Top three characters from your current fandom(s):
DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE????
We all know Chief's the top of the Halo pile for me but the competition for spot #2 is so ferocious I can't even do it.
I love so many of them. ;_;
Anyway I guess because we're on this blog: Grif is the best RvB. Followed very closely by Carolina. And then the third spot falls too hard into tossup territory.
Have you ever written fic for a fandom?: Oh yeah bro I got a link on this blog.
Have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom?: I don't draw as much as I used to, like once or twice a year anymore, but boy did I used to. I still draw tabletop characters sometimes, because I tend to gravitate to nonhuman characters that require some effort on my part to make a token for.
Share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about:
…I feel like I do that on my blog constantly and nothing I could say would be a surprise to anyone.
And finally, what does fandom mean to you?: Something fun to think about because so many other things I have to think about are… not fun at all. Even better because you get to do it with people and some of them turn out to be really cool to talk with.

Okay, I think I figured it out. Probably going to focus mostly on Uva and keep most of the main cast there since I experienced the plot through Violet first. Naranja will be a ‘rival academy’ likewise located in Mesagoza; the city is large enough to host two schools. Not going to worry much about populating Naranja with teachers and staff because chances are slim that it will feature much in the narrative beyond verbal mentions. Dumping the rest of this behind a read-more because it delves into spoilers for the game plot.
Arven will likely have both Miraidon and Koraidon and be equally glad to get rid of both of them. Koraidon gets pawned off on a convenient Naranja student - Araceli. It is an admittedly more desperate attempt to get the feathered brute away from him ASAP. Miraidon gets foisted off on Chloe. It doesn’t get the robo dragon as far away from him but it still gets it out of his hair. Good enough. That’s... about as far as I have gotten, at least on the start of the story. I have a few scraps of ideas about the end game portion of the plot that I’m still mulling over. Mostly, the possibility that instead of just a group of five going into the Crater (Chloe, Araceli, Arven, Nemona and Penny) it might be a group of eight. The plan is to split them into two equal sized parties once they reach a certain point in Area Zero. One to deal with Turo, one to deal with Sada. Two time machines need to be put out of commission. At first I was thinking about having Araceli just draw three students from Naranja to help, but the more I thought about it the less enthused with the idea I got. She will probably spend most of her time in the story interacting with the Uva gang so I would not have time to devote to on-screen development of those Naranja students. Then I had the idea of using my trainer OCs from other regions to fill those roles. Penny is from Galar - she could plausibly know Jules well enough to call her in. Jules might not be the Sinnoh Champion anymore, and will likely not became Galar’s new Champion, but she is still a strong trainer. That kind of fire power would come in handy. (Plus I am amused by the idea of Nemona getting distracted because holy shit Penny you didn’t say that your friend is a former regional Champion do you think she will battle me?! Priorities, Nemona, priorities.) The other two... I’m not sure about yet. Chloe lived in Kalos, Unova and Alola before moving to Paldea, so she could theoretically still be in contact with old friends from those regions that could help. Drawback is that I don’t remember enough about those games to have any fleshed out characters from those regions. And I don’t remember where my 3DS and the copies of those games are now. Somewhere in my room... Oh, wait. I could just use my player character from my first playthrough of the game as one of them. Just switch her over to being a Naranja student instead of Uva. Still leaves the problem of who the third trainer would be... Maybe one of my Kanto/Johto region trainers. I haven’t used my former Team Rocket character Damien for anything in a while. (He was a runner for Team Rocket, though not by choice. He was a street kid who got mixed up in doing shady jobs for them in exchange for room and board out of desperation.) He probably has skills that would come in handy in Area Zero. The main problem would be figuring out how and why to get him to Paldea... Of course, this would mean that I’d have to write the Galarian adventures first. Which means that I may have to write the Sinnoh story first. Which means that I may have to write the Hisui story before that. God the scope of this project just keeps getting bigger RIP. ...still not as complex as a Yu-Gi-Oh! project would be.
The silver lining to abundant slow periods at work during an opening shift is that it gives me time to work out plot ideas. Could be RP related, could be fic related. Only drawback is that my brain pretty much spins a wheel to pick what will be worked out, so lots of bouncing around.
This morning it is chewing on the possible Scarlet/Violet based fic that would be Chloe and Araceli's story. The main issue is that I am trying to figure out how to combine their stories. Chloe is from a Violet playthrough, while Araceli is from my Scarlet file. There are differences. Differences that I want to include. I figure that both Uva and Naranja Academy exist; I just have to pick which will be my main focus to determine where characters like Nemona and Arven are.

Your first encounter with Kim Seokjin doesn’t go so well, nor your second, or your third… and maybe that’s because it shouldn’t work on paper. You’re an elementary school teacher, never left the country despite hitting the third decade of your life not so long ago, and you’re unable to remember the last time you dated. He’s the dad of one of your students, nearly a decade older than you and divorced. Oh yes, and just another minor detail – he’s a multimillionaire.
Your lives are lightyears apart, yet somehow, your paths having now crossed, things just seem to fall into place…

A few days after Arin’s birthday party school started back, and just as you’d known you got incredibly busy, incredibly fast. With admin and getting to know your new students you found that you were too distracted to dwell on all the things that had been worrying you. Yes, it was strange not being able to see Seokjin practically whenever you wanted, and yes, you missed him – and the summer, but with work so hectic it cushioned the blow. You didn’t have time to live inside your own head or get sad about stupid, tiny things.
Letting the school know about your relationship wasn’t mandatory now that you weren’t Arin’s teacher, but you felt better for it, meeting with Hoseok one morning to inform him. Eunbi already knew, being quite a close a friend to you, and slowly, over the next few days you let some of the other teachers you were friendly with know too. You found it quite exciting. You’d been single for such a long time so finding yourself in conversations about your boyfriend filled you with a happiness you weren’t quite used to. You liked talking about Seokjin, bigging him up, some could call it bragging… He’d even very kindly donated money for a new playground to be built in the kindergarten area. He wanted to help Primrose Hill any which way he could. It meant a lot to you and his daughter.
It only took around three weeks to get yourself into a routine. For both of you to find a rhythm and make it work well. Your lunch break wasn’t long enough for you to zip to Seokjin’s office and join him so he always made an effort to come to you. Sometimes you’d eat in his car, sometimes yours, or sometimes you’d meet in a small café near the school. You cherished that short time together because sometimes that’s all you could have. Depending on how busy you both were you often couldn’t spend time together in the evenings. You tried to at least once in the week, but weekends were reserved for things like spending the night.
It was Tuesday today and you somehow had a night free from lesson planning which meant you could join Seokjin and Arin for dinner. You were glad really, because Seokjin had been stressed since yesterday and you hadn’t had a chance to see him properly. He had to go away on last minute business this weekend but it coincided with Misook’s family vacation. He’d asked Nana if Arin could stay with her this weekend but she was busy too. He didn’t know what to do, other than try and postpone the trip. Key word: try.
Misook had left for the day just as you were arriving, Arin in her room, too busy playing on the Nintendo Switch she’d gotten from Nana for her birthday, so it gave you some brief time alone with Seokjin. You were shocked to see him still in his suit, sat in contemplation alone in the family room. Oh, boy. You hated seeing him so stressed. He was never one to mope or even show his mood. You knew him well enough by now to be able to tell when he was drained, but he still didn’t let it affect him too much, always smiling, always joking around. This evening was different. He’d barely said a few sentences, mostly it involved apologising for his bad mood. He felt selfish, not being much company, yet still needing yours. He had nothing to be sorry for, you reassured, resting your head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around you, holding you close. You reached for his hand, and there you stayed like that for a little while, fingers laced together.
Arin made her way in soon enough, stomach rumbling, a hopeful lilt to her voice as she walked over to you both, hands behind her back. “Can we have pizza for dinner?”
Seokjin shifted, unlacing your fingers and dropping his arm from your shoulders as you both sat up straighter. “Didn’t we have that yesterday, Arin?”
Arin didn’t miss. She was a professional. “But Y/N wasn’t here yesterday. She missed out.”
Her comeback even managed to draw a quiet chuckle out of her dad. “We’re not having pizza, sweetie.”
She sighed softly, crossing her arms around her chest as she looked your way. “Daddy is moody today.”
You raised an eyebrow, your mouth unable to stop quirking up in amusement. “He is?”
“Why do you say that?” Seokjin asked. His tone was light, but you could tell by his frown lines her casual words had him worrying.
“I heard you on the phone this morning to mommy. There’s no one to look after me when you go away this weekend and she can’t do it.”
Seokjin faltered, not expecting such a frank answer. He composed himself quickly. “She’s just really busy, Arin. She wanted to look after you, she just couldn’t this time.”
“I know,” she replied simply, nodding her head.
There was a beat of silence and then Seokjin reached for her, kissing her cheek, his voice quiet with apology. “I’m sorry. Was I really moody today?” He looked unsurely your way too.
“Uh huh. You hardly smiled, and when I tried telling you about the field trip I’m going on next week you weren’t even listening properly.” Arin’s small voice filled with such attitude was comical.
Seokjin chuckled. “Daddy’s really sorry. I’m smiling now, though, right?” Arin nodded. “And if you’re kind enough, you can tell me about your trip again over dinner. Is that okay?”
“Hmm.” She thought allowed. “So can we get pizza?”
Seokjin snorted. “Nice try, young lady. It’s still a no.”
.
.
Seokjin ordered from one of his favourite restaurants, helping you set the table as Arin went to check on her rabbits. You ate together, listening as Arin spoke all about her upcoming field trip, finally having her father’s undivided (and interested) attention. However, halfway in, she completely changed the topic, throwing you both.
“Can’t I stay with Y/N this weekend?”
“Hm?” Seokjin looked over at her, visibly surprised.
You swallowed what was left in your mouth just as Arin’s eyes found yours.  “I can just stay with you while daddy has to go away.” Your lips parted, trying to think of something to say, your years of teacher training falling short.
Seokjin beat you to it. “No, no, sweetie,” he shook his head, sounded a little flustered, taken by surprise. “Y/N will probably be busy on the weekend. That’s her only free time, she can’t look after you.”
With a small shrug, she put her fork to her mouth. “It was just a thought.”
Seokjin looked over at you, expression apologetic as he mouthed sorry.
.
.
Hey, listen…” You began, feeling oddly nervous as you looked up at your boyfriend. It was a couple of hours later, Arin was in bed, time was getting on, you had to leave soon, but cuddled up against him, both curled up on the sofa as you watched mindless television, you really didn’t want to go anywhere. Seokjin had relaxed a little by now (the wonders of food), but you could still tell his mind was exhausted as his gaze fell on yours. You took a breath, deeper than intended, psyching yourself up. “I really don’t mind looking after Arin this weekend.”
You didn’t miss the way his eyes widened a tad, obviously taken by surprise, but then his mouth lifted at the side, his head shaking from side to side lightly as he let out a breathy chuckle. “Y/N, don’t feel like you have to just because she brought it up.”
You found yourself relaxing. He didn’t want you to feel obligated. You’d thought so, but the teeniest tiniest most worrisome part of your brain had thought he might now have wanted, or trusted you, to look after Arin. That wasn’t the case. You could tell by the look on his face. He didn’t want to put you out, ask too much of you.
You moved and straightened your back, eye to eye now. “No, I honestly don’t mind at all, Seokjin.” You reassured, talking faster as you noticed him open his mouth. “Seeing as Arin was the one who suggested it, I guess she’s fine with the idea. I…” Hesitating, you added something else. “I wanted to suggest it myself but… If she’s comfortable with it, I’d love to.”
It was the truth. Ever since Seokjin had called you at lunch time, telling you Nana couldn’t manage this weekend, you’d wanted to tell him you were up for it but something had stopped you. Even as he’d tried to think of options this evening – maybe his mom could stay for the weekend, his aunt – you’d held back and bitten your tongue. What if you were pushing boundaries? Inserting yourself into situations that didn’t concern you? Arin liked you, yes,   but being entirely in your care for 48 hours was different. She might not want to, she might feel uncomfortable. However knowing that it wasn’t the case, suggesting it herself so casually over dinner had given you the confidence to push through. Seokjin needn’t be worried about asking too much of you.
Regarding you silently, he considered your words. Lovingly, you glided your hand up his arm, reaching out for his cheek. He pressed into your touch automatically. “I want to help you out.” At that, he smiled gently, lips turning up in a way that rounded his cheeks, making him appear at least a decade younger. It was wholly unfair.
Turning slightly, his lips grazed your palm. “I’ll ask her about it in the morning.” You grinned, visibly pleased, and Seokjin took your hand to tug you gently to his chest. This time he placed a kiss on your mouth, humming happily. “Thank you.”
Tumblr media
Arin was more than happy about it. Seokjin suggested you stay at his home for the weekend, seeing as that would be easier for the both of you, but she was pretty adamant she wanted to stay at your place. You understood, kid’s curiosity and all. She wanted to know what your home looked like, she wanted to meet your “pretty best friend” she liked to ask about sometimes. Honestly, you felt touched that she wanted to learn more about your life. It was just another reminder of her acceptance when it came to you, and you’d be forever touched by how easily she’d let you into her life. She was more than welcome to come stay at your place, but of course you’d run it by Soojung first. She’d agreed quite easily, even after you informed her you’d be sharing her bed all weekend, Arin of course using yours.
On Thursday night Seokjin’s guilt was getting the better of him. He had you on the phone, making sure you were 100% okay with looking after Arin. He didn’t want you to feel as if you were trapped just because you felt compelled to help him. He could cancel his trip. You told him how stupid he was being. Cancelling would put so many people out, including himself. Besides, you not only wanted to help him out, you wanted to take care of Arin. You felt as though you were capable, and if you were being even more honest with him, you felt really happy it was happening. Knowing Arin trusted you this much was a great feeling. Knowing he trusted you enough…
“Why wouldn’t I trust you?” He scoffed in disbelief. “You’re great with her. She loves you.”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” you laughed.
“How come?” He was hellbent on proving you wrong, voice softening as he continued. “You’re so easy to love.”
You felt your heart skip a beat. He’d said it so casually, so easily, you felt dumb searching too much into his words. It was far too early to think of things like that – for confessions like that. Right? Still, he sounded genuine enough. He meant it, even if it wasn’t in that way. Not that you were expecting anything. You were perfectly happy with how things were, your feelings growing stronger each day. You weren’t in a rush, neither was he. That’s what made your relationship so great. But your heart still felt all fuzzy regardless. You found yourself smiling down the line, your thanks obvious in your tone. “I’m going to miss you.”
“I’ll miss you more.” He ignored your noises of complaint. “I’ll video call you a lot – and Arin of course.” Then he laughed. “Although, I’ll have a feeling she won’t miss me at all this weekend.”

The next day you finished up work early, it was a Friday anyway, so you never made a habit of sticking around too long, but this time you were packed and ready to go the same time as the kids. Arin would be waiting in her classroom, ready to go home with you for the weekend. Seokjin had dropped off her things early this morning before his flight, indulging you in a few sleepy kisses before he had to go, a promise of ‘I’ll see you Sunday night,” slipping from his slightly downturned lips, hands reluctant to let you go.
Arin was visibly excited when she saw you, seconds away from jumping up and down on the spot, your first name rushing out of her mouth without realising. It was no big deal of course, but her reaction was cute, eyes widening as her lips parted into a circle, a noise of realisation leaving her. She looked very much like her father, which made it even funnier. You took her hand, saying your goodbyes to Mr. Moon, her second grade teacher, and left the building for your car.
“This is a really nice car, Y/N,” she complimented as you made sure she was strapped in properly. You weren’t nervous, but you were slightly on edge, cautious, being a better word, to make sure everything was okay. You needed all bases covered. Arin was in your care for 48 hours after all. You told yourself to calm down, if Seokjin knew you were being this antsy he’d be highly amused. You wouldn’t stop hearing about it for a week.
“I’ve always wanted to ride in it,” Arin continued.
You smiled down at her. “Thank you.” She was one of the sweetest kids you knew. Your car was average. Not that she knew anything about makes and prices and whatever else there was. You didn’t either. As long as it drove you from point A to B you didn’t care what it looked like.
“Will your best friend be home when we arrive?” She asked as you got inside the driver’s seat, sticking the key in the ignition.
“Soojung? She’ll be still in work. Remember I told she works at a department store?” It was adorable how excited she was to meet Soo. Your best friend’s head would be double the size soon, ego inflated.
“Mhmm,” Arin hummed responsively.
“She won’t be done until around 6.” You turned back to look at her, knowing your next sentence would make her day. “I think she wanted to get pizza for dinner. Would you like that?”
“YES!” Arin exclaimed immediately, eyes lighting up. “Soojung likes pizza too?”
With a chuckle, you started the vehicle up and started backing out of your spot, replying as you did so. “She does.” But in truth, the pizza tonight was Seokjin’s idea. He’d given you one of his bank cards to spend on the food bill with strict instructions to only feed her the doughy delicacy once this weekend. He knew what she was like – you both did. She’d eat pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner if she could. If you suggested it tonight, then that was it. She’d be eating your menu come Saturday and Sunday.
“How far away is your house from the school?”
You’d lost count of how many questions she’d already asked you since you’d arrived to collect her. It was comical. Seokjin had not warned you about that, but your years of experience had told you to expect it. What was a kid without questions? You’d be worried if she was silent.
“Not too long.” You replied, glancing in the rear view mirror to see her happily looking out of the window. “When we get in, I’ll text daddy and see if he’s free to videocall.”
“Okay.”
You tried to stop the smile that wanted to break across your face at her nonchalance. “Do you miss him yet?”
With a brief shake of her head, still staring at the whizzing scenery outside she answered pretty simply. “Not really.”
This time you burst out laughing, unable to stop. She looked over at the noise, meeting your eyes in the mirror as you took a right turn, giggling along. “Don’t tell him though, Y/N. It might make him sad.”
“I won’t, Arin.” You reassured with another chuckle. “It can be our little secret.”
.
.
She settled in well that night, immediately warming to Soojung (who despite her lifelong insistence, was great with children). You thought perhaps Arin would begin to get homesick once it was time for bed, but after watching a movie you tucked her in and said goodnight. You thought she’d have trouble sleeping because she was in a strange bed but checking in on her twenty minutes later you found her fast asleep, hugging her rabbit plushie. You on the other hand got ready to share a bed with Soojung – the bed cover hogger…
The next day Arin had you awake at 6am. You already knew about her liveliness in the mornings, so it was no surprise. You’d been woken up countless times over the summer by a knock at Seokjin’s door, Arin’s voice calling out for him. On days you weren’t there she’d even barge in and jump on the bed. Where she got her energy from so early in the morning was a mystery. This morning however, she caught you on the way out of the bathroom. You’d been tossing and turning all night, wresting the covers from Soo. You’d thought about maybe taking a blanket and having an hours nap on the sofa, but there Arin was creeping out of your room, a smile on her face as she saw it was you.
There was no tempting her back to bed, so you sat her down at the table and made her some breakfast, snapping a picture to send to her father. (Captioned: Guess who had me up at 6am 😴) You had a few things planned today. Seokjin always made sure Arin was busy on the weekends, it was the only time he got to spend with her fully unless she was with her mom, especially now that she was back in school. Even if it was just something as simple as going to the park, he always made plans. So, to do your part and to keep her entertained, you were going to run by her house to make sure the rabbits were fine (fed and watered), then go to the mall. It was simple, yes, but you needed to get a few things anyway, and you promised after all that walking around you’d stop by the food court. Then she had to accompany you to the grocery store to get ingredients for tonight’s dinner.
She was pretty damn excited regardless. “I like going to the mall with mommy because daddy finds it boring,” she informed you as she picked out her clothes that you’d helped her unpack yesterday. That definitely sounded like Seokjin, you thought to yourself, laughing along with her. “Mommy told me that next weekend she’s going to take me shopping and buy me anyyy-thing I want.”
“That sounds like great fun,” you smiled, telling yourself you’d pretend you never heard that… Seokjin was keen not to spoil Arin so you didn’t think he’d be best pleased to find this out. “What do you want to buy?”
“Hmm. Something for Olive and Ariel, I think.”
You smiled again, admiring her caring nature. Her rabbits were the most well looked after in this entire country. She adored them. “I think they’ll really appreciate that.”
You continued helping Arin get ready first, and thankfully by the time you were done Soojung had risen. You left them watching cartoons together while you showered, eager to leave by 10am.
Arin you found out, didn’t just like the mall, she loved it very much. She was practically skipping around the place as she held your hand, helping you pick out the things you needed for your craft session with the students on Monday. While she was recommending paint colours to you, she surprised you with a confession. “I wish you were still my teacher, Y/N.”
“How come?” You asked gently.
She gave a tiny shrug. “I’d get to see you every day.”
Oh. You didn’t know what to say to that, touched at her matter-of-fact revelation. Instead you wrapped an arm around her shoulders, giving her a loving squeeze.
“But actually, maybe I wouldn’t like it.” She added as an afterthought. You waited, curious as to why she’d changed her mind so suddenly. “I’d have to call you Miss Y/L/N. I’d get too confused.”
You laughed, this child was far too funny for her own good. “Me too, Arin. It’s better this way, right?”
“Right,” she agreed with a nod.
.
.
“Y/N, this is pretty,” Arin cooed, calling your attention as you rounded the stand. You’d gotten everything you needed and were now browsing around some other stores. You’d let Arin pick a couple out, worrying she might be getting bored, and one of her choices had been Claire’s. She was holding up a charm bracelet.
“Very pretty,” you agreed.
And then she struck. “Can I have it?” She didn’t give you time to answer, eyes widening as she began to beg, voice soft and hopeful. “Please. Pretty please.”
You chuckled. You were practically immune to cute kids, so that wouldn’t work on you. However, she had been really well-behaved all morning, in your eyes she deserved a small treat. “You can. But just this one thing, okay?”
“Thank you, Y/N!” She squealed, rushing up to you. She gave your arm a squeeze. “I like you much better than daddy.”
“That will hurt his feelings,” you burst out laughing. She didn’t have to butter you up, you’d already said yes.
As you were paying the cashier, she wondered off to a stand of keychains, her eyes catching something instantly. “Oooh, pretty,” she purred and the cashier, a woman no more than a few years older than you, laughed.
“Best escape before she wants something else,” you joked, handing over some cash.
“My daughter is just the same. Kids, who’d have them, right? We’re glutton for punishment.” She joked.
“Oh, no, I’m –” You stopped yourself dead, unsure what to say. Had this woman just mistaken you for Arin’s mother? It definitely sounded that way. But just how could you correct her?
“Don’t get me wrong,” the cashier said, shaking her head. “They’re definitely worth it.”
You forced yourself to smile, feeling a little wooden, but the chuckle you got out sounded better. “Yeah, yeah they are.” You glanced over at Arin, thankfully she was too distracted by the abundance of cute animal keychains. You turned back and took your bag from the woman, trying to shake off how awkward you felt. “Thank you. Bye.”
Walking over to Arin you took her hand. “Hope to see you again soon,” the cashier called behind you and you gave a wave, telling Arin to do the same.
“Thank you,” she sang sweetly as she did so.
.
.
“So, something weird happened today,” you told Soojung as you prepared food, careful to keep your voice low even though Arin was well and truly distracted inside the living room. Taehyung was a master with children. The guy needed a career change immediately. You’d never heard Arin laugh so hard. She’d been in stitches for the last hour. You were worried she’d be way to hyperactive for bedtime once it came.
Soojung looked up from where she was chopping onion, interested as her eyebrow raised.
“The woman at Claire’s mistook me for Arin’s mother.”
Soojung scoffed, lifting her shoulders in a casual shrug. “I’m not surprised. It was bound to happen. It’s normal.” She added, reassuring you as she saw the look on your face. “People just naturally assume.”
“I guess…”
“What did you tell her?”
Your expression turned sheepish. “I just went along with it,” you confessed, placing spaghetti in a pan of bubbling water. You caught the look she gave you. “I didn’t know what to say!” It was the truth. “I’m her father’s girlfriend seemed too… I don’t know…” Too impersonal?
“That’s what you are though,” Soo snorted.
You gave up, knowing you were probably making a huge deal out of this. Was it that serious? Probably not. “I just felt awkward.”
“Because you hate correcting people, or because you didn’t like someone mistaking you for Arin’s mother,” your best friend pried.
“It’s definitely not that. It’s just…” You sighed. “How would Arin feel about it? What if she’d heard?”
Soojung shrugged. “She loves you. You’re great with her.”
That wasn’t the point you were trying to make. “It still might have upset her though. She adores her mom.” You weren’t trying to take Nana’s place and you didn’t want her to ever think that.
It was Soo’s turn to sigh, dropping the chopped onions into a fry pan. “Do you want my opinion?”
“Please,” you requested meekly.
“I think you’re looking way too much into it.” Obviously. “It’s not a big deal at all, and Arin didn’t hear anything so nothing to worry about.”
“You’re right,” you agreed, telling yourself to shake it off.
“Of course I am,” she quipped, rooting around in a cupboard now. She turned back, a can of tomatoes in her hand. “I’m sure Seokjin will be able to ease your mind with his sexy Dilf powers or whatever he calls them.”
“Shut up,” you groaned. You weren’t even sure if you were going to tell him. Like she kept saying, it wasn’t a big deal, right? It was an easy mistake to make. Probably happened all the time.
From inside the living room you heard Taehyung roar loudly, mimicking a lion (possibly) and Arin shrieked out his name, laughter exploding from her. “Quick, let’s get dinner ready as soon as possible.” Soojung begged, dramatic as always. “I’m scared Tae might be getting ideas. I’m too young for kids!”
.

The rest of the weekend went by smoothly. Despite the excitement levels that Saturday night brought, Arin was knocked out by 9pm. You, Soojung and Taehyung stayed up for another hour before he had to leave and then Soo made her way to bed, needing to wake up early tomorrow for work. That left you on the couch, awaiting Seokjin’s video call. He’d already called once today, but Arin was so hyped, talking a mile a minute about her day, you couldn’t get a word in edgeways. (Neither could he.) You were thankful for some alone time. You were missing him. He’d gone away on business trips a couple of times in the summer but it didn’t mean you’d get used to it. You both talked about your day, and you decided there and then not to tell him about the Claire’s “incident.” Soojung was right, it was no big deal. It was a common misunderstanding, one you’d probably made unknowingly before too. After you’d said your goodbyes you went to bed, already strategizing how you were going to steal the covers back from Soojung. As much as you’d enjoyed looking after Arin, you couldn’t wait to have your own bed back. Sharing with your bestie was torture. Taehyung was an admirable man.
Sunday was a chillout day, although Arin still had you awake at 6am. You made her breakfast, watched some cartoons and shared turns on her Switch before you both got ready for the day. You checked in on Olive and Ariel briefly before driving back to your place. There was a park nearby and you promised you’d take her. The weather was still warm despite September trickling by. It was crazy how fast this year had gone, autumn already nearly here. For the rest of the day you both relaxed in front of the TV, waiting until Soojung was home to watch a movie, and then you made dinner. Seokjin was due back around 7pm, so you made sure all of Arin’s things were packed up ready to go. It was just gone eight when he turned up at your door. Arin had already passed out on the sofa after her hot chocolate so he couldn’t stay long. You thought with how entertaining this weekend had been it had finally all caught up with her.
“Are you sure you don’t want to spend the night?” He asked, careful to keep his voice down as he strapped Arin inside his car. (Still sleeping.) You’d followed him out as he carried her towards the vehicle, wanting to say your goodbyes.
He straightened up, closing the car door as he stepped closer to you. You rubbed his arm. “You must be exhausted.”
“Don’t baby me.” Reaching forward, he wrapped his arms around you, squishing your arms to your side. “I missed you.”
You hummed, pressing your lips to his, careful to keep your voice a whisper. “Your dick missed me.”
He scoffed in disbelief but couldn’t argue. “That’s…not a lie. My heart missed you too though.”
“How sweet,” you joked, but couldn’t keep your charade up for much longer. “I missed you too.” This time the press of your mouth was much firmer. He matched it, letting you slip your arms around his sides, holding him too.
“Tomorrow, then?” He asked hopefully, tip of his tongue wetting his bottom lip slightly as he pulled away. “I know it’s a school night but I swear I only get a good night’s sleep lying next to you.”
Laughing, you nodded your head. “Tomorrow.” You agreed wholeheartedly. Sleeping alone was no fun anymore.
He captured your mouth again, humming happily. “Can’t wait.”

The following weekend Arin was with her mom so you and Seokjin had the entire weekend to yourselves. Saturday was busy, you’d both probably been a little too ambitious when you’d decided to cram as many different activities as you could into the day, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. You didn’t get many days to spend together likes this; walking hand in hand as you explored the local market, having brunch together, checking out a new museum exhibit, watching a movie at the theatre… You treasured days like these. And what better way to end one with? Jacuzzi time!
Seokjin’s jacuzzi was fast becoming one of life’s staples lately. Who were you? A changed woman, that’s who. This was your favourite space in Seokjin’s garden(s). An area of decking, solar lights draped over the sleek fencing. In the middle was the jacuzzi, set into the wood. Now that the nights were drawing in, it was especially cosy out here, summer holding on for just a little bit longer as the weather stayed quite warm. It wouldn’t be like this for long so you had to make the most of it right now.
You were sat inside the jacuzzi, water gently bubbling around you as you gazed up at the stars that had just started to appear when you heard Seokjin emerging from the house. His footsteps sounded against the wooden steps as he made his way towards you. You didn’t bother looking but when he didn’t join you straight away, you glanced over curiously. To be met with a rather naked boyfriend.
“What are you doing?!” You exclaimed, eyes bugging out.
He grinned. It was hardly innocent. “Jacuzzi’s are much more enjoyable naked, didn’t you know?”
You tsked, watching him climb into the tub and make his way over to you. His mouth was immediately on yours, arms around your waist as he tugged for you to stand up. This wasn’t just any type of kiss. Like you’d said before, you knew Seokjin very well by now, and besides, you’d already noticed his dick was half aroused as he stood above you… He had a plan.
On cue, he broke away, corners of his plump lips tugging upwards with a suggestion.
“Join me?”
“Seokjin…” You warned, voice low, hands grazing the tops of his arms. He couldn’t be serious.
“No one can see us,” he reassured you with a wider smile.
You mean, he was correct. This time you let your hands make their way to his shoulders, massaging them lightly. “You’re crazy.”
“Yeah, crazy for you,” he smirked, leaning in to kiss you once again. His lips were slow, coaxing. Even more so as they made their way down your jaw and to your neck. You keened into his touch, his hands grazing down your sides, fingers toying with the sides of your bikini bottoms. “C’mon…” He sunk his teeth into your skin gently and you whined. “I know you want to.” You did indeed. Very much so. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you confirmed, voice suddenly hoarse. You cleared your throat just as his fingers began to untie the strings of your bra, mouth still peppering your neck with kisses. Until that was your chest was bare, and then his lips were wrapped around one nipple, water rippling with the sudden movement. You moaned as quietly as you could, wanting to encourage him because it felt good, but also nervous as hell because you were outside. You didn’t care if there was no one around for a good mile, you were still out in the open.
Cupping your breasts in his palms he gazed down at them, sighing dreamily. “Have I ever told you how much I love your tits?”
You raised an eyebrow. “One. Don’t be so crude.” (Not that you didn’t like it.) “And two. Yes, yes you have.” You broke off with a laugh, reaching for him to mesh your mouths together. He couldn’t help but chuckle too, but elsewhere he had a hand down your bikini to grab your ass.
“What’s gotten – Seokjin!” You practically roared, cutting yourself off as he suddenly dived down into the water, fully submerged, hands attempting to tear your bottoms off. “What are you doing,” you giggled, clinging to his back as you tried to stay upright. He had one of your ankles in his hand, wrestling with the fabric.
A few moments later he arose successful, flicking his head back to stop his wet hair from dripping in his eyes. He pushed it back further with his hands, forehead now devastating, skin glistening with water droplets. You heart stilled, he looked gorgeous – and naughty. Behind him your bikini bottoms floated to the surface. A smirk spread across his face as he finally replied. “Getting you naked.” And then he was on you.
He kissed you hungrily, his erection pressed up against you, hot and eager now, just like his tongue. Your fingers threaded through his wet locks, letting him push his body weight into you until the backs of your legs hit the seat.
“Up here for me,” he pulled away briefly, command light, tapping his hand against the deck behind you. You let him slip his hands around your hips and lift you up, legs spread to accommodate his body, feet still in the water atop of the seat.
“You’re not too cold?” He made sure to ask, concerned despite being ravenous. You shook your head, desire for him enough despite the night air cooling the water against your skin. Satisfied he immediately dove in, leaning forward to place a kiss against your wetness. You pulsed against the touch, moving back on your elbows to get comfier just as his tongue came out and flicked against your clit. Suddenly you didn’t care that you were outside.
From up here you had a great view of the expanse of his broad, wet back, muscles rippling as he ate you out. You moaned softly, running a hand through his hair, gaze falling to his face. His eyes were closed, water droplets caught in his dark eyebrows and as if he could feel your eyes watching him, he looked up, smirking against you before he sucked the sensitive bud into his mouth, actions growing more eager as he heard you go crazy for it.
He knew your body well, which is why he cruelly held off slipping a finger inside of you. Actually, on second thought, he knew damn well that the second he did so, your orgasm would soon follow. It wasn’t hard to tease your body, to control it how he wanted. As soon as you felt his middle digit push inside, you clenched around it, hips bucking into Seokjin’s face as a stifled cry forced its way out of your mouth. He grunted, inserting another finger, curling and uncurling them as his other hand gripped your hip, trying his best to keep you still. It was no use, you were a woman possessed, pleasure beginning to hurtle through your body at an alarming rate. You stretched out, fingers of one hand sliding along the wood beneath you, desperately trying to cling onto something as you moaned uncontrollably. Seokjin hummed along, encouraging you, coaxing the orgasm through your body. With each wave your breath shuddered harder.
You only started coming to when you felt his fingers slip out of you, his tongue ceasing, mouth now at your inner thigh, kissing you wetly, passionately. Your hands reached for him, wanting him close, but he was already on it, straightening up to meet your mouth. “I need you,” he breathed. You could taste yourself, it was intoxicating. “Here.”
“Here?!” You exclaimed weakly, unfocused eyes trying to concentrate on his face.
He kissed you once more, moaning a little. “Yeah.” His hands wrapped around your hips, lifting you further up the decking before he climbed out of the water and crawled over your body, reaching for something behind you. “Look – let’s use this.” He had a beach towel in his hand, the one you’d left draped over one of the wicker chairs, and he hurriedly laid it out, pressing you into it to kiss you again. His cock was hard and wet, bobbing against your inner thighs.
“Are you sure you’re not cold?” He asked, wet hair now having fallen in his eyes.
You cupped his face, nodding your head as you leaned up. You were still thrumming from your high. “Yes.” Your tongue curled against his open mouth, slipping in to meet his own. The kiss was messy, distracted, as he spread your legs, hooking one up under your thigh.
Breaking away from your mouth, he straightened his back and aligned himself at your entrance, needing no hands he was so erect. You clung to his shoulders, waiting for the first thrust. His skin was still dotted with water droplets. “I’m too impatient, baby,” he told you simply, and then he pushed inside.
Slowly, savouring the feeling of your walls stretching around him, both of you gasping as he bottomed out. With a slow thrust he groaned. “You feel like heaven.” As he leaned in to kiss you, he noticed you trying to hold back a giggle. “What?”
You burst. “That was so cheesy.”
Chuckling, he kissed you again, tips of his ears turning red. “Don’t laugh at me.” You snorted, unable to help it, reaching for him in silent apology, despite laughter still escaping you. “Seriously, stoppp,” he whined, dropping his head.
You grinned. “Or what?”
That got his attention. Looking up, his top lip twitched. His hand cupped your face, thumb brushing over your lips. “I’ll have to teach you a lesson,” he murmured, voice an octave lower. You opened up, sucking the digit into your mouth, looking up at him knowingly. He knew what you were thinking. That didn’t sound so bad.
“My mistake.” He smiled, gaze intense as he pulled away, his thumb leaving you with a silent pop. “You’d love that, wouldn’t you?”
You were seconds away from agreeing but became distracted, watching him lift both legs up by the back of your thighs now, hiking them above his shoulders. He dick slipped so deep you choked, feeling so full you didn’t know what to do.
“S-seokjin,” you panicked, your hands clutching his arms.
He cocked his head to the side, voice soft. “Trust me?”
You nodded, something already so addicting about feeling him inside you like this. You felt beyond sensitive, beginning to tremble as he slowly thrust in and out of you, bringing the tip of his cock almost all the way out before sinking back into your warmth. You moaned out, tears pricking at the corners of your eyes with a pleasure so overwhelming. He sped up, going harder now that he was certain you were enjoying yourself, wet squelches sounding along with your moans and his grunts. You loved watching him fuck you like this, towering down over you, the wet spikes of hair falling down around his face, fucking you with his entire body weight, your ass sliding back and forth against the towel.
However, you also loved kissing him. Holding him as he thrust inside, keeping him to you.
“Seokjin,” you breathed, voice tight, hands reaching for him. He got the message, easing your legs to the ground carefully as he took one of your hands and brought it up to his mouth, kissing it tenderly, your name slipping from his lips, breathless and husky.
He moved closer, capturing your lips eagerly and you hooked your legs around his waist, clinging to the back of his neck in the process as your hips jutted up to meet each roll of his own. You were both panting by now, grunts of exertion slipping from your mouths as you continued to make out. His movements were messier, wet bodies pressed up close, enough to provide enough friction for a second orgasm.
“Ah… I’m close,” he panted, mouth grazing down your throat as he attempted to keep the same momentum.
“M-me too.”
That spurred him on, hips snapping into yours with a cry, newfound determination, lips pressing into yours once more. You came together, out of breath and quite sweaty, but mouths unrelenting. You’d never get enough of kissing him. It was addictive – especially like this.
Spent, he slid out of your dampness naturally, having grown flaccid, kissing you slowly now, indulgently, until he was moving south, capturing your left breast in his mouth, tongue encircling your nipple. You shuddered as he pulled back, one of his hands cupping the right breast to give that a parting kiss too. It wouldn’t be long before you started growing cold, but you were so content here you didn’t care.
Seokjin lifted his head up, gazing straight into your eyes. His were warm and soft, drunk on your beauty (or so he would say). “I want to give you the world,” he breathed, sealing his confession with a press of his mouth.
Your heart swelled, heat prickling your skin and you clung to him. But despite that, you felt the need to joke around. Call it a defence mechanism, who knew. “Men are so weak,” you chuckled, running your fingers through his hair to pull it back, revealing his face again. The tips had already started to dry. “Let them cum inside you and they’re like putty in your hands.”
He laughed too, genuinely amused, but his eyes were still soft and he leaned into your touch, content with the way you held his face now. “I mean it though,” he whispered. “Tell me what you want. Anything. I’ll make it happen.”
You raised an eyebrow. He was being ridiculous, acting drunk. Still, you were pretty simple. You didn’t have many wishes, many dreams. “I want to travel on a plane.”
It was his turn to lift an eyebrow, intrigued. “Like a private jet or?”
“No,” you giggled, “just a plane in general.” You kissed his nose. “You know I’ve never been out of the country before.”
“You want me to take you on vacation?” He hummed, turning suggestive pretty quickly. “A sexcation?”
“Seokjinn,” you whined, dropping your hands from his face.
He nudged his nose against yours playfully. “Well, of course there’ll be sex involved, but,” he grew serious, genuinely interested, “where do you want to go?”
“Hm, anywhere?”
“Anywhere,” he confirmed, adding, “unless it’s another planet, or the moon.”
You smiled, amused, yet deeply preoccupied now. Where did you want to go? What was your dream destination? You’d had one place in mind since you were a child. Running a hand down his bare chest you suddenly felt coy. “I want to visit Paris.”
He grinned. “France, Mademoiselle?”
You matched it. “Oui.”
“Done.” He kissed you, sealing the deal. “Let’s go there tonight.”
You burst out laughing at his idiocy. “I have school. You have work – a daughter!”
He laughed too, but he was distracted, gazing at you tenderly once more. He opened his mouth, about to say something but hesitated. Instead he smiled, nodding his head resolutely. “Okay, soon. Very soon.” He laughed when you squealed in excitement, bringing one of your hands to his lips. “I’m going to take you to the most romantic city on earth, baby.”
.
.
It was Sunday the next day, which meant only one thing. Lazy morning sex. It was his favourite, his time to indulge in all things beautiful and pleasurable he told you. (i.e. You). You’d grown used to his lame lines, he couldn’t help it, and deep down you secretly loved them. A man so shameless with his desire, his devotion. You really had hit the jackpot.
Sundays were also your excuse to just be lazy in general. You usually skipped breakfast in choice of an early lunch, but today you wanted to picnic outside. You knew in a week or so the weather would begin to change more drastically so this was your last chance. You made a reluctant Seokjin get out of bed and shower with you, ignoring his advances as you did so. He was like a dog in heat. Not that you usually complained, but today you really wanted to hit the grocery store before rush hour. Sundays were always busy.
A few hours later you had everything ready, outside in the spot that saw the most sun. It bleated down on you as you kneeled, arranging all the dishes across the blanket you’d placed down across the lawn.
“Oh, shoot. I forgot the salad.” Seokjin realised by the side of you. “I’ll be one sec, honey.” He kissed your cheek as he stood, smacking your ass playfully in the process. “Don’t start without me.”
“What will you do about it?” You called out to him, unable to help it.
“If you’re feeling brave, I guess you’ll find out.” He called back with a laugh, retreating into the house.
A good girl, you waited patiently, but then time started to tick on. One minute, then five… At ten you stood up with a sigh. Where was he? You had visions of the salad bowl on the floor smashed to smithereens. You made your way through the doors that led inside the back of the house. You past his study, calling his name. “Seokjin? Did you get lost?”
You were met with silence, which wasn’t surprising, his home was big after all. Down the corridor, closer to the kitchen you began to hear voices. Seokjin’s familiar rumble, although you couldn’t make it out, and then a louder, unfamiliar voice – female. You followed the sound, realising it was coming from the living room nearest the front door. A sick feeling was slowly creeping its way up your throat, but you didn’t understand why. As you got closer your heart began to race, blood rushing through your ears. There was this sudden feeling of dread. It was so strong you could practically taste it, and you were so frazzled you couldn’t concentrate on the words you were hearing as you rounded the corner of the open door, although you did acknowledge them.
Immediately as you came into view you heard them loud and clear though. Directed at you.
“Oh, and this is her, right?”
They were coming from a woman, her dark eyes piercing into yours. She was beautiful, was your first thought. Tall and slim, with long black hair, so silky she could have come straight from a shampoo commercial. It reminded you of someone. Her hair just as dark and shiny. Arin.
At the thought of the child’s name, you looked down, spotting her beside the stranger, clinging to her hand, eyes wide and shiny with worried tears. Everything clicked into place then. Confusion clearing, yet the sick feeling got stronger. This wasn’t a stranger. It was Arin’s mother. Seokjin’s ex-wife. Nana. And she looked angry.
You glanced around, spotting Seokjin who was looking your way with apologetic eyes. His face looked torn. He murmured your name, stepping towards you, a protective hand reaching for your own. He held it tight, giving you a comforting squeeze. His palm was clammy.
“Yes, here she is!” Nana laughed harshly, needing no reply. It made you wince. Beside you Seokjin groaned quietly, rubbing his free hand across his face before he took a deep breath. As if he was gearing himself up.
You looked at Nana, chest a little tight, something heavy in your stomach. When your eyes locked the corners of her mouth curled upwards.
“The stepmom!” She sneered.

Paraphilia #2: AUTAGONISTOPHILIA; Being on stage or on camera
S P O T L I G H T
"How come he's still in his office... Isn't it Sunday today?" you impatiently whisper to yourself as you turn your face to the calendar that's hanging in the fancy kitchen.
You were right it is Sunday. It's already noon and you haven't seen him yet today. Baekhyun, that is. Your boyfriend. Your incredibly successful but incredibly busy boyfriend but boyfriend nonetheless.
In the quiet of the luxurious house you can hear him speak on the phone. He's probably in a business meeting with some important partners... Yeah they must be really important because he usually always makes sure he saves the Sundays for you.
Baekhyun had always been this way. When you started dating he already was the CEO of Privé. Back then he was already very busy even though it was just a very young brand at the time but it's only gotten worse over the years or better depends on how you look at it...
"The richer, the busier" you say out loud to yourself as you move to the couch of the living room.
You sigh and pull up the cover on your legs as you switch the drama you were watching back on.
Time passes and you are completely caught up in the drama. The romance displayed is very cute and you wish you could be in Baekhyun's arms right now. Then you hear steps in the staircase, you whip your head in its direction and see your boyfriend wearing an expensive and very sleek Armani suit, with his raven black hair brushed back. He impatiently looks at his gold rolex.
His high cheekbones paired with the outfit makes your heart flutter when he appears in front of you. He looks stunning, like a dream.
But something is off about his attitude...
"Are you leaving ?" you ask a tint of sadness underlining your voice.
"Yes I have to... Something came up..." he says fixing a strand of hair in front of the mirror. You bite your lip.
"But... It's Sunday today" You say sulking, giving him puppy eyes
"I know baby but it looks like our website is under a cyber attack and I have to go fix it right now. The banking info of the customers might leak..." his voice is a little harsh and you can't help but to feel hurt by his tone.
"Ok" you say, giving up with a sad smile trying to not let him see how it affected you.
"I'll be back as soon as I can" he says waving in your direction before grabbing the keys of the Audi and walking out the front door...
You sigh once again. And try to forget Baekhyun's harsh tone and furrowed brows... but after a while you realize that you reqlly can't...
You squirm on the couch, working yourself up... The Sundays are supposed to be for you. He employs hundreds of people, couldn't one of them handle the cyber attack? Plus, Baekhyun is an expert in designing styling and marketing but he knows nothing about programming and other geeky stuff you can't even name. Why is his presence mandatory? You know he's the CEO but still... Would Elon Musk run off to the office if Tesla.com was under a cyber attack?
Probably... the voice of reason in your head answers. But you shake your head, chasing away the annoying truth.
You sigh but in annoyance this time. Then an idea blooms into your mind...
"What if... I made him want to get back as soon as possible" you smirk to yourself.
You grab your phone and press record. You perk up your lips and speak in a seductive tone.
"Babe. I miss you so much..." You say as you bring your other hand to your breasts.
"I think I need you right now" You stop the recording and press send before you can change your mind.
You wait for a second and think it's not enough... And to be quite frank, the idea of Baekhyun having to hide his boner at work because of you made you eager for more teasing.
Without even thinking you start to rub yourself between your thighs as you fill the immense living room with very soft moans.
You took your shirt over your head and slided down your pants leaving them on the marble flooring.
You laid on the couch only in your matching navy blue lingerie set. You took your phone back and made another little video for your busy boyfriend.
"Baby come home" you moaned as your fingers played with your bud through the thin lace. You lower the angle to let him see the sexy lingerie set but also where your fingers were. You felt the thrill of doing something so naughty on camera. You bit your lip as you pressed down harder on your core sending electricity throughout your body.
You hit send and drop the phone. You imagine Baekhyun getting these at the board meeting  and secretly stroking himself underneath the table, his dick threatening to rip out of his pants at any time.
Your phone buzzes as you receive a response. You smirk evilly knowing it's your powerful boyfriend being distracted.
"Stop that" he demands.
The smirk only spreads further on your face. You always liked to be a dissident little brat. So you decide to go even further.
You videotape yourself again. This time you slip your hand inside your panties and gasp at the cold sensation of your fingers against your hot folds. You dip them inside your center, moaning shamelessly.
You set your phone to the side and rub yourself over your panties again. You let the room be filled with soft moans and whimpers. Already picturing Baekhyun's clenched fist underneath the meeting table as the shareholders talk to him about the cyber attack. His mind only being preoccupied with your needy moans and sweet dripping pussy.
"Mmmh... Baekhyun... If you want me to stop..." You pump your fingers inside your heat, you feel your walls tighten around them, excited by the thought of being disobedient but also on tape. "Come and make me" you say showing the camera the long strings of juices coating your fingers. Quickly you press send again.
You smirk again as you moan louder, circling your clit through the drenched fabric of your panties.
Then you hear your phone buzz again. You read the text from, you're sure of it, your very angry boyfriend.
"I'm in the car I'll be over in 10 minutes I want to see you in the R-Room"
A huge smile spreads on your lips. You made it, you made your boyfriend return to you. You were so happy you didn't care about the consequences. You happily hopped off the couch and shuffled to the R-Room. You even left behind your clothes, still on the ground , knowing damn well, the mess was going to piss off Baekhyun even further.
You pushed in the door of the R-Room. This room was the only one of the villa that didn't have any windows. It was completely dark. You pushed on the light switch. In the middle was a table, with leather straps at every corner. One camera right over the table, filming it. Another one was on a tripod on the side. And a third one was for the close ups. Because in fact, the "R" stood for "Recording".
In this room,  you and Baekhyun made sextapes. Baekhyun initiated you years ago. Before it felt so wrong and you refused to be filmed from the neck up. You didn't even want to be fully naked. But now, you would simply slip on the black lace rabbit mask and you let Baekhyun bind you and do whatever he pleased to you in front of the camera.
Recently Baekhyun even convinced you to start a livestream show of your escapades. Quickly you two became really popular. Of course, Baekhyun is kind of a public figure due to his job so he never shows his face but you don't mind.
It was the most thrilling feeling. Imagining thousands of strangers touching themselves to you. Suggesting to Baekhyun things to do to you.
You slipped off your bra. You wanted to be nice and ready for Baekhyun when he came back. You put your hair up in a neat bun, even set up the cameras. You're so busy that you don't hear Baekhyun ruffling up the stairs.
He pushes the door open. Making you jump. He's mad sure but he can't help but to smile when he sees you completely naked, already waiting for him. But he doesn't intend on being easy on you, not after what you did.
You stiffen up as you see his smile fade away, walking towards you. He presses his clothed body against your naked one. He takes your chin in his cold slender fingers, forcing you to meet his eyes.
"You think you can make me this mad purposely just to make me fuck you?" You feel your cheeks grow red. "I don't think so missy" He lets go of you and turns around, ready to leave.
No no no, you think. You worked yourself up so much. You knew you were going to get punished but you didn't imagine that... It never crossed your mind that Baekhyun could actually just leave you hanging like this.
"S-should I turn off the c-cameras?" you stutter in a last attempt to make him change his mind. He stops as an even better idea blooms in his mind.
"You know what? No... keep them rolling"
A smile grows on your unsuspecting lips. Baekhyun goes to the laptop and to your different social media platforms where he types a message:
"Surprise live show to punish a disobedient little bunny rabbit"
Within seconds comments start to flow in. People were really excited to get a surprise unscheduled live. And so were you, cause you had no idea what Baekhyun had in store for you.
Baekhyun handed you the familiar bunny ears black mask. Your fingers trailed the lace details before you placed it on.
Baekhyun did some arrangements before switching the live on. The red light of the cameras started to blink and you knew you were on for one hell of a ride.
"All right everybody! Good evening! We are live today" Baekhyun said as the three cameras stared at your naked body.
You saw the first comments on the screen of the laptop.
"Wow already nice and ready"
"Ugh Bunny is so cute"
"I wish I was there to see Bunny irl"
Goosebumps poked up on your bare skin.
"Everyone today Bunny was very naughty and I had to punish her. So, I told myself why not let all of you enjoy it as well. Bunny..." Baekhyun turned to you. "Explain to our friends what you did" You looked up at your pissed off boyfriend.
"I... I disturbed master as he was busy... and was defiant"
"Good girl" Baekhyun caressed your cheek with his thumb.
You read some comments again.
"Oooh Bunny is in trouble hehe"
"Master!! Can't let this flow! gotta show her who's boss"
"Ok, so Bunny" Baekhyun starts "You will start by pleasing master" You looked up at him again you knew exactly what it meant. Baekhyun's hand left your cheeks to press on your shoulder. "On your knees Bunny".
His hand takes a tight hold on your bun as the other one unbuckles his belt and takes out his already rock hard cock.
"Open wide." he says his teeth shining under the indirect spotlight of the dark room.
You open your mouth and Baekhyun doesn't give you time to approach. Instead as soon as your mouth is open he rams his cock inside, hitting the back of your throat right away.  By reflex you want to pull away but his hand around you bun maintains your head right in place.
Right then and there, you finally mesure how mad you have made him. He's never this rough, at least not right at the beginning before you had any chance of teasing him and running his patience thin. But you did all that… just with your videos… Teasing him until he can only process the desire he has for you through rough angry sex.
He starts the thrust himself in your mouth. You gag loudly on his cock, trying to catch a breath, but he doesn't let you.
"Come on, look at the camera, baby. Let them see how pretty you are with my cock down your throat" Baekhyun whispers in a low husky voice. Your tears filled eyes turn to the camera where you have a look at the comments.
"Uh ohhh... Master really IS mad"
"Bunny's mouth must feel so good"
Baekhyun gradually slows down his pace, allowing you to finally breathe. He pops his dick out of your mouth, while you pant. You look back excepting more face fucking but instead Baekhyun is turning the cameras to the table.
Already? you think. But you still get up and walk to the table, quickly checking the comments again.
"Are we bounding Bunny already?"
"Oh yessss!! The fuck-table!!!"
You sat and one after the other, Baekhyun tied your wrists and ankles to the corners of the table with the attached straps. You were now laying there, leg spreads wide, completely exposed to the +15K people that were watching you right now. You bite your lip feeling the familiar thrill swell up in your chest again.
Then Baekhyun approached with the vibrator. He pressed the button and turned it on. The buzzing sounds made you anticipate the feeling of it. You lightly squirm in your restrains. Baekhyun skipped directly to the most powerful setting. You looked at him, he was wearing that same evil smile again...
He places the vibe on your drenched heat. First at your entrance, you gasped loudly. Goosebumps spreading on your skin. With agonizing slowness he brought the vibe to your clit. The incredible speed of the vibrations took you by surprise and you immediately threw your head back, pulling hardly on the straps as unexpected pleasure took possession of you.
Your moans filled the cramped dark room. Tears started to form again, your body didn't know how to react to such an intense and unknown sensation. You felt you juices rundown your legs and coat your thighs.
"Aaaah Master... I'm cumming" you warned Baekhyun and he instantly switched the vibe off. You looked back up at him with pleading eyes, a desperate whimper escaped your lips.
"M-Master p-please" you stuttered.
"Bunny, you really think you can be disobedient like this and expect master to let you cum?" Baekhyun's low voice sent a shiver down your spine. His hands traveled to your folds, slightly playing with your sensitive bud, he coated his fingers with your juices before bringing them to your lips.
"Taste yourself baby" you hungrily sucked his digits, grazing your teeth on them. But he took them back before you were even finished. Your eyes laid on the screen.
"Ohhh Bunny how do you feel?"
"Bunny's desperate moans are the BEST!!"
Again, you heard the buzzing sound of the vibe. Only this time the vibration was really low, barely audible.
You felt the soft vibrations directly on your swollen clit. You didn't even have time to process the feeling that Baekhyun was pushing himself inside your wetness. You moaned loudly as you felt his hot cock stretch you deliciously. When he reached the bottom of you he gently pulled out. He then grabbed a piece of duct tape and secured the vibe on your clit. You moaned again, instantly missing him inside you. But it wasn't for long because he thrusted himself back in with all his might. A strangled moan escaped your lips, Baekhyun chuckled coldly.
"Oops, sorry baby. Had to check if the vibe was well secured... Yeah it didn't move"
Yes, you knew that much as the delicious sensation of the soft vibrations didn't stop for a second.
Soon he started to move at a comfortable pace. His length explored the deepest part of you and you completely lost yourself along the way. Between the vibe and his never ending back and forth your mind went completely blank.
"Look at the camera baby. Show this beautiful expression." Baekhyun's deep voice said.
You looked straight at the camera that was a close up of your face. You looked at the tiny return of the image. Your hair was an absolute mess. Your now loose bun was violently jumping with each of Baekhyun's thruts. Your eyes were fluttering close, rolled back. You looked delighted... and god knows you were. Baekhyun's big bulging cock felt like heaven inside you. You were so so so close to your release. Your toes curled upwards as you felt Baekhyun dig deeper inside you, his hands gripping tightly on your widely open thighs.
"Master, aaaah...  I'm so... aaah... close" you said. But then again. Baekhyun abruptly pulled out of you and switched off the vibe. Leaving your desperate little cunt hungry for more of him. You whimpered and looked at him again.
"Not yet baby" Baekhyun's low voice said. You squirmed, pulling on your restrains, protesting. The comments flew in again.
"No orgasm for Bunny!"
"I bet Bunny really regrets being disobedient now hehe"
You felt tears of frustration form in the corner of your eyes. You looked at your still pissed boyfriend.
"Please Master" you pleaded as you bucked your hips upwards, shamelessly showing him and the viewers your red and completely desperate pussy. Baekhyun chuckled coldly.
"Look at you acting like a bitch in heat, pushing up your swollen little cunt up in the air like this" you felt shame but the straps kept you from closing your legs. You could only whimper and squirm. Baekhyun brought his thumb to your mouth and you immediately sucked on it.
"You want to cum baby girl?" he asked, his voice somewhat softening. You nodded sucking vigorously on his thumb.
"Then fucking beg for it like a proper slut" he said back with his harsh tone, through greeted teeth, popping his finger out of your mouth.
One single tear rolled on your cheek. But you would have done anything. Anything in the world for him to finally let you cum.
"Master, please... I-"
"To the camera baby girl" Baekhyun interrupted you. You turned your head to the close up camera.
"I'm sorry for disobeying my master. I'm sorry for being dissident. I will do everything to make master forgive me." Baekhyun raised an unconvinced eyebrow.
"What do you say everybody?"
Your eyes went to the screen again.
"That was weak!"
"Make her beg again"
"I would just leave her like this tbh"
You turned back to Baekhyun as he smirked again.
"Gotta have to do better than this Bunny" You took a deep breath and looked at the staring camera.
"Please, Master. This bitch is yours. She would do everything to please her master, She really has learned her lesson. If you accept to fuck me more I promise I will make master feel better then ever." That intrigued him.
"What do you think guys?"
"Yes she was good enough. She deserved it."
"#dickforbunny"
Baekhyun then suddenly thrusted inside you. You gasped as the delicious sensation filled your mind again. You missed him so much these past few seconds. Your pussy was tightly gripping around his fat cock. Holding onto it like it was scared to lose it again, suffocating it in the process. And Baekhyun bit his bottom lip as your warmth enveloped him. He grunted loudly, fucking you senseless.
"Aaaah... master it's so fucking good..." you said moaning shamelessly in front of thousands of strangers.
Without a heads up, he switched back on the vibe, all the way up. The vibration was so powerful, that even Baekhyun felt your whole pussy vibrate and twitch around him. Your nails dug in your palms as you felt immense pleasure wash over you.
"I'm cumming master" You screamed, thrashing your head around, unable to contain your orgasm anymore.
"That's right cum for me baby. Cum on this dick" Baekhyun groaned in a low lust filled voice.
And finally you crossed the edge. Your orgasm washed over you, making you completely drunk on the filling as your eyes rolled back while facing the camera. Your eyes could barely read anymore.
"She's cumming like a real slut haha"
"Wow look at her legs shaking"
But then. Baekhyun didn't stop, nor did the vibe.
"Master, please I just came" You cried out as your voice was cut everytime Baekhyun thrusted powerfully inside you.
"Baby girl. Once begging me to continue, now begging to stop? Make up your mind" He grunted still powerfully slamming his length inside you.
You screamed to the sensation of your sensitive clit being over stimulated. Tears started to roll down your cheeks as you continued to shake. Gradually the pleasure took over you again, not asking permission or even announcing itself. It just simply won you over.
Baekhyun and the vibe both forcing you into a second orgasm, even stronger than the first one. You arched your back and pulled hard on the restrains, the leather dug into your skin. You screamed again, completely losing to Baekhyun's fat cock.
Baekhyun continued to thrust inside you until your pussy was throbbing and sucking him in so much that he had no other choice to release his thick cum inside you. Grunting and cursing, indulging himself in the pleasure.
He slowed down his pace gradually as you fell quiet. Completely exhausted from the forced orgasm. Baekhyun pulled out and you felt his juices mixed with yours slowly drip out of you. Your mind felt numb and you weren't even able to process the words your eyes were reading.
"Bunny won't forget that punishment."
"I came so much watching Bunny shake like this"
"Bunny was fucked out of her mind... look at her... fuck so hot!"
"That was the greatest live EVERRRR"
Baekhyun laughed while reading them.
"I'm glad you guys enjoyed. I'll end it now and will put Bunny to bed" he chuckled looking back at you, chest still heaving up and down, glistening with sweat.
Baekhyun picked you up and carried you to your bedroom where you instinctively snuggled under the blanket. You had a content smile plastered on your lips.
"I'm going to disobey everytime now" you said before immediately passing out. Baekhyun just lightly chuckled before laying soft kisses on your forehead.

SUMMARY: Mae has been in love with Draco Malfoy since her first year at Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy fell in love with Mae in their fourth year, and then promptly fell into Pansy’s bed instead. All the while, Mae clings to the hope that Draco will change. That is, until, Ron Weasley takes his chance.
PAIRINGS: toxic!Draco x OC, Ron x OC, Ginny x Luna
!a sprinkle of smut in this chapter!
TRIGGERS: suicidal idealization for a brief moment.
Tumblr media
"What do you feel?" Draco asked her, a smirk on his devilishly handsome face.
"I don't feel anything." she replied emotionlessly, staring blankly at his uncaring eyes.
"Why's that?" he inquired, the smirk not leaving. He asked her this all the time. Every time, she gave him the same reply.
"Because you always do this."
"So leave." Draco snarled, a disgusted look on his face.
"I can't leave you, because I love you." the words hurt, and she briefly shut her eyes as he caressed her jaw with his hand, gently placing his thumb on her full lips, his family ring cool against her skin.
"But I don't." he said the words cruelly, harshly dragging his thumb down her lip and then placing his hand on her throat.
"I know." she acknowledged his cruel words. It was nothing new to her.
He roughly shoved her away from him, his hand jostling her collarbone harshly. He laughed as she flinched, turning away from her. She knew he would turn before he left the door, and he did, coming back to her and pushing her against the wall. He gripped her neck tightly, the metal from his rings pressing painfully on her throat, placing his lips to her ear.
"You would do anything for me." he breathed out, his teeth grazing her lobe.
Draco roughly took her robes off, and she unbuttoned her shirt. He pushed her down onto his bed, their lips mashing together as he roughly gripped her hips, leaving his fingerprints behind. He trailed his lips down her neck, to her breasts where he quickly undid her bra, leaving her exposed as he groped at her skin. She moaned at his touch, which seemed to make him go faster as he quickly slid down her skirt and pumped two of his long fingers deep into her pussy.
Before she was ready, he thrusted his dick inside her, making her gasp at the pain. He had his arms propped up on either side of her head, leaning down to leave marks on her neck as he pumped in and out of her. She moaned loudly as the pain subsided and pleasure took its place.
"You like that, don't you?" Draco muttered breathlessly. "Fifthly little slut."
His breathing became ragged, and with one final hard thrust, he pulled out of her and rolled off the bed. She lay there, regulating her breathing, and shutting her eyes so he didn't see her cry. As usual, it was over as quickly as it had began, and she knew that was because he got all his foreplay done with Pansy fucking Parkinson.
"D'you want me to go now?" she asked quietly, sliding her skirt back on and retrieving her bra.
"Blaise, Crabbe, and Goyle will be back soon, so you'll probably want to be gone." Draco shrugged, putting his clothes back on and fixing his hair.
"Or are you just going to invite Pansy up here later?" she couldn't stop the sarcastic comment from coming out, sliding her shirt on and tucking it into her skirt.
Draco smirked at her. "Maybe."
She felt the tears prick again, and she quickly left his dorm without saying goodbye. After all this time, surely she would have gotten used to the feeling. Surely, she would have stopped caring.
But caring was the only thing she knew how to do. And Draco knew that. Draco was well aware of that.
It had started last year during their third year. She had always had a crush on Draco, and as it had turned out, he had known the whole time. He had love for her at one point, she assured herself, but she just couldn't figure out when the love had faded. Maybe it was last year at the Yule Ball when Pansy's dress sparkled more than hers and Pansy's tits were on full display in her low cut gown.
Maybe it was when they had grown comfortable enough that it could have been mistaken as losing feelings. She had started to see the tender look he would give her fade after the Yule Ball. That was when he began making excuses for why he couldn't study with her, why he wasn't sitting with her at meal times, until eventually she found Draco and Pansy wrapped together on the common room couch.
Perhaps if she hadn't forgiven Draco so quickly, if she hadn't assured Draco that she understood why he cheated, maybe he wouldn't have done it again. She would never forget that glimmer of cocky triumph in his eye when he realized she had forgiven him without a fight.
Sitting on the edge of the balcony in the astronomy tower, she tilted her head to the sky, staring out at the vast spattering of stars. Her dark brown hair tangled in the wind around her, and she couldn't find it in herself to care.
As she thought of that first time she had caught Draco, she laughed bitterly as she recalled he hadn't even apologized. He had simply stared warily at her, gauging her reaction, and when she immediately said she wasn't upset, he had relaxed. Throughout it all, she had been the one to apologize. She had been the one to ask what she could change in order for this to never happen again. She had been the one to promise to do better. All the while he had sat there and planned out the next time he was going to see Pansy.
She knew people were shocked when she and Draco had started dating. It seemed unlikely, the bullying Slytherin prince paired with the unusually kind Slytherin outcast. Before Draco, she hadn't had many friends in her house. She had most of her friends in the other houses, Luna Lovegood and Ginny Weasley being her best ones. Luna had accepted Draco as her boyfriend, while Ginny was thoroughly against it. For a while, they had stopped being friends, only to pick back up after an awkward month of Luna finding the strangest reasons to bring them together. Luna couldn't stand the thought of her best friend and her crush no longer being friends. Through it all, Luna was the only one who knew just how many times Draco had cheated on her.
"My cousin must have an infestation of the nittlebigs," Luna had said loftily, holding her as she cried. "I don't understand why else he would hurt someone as beautiful and kind as you."
Luna never pressured her to break up with Draco, and that was part of why they were so close. She knew that regardless of what she told Luna, Luna would listen and offer judgement free advice. A rather large part of her wanted to carry a mini Luna around in her pocket so that when she was feeling down, Luna would have something rather kind to say or something so odd that it would distract her from her personal woes.
She longed for Luna now, desperately wishing she had a distraction from her mind.
Just jump.. the voice whispered in her head. jump, and you'll no longer feel anything.
The voice was so.. alluring. It was true, if she jumped, she wouldn't have to feel anything. It wasn't that she wanted to die, she just… no longer wanted to feel the constant heavy weight in her chest. The only time she got a reprieve was when Draco would walk in the room on a good day, and give her a smile that reminded her of the boy she fell in love with. The boy she had watched Hermione Granger punch in their third year, the boy who had been full of such cocky and pompous attitude that had ran away crying when someone had actually shown him action instead of talk. Draco was always all talk. Just like when he used to promise her he would be faithful. He no longer did that.
The wind grew stronger as she hoisted herself up on the ledge of the railing. She began walking along it like a balance beam, her arms spread out to keep her balance. The urge to jump became stronger than before, and she focused on keeping her balance so that her intrusive thoughts wouldn't overcome her.
Tears slipped down her cheeks a hole caved through her chest. All she wanted was to be loved.
There were footsteps coming from inside the astronomy tower. She carefully got down from the railing, wiping her cheeks as Ginny Weasley burst through the door with a haggard look on her face.
"Mae, what the bloody hell are you doing here this late at night?" Ginny demanded, her eyes narrowing as she took in her hollow look and wet eyes.
"I could ask you the same." she responded, twirling her wand between her fingers.
"Ron told me they saw you up here," Ginny paused, her frown creasing her forehead. "Figured I would check on you. What the hell happened?"
"Draco and I.. got in a little argument."
"Over what?"
Mae bit her lip. She hadn't wanted to tell Ginny, as she knew that it would be harder for her to keep things together if Ginny knew.
Tell her, the voice whispered. Tell her, because it will be easier.
"He was, erm," she cleared her voice. "Cheating on me with Pansy again."
Ginny's eyes flashed dangerously, and her voice was hard and flat. "Again? How many times has he done this?"
She shrugged. There was no way she would tell Ginny she had kept track of each thirty seven times Draco had cheated on her. "Dunno."
"I'll kill him," said Ginny decisively. "I'll kill the prat."
"No, Ginny please," Mae pleaded, reaching out to grip the Gryffindor's robes. "I'm handling it! I just need to be better."
Ginny's mouth dropped open, and she gave Mae an incredulous look. "Mae, you're not the one at fault here. The slimy git bastard is the one who I should be hexing."
Mae shook her head furiously, tears sliding out. "No, you don't understand, I just need to change. I'm too soft, and he's just doing this so I'll be stronger for whatever is coming next-"
"Don't tell me you believe that rubbish!" Ginny shouted, this time gripping Mae's robes. "You are beautiful, you are smart, you are kind to a bloody fault, you are an amazing friend and I would never say that about any other Slytherin!"
"That doesn't mean I'm perfect!" Mae argued hotly, her frustration and sadness growing. "I may be all of those things, but at the end of it all I love him and I won't ever be good enough for him!"
She ended her shouting with a muttered cry, slumping into Ginny's open arms. "Why am I not good enough?"
"You are good enough, Mae," Ginny rubbed her back consolingly. "It's him who's not."
"That's the problem though, isn't it?" whispered Mae into Ginny's robes. "Everyone thinks he has no good, but me. I know he's good. He just needs to find himself again."
"You can't save everyone," replied Ginny softly, pulling away and cupping Mae's face with her hands. "You will wake up one day, and realize you've had enough. You're too young to have your life tied together with someone who will never see your worth."
Mae shrugged. This was why she was hesitant to tell Ginny. She knew that the wise witch would say something so absolutely truthful and clever that it would make her think of her situation in a different light.
"I think I need to sleep now."
Together they walked back through the castle, splitting apart for Mae to head downstairs to the Slytherin common room. She trudged her feet along, taking her time as she entered the thick door. Upon entering, she headed straight to her room she shared with Astoria and Daphne Greengrass, and Marissa Blackwoods. The other girls were fast asleep, Daphne's loud snoring filling the air, and Mae found it easy to settle in her bed. What she found difficult was attempting to sleep
Ginny's words kept spinning around her head. You'll wake up one day, and realize you've had enough. The only problem was, Mae couldn't imagine her life without Draco. Sure, he made her upset and made her not like her life. But he was comforting in the sense that he was familiar, she had spent nearly three years with him. That was such a long time, could she really give all that up just on the off chance that she would be happier without him?
One day, you'll realize you've had enough.

WIP Wednesday! Here's some bits from WIPs that I can share!
First, a prompt fic (Sharing Songs) that is also a continuation of another fic (Sharing Stories):
“Pick something you like.”
“That’s a problem.” Eddie starts flipping through his modest vinyl collection. All that remains are his absolute favorites, the rest had been sold shortly before his run in with Venom. “I like them all.”
“Then pick the best one.” They reach forward with a tendril and Eddie cups it in his hand. It’s not that Venom wouldn’t be careful, but they have a hard time judging their strength against objects they’ve never handled.
“So impatient,” Eddie grouses as he flips through his singles with his unoccupied hand until he comes upon one near the back. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. A song that is embedded into the cultural consciousness of most of the English speaking world and notable for its multiple, unique sections. Perfect for introducing an alien to a range of music.
Second, something from that reluctant god, Eddie Brock comics fic. Please enjoy an OC symbiote discovering the existence of honeycrisp apples:
It intends to head to the new god as soon as it has gotten its bearings, but the forest it has landed in distracts it. The trees are all the same species, all planted in rows, all equidistant from each other. It is an artificial forest, it realizes, and then it sees the fruits.
The fruits are amazing. They are bright and colorful, pale yellow covered in enough streaks and speckles of bright red to make a solid color over the yellow. In its mouth they are dense and crisp and the skin is just present enough to feel as its teeth cut through the flesh. Seeds in the fruit's core crunch and snap in its mouth. Then it notices the sugars against its tongue and it shifts the receptors there to taste more than just the chemo-signals of close range communication. Sweetness bursts as it bites and the juices run out of its mouth and down its front where it absorbs the excess.
Absolutely delicious! The best possible thing for its first meal beyond the old god’s grasp!
It knows it should find the new god, but its journey has been nothing but denial of its wants. It can have this one small thing. This one small treat.
So it eats. It gorges itself. It ignores the lifeforms around it–humans the hive mind knows–and it wanders the artificial forest as time passes and the quality of light around it shifts.
“Well at least you’re having fun.”
The words draw it out of its indulgences, and it turns to see one of the old god’s dragons condensed into the shape of a human.
Third, a little bit from a fic prompted by @ihasafandom (I'm working on it, but slowly!) involving queerplatonic partners Eddie and Venom figuring out sexual stuff, because it's something they want to share. There is, of course, a bit of confusion while they try to get on the same page:
The trust in Eddie’s memory was different than the kind Venom knew. More blind than what Eddie had with it, and less certain than what it had with Eddie. But the trust in Eddie’s memory was strong in a foreign way because of those differences. As different as that trust was, it still formed a bond. A companionship of two, however human it may have been.
Venom could understand Eddie’s hesitation, but the idea was enough to make it curious. What would it feel like for them together to form a bond with another human?
“Who would we have sex with?” It asked when its attention surfaced.
“You don’t– I–” Eddie sputtered while his hands came to a halt on the plate he had gotten half clean, “...what?”
“Was that meant to be hypothetical?”
“No, yes, but–” still holding the plate, Eddie turned to face Venom. “Why would we have sex with someone else?”
Finally, something from Room to Stomp and Shout (aka: the fic without a deadline), a fic I have given many glimpses of:
It’s dark outside now and none of the lights are on in the apartment. Venom must have moved them at some point because they’re in bed now, curled on their side under the covers with their clawed hands clutched loosely in front of their face. Venom isn’t holding them still any more, so Eddie stands in a motion so fluid that he knows it’s not just his own eagerness driving them.
We need a hunting ground. Venom’s words grind him to a halt before he can reach the door.
He grits their fangs in his mouth, frustrated with himself and Venom and the whole situation. It’s not right that their symbiosis is going wrong after they’ve worked so hard to figure out their needs. They know what to eat now, what they need, how to live around each other, live with each other. They both want this to work. So why isn’t it?
“Not in the city,” Eddie insists. He knows—knows–that he shouldn’t need to specify, but he’s awake and scared and frustrated and everything feels uncertain.
Of course. They prickle and build over his spine and his shoulders and the backs of his arms. But where is a place we can hunt and not worry?
Ask me questions about any of these if you want!

Chapter 47

April 2022
By the fourth anniversary of the Snap, it finally looked like society was moving on. There was still a lot to do, but most schools and Universities were fully functioning, TV shows and Movies were back in production, restaurants and shops seemed to have gotten back to some level of ‘normality’. Whilst places weren’t as buzzing as they had been, it seemed like people were finally taking those baby steps forward, which was the mantra Steve continued to preach at his support groups.
If only it was that easy to follow your own advice.
Steve, and the rest of those of them who had fought Thanos and been spared, would be lying if they said their failure wasn’t still at the back of their minds. But nothing short of a time machine was going to bring any of those stones back. They had to learn to live with it, and for the most they did, their lives had moved on. Tony, Pepper, Steve and Katie had become parents, so they had something to focus on. Natasha, however, was all over the place, focussing even more with Rhodey on trying to track down Clint, the archer having given his vigilante alter-ego a name- Ronin-the word taken to be an idiomatic expression for “vagrant” or “wandering man”, someone who is without a home- or so Katie’s research told them.
‘Ronin’, was still leaving trails of death and destruction all over the place and both Steve and Katie had tried to coax Natasha out of pursuing him too much. As usual, she completely ignored them and had also point blank refused to attend any of the support groups. In the end Steve had stopped asking.
He and Katie found most of their time taken up dealing with Jamie who had entered what the parents now knew why everyone dubbed the terrible twos. He was a nightmare, not necessarily due to bad behaviour but he was so boisterous and such a rough and tumble little boy thanks to the half of him that held the super serum and he was ridiculously clever too. He was constantly up to mischief, which was why now, one Thursday morning Steve was stood in the kitchen, an equal mixture of exasperation and fear flooding his system as he gazed up at his son who was once again sat on top of their large stainless steel fridge freezer, about a foot out of his dad’s reach. This was his favourite activity at the moment and neither Steve nor Katie had no idea how he kept getting up there.
The soldier was currently torn between grabbing a chair to climb up to get him down and being rooted to the spot, not wanting to move in case the tot threw himself off which he was prone to doing.
“Jamie, please come on.” Steve sighed.
“No.” “I’ll give you a cookie if you get down.” Steve pleaded, cursing inwardly at the fact he was resorting to bribery. Jamie cocked his head to one side, clearly weighing up his options and then his face split into a grin.
“Nom!” He grinned and then in a flash launched himself forward.
“Fuck.” Steve cursed, forgetting his language as he stepped back, catching the toddler in his arms, heart in his mouth. Jamie giggled as his dad’s strong arms caught him.
“Don’t do that!” Steve sighed. “Please.” He added weakly.
“Fuck.” Jamie repeated with a laugh and Steve groaned.
“No, we don’t say that.” “Why?”
“It’s a bad word.” Steve explained setting him on the counter in front of him. “Only momma and daddy can say that. And even then we shouldn’t.”  He reached for the kitchen cupboard, undoing the child lock before he grabbed the jar and held out a cookie for Jamie.
“Fankoo, Daddy”
“You’re welcome, but that doesn’t mean every time you climb something you get one.” Steve looked at him sternly.
Jamie stared back at him, his mouth full and Steve knew they boy didn’t care one iota about the utter horror he had just put him through. A fact further emphasised when the tot raised his right hand and held his forefinger and middle finger to his eyes, moving them towards his dad.
“Yeah, I am watching you, pal.” Steve arched an eyebrow at him, mentally cursing Tony once again for teaching his son ridiculous habits. “You done?”
Jamie nodded. “More?” “Not a chance.” Steve snorted, lifting him down off the counter and herding him into the living room where he distracted his boy successfully for an hour and a half or so watching Frozen, his current favourite Disney film whilst he checked over his notes for the support groups he was holding later on that afternoon. Then he gave Jamie his lunch, meals being the most painless part of his routine as the kid ate anything you put in front of him, and they set off to meet Katie at the tower.
“Hi Mr Rogers, Hi Jamie!” Soraya, Katie’s PA, greeted them holding up her hand. Jamie leant over the desk in his father’s arms and gave her a hi-five.
“Hi, Sowaya!” He beamed and she smiled back before she turned to Steve. “She’s in the office but you might wanna wait a few seconds before you go in.” Steve was about to ask why, when he heard his wife’s angry voice through the closed door and he grimaced. Someone was getting an absolute earful and he didn’t envy them one bit.
That someone, was Jack Thompson, Katie’s Finance Manager. As part of Stark Industries programme to help orphaned older teenagers post the snap, Katie had given the go head for each major department to recruit interns to give them a spring start and a means to fund themselves. Only for the third day in a row now she had caught Jack ordering his intern to make coffees for the entire office. Not that it wasn’t part of an intern’s initiation, she understood that, but when she had drilled the girl a little more, it seems that was all she was doing, along with photocopying.
“That is not what the programme is about!” She blazed as she leant forward over her desk, Jack lounging in the chair at the other side. He raised an eyebrow at her and that made her bristle even more. “Sorry, I’m not sure what is amusing you about this situation.”
“Nothing, Mrs Rogers.” He shrugged back. “I just think you’re overacting slightly.” “Oh do you?” She asked, her voice raising further. “Well here’s an overreaction for you, you get that girl some proper jobs and activities to work on or you’ll be out of here faster than my two year old can scale the fridge.” Jack frowned
“Which is fast” Katie clarified, realising that there were all sorts of things wrong with that analogy.
“Things were a lot different with your brother at the helm.” Jack looked at her. Katie crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him.
“Well I’m not my brother. If you don’t like it, feel free to leave your resignation letter on my desk.”
Jack eyeballed her for a moment before he nodded. “Understood, loud and clear.” “Good.” She stood up whilst he did the same and she smoothed down her white A-lined high wasted skirt and white blouse. Her black stilettoes clicked on the wooden flooring of her office and she opened the door, nodding out of it. Jack left, not even glancing around until a small voice rang out across the room.
“Momma shouted!” Jamie giggled gleefully. Jack stopped, looked at the boy, then to Steve who simply smiled at the man before he stalked away.
“Jerk.” Katie mumbled under her breath before she beamed at her boys. “Hi!”
“HI Momma!” Jamie grinned, wriggling until Steve popped him down and he ran to his mom to give her a hug. Steve had a split second to perve on his wife, because damned she looked good in that office outfit, before Jamie was in her arms, his mom not caring if his shoes or hands were going to dirty her clothes. She placed a kiss to his cheek as Steve walked towards her dropping one of his own onto her lips.
“Yuk!” Jamie pulled a face.
“So what had he done to earn himself the full wrath of my baby momma?” Steve jerked his head towards the door and Katie groaned.
“Just being awkward when it comes to the interns. I don’t think he’s going to last much longer.” “Good.” Soraya shot. “He’s a creep.”
Katie grinned. “So you tell me.”
Soraya shrugged. “I’m not the only one who thinks so.”
“Hmm.” Katie pondered, before she shrugged. “What’s my diary like for the rest of the day?”
“You’re clear now until four and then you have a conference call with a couple of potential authors for SIP.”
“Why don’t you do it from home?” Steve looked at her. “You were here at seven this morning.” Katie pondered before nodding. Placing Jamie on the floor she headed back into her office and grabbed her jacket and her bag, before linking her hand round her son’s.
“If anyone needs me, can you tell them to email or call my mobile, please?”
Soraya nodded “See you tomorrow, Mrs Rogers. Bye Captain, bye Jamie!”
“Bye bye!” Jamie waved as Katie led him to the elevator, Steve holding his other hand.
“You had lunch?” Steve looked over at her and she shook her head.
“It’s been manic.”
“Good, because neither have I. Thought we could grab something before I head off to the group.”
Katie grinned and leaned up to give him a kiss. “Perfect.” “Lunch?” Jamie piped up and Steve looked down at him.
“Buddy, you ate an entire bowl of spaghetti at home.” “But, I’m hungry.” He pouted and Katie looked at Steve.
“He gets that off you.” She smirked and Steve rolled his eyes.
“Who does he get climbing the fridge off?” He asked.
“Again?”
“Yeah, had to bribe him down with a cookie.”
Katie snorted. “Well I don’t know about the climbing bit but he definitely gets the negotiation skills from me”
“It wasn’t a negotiation.” Steve scoffed, as the doors opened on the ground floor “It was out and out extortion.”
Katie laughed as they stepped out into the reception, heading to the front doors which opened automatically.
“Let’s go to the deli round the corner.” She suggested and Steve nodded, positioning himself on the outside of the sidewalk as always, Jamie on the inside of his two parents as they slowed their pace to allow their son to walk the block or so round the corner.
“Momma?” He asked tugging on hand. “Yes baby?” “I haff tuna?”
“If you want tuna, yeah.”
At that point Steve, who had been watching the two of them, turned and almost walked straight into another pedestrian.
“Oh, sorry Ma’am.” He nodded to her at the same time Jamie uttered.
“Fuck.” Katie stopped dead and turned to look down at him, her voice growing stern. “James Anthony Samuel Rogers, what did you just say?”
He blinked up at her as Steve groaned, crouching down in front of his son. “I told you that was a bad word.” He softly chastised the two year old.
“Sowee Momma,Sowee daddy.” Jamie’s eyes looking down at his feet as he toed the sidewalk slightly with his little sneakers.
“Thank you for apologising.” Steve ruffled his hair as he stood up. “Don’t say it again.” “Okay.” “Where did he hear that?” Katie looked accusingly at Steve and he hesitated for a moment.
“Tony?” He shrugged, a sheepish smile crossing his face as he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.
Katie narrowed her eyes. “You’re still a terrible liar.”

June 2022
“Now don’t go mad Spangles.” Tony immediately greeted Steve as he shut the car door and headed across the lawn area to the side of the lake house. Instantly Steve narrowed his eyes.
“What have you done?” He asked, following Tony down a well-trodden path to the back of the house where a small play tent was erected.
“Nothing.” Tony shrugged, as Steve followed him round to the back of the house. “Well, nothing bad, just…”
“Stop, or I’ll shoot!” Steve heard Morgan speak before she popped her head out of the tent, and held her left hand out in front of her. She was wearing a red glove with some form of battery powered light strapped to the palm. Before Steve could comment, Jamie followed, the same item on his right.
“Pew pew!” He grinned, making the noise at his dad. Steve took a deep breath and scowled at Tony.
“Really?”
“Hey look, it was this or the actual gauntlets so,” he shrugged and then Steve really did give him a glare. Tony held his hands up. “I was in the garage tinkering and they saw them and wanted one of their own so…”
“Iron Man!” Jamie grinned up at his dad “Look Daddy, like Unca Nee!”
“And I suppose those just have to come back to my house with the pair of them tonight?” Steve narrowed his eyes at Tony. “You know, I can always refuse to babysit.”
“Err, no you can’t.” Tony smirked. “First off we had Jamie last night so you and Katie could have a night alone, and second off…” “Uncle Pangles!” Morgan threw herself at him, her arms wrapping around his legs. “We can play tonight, I stay at yours!”
“…you can’t resist her Stark charm.” Tony smirked as Steve sighed, bending down to give his niece a kiss on the head.
Katie tried not to laugh at the look on Steve’s face as he recounted the incident later that evening as they sat out in the back round the fire pit torching S’mores with Emmy. Jamie and Morgan were fast asleep in Jamie’s room.
“Well Dad,” Emmy sat back and looked at him, her brown eyes flashing with mischief, “sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire…”
“What you got in mind?” He looked at her.
“We’re pretty good at art, right?” She shrugged and Steve nodded. “Let’s put it to use.”
So the next morning, as soon as the hardware shop opened, Emmy and Steve were in there gathering supplies for the Great Rogers Revenge plan, sharing a victorious hi-five whilst they loaded the trunk of the car up with their ammo. Katie told them she didn’t want to know what they were planning and she meant it, steering clear of Steve’s man-cave for the rest of the morning, calling them back to the house at eleven ish for a coffee and a slice of banana bread when Natasha dropped in. The two women could hear Steve and Emmy sniggering as they approached and when they walked into the kitchen, Katie was greeted by the pair of them holding up their finished items.
“Oh my God!” Natasha spluttered. There was a slight pause, before Katie cracked up laughing as Steve and Emmy held up their masterpieces. They had painted the insides of two small metal trash can lids to look like replicas of Steve’s shield.
“I got the idea from a picture in my history books.” Emmy said, grinning “Some young kids in a Brooklyn street after the war, playing with the lids like they were shields…” “Perfect handles to hold them with, look.” Steve grinned, flipping his round “And they’re spray varnished too so the paint won’t rub off.”
“Cap!” Jamie shrieked as the sight of the items Steve and Emmy were holding.
“Wow!” Morgan looked up in awe “Is one for me?” “Sure is, Moo.” Steve bent down and showed the two children how to grab the shield with their hands on the handles and, once he was confident they had got it, they shot out of the back door and down onto the grass, Lucky leaping up from where he had been snoozing under a tree and heading inside out of the way.
“Just do me a favour and don’t show teach ‘em to throw them.” Katie sighed, watching as Jamie was busy holding his shield in front of him as Morgan aimed her faker repulsor beam clad hand at him.
Steve shook his head, grabbing a piece of cake. “No point, we tried and it doesn’t work. They don’t have the same weight or trajectory.”
“Yeah, they just kinda hover for a bit and then fall down.” Emmy shrugged, her mouth full of banana bread. “This is good, mom.”
“Thanks.” Katie smiled “Nat you want another piece?”
“No thanks.” she shook her head, “don’t wanna ruin our lunch.” “Lunch?” Steve paused, the slice of cake halfway to his mouth.
“I told you last night,” Katie rolled her eyes, “me and Nat are off for lunch and shopping.”
“You wanna come Em?” Nat asked.
“Nope.” She shook her head. “I wanna be here when Uncle Tony picks these two up.”
She fist bumped Steve and Katie shook her head at the pair of them.
“Well, I do not. Gimme two mins Nat and I’ll grab my shoes.”
**** “So, Steve and I are taking the kids away in a month or so, why don’t you come with us?” Katie asked as they sat in a small tapas bar, just off Times Square. Nat pondered for a while before she shook her head.
“I can’t leave the compound.”
“Why not?” “If something goes wrong, I need to be there.” “Nat,” Katie sighed, “it isn’t your responsibility. The Avengers, we’re not…” Natasha cut her off, “Don’t, please,” she shook her head, “it’s my job. If I can help in even the smallest of ways then I should.” Katie bit her lip before she reached over for her glass of water. She understood that in all fairness, Steve had gone through his own phase of feeling useless not long after the snap but had found his niche for sure with the support groups. If this was how Nat was dealing with it then…
“Anyway, enough about that.” Nat changed the subject. “Tell me more about the delightful language my God-Son has been learning.” Katie groaned. “Did I tell you about the whole, oh Fuck thing a few months back?” “Yeah.”
“Well a few nights ago we’re sat at the table and he suddenly shouts ‘Daddy, fuck.’ So, of course Steve tells him off. But he doesn’t stop. ‘Momma, fuck, Emmy, fuck…’ and Steve’s getting more and more exasperated, trying to tell him to stop, and wasn’t until Jamie pointed to the table and shouts ‘need fuck’ we realised he wanted a fork for his pasta and not the spoon we had given him.” Katie grinned as Natasha laughed. “Honestly Nat, I thought Steve was gonna have a heart attack.”
“Yeah he doesn’t like that kinda language.” Natasha grinned biting into a breadstick.
“I wouldn’t mind but he taught Jamie that word, not intentionally of course. And then there was the jackass incident.”
“What?”
“Someone pulled out in front of me at a junction. I forgot he was in the car so I slammed on the horn and flipped him off shouting ‘jackass’ out the window.” Katie took another drink of her water “Didn’t think anything of it until we were leaving Tony’s later that afternoon. I wound the back windows down in the car so Jamie could wave. Only he doesn’t wave, he raises his middle finger and calls Tony a jackass”
Natasha laughed. “Well, he’s not wrong.”
“Funnily enough that’s what Steve said.” Katie grinned. “Mind you, what he did at the supermarket the other day tops it all.” She took a bite of her garlic mushrooms. “He’s sat in the trolley and loud as you like shouts ‘I got a woody in my pants’. The woman in the aisle next to us just looks at us and Steve starts trying to explain that he was wearing Toy Story underpants, I mean…”
Natasha spluttered out her calamari, choking slightly as she started to laugh, Katie grinned before she too chuckled. It was funny now she thought about it. Tto be honest Katie had found it funny at the time, Steve was the one that had flushed bright red. At that point her phone began to ring and she fished it out of her bag.
“Uh oh.” She winced and looked at Nat
“Stark?”
She nodded “Hi Tone…” “Oh don’t hi Tone me,” his voice hit her ears, “your husband is a grade A…”
“I hope you don’t have Morgan in the car whilst you’re being so angry.” Katie jokingly chastised her brother
“A trash can lid. A god-damned trashcan lid.” “Yeah well you send our kid home with some of your shit, we’re gonna repay the favour, now if you don’t mind…”
She cut the call and saw that she had a message from Steve.
Game, set and match to Spangles ;-)
She snorted.
“Are they ever gonna stop this tit for tat with the kids?” Natasha asked.
Katie shook her head, smiling. In all honesty she kind of liked the friendly little feud they had going. It was all good natured, and she enjoyed the closeness of her family.  “Nope. Sometimes I forget exactly who the kids are. The pair of them act worse than two year olds.”
******
August 2022
“Did Em tell you about the bloke at the harbour?” Steve asked, looking at Katie. The two of them were sat on the veranda of the villa on Tony’s Island. It was the last night of their two week vacation and the family had spent the time playing in the pool, on the beach- Emmy and Jamie scouring the sand for shells and other mementoes to bring home. Jamie had been particularly taken with watching the fishing boats as they left and returned from the small harbour, Steve often taking him and Emmy down to watch when they brought back their catches of the day, the small boy engaging as enthusiastically and as well he could with his two-year-old vocabulary and the locals had been nothing but gracious and kind back to him and his older sibling.
Katie suspected it was for that reason that they had returned earlier that night with a selection of seafood which Katie had enjoyed preparing for them, along with numerous salads, potatoes and some local fruits for afters. The four had gorged themselves and the kids, after no protest at all due to them being exhausted, were now tucked up in bed leaving the married couple to take in their last night alone.
“No?” Katie looked at Steve.
“He kept asking me how much I wanted for her.” Steve smirked and Katie laughed. “She thought it was hilarious too, until I offered to sell her for three lobsters and a couple mahi-mahi.”
“Oh I bet she loved that.” Katie looked at him, as he shrugged, drinking from his beer bottle. “Mind you, it is kinda freaky, just how much she’s grown. I mean she’s fifteen this October.” “Tell me about it.” Steve grumbled “We got all that stuff to come yet.” “What stuff?” Katie asked, eyeing him over her wine glass.
“You know,” he waved the hand that was clutching his beer, “boys and…whatever.” Katie snorted. “What you gonna do when she does finally bring a boy back to meet us?” She asked, swinging her bare legs up and placing her feet in his lap.
“Be waiting with a shot gun.” Steve grumbled, his spare hand dropping to her smooth skin, fingers gently tracing up and down her calf.
“That’s a dramatic shovel talk.” Katie raised an eyebrow at him.
“Oh I won’t talk. Just hold it across my lap and look at him.” “You’re terrible.” Katie sniggered as his hand gently continued its ministrations on her leg.
Steve chuckled and Katie glanced out over the bay, sighing slightly It had been a great few weeks, just one person really missing.
“I wish Nat would have come.”
“She’s worrying me,” Steve sighed. “It’s not healthy, being cooped up in that place, alone.”
“I know.”  Katie nodded. “But there’s not much we can do other than be there for her.”
Steve took a breath, laying his head back against his chair as the warm sea breeze hit them. Katie glanced over at where he was sat, his skin slightly more tanned, the freckles that sprang over his nose during the summer were now even more pronounced although they couldn’t rival hers. His hair had been cropped short again, and he’d even sprouted the thin smattering of a beard over the last two weeks, although he’d told Katie sternly he wasn’t growing it out again.
“I’m Captain America at those support groups, and he doesn’t have a beard.”
As Katie drank him in she noticed that over the years, whilst he had aged slightly, he hadn’t changed nearly as much as she had. All the studies, backed up by Banner’s research, estimated that Steve would age at a rate approximately fifteen to twenty years younger than the average person. At some points this worried her, as she knew that in fifteen years or so he would only look to be in his late thirties when they would both be realistically, going off the years spent living and not buried in ice, midway through their fifties, but that was something she’d known before she had married him.
And she supposed that as long as he didn’t care how old she looked it didn’t matter.
“Want a photo or summi’k” Steve asked, his eyes on his wife, as she was simply looking at him, clearly contemplating something. She smiled at the way his Brooklyn drawl dripped off his voice as it always did when he was relaxed. He cocked his head slightly to one side, smiling gently at her as his beer bottle rest against his leg. Deciding she wanted distracting from the ridiculous worry that had sprung up on her, she grinned and moved her feet before she stood up. Taking the bottle off him she placed it on the table and settled on his lap, her knees either side of his thighs, as he smirked up at her.
“Summik sounds good.” She muttered kissing him hard. Their tongues began their usual dance until he pulled back and looked at her, sweeping her hair off her face. Simply put, in his eyes, his wife was stunning. Her freckles which always became more pronounced in the sun spread across her nose and her cheeks, giving her an even more youthful look than normal. Her hair was now a few inches above her waist, having grown down from the shoulder length cut she had sported whilst they’d been on the run and was falling over her face in a mass of beach tangled curls, which Steve adored. Her figure, Jesus, he could look at her all day, curves across her hips, breasts…he’d been exceptionally pleased that, despite her confidence issues over her body not being what it used to be, she’d been wearing a two-piece swimsuit, even if it was one that covered her midriff. He knew better now that to try and argue that he didn’t give a damned about the fact her stomach was slightly less flat than it used to be, or her hips were wider, Steve simply let her get on with dressing how she felt comfortable and lavished affection and praise on her every chance he got, because frankly, there wasn’t a think about his wife he didn’t adore.
He questioned every, single day how he had gotten so goddamned lucky and it had been him she’d chosen to spend the rest of her life with.
“What’s wrong?” She frowned, noticing the contemplative look in his eyes.
“Nothing at all, Baby.” He shook his head, reaching down and pulling off the crochet dress she was wearing over her swim suit top and denim shorts. “Just thinking about how I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you look so beautiful.” She grinned as his fingers moved to undo the string that held her top around her neck, causing it to fall forward leading her bare from the waist up. He simply admired her for a moment as her hands wound into his hair and she gave a soft tug, causing his head to tilt upwards to look at her. “Not even when we got married?”
“Hmmm.” He contemplated, her lips hovering near his as she leant down, his hands creeping up her sides. “Maybe, but you weren’t my baby momma then.”
Katie grinned, she loved it when he called her that. Gently kissing him she pulled back and looked at him. “I’ve not changed that much have I?” She teased as she pushed down on his crotch and he groaned.
“Nope,” he muttered before kissing her hard, grinding his hips up against hers.
“Take me to bed Captain.” She murmured into his mouth, at him with suggestive eyes which peered from underneath heavy lids.
“Yes ma’am” he grinned, and in a swoop he’d picked her up and carried her inside.

Chapter Two: The Question
Din Djarin did not have a Match.
Din Djarin did not have a Match.
He couldn’t.
How, why didn’t matter…
He just couldn’t.
Right?
This Woman with a small dark spot high on her cheekbone and finely calloused hands and wearing his shirt couldn’t be his Match.
She just… couldn’t.
It was just coincidence that he was pulled into her orbit, like a comet desperately seeking gravitational equilibrium.
And it was coincidence that she apparently felt the same. Even foggy as she was.
She still had not said a word, did not reply or even react when addressed, but she always floated in Din’s direction when he stepped away.
Which wasn’t very often.
The urge, or ‘bond’ as the Armorer called it, was only satisfied if she was near.
The pair of them were something of a side-show in the covert for the evening.
Even through beskar and dark visors, gazes felt heavy on Din’s shoulders.
Outside the covert, curiosity – whether hostile or benign – was expected.
But here? Never before.
He thought about leaving. But as confused as she was, dragging her, barefoot, back through the streets of Nevarro, even just to the ship seemed unwise.
So Din found a spare room in the covert–The Woman following in his wake, fingers still threaded with his.
It was barely more than a door and two stone benches that could pass for beds if needed. But solitude was necessary for his kind.
He found himself hoping she’d speak once they were alone.
She didn’t.
But she did grow tired before too long. Not surprising given her recent clinic visit.
“You can sleep here,” he said, gesturing to one of the benches embedded in the wall.
She did not reply. Or move.
He was not used to being the verbose one.
“Here.” He offered her his cape, threadbare at the bottom but warm enough. She took it, thumbs brushing across the fabric.
Nodding once, he moved for the door.
She followed.
“You need to sleep. I’ll be outside.”
He stepped back and she stepped forward.
“No–” he huffed in minor annoyance. Turning her around by the shoulders, he guided her to one of the benches and sat her down. Gently by firmly. “Sleep. ...Please.”
He stepped back once. Twice. She didn’t move.
On the third step, she made to rise, but his hand outstretched stopped her.
He at least made it to the door before she stood back up.
He surrendered with a sigh. “Fine. I’ll stay here.” Sitting down on the opposite bench from her. “Satisfied?”
She apparently wasn’t as she drifted to sit on the bench, hand fitting into his as she curled up next to him.
A beskar pauldron couldn’t have been a comfortable pillow, but it might as well have been down-filled silk for as quickly as she dropped off.
He waited an hour, then two, just to be absolutely certain she was completely asleep, listening to her gentle breathing turn deeper and slower. Then he eased her off his shoulder to lie down, leaving his cape for her blanket.
She didn’t stir as he headed to leave the room, the door hissing open in front of him.
Stay.
A fist pressed to the front of his helmet for a minute in frustration.
Stay.
There’d be no peace if he resisted.
So he sat down in the furthest corner of the room from her, tipping his helmet back to rest in the crook of the walls.
Her sleeping form was the last thing he saw as his eyes drifted shut.
But when they opened a few hours later, the bench was empty.
His head jerked up only to realize that The Woman had simply moved.
Her head now rested on his collarbone, his arm wrapped around her, her hand clasped in his, pressed tight to his cuirass.
Something high in his chest cracked, fissures reaching magma flow far below, and his next breath quaked.
Beskar cautiously pressed to the top of her hair was not perfect, not even ideal.
But the alternative was terrifying.
The next morning dawned and The Woman still had not spoken, still drifted in a haze where Din was her only heading.
“I don’t know what to do with her,” he said, in the early afternoon, back in the Armorer’s forge.
This time with The Woman at his side, hand in his as always.
“I have work to do.”
“Take her with you,” the Armorer replied.
“I can’t do that.” His work was dangerous enough without spacey tag-alongs who did not listen to reason.
“She won’t be happy to stay here. And neither will you.”
Silence seemed the better reply than admitting how correct she was.
“Can you keep her here while I get supplies?”
“Yes.”
Din was never a meandering purchaser, but it was perhaps the shortest supply run he’d ever made. And that was with the addition of finding clothes and shoes he hoped would fit her.
Karga even made mention that he ‘seemed awfully anxious to get going’. But he coughed up four new pucks after a solid minute of silence.
The Woman was waiting at the western entrance of the covert when he returned and followed along happily back to The Razor Crest, now dressed in nondescript pants and tunic that suited the weather.
He set her down in the co-pilot’s seat and started the engines. Cleared for take off. Coordinates plotted. But first––
Turning back to face her, she looked his way, eyes still distant. “If you want to be taken somewhere, just tell me.”
As if that diffused the uneasy energy of leaving a planet with her.
Again.
She seemed entranced by the pulsing blur of hyperspace, eyes wide and unmoving from the windows.
Seeing as there was just one bed aboard, it made sense to sleep in shifts.
Though every time, he woke to her sitting at the cabinet opening, holding his hand.
He really couldn’t bring himself to mind.
He’d never had many passengers aboard his ship before, at least ones not stored in carbonite. But when he had, they felt like an intrusion. Something to be stepped around and removed at the soonest possibility.
It made very little sense why The Woman didn’t fall into the same category.
The first quarry was on Felucia. Seemed a group of bandits had been making life difficult for the local villages, difficult enough to pay Guild rates to have the base cleared out and the leader brought back in carbonite, ideally to be left in there.
The Woman was sleeping when they arrived. He hoped she’d remain that way in the time it took him to finish the job, which he didn’t think would be long. There were two dozen bandits at most, ill equipped and even less trained.
He slung his rifle over his shoulder and paused to rest a hand on her shoulder.
Stay.
“I’ll be back,” he said in a low tone, before forcibly ignoring the bond and heading out.
Return.
Unfortunately, in his admittedly distracted scouting of the base, he missed the patrols they were doing of the surrounding forest.
Which is how his nest was stumbled on by some truly lucky trandoshans, who just happened to have back up already on the way, and Din was disarmed, cuffed, and taken into the yard behind the walls of the base.
Not ideal, but he’d been in worse setups.
Though the odds tilted out of his favor when the head of this bandit ring was revealed to be an ex-storm trooper sergeant. That had not been in the briefing.
No wonder there were forest patrols… and imperial grade handcuffs.
At least they let him keep his helmet for the time being.
However, they were unfortunately interested in how he’d gotten to them. A search party was immediately dispatched to find his ship.
They hadn’t been gone more than five minutes when suddenly,
Danger.
Oh no.
The Sergeant’s comm link activated. “Ship not yet located, but we did find something else, boss.”
“What?”
“Kursan is bringing her to the base.”
No. No. No.
“Well, well, well. This yours, Mando?” the Sergeant laughed as The Woman was brought into the yard at blaster point. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”
The Woman did not answer. She tried to step away from Kursan, but his grip on her arm stopped her, blaster pressing to her back.
“Let her go,” Din said. “She’s not part of this.”
“Oh, so, she’s up for grabs then?”
The Sergeant chuckled when Din did not reply. “‘Cause, ah… I know she’s not a local. And it’s not everyday beautiful women come wandering through the forests of Felucia.”
Danger!
He grinned. “This just got interesting. I know you Mandalorian types. Torture doesn’t bother you. Rip your lungs out and you still wouldn’t talk.” The Sergeant swaggered over to one of the weapons racks, picking up a bo staff. “You’re big on honor, loyalty. But more importantly, Protection.”
The Sergeant turned back to face The Woman, regarding her closely. “I wonder how pretty her face will be after I’m through,” he said quietly, steadily.
Rage breaking through control, Din pulled at his cuffs but they held strong.
“Leave her alone!” Din snapped.
Danger. Danger. Danger.
“Tell me where your ship is.”
Din gaze swept through the area, hopping from his restraints to his captors, seeking alternate routes. Desperate ploys. Anything.
The Sergeant did not wait, bo staff meeting The Woman’s ribs with a crack. She cried out and dropped to her knees, arms wrapped around her middle.
“Tell me where the ship is.”
With a swift inhale, the Sergeant lifted the bo staff for another swing–
“It’s on the ridge. A klick and a half due south.”
The Sergeant grinned again. “There. Now was that so difficult?”
He swung the bo staff down towards her–
“NO,” Din yelled–
The Woman’s hand caught the staff, mid-swing.
Her head snapped up. Snarl on her mouth.
She snagged the staff sideways, through the Sergeant’s grip, and gouged it into Kursan’s stomach.
His blaster fell to the ground. She grabbed it.
One shot, Kursan was down.
Second shot, hit the middle of the Sergeant’s cuirass, making him stumble back, and she got hold of the bo staff.
One quick swing knocked him to the ground.
Din used the cover of surprise to knock his blaster out of the hands of his guard.
Grabbing it, one shot to kill that guard and a second to kill the other.
The rest of the battlements finally caught on and opened fire into the yard.
The Woman ran for cover behind a parked imperial shuttle as Din tried to draw as much attention as possible away from her. Still cuffed, but at least he had the beskar.
A post under the battlements was as best cover as he could find. But it gave him a clear view of the opposite wall. Another shot, another guard fell.
A body dropped right in front of him, shot down by The Woman on the other side of the yard.
Who was she–no. Curiosity could be dealt with later, right now he was just kriffing grateful.
In tandem, they methodically took out the guards on the wall.
But Din lost sight of the Sergeant in the chaos.
He found him again when the Sergeant and The Woman came around the shuttle, bo staff and axe swinging furiously.
Din rolled out of cover, getting the last few guards she left behind above him.
The Sergeant blocked her high swing, but wasn’t ready as she brought the bottom up between his legs.
Then around to sweep his feet out from under him again.
Din turned and fired, hitting the gap between his cuirass and pauldron. The Sergeant collapsed.
The Woman turned on Din, gun back out and pointed his way.
One last guard, buried in cover, popped out and got off a single shot that pinged off Din’s armor.
Without looking away from Din, The Woman fired and the guard fell.
Oh.
Silence filled the yard as she turned her gun back on Din.
Her eyes were clear now, scorching in their fury. He was far more likely to die by her hand than any of the bandits.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Din had never seen anyone more miraculous.
He dared a step closer, still cuffed, blaster in one hand but lowered.
Her grip tightened on her gun.
Probably best to stop moving so the conversation didn’t begin in gunfire.
Her grip flexed again, and her brows flickered together.
Help.
“It’s alright,” he said in a calm, low tone.
She didn’t care much for that, fury flaring brighter.
Frustration became palpable as her mouth opened but no words came out.
She was straining for something, tension pulling her muscles taught. The hand on her bo staff shook once, till finally–
“VAII,” she demanded, the single word wrenched from her mouth with a great deal of effort.
It’d been so long since he’d heard mando’a outside of the covert, it took a moment for the word to register.
“Vaii me’bana?” he asked when she didn’t clarify. Where-what?
“Vaii!?” she repeated, after a shorter struggle.
“Felucia.” He hoped that was what she was asking.
Frustration and fury simmered down into confusion. Mouth opening again but no words coming out for a moment.
“Tion?” How?
Somewhere inside the compound, an alarm sounded.

Monday morning at the Outreach Center, Monae and M’Baku were the main topic of conversation. People had always speculated about the two, but seeing them leave the gala together was kindling for the gossip flames. Before they even arrived word had already gotten around about them, but when the volunteers saw them pull up together it spread like wildfire.
“You think they know?”
“I do not know, nor do I care,” he leaned down and kissed her cheek as they entered the building, coming face to face with Neicey. “Ah, Neicey...how are you today?”
“I’ve been better,” she eyed Monae with a smirk, “but I see you don’t waste any time.”
“Yes, well-”
“No need. Y’all are cute together, by the way.” she said as she sauntered off towards her classroom.
“Well that was uneventful,” Monae said under her breath and M’Baku playfully nudged her as they walked up the stairs to the third floor and he gave her yet another kiss as they separated to go to their respective offices on opposite sides of the Center. When Monae reached her office and turned the doorknob she was met with the sight of dozens of white roses. She wanted to run down the hall, jump on M’Baku, and kiss all over his handsome face, but had to remain professional while at work. She set her stuff down and picked up the card from the bouquet on her desk.
“When did he even have time to do this?” she mused to herself out loud.
She opened the card and the smile on her face grew twice as big.
“A mountain of snow-white flowers from your favorite Jabari chief.”
She held the card to her chest and sighed before moving a couple of the bouquets around to get to her desk. She settled in for the day, but got almost nothing done because she kept looking at the clock, waiting until lunchtime to see her man.
M’Baku was just as distracted in his office as Deontae tried to hold his attention on the task at hand.
“M’Baku, hello?”
“I am sorry, please continue,” he shook himself from his daze.
“That’s the third time you’ve done that in the last five minutes. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong,” a smirk creeped up on his face before he could tamp it back down.
“Mmmhm, if you say so,” Deontae side-eyed him and kept shuffling through papers, looking up at M’Baku from time to time to catch him staring off in the distance with a half-smile on his face.
When noon came around he jumped up from his desk and almost ran over Deontae on his way out the door. He made his way down the hall until he got to the art wing of the center. There she was, his love, coming out of her office just as he rounded the corner.
Their eyes met and he pulled her in for a quick kiss before grabbing her hand and walking her towards the stairs and down to the first floor.
“What are we having today?”
“Sushi? I’ve been craving fish and there’s that one place you like with the veggie rolls.”
“Sushi it is, then. How has your day been…” he trailed off at the sight of Deontae with his mouth wide open.
“I knew something was up with you,” he said excitedly, happy to have been right. “So this is a thing now?” He gestured between the two of them and smiled.
“Yeah it’s a thing,” Monae wlooked up at M’Baku and they smiled at each other. He put his arm around her shoulder and kissed her temple, pulling her in close.
“Awww, y’all are cute...and reminding me I’m tragically single,” he sighed, putting his head back down into his tablet and bidding them adieu, shuffling back in the direction he came from.
By the time the two got back from lunch, the whole Outreach Center was abuzz with the news of the new couple. So much so that when M’Baku visited her classroom before the end of the day, even the kids knew, though they always suspected.
As the days passed by, M’Baku and Monae formed a routine. He basically moved into her apartment and every morning they would wake up and have slow and steamy “good morning” sex before showering and cooking breakfast together. They’d arrive at work and go their separate ways before meeting up for lunch around noon, then he would stop by her class before the end of the day. Every time, the kids greeted him with their bright, snaggletoothed smiles and a chorus of “Hiiii Mr. M’Baku!” before he took his place in the back of the class and watched her do her thing. Every now and then Kehinde would ask M’Baku to sub in for him on the drums and he’d gladly oblige. After class, they’d go home to her apartment and one of them would cook for the other or they’d order in. Their nights were spent either passed out on the couch with the tv watching them, or staying up all hours exploring each other’s bodies.
She kept the thermostat low for him, but he noticed she looked uncomfortable all bundled up around the apartment in her fuzzy socks and old college hoodie, so he turned it back up for her one day while she was out running errands. When she came home and felt the temperature, she was worried that he was maybe sick or something, but when he explained the change to her she had to take some time to compose herself upon realizing just how much he cared for her. After a few days, he got used to the sparing use of the air conditioner. Especially since the warmer it was, the less clothing she wore around the apartment, and he loved seeing her in little skimpy outfits or nothing at all. Even when it wasn’t sexual, the sight of her body warmed him from the inside out.
They even got to know each other’s families. M’Baku called his mother, Ada, once or twice a week to check in, and one day Monae loudly ran into the room fussing to him about some dance competition show kicking off the best contestant and Ada heard everything. She was tickled by her vivaciousness and the two of them spoke on the phone. Now every time M’Baku calls his mama she wants to speak to Monae. She was quickly becoming her favorite and it only slightly annoyed M’Baku.
A month into their relationship, Monae’s sister Jazz came to visit and he moved back into his place for the weekend so as not to crowd the small apartment. Neither one of them got much sleep, both missing the feeling of their lover’s body pressed up against theirs through the night. Jazz and M’Baku got along great, though, and Monae often caught herself wondering what it would be like if the three of them could be one small happy family. She shook the thought out of her head every time, reminding herself of his duty to his people.
Their relationship wasn’t all sunshine and roses, though. Monae had a nasty habit of pulling away from him at times when she got sad thinking about his eventual departure, but that always came to an end when M’Baku fucked the attitude right out of her. He tried his best to not think about leaving, even though the date grew closer and closer, but it constantly crossed his mind. He was just better at hiding it.
Almost every night they laid curled up in bed, talking the night away and stealing every last second they could with each other, but for some reason this night was different. When she climbed off his still throbbing dick and plopped down next to him, he could tell something was bothering her.
“What is it, my love?”
She looked at him with the saddest eyes he had ever seen.
“That right there. ‘My love’,” a single tear rolled down her cheek and he reached out to wipe it away, but she turned her face away from him as more tears appeared.
M’Baku sat up against the headboard, already aware of where her mind was. He was there too. They only had a week left and both of them wished they could stop time to avoid the inevitable, but it was coming fast.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to cry-”
“Babygirl, it is ok to cry about it,” his voice cracked and she looked up to see tears threatening to fall from his eyes. She curled up on his lap and the two of them sobbed into each other for what felt like hours.
“Do you...do you think you’ll come visit the Center?”
“I do not think I will be able to make it often, but I will visit when I can,” he kissed her temple and rested his cheek against the top of her head as she sniffled.
“Y-you’ll have to get married to some beautiful warrior princess and she’ll give you a bunch of big ass Jabari babies-”
He chuckled and she smiled at him before her face turned sad again.
“I don’t want you to forget me, but I know you’ll have to.”
“I could never forget you, Monae,” he tilted her chin up towards him and kissed her lips softly. She pulled back and stared into his big brown eyes, reddened from his tears.
“M’Baku, I need you to do something for me…”
“Anything, my love,” he pecked her lips.
“I-I can’t see you off...I can’t wave goodbye while you take off in the Talon, I don’t think I can do it. I need you to be ok with that, I can’t watch you leave me.”
He nodded in understanding and wiped her tears.
“I understand, babygirl.”
He stroked her hair softly and the two of them stayed silently cuddled up all night, until they drifted off to sleep.
--------
“A little higher on the left, Rodney,” Monae instructed and she stood back, looking at the banner the kids had painted for M’Baku’s going away party. He adjusted his side and she took another look at it, giving him a thumbs up. “Perfect!”
Rodney hopped down off the step ladder and dusted his hands off before taking a look at the banner, himself.
“You know, he’s gonna love it,” he said, turning to Monae and flashing his adorable crooked smile. She wanted to smile back, but the most she could muster was a lazy smirk. She was still worried about making sure every little thing was in place for his going away party, but she knew he’d love it. Some of the older kids had drawn “We’ll miss you, M’Baku!” in graffiti on the banner and the younger kids had added their colorful handprints.
“I hope so,” she whispered under her breath and let out a sigh.
“Rod’s right, you gotta relax Monae,” N’Jadaka came up on her other side.
“I just want it to be perfect for him, is that a crime?”
“No, but you know he’s a simple man. It’s the thought that counts and you’ve really put your heart into this,” he said as he watched the kids rehearse their choreographed Jabari dance. Their faux fur-accented costumes looked so cute and Monae had a few volunteers and other instructors to thank for doing such a good job on them. N’Jadaka’s eyes met hers and he grinned, “You know he’s gonna miss the fuck out of you, right?”
“Yeah I know.”
There was silence for a moment before N’Jadaka cleared his throat.
“Anyways, just give me the signal and I’ll go grab him and bring him down here,” he said before walking away to sneak a snack from the refreshment table.
Monae smiled warmly thinking about the royal family’s willingness to help her plan M’Baku’s going away party and how they helped keep him busy over the past week to keep him from finding out about Monae’s surprise. She shook herself out of her thoughts for a moment to do one final check of the party before she had N'Jadaka go retrieve M’Baku.
The vegetarian-friendly snack table was fully stocked despite the prince’s best efforts, and the kids’ mountain range and gorilla-themed art hung proudly on the walls. Volunteers, staff, and some kids and their families had gathered at the Center after hours to say goodbye to M’Baku who had quickly become a favorite among the kids and adults alike.
“Ok,” she took a deep breath, “I think we’re ready...I think I’m ready.”
She went to go find N’Jadaka and let him know it was time, and the prince disappeared to go collect M’Baku. He texted her when they were almost back and she queued up Rodney and Kehinde on the drums. M’Baku walked in the room to see  her leading kids of all ages in a Jabari dance he had taught her. His smile was so big it probably reflected all the way to Jabari Land, and a tear came to his eye as he took in the banner above their heads. He watched as Monae and the kids’ feet stomped in rhythm to the drums and as the performance came to an end he was the first to applaud, clapping harder than everyone in the room. He went over and lifted her in his arms, spinning her around and planting a kiss on her lips, ignoring the chorus of “ewwwwww” coming from most of the kids and “awwwww” from most of the adults. When he put her back down she wiped away the tears that had escaped from his sad eyes.
“I’m glad you like it,” she smiled warmly at him, biting her bottom lip.
“I love it,” he kissed her again.
“I have a gift for you when we get home.”
“This was not enough?” he laughed and she playfully slapped his strong chest.
“No it wasn’t. I think you’ll like that one too.”
“I am sure I will love it,” he kissed her nose before they separated to give other people the chance to say goodbye to him too. She brought him a plate from the refreshment table and he kissed her cheek to say thank you while he spoke to some of the parents he met several weeks ago at the Open House. He had made quite the impression on a lot of people and those people all wanted to tell him goodbye, so the party went pretty late. As the numbers dwindled Monae started to clean up the space before a voice interrupted her.
“Why don’t you let us handle it?” Shuri offered, seemingly coming from out of nowhere with her cousin begrudgingly following behind her.
“Are you sure?” Monae was hesitant since this whole mess was her idea in the first place.
“Monae, go be with your man, we can handle this,” said the princess, taking the trash bag from her hand without waiting for a response.
Monae smiled at Shuri and thanked her before sauntering back over to M’Baku as the last person left the party.
“Ready to go?”
“More than ready, talking to so many people is exhausting.”
She giggled and they made their way back to her apartment, stealing glances and kisses whenever they could on the car ride home. When they got to her apartment he attacked her mouth with his and pushed her back against the door.
“Thank you. You did not have to do all of that, but you did and it was beautiful. Seeing you dancing like that turned me on so much,” he buried his head in the crook of her neck and kissed her softly before licking a stripe up to her ear and biting her earlobe. She let out a whimper before weaseling out of his grasp, making his eyebrows furrow.
“Uh-unh, not yet Daddy.” She dipped into the second bedroom, that she had turned into her work space, and returned with a large gift-wrapped box that looked to have some weight to it. When she set it down on the kitchen table he looked at her questioningly. “Don’t just stare at it,” she laughed and pulled out her phone to record him.
He tore at the paper and ripped the tape from the box before opening it. When he saw the contents more tears came to his eyes. She had given him her copies of all the books from their “Captain America Lists” plus a couple of her favorites.
“I thought you’d like my old beat-up books since they have my notes and scribbles in the margins. It’ll be like we’re reading together.”
He reached his hand out for her and she took it, intertwining their fingers as he pulled her into him for a hungry kiss.
“I love it, thank you Babygirl.”
Her hands rested on his chest as his arms circled her waist before their foreheads connected and they began swaying from side to side. He started humming and she recognized the song, but couldn’t quite place it.
“What is that? It sounds familiar,” she said, resting her head where her hands were and moving her hands to around his broad shoulders.
“Remember Nia’s party?”
“Mhm.”
“It is the song we danced to in the hallway outside her apartment, I looked up the lyrics and found it online. It is ‘Collide’  by EarthGang and Tiana Major9.”
She beamed against his chest, “I love it.”
M’Baku tilted her head up towards his and looked her head in her eyes, “And I love you.”
“I love you, too...more than anything.”
Their lips met in yet another hungry kiss and she jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist as he carried her to the bedroom. He carefully laid her down and kissed down her body before she brought his face back up to hers.
“I want you inside me.”
He obliged, undressing himself slowly and watching as she did the same. When their lips met again he climbed on top of her and slowly pushed her back into the pillows. His fingers traced her lower lips and found their way inside her, getting her ready for him until she grabbed his wrist and shook her head.
“Now.”
M’Baku lined himself up with her opening and slowly slid in until he was fully sheathed inside her. Neither one of them moved, imprinting the feel of the other into their brains and bodies forever. When their hips both started to roll into each other slowly they both moaned in unison and he pulled his dick most of the way out before entering her again as deep as he could. He did this over and over, rolling his hips and hitting that spot in the back of Monae’s pussy that made her mind go numb.
“M’Baku, baby,” she moaned as she felt him deep in her soul and he growled into her upon hearing the way his name tumbled from her lips, picking up the pace but still digging impossibly deep inside her. “Oooh Daddy, you’re so deep.”
She wrapped her legs around his waist, not wanting to ever let him go as he grinded his hips into hers, making tears fall from her eyes from both pleasure and sorrow. He kissed them away and continued to rock her world.
“I-I’m-”
“Mhm, I can feel it, come for me,” he leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Cum for your chief.”
That sent her over the edge and the tingling feeling she felt in her pussy gave way to a flood as her body tensed and released. She pulled him in deeper and her nails clawed at his back as she spasmed beneath him. Feeling her contracting around him almost sent him over the edge with her, but he wasn’t done with her yet. She released her legs and he pulled out, immediately diving between her legs to clean up her mess. The moan she let out was so loud it had to have woken up the neighbors, but his tongue continued to circle her overstimulated clit until he latched his lips around it and she came in his mouth. He tongued her into one more orgasm before flipping her over and raising her hips. She stuck her ass out for him and he wasted no time getting back inside her.
This time he wasn't so gentle. He grabbed her throat, pulling her back into him, deepening the arch in her back until she lifted completely from the bed and leaned back into his chest as he gave it to her good. One of his strong hands pulled her hips back into his as he whispered sweet, filthy nothings into her ear.
“I love you, Monae.”
“I love how you feel around me.”
“I love how you say my name when I hit this spot right here.”
“M’Baku!” she yelled as his hips dug deep and his dick hit right where he said he would.
“Mhm, just like that.”
She stroked the back of his head as his left hand came up and around to play with her nipples before trailing down and rubbing circles over her clit.
“Cum again.”
And she did, over and over throughout the night. He somehow held off, and it wasn’t until she took control and lowered her ample hips onto his dick that he began to feel his composure slipping away. She bounced herself up and down, flexing her kegel muscles around him and paying special attention to the tip of his dick before corkscrewing her hips down so that they met pelvis-to-pelvis. M’Baku let himself go and succumbed to her charms, moaning her name as he released deep inside her. Her hips still moved in circles, draining him of every last drop as she leaned down to lock lips with him. Their kiss was slow and deep and her hips continued to wind on him, pulling whimpers out of him that she had never heard before.
“Monae, please,” he begged, which only egged her on more. She hopped off his dick slowly, tightening her pussy walls on the way up just to fuck with him, and dropped to her knees before taking his throbbing dick into her mouth.
“Ah, fuck!” his legs shook and he came again down her throat as she sucked him dry, jaws working overtime to incapacitate him. Once she was satisfied, she reached her hand out to him and he sat up, disoriented from his orgasm.
“You ok?” she giggled.
“Yeah, yeah, I am...girl you almost killed me,” he said with a laugh, which she joined in on as she sashayed into the bathroom to turn on the shower. They both got in and scrubbed down before M’Baku took it upon himself to eat her pussy again, wanting to taste her one last time. Monae was thankful that the water hid her tears as she held onto the back of his head, wishing she could feel this feeling forever, but knowing their time was at an end. When she came she burst into tears and without a word he finished cleaning her up before carrying her from the shower. He dried her off and lotioned her up before sliding one of his t-shirts over her head.
She sniffled and looked up at him as he cared for her with tears in his eyes, too proud to fall at this moment. She placed her hand on his face and the dam broke, sending tear after tear from his eyes.
She returned his favor by getting him ready for bed as they both cried and sniffled before crawling into bed and curling up with each other. She buried her face into his chest and swung her leg across his body while he ran his fingers over her hair and his other hand traced symbols of love and protection into her thigh. They both silently prayed over each other, wishing the other to find happiness, before dreamland confiscated their consciousnesses.
Monae could barely sleep, instead choosing to stay awake and listen to his soft snores. Around 6am he started to stir as usual, so she closed her eyes and pretended to still be asleep when he carefully unwrapped her arm and leg from around him. He slid from under her and sat on the side of the bed just staring at her face as she breathed in and out. He got up momentarily and pulled something from the drawer he kept his things in, which had been emptied out a couple days ago with the exception of a couple things Monae wanted to keep. She felt him sit on the end of the bed and heard the sounds of a pen on paper. It took everything in her to not open her eyes and say something, but she had told him she couldn’t watch him leave and she still couldn't even though her lack of sleep forced her to hear him leave her instead.
He finished scribbling on the paper and placed it on his pillow before leaning over and lightly kissing her forehead so as not to wake her. It took all of Monae’s strength to keep her tears from falling as he walked across the room and shut the door behind him. She opened her eyes and stared at the paper beside her as she heard him sniffling in the hallway. She heard Juju meow and he let out a little laugh as he reached down to say goodbye to her.
“Take good care of her for me,” he said to the cat, who purred at him as he scratched her head.
She heard him pick up his bags and it wasn't until the front door closed behind him that she allowed herself to break down. Tears flowed from her eyes as she sat up in bed and held her knees to her chest, wailing as she finally allowed herself to feel the pain of him leaving her. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever see him again, but even if she did he could never be her M’Baku again. He’d have to be Lord M’Baku, Chief of the Jabari, Husband to _____. He’d have to produce heirs and she would just have to go on about her daily life like she never fell in love with the Great Gorilla. She curled up into a ball and reached for his note to read it as best she could in the sliver of sunlight that shone into the room, when she noticed something roll off the pillow onto the bed. It was a small ring made of Jabari wood that was just the right size for her, so she slid it onto her ring finger as she looked down at the note.
My Chieftess,
I am sorry for leaving you this way, but I cannot say goodbye to you either. I really do not know what to say here other than I love you and I always will. I will miss you with my whole heart, Monae, but you will always have a piece of me with you. This ring is an exact replica of my chief ring, but in your size. Wear it and think of me, as I will think of you every time I look at mine.
Until we meet again…
Yours always,
M’Baku
Her eyes overflowed with tears and her body jerked as she sobbed even more, careful to not cry on the page that she’d keep forever. She stared at the ring on her finger and felt like she was floating among the clouds with him instead of being dragged down by the weight of it like her previous ring from the nonfactor named Derrick. Looking back, she couldn’t believe she thought that was love, but now she knew what real love felt like and she could never go back. Though it was hard to picture herself with someone else, she knew it would probably happen one day, so she silently thanked her big mountain man for teaching her how she deserved to be loved.
--------
Two months passed by and M’Baku still could not get her out of his head, even as the council paraded eligible bachelorettes in front of him on a daily basis. Ada said nothing because she knew of the situation, but she also knew M’Baku was well aware he would have to pick a wife soon. Most days he sat on his throne with a pout on his face, barely listening to whatever the current discussion was and daydreaming of his love.
Monae wasn’t doing much better, but the kids knew why she was sad and did everything they could to cheer her up. Of course their smiles made her happy in the moment, but when she went home to her apartment it just felt empty and sad. She had been toying around with the idea of visiting her great aunt, Sarah, back home for a change of scenery and finally decided she’d take off for a couple weeks to get her head back on straight.
The Outreach Center was running just fine, even though M’Baku’s presence was missed, until one day N’Jadaka and Shuri were called back to Wakanda for an emergency. T’Challa had Nakia stay in Oakland because someone had to run the Center in their absence, but Monae secretly wondered if it was more for her safety than anything. She had asked Nakia what was going on, but even the queen of Wakanda had no idea. Monae closed her eyes and said a quick prayer for her friends and her love to stay safe, but when she opened her eyes the sight before her shook her to her core.
Children and workers were disintegrating before her eyes and screams rang out among the untouched. Monae reached out to grab a volunteer as she slipped away, but all she felt was dust. She and the few adults left tried to calm the children, but it was no use since they themselves were horrified by what they had just witnessed.
They heard honking from multiple cars and screaming before a van crashed into the front lobby, no driver in the seat. The children clung onto the adults as everyone tried not to panic.
Nobody knew what happened, but half the world's population disappeared in the blink of an eye. Monae’s sister and great aunt were untouched, but her friends were gone. Juju made it, but most of her neighbors had been taken in what the news was now calling “The Blip”.
T’Challa had lost his sister and his mother in The Blip, which in turn caused the Center to lose the heads of its Social and STEM programs since Nakia decided to stay in Wakanda. When he and N’Jadaka returned to take in what was left of their staff and kids, they decided it was best to close the Outreach Center’s doors until they could find more staff and department heads. Most of the kids had disappeared and the few that remained were too traumatized by what they saw there to want to stick around.
When they visited Monae’s office they found her frantically running around trying to organize her things to keep her mind off of the chaos going on around her. When T’Challa cleared his throat and she looked up, she made eye contact with him and she knew by the look on his face...he was gone.
Monae decided that with the Center closing she would move back home, so she packed up all her stuff, and she and Juju went on a cross-country roadtrip from Oakland to Nashville. When they arrived at her Aunt Sarah’s house she was so thankful to be in the arms of a loved one that she broke down into tears. They both held each other and cried, and when Jazz showed up a couple days later the three of them hugged each other tight, not wanting to let go of the only family they had left.
About a week later Monae realized she hadn’t gotten her period yet, but chalked it up to the stress of The Blip and moving across the country. Another week passed and still, no period. She began to worry and then Aunt Sarah made an announcement at breakfast one morning.
“One of you is pregnant.”
Both girls narrowly avoided a spit take.
“Excuse me?”
“What do you mean ‘pregnant’?”
“I had a dream about fish last night...so which one of you is it?” she asked, looking from Monae to Jazz and back again, waiting for one of them to say something. Silence stretched over the table and when Jazz and Monae locked eyes, she broke.
“I think it’s me. I-I don’t know for sure yet, but I’m late.”
“Aww baby, it’s ok,” Sarah said as she reached out and comforted her niece.
“No it’s not, M’Baku he...he’s gone.”
“Yeah, but if you tell him-”
“No, Jazz he’s gone gone. The Blip took him,” she hung her head and played with the wooden ring on her finger.
There was silence around the table again, but this time Aunt Sarah broke it.
“So do you want to keep the baby?”
The two younger Johnson women looked at their great aunt in shock, surprised she would even ask instead of just assuming.
“I don't even know that there is one yet.”
“Chile between my dreams and your period not showing up, you’re pregnant. Go pee on one of them lil sticks, you’ll see. Now, what are you gonna do, baby?”
Monae thought about her options. Even though her mom had two kids by the time she was Monae’s age, she didn’t feel like she was ready to have children yet. Had the father been someone else, she wouldn’t even have to think it over, but this was M’Baku’s baby. She had a chance to have a little bit of him with her always, and especially now that he was gone forever she couldn’t help but want to have him around in whatever way she could.
“I’m keeping it.”
Aunt Sarah nodded in understanding and Jazz squeezed Monae’s hand.
“I’m gonna be the best Auntie I can be to that little Jabari.”
“Second best,” Aunt Sarah said with an attitude as she got up to hug Monae close. “We’re here for you honey.”

______________________________
Robin slumped down in her seat with a sigh and the oddly bittersweet feeling of melancholy mixed with excitement. Over the rim of her sunglasses, she observed how Jorien rolled her eyes at Cas, but helped her stow away her enormous bag in the overhead compartments nonetheless. It was still before noon, but the sun was already scorching Robin's skin as it flooded the compartment of the Hogwarts Express they had chosen to claim. The school year was over. Time to head back to London.
Minutes later, when the train slowly started moving and the two other girls finally sat down as well, Robin couldn't help feeling more excited than sad at last. Sure, leaving Hogwarts had always dimmed down her mood quite significantly, but this year it was a bit different. For one, she had intentionally chosen to take the train back to London together with her roommates. She also could've apparated back home, now that she had passed the class and gotten her license, but she had decided against it. Perhaps for nostalgic reasons, perhaps because of her constantly babbling but very much appreciated company. But most importantly –and therefore the real reason why she was more excited for the summer to start than dreading to part from her beloved castle– she actually had plans for the holidays for once. Plans which included two of her favorite things in the entire world; potions (in the broadest sense) and Snape. The latter obviously being more reason to her current excitement than the former, but ultimately she was very happy about both.
Really, she had been planning it for a while now. Robin wanted to continue her hunt for rare ingredients, or rather her studies thereof, and after the by now renown success she'd had last October, she had been quick to decide that she would spend the summer with the same kind of expeditions to confirm her theories. Obviously she wouldn't be able to work her way through the entire handbook, which she had kept on expanding and improving throughout the last year, but she would just start somewhere and work her way through as far as she got. Fortunately, from the very moment she had told Snape of her plans, he had been dead set on coming along, saying how it was far too dangerous to deal with some of the things she would necessarily have to encounter on her own, and after a while of teasing and prodding, he had also admitted that he simply wanted to do this together with her either way.
To Robin, the prospect of that, of their plans, was enough reason to keep smiling to herself from time to time, or really any time she thought of it. The only dimmer on her mood was that their adventures would only be able to start from next weekend on; before then, Snape was still stuck at Hogwarts for whatever boring thing Dumbledore had the professors do after the students had left, and Robin for her part had promised to wait until then. For his sake more than her own, and unfortunately, that left her with a week to spend with her parents. Lovely.
"Earth to Robin! What are you all smiley about?" Cas wondered loudly, snapping her fingers in front of Robin's face to get her attention.
"Oh, just excited about my plans for summer." She shrugged in return, yet again unable to stop grinning to herself. Damnit, she really was as subtle as a pink elephant.
"You actually have plans for once? After years of saying you literally don't care? Spill the tea, what's the story?" Jorien quirked an eyebrow at her in doubt and question, and Cas nodded in agreement to the objection.
"No story, I'm just excited, that's all."
"What's your plans then?"
"Proving my theories about different substances and ingredients, testing methods and means to find them, and improving all of it based on the results of practical research." Robin explained in one breath, and received two questioning looks in return. With a sigh and a smile she added, "I will travel around and look for plants and animals I can use for potions."
"Uuh, going on adventures! Why didn't you just say that!" Cas beamed in return, then went off into her own direction with it. "You should write a book about it! Or better, a comic! With moving pictures and all that kinda stuff! 'Robin the lone scientist'... How about that?"
"More like 'Robin the mad scientist'." Robin laughed in return, letting her head fall back against the seat for a moment until she could tone down her grin a little.
"Perhaps you should let us come with you! Then you certainly won't be alone anymore." Jorien mused carefully, more hopeful than intrusive, and Robin's eyes fell onto the two grinning girls again.
"I won't be alone at all, actually… My best friend is coming with me." She finally allowed herself to admit, and the words were already enough to make her skin tingle. Geez, she really shouldn't be this excited about it… but it didn't hurt anyone either.
"Oi, that mysterious guy you never lose more than a word about?" Cas' eyes lit up, and she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. "Perhaps you will finally get that passionate romance I've been hoping for!"
"Speaking of which, have you made plans to visit Simon?" Robin inquired, brutally changing the topic before they would try to snoop any more.
"Unfortunately, my parents aren't too fond of the idea of me having a boyfriend." The blonde rolled her eyes exaggeratedly, falling back into her seat with a huff. The grandeur of the gesture made Robin want to snort, but she suppressed it for empathy's sake. "So I probably won't see him at all until summer's over. I hope he doesn't find someone better than me in the meantime!"
"You can always write letters to him." Robin suggested with a shrug. "The anticipation and delay in that can be quite exciting as well. Carefully chosen words, the time taken to share a piece of one's mind with the other, the reassuring physicality of someone's handwriting on parchment…"
"You're terribly romantic, you know that?"
"Don't tell anyone." Robin replied, rising her eyebrows at them with a small smirk. "I have a reputation to uphold."
… … …
The one good thing once they arrived back in London, after Cas and Jorien had found their parents who had come to pick them up like always, was that Robin didn't have to deal with her trunk anymore. With a swoop of her wand, it shrunk down to a miniature and disappeared in the depth of her backpack. Thank God she was finally over seventeen… had been for a while now, actually. The summer would be so much more enjoyable now that she could use magic outside of school.
Instead of taking the first train back to Oxford like she usually did, Robin spent some time strolling around London. After all, she could be at home in a blink now whenever she fancied to be, and she didn't have luggage other than her backpack either. When she eventually sat down in a small cafe with a book Cas had practically forced upon her (not without making Robin actually promise to read it over summer), she couldn't help wondering what Snape might be up to right now. It was around this time when they would usually have pre-dinner coffee, or take a walk around the grounds, or set up for that evening's work in advance… oh bloody hell, she missed him already. But in the light of the impending week with her family, she also found herself missing Jorien and Cas. Anyone was better company than the people who were (probably not even) waiting for her in Oxford. For a moment, she wondered if they would care if she didn't come home today. If they would even notice.
Sighing, Robin ordered the largest coffee on the menu and then went to distract herself from the inevitable necessity to go home by reading Cas' book for now. It was the kind of read Robin wouldn't pick up even with her eyes closed; a cheesy romance novel about a girl around the same age as her, who slowly discovered the 'wonders' of love and physical intimacy in a plot that otherwise didn't even fit the romance. Robin couldn't help rolling her eyes every other page, but she had promised Cas that she would read it, and thus she had to suffer through all the drama and badly phrased make-out sessions now. Why on earth was this Cas' favorite book?! Admittedly, the girl deemed fashion magazines the high art of literature, but this… ugh. Sometimes Robin wished she didn't take her promises quite so seriously.
When her coffee was empty and a good third of the dreadful book behind her (which at some point had gotten a little less dreadful… not that she would ever admit that to anyone), she decided that it was late enough to make her way home at last. If she didn't want to sleep in the gutter, there was little else she could do. Well, technically she could camp out somewhere up north… she had everything she needed in her backpack… but some stupid part of her mind wanted to give her parents another chance to care. Some sparks of pathetic hope had crept through the cracks in her walls once again, even if she knew that she would only be disappointed again. It couldn't be helped either way. After paying for her coffee, she sought out the first space away from prying eyes, and finally went home in a swirl of time and space.
… … …
It had been three days, and Robin was already going insane. During her absence, her parents' house had turned into an outpost of the local university, or so it seemed. Not only had her bedroom been unrecognizable and all her things were packed up in boxes in the basement upon her arrival, but there simply were too many people around her on a constant basis, and no possibility to hide; Robin's parents, the three American scientists currently living with them, and usually two to five other people working on the same project even after hours. Begrudgingly Robin had accepted that she no longer had her own room in this house, and even that she had to live out of cardboard boxes for the moment… But the five other people living in this house with her currently were just too much.
The moment she'd come home on Monday evening she had noticed two things right away: One, her parents hadn't expected that she would actually want to sleep on the couch for more than a night. Two, the people from the States were assholes, to stick with their language. Well, two of the three, at least. A married couple who had moved into her old bedroom, and honestly, they could be summarized as mainly three things: religious, respectless and rude. Right on the first evening, they hadn't hesitated to make not so subtle but very much mocking comments about Robin 'attending a boarding school for special children', as her parents seemed to have explained the situation to them. Then they had gone on to comment on her 'disorderly choice of clothing', which they deemed entirely unsuitable for a young lady of any respectable family. Them finding out that Robin, in fact, didn't pray before meals (nor at any other time really), and also had absolutely no intention to, had resulted in a lengthy speech about the importance of God's guidance for a young lady (that term again…), especially when she was constantly tempted by vicious males around her. (They had also found it outrageous that the school she attended wasn't just for girls!) At that point, Robin had regretted ever coming back to this place, ever allowing herself to hope that it might not be completely awful. That had been three hours after her arrival.
Three days later, she was going insane for real. The only good thing was that every one of them was gone throughout most of the day, which allowed her to take a break from the constant orders and remarks given to her by four people by now, none of which actually had the right to do so. Honestly, she didn't know why she didn't just leave. Pack up the boxes in the basement and find some other place to live, where she wouldn't be either entirely ignored to the point of feeling invisible or pestered with disdainful comments. And now, four days into this mess, she made the decision that she would have to adapt her plans if she wanted to survive this summer.
"I'll be leaving tomorrow. I'm going to travel the country with a friend until the end of summer." She declared out of the blue, during dinner on Friday evening, after being silent for over three hours. Originally she had planned to take day trips with Snape, and come back here in the evenings to spend the days in between excursions at her parents' house. But now she just wanted to have a decent enough reason to leave and stay gone for as long as possible. Perhaps forever.
"That's amazing, sweetie! I'm glad to hear you have plans." Her mom was the first to reply, smiling in what looked like sincere relief upon the prospect of having her daughter out of the picture at last.
The conflict growing between the American couple and Robin hadn't passed by her parents unnoticed, indeed they were as well aware of it as everyone else, but they had always made an effort not to get involved, always avoiding to possibly upset their guests, even when they had clearly crossed a line. To Robin, they had thereby picked their side, and it had never been hers.
"Traveling the country… Spending your parents' hard earned money, eh?" The scarecrow on the other side of the table scoffed in a too high pitched voice, and Robin had to make a conscious effort to keep her facade of perfect neutrality plastered onto her face. "If I was your mother, I would see to it that you find yourself a job and get working as soon as possible!"
"We offered to pay for her expenses, should she wish to spend the summer elsewhere, because we had to clear out her room for you." Robin's dad explained almost apologetically. "But it might as well be a belated gift for… two birthdays and two Christmases, I believe."
"Never coming home and then expecting to be paid for nonetheless…" The scarecrow made a face at Robin as she let out a scoff. "Children, they're all the same no matter where you are in the world. I know why I never wanted any."
Robin's jaw clenched for but a second, the only tell of her true emotions, but then she calmly went back to cutting her chicken into neat pieces of exactly the same size as she had previously cut her vegetables and potatoes as well. "I won't need any of your money, thank you for the offer nonetheless. I believe it would be best for everyone if I was… financially independent as soon as possible. I'm an adult, so I might as well pay for myself."
"Oh, you're one of those types." Scarecrow's husband mused in an unsuccessful attempt at subtle distaste. "Traveling around like a gypsy, always deep in someone's pocket for a dollar… The youth these days just doesn't know what work is anymore."
"Actually, I work hard and earn my money like everyone else does." Robin replied coldly, not even honouring the man with a glance. It was a very twisted version of the truth she was presenting here, but it would have to do. "Just because I attend a school quite far away from the larger cities doesn't mean there is no opportunity to make a living on the side."
"Yes, and we all know how pretty young girls can make a living the easiest way, don't we?" Scarecrow scoffed, and the entire table fell silent for a moment. Nobody dared to speak, and all eyes eventually sought out Robin, who in return was desperately glad for her years of practice in looking entirely indifferent. On the inside however, her mind was raging. How dared this woman to make such accusations, or even hint at something like that?! A small part of Robin wondered what would happen if she simply cursed everyone in the room, and took their memories of it afterwards. But instead, she settled for merely being silent and clinging onto the thought that she would be gone tomorrow.
"Do you by any chance work in a kitchen?" The third American, the only decent human being in the room and the only person Robin wasn't currently mad at, asked and thereby broke the uncomfortable silence. "Because I couldn't help noticing how adept you are at cooking. The dinner you made last night was amazing, and I've never seen someone so skilled with a knife."
"Thank you." Robin offered him a small smile, and inwardly thanked him for saving her from the ridiculous situation like that. "I really do sort of work in a kitchen, actually. For the past few years I have been trained quite a bit in addition to the normal school curriculum, to properly select and prepare ingredients for example, but by now, I actually get to make entire recipes by myself." Again, not a lie. Cooking and potion making were quite similar in a lot of ways, and she would shamelessly take advantage of that now.
"I didn't know you were training to become a chef." Robin's dad frowned at her, then shrugged and continued eating at last. "But I'm glad to hear that you are looking into a serious and decently paying career path. Not that… odd stuff they teach you at school."
"So, who's the friend you're going to be traveling with?" Her mom asked, changing the topic and the tension that had been hanging in the hair was resolved as the others continued with their meals as well.
"You wouldn't know him; someone I know from school." Was all Robin replied, but perhaps she should've thought better of it.
"A boy?! Excuse me, but I just have to intervene here again, entirely for your own good…" The scarecrow was quick to respond, and Robin cringed at every single part of the vile woman's sentence. "Just imagine how that might look to some people! A girl and a boy, traveling the country together all by themselves… Do you truly want to have such a poor reputation?! Just think about the disgrace it would be for your parents! Or for your future husband! People might assume you were dishonored!"
If that woman knew that Robin was going to travel with Snape, a man who was eleven years older than her and who used to be her professor until a week ago, she surely would combust in outrage, or faint in shock. Robin had to suppress a snort at the thought, and the idea of telling her suddenly became very tempting. But she wouldn't, as that would surely only end to her own disadvantage. After all, it would put reality into even more of a false light… they were still going to part ways in the evenings to meet up again on another day. Either way, Robin had quite enough of the woman sitting across from her at this point.
"Bold of you to assume that I have any honour left for him to take in the first place." She said nonchalantly, in perfect indifference, and while four jaws dropped just like intended, the nice American scientist merely let out a snort. At least one person understood the joke inherent in this bloody situation… Still, this probably hadn't been the smartest thing to say if she ever wanted them to stop bothering her, but as it seemed, her reputation among them had been ruined long before she had arrived here in the first place. And it was the truth after all; at almost eighteen, it wasn't unlikely that she would have a lot more experience than she actually did. It wasn't her fault that a hug was the only form of physical intimacy she'd ever lived to share with anyone… even Cas had more experience than that, and she was only fourteen! Not that this bothered Robin in any way… it was just a fact, and she might as well use it to her advantage at this point.
Dinner continued quietly from then on, and while the silence seemed to be uncomfortable for everyone else, Robin actually found herself feeling more at ease than she had all evening. When willingly allowing yourself to sink quite so low in someone's eyes, even if based on false information and half truths, the result for your own self was quite liberating. No reputation to uphold, no need to impress, nothing to justify. Honestly, she just should've done this from the start. But then again, she had still wanted her parents to pay for her travels at that point. Still had hoped that the boxes in the basement would be unpacked again eventually, once the esteemed guests were gone. Now however, the idea of cutting herself off from her parents entirely had a shocking appeal to it, and she couldn't quite bring herself to step back from it again. Didn't even want to. No, she still had some Christmas money left that she had saved over the years, and from there on she could find some sort of work to make ends meet. Tomorrow morning, she would take the boxes in the basement with her and leave for good.
… … …
If there had been any doubt left in her mind by Friday night if she actually should go through with it, it was blown away Saturday morning when the only thing saying goodbye to her was a note on the kitchen counter that told her to put the rubbish out before she left. Thus she spent the early hours of the day gathering everything that was hers and storing it away in her backpack, while also taking some minor things that surely wouldn't be missed around here. An old record player and a few of her favorite records (both which weren't used anymore), that chipped mug she had been using when she was here for as long as she could remember, but also a photo album that only had the first five pages filled with pictures of her as a baby and toddler. If this was all that would be left of her childhood other than her own memories, she wanted to be the one to have it. She added in a picture of her parents that had been in one of their own albums, then hid the entire thing very deep down in her bag, in a box of things she wanted to keep but still forget about.
When finally she shouldered her bag to leave, she didn't even feel sad. Only bitter and, in a way, deeply hurt that it had come this far. Perhaps it had been her fault, partially at least. Perhaps it had been inevitable. But if the last five days had proven anything, it was that they would be better off going separate ways from here on. Maybe one day, if by that time they still remembered that they'd had a daughter once, she would come back to visit them.
… … …
Half an hour later Robin sat high up on the cliff on the Scottish east coast where their first adventure had started last year, legs dangling over the edge against the stone wall that dropped down way too far, as she waited for Snape to show up. They would have to meet somewhere after all, and this place had seemed like a good idea. Both of them had been here before, it was practically deserted, and thus it was easy to find each other.
The wind whipping around her cleared some of the bitterness the morning had left, dried some silent tears, and it was a reminder of the bigger picture, a reassurance that her problems weren't the end of the world. As dark as things might seem, the planet was still spinning and the only way to move was forward. She took a deep breath, and when the sun broke through the clouds at last, she put on her sunglasses and let it warm her face for once.
"You're early… A bit excited, are we?" Snape remarked the very moment Robin heard him arriving somewhere behind her, and even just the sound of his voice made her smile in an instant.
"So are you, in case you haven't noticed." She replied, leaning back on her hands to look up at him upside down when he came to stand behind her. Surprisingly enough, he was clad in ordinary black bottoms and a simple long sleeved shirt of the same colour. "I think I've never seen you in anything other than those robes you always wear at school…"
"Yes, well, our last… expedition has proven my usual choice of clothing to be rather unsuitable for the occasion." He mused, and finally sat down next to Robin so closely that their shoulders almost touched. "That, and muggles tend to be irritated when one wears robes around them. Since we haven't decided where today will take us, I thought it best to be prepared."
"Clever. As always." Robin smirked, and he rolled his eyes at her using his own expression on him, which she however didn't mind one bit. "How was your week?"
"Dreadful. Yours?"
"Even worse."
"Good."
"Hey!" Robin protested with a laugh, then with a grin she just couldn't fight. "What's good about me being worse than dreadful for a week?"
"It means that no matter if we succeed in our goals today or not, it will still be a better day for you than the last few were."
"Of course it will be better! An infinite number of times better even! Spending time with you is better than anything, you dunderhead."
"Call me that one more time and I will shove you off the cliff."
"Shove me off the cliff and I'll pull you down with me."
"I expect nothing less. That is what I'm here for, after all." He stated with an expression that was too serious looking to actually be serious at all. The not-smirk was an even better tell of that.
"You're here to jump off a cliff?" Robin quirked an eyebrow at him with a teasing smirk.
"I'm here to make sure you aren't alone when you do."
"So if I jump, you will too?"
"I would rather keep either of us from doing something ridiculously stupid as that, but generally, yes." He said, and the fact that he actually seemed to mean every word of that sent a wave of electric sparkles all through Robin's body and mind. She couldn't even put into words how much she adored him for that, and how infinitely glad she was to have him with her. If this was what being his friend was like, she couldn't even imagine how it would be to be more than that. Then again, she shouldn't imagine it in the first place. They were friends. Best friends, but only friends. That had to be enough.
"Good to know." She finally replied, allowing herself to smile at least, so very brightly that he almost had to smile in return. "So… what theory are we looking into today?"
"Get out that handbook of yours and we shall see."

Magic and Miracles - Chapter 4
Sanders Sides Big Bang fic, Chapter 4!
< Previous Chapter | Next Chapter > | Masterlist
Summary: “Are you mocking me?”
“Are you that dense?”
Warning/s: food mention.
Characters: Logan, Remy, OCs, Virgil, Roman, Remus, Patton, Janus, Emile.
Tag List: @theimprobabledreamersworld @remy-please-come-back
Read on AO3
4 | Teamwork Troubles
It was the day after the quest-incident, and Remy had decided they would not be going on any more expeditions for a while. Especially since it was raining like crazy outside. Almost storming but not quite there yet.
Logan liked these kinds of days best because they gave him the perfect excuse to curl up somewhere and read a book. Except, today he couldn’t do that, since they still had lessons, and just like the day before Remy had led them somewhere that wasn’t their classroom.
“Why are we in the kitchens?” Janus asked.
“Because I’ve decided to teach you some more unique magic. Household spells, to be exact.”
Remus cocked his head to the side. “Household spells? Are we learning how to make a home?”
“How to make one tidy, yes. I’m going to teach you everyday spells you can use for cleaning and whatnot.”
“What? But that’s the servant’s job!” Roman complained.
“Not today. I gave the staff the day off, so you’ll all be doing what they usually do.”
The teens all groaned but went to work without much complaining. From most of them anyway. Remy taught them a few easy spells for using water to clean surfaces, air to dust hard to reach places, etc. Logan found that it was a lot easier than normal cleaning but just as boring. His classmates seemed to think so too if their agonised expressions were anything to go by.
“Are we almost done?” Roman asked.
“There’s still a whole third of the house to go,” Virgil informed him.
“This is so lame!” Remus complained. “We’re just casting mopping spells, and dusting spells, and sweeping spells, and shining spells, and nothing interesting!”
“It’s not so bad. We’re getting to see more of the house.” Patton said.
Remus perked up. “Do you think we’ll get to see what’s in the tower?”
“Remy told us on day one we weren’t allowed there,” Willow said.
“Yeah, but he also said we’d be doing what the servants usually do. They must do some kind of maintenance there.”
Logan shrugged. “I highly doubt Remy will allow us to do anything there, even if we’re taking over for the servants.”
“We shouldn’t be doing the servants’ work anyway. It’s for servants!” Roman complained.
Janus groaned. “Can you just shut up? We’re all in the same boat here, so there’s no use complaining the entire time.”
“Well, obviously you’re not standing up for anyone, Mx Dragon.”
“There’s no one to stand up for.”
“We can stand up for ourselves. This is inhumane!”
“Have you never had any repercussions in your life? For anything?”
“What would I need repercussions for? I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Oh, of course. Sorry, I forgot you’re Mr Perfect.”
“Are you mocking me?”
“Are you that dense?”
“You b-”
Before Roman could finish, he and Janus were splashed with water. Everyone turned to find that it was Willow who’d cast the water spell.
“You’re both getting on my nerves now. The only reason you even oppose each other is because of some stupid race-rivalry from a thousand years ago. It’s getting old!”
“He started it!”
“Me? It was you who started it!”
They were both doused with water again. “See, this is what I was talking about! It doesn’t matter who started it, because I say it’s finished.”
“That’s not fair,” Janus complained.
“Well, boo hoo to you- eek!” Willow was suddenly soaked. “Remus!”
“What? I wanted to try out the spell,” she said with an innocent smile that was then wiped of by a thin stream of water squirting into his face.
“Sorry Re, I guess I don’t know my own strength,” Patton said, nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
Remus just laughed. “No worries Pat, I’ll get you back for that!”
“Eek!” Patton jumped out of the way as Remus sent a stream at him.
Which caused poor Virgil to get drenched from the attack. He glared at both of them and sent water at everyone else, which finally caused things to fall into chaos as all of the students were now wet and trying to shoot each other. It had started out as them all trying to get revenge but quickly turned into a game as the teens dissolved into laughter and just began shooting each other for the fun of it.
The laughter didn’t last long-- or maybe it did? But no one had thought to keep track of the time- but getting back to my point, Remy was not happy when he walked in on his students having a water fight in the library. Especially not when he was shot by all seven of them upon entering the room.
“Okay, since you caused an absolute catastrophe with your first punishment, I have no choice but to make the second one harder.”
“Are you going to make us do more manual labour?” Roman asked.
“No, I don’t think anything of that kind won’t end up the same as-- well this!” He gestured to the soaked library. “What to do, what to do… ah-ha!”
“Oh, I don’t like that look on his face,” Remus whispered.
Indeed, none of them liked the dark grin that was plastered on their teacher’s face. They all shivered with dread from the anticipation of what kind of punishment they were going to face.
“You will all be writing your own independent papers on a historic magical event.”
And then everyone died.
Not really, no one actually died. I’m sorry if I misled you there. I meant that they all died inside, just a little, as one does when told they have to write a school paper. Especially when you realise you’ve just destroyed the library and have no sources to help you write said paper.
Dinner was unbelievably quiet as everyone was wallowing in agony over what to do about their assignment. Logan found himself distracted from such thoughts however as he noticed the minute change in the atmosphere.
Normally, there was tension during mealtimes, especially between Roman and Janus. Tonight however the dragon and elf seemed to be accepting or perhaps ignoring each other’s presence. For once there was complete peace among the teens and Logan came to a realisation.
In the past two days, they’d worked together, somewhat, and managed to do a lot more than they’d done alone. Okay, so technically the things they’d done was collect a bunch of forest ingredients, save Patton from a well, and destroy a library, but with proper coordination and teamwork, they could find ways to put their skills to use. And perhaps that would help them in the long run when it came time for the secondary license test.
Long story short, they needed to work together properly if they wanted to accomplish anything worthwhile. Which meant they needed to get along like this, preferably without wallowing in despair.
That brought Logan back to the problem at hand. The papers. With the library absolutely soaked where were they going to get-
“That’s it!”
Everyone jumped in their seats a little at Logan’s exclamation.
“Uh, did you figure something out?” Willow asked.
“Yes, I’ve come up with a solution to our paper problem to be exact.”
“Don’t keep us in suspense,” Virgil urged.
“We can use the library.”
Roman frowned. “It’s waterlogged, Genius. Remember?”
“Not that library. The one in town. They have an entire section on magical history and I happen to know someone who could help us find whatever we need.”
“If we’re going into town, can we also do some sightseeing?” Patton asked.
Remus grinned. “Yeah, we haven’t gotten to see anything apart from the manor and forest since we got here.”
Logan blinked in surprise. “Wait, what do you guys usually do on weekends when I visit the town?”
“You visit the town? I thought you just stayed in your room.” Janus said.
“Jan and I normally spend the day in the garden,” Willow answered. “I think we all just laze around the manor really.”
Everyone nodded affirmatively.
“Alright then, I suppose we can get some sightseeing done as soon as we find what we need at the library.”
---
“What are you gonna show them? The town well?” Everleigh remarked.
Logan shrugged. “I don’t know. They are the ones who want to do the sightseeing.”
Saturday had come and the entire class had taken a carriage into town. With any tension between them having been absolved since the water incident, they had openly spoken of their excitement at getting to go into town, despite having to do research for their papers at the library.
It was such a strange thing to think that his classmates who grew up in more interesting faraway places, would be so interested in his little hometown. He wondered if they would be disappointed when they realised how simple life here really was.
Roman and Remus had grown up on Lyrecrest Ilse, a well-known destination that many called an island paradise. Patton came from Sweetwater Cove, where the waters were said to be clear as glass. Willow and Janus were from the Evergreen Valley where many other demi-creatures and magical folk lived together in their own private communities. And Virgil… now that Logan thought about it, he didn’t know where Virgil was from, but it had to be somewhere just as exotic, if not more so.
Yet here they all were, eager to see his quiet hometown.
Everleigh had been waiting at the bakery, as always, to greet Logan when he came and was quite shocked to see the others he’d brought along with him. He took her aside and explained what had happened as briefly as possible without losing too much detail, while Emile was handing out breakfast pastries to his classmates.
“Hmm, this is absolutely delicious. Thank you, Mr Picani,” Patton said, and the others echoed their appreciation after him.
“It’s no problem kids. I’m glad you like these. They’re a new recipe I’m perfecting.”
“It tastes pretty perfect to me,” Remus complimented as he licked his fingers.
“Hey, the carriage is leaving,” Roman said, pointing outside.
“Yeah, the driver is taking the horses to be watered. He’ll come back this evening to take us home.” Remy explained.
“But how are we getting to the library?”
Janus snorted. “Ever heard of walking?”
Roman’s face morphed into an expression of mild dread and disbelief.
“The library is only twenty minutes from here,” Everleigh stated. “It’s not a long trek or anything.”
“We could probably get there even faster if we raced,” Remus suggested.
Willow’s ears perked up. “Race?”
Janus smirked. “Hey roman, I bet you couldn’t beat Willow there.”
Roman huffed. “I could beat all of you there.”
“You all don’t even know the way there,” Virgil pointed out.
“Uh, Everleigh and Logan could give us some directions,” Patton suggested.
“I’d be happy to provide directions if I can race too,” Everleigh said.
Willow grinned. “The more the merrier.”
After giving out directions and everyone lining up in what they determined was a fair starting line, the eight teenagers ran through the streets and arrived in front of the grand library in record time. They stood outside arguing for a few minutes, or rather Roman and Janus argued for a few minutes about Janus getting there via a piggy-back ride from Willow.
They came to the resolution that it didn’t matter since Willow had gotten there first, while carrying Janus, making her the winner. Everleigh had complimented Willow’s strength, causing them to blush furiously, and suggest they all went into the library.
“Okay, so you guys need magical history stuff, uh, that will be in the archives under magical research and/or supernatural events. Do you guys have anything specific in mind?” Everleigh asked as they stepped inside of the massive building.
“Woah, how many books are there here?” Janus asked as they looked around in awe.
“I have no idea, but we’ve got something for everyone, from fictional works and poetry to adventurer biographies and cookbooks.”
“What kinds of biographies do you have?” Willow inquired.
“Pretty much anything that’s printed for public distribution, plus a couple of private journals that have been donated from noble families. Do you have something in mind?”
“Um, well, there’s a book I read back home that I was thinking of using. The Quest of Nigel Hawk. there are a bunch of events in there that Nigel witnessed first hand that we could write about.”
“A primary source? That would be the best way to get whatever information we needed.” Logan said.
“What kind of events did Nigel see on this quest?” Patton asked.
“I don’t remember everything, but ze saw stars dancing on the ocean, met the grand phoenix and witnessed the birth of the first pegasus,” Willow recounted.
“Stars dancing on the ocean? Are you sure ze wasn’t just dreaming?” Remus asked.
“If I remember right, they were two spirits. The soul of the north star and her bride, a sailor from days long past. Nigel met them both on the night of their anniversary when they came down to celebrate with a dance, and they told him the story of how they got together.”
“That sounds so romantic! I’ll go see if I can find that book,” Everleigh said before disappearing between the tall bookshelves.
“Uh, do we just wait here for her or...?” Roman asked.
“She does this when she’s excited. We can just wait for her in the reading area,” Logan explained, motioning for everyone to follow him.
He led them to an area where there were several long tables with semi-comfortable chairs where they could sit. Once the group had sat down at one, Everleigh came from gods-know-where and plopped down a pile of thick tomes.
“This guy either lived a long life or an eventful one, but there are like eight different parts of his adventures in chronological order.”
“Why do I feel like this is going to be worse than I’d hoped,” Remus groaned.
Virgil raised an eyebrow. “You expected studying to be easy?”
“You make a good point, but there’s no need to stab me with it.”
“Well, we should probably get started, right?” Roman sighed and they all nodded. “Which is the first volume?”
“Uh, this one. I could read it aloud for you all,” Everleigh offered.
Patton clapped his hands together. “Oh, it’s like a storytime.”
“Yeah, but shh, we don’t want to get kicked out for making too much noise,” Logan warned.
“Oh, sorry.”
“It’s okay. The librarians are pretty lenient, but let’s keep the noise at a minimum.” Everleigh suggested. “And I’ll read this as softly as I can…”
The group listened to Everleigh read the first book of Nigel’s adventures for a while, then she passed the book to Logan who continued from where she left off. Basically, they all became enthralled with knowing what happened next and passed the story around to be read aloud as each reader got tired of reading. They all took turns and before they knew it they’d come to the end of the book.
“Holy Knights, that was a real twist,” Remus exclaimed.
Virgil nodded. “Right? Was anyone else feeling anxious there when Killian got hit by that arrow?”
“I thought he’d have died, honestly. It’s amazing that Gwen was able to heal him,” Patton said.
“I would have never guessed that was where healing magic came from. But it makes me curious about where other magics originated from,” Logan stated.
“Well, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I call dibs on Duncan’s coronation for my paper. That was one heck of a rebellion,” Roman declared.
“I think I’ll do my report on Odessa’s garden. That was a true masterpiece of romantic tragedy,” Janus remarked.
Willow snorted and Patton gave her a questioning look. “What’s so funny?”
“It just seems kind of ironic that Roman is doing a report on the first Dragon King and Janus is doing one about an elf heroine.”
Everyone exchanged glances and began laughing, except for Janus and Roman who just looked at their companions in complete confusion. While they were laughing, a librarian walked over to their table.
“Pardon, but I must request you all be quiet or take your merriment elsewhere.”
“Oh, sorry Jana, we’ll just- oh man, is that the time?” Everleigh asked when she noticed the clock in the corner was now at eleven-forty-eight.
“Yes, that’s the right time.” Jana answered.
Everleigh looked at the group. “I think we better get some lunch.”
The group exchanged some agreeing nods and got up from the table.
“Sorry for the trouble, Jana. we’ll head out now, uh, could you check out these books for me and i’ll swing by for them later?”
Jana looked at the books and sighed. “I suppose, but only if you leave now.”
“Sure thing. See ya!” Everleigh said before running off towards the exit with the others following her.
“What are we doing for lunch?” Remus asked the group. “Because I for one am starving.”
“We could check what there is in the market,” Logan suggested. “Remy and my dad won’t be expecting us until dinner time, so we can check out what’s there until then.”
“Oh yeah, we wanted to get some sightseeing in,” Roman remembered.
“Well, there’s no place to start like market street.” Everleigh declared. “Let’s go!”

“Oh, of course you don’t look suspicious at all.” Heather crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot as Harry and Ron came down the stairs towards her. “Who would ever suspect you, carrying your school bag on a Saturday morning?”
Harry moved his bag to rest behind him instead of to his side. He crossed his arms back at her. “I’m just going to do some studying in the library after Ron leaves.” He looked around at the empty corridor but there was no need, everyone was at breakfast already, eager to get the day started.
She rolled her eyes. “We’ll both ‘go study’ today.”
They sat down with everyone and ate, trying to look somewhere between sad and bored and not at all excited to get down to Hogsmeade. They were careful not to look down the table at Hermione, who had told Harry last night she’d tell on him and get the map confiscated if she thought they were leaving the castle. Ron left, winking at them and saying ‘See you soon’, leaving them to finish eating their food slowly, looking miserable, as everyone else got up to leave and line up for Hogsmeade.
Hermione walked up to them, pushing against the river of students and sat down next to Harry, pushing her frizzy hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry. I really am but you must understand… It’s for your own good.”
“It’s ok. We’re just going to be studying in the library, I guess. Get some homework done so we have more free time.” Harry looked absolutely pitiful as he moved his breakfast around with his fork.
“Alright… I’m sorry.” Hermione got up and hugged Heather before running out the great hall.
The only people left were the second and first years, and a couple of teachers who hadn’t finished breakfast yet. They calmly got up and walked out, making sure to head up the entrance hall stairs before waving down to Ron and Hermione who both waved up at them with very different looks.
They hurried up to the third floor and opened up the one eyed witch. While Harry shoved his bag inside Heather opened up the map and scanned the halls. A tiny set of footprints were heading their way.
“Harry!” she hissed. “Neville’s coming!”
“How close?”
“Harry! Heather!” Neville had spotted them around the corner.
Harry quickly closed the witch’s hump and stepped back. They stood against the opposite wall as far back from the witch as possible to avoid suspicion.
“Neville. You aren’t going to Hogsmeade?” Heather slipped Harry the map and he stuffed it in his pocket. “Oh, I forgot.”
Neville stopped right next to them. “It’s part of my punishment. Hey what are you two doing? We could play exploding snap together! I’ve gotten good… kind of.”
Heather and Harry looked at each other.
Harry nodded. “Oh, that’d be great… But I have that vampire essay to do for Lupin. We’ll be in the library…”
Neville’s eyes brightened. “Oh, could I join? I haven’t done it either – ”
“N-no… oh Harry, remember we did it last night?” Heather put her hand on Neville’s shoulder. “Sorry we can’t work on it together.”
“You could help me with it then!”
It was clear Neville was desperate for company. They must be the only three people in their year not down in Hogsmeade right now. Maybe they could bring him along? Although it’d be hard to hide under the cloak with him… he was a bit larger than Ron and it was hard enough with just the two of them.
“Er – ” Harry was about to respond when Neville gasped and stepped all the way in front of them, looking over their shoulders.
They turned around and saw Professor Snape walked up to them with arms crossed and narrowed eyes.
“And what… are you three doing here?” His eyes slid from Neville to Heather and stayed on Harry. “An odd place to meet up with friends, isn’t it? – Potter.”
Heather watched Professor Snape’s eyes flick to either side of them, to the closed classroom doors, and then to the one-eyed witch a few feet away. He narrowed his eyes at it and raised a single black brow, looking back at them. He looked as suspicious as Hermione had during breakfast, the same doubtful kind of suspicion.
“We didn’t mean to meet up here we just – ” Harry looked at Heather, “…happened to.”
“Really.” Professor Snape drummed his fingers on his elbow and took a few more seconds to cast them wary eyes. “It’s often your habit to turn up in places you aren’t supposed to be in – especially – places you shouldn’t be in.” He looked from Harry to Heather and she looked down. “I suggest the three of you find somewhere else to be, like your common rooms. I believe I should have assigned enough essays to keep you busy this weekend?”
They nodded and turned on their heels, heading away. Harry turned to look back at him as they rounded a corner but Heather pulled him forward. They walked all the way up to Gryffindor Tower when Heather stopped and pulled Harry to a halt.
“Harry, will you drop me off at my common room?”
Neville was holding the portrait open.
“Oh – er – yeah. It’s on the way to the library and… I forgot I left the essay there last night. See you, Neville.”
“I’ll get my textbook down,” he said and went inside.
“I feel bad for lying to him. Can’t we – ”
“No.” Harry pulled her away and took out the map as he went down the stairs. Once they were away from the security trolls guarding the portrait he pulled it up to his nose and squinted at the tiny words. “Passage is clear. Snape’s on the second floor. Why’s he always just walking around?”
They headed down the stairs to the third floor again, examining the map one last time for anyone nearby.
“His office now. And – ” Harry continued. “He examined the statue. D’you think he knows about it?”
Heather opened the witch’s hump and waited for him to clear the map and put it away. “No, or he would have found your bag.” She pushed it aside and walked in, careful not to slip and fall down the incline. She lit her wand the second the statue closed behind her, before they could be cast in total darkness.
The passage walls looked rough where the light hit as they walked, their steps echoing slightly. It was an odd kind of quiet inside, like the whole world was suddenly muffled. Outside the tunnel, walking around even the quietest of passageways, distant talking or laughter or even birds singing and cawing outside could be heard. Inside the tunnel, it was like silence was the permanent state of things and the thought of talking felt rude and disrespectful to the darkness up ahead.
They walked for several minutes before the eeriness set in, and her mind wandered to places it shouldn’t. The same kind of fear that they weren’t alone in the tunnel, and that Sirius Black would be waiting for them some feet ahead crept in more powerfully than the first time they walked through the tunnel. She was leading the way and hesitating with each step she took, holding her wand out as far as she could, willing the light to reach farther ahead.
“D’you think Ron and Hermione will ever be friends again?” she asked, attempting to distract her mind and calm her racing heart as they walked.
“Why would he examine the statue? He must think something.”
She couldn’t believe he was still stuck on Professor Snape. “Harry. He isn’t an idiot you know. All Slytherins know he can smell out trouble a floor away and you’re always getting in the middle of things that get us into trouble. I’m pretty sure I’d be top of his class if he didn’t hold a grudge against me because of you.”
“But I haven’t done anything this year.”
“You’re doing something right now.”
“WE’RE doing something.”
She decided not to respond. They reached the end of the tunnel eventually and, under the invisibility cloak, they emerged out of Honeydukes and looked around for Ron, spotting him sitting on a bench across the street, eating candy.
They walked up to him and Heather kicked his foot lightly. “Here. Finally.”
“What took you so long!” Ron frowned and got up, stuffing his candy back in his pockets. “It’s been an hour.”
They set off down the street walking next to Ron as he tried his best not to look like he was talking to himself.
“Snape was hanging around the statue.”
“Harry thinks it’s weird Professor Snape was suspicious of us.”
“He was suspicious of the statue.”
“If he knew about it he would have told Dumbledore.” Ron tried to keep most of his mouth shut as he talked. “Or he would have hidden in the tunnel waiting to catch you. It would’ve made his day – or life – depending on how many detentions that gets you.”
“Or he’s caught Fred and George around there too.” Heather wondered how Fred and George managed their mischief with him around. She never saw them in the same room together, apart from breakfast and dinner. Maybe they purposefully stay as far away from him as possible… with the map that would have been easy, just taking opposite stairs or walking down different passageways.
“In here,” Ron said out of the corner of his mouth, stopping right outside the Owl Post.
He pretended to look at cards to send to his brother Bill in Egypt while her and Harry looked around. The Owl post was a small looking shop two levels high, except it had only one floor. Walking in, there was a front desk and hundreds of different letter-related things in organized clear drawers all around the first level walls. Then, up high above their heads were hundreds of owls hooting and looking down at them, twisting their heads in curiosity.
Heather had the feeling they could see them under the cloak, but none came down to inspect them, not even when Heather tempted fate and held her arm up under the cloak to see if one would land on it. Harry pinched her and she tried not to yelp, quickly putting her arm back down.
“Where are you?” Ron muttered.
They pulled on his sweater and they left.
“Zonko’s next.”
They followed Ron into the shop and found it incredibly hard to remain hidden surrounded by so many students and children packed all around looking at products. Heather hated it inside, being reminded of the only time they’d been in a toy store with Dudley and his greedy hands touching every toy he could reach. Back then she’d been taller than both Harry and Dudley and was forced to reach up and grab things for him. The fact she nor Harry were allowed to touch anything made the experience much worse.
Harry, however, happily gave Ron coins to buy several jokes and tricks. He stuffed his pockets with Dungbombs, Hiccup Sweets, Frog Spawn Soap, and Nose-Biting Teacup apiece.
“I hope you aren’t planning on using those.”
“Who are you? Hermione?” Ron said bitterly.
What little Hagrid’s talk did for Ron yesterday had been quickly erased by Hermione’s threat and he was back to hating her. The wind threatened to blow the cloak off them and they decided it’d be best to get away from the town. It was a nice day aside from the cold and Ron thought it would be less scary to visit the Shrieking Shack.
“I tried going up here last time with – well you know who – but the snow made it hard to look at properly. I thought there was someone on the lawn but it was just a snowflake stuck to my eyelash.”
For it supposedly being the most haunted dwelling in all of Britain, it didn’t look so scary. It looked like it was swaying in the wind, ready to topple onto itself any second. The paint was a dark cream color and the roof a light grey. The windows were all boarded up and the door had several chains on it. There were surprisingly no visible holes or missing boards but it still looked like it was falling apart. It looked lonely and sad, not scary.
“Creepy,” Harry said.
“What’s supposed to be so scary about it?”
Ron leaned on the fence and swallowed. “No one can get into it – Fred and George tried of course – but it’s sealed shut. But everyone in town swears at one point or another, they’ve heard terrifying sounds coming from inside. I asked some of the ghosts about it and they say they avoid it and warn students to avoid it too.”
It was the only house on the hill and hidden safely behind a forest of short and thin grey trees with almost black looking leaves all dried but still hanging onto their branches. Whatever noises the town heard must come from something incredibly loud to travel all the way down passed the woods.
“It’s getting hot under here.” Harry reached for the bottom of the cloak when he stopped.
Heather heard Draco before seeing him climb over the hill, walking the dirt path between the tree lines towards them.
“ – remind me about the owl I’ll be getting from my Father. I’m sure the hearings going well. He’s telling them I couldn’t use my arm for three whole months.”
Crabbe and Goyle sniggered behind them, a little more winded than him from climbing.
“Imagine that big hairy moron trying to defend that stupid bird. ‘He won’ ‘arm anyone, honest. He’s innocent, he is – ‘ can you imagine?” He shook his head and spotted Ron suddenly. His smile turned into a wicked grin and his quick steps slowed and smoothed. “Ah, Weasley. House hunting, are you? Bit of a dream house for you though, isn’t it?”
Ron’s face went red as he scowled. “Leave me alone Malfoy.”
“I supposed it’d be a big step up. Maybe with this one, your family won’t have to all sleep in the same room. And you won’t be sleeping in a cupboard – oh wait, that the Potters, isn’t it?” Draco laughed and looked at Crabbe and Goyle happily as they laughed too.
Heather felt her own cheeks go red at the mention of their old room situation. Ron took a step forward but Harry pulled on the back of his shirt.
“I’ll take care of him,” Harry hissed into Ron’s red ear.
“No!” Heather tried protesting but there wasn’t much she could do unless she wanted Harry to walk away, cloak and all.
Heather followed Harry around behind Crabbe and Goyle and crouched down with him as he picked up mud.
“Don’t,” she tried again but he didn’t listen.
“We were just talking about that oaf friend of yours. Well, you know him best. D’you think he’ll cry at the mention of that hippogriff getting its head – ”
Harry quickly stuck his muddy hand out from under the cloak and flung as hard as he could, hitting the back of Draco’s head, covering his silver-blonde hair with thick brown muck.
Draco whipped around, looking angrily behind them. “What was that!” His anger melted into confusion when his frantic eyes spotted no one.
Harry and Heather had crept back around to stand to their far left. Harry picked up a moss covered stick and flung it, hitting Crabbe wetly on his neck.
“Argh!” Crabe started punching the air, taking quick steps towards them with every punch he gave.
“I think you made the house mad, Malfoy.” Ron leaned against the fence, pointing a thumb towards the swaying shack.
Draco finished rubbing the mud off him when he seized Ron’s sweater. “You’re doing this!”
SPLAT.
“It’s got me!” Goyle wiped green-ish mud off his uniform.
Draco swirled around, looking at Goyle and Crabbe hitting and kicking at the air. Heather was crouching down, covering her mouth with her hands trying not to burst out laughing. Harry was standing above her, ready to throw a stick when one of Crabbe’s kicks caught a bit of the cloak and pulled it down.
Harry quickly caught it at his neck and pulled it back up but Draco had already spotted him, pointing and screaming at where Harry’s head had appeared and then disappeared. Crabbe and Goyle hadn’t seen but ran back down the hill as soon as Draco yelled. Draco ran after them, looking somewhere between angry and scared.
Ron pointed down the hill. “You guys better run! He’s probably on his way to tell on you! Get to the castle fast – ”
“See you!” Harry yelled and pulled Heather up by her arms.
She had been frozen with dread the second Draco had pointed in their direction and screamed. As they ran down the path to Hogsmeade, she couldn’t help but picture him bursting through the doors screaming at the top of his lungs that he’d ‘just seen Potter in Hogsmeade!’ at everyone.
They got down to the town and the first thing she spotted was the apothecary sign swaying in the wind across from the Three Broomsticks.
“Wait!” She ducked out from under and ran in.
If she was going to get in trouble for going into Hogsmeade, then she had to make it at least worth it. She slammed the list down on the counter and huffed at the old man staring at her red and sweaty face. He took it without a word and started putting it all together in a white cloth bag. She could hardly enjoy the experience, thinking about whether anyone would believe Draco. It wasn’t common to have a cloak, and Draco probably thought Harry or any other non-pureblood wouldn’t have one… but Professor Dumbledore knew they did. And she was sure Professor Snape, even if he didn’t know about the cloak, would be highly suspicious of them.
The old man set the bag of ingredients on the counter and waited for her to count up her coins. He gave her a polite nod as she handed them over and picked up her things, running back out of the store. She looked around wildly but found absolutely no hint of where Harry was. Did he leave her?
Just as her panic began to worsen, she felt something push her into the alley between shops and she ducked under the cloak again.
“You’re mad!” Harry hissed. “Let’s go!”
The apothecary hadn’t taken any longer than five minutes max, but it felt like she had doomed them already. She stuffed the bag strings through her skirt belt loops and tied it closed, stuffing the bag up into her sweater and stuffing the sweater end into her skirt, keeping the bag of ingredients tucked inside neatly.
They ran inside Honeydukes, slipped in the back shop door, and down the stairs into the trap door. Heather could only hope, as they ran as fast as they could, wands lit and extended out, that the tunnel was a shorter distance than the path leading up to the school.
