THE WHIRLWIND
GENRES: Drama, Political Procedural
SUMMARY: One man will stop at nothing to root out corruption in the highest ranks of government, one step at a time.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Phone calls, slush funds, chaebols pulling government strings, safe houses, cliffs, pant suits, comas, traumatic memories, hidden cameras, hidden recorders, press conferences, backstabbing, grave visits, and election tension.
HOT TAKE: I haven't seen this much back-and-forth scheming since watching 'Doctor Prisoner.' Everyone has an answer for every turn against them and they came up with it four steps ago.
Corruption in government is sadly something that we're also living with in the real world. I would say that the only redeeming value to watching something similar to our own news cycle is that here the bad guys get their due punishment, but it does take a whole 12 eps to get to that satisfaction.
Here's hoping we see it too.

Whisper. / Gwitsotmal 7
Story: 6
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Stranger (kdrama); Punch (kdrama); Cruel City (kdrama)
Going into this you’re going to have to sort of switch your moral brain off, especially if you’re watching for the romance. Everyone is a total asshat, especially the main male lead. The chemistry between both main leads are beyond excellent, just morally questionable. I mean the only sort of decent moral compass character is the female lead, even though she does some black mailing herself, to the male lead. To me the the male lead, Lee Sang Yoon’s character, was a total scumbag. Especially throughout the first half. Essentially the whole drama is about who can betray who the most. I can’t count how many times each character double crossed each one another. Was it entertaining, yeah. I quite enjoyed it. I did however fast forward through some scenes.

Women considered to be the most beautiful in Korean History - Part 1
More than a century ago, a remarkable group of women known as Kisaengs captivated the elite with their captivating performances, without ever compromising their dignity.
These extraordinary women, often referred to as the celebrities of their era, were renowned for their beauty and talent, as evidenced by historical records that ranked the most enchanting kisaengs of that time!
Oh San-wol (오산월;吳山月)
Tumblr media
Oh San Wol, a gisaeng from Pyongyang in the 1920s, remains a mysterious figure due to the lack of detailed information about her background and life. Despite the scarcity of material, her photos have managed to capture attention because of her stunning beauty. She was known to have been a graduate of the Pyeongyang Gisaeng School, gaining immense popularity among men during the Joseon Dynasty era. Her fame was measured by the number of postcards featuring her image that were sold, indicating her widespread appeal.
Tumblr media
Kisaeng's Oh San-wol (오산월) and Lim Chun-hong (임춘홍) posing together for a picture.
At the time they were both among the best kisaeng's of there time.
Tumblr media
Both in black and white and colour and remastered.
Tumblr media
I'm not shore where this picture came fronm, i think a book, but it talks about Oh Sal-wol and Lee Chun-hong. This is what the text says in Korean:
I hope the translation makes sense in English:
Gisaeng Osanwol (吳) Osan Wall, a famous kisaeng of the time. (photo left) Sanwol watched my nahoe as if she was busy this evening. 'Flood payment! Gisaeng says that there is a pack of fresh water...……………." San-Wol followed the taste of his hair and opened the mirror with a bag. After looking at my face for a long time, let alone a water nip, Bo-hi, who was over 30, threw out the mirror and sighed, "Done guy!" as his habit. This "Done guy" of San-Wol always refers to two guys. One guy was a mere mortician to San-Ill five or five years ago, and it seems like San-Wol is doing the same thing. He began to poke at San-Ill's opium, exposed San-Wol's aldon of 4,000 won, died of poison at home, and later, San-Wol was cut off from the writing of the invoice. The other guy is Yoon-ga (哥), who cooled San-Wol from the police station dozens of times. He was 24 years old in spring, and after a night of dream value was spent on a straight stone that couldn't do anything like this, San-Wol's every-buckled nose was just a brush or two, but a special porcelain bag, and no matter how hard he was called into a corner, he might have stopped his neck and went to the cliff……………….
Lee Chun-hong, Oh Sang-wol, <Byeolgungon> No. 25 (1930)
Tumblr media
When i looked further down the page i found these only two comments the last one being my favourite. I love the roaring 20s fashion especially in eastern countries like Korea, China and Japan.
In 1918, Oh San Wol was part of the Pyeongyang Association, a group that included other notable kisaengs such as Kwon Yeong-wol, Kim Geum-pa, and Park Geum-hong. Details about these women, including their backgrounds, skills, and current addresses, were documented in the 1918 publication 『朝鮮美人寶鑑』. Oh San Wol's image was also featured on postcards during the Japanese colonial period, alongside another famous kisaeng named Lim Chun-hong. These postcards were widely circulated and even appeared in newspapers multiple times, highlighting the popularity of these talented women during the early 20th century.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two picture are of Oh Sal-wol in Western styles clothing both in black and white and colour. Because Kisaeng's enjoyed there fame and popularity compared to modern celebrities, they were lavishly dressed up in fur coats and Western style clothes.
The kisaengs of that time were not only known for their beauty but also for their skills in various art forms such as dance, singing, calligraphy, and painting. They were graduates of specialized schools that provided modern education, transforming them into well-rounded artists.
Tumblr media
Oh San Wol and her contemporaries were not just entertainers but also respected figures in society, showcasing their talents and charm through their performances and appearances on postcards that have since become iconic symbols of that era.
Tumblr media
I found this blog that shows the front and the back of the photo postcard of Oh Sal-wol. Oh Sal-wol's popularity among men was so immense that the benchmark for measuring popularity back then was the number of photo postcards men bought, and it was widely believed that she sold the highest amount.
Tumblr media
I also found this picture on Café Naver .
Tumblr media
Comments at the end of the blog, I'm not sure what the word means?

Tumblr media
Namun, Hong Ju tersadar kalau adegan tadi hanyalah mimpinya semata.
Eh taunya cuma mimpinya Hongju[sic!]," tulis seorang warganet. "Kirain beneran, mukanya cool bgt nyantuy, DEG DEG AN WOIII[sic!]," tambah yang lain.
"Shock banget untung cuma bayangan si hongju[sic!]," sahut warganet lainnya.
Sayangnya, "Serendipity's Embrace" hanya memiliki total 8 episode saja.

The Grotesque Mansion / The Night Shift. (movie) 7
Story: 7
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Strangers From Hell (kdrama) ; Goedam (kmovie)
So this is a semi horror (more leaning on thriller type) with multiple stories intertwined into one type of deal. It does work out well with small twists here and there. I’m not sure if I like the drama version more then the movie version since the drama version explores a tiny (very tiny) bit more details on the characters. 🤷‍♀️ it’s still a nice watch nonetheless.

Moon Chae-won woke up after being stabbed with a weapon..
Tumblr media
Moon Chae-won of 'Bob' woke up.
On the afternoon of the 27th, in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Beopjeon', the scene of Moon Chae-won, who was hospitalized after being hit by a weapon, regained consciousness was broadcast.
On this day, Eun-yong (Lee Seon-gyun), who handed over the information to Hong Hanna (Kim Hye-hwa), started a reverse operation, saying that he would hit short sellers with grass. When Eun-yong thought about Chairman Myeong's (Kim Hong-pa) choice, Hanna Hong said, "I'm sure," and when asked about Jang Tae-chun (Kang Yoo-seok), she said, "I couldn't contact him for a while, but he borrowed money a few days ago."
Hearing from Nam (Choi Deok-moon) that Kim Seong-tae's (Lee Geon-myung) gang seems to be dealing drugs, Jang Tae-chun set foot in a gambling house.
While investigating Yoo Chang-hae undercover, the police found Jang Tae-choon following him. Jang Tae-choon, whose identity was discovered by Kim Seong-tae's gang, was in danger of being arrested, and the police were dispatched to rescue him. Let each of us do our duty. The police are at the scene and the prosecutor is in court.”
In response to Jang Tae-chun's apology, the police said, "Lee Jin-ho (Won Hyeon-jun), who is wanted, I am aware of the intelligence that he is being supplied with drugs. go to the hospital Park Joon-kyung (Moon Chae-won) is back in consciousness.”

Korean Drama Review Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2 RDTK2
Tumblr media
Sigh, I entered another kdrama drought. I scanned through It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Flower of Evil. There are some things good about them but to me, they are not suitable for me to watch episode by episode. Perhaps for It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, it is dRoue to the setting? I felt that there is not enough thrill. For Flower of Evil, it is crime-related so I skipped through the cases. Felt that…
