Top Shower Waterproof Paint
Tumblr media
The most straightforward option for shower walls is to paint them with long-lasting, bathroom-safe paint. Waterproof paint for shower tiles, latex enamel, oil-based enamel, and specialty bathroom paint are all options for use in bathrooms. Most bathroom paints for tiles or walls are semi-gloss, and the glossier they are, the more water-resistant and easy to clean they are.
If you want painted shower walls, you can choose from a variety of colors. A wide range of colors is available, just like with non-waterproof paints. To maintain water resistance over time, painted walls require more attention and maintenance than other options. A solid backing is required for any waterproof bathroom paint.
You can find the best waterproof paint for shower walls in our reviews to prevent leaks when you least expect them. (Learn More About Enamel Paint)
Why Do You Need Waterproof Paint For Showers?
Because bathrooms are damp, moisture should be your primary concern when painting your walls. Moisture has two effects on the walls of your bathroom. Damp air accumulates on the walls as a result of steamy baths and showers. There’s also water splashed on the walls from the tub or sink. Moisture can damage the paint if it penetrates the paint layer and comes into contact with the drywall or plaster beneath.
This can result in paint peeling and mold growth. Moisture cannot penetrate the paint layer if it is permeable. Even before mildew-resistant paints were introduced, the most common way of dealing with bathroom moisture was to use high-gloss paints. The higher the gloss, the better the paint finish performs in toilets. In older bathrooms, high-gloss finishes on all surfaces are popular. While high-gloss paints do not prevent mildew, they make cleaning up those drippy, brown stains that are common in bathrooms a breeze. (Read more about Enamel vs Acrylic Paint.)
Several interior house products are abandoning the bathroom paint name in favor of creating paints to combat moisture. Interior Acrylic Latex Paint, like Bath Paint, is antimicrobial and can be used on trim, walls, and ceilings. In a wet setting, a flat finish is porous and absorbs moisture, whereas a glossy finish causes water to bead and runoff.
Waterproof bathroom paint is more expensive than other interior paints, but it is possible to find high-quality paint that will last in the bathroom. Because bathrooms are small, the amount of thick sealed paint required is usually less than that required in a standard room. If a low-sheen finish is not required in your bathroom, a good-quality satin, semi-gloss, or high-gloss regular paint with antimicrobial additives is washable. It has a steam and moisture-resistant finish, so that should be enough.

Thanks for asking! No need to apologize, I love this question 💜🖤
Violet Harmon-inspired Paint Colors:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1: Sherwin-Williams "Great Green"
#2: KILZ "Foggy Promenade"
#3: Benjamin Moore "Lavender Mist"
#4: Glidden "Dusty Mauve"
If you can't find these, or if these paints aren't available where you live, any sage green, light blue/muted blue, dusty lavender, and pink-ish purple or mauve colors should work the same.
Violet's wall color:
I’m a little conflicted about Violet's room color; in some pictures it looks like a muted light blue or periwinkle, and in other pictures it almost looks teal. Here’s some pictures of her walls:

Because these pictures were taken with the flash on, it makes me think that a dull blue is the genuine color of the room instead of teal.
I hope this was helpful :)

The Contractor Chapter 4 Moving In
AO3
His men grouse as they clean an area for, “her royal pain in the arse,” as Angus puts it.

“This is her house. We are just hired help. It will do you both good to remember that.” His stern glance meets theirs. They both squirm.

“Aye Jamie.” Rupert gathers the rubbish into a bag.

“As you say. She just needs to stay out of the way.” Angus gathers the broom and dust bin, carrying them out. Jamie exams the space. He is satisfied.

A clean wooden floor, smelling of wood shavings ( now removed). It shines under it’s new stain. The walls are likewise clean if bare. Stone covered in wood, painted over with a coat of Kilz to protect against mold. It will be painted when Claire decides on a color.

On a far wall, the ancient fireplace reigns. Old brick and stone, it is the centerpiece of the room. It was cleaned and tested, certified safe. All loose stones and bricks, re-secured. It is laid out in case she wishes a fire .

She arrives at noon after spending the morning with her son. She stops, staring wide eyed at the transformed room.

“The walls will be painted as you wish. Carpet or rugs laid according to your preference.” Jamie explains. He leans against the door frame, watching her take it in.

“This is excellent work Mr. ahh, Jamie. Maybe a few throw rugs but I love the wooden floors. As for wall color, I don’t know yet. Can I get back to you?” She turns to face him and he stands straight.

“Aye Sassanach.”

“I will just place a bed in here. Not even that, more a cot, so it is easily moved out of the way.”

He nods. “Whatever you wish.”

“I really will try to make it easy on you.”

Really try, he thinks. That isn’t a definite. Oh well, as he told the lads, this is her home. “We will be working upstairs and on the stairs themselves.”

“Thanks.”

“Do you need help with your cot, before I leave?”

“No, but I thank you.” He nods, half bows to her, before departing.

They soon hear her pulling it in. It seems she has it and they return to work.

Installing Wallpaper
At the point when you need to have wallpaper installed in your home, think about these things. Wallpaper has a life span over paint. It will outlive paint 8 to 1. It gives your walls that "Amazing" you can't get with paint. Properly installed it will keep going quite a while and can be removed effectively when applied over a good primer/sealer. The harrowing tales I have seen when a project worker or home click here to learn more proprietor has installed wallpaper over an unacceptable primer over my 27 years in the business have given this industry an undeserving terrible name.
Assuming you are removing old wallpaper prior to installing new, utilize a good stripping arrangement that can be sprayed through a good 1 1/2 lady. siphon up garden sprayer. First you should strip the face (the printed surface) off before the arrangement will enter the support. Try to cover all electrical plates with channel tape to forestall any water coming in touch with them. Try not to be shy with the amount you put into the sprayer and don't be shy on the amount you spray on the wall. Fill the sprayer with warm water to assist the arrangement with entering better. Cover the floor with painters drop fabrics or utilize a few towels to retain the run off. I like to spray a few light covers on the wall, holding up around 3 to 5 in the middle between. Allow the answer for accomplish the work. The sponsorship paper ought to begin to air pocket and you can begin attempting to strip, scratch the easing off. Make a point not to gouge the walls not any more that you need to. In the event that the walls were ready with a good primer/sealer, the sponsorship ought to come off clean. In the event that they were not, say a request since you will doubtlessly harm the wall surface attempting to remove the sponsorship.
On the off chance that the walls are painted, you are ready to apply a good primer/sealer that will set up the surface for the new wallpaper. I like two groups "Zinzer 1-2-3 and" Kilz Premium". there are others available that function admirably and are recommended for wallpaper, however I have involved these two for quite a long time and have had good success with both.
However, if it's not too much trouble, note: These won't deal with a High sparkle or oil surface. For those walls you should utilize an item called "Gripper" Most educated Paint stores can assist you with this. Make preparations and let dry over night.
Installing wallpaper isn't the best thing in the world everybody. It takes a unique expertise and bunches of persistence. That being said, I will attempt to share my insight throughout the course of recent years to offer you the best guidance that I would be able.
While selecting the wallpaper, there are a few things to recollect. Shinny wraps up on wallpaper will quite often feature any surface or flaws on the walls that are to be covered. On the off chance that you are managing a finished wall, attempt and pick a wallpaper that will camouflage (stow away) the surface. The other choice is have a sheet rock project worker come in a smooth out the surface. A few surfaces are less observable than others. Know that dark colored wallpapers will quite often show their appears to be somewhat more that light colors. Enormous rehashes in the example match will cause more waste and more wallpaper. A few wallpapers are pre-glued and some are not.

Kitchen Closet Part Two: Big Plans for a Little Space
(If you haven't read Part One, start here) Remember how terrifying the under-the-stairs-closet aka Kitchen Cave was looking in our last installment? It's looking much less horrifying. But it's not ready yet, because just when I am about to kinda half-ass something, J abandons her sensible nature and decides we need a beautiful closet, not just a functional one.
It's also not ready yet because we both work full time and have lives. Our mistake!
But in between working and living and beginning to totally restore the upstairs bathroom, we have had time to get somewhere with the closet. The exposed stairs had been half painted white and were stained, grimy, and very gross. We've primed them with Kilz and caulked them, and also primed the plywood floor as well. (You may be wondering why the floor is plywood. I looked in the cellar to see if the original floor was there, and it's not. It looks like there was a staircase down to the cellar at one point that was removed. That also seems to have something to do with the "temporary" support columns down there. We'll add it to the "ask a structural engineer" list.) Enjoy a little Before & After of our progress!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The door frame was (is) in horrible shape, and had been painted white over cream around the fridge, so some of it was... still cream. Thankfully, I have some white trim paint hanging around just because. I never thought I'd be so excited to hit something in my own home with the landlord special, but that's what the door frame got! The impact that white paint has had cannot possibly be overstated. Someday we'll actually fix the door frame, but that day is not today.
There was a shelf above the fridge when it was in the closet, and that shelf is made of the same plywood the floor is. There's a bit of space at the back of the closet that needs covering to even it all out for some laminate, and thankfully we have a free plywood scrap that fits the bill! Yeah, I said laminate. It's awful, I know. But it's a closet! And it's plywood! And we have so many visible parts of the house to spend money on beautifying. It just didn't seem worth even another dollar per square foot to use bamboo. I hopped on FB marketplace and found someone's insanely cheap (and low quality, but whatever) leftover stick-on vinyl planks in a decent color, and we're going to slap that straight on the plywood. J grimaced about it but agreed. There's a lot of shit to fix in this house, we may as well save where we can. Of course the plaster is cracked and in some places crumbling. I ordered a "homeowners" Plaster Magic kit and that's the next step in this journey. These walls were only ever hit with one light lime wash, so no paint stripping required to fix and then lime paint the walls. I thought we were going to paint the walls some version of white, put a cheap light in there, and call it a closet. However, after what felt like an hour of deliberation in the lighting section at Home Depot, we decided to go online instead and buy an attractive light fixture instead of a more utilitarian option. J, it turns out, wants a pretty closet, given that we'll be looking inside it every day. I was surprised, but happy to oblige. While we were shopping on the internet, we ordered rod brackets so we can hang our coats, and a tension rod. Someday we'll have closet door to match the other (seven!) doors in the space, but in the meantime, a curtain's going to have to serve.
Since we decided to make the space a bit nicer, we picked a cute blush color for the walls, Native from Color Atelier.

Looking forward to learning about plaster repair! Will post about it next time :)

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Rehabbing A Home
Beginners and seasoned investors alike are prone to making mistakes. Most mistakes can be easily avoided by just listening to people talking at your local REIA group or meet up sessions.
Some mistakes are minor and have little impact on the end result of selling or renting your property when others can become nightmares. This will not be the only portion I write on mistake but this one I am sure will affect everyone somehow.
Tumblr media
One of the most guaranteed things you will have to do in your own house or investment property is painting. If you do it yourself or hire it out, you MUST know and follow this advice. You can not paint latex paint over oil-based paint anytime. It will peel and flake badly within about 3 to six months. Also, the paint will easily chip and scrape off as latex paint does not adhere to oil-based paint. You can however paint latex paint over an oil-based primer. I always use oil-based primer and sealer in one, such as KILZ or ZINZER. This will prime, seal in any stains and can be painted over with any latex paint.
To know what type of paint you are painting over, there are a few ways to test the surfaces and paint over it correctly. You all may have heard of Goof Off, a canned liquid whose claim is that it removes dried latex paint. This costs about $5 in hardware stores for about 4 ounces. Squirt this on a white rag and lightly scrub an area on walls, trim, windows, doors and gutters or whatever you are going to paint. If it melts the paint on to the rag, its latex paint and you can easily just paint over it with latex, no problem. If all it does is clean the surface and no paint melts onto the rag, it is oil-based paint and must be painted with oil again.
There is another way to avoid having to paint the oil-based paint. If you use an oil-based primer/sealer (KILZ) to prime the previously painted surfaces, you can paint latex on top of the oil-based primer and from here to eternity you can just paint latex on you house. That is how you change an oil painted house to being the easier latex painted house forever. You may also use XYLENE or DENATURED ALCOHOL instead of Goof Off. This will insure that your painted surfaces resist peeling away.
Another mistake is how do it yourselfers and painters paint cabinets and paneling in properties. The finished product can show runs, drips and brush marks making the job look shotty. To paint any stained surface, first wipe it down with white vinegar in full strength with a sponge or cloth. This will remove grease from cabinets and oils from wood stains and paneling. Then I apply one coat of Kilz oil-based primer. Before I apply the primer/sealer, I have it tinted to the same color I am painting the cabinets or paneling (usually a white color). With the white vinegar and the sealer/primer applied, I am positive that my latex paint will now stick. But here is the kicker !!! No matter what brand of paint you use (I use BEHR marquee from Home Depot) It MUST say “self leveling” latex paint. This self leveling paint is designed to dry smooth as glass and never leave brush marks or runs on the surface. Most people even pro painters, do not use my vinegar, sealer/primer and self leveling paint techniques and end up with cabinets that have runs drips and brush marks and paneling that will lets stains seep through within a short time after painting and will certainly look bad and need repainting.
I have hundreds more techniques to share that will stop costly mistakes and I plan on writing about them all. But until then, you can always follow PeteYoungs.com

Not a bad deal, this 1888 home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a lot of house and if you like color, the current residents really loved it, too. ($389k) I mean, look at the windows and that porte cochere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a beautiful green door and screened porche back here. It’s going to need some work, like painting the window panes, but the porch looks fairly new.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a dramatic entrance hall. Beautiful wood and a fireplace. I’m not that fond of the color combo they chose. It needs a good cleaning, some sanding, stain, and polishing, and the wood should brighten right up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This built-in is so beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the large formal dining room, there are beamed ceilings, a fireplace and a fabulous built-in china cabinet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sitting rooms are gigantic, the pocked doors are still intact, and so are the original fireplaces, but they need some work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This sitting room is such a saturated orange, it’s going to take gallons of Kilz, if the new owner wants to change it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hands down one of the very best kitchen reno’s I’ve seen. Just look at the red stove.
Tumblr media
And, how about this drainboard sink?
Tumblr media
Love the sun porch, it has potential to be gorgeous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bathroom on the landing is accessible from both floors. Interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stairs and window on the landing are just stunning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very large main bedroom with a fireplace and alcove. This is very nice.
Tumblr media
The bedrooms are surprisingly bright. This one has a great window seat and it actually has a built-in closet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one also has a seat and closet. I wonder if they put up that wall to make 2 bedrooms out of one big one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When this room is cleared out, it will make a perfect library or home office.
Tumblr media
The bath seems to have it’s original footprint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This room looks done.
Tumblr media
The large attic is finished and needs some work, but someone started it, already.
Tumblr media
This is cool- a little roof top deck.
Tumblr media
Beautiful big deck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oooh, a pool, too. Luckily, it has a cover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gorgeous gardens. I love this house so much.

It’s been an entertaining week with the betty/Lili stans melting down and outing themselves as only caring about Lili as a self insert (otherwise they would be happy she doesn’t have to work closely with evil Cole). I was wondering, if you don’t mind answering, now that it’s been sometime since you completed it, if you are happy with the Robin’s Egg blue in your kitchen because I was thinking of doing the same and have a similar cabinet colour.
Oh mah dude!!! I adore the robis egg blue! In fact, I’m starting to look for vintage placemats in the same color way.
Btw, it’s kilz (which is a great and very well priced paint) and the color is, I think “Venice escape”

In other news, D is covering the water stains in the room that has no name. Water based Kilz this time.
There is a steel beam up there, so iron-rich stains from the leaky roof (repaired) are our nemesis.
Not sure what color we'll paint this wall, but that will be after the ceiling is repaired.

Benjamin Moore Wall Color, unlike many commercial grade paints, is free of no VOCs (also known as volatile organic compound), which makes it a more environmentally sustainable option than regular paint. You can pick between two standard options for this paint: flat and texture. Benjamin Moore Ceiling paint is used in a myriad of ways including staining, painting or crown molding as well as other traditional paints.
You can achieve smoothness by using a roller or brush and applying the paint in even smooth strokes. Make use of a roller for the appearance of a bump or texture. You can smooth small areas by allowing the roller to dip. You will need to hold your hand steady to keep the roller from scratching off the finish.
Ceiling paints from Benjamin Moore are quick drying and require minimal cleaning. Utilize a cleaner specifically designed for MDF and wood to remove any extra spray or marks from the brush. Spray the cleaner over the area then scrub it into the wood with a brush. Benjamin Moore also sells an electrostatic charge cleaner that is a great tool to remove difficult blemishes.
Flat white ceiling paint can give your rooms a fresh, clean look. The finish is impervious to flaking, chipping, and fade. It's safe to apply indoors or outdoors as it does not contain VOCs. Combining the flat finish with an exterior finish will add to the room’s natural charm.

Well. It's the end of an era. For my quarantine project, I painted over the characters I've had on my walls for forever. I, of course, included the befores and afters. The first time I did my room was probably back in 2007-8, when I just painted the walls white and drew them in with sharpie (I don't recommend, the ink will bleed.) These were anime characters and...I didn't tell my parents I was doing it.  The second update was in 2013, when I started to use color and did more american comics and cartoons. Now, in 2020, I was working from home and I really began to notice all the mistakes I made and it started to bother me. I thought, 'eh, these characters don't mean anything to me anymore.' I went out and bought some Kilz and covered them. (To the absolute joy of my parents.) I finally finished putting up the new pattern, one which my mom assures will stay long after I move out. lol
