Dawson Kiltmaker's Confession (found in Szarr Palace in Patch 5)
Text:
After that gloating visit by the master of the vampires, named Cazador it seems, I believe my incarceration can end in nothing but death - or worse. As such, it [behooves] me to confess my sins, if only in this small notebook, to lift their burden from my soul or, if that is not granted to me, to record the reasons for my atonement.
As a child, I was often coldly cruel to small animals, though I kept such abuse well hidden.
As a youth, I teased my yunger sister Thara unmercifully about her weight and skin blemishes, which I fear contributed to her chronic melancholy upon reaching adulthood.
When I took the city accountants' certification test, I feared that I lacked the skills to pass, so I cheated by buying an illicit answers sheet.
[The above is followed by six more pages of similar transgressions.]
Today, 6 April, is Tartan Day - a day to celebrate Scots and people of Scottish descent wherever they are in the world. Did you know that the University of Edinburgh has a very special reason for celebrating: in its own bespoke tartan pattern, designed in 2007 by Gordon Nicolson.
For centuries, tartan patterns have been used to identify and celebrate the kinship bonds of Scotland's many clans. As students, staff, alumni and friends of the @edinburghuniversity you can celebrate being part of our University family by proudly wearing our beautiful tartan.
Catch a glimpse of traditional handsewn kiltmaking too in this clip, as taught in the heart of the city by @edinburghkiltmakersacademy to come up with a University of Edinburgh tartan products are available from @uofe_shop or visit @gordonnicolsonkiltmakers to order your own University of Edinburgh tartan kilt or tartan ladieswear clothing.
how did you start with sewing kilts? What did you first begin with and what do you find the most challenging and satisfying?

I may have started to answer you through my other blog 'bearpicsbear', since Tumblr is never clear about these things.
Anyway, all sewing on a kilt is straight lines, so there is nothing complicated about sewing one by machine. I made one or two for shows (I was a costumer) along with two for myself. It is a lot of folding, pinning, pressing - but I also learned that regardless of 'authenticity' I sew the inside edge of the pleats (if not both inside and outside edges) about 1/8" away from the edge so that the pleating never un-pleats, even if you have to wash the kilt. This also works if you buy a cheap plaid flannel to try (instead of $80/yd Scottish wool) because the cotton fabric will never hold a knife edge like real wool does. BTW - both McCalls and Simplicity patterns should have a pattern for a kilt in their costume sections. Not the greatest, but if you ever decide to join a Scottish Games and NEED to wear a kilt, these costume-y ones are better than spending $800+ for a handmade, all-wool one from a kiltmaker.

So I thought that I had a post about making a kilt for my S/O for the wedding he's a groomsman in, and I was gonna add this to that post as an update but I can't find it. So here:
It is what the lads call a "self-color kilt" (solid color) cuz the bride didn't like any of the gray tartans that I was able to find. The line of the fell is a bit wobbly cuz it's quite hard to try to match and hand sew each individual pleat when you have no stripes in the weave for reference. But I will fix that when I'm done with all the pleats.
I have 20 pleats sewn (21 folded) out of 37, so it's coming along. Definitely won't have all the pleats done by the start of the semester tomorrow unfortunately, but my tendons just can't help being little shits.
In case any of my followers eventually find themselves in a hyperfixation rabbit hole on kilt-making, The Art of Kiltmaking has been super helpful. It's literally a step-by-step guide with all the terminology and ways to determine proper kilt fit, how to do alterations, etc.
