I look SO normal!!" but he doesn't. he never has. he never will. he's just used to everybody around him being too distracted by his artfully styled bangs and extensive collection of soft knitwear to notice his incredibly off-putting demeanor. he is So used to it, in fact, that he doesn't quite grasp that someone might find the image of him lounging around on his stomach and kicking his feet in the air while he stares at breasts to be. a little different. maybe even. disingenuous. oh no. shock and horror, shock and horror.

It all started with the class failing to well, fail, despite their best attempts, at a competition. And it all ended with them mayhaps accidentally-on-purpose kidnapping some local cryptids. And a crocodile man. And a polite zombie dude. And- okay so maybe they smuggled a bunch of people out of the city they were staying at for the whole tour thing they didn’t particularly care for. 

But come on, what were they supposed to do? Not take the yellow-eyed liminal bird-people who felt all confused and sick and hurt? Not on their watch! Liminals stick together, and GIW can’t get into Amity anyway, so it’s safest there! And they understand the crocodile dude- Waylon? Lovely name Waylon- not wanting to let random people, teens or not, kidnap his friend Grundy.

Do you guys think that, after Killer's escape, Nightmare ever visits random AUs in the hope of catching a glimpse of him? Do you think that, when he spots Color and Killer going about their day, he ever follows them silently at a distance? Just observing and thinking.

He's still capable of feeling all the negative emotions, so do you guys think he ever looks at them and is consumed by regret? By bitterness at what he could have had all along had he not been, well, him?

Do you think he ever feels lonely? Do you think he ever goes to give Killer an order and remembers he's not there? Do you think he ever visits other universes just to hear someone yapping for a while? Just so the empty silence of the castle doesn't crush him?

Do you think he ever finds himself unreasonably angry at Color? Because the idea that he may be at fault and that things could have been better had he been better is one that crosses his mind only rarely. Usually, he'd rather blame it all on him. If Color had been a worse person then Killer would have stayed. If Color just used him as the tool he is they wouldn't be here. If Color was more controlling, if Color was more violent, if Color was more selfish... if Color just wasn't himself then maybe he wouldn't be feeling so shitty.

Do you think that he ever goes back to his giant empty castle after a day of following Color and Killer around and seeing how much better Killer's life is now, how much happier he is without him, and thinks, only for a moment, that maybe he'd try and do better next time? That maybe it would be worth it to change? That maybe he can make the next Killer stay for good? Do you think that sentiment lasts or is it just washed away by more hatred and the thought that, well, Color can't save them all anyway?

keep thinking now about the idea of the ancient greek stage building as a doorway into death, which is separated from the stage (the space of the living) by the screen of the skene. cassandra calls it as much ("the gates of hades") when she enters the house of atreus. by convention characters cannot die on stage but must exit, usually into the skene, to be killed. cassandra's just extra explicit about it because of her foresight, but every entry into the stage building is a step into death. and then some people come back out of it!!!

Killer goes by Shiv while Horror goes by Axe based on their main weapons. Dust goes by Lav, short for Lavender. Nightmare still uses the same name, but the boys always call him Night :]

clothing notes (and extras):

Shiv is the one with the most fashion sense, but even he's been lazy and decided to just walk around wearing a funny t-shirt and shorts sometimes. Definitely the one who gets everyone clothes during supply runs (yes he's fashion besties with plum). Likes clothes with many pockets for storage, too! Whether that's got snacks or daggers in them, you'll just have to dig around yourself /lh

Axe wears lumberjack/farmer-esque clothing to hint at his connection to Farmtale! Farmtale is protected by Nightmare (in secret) as it harbors the last of Horrortale's survivors— the AU was too corrupted to sustain itself— while also being the Crescents' main food supply. The patched jeans and sleeveless vest are actually gifts from the Farm brothers. Them and Axe (+ Axe's brother, Oak) are very close, subsequently making Farmtale a second home to the Crescents.

Lav prefers oversized clothing and probably likes to use weighted blankets to ground himself. Shiv dresses him up most, and Lav just tells him to get dark/neutral clothes with purple accents for him. It feels nice to be taken care of. Usually wears a beanie/cap when he’s at home and is without his hood (has the shortest tail out of the trio, hides it well).

Night prefers fancy-casual because he knows how it feels to wear clothes that didn't fit/weren't comfy for him (still has his old crown, somewhere..). Definitely wears a nightrobe at home too. Technically the necklace is a vial of his own negativity(?) extracted by Sci. I wanted to make it so that everyone else has that on certain charms/pendants infused with that same negativity to act as a hidden tracker for Night to pinpoint where his boys are (and his own necklace could act as an emergency booster if Night gets too weak)
