Tokyo Mew Mew OOAK

Ever since I started making custom dolls 5-6 years ago I always wanted to make a a complete set of the Mew Mews. I’m glad I didn’t jump into them right away because I know the dolls would of suffered because of my lack of experience. With the release of Tokyo Mew Mew New I finally decided no time would be better than now to make these. 

For more of my ramblings about the dolls look below the cut.

I’ve looked to see any other customizers have done all the girls and I haven’t seen anyone do it yet(or maybe I didn’t look hard enough?). 

I used Ever After High dolls for these. Mint, Pudding and Ringo use the short body type and Zakuro uses the taller body. Thought I’d point that out case the way I have these set up it’s kinda hard to tell that the girls are different heights. 

Ichigo does have curly hair in the back but it’s impossible to see with these pics. It’s also impossible to see her Mew mark but it is there. Her tail is also posable! 

Zakuro doesn’t have boots and instead I tried to paint a pair of heels the same color as the fabric to give the ‘illusion’ she’s in boots. I just couldn’t make a good pair of thigh highs so I improvised. 

I photoshopped the Ringo character cd and strategy guide behind Ringo cause I didn’t have anything with her on it. I hope it’s not to distracting. Also Ringo makes for such a precious doll!!

What are some voice headcanons for your OCs?

Thank you sm for this question!! It's something I thought about and considered a while ago but never came back to, because, well... it's really hard! Haha

Right now I only have voice hcs for Chip and CV. Teddy's such a shame since he's literally a little singing star, but I guess that's a lot of pressure in choice.

For Chip I've considered:

Happy ENA, her speaking mannerisms although not necessarily medieval feel similar to what I have in mind for Chip. It's also usually a nice masc voice with a bit of a certain twang to it that makes it the perfect level of "gender" for them, lmao.

Lynn Ferguson's Mac from Chicken Run. Sometimes I hear Chip's voice with a scottish accent, and I love Mac's pitch for them. When I was young I thought Mac was a boy. She's very soft-spoken as well and mostly calm.

Casey Mongillo's Nene Onemine from Komi Can't Communicate. Casey is nonbinary! And has a very soothing voice, imo, especially in this role. When act out excitement or fury, it can be kind of strained, which feels fitting. Nene also has cute freckles like Chip :3

Overall, Chip's voice is androgynous in every single way in my mind :P It sounds masc, it sounds fem, it sounds Medieval English, Scottish, maybe Puerto Rican, soft, firm... Ugh.

For CV I've considered:

Arleen Sorkin's Harley Quinn. And I know what you're thinking, even at that pitch it's a pretty older-sounding voice for someone like CV. And lmao, you're right, but the accent and squeak are just too perfect for her. She is supposed to be related to Lucky, after all.

Dot Warner, specifically in season 3-5 of the original Animaniacs. Not too pitch-shifted but just enough to make her sound like a child. Dot's sass is perfect for CV, completely full of herself.

Jodie Resther's Francine Frensky Or Melissa Altro's Muffy Crosswire from Arthur. It's the best... the worst? Of both worlds. I LOVE these two, but ik some people can hate them to their very core. Very CV. Francine would be perfect for CV's mannerisms, but Muffy just... sounds more like what I have in mind for her. Squeaky.

Kether Donohue's Kiki/Pudding from Mew Mew Power. I wasn't happy with my indecisiveness with Francine and Muffy, and tbh all three of these voices I thought of just for this Q! Then I ran into this old anime I use to love, haha. Pudding is probably perfect for CV; she's a performer, she has the accent[?], the mannerisms, the squeakiness!!

Overall, CV is a brooklyn/new york accented street urchin with a lot of attitude and squeakiness. Probably a voice that you either love or you hate, as decisive as her personality.

Oh hi! @14cookiesinajar 4kids dub expert here! Developed an hyperfixation with those old dubs and specifically their editing practices! So I’m probably qualified to explain this!

*warning to dub haters. Will be using dubs names and titles since… I’m talking about the dub*

So… Bridget’s cut transformation eh? It feels weird how she was the only mewmew to never get an individual transformation.

Zoey, Kiki, Corina and Renee all got individual transformations with their own music but Bridget only got a shockingly short segment in the group transformation!

So why? Well it’s actually because of what they had to cut from the English dub. They cut out the beginning DNA sequence of every single transformation.

That’s right! They snipped off the beginning of all the girls transformations!

The original transformations all started with the girl curled up surrounded by swirling dna as orchestral music swell dramatically. This was cut from mew mew power.

Why? Well there’s lots of reasons! Time saving, light sensitivity issues, tweaks to the story, not owning the orchestral music etc. but realistically there was one big reason it got the snip.

The girls were completely naked and exposed during this part of the transformation.

Even though mew mew power had aged them up from 13 to 16 (8 to 14 in Kiki’s case) 4kids simply did not feel comfortable showing naked children in their version of the show.

One because obviously this is inappropriate and shouldn’t have ever even been in the original show to begin with (though if that needs explaining to anyone I wouldn’t trust them within ten feet of a child)

And two they REALLY wanted mew mew power to be a big deal. They wanted it to be their sailor moon. They were already fighting with western toy companies about the girl’s outfits so they weren’t willing to take any extra risks. (They never ended up scoring the toy deal btw, which led them to cancelling the show just before its finale. Different subject for a different time!)

Now for most of the cast? This was an easy fix! Just snip the dna sequence out! And that worked for most of them! Zoey and Renee needed a biiit more editing but it was small enough to do.

The issue with Bridget however is… she wasn’t just naked in the beginning of her transformation. She’s naked for MOST of it.

To the point 4kids decided they didn’t have enough footage of her in the transformation of her clothed to give her a transformation of the same length as the other girls.

Her original transformation was ALREADY shorter then the other girls so it was either they gave her a really short transformation (as quite a few fanmade versions have shown) or… they cut it. And that’s what they chose to do.

Her part in the group transformation is really all they could salvage from the original transformation. Juuust enough for a segment in a much larger transformation sequence!

So yeah! Too much nakey kid. That’s the reason!

Thanks for giving me the excuse to nerd out about something I have no reason to be as passionate as I am about!

If anyone has any questions about a specific 4kids dub change and why it happened hit me up! If I don’t know I’ll certainly be excited to find out! I love this stuff but almost never get to delve into it!

Hey! Bu-Ling is done! Hers was a bit tough considering her styles are so unique and the shape not the easiest to translate into 3D. But I think I pulled it off. Also with Bu-Ling done that means I’m half way done with the whole set!

DRAGONCON DAY 2

first of all i think it’s notable that “wonderland” by neoni was going through my head the entire day and i think all of the lyrics are Very Accurate to how i felt: “hello, come in, welcome to the freak show…” /pos

i cosplayed as glamrock chica on this day!

Stuff and Things that Happened:

-forgot to put on foundation (it was fine)

-dipper pines liked my cosplay

-various more instances of “hi barbie!” (and one said it back to me :D)

-actually many people mistook me for barbie and i was told i had barbie energy

-two guys passed me and one went “hi barbie” and the other one said “no that’s chica”

-we saw a withered bonnie that was yellow?? we saw it again later and I think it was maybe a cross between bonnie and chica or bonnie and springtrap

-saw a korok that i screamed “GOOD LUCK FINDING YOUR FRIEND” at and their handler went “that’s where we’re taking him right now!”

-there was a cuphead show panel and the voice actors spent the entire time dodging around character names cause of the strike and it was HILARIOUS

-the staff was all super nice

-met a super sweet young fnaf puppet cosplayer who got so excited to see me and i got to take a photo with her :D

-my dad actually got recognized and asked for photos twice despite cosplaying from an obscure 80s miniseries

-tiny child came to give Many Thoughts at a Star Wars panel—the panelists said and i quote “he kicked our butts last panel”

-there was an incomplete circle of rocks outside and when i completed it a little girl dressed as a korok popped out from behind a statue and gave me a mini snickers wrapped like a korok seed!

-there was a fnaf panel! a bunch of people complimented my cosplay and i got photos with some cool people! fan interactions are so much fun :D

-squEEEEE LITTLE TINY CHILD CAME UP TO ASK IF I WAS GLAMROCK CHICA AND SHE WAS LIKE “i can tell you’re glamrock chica cause i played that game—well i didn’t play that game but i’ve seen it. and chica is super fast.” SHE WAS SO CUTE MY HEART
