this is related to another ask from a while back that someone else made but im actually glad that babyzai doesn't have many like parental or family based nicknames for his caregivers just as like a preference thing? i have nothing against it in general, but it always takes me out of the story when a little gives a cg a nickname like mom or dad for some reason. like in context to regression it would make sense to, but idk. just preference ig

also in this story i spesifically like it because babyzai calling kunikida 'kida' in my head always sounds similar/reminds me of the word kitty and i find it amusing. like i realize they dont really sound that similar but in my head it would kinda sound like hes calling him kitty and kunikida would just have to deal with it 😭💖

but like with skk.. they dont really need the usual nicknames when their insults are basically pet names already. i really like how you use skk pet names less like names and more like titles sometimes, like its not just mackerel, its Mackerel. idk how to italicize on here bjt imagine that italicized. when dazai calls chuuya 'chibi' hes not just calling him names, theres weight to it. idk its so much more personal, like no one else is gonna fill that mackerel shaped hole in chuuyas heart or vice versa, they are stuck together fr

Yeah idk Mommy or Daddy nicknames have just never been For Me personally, but also Dazai isn’t regressing to cope with parental related trauma or anything (I know a lot of people regress and use mommy/daddy as a way to redo childhood and i support them 100% 🩷) he’s just regressing because i made a universe that says he has to lol. I don’t really feel the need to add in any kind of title for Chuuya because it’s not necessarily regressing for the same context, if that makes sense? Idk just random thoughts haha

Review Proper

Just something about this is weird. The manga’s pretty fluid on its own, but it’s kinda, uhh, choppy? in the BLCD. Although I’m not sure if Smoky Nectar’s a serious manga with some comedy here and there, 50:50 serious and comedy, or is a comedy with some serious moments... it kinda doesn’t work in the BLCD. I mean, SatoTaku and Junya did well during the serious parts, but they seem to stumble during the comedy or the parts that lead to the comedic moments. Maybe the comedy just doesn’t transition well into the audio adaptation. *shrugs*

Let’s jump straight into the voice work, shall we?

I was quite interested in listening to this ‘cause yo??? Juujin bottoms??? If Daath and Kai were in these tones in Kemonohito, I would ship them 100% lmao, but then, uhh, idk, Junya was kind of a mess here. We’ll get to SatoTaku later, but I feel like they didn’t record this together. I do not like how Junya drags his moans on during their bedroom Redcross donations because he sounds very out of sync with SatoTaku’s ministrations (this is only very obvious in the first, though). I think he also has a hard time expressing the deadpan humor Mitsuru has. Sometimes my mind wanders off and starts having thoughts of either Reio, Ban, or Shouhei potentially being a better option for Mitsuru. That might just be my other issue with Junya. He was a bit too low for Mitsuru. I feel like if he was in a higher register, then he would’ve been able to express Mitsuru’s feelings better.

Now, as for SatoTaku, the man wasn’t free of my suspicions either. SatoTaku was a little too smooth to match Anna’s equally deadpan humor. I’m not saying that SatoTaku can’t comedy ‘cause sis you’ve heard Sonna ni, right??? But as compared to Anna, Shinobu’s more dynamic a character. Niyama and Ginger also gave the cast time to prepare before a big change in moods. Huh, I’m starting to think that this is the same thing that went down in Takasaki Bosco’s Torokeru Kuchibiru. I feel like Makonyan or Ono Yuuki would’ve done this better. But I know, I FUCKING KNOW, why Fifth Avenue got SatoTaku for this.

Thanks to Fifth Avenue, I know have my ringtone set to SatoTaku saying “erro” in the Mini Drama on repeat.

Goddamn I fucking flatlined on that one. I wasn’t really expecting much from the Mini Dramas, so thanks. 👍

Anyway, I also have to say that the sound effects as well as the bgms suck balls lmao. FIFTH AVENUE PLS. The main piano bgm also starts and ends in random places. There was also this part where Anna jumps off from a fucking building to the floor on the ground, making a table flip. Like we all know how a table sounds like flipped, right??? It definitely won’t sound like a chair shaking! 😂 I don’t think Fifth Avenue even cared at that point. 

This was actually a pretty decent adaptation despite the many issues I have with it. It’s pretty faithful to the manga too, although I would recommend reading the manga once before ‘cause you wouldn’t know what they were doing in real time without the visual cues. This is an action bl too, after all. If you’re looking for another vampire (the “biter” thing also threw me off a bit, but the “nectar” concept wouldn’t survive without ig) bl, I raise you Yuri Azuru’s Fujitsu de Fumou na Koi no Kami-kon starring Okitsu and Egu. That one’s a little disappointing on the action front, but it was a good vampire bl nontheless. Okitsu’s Lark was also a good comedic/spontaneous type, so that’s good vampire + comedy!

How I feel about this character: She's her way onto my list of favorite female characters. That's how I feel about her.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Mm, I'm torn on whether I am rooting for her and Mikado or not. I'm either/or on it. She either ends up with him or stays single.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I LOVE her and Celty's friendship and how it's grown over time, how she found a trusted comrade in Celty after Celty learned what entity Anri carries around with her.

So, I spent the past week working very diligently to recreate (& update) one of my first fully digital pieces. I’m pretty sure the original drawing was the first artwork I ever shared here on tumblr (if anyone’s particularly curious, you can check me on that by going all the way to the end of my art tag on my tumblr).

Okay so I’m gonna ramble quite a lot about this, because it’s so special to me, so for those who want to skip the text and keep scrolling:

Fun fact #1: I didn’t have a tablet back when I did the original one. I did it solely through the touchpad from the laptop. You may be asking yourselves “but...how?” Short answer: patiently. Long answer: obviously I didn’t free draw the thing, iirc I think this is how I learned to use the pen tool (the one that makes vector shapes and lines) in Photoshop. 

Fun fact #2: The watermark on the old one is freshly added, because I was a wee baby digital artist back then and didn’t know how important it was to have any type of identifying mark on a work when you share it on the internet. Not that I’m aware of any shady stuff happening with my art so far (because I’m not that a popular an artist on the internet), but still. 

Fun fact #3: I decided to add four more Princesses to the drawing to reflect the passage of time, however, they are all in their canon kid forms as they appeared in their respective movies; Ariel, Kida and Rapunzel also briefly appeared as kids canonically (Ariel’s Beginnings for Ariel if you remember that 2008 sequel) in their movies, but thankfully they just wore a kid’s version of their main outfit so I didn’t have to go back and alter what I initially made.

Other random notes:

There may be people who might argue that Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph and Lilo and/or Nani from Lilo & Stitch should have also been added. I’ve thought about this, but decided not to add them for a couple of reasons: 

Vanellope and Lilo are kids for the entire run of their movies, so I don’t think they would match the concept for the drawings; adding only Nani without Lilo seems a bit cruel under this condition

Vanellope meeting the Disney Princesses in WR2 was very meta, and the concept of the movie itself is quite meta in general, so it would have kinda changed the context of the drawing by adding her too imo

there is only so much unoccupied space available in the image; I knew I was pushing the amount of space I could fill with more characters by adding the 4 new ones already, so idk where I could have found space for two more and not made it look too busy; hopefully I don’t decide to do this again another decade later

I genuinely think I did a better job on the spatial relativity between characters in the 2011 one; idk they just ‘sit’ better and I wonder where and how I lost my ability to see things in space; granted, I think the perspective of the shelves, wardrobe etc is much improved in the 2021 version, but at what cost??? It is entirely possible my brain wanted the girls to be better viewed and not be obstructed by each other. I did punch up the color significantly in the new version after all, and it would have been a shame to have them sit too close to each other (visually). I may be overthinking this too much though.

Jk, we’re not doing that (again). I do want to pat myself on the back for getting it to look so good though! The more I look at it, the more I love it. I’ll probably draw Cindy and this dress some more in the future, because in the past few years I really got to love the entire color combo and how it looks overall. Ariel is still my #1 Disney gal, and at some point I’ll get to do her pink dress some justice too ( it can actually be seen peeking through the wardrobe behind Cinderella and Tiana)! and also the sparkly lavender one because I feel like we don’t talk enough about that one. Just one more dress color thing tho: I picked the light blue dress for Tiana instead of the green leafy one for two reasons: 1) to showcase an actual blue dress in the Disney canon right next to Cinderella’s and 2) I’m actually not that much of a fan of Tiana’s green dress and I like the simpler, blue one way more.

3. What does your oc’s voice sound like? (Or, if you have one, what’s their voiceclaim?) Can they sing, whistle, or roll their rs? Do they have any speech impediments or notable dialects/accents?

Honestly!! This is something that I’ve struggled for the longest time with! I keep trying to think of a voice for Jax and I’ve yet to settle on anything? I’ve figured his voice would be on the higher end, generally being heavily emotive unless he absolutely wants/needs to mute out his feelings... which, either way, is a good tell to get a grasp on his state of mind in that moment, same with the pitch of it that well follows suit. Jax definitely has an awful singing voice, but I’d imagine him being able to whistle, roll his r’s, and he is (canonically to my campaign!) able to do other accents very well. Otherwise, he has an extremely strong Elvish accent, though I’m not sure what accent in the real world it’d be reflective of (one of my friends suggested Australian, which I can see for better or worse,).

7. What song reminds you of this oc? Does this match up with the type of music your oc likes to listen to?

Realistically? An absolute fuckton of songs, though I’d have to say Grand Finale (matches his general personality and what I want his character growth to be like!) by Studio Killers; Nightlife, Music People, Welcome Kingdom of Addiction, and Ghosts of Utopia (all discuss very corruptive influences on his life and thus how those then reflect on his own actions and ultimately drag him down, making him suffer more and more) by IAMX; The World Does Not Revolve Around You and Irresistible (this man’s awful ego) by Temposhark; and The Prince (his present self more-or-less being reflected upon by him when he’s older) by Madeon! I can’t say this without including songs about his pairings, so I particularly associate Achilles, Come Down (if there’s any song that I could dedicate to their dynamic as a whole, it would be this) by Gang of Youths with Jax and Dekida (where I find that the singer’s voice would match Kida’s, to reflect on the previous question), then world.search(you); (again, another close descriptor of Jax and Hazel’s dynamic, particularly while they both think the other is dead) by Mili with Jax and Hazel! None of these match his music taste, I’d imagine at most he might listen to a FEW songs from IAMX, but regularly I think he’d listen to rap..?

21. What’s a fact you haven’t shared about this oc?

THERE’S SO MUCH... this man has an incredible amount of lore and things to his personality, I couldn’t even begin to start with just one... but I think I’ll go with the most recent development of him since it’s fun? So, to give context, Jax’s forearms and hands are completely black, their surface looking a lot like charred wood with many, many lacerations thanks to corruption from The Tower (and to give even more context, this whole world has a singular set of very magical tarot cards called the Dwelling Cards that all come with their own unique properties, abilities, intuitions, and corruptions, generally being held by a person that matches their stereotypical traits within divination. Only one Card can be held at once by a person, unless that person holds The Fool like Jax), as upon killing his father who held it, Jax took the card and it completely corrupted his hands which now burn with absolute hell levels of pain. From this, his mother created gloves for him which numb the pain of the corruption, though it still hurts plenty and tends to spike at random moments regardless; their edges are magically sewn into his skin to ensure that they will never accidentally come off. Eight levels of context aside and completely disregarding that I’ve mentioned this nowhere before besides TH, the one thing that I really wanted to talk about was the solution since I really haven’t put that anywhere before! I was thinking that when this whole situation gets sorted out and dealt with, since my campaign has an odd focus on elemental creatures (the Bronze Dragon, Mary, & a stone/construct hawk goddess, Uvetta, are like. two major characters), I’d make his blood turn golden in response (I think Uvetta would partake in his healing..? This would take more context, but for basic knowledge she is something of a healer and is also the essential creator of the Dwelling Cards) to match, in a sense, his ego and status, reflective of how much he sees himself as something wonderful and how others do too, but also how he’s not only a “null” prince but an idol, regarded by, looked up to, and favoured by many to the point where he makes his own self conform to these visions much like a trophy. He’s a god in his own right to some extent, the golden blood only reflecting that. On its own, the properties of the blood can be healing at first in regards to a person’s mental state, though if enough of it consumed it quickly becomes addicting and intoxicating whilst not once quenching thirst, only drawing people in to drink more and more. It is cool, kind of like water that’s been sitting out for a while in a colder location, and it solidifies into a metal outside of Jax’s body after some time passes. Since I think it’s cute, his own blush becomes very much golden, though I think at the same time his tears would turn black for... no true reason really, it just sounds kind of fun and ultimately reflects his contrast from the self he presents to others to who he actually is. Bodily fluids aside, I feel as though his hands and forearms would be permanently covered in tinted skin, like thick lines of blue kind of like bandages running over them.
