little early for killjoys month i suppose but i'm Thinking and i wanna see what someone does with this concept.

dutch was born from a pool of plasma. she is a memory, a living, breathing memory. she is neither hullen nor completely human, nor a blend of both like her nephew-brother-son. she is an impossibility made possible.

as a child she forgets that little girls are meant to bleed at all when they slip and cut themselves on something. (memories cannot bleed.) there are times that she knows of things she has never seen, things beyond the harem in which she was raised.

(it frightens khlyen, how much this reminds him of aneela. how such young eyes could contain knowledge from a place elsewhere. so he does not tell her where such knowledge comes from -- he will not lead her back there. he cannot risk it, cannot chance that she would see the green and hear the Voice within it and know what has been done to her. and meanwhile little yala tries to remember her parents, for surely she must have had them if khlyen was sent by her father, but there is a void where there should be a face and something inside her curls violently around the emptiness and shrieks in a voice that is not hers yet, but will be.)

he teaches her to kill. he cannot teach her to be human, divorced as he is from the concept.

little bird, he says, and she dreams of spreading her wings (as vast and deadly and beautiful as the universe beyond this place; the universe has a memory and she is one and yet she is many memories condensed inside a single body that sometimes feels too small) and flying far, far from him, far from this cage he confines her to.

As someone who is absolutely unhinged about the pilot ending and Johnny's absolute misdirect when D'av questions him, this has me so very dslkjfsldjflskjfsl. Right now? He doesn't know everything. He knows more than anybody else, but that's a low bar to cross. Right now, he just wouldn't do that, because he is loyal and because he believes in Dutch. In the pilot? He knows everything. And he has chosen to stay with her because of it all, because he knows it makes her stronger and braver and worthy of everything he puts in her. But he plays the fool with D'av and acts like he doesn't know anything, acts like he's with her just because, and that moment of playing the fool says so much about Johnny Jaqobis and his devotion to Dutch.
